Former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf and late Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee held two days of parleys in Agra in northern Uttar Pradesh, and according to reports, a “solution to Kashmir was in the grasp of both governments”. President Musharraf had proposed what was called the “Four-point solution” to Kashmir, which according to different accounts was even acceptable to Vajpayee, but a final deal slipped away.”

“SAUDI ARABIA was rocked again last night by two Houthi missile drones which struck the southern Abha airport – but their battle isn’t only against the Yemeni rebels.
Saudi Arabia has been targeting the Houthi rebels in Yemen since its coalition invaded the country in 2015. The incursion has led to widespread famine, human rights abuses and many breaches of international law. However, the Kingdom is actually fighting on two fronts in Yemen, with an ongoing skirmish against UAE-backed separatists thinning the military lines.
Riyadh has long backed exiled President Mansour Hadi, who took charge from Ali Abdullah Saleh amid the early stages of the Yemeni uprising.
Mr Hadi was forced to resign by the Houthis after mass protests over fuel rises and an alleged betrayal of democracy.
After fleeing the country to neighbouring Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom began its brutal bombing campaign against his ousters.
Southern Transitional Council fighters have fought on the same side as the Kingdom since then, as both aim to negate Houthi influence.

There are now signs that the separatists are looking to take control of Aden – a strategic city currently home to Mr Hadi’s government.
Local journalist Ahmed Maher said that the Crater district will be targeted as it contains the highest point in the city.
He added: “If they capture the palace and its vicinity, they would be able to easily target any of the city’s neighbourhoods from the Jebel Hadid hilltop.”
Seizing the presidential palace would also be a symbolic indication that there is now a three-way war going on.
It is also thought that the separatists could simply be taking advantage of the worn-down Saudi forces.
Analysis from Express.co.uk last month suggested that the Houthi rebels are, in conjunction with Iranian tactics, targeting the Saudi oil supply which is so crucial to the Kingdom.
Despite being the invading party, three years of Houthi resistance could have weakened Saudi Arabia significantly.
The separatists have said that they have no choice but to restore stability in the country.
European representative Ahmed bin Fareed said: “Our aim remains de-escalation of violence, hence why we are trying to stabilise the situation in Aden and ensure rule of law in the absence of a credible legitimate government.”
The Yemen crisis started in 2011 following an uprising, which itself was part of the Arab Spring.
Mr Saleh’s government was deposed and Mr Hadi took over in 2012.
Saudi Arabia’s intervention in 2015 preceded the Yemeni Civil War, which has seen rebel Houthi forces take on the Gulf States.
The Houthis currently control the capital Sana’a, supported by Iran.
Meanwhile, the Saudi-led coalition – backed up by the US – controls Aden and most of the countryside.
It is seen as a crucial part of the ongoing ‘Cold War’ between Iran and the US in the Middle East.”

“Swedish police in the city of Uppsala have warned women walking alone at night to avoid certain areas entirely after the city saw four sex attacks in as many days.
Between August 3rd and August 7th, four women were sexually attacked by unknown perpetrators with two of the attacks resulting in rape, while the remaining two others were attempted rapes, Swedish newspaper Expressen reports.
On Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning, police were alerted to a rape attempt in the centre of the city with a woman claiming that a random stranger grabbed her inappropriately and then ran off after she fell to the ground.
Police officer Linda Winge said the attack appeared totally random and that so far they had no located a suspect in the case.
Mikael Hedström, a press spokesman for the Uppsala police, said that women and men should be more cautious alone at night.
“Women in town should not be worried but must think about how to behave. Perpetrators are looking for solitary men and women, so it is important how they move,” he said.
“Feel free to walk on illuminated streets and not alone in alleys or parks,” he added and recommended people talk to friends on the way home or travel with others.
“We take security-creating measures, but we cannot be in all places. Both men and women have to think ahead,” he said.
According to a report by Swedish broadcaster SVT last year, the vast majority of rape cases involving strangers are committed by migrants with migrants making up 85 per cent of assault rapes involving cases where the victim and rapist were not acquainted with one another.
Among those cases, around half involved migrants who had been living in Sweden for less than a year before the incident took place.
A report from the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention (Brå) released earlier this year revealed that the overall number of rape cases had increased by eight per cent last year and 33 per cent over the last decade.”

