Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden made an odd statement on Thursday while campaigning in Iowa, telling a group of supporters “we choose truth over facts.”
Biden, 76, was presumably referring to the Democrat Party when he told the audience: “We choose science over fiction; we choose truth over facts.”

Asia Bibi, a Christian woman born in Pakistan, narrowly escaped a death sentence recently over false accusations of blasphemy, triggered by a conflict with Muslim colleagues.
The organisation Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) has sounded the alarm at the increasing number of cases of forced conversion of Christian and Hindu women to Islam, Vatican News reported. ACN indicated that young women, and even teenagers from religious minorities, are the key targets of the perpetrators.
“Every year at least a thousand girls are kidnapped, raped, and forced to convert to Islam, even forced to marry their tormentors”, Tabassum Yousaf, a Catholic lawyer from Rome, Italy said at the conference, hosted by ACN.
Yousaf further called on the international community and media to take steps to enhance the protection of religious minorities in Pakistan and advocated for improving the access to education for young women living in the country.
The ACN has been fighting forced conversions by lobbying for changes to be made in Pakistan’s laws in order to raise the legal age of marriage from 16 to 18 and by introducing stricter legislation against abductions.
In a recent case that took place in July 2019, an underage Christian girl was abducted in Lahore. When she was found, police reported that the victim had officially converted to Islam and that her abductor had forced her to marry him.
One of the most notorious cases of pressure on religious minorities was the case of Asia Bibi, a Christian farm worker who fell into conflict with her Muslim colleagues after she drank from a Muslim-only well and offered water from it to others.
Her colleagues accused her of blasphemy against the Prophet Muhammad, a crime punishable by death in Pakistan. Asia Bibi was sentenced to capital punishment, but after several unsuccessful appeals was finally found non-guilty and released. She had to flee the country due to countless death threats that were sent to her and her family by radical Islamists.”

Limit Some Guns for Cosmetic Reasons

Gun manufacturers are appealing to men’s egos by designing guns that look more and more like weapons of war. That’s irresponsible.
It seems to be necessary to begin every discussion in America today with a reminder to show a little charity. If you oppose gun control, don’t assume that those proposing restrictions on gun purchases are merely using the latest atrocity as an excuse for confiscation. Likewise, gun opponents should rid themselves of the notion that, but for the evil machinations of the NRA, commonsense gun control would have been enacted long since and would have prevented the loss of many lives. Show some good faith. Both gun controllers and gun advocates grieve at mass murders and wish there were a simple solution.

Richard: Full discloser, I don’t like the Armilite Platform (AR stands for Armilite Rifle) they have clockwork tolerances on their moving parts which makes them prone to jamming if not meticulously maintained. They come with a trigger pull that it (putting it kindly) bad, although you can spend a couple of hundred dollars to get an after market trigger group that is better.
Having said that what most people who object to the AR type rifles don’t understand is that the people who buy the AR platform rigles aren’t (for the most part) buying the rifle because it looks like a military rifle. They are buying them because they think that the US government won’t give the troops anything but the best. This attitude shows that they don’t know much military history but it is still prevalent.
Another reason to not stop making and selling civilian legal versions of the military rifles is that if we let the gun control groups (gun grabbers) drive one type of firearm off the market they will decide that they can chose another type and start complaining about it and drive it off the market. Their goal is to disarm all of the civilians in the US, they don’t like and don’t understand the Second Amendment and have only a poor grasp of the rest of the Constitution and have no idea why it was written.

