Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. Monastery church set on fire in Bad Schussenried, Germany+++
On the last Sunday between 5.30 and 5.50 p.m. there was an unknown person in the church in the monastery courtyard (photo). There he lit a cloth. It burned and the fire spread to the pictures next to it and a wooden cross. A witness discovered the fire and was able to extinguish it. According to witnesses, the arsonist was a 25-30 year old man with short hair. He was about 165-170cm tall and wore a green T-shirt and short beige trousers. The police station Bad Schussenried (phone 07583/942020) is now investigating the perpetrator.

  2. FGM Cases on the Rise Across France (breitbart, Jul 30, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/07/30/fgm-cases-on-the-rise-across-france/

“The number of cases of female genital mutilation (FGM) has risen substantially in the last 20 years, according to a report released by the French National Public Health Agency.

The rise in risk cases was highlighted in the agency’s 21st Weekly Epidemiological Bulletin (BEH), a peer-reviewed journal, which states that the estimated number of victims of FGM has risen from around 60,000 in the early 2000s to 124,355 within the span of just 10 years.

The majority of those at risk of FGM, 72 per cent, are migrants aged 18 to 40 years old and who predominantly come from French-speaking parts of Africa. Seventy per cent of the women come from either Senegal, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Mali, or Guinea, the reporte stated.

For women born in France, half live in the Ile-de-France region which contains both the capital city of Paris and the highly migrant populated suburb of Seine-Saint-Denis.

A report last year by the Group for the Abolition of Sexual Mutilation (GAMS) claimed that as many as 30 per cent of the children in the Paris suburbs could be at risk of FGM.

Isabelle Gillette-Faye, a sociologist and director of GAMS, said: “In general, they undergo mutilations of type 2, that is to say, the removal of the clitoris and labia minora.”

“We will be relieved when we have left circumcision two to three generations behind us. Families living in France are often resistant, as social and traditional pressures are very strong, and it is often the family remaining in the [original] country that decides.,” she added.

The BEH report also notes that France is likely to be the second-highest country in Europe in terms of FGM cases, behind only the United Kingdom.

While FGM has been illegal in the UK for decades, the first conviction for the practice came only this year in February when a 37-year-old Ugandan woman and her 43-year-old partner from Ghana were charged with mutilating their daughter’s genitals in 2017.

The mother in the case was found guilty, while the father was acquitted.”

  3. Study: ‘Trans Women’ Athletes Hold ‘Intolerable’ Advantage over Biological Females (breitbart, Jul 29, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2019/07/29/study-trans-women-athletes-hold-intolerable-advantage-over-biological-females/

“Researchers have concluded that male athletes who claim to be female hold an “intolerable” advantage over biological female athletes.

Results of a new study have ripped through the claims of House Democrats that it is a “myth,” simply “fearmongering,” and without scientific evidence that inclusion of biological men in female sports would leave women athletes at an unfair disadvantage.

Three professors — two in bioethics and one in physiology — note the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is allowing “transgender women” to compete against biological females if their testosterone is below ten nmol/L. However, even that level is “significantly higher” than that of biological females, they assert.

The authors cite research demonstrating that “healthy young men did not lose significant muscle mass (or power) when their circulating testosterone levels were reduced” for 20 weeks to meet the IOC’s guidelines.

The researchers also state that “indirect effects of testosterone will not be altered by hormone therapy.”

“For example, hormone therapy will not alter bone structure, lung volume or heart size of the transwoman athlete, especially if she transitions postpuberty, so natural advantages including joint articulation, stroke volume and maximal oxygen uptake will be maintained,” they explain.

“We conclude that the advantage to transwomen afforded by the IOC guidelines is an intolerable unfairness,” state the professors.

The study, titled “Transwomen in Elite Sport: Scientific and Ethical Considerations,” is released after House Democrats passed the Equality Act in May. The measure would ensure gender ideology is cemented into federal law by extending federal protections for sexual orientation and gender identity.

If the bill were to pass the Senate and be signed into law, federal law would then force girls’ and women’s sports to include biological males on female athletic teams.

Democrats and leaders of LGBTQ activist organizations openly supported the legislation, claiming fears that the inclusion of biological men in female sports would leave women athletes at an unfair disadvantage were unfounded.

In January, Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota recommended that her state attorney general, Keith Ellison, investigate USA Powerlifting for blocking biological males from competing in women’s events.

As the Daily Caller reported, Omar referred to the idea that biological male athletes identifying as women have an unfair advantage over biological females as a “myth.”