Moroccans Sign a Petition in Support of Belgian Volunteers
A group of Moroccan political and cultural representatives have launched an online petition in support of the Belgian volunteers who have been at the center of a media controversy this week for wearing shorts.
Rabat – “WEAR YOUR SHORTS” reads the petition, which was launched yesterday on Facebook.
The petition, among other things, asks Moroccan politician Ali El Asri to step down because of comments he made on social media regarding a group of young Belgian volunteers.
The volunteers from the organization Bouworde have caused a media controversy this week. On Saturday August 3, Moroccan news outlets shared videos and photos of the volunteers building a road in the remote village of Adar, east of Agadir. The girls were praised in the media for their initiative.
However, the girls’ attire, short shorts, was quick to receive criticism.
A 26 year old teacher from the north of Morocco posted on Facebook that “their heads should be cut off so that no one else dares to challenge the teachings of our religion.” He was arrested on Tuesday, August 6, by Moroccan police.
A parliamentary member of the Justice and Development Party (PJD) Ali El Asri also criticized the group’s clothing, and suggested the group’s volunteer initiative had an ulterior motive.

The comments have angered many, and a group of four Moroccan political and cultural representatives have launched an online petition supporting the Belgian volunteers, condemning the teacher, and demanding the politician step down.

“[We] ask that the teacher be brought to justice for supporting terrorism, and that the deputy resign.”

The writer Narjis Rerhaye, alongside the founder of the association “Marocains Pluriels” promoting diversity and tolerance, Ahmed Ghayet, political leader Ouafa Hajji, and the president of the Moroccan Association for Journalism Najib Senhadji launched the petition.

Demands to Arrest Moroccan MP on Charges of Inciting Terrorism
A comment made by Islamist parliamentarian Ali El Asri on photos of Belgian volunteers wearing shorts during their contribution to building a road in the rural village of Taroudant near Ouarzazate has spurred a debate among Moroccans and on social media.
Lawyer and rights activist El Habib Hajji sent a request to the examining magistrate specialized in terrorism, demanding the arrest of the lawmaker on charges of inciting terrorism.
Cultural figures and activists also launched a petition against what they called “promoters of hate.”
The Moroccan security arrested earlier a teacher at Ksar el-Kebir on charges of terrorism and hatred because of a blog post, in which he called for beheading the Belgian volunteers.
“Their heads should be cut off so that no one else dares to challenge the teachings of our religion,” he said.
Amid this debate, new photos of the volunteers showed them wearing the traditional costume of Taroudant, in addition to other pictures of them being received by the imam of the village mosque.
Asri published a comment, wondering whether construction work in Europe is ever carried out ”in a bathing suit”.
”Everybody knows how the issue of security on the job is important in Europe: tourists can’t get near construction sites without wearing helmets, appropriate outfits and gloves”.
He went on to express his doubts about the aim of the initiative and whether it was truly humanitarian or had other objectives.
He then posted a note addressed to the Minister of Interior Affairs, requesting to see the documents on the funding of the project.
Acknowledging that the construction work is of great benefit to the neediest people who live in isolated areas, Asri asked the minister to be vigilant because volunteer initiatives can be used for unknown purposes.
The MP then proposed that the Interior Ministry issue an annual report on all restoration work to be presented for parliamentary examination.

The US has no formal ties with Taiwan but is bound by law to help provide the island with help and is its main source of arms.