“Five asylum seekers aged between 17 and 22 have been convicted in a court in Austria of raping a 13-year-old girl.
The incident occurred in October of last year and saw the 13-year-old girl meet the five asylum seekers at the central railway station in Graz.
The young men are said to have lured the young teen to an apartment where they gave her alcohol and other substances before making her undress, Kronen Zeitung reports.
The migrants, two of which had already been convicted of drug offences, began to become aggressive and eventually violent when the 13-year-old victim attempted to resist them and each is said to have taken turns raping her.
The entire ordeal was also filmed by one of the migrants on his mobile phone. The phone, along with the footage, was later discovered by police.
All of the defendants were sentenced to several years, with one receiving a seven-year sentence but none of the sentences is final as the asylum seekers have filed an appeal in the case.
The case comes two years after a similar gang rape case in Vienna in which eight Iraqi migrants were convicted for gang-raping a German tourist that occurred on New Year’s Eve.
The incident saw the young woman, who was highly intoxicated, taken to an apartment in the second district of the city and repeatedly raped by men between the ages of 22 and 48, most of them related to each other.
All of the men were sentenced to lengthy prison terms with the highest, a ten-year sentence, handed down to a 27-year-old.
Neighbouring Germany has also seen a number of gang rape cases involving migrants since the height of the migrant crisis in 2015. In June, a total of eleven migrants, most of them Syrian, were put on trial for the gang rape of an 18-year-old in Freiburg.”

“Sudan’s notorious Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary has been selling weapons and military equipment to rebels from the Central African Republic, fuelling a military buildup that could threaten the country’s peace process, according to a UN report.
The RSF’s commander, Mohamed Hamdan Dagolo, commonly known as Hemeti, also met with Khartoum-based CAR militia leader Noureddine Adam several times in 2019.
Since the turn of the year, when a huge protest movement began in Sudan, Hemeti has been positioning himself as one of the country’s most powerful leaders and had a key role in the removal of longtime autocrat Omar al-Bashir.
Groups previously part of the Seleka coalition of rebels, who forcibly took power in CAR in 2013, have been buying weapons and pickup trucks from the RSF, despite signing peace agreements with the government, according to the report published at the end of July.
“FPRC [The Popular Front for the Rebirth of CAR] and UPC [Union for Peace in CAR] have continued to acquire weapons, ammunition and pickup vehicles from and/or through Sudanese territory, with the complicity of elements from the Rapid Support Force,” said the report authored by a panel of UN experts.
According to the report, former Seleka groups purchased pickup trucks in Sudan’s western Darfur region between January and May 2019. Darfur borders CAR and is the birthplace of the Janjaweed militia, from which the RSF was formed.
The report details how several CAR rebel groups travelled between the Darfuri towns of Nyala and Birao, across the border in to the Central African Republic, to buy vehicles, assault rifles, grenade launchers, ammunition and uniforms.
Dozens of machine gun-mounted pickup trucks were spotted in Birao in January 2019, as rival groups displayed their replenished arms stocks. The RSF deployed 60 vehicles of fighters to the border at the time.
According to the report, the rebels claimed they were acquiring weaponry to prepare for potential government offensives against them.
Exiled Sudanese broadcaster Radio Dabanga has previously reported that Russian forces have trained former Seleka rebels from a base near the border in south Darfur.
The UN report also notes that Russian military instructors had been involved in the transfer of “material” from Sudan into CAR.
The largely Muslim Seleka fighters were accused of abuses against CAR Christians during their military offensive on the capital Bangui in 2013, which prompted a backlash by rival “anti-Balaka” militias that targeted Muslims…”

Abu Ali Al-Basri, the head of Iraqi Interior Ministry’s Falcons Intelligence Cell, said that Al-Baghdadi is in Syria.
Al-Basri also said that Al-Baghdadi suffers from paralysis of his limbs due to missile shrapnel injuries in the spinal column during an operation by the Falcons Intelligence Cell in coordination with the air force. This occurred during a meeting between Al-Baghdadi in Hajin, southeast of the Syrian governorate of Deir ez-Zor, before its liberation in 2018.
Al-Basri added that, most recently, Al-Baghdadi had given high priority to resist the intelligence threats and protect Daesh from penetration.”