“The myth that trans women have a ‘direct competitive advantage’ is not supported by medical science, and it continues to stoke fear and violence against one of the most at-risk communities in the world,” she wrote in a letter to Ellison, who ultimately responded that he had no jurisdiction over investigations into weightlifters.

Democrat Rep. Katie Hill (CA) minimized concerns regarding biological male athletes competing against female counterparts.

“This is fear-mongering about transwomen playing in sports,” she said on the House floor during a debate. “Are you kidding me?”

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler also defended the Equality Act by observing some states include sexual orientation and gender identity as protected classes, including in women’s sports.

“Arguments about transgender athletes participating in sports in accordance with their gender identity having competitive advantages have not been borne out,” Nadler said, according to the Daily Caller.

Sarah Warbelow, director of LGBTQ civil rights activist organization the Human Rights Campaign, testified in favor of the legislation.

“Opponents of equality in athletics for transgender athletes have argued that girls who are transgender have unfair physiological advantages over cisgender girls and as a result, will dominate women’s competitive sports,” she said, adding that it is not “’rooted in fact’ that biological male athletes claiming to be female will outperform their female competitors.”

Several situations involving biological male athletes claiming to be females have made headlines.

In Cromwell, Connecticut, a biological male freshman high school student claiming to be a female and using the name Andraya Yearwood, consistently defeated all female competitors in track events in 2017.

    Breitbart News reported:

And, all of this has occurred quite despite the fact that Yearwood has taken no steps to transition into a girl. The runner stands taller than opponents, is clearly far more muscular, and even sports a faint, ever-present mustache.

A similar situation occurred in Alaska where Nattaphon “Ice” Wangyot beat his female counterparts, as Breitbart News also reported.

“Some politicians have lost all sense of reality when they push for biological men to compete in women’s sports,” said Liberty Counsel Chairman Mat Staver, adding that the Equality Act, which has been promoted under the “guise of ‘equality’ for all people,” actually puts males at an unfair advantage over their female competitors.

“As a result, female athletes who have trained hard to compete will lose titles, records, and scholarships that are rightfully theirs and even incur serious sports-related injuries,” he added. “There is nothing fair or equal about that.””

    • The researchers also state that “indirect effects of testosterone will not be altered by hormone therapy.”

But they will by homo therapy. That is, the therapy to cure aversions. To enjoy your own body. Testosterone levels back to normal.

      Off you go girls, unmolested.

    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/official-war-yemen-knocked-country-back-20-years-64649798

“A top U.N. official says the devastating five-year civil war in Yemen has knocked the country back 20 years in terms of development and access to education.

Yemen was already the Arab world’s poorest nation before the war, which has killed tens of thousands of people. In 2014, rebels known as Houthis took over the capital, Sanaa, prompting a Saudi-led military intervention that’s ground to a stalemate.

Achim Steiner, U.N. Development Program administrator, told The Associated Press on Monday that “Yemen has lost… 20 years of development.”

He says: “Thousands of schools are closed, millions of children aren’t able to attend school, missing a generation of education.”

He warns that one in every three Yemenis are at risk of starving to death, out of a population of 30 million.”

    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/greek-police-arrest-61-migrants-thessaloniki-violence-64649294

“Police in Thessaloniki have arrested 61 migrants for illegal residence in the country, in a crackdown following a string of violent incidents near the northern Greek city’s main railway station.

Officers were patrolling the area and carrying out identity checks Tuesday after the overnight arrests.

Police said the crackdown followed several violent clashes among rival groups of Afghan and Pakistani migrants over the past few days, which left four men injured — one of whom suffered gunshot wounds.

Hundreds of migrants live in the area round Thessaloniki’s railway station where they are dropped off by smuggling gangs bringing them over from Greece’s eastern border with Turkey.”

  6. Iran sentences former Tehran mayor to death for killing wife (abcnews, Jul 30, 2019)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/iran-sentences-tehran-mayor-death-killing-wife-64648591

“Iran’s state TV says a former mayor of Tehran who also served as one of the country’s vice presidents was sentenced to death for killing his wife.

Tuesday’s report quotes judiciary spokesman Gholamhossein Esmaili as saying that Mohammad Ali Najafi was convicted of fatally shooting his wife, Mitra Ostad. The verdict can be appealed within 20 days.

Police detained Najafi in May, after he went to authorities and confessed to the killing. At the time, officials said Najafi and Ostad, his second his wife, were having domestic problems.

Najafi resigned as mayor in 2018, after hard-liners criticized him over a video showing he attended a dance performance by young girls at a school show.