“A Canadian tourist held in Syrian detention since 2018 has been released.
Kristian Lee Baxter arrived in the country on 26 November and stopped contacting his family about a week later.
His mother, Andrea Leclair, previously described her son as a “world traveller” and “adventurer”.
“I thought I would be there forever,” Mr Baxter said during an emotional appearance at a news conference in Beirut on Friday.
“I didn’t know if anyone knew if I was alive,” he added.
Lebanon’s security chief Abbas Ibrahim, who appeared alongside him, said the Canadian was detained for “reasons related to breaking Syrian law”.
Mr Ibrahim was also involved in securing the release of a US traveller, Sam Goodwin, from Syria last month.
Canada has advised citizens against travelling to Syria since civil war broke out in 2011.
“Syria is not safe for personal travel,” the advisory on their website says. “Attempting any form of travel in this very hazardous security environment would place you at grave risk.”
Canada’s foreign ministry said in a short statement on Friday they were “very relieved” at Mr Baxter’s release and thanked the Lebanese government for its assistance in the case.
Mr Baxter, who was 44 when he went missing, was supposed to return home on 13 December.
Ms Leclair told CTV News in January that her son had been staying at a village near the Lebanese border after arriving there from Beirut. He reportedly disappeared while attempting to locate a driver who had gone back to Lebanon to retrieve his luggage, which arrived there by plane after him.
The driver was reportedly detained on the border when a metal detector was found in her son’s bag, Ms Leclair said.
The circumstances of Mr Baxter’s detention and release have not been revealed by officials.”

“A Scottish sweet manufacturer is seeing sales of its fudge and toffee surge in Iraq. What’s feeding that growing popularity?
In northern Iraq, shops are rushing to fill their shelves with sweets. The Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha, or Festival of the Sacrifice, is approaching – and it is an important part of the year for confectionery businesses.
In Iraqi Kurdistan, as elsewhere, the four-day festival which starts on Sunday is a time for celebration and feasting – and sweets are very much on the menu.
That’s good news for Sulaymaniyah-based businessman Farhad Haseb, who sells confectionery to upmarket stores in Erbil and Dohuk, as well as other towns and cities in the region.
“In our culture, everyone buys very sweet things to give to their guests when they are visiting their homes,” he says.
“Toffee is a very popular choice for Kurdish people, especially at Ramadan and Eid.”
And families across Iraqi Kurdistan will be tucking into sweets that have been made 2,600 miles away in Scotland.
Greenock-based confectioner Golden Casket, which is probably best known in the UK for its Millions brand, is one of Mr Haseb’s main international suppliers.
He first linked up with the Scottish company several years ago at a confectionery trade show, and has been ordering increasing amounts of its Halal-certified fudge, chocolate eclairs and assorted toffees each year.
Iraq is now Golden Casket’s third biggest export market, after America and Ireland.
The family-owned firm produces about 70 tonnes of toffees, boilings, fudges, chocolates and chews a week.
So far this year, it has sent more than 60 tonnes of its Buchanan’s brand sweets to the region.
So what’s behind the success of Scottish toffee in Iraqi Kurdistan?
“In our culture, eclairs and butter toffees are very popular,” says Mr Haseb.
“We buy them from Belgium and Poland but Scottish toffee is the best – it is more chewy. We are selling more and more each year.”
Mr Haseb, whose company Arak Garden imports more than 200 tonnes of toffee and chocolate a year, expects to place more orders with Golden Casket this year.
The Scottish company, which is also known in the UK for its “One Pounders” bags, has been making adjustments to cater for the growing Iraqi market.
It recently installed new machinery to boost its chocolate eclair production capacity.
The company has also been paying close attention to the packaging of products for the Iraqi market.
Sales manager Stuart Rae explains: “Each jar of toffee or fudge has got to be gold wrapped – gold being a sign of quality – and it has to be made in the UK.
“That’s the high-end stuff for the Kurdish market in Iraq.”
Golden Casket’s managing director Crawford Rae, who is also chairman of Greenock Morton Football Club, sees Iraq and the surrounding region as a “great opportunity”.
He says: “We exhibited in Dubai for the first time in November – that’s an emerging market and one that we want to break into, and export is certainly a growth potential for us.”
The Kurdish link is a welcome one for Golden Casket, especially as the general confectionery market in the UK remains relatively flat at the moment.
However, Golden Casket is not the only Scottish food and drink firm to identify Iraq as a potentially lucrative market.
Earlier this year, Tunnock’s – which has been exporting to the Middle East for more than 50 years – sent its first shipment of Caramel Wafers and Caramel Logs to the country.
Sales director Fergus Loudon said: “Iraq is a relatively new market for Tunnock’s. The initial feedback has been very positive, with the distributor there ready to place the next order.
“It’s obviously an emerging market, but we hope that some day soon Tunnock’s biscuits will be as popular in Iraq as they are in other countries across the Middle East.””

