Even after weeks, Gabriele Jandrasits from Innsbruck is still in a lot of anger and incomprehension. Before her vacation, she wanted to pre-order a taxi to the airport – and take her little dog, a Beagle Jack Russell mongrel, with her in an aircraft-compatible transport cage. But even though she called the evening before, she had been told by the radio taxi office that there was no guarantee of transport for the next morning. She had been told as a reason that most drivers would refuse to take dogs with them on religious grounds. She was then referred directly to a taxi number, where she was assured of advance booking and dog transport. “If there were clear guidelines – for example that certain dog breeds may not be transported in the passenger compartment, that the dogs must be leashed and muzzled or must be carried in a transport box – I would understand that,” the dog owner is annoyed, “but the whole thing is just arbitrary.Ms Jandrasits, who works for the Tyrol Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, gives another example: A former member of the association’s board – the lady is fully blind – also ordered a taxi via the radio taxi centre. Assuming that her guide dog for the blind had to be taken with her anyway, she did not even mention the dog by telephone. However, the taxi driver refused to take the dog with him. The managing directors of the Innsbruck radio taxi centre, Anton Eberl and Harald Flecker, expressly apologise for the incidents, offer the passenger a voucher as a gesture – and confirm the problem in principle: “We ourselves are not the owners of the taxis, but only mediators,” Flecker states. It is a fact, however, that around 80 percent of drivers now have a migration background – and that Muslims traditionally regard dogs as “unclean”. We try to make drivers understand time and again that such a thing is not possible in our country and that these rides have to be carried out just like any other job. At the moment we are unfortunately not able to solve this problem satisfactorily”, says Flecker. In addition, there is the high fluctuation among the more than 400 drivers. “We have to keep them informed and teach them the rules.”

“If Iran proceeds to the third stage of reducing its obligations under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), it will give the signatories of the nuclear pact 60 more days to fulfill its demands and save the deal, President Hassan Rouhani said on Wednesday.
“If 60 days of the second stage pass without bringing any results, we will certainly proceed to the third stage, and then we will give 60 more days to find a rational, proper and balanced way to solve [the problem],” Rouhani said at a session of the Iranian government.
The country remains committed to the JCPOA and ready for dialogue, the president stressed.
On May 8, 2018, US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew his country from the deal and reimposed economic sanctions on Iran. The US move was slammed by other signatories of the deal, including the European Union, which insisted that Tehran fully complied with the treaty and have urged the US not to reimpose sanctions. Exactly a year later, Tehran announced its decision to partially suspend its JCPOA obligations and give the other signatories a deadline of 60 days to save the accord.
As the deadline expired, Iran began enriching uranium beyond the 3.67 percent level, outlined in the JCPOA, warning that it will gradually abandon its nuclear commitments every 60 days.
The JCPOA, signed in 2015 by Iran, China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany and the European Union, required Iran to scale back its nuclear program and severely downgrade its uranium reserves in exchange for sanctions relief.”

The impact of a war between India and Pakistan would be “felt in the whole world,” according to Alvi, who warned that the presence of thousands of troops in the Kashmir valley made it one of the world’s most militarised zones.
“India should not forget that there are three stakeholders in the resolution of Kashmir issue – Pakistan, India and the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” added Alvi .
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan said his country “feels saddened to see our Kashmiri brethren in IoK (Indian occupied Kashmir) being subjected to the worst kind of oppression and ruthless state terrorism.”
“The tyranny unleashed against innocent civilians has crossed all limits in total disregard to the international norms and the values of humanity and has endangered the peace of the region,” Khan claimed.
New Delhi stripped Jammu and Kashmir of its special constitutional status last week, amid protests from opposition parties in Kashmir. The government also divided the state into two federally administered territories.
In a retaliatory move, Islamabad scaled down diplomatic contacts with New Delhi and suspended trade and communication links. It has also complained to the UN security Council, claiming that India is in violation of UN resolutions.
Kashmir has been a bone of contention between India and Pakistan since the countries gained freedom from British rule in 1947. Both countries govern only part of the region, but claim it in full.”