Gun violence is very rare in Iran, especially among the country’s political and economic elite.”

Jordanian TV host Dr. Ahmad Shahrouri, who is a shari’a professor at Al-Zaytoonah University of Jordan, said in a July 14, 2019 show on Yarmouk TV (Jordan) that the Muslims’ conflict with the Jews is an existential conflict.

He said that the land of Palestine belongs to the Palestinians, who he described as its eternal people who have lived there for 7,000 years, and he said that the fact that the Jews “passed through” Palestine for a 70-year period in history is absolutely meaningless.

Dr. Shahrouri rejected any accusation of antisemitism or racism, saying that he does not oppose any religion or human being, and he went on to say that he wants to “smash the head” of anybody who claims to be Jewish, who says that Jerusalem belongs to the Jews, and who refers to the Wall of the Buraq as the Wailing Wall.

He said that those who want to cut a deal with the Jews and to recognize Palestine as the Jewish homeland are losers, and that any Muslim who does not believe that the Jews are the enemies of the Muslims should go join the Jews and the Zionists.

Dr. Shahrouri added that Allah gave the Muslims the authority to defend themselves with any force at their disposal when someone “puts a knife to [their] throat.”

  11. Multicultural Birmingham Has Highest Female Genital Mutilation Rate in UK (breitbart, Jul 30, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/07/30/multicultural-birmingham-highest-fgm-rate-uk/

“A region of the multicultural Midlands city of Birmingham has seen the highest rate of newly-reported cases of female genital mutilation (FGM) in the UK.

Last year, the National Health Service (NHS) newly-recorded 305 cases of the mutilation in Birmingham and Solihull, nearly six news victims every week, according to BirminghamLive.

In total, including those already known to the NHS, 385 women and girls were seen by health authorities in the region in 2018/2019. For the vast majority (305) of those victims, it was not known when the procedure was undertaken — a proportion reflective of the nationwide figures published this month.

In terms of historic cutting committed when the victims were children, authorities were able to ascertain that 15 of the cases involved women and girls being less than one year old at the time of the abuse; 15 were aged between one and four years old; 45 were was aged five to nine; and around ten were aged 10 to 14.

The report of the regional figures comes after the NHS released nationwide statistics which revealed that between April 2018 and March 2019, 6,415 women and girls — an increase from 6,260 from the same period the year before — have been identified as victims of FGM. Of those, 4,120 were new cases, meaning the victims appeared in the dataset for the first time, adding to the tens of thousands of women and girls living in the UK believed to have had their genitals mutilated.

Like the regional figures for Birmingham, the nation-wide statistics revealed that it could not be identified in a large proportion (3,895 of the 6,415) of the victims when the mutilation had occurred. The highest proportion of those where the age at which the abuse took place was known were children under the age of five (1,065), followed by girls aged five to 10, where 805 victims were identified.

In terms of where the abuse took place, again there are large gaps in data where more than one-third (36 per cent) of cases have location unrecorded and nearly one-quarter (24 per cent) were simply unknown. More than one-third, 35 per cent, involved cases where the cutting happened in an African country, while 3.6 per cent happened in Asia, and 100 cases (1.6 per cent) occurred in the UK.

“Where both [country of birth and where FGM was carried out] were known, 85 per cent of women and girls were born and had FGM undertaken in an African country,” the report said.

FGM is a cultural practice undertaken mainly in parts of Africa and also parts of Asia that involve the cutting away of a pre-pubescent girl’s genitals. Type 1, a clitoridectomy, involves the partial or full removal of the clitoris whilst type 2, excision, is the removal of part or all of the clitoris, the inner labia, and sometimes the outer labia.

Type 3, infibulation, is the most extreme where the external genital material is remove and the vagina is intentionally narrowed by cutting and suturing the vulva. Other forms of the mutilation include pricking, piercing, scraping, cutting, or burning the genitals.

The abuse can cause not just medical problems, but mental health issues and complications during childbirth. Sometimes, the procedure can result in death. Last year, a father in Somalia — where 98 per cent of women are believed to have been cut — defended FGM after his 10-year-old daughter died after having the procedure.

The practice has been illegal since 1985, with a law coming into effect in 2003 that criminalised taking a female child abroad to have the procedure. However, despite a law being on the books for nearly 35 years, there has only been one successful prosecution, in February 2019, where a Ugandan woman living in the UK was jailed for 11 years after being convicted allowing FGM to be done to her three-year-old daughter.