House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi called the treatment of migrants in the US ‘shameful’ at a news conference in Guatemala City on Thursday.

The House Speaker also commented on the US-Guatemala deal that was signed in July, which requires migrants passing through Guatemala to seek asylum there since it has been declared a ‘safe third country’. “We have to see something in writing and I don’t think that this has been fleshed out in terms of what comes with that agreement. So we wait to see, because, as you know, it has very serious ramifications in the lives of individual people,” she said.
US Representative Norma Torres shared her view on the ‘safe third country’ agreement and said that Guatemala is not prepared to receive thousands of people back.

Italy’s deputy prime minister and the League party leader Matteo Salvini rallied before supporters in Rome on Thursday after he called for new elections saying the coalition government was not working.
“As long as you worked with the “Yes”, we worked well. A few months ago, the “No” started: the no to autonomy, the no to the TAV, the no to the justice reform, the no to the search for oil. One, two or three NOs are ok, but I don’t hold the chair to keep the country steady,” said Salvini.

Responding to allegations of the League’s funding by Russia, Salvini denied having received any financial support from other countries. “We ask the Italians for money if they give it to us voluntarily. ROME (AP) — Italy on Friday rapidly edged closer to an early election that could move the country farther to the right, with markets sinking amid political uncertainty and concerns that the country’s already touchy relations with the European Union could suffer.
Milan’s stock market plunged by 2.3 percent Friday morning, hours after Deputy Premier Matteo Salvini, whose right-wing League party is the junior coalition member, announced he would no longer support Premier Giuseppe Conte’s 14-month-old populist government.
Borrowing costs on Italian debt — a measure of investor confidence, jumped higher.
Pushing his anti-migrant agenda, Salvini is already unofficially campaigning to be the next premier. Although no new election date has been set, and the Italian president hasn’t indicated if or when he will dissolve Parliament, a return to the ballot box could come as early as late October.
A campaign and vote this fall would play out just as the Italian government, with Parliament’s support, hammers out a new budget to meet European Union rules. There are already concerns the government might have to hike value-added tax to cover populist spending aimed at pleasing voter constituencies.
“Salvini fires Conte: ‘Let’s Vote,’” was Italian daily La Stampa’s terse summation of the government crisis sparked by the League leader.
Conte demanded late Thursday that Salvini, who is also interior minister, lay out his reasons in Parliament for refusing to back the government he helped form after 2018 elections that brought populists to power for the first time in Italy.
It’s up to Salvini, in his roles as senator and League leader, “to explain to the country and justify to the voters who believed in the prospect of change the reasons that lead him to interrupt ahead of time, abruptly, the work of the government,” Conte said in a widely televised speech.
Salvini wants to capitalize on soaring popularity seen in opinion polls, local and regional voting and the European Parliament elections earlier this year. Those have also shown a plunge in support for the oft-bickering 5-Star Movement, the League’s coalition partner whose sometime left-leaning platform has kept the League from pulling the government farther to the right.
League senators on Friday pushed for a confidence vote in Parliament on Conte’s government that the premier would likely lose, given Salvini’s refusal to keep the coalition going.
Lawmakers had just left Rome for vacation, and it was unclear how soon the presidents of both chambers would call them back into session to hold debate and a vote.
Salvini is impatient to formally pull the plug on the government.
Lawmakers “should move their rear-ends and come to Parliament, if need be, even next week, because millions of Italians are also working the next week, and the week after,” Salvini told a sea of cheering supporters Thursday night in Pescara, a small city on the Adriatic.
Although he himself has spent much of the last few weeks at the beach, Salvini frequently depicts himself as the champion of the rank-and-file working class.
Far-right leader Giorgia Meloni, a likely ally in any League-led government, said in an interview with Corriere della Sera that elections could yield a government determined to make the “politically incorrect reforms that Italy needs,” making the country crack down even harder on immigration and adopting “Trumpian” economic policies along the lines of the U.S. administration.
An alliance with Meloni’s staunchly nationalist party could see Italy’s already often-tense relations with Brussels deterioriate.
Financial markets were digesting the possibility Salvini could be premier in a few months.
Michael Hewson, chief market analyst at CMC Markets UK, noted that Italian bond yields jumped sharply on the prospect that Salvini could “win a majority in any upcoming vote, an event that could take place sometime in October, just before the U.K. is scheduled to leave the European Union.”
“October could be an interesting month!” Hewson said in a written comment.