“The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) requested that Mumbai Police be on high alert after receiving intelligence about a possible terror attack launched from the sea.
Ahead of India’s 72nd Independence Day celebrations on Thursday 15 August, police in the country’s western city of Mumbai have bolstered the security apparatus following intelligence inputs that there may be a terror attack from the sea.
Mumbai Police instructed all police stations with coastal jurisdictions to place armed personnel on night patrol, identify sensitive spots, ban vehicle parking and install bright lights at 70 landing points, and conduct garbage bin and ditch checks regularly.
The Regional Commander (West) of the ICG cautioned police along the city’s eastern and western coasts to intensify security drills, including illuminating the region to counter any suspicious movements before and during Independence Day celebrations.
The warning follows the receipt of “serious intelligence inputs” about a possible terrorist attack being launched from the sea, Indian daily The Indian Express reports.
Mumbai’s eastern and western coasts are customarily placed on security alert ahead of national day events like Independence Day and Republic Day.
The threat perception of a terror strike is due to existing tensions between India and Pakistan over the changed territorial status of Kashmir, an ICG official told the paper.
According to the daily, patrolling has been intensified on city beaches, mangroves and fishing jetties. Mumbai’s fishing community has been told to watch out for any suspicious activity along the coastline.
India’s coastline security has been made a priority since the terror attack on 26 November 2008 in which, 10 Pakistani terrorists entered Mumbai via the sea and left 166 people dead and over 300 injured.”

“In July, an explosion rocked a hotel in the Somalian port city of Kismayu, leaving 26 people dead and 56 injured.
According to media reports, car bombs hit a Somalian government military base in the country’s lower Shabelle region.
The Al-Shabaab Islamist militant group* has claimed responsibility for the blasts.
“We heard two huge blasts and gunfire from the direction of the Somali military base. I saw several soldiers running away from the base to escape but we cannot know how many were killed,” Awdhigle elder Aden Abdullahi eyewitness said.
The blasts occurred in Awdhigle, an agricultural district along the Shabelle River, 70 km southwest of the Mogadishu.
Al-Shabaab, which reportedly emerged in Somalia in 2006, is allied with the al-Qaeda* terrorist organisation. Somalia has been engulfed in violence since the eruption of a civil war between clan-based armed groups in the early 1990s. Al-Shabaab has been staging numerous attacks across the country in an attempt to impose Sharia law.

“A Tunisian LGBT activist who lives as a political refugee in Paris was brutally assaulted in an alleged homophobic attack requiring hospitalisation.
The attack took place on Thursday evening last week in the 11th district of Paris and saw Nidhal Belarbi insulted by four people who shouted homophobic slurs at him before becoming violent and beating him, Le Parisien reports.
The attack resulted in several injuries for Belarbi, including severe bruising to the ribs and neck that require him to wear a neck brace.
The LGBT association Comité IDAHO released a statement after the attack claiming that Belarbi had been recognised by one man while on the street and that the attacker than brought three more people before assaulting him.
Belarbi was taken care of by firefighters after the attack but one of the men returned to the scene and tried to break into the firefighters’ vehicle.
“Nidhal immediately became frightened. He said, ‘It’s him, I recognize him.’ It was his attacker who came back to ‘finish the job’. The firefighter had to push and lock the door,” explained Louis-Georges Tin, Chair of Comité IDAHO.
Belarbi fled to France as an asylum seeker in 2017 after being convicted and imprisoned for homosexuality in Tunisia. Since 2015, he and his organisation Shams have advocated for the decriminalisation of homosexuality in his home country…”
Italy: Animal Cruelty Investigation After Muslim Migrants Slaughter Sheep in Parking Lot

“A pair of Tunisian migrants are under investigation by Italian authorities for animal cruelty after allegedly slaughtering sheep in a parking lot.
The pair slaughtered two sheep in the village of Bentivoglio in Bologna as part of the annual Islamic festival of sacrifice Eid al-Adha but were observed by a local security guard who called the police following the incident, newspaper Il Giornale reports.
According to local media, the two men used the parking lot of a local business where trucks unload goods that was closed for holidays, allegedly so they would not be discovered.
Shortly after the report from the security guard, the Carabinieri arrived and notified the pair that the slaughter of animals without stunning them first was a crime.
In the past several days, police across Italy have discovered a number of cases relating to animal slaughter for the Islamic holiday including another in Bologna where two Moroccans were caught hiding a pair of sheep in their vehicle.
Neither one of the migrants had documentation and both received notifications for animal abuse.
In Florence, five people were targetted by Carabinieri after being accused of secretly slaughtering sheep and goats on a farm. The officers also seized several goats and sheep that were present to stop them from being slaughtered illegally.
Populist interior minister Matteo Salvini has been outspoken on his opposition to ritual halal slaughter, stating last year that he wanted to end loopholes that allowed Muslims and others to have exemptions from stunning animals before they are slaughtered.
Last year in France, a similar case saw 32 sheep rescued from a pizzeria in the suburbs of Paris during the Eid al-Adha festival. An animal rights association tipped officers off to five more sheep located at three separate addresses in the area.”