“A French court sentenced Italian-Moroccan Rajaei Moujahid, tried on charges of forming a gang with terrorist intentions and kidnapping children, to 8 years imprisonment.
The prosecution had demanded six years in prison for the 37-year-old. In 2017, Moujahid went to Syria, where she stayed for nine months with her three children.
According to RT Arabic, the Criminal Court held that the ruling was the “only appropriate punishment” for the woman’s conduct, and her “absolute denial of facts, to the point of denying the evidence of the file.”
The woman traveled to Syria in March 2017 after the deadly armed terrorist attacks in France, accompanied by her 9-year-old daughter and her 7 and 5-year-old sons.
The court pointed out that the woman, who was married at the time, joined a Syrian fighter of the “Ahrar al-Sham” movement, with whom she had maintained a long-distance relationship.

“Looking at a project like this, I can’t think of something that is more useful to do with your money [than] to help detained families,” said Ryan Smith, a case manager with Chicago’s Interfaith Community for Detained Immigrants.
“It’s something that’s underfunded, and for the families I work with it’s often eight months to a year before they’re released,” Smith added.
More than 50,000 people are currently detained in Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities, while some 20,000 are in Customs and Border Protection centers, the report said. Another 11,000 children are currently in the custody of the Department of Health and Human Services.
The detained immigrants — undocumented or legal asylum-seekers — are held in detention facilities until they go to trial, where the court will decide whether they can stay in the country, or until they can pay their bond.
According to the Freedom for Immigrants foundation, these cash bonds are typically higher than bails in criminal cases and can reach as high as $250,000, with an average of $14,500.
Smith said the most of his cases range from $10,000 to $15,500.
Scores of migrants from Central American countries are grappling with the U.S. anti-migrant policy at the border.
U.S. President Donald Trump has pursued a hardline approach to immigration, both legal and illegal, since coming to office and has particularly singled out Mexico for what he says is a lack of action to stem migrant flows, where people are fleeing destitute conditions, including rampant poverty and gang violence in the hopes of securing safety or asylum in the U.S.
In May, Trump announced tariffs on imports of Mexican goods that were ultimately averted when the U.S. and Mexico reached an agreement the following month that included Mexican efforts to increase security at the country’s northern border as well as additional efforts to stem migrant flows.
Washington also signed a safe third country agreement with Guatemala to reduce immigration flows in late July.
The agreement forces Central American migrants to apply for asylum in Guatemala and be rejected in that country before they can apply in the U.S., even though under U.S. law migrants are allowed to apply for asylum within the U.S. or at official ports of entry.”

“Sweden’s Justice and Migration Minister Morgan Johansson has hit back at a Polish MEP who claimed Swedes were “fleeing” to Poland to escape crime and multiculturalism in their home country.
Polish MEP Beata Mazurek singled out Sweden as an example of negative “consequences of multiculturalism and open doors to immigration”, saying “Swedes are fleeing their country to find peace and normality in Poland”.
In 2018, 1,689 people moved from Sweden to Poland, including 1,377 Polish-born people and 241 Swedes. In the same period, 3,851 people moved from Poland to Sweden, according to Statistics Sweden.
Mazurek, a former spokesperson for the Polish national-conservative party Law and Justice and current member of the European Parliament’s group of European Conservatives and Reformists ( ECR), falsely claimed there were “sharia zones” in Sweden and listed “murders, increased crime, rape” as consequences of Sweden’s immigration policy.
Johansson told Swedish daily Aftonbladet that the claims were false, citing immigration and crime statistics.
“It’s completely pulled out of the air,” he said. “In 2017-2018 alone, more than 8,000 Poles moved to Sweden, more than three times the total number of Swedes who live in Poland. The MEP should therefore rather ask herself why so many Poles are ‘fleeing’ Poland.”
He added: “Something which we actually do have a problem with is foreign gangs of thieves, not least from Poland. Foreign gangs are behind around half of all break-ins in Sweden and 90 percent of all thefts of cars, boat engines, and agricultural machinery. If the MEP can do something about that, I’d be grateful.”
The country does not keep official records on the ethnicity of perpetrators, but a recent government-ordered study by National Council on Crime Prevention (Brå) found no link between the rise in reported rapes and assaults and the arrival of refugees.
While Sweden has seen a rise in reported rapes since 2005, this was said by Brå to be likely due to “the expanding of the legal definition of rape” that year. Another factor is the way in which sexual crimes are reported in Sweden, where all reported events are recorded as crimes and several offences of the same type are recorded separately, whereas many other countries would count multiple rapes or assaults by the same perpetrator as one offence.
Mazurek shared an article from the conservative daily newspaper Nasz Dennik, according to which there are 2,500 Swedish citizens resident in Poland. Citing a Twitter survey conducted by the far-right account PeterSweden, run by a British national resident in Norway, it stated that many Swedes wanted to leave the country for “their safety and that of their families”.
The article also falsely stated that Sweden was home to 80 neighbourhoods “practically controlled by Islamists, where Sharia is in force”, with Stockholm’s Rinkeby suburb as “the largest” and saying “the police don’t show up there, the ambulance can’t come in, there is chaos”.
Rinkeby is one of around 60 neighbourhoods described by police as ‘vulnerable’ or ‘especially vulnerable’, meaning they are “characterized by a low socio-economic status where criminals have an impact on the local community”.
These areas, including Rinkeby, sometimes require emergency services to act differently – for example avoiding parking vehicles in certain areas due to higher than average vandalism, or engaging in long-term community building work, but police officers working in these areas have previously told The Local there are no “no-go zones” in Sweden.”