Muhammad Rodwan is charged with the attempted murder of PC Stuart Outten
A man accused of trying to kill a policeman with a machete appeared in handcuffs in court today.
Muhammad Rodwan, 56, is charged with the attempted murder of PC Stuart Outten, 28, just after midnight on Thursday morning.
He is also accused of possession of a machete in Leyton , East London, and was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey in four weeks time.
PC Outten is in a serious but stable condition in hospital after a man involved in the incident was tasered and arrested at the scene.
Rodwan, formerly of Luton, appeared wearing a grey prison tracksuit with a greying beard and medium length hair at Thames Magistrates’ Court.
Prosecutor Varinder Hayre said: “It was an unexpected, unprovoked, repeated brutal attack with a machete on a police officer who was simply conducting a police officer’s duty.”
No application for bail was made during the 10-minute hearing.
Deputy District Judge Adrian Turner remanded the defendant in custody until September 6.
He showed little emotion throughout the hearing and spoke only to confirm his name, age, that he had no address and British nationality.
PC Outten was stabbed in the face and body.
Detective Chief Superintendent Richard Tucker described how the driver of a van was “quite aggressive” towards the officers who stopped him on suspicion of having no insurance at the Coopers Lane junction with Leyton High Road .
He said a “violent struggle” ensued when the suspect tried to get back in the van and drive off.
The suspect is then alleged to have pulled out a machete and stabbed PC Outten.
The injured police officer was taken to the Royal London Hospital, in Whitechapel, and the entire incident was captured on a body-worn video camera.
Speaking of the officer, DCS Tucker added: “He is fine, but he is seriously injured but he will make a recovery.
“He’s in hospital with his family and loved ones.
“We want to thank members of the public who came out to help our officers.
“And also the staff from London Ambulance Service and the Royal London Hospital. ”
In an earlier statement Inspector Julia James said: “This was a sudden and brutal attack on a uniformed officer carrying out their duties. What began as a routine vehicle stop has transformed very quickly and unexpectedly into an unprovoked attack with a weapon.
“Our thoughts are with the injured officer and his family and we wish him a full recovery.
“I would like to commend his bravery and resilience especially as he managed to draw a taser, despite being repeatedly stabbed, to prevent the suspect harming anyone else and to protect himself from further injury. ”

New Explosion Hits Military Facility in Russia’s Krasnoyarsk Region, Five Injured
On Monday, a fire erupted at a military depot located near the Siberian city of Achinsk, which caused multiple explosions and left 13 people injured.
At least five people have been injured in a new explosion at a military ammunition depot near Achinsk, the Krasnoyarsk Region in Russia, emergency services said.
“Five hundred meters north of the village of Kamenka, an explosion took place during the movement of a cargo train, followed by a shock wave and damage to the glass in the train […],” the official said.
Per a press release, a projectile went off during maintenance works aimed at demining and neutralasing the consequences of the emergency in Kamenka, leading to injuries among the staffers and damage to a car.
“Five casualties were rushed away from the scene, four of whom were hospitalised. All of them are in average stable condition. They sustained barotraumas and shrapnel wounds,” a hospital source told Sputnik.