Ataer Holding would then be given several weeks to try to buy British Steel – the owner of the Scunthorpe works – out of insolvency.
British Steel was put into compulsory liquidation in May, when the Official Receiver was appointed.
Ataer owns nearly 50% of Erdemir, Turkey’s biggest steel producer.

“Under new guidelines that were introduced late last year and came into effect on 14 June, advertisements in the UK “must not include gender stereotypes that are likely to cause harm, or serious or widespread offence”. The rules apply to both broadcast and non-broadcast adverts, including online and social media.
In a landmark decision, Britain’s advertising watchdog has banned ads by car maker Volkswagen and food brand Mondelez over alleged gender stereotyping – in response to just a few complaints being submitted.
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) – Britain’s independent regulator for advertising – said it had received three complaints about a Volkswagen eGolf commercial.
It opens with a shot of a couple spending the night in a tent attached to a cliff. The woman is asleep while the man switches off the light and closes the tent after reading a book. In the follow-up scenes, male astronauts are floating in zero gravity and a male para-athlete is doing a long jump next to the shot while a woman is reading a book on a bench with a pram by her side.
The complainants claimed that these scenes “perpetuated harmful gender stereotypes by showing men engaged in adventurous activities in contrast to a woman in a care-giving role”.
Volkswagen argued that the ad centered “on the ability of the human spirit to adapt to challenges” and that the male characters were not performing actions stereotypical to a specific gender.
However, the ASA ruled that viewers were likely to observe a “direct contrast” between how the male and female characters were portrayed, and that the advert breached the guidance.
In a separate case, an unspecified number of people complained about a humorous Mondelez ad for the Philadelphia soft cheese, which featured two men told to look after their children by their wives. The men get so distracted by the spread that they leave the kids on a moving conveyor belt. They realise the loss in the last minute and pick up the children, with one of the dads saying, “Let’s not tell mum.”
Mondelez said it had chosen two dads to “deliberately avoid the typical stereotype of two new mothers with the childcare responsibilities”, and because men were a growing market for their product, but the ASA decided that the ad perpetuated a “harmful stereotype, namely that men were ineffective at childcare”.
The regulator has also investigated a Nestle ad for Buxton bottled water, which depicted a female ballet dancer, a male drummer and a male rower, for allegedly promoting a stereotypical association of some occupations with a particular gender. The ad was not found to be in beach of the advertising rules.
Geraldine Ingham, head of marketing for Volkswagen UK, said in a statement: “As both a leader within this business and as a mother, I do not believe that the roles of the women in this advertisement are in any way portrayed negatively.”
Mondelez said they were “disappointed” with the decision and insisted that they “work with a range of partners to make sure our marketing meets and complies with all UK regulation”.
The decision has also caused concerns that a growing number of social groups with a particular identity will deem a growing number of adverts offensive, meaning in theory that there will be no “non-offensive” commercials left in the future…”

Islamabad has also accused New Delhi of targeting civilians residing along Line of Control (LoC) that separates Indian and Pakistani forces in Kashmir.
“Indian troops along the LoC and Working Boundary have continuously been targeting civilian populated areas with artillery fire, heavy-caliber mortars, and automatic weapons, which still continues,” said Pakistan’s foreign ministry.
Pakistan’s foreign ministry also condemned what it described as unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian forces at the Hot Spring Sector of the LoC on 13 August, warning that the ceasefire violations are a “threat to regional peace and security and may lead to a strategic miscalculation.”