“In 2017, a Facebook video posted by the far-right AfD amassed numerous hate-filled comments against refugees. German authorities said they’ve fined nearly 100 people over their remarks and are probing scores of others.
German prosecutors in the southern state of Bavaria said on Friday that they’ve launched 257 official incitement investigations over a Facebook campaign by the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) that targeted asylum-seekers.
The investigations have resulted in fines for 97 people so far, prosecutors in the town of Deggendorf told local public broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk.
Three people have been formally charged with incitement, although it is not clear when their court dates will be.
Another 56 cases had to be dropped, as investigators could not determine exactly who was behind the comments as users hid their identities with pseudonyms.
Video sparks ‘xenophobic’ comments
The massive incitement case concerns a video posted in 2017 by Deggendorf’s local AfD branch that criticized a protest by asylum-seekers.
The demonstrators were carrying out a hunger strike and protesting against the conditions at a migrant processing center in the town.
The livestreamed video garnered hundreds of “insulting, hateful, and xenophobic comments,” reported Bayerischer Rundfunk, who was shown the comments that are currently under investigation.
“Is it hunting season?” asked one user.
Others used insulting and racist terms and called for the protesters to be gassed or sent to the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz.
The comments came not only from Facebook users in Bavaria, but all across Germany, prosecutors told Bayerischer Rundfunk. Authorities added that none of the comments were sent from foreign accounts.
‘No one can hide behind a screen’
Martin Sicher, the head of the AfD in Bavaria, said that the party blocked Facebook users who made comments that could be criminal.
“We would wish that the state controls its own borders as it does online comments,” Sicher added.
Other officials in Bavaria hailed the progress in the investigation.
“No one can hide behind a screen, not even with pseudonyms or made-up names,” Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann said.
Facebook and other social media giants have come under fire in recent years for not doing enough to combat hate speech on their platforms.
In Germany, it is illegal to spread messages that “incite hate” against others based on their nationality, race, religious or ethnic backgrounds.”

The clashes erupted in the fourth brigade of the security forces, the reports added.
The sources told Al Arabiya that the separatist Southern Transitional Council had taken control of the camp.
Earlier, a source said that three people were killed and 13 others injured in artillery shelling between the forces of Yemen’s separatist Southern Transitional Council (STC) and government troops in Aden, the seat of the country’s internationally-recognized authorities, on Friday.
The news come as fighting between separatists and government forces in Aden has entered its third day.
“Mortar shells hit residential areas in Dar Sad district in northern Aden, killing three people, including a child, and injuring 10 others,” the source in local authorities said.
The source added that three civilians were injured in a separate incident when a shell hit an area near a bank in the city’s Sheikh Othman district.