Police in Montreal are still looking for the man who was caught on video hurling insults at a Muslim woman and her young daughter.
The incident has been on the city’s police forces’ radar since July 24, when footage from the altercation went viral.
On Twitter, police reminded people that their investigation is ongoing. They urge people who “have been a victim of this man or recognize him” to report him.
In the video, a white man wearing khakis and a T-shirt can be seen getting closer to the woman, who’s not being identified to protect her identity and that of her child, and yelling, in French: “Go ahead and film me.”
The video posted to a Facebook group for the Algerian diaspora living in Montreal has been viewed more than 320,000 times.
The man apparently was set off by the woman speaking in Arabic to her daughter. He then yelled racial slurs and sexually violent threats in broad daylight on a Montreal street.
The woman was picking up her daughter from daycare. Another woman, who also speaks Arabic, saw the incident and began recording it. Neither woman wears a “visible” religious symbol, which a new law in Quebec regulates.
The controversial law prohibits public workers in positions of power, including kindergarten teachers, from wearing any religious symbols at work. People have pointed to this incident as proof that the law will embolden racists to stigmatize minorities in the province even further.

But it has become such a reflexive allegation that it has lost all meaning for good-faith political discourse.”
Perhaps mindful of that charge’s excessive use and in light of the Left’s growing insistence that Donald Trump is a white nationalist, liberals seem to be playing the “white supremacy” card with increasing frequency.
That card was played on Monday by the Daily Kos’s David Nir in reference to North Carolina State Sen. Dan Bishop, who on Saturday referred to Democrats as “clowns” on Twitter. And “clown,” Nir explains, is a “slur pushed by white supremacists.”

Mass murder is not a gun control problem.
In 2003, Kim Dae-han, a middle-aged taxi driver, killed 192 people and left 151 others wounded, by setting a South Korean subway train on fire using paint cans filled with gasoline. In 2016, Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel, a Muslim terrorist, killed 86 people and wounded 458 others by ramming a truck into a crowd celebrating Bastille Day in France. In 2001, Muslim terrorists killed 2,977 people and injured 6,000 more, by using box cutters to hijack airplanes and fly them into buildings.
Guns are a tool. There are a whole lot of other devastating ways to kill lots of people.
American mass killers often use guns because they’re convenient and available. There are plenty of alternatives like trucks, boxcutters, pressure cooker bombs and paint cans full of gasoline.
Mass murder isn’t caused by the tools you use. The Nazis were not inspired to kill Jews by the invention of Zyklon B. The Japanese did not decide to kill hundreds of thousands of Chinese civilians because of the availability of airplanes. The Soviet Communists did not commit their acts of mass murder because their arms stockpiles didn’t need a waiting period to obtain machine guns for their mass shootings.

As previously noted, after inviting me to lecture on my recent book on the military history between Islam and the West, the US Army War College (USAWC) reneged because CAIR cried “Islamophobia” and “racism.” In response, the office of Congressman Scott Perry—a graduate of the USAWC, which falls under his PA district—drafted a letter that was signed by nine other congressmen and delivered to the Commandant of the USAWC, John Kem.
The letter expressed the signatories’ “grave concern” that the USAWC “capitulated to the unfounded claims of CAIR, and thus damaged the academic freedom and integrity of the high esteem in which the USAWC is held by many around the world…. Not only are we hearing from constituents—military and civilian—on this issue, but we’re extremely disappointed in the decision to cancel Mr. Ibrahim and his voice on a critical, current issue in our Nation.” (Read the complete here).

Justice Democrats (JD), the leftist organization that helped elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to Congress last year, has announced its three latest endorsements for the 2020 elections to the House of Representatives: Alex Morse and Morgan Harper as primary challengers to Democratic incumbents Richard Neal (Massachusetts) and Joyce Beatty (Ohio), and Kara Eastman as a primary challenger to Republican incumbent Don Bacon (Nebraska). All three of JD’s candidates – including Eastman, the nominal Republican – are leftists/socialists, as evidenced by JD’s assertion that “we are honored to endorse these three candidates as part of a new generation of Democrats who will fight for Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, free college, and ending mass incarceration and deportation.”