The man accused of killing 51 people at two Christchurch mosques was allowed to send a hand-written letter from his prison cell to a supporter.
New Zealand officials apologised for letting Brenton Tarrant, 28, send the letter warning of a ‘great conflict’.
The six-page ‘call to arms’ was posted this week on the website 4chan, a message-based bulletin which has been used for posts by white supremacists.
Tarrant, who is currently awaiting trial for 51 murders, 40 attempted murders, and engaging in a terrorist act, has been cited as an ‘inspiration’ by other alleged killers including those in El Paso and Oslo.
The letter appears to be written in pencil on a small notepad and is addressed to ‘Alan’ in Russia.
Much of it appears to be relatively innocuous, discussing a one-month trip Tarrant says he took to Russia in 2015.
But the letter also warns that a ‘great conflict’ is coming and uses language that could be construed as a call to arms.
Corrections Minister Kelvin Davis said in a statement today that he didn’t believe the prison system should have allowed Tarrant to send the letter.
‘I have made myself clear that this cannot happen again,’ Davis said.
But Davis also said that all New Zealand prisoners have rights that include the ability to send and receive mail.
He said the prison system can withhold correspondence and withheld some other letters Tarrant had attempted to send or receive.
‘We have never had to manage a prisoner like this before – and I have asked questions around whether our laws are now fit for purpose and asked for advice on what changes we may now need to make,’ Davis said.
In the letter, dated July 4, Tarrant thanks ‘Alan’ for postage stamps he apparently sent, saying they’re the only two pieces of colour in an otherwise grey cell and adds that he’ll have to hide them from the guards.
Tarrant cites Plato and other philosophers and writers as inspiration for his views, and says he ‘cannot go into any great detail about regrets or feelings as the guards will confiscate my letter if I do’ and use it as evidence.
Opposition spokesman David Bennett said Davis needed to demand immediate answers as to how an inflammatory letter could be sent from inside a maximum security prison.
‘This man is accused of carrying out one of the most heinous crimes in New Zealand history,’ Bennett said in a statement. ‘New Zealanders will be horrified that Corrections allowed him to send a letter which includes a call to action and has subsequently been posted online.’
The Corrections Department, which oversees prisons, said the law only allows a prison director to withhold a prisoner’s mail in a ‘very limited’ range of circumstances.
‘On review, we acknowledge that this letter should have been withheld,’ the department said in a statement. ‘We have made changes to the management of this prisoner’s mail to ensure that our robust processes are as effective as we need them to be.’
Before the March 15 shootings, Tarrant, a 28-year-old Australian white supremacist, posted a 74-page manifesto on the website 8chan in which he outlined his racist views and his beliefs that immigrants were invaders who would replace the white race.
8chan, seen as a more radical offshoot of 4chan, was effectively knocked offline this month after two companies cut off vital technical services in response to claims that the gunman who killed 22 people at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, posted a racist anti-Latino screed on the site just before the Aug. 3 killings.
Like the Texas gunman, a Norwegian man suspected of killing his stepsister and then storming an Oslo mosque with guns this month is also believed to have found inspiration in Tarrant’s actions.
New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has vowed never to utter Tarrant’s name in order to deny him the publicity she says he craves, making Tarrant’s letter even more of an embarrassment for the government.
‘I think every New Zealander would have an expectation that this individual should not be able to share his hateful message from behind bars,’ she told media on the island nation of Tuvalu, where she is traveling to attend a meeting of Pacific leaders.
It’s not the first misstep by New Zealand authorities in the case.
Police initially filed a single representative murder charge against Tarrant but mistakenly named somebody who was still alive before later amending the charge.
Tarrant has pleaded not guilty to terrorism, murder and attempted murder charges following the mosque attacks.
He remains in jail ahead of his trial, which has been scheduled for next May.

Something fascinating is going on with HSBC, one of the world’s biggest banks, as the summer of 2019 continues to erupt around us. The timing of the developments is remarkable, in light of the connection of the other events to HSBC. Some of the connections are long-established and well known. A protester specifically called out a man named John Bulfin who was former counsel for the GEO Group and even threatened his children.

Two Democratic presidential candidates, Bernie Sanders and Julian Castro, have agreed to speak before the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA). The candidates will address the forum during its convention in Houston on August 31, 2019.
The ISNA is listed by the United States Justice department as an entity of the Muslim Brotherhood which is a terrorist organization linked to several Islamist and Jihadist global political movements. These movements have as their goal the establishment of a global caliphate. This means that their goals are to subject all human beings to Sharia law. In fact, the president of ISNA was quoted in a 2006 film as saying that the organization’s mission was to change the Constitution of America. The organization has as its goals, by means of a jihad campaign, the destruction of western civilization from within.
There are several reasonable people who believe that both Sanders and Castro are either ignorant of the ISNA’s real goal, or are simply trying to turn a blind eye to an organization’s radical agenda with the hopes that they can modify the nihilistic and jihadist agenda of the movement.

Protests in Hong Kong have escalated for weeks over mounting concerns that Hong Kong’s government is allowing Hong Kong’s autonomy and its residents’ personal freedoms to erode under pressure from mainland China. When the territory was returned to China by the United Kingdom in 1997, China had promised to respect Hong Kong’s special status under a “one country, two systems” policy. Fulfillment of that promise appears to be slipping away, prompting massive numbers of demonstrators to take to Hong Kong’s streets. Crackdowns by Hong Kong’s police have been met with more protests, most of which have been relatively peaceful but have been accompanied by some violence. The most recent protests this week have involved civil disobedience as thousands of people managed to shut down Hong Kong International Airport two days in a row. Riot police moved in and clashed with protesters at the airport on Tuesday. Tensions boiled over as a policeman was observed by a journalist drawing his gun and aiming it at protesters after he was attacked by his own baton that had been taken from him.
Hong Kong’s highly unpopular chief executive Carrie Lam, whose proposal to extradite Hong Kong criminal suspects to mainland China touched off the protests months ago, warned that the city risked sliding into an “abyss.” She added, “A lot of residents go out and return to the city [through the airport], and many tourists and business people use this transport hub. Hong Kong’s reputation, as a safe society that respects the rule of law, will be in a very dangerous [situation].” Her words have fallen on deaf ears.

As Variety reports, Universal has canceled the release of The Hunt, previously set for September 27. The cancelation comes after three mass shootings and Universal said in a statement that “now is not the right time to release this film.” On the other hand, “We stand by our filmmakers,” associated with “this satirical social thriller.” Potential audiences might find “satirical” a bit odd, given the content.
“There’s some on-the-nose dialogue in the film itself making its political allegory even more clear,” explains James Hibberd at Entertainment Weekly. For example, one character asks “Did anyone see what our ratf—-er-in-chief just did?” Fortunately, “at least the hunt’s coming up. Nothing better than going out to the manor and slaughtering a dozen deplorables,” as Hibberd notes, “referring to Hillary Clinton’s term for some of Trump’s supporters.”
In the CNN report on the cancelation, “every year ‘elites’ hunt average Americans from states like Wyoming and Mississippi for sport.” Americans in all states have good cause to wonder if the movie was more like cinéma vérité, as studios like to say, based in part on actual events.

“VIENNA (Sputnik) – Islamic terrorism remains the greatest threat to Austria’s security, with supporters of Daesh* still present in the country, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Counterterrorism (BVT) said in a report, issued on Wednesday.
The counterintelligence body’s report, dedicated to the situation in Austria in 2018, pointed out that the Alpine nation enjoyed more security than other EU countries. The BVT said that, last year, fewer people had left Austria for Syria and Iraq to join terrorists. The country also faced no terror attacks in 2018.
At the same time, the report still views Islamic terrorism as the main threat to Austria. BVT Director Peter Gridling stressed that, despite Daesh’s defeat, there are still some of its supporters in Austria and IS leaders remain active and have large amounts of funds.
Gridling noted that last year, 320 people wanted to leave Austria for Syria and Iraq, with 62 of them having been prevented from the journeys, 93 having returned to Austria and 58 likely to have been killed. According to the BVT, 107 militants from Austria are still fighting in conflict areas.
The BVT director also marked the decreasing number of left extremist crimes, while right extremism was on the rise.
Daesh is an international terror organisation that is actively disseminating ideas of radical Islam across the world. The group seized huge territories in Syria and Iraq in 2014, which were later retaken by the countries’ governments. The organisation has also claimed responsibility for a number of terror attacks that have occurred around the world.

According to FireEye, a cybersecurity company headquartered in Milpitas, California, a group of state-sponsored hackers in China ran activities for personal gain at the same time as undertaking spying operations for the Chinese government in 14 different countries.
In a report released on Thursday, July 8th, the authors outlined the ways in which elite teams of Chinese government-backed hackers are using non-public malware typically reserved for espionage to make money through attacks on video game companies.
Hackers have repeatedly gained access to game development environments, with a particular focus on in-game currency, according to the FireEye report.
In one example, hackers successfully appropriated tens of millions of dollars of virtual currency and credited the loot to more than 1,000 accounts. As Josh Taylor at The Guardian notes, China’s “attention to video game companies could be seen as a precursor to espionage activity.”
Then again, espionage is something at which the Chinese regime excels.

“A 26-year-old illegal migrant was arrested in Bordeaux this week after being accused of raping a woman while working as a delivery man for Uber Eats.
The Bangladeshi illegal is suspected of raping a 22-year-old student in Paris earlier this month after she had ordered food using the Uber Eats app at around 3:05 am after getting home from being out, Le Parisien reports.
The man arrived at the woman’s apartment building a short time later and noticed that she was groggy as she had previously taken a sleeping pill. Noticing this, he is said to have forced his way in and raped the woman in her apartment before leaving and fleeing the area.
After the woman contacted police to report the sex attack, officers arrived on the scene and found a glove belonging to the attacker and were able to match a sample fingerprint from the glove to the Bangladeshi man.
A source close to the case claims the man bragged to his friends about the incident and even took a picture of the victim. The family of the migrant, however, were not impressed by his behaviour and worked with police to find him.
Uber Eats also worked with police to track down the man who was caught in Bordeaux this week, attempting to board a bus to Spain in an effort to escape French authorities.
The case is not the first time Uber has had to deal with rape accusations against its drivers or deliverymen. A lawsuit from 2017 claimed that thousands of Uber passengers had been sexually assaulted, harassed, or raped by Uber drivers.
In December of that same year, another Uber driver in Lebanon was accused of not only raping a 30-year-old British female diplomat but murdering her as well.
Earlier this year in London, a man pretending to be an Uber driver kidnapped, robbed, and raped a woman after tricking her into thinking he was the driver she had ordered.”

Freedom of the press? Transparency? Not when CNN analyst April Ryan is speaking. Video taken August 3rd by a reporter shows April Ryan apparently siccing her security guard on the reporter who was videotaping her speech at a New Brunswick, New Jersey charity event by Project Ready. After speaking with Ryan–who stopped her speech shortly after beginning it because it was being filmed–the guard is seen stealing the reporter’s camera and taking it out of the banquet hall at The Heldrich Hotel. Hotel security video later shows Ryan’s guard manhandling the reporter in the lobby and forcibly ejecting him from the hotel. Another man, in a blue suit, pulls a handgun and points it at the reporter! It is not clear if the man who pulled the gun on the reporter is hotel or Ryan security.

The People’s Republic must also protect “private property, ownership of enterprises, legitimate rights of inheritance and foreign investment by law”. Margaret Thatcher, under whose auspices this Treaty was negotiated, ensured that it came as close as possible to enshrining in law the way of life shared across the globe by the English-speaking peoples, among whom Hong Kong by right and by choice belonged. In short, China is bound by international law to preserve Hong Kong’s character as a community enjoying full personal and economic liberties under the rule of law. At least five police officers were wounded in a confrontation with possibly two gunmen Wednesday afternoon in the Tioga section of North Philadelphia.
Police said four were struck by gunfire.
The first report of shots fired came at 4:30 p.m. in the 3700 block of North 15th Street, police said.
Initially, police said there was one shooter inside a house on the block still firing shots shortly before 5 p.m. Later, police said they believed there were two shooters inside.

South Bend, Indiana mayor Pete Buttigieg reportedly helped create an alert system that would notify families if Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raided his residents’ homes or businesses.
The “phone tree,” according to The Daily Beast on Wednesday, was one of several actions Buttigieg took to protect illegal immigrants in his town. Phone trees consist of an automated calling system that helps spread messages quickly and efficiently.
Those would presumably help alert immigrants to the type of surprise raids that resulted in nearly 700 arrests in Mississippi.