The court had heard that the mother had used voodoo to attempt to ‘silence’ the health-workers, police, and others involved in the case. Police had found spells and names of those involved in fruit, mostly limes, hidden in the freezer in what was believed to have been a ritual to ‘freeze’ witnesses’ and experts’ mouths during the trial. Whole ox tongues wrapped in wire and struck through with nails and screws were also found, presumably to conjure the same result.”

Supporters say research could be vital first step towards growing organs that can then be transplanted into people in need

Human-animal hybrids are to be developed in embryo form in Japan after the government approved controversial stem-cell research.

Human cells will be grown in rat and mouse embryos, then brought to term in a surrogate animal, as part of experiments set to be carried out at the University of Tokyo.

Supporters say the work – led by renowned geneticist Hiromitsu Nakauchi – could be a vital first step towards eventually growing organs that can then be transplanted into people in need.

But opponents have raised concerns that scientists are playing God.

They worry the human cells could stray beyond the targeted organs into other areas of the animal, effectively creating a creature that is part animal, part person.

    • I have a lot of objections to this type of research, I see much more potential bad and very little good. In my opinion the 3D printing of organs using the recipients DNA has much more potential to provide transplant organs.

  15. Christian group warns against rise of ‘Christian nationalism’

A group formed by Christian leaders is warning against the rise of “Christian nationalism,” saying the merging of Christian and American identities poses a threat to U.S. democracy and religious communities.

“As Christians, we are bound to Christ, not by citizenship, but by faith,” Christians Against Christian Nationalism’s statement reads.

“Whether we worship at a church, mosque, synagogue, or temple, America has no second-class faiths. All are equal under the U.S. Constitution.”

The statement is endorsed by at least 17 Christian leaders from various churches and organizations, according to the group’s website.

The leaders say “Christian nationalism” seeks to bind Christianity and American citizenship in a way that “provides cover for white supremacy and racial subjugation.”

“Christian nationalism demands Christianity be privileged by the State and implies that to be a good American, one must be Christian,” the group said in its statement.

  17. Trump: The people of Baltimore are ‘living in hell’

President Trump tells reporters that Baltimore residents have been thanking him for pointing out the ‘tremendous corruption’ of the Democrat-run city under Rep. Elijah Cummings.

  18. Trump’s tweets about Elijah Cummings and Baltimore were effective
    By J.E. Dyer July 30, 2019

Jim Geraghty did an extended critical treatment in his “Morning Jolt,” posted at National Review’s The Corner on Monday, of Trump’s tweets from the weekend about Elijah Cummings (D-MD) and the Baltimore district he represents.

In a 1240-word tour d’horizon of shortcomings – Trump’s and Cummings’s – Geraghty managed to entirely miss the point of Trump’s tweets. Geraghty offers this, for example:

    https://libertyunyielding.com/2019/07/30/trumps-tweets-about-elijah-cummings-and-baltimore-were-effective/

Richard: She is pointing out how Trump is playing the media and the Dems like they are fiddles, (Like him or loathe him, Trump has found the secret of breaking the info-ops momentum of the Left. When the Left is trying to railroad America extra-constitutionally into selling every last vestige of liberty, rights, and the rule of law down the river, as it is with the info-ops campaigns against border security, Trump’s ability to simply shatter a line of effort with a handful of tweets is an absolute blessing.) This is the real reason that so many people dislike Trump, he breaks the attacks of the left and shifts the focus to real problems that have to be fixed.

Look at tthe Border Problem, the left was ignoring it and said it was a manufactured crisis, now they are admitting it is a real crisis. Without Trump and his tweets this wouldn’t have happened. The left was making political progress in their attacks on ICE and the police, in one day Trump broke that attack and shifted the attention to the Inner City district of a Dem controlled city. This has caused a lot of people in other Dem controlled cities to look at their inner city districts and start talking about how bad they are.

Trump is doing a lot more then talking about the problems, he is working to correct them. This is what the left hates, he is doing things they said couldn’t be done and is restoring the faith in American Exceptionalism This is driving the left crazy and brining hope to all freedom loving people around the world, they look at what he is doing and asking why their nations aren’t doing the same thing. They are asking why does Western Civilization have to collapse and our nations be destroyed by the inaction or deliberate action of our governments. Why do the people who talk about the problems in European nations have to spend long terms in Prison?

He is saving the US from the destruction that the left had planned, we now have to see if he can do the same for the other nations in the West.

  19. Suspected Frankfurt attacker was wanted by Swiss police

A resident of canton Zurich suspected of pushing an eight-year-old boy and his mother in front of a train at Frankfurt’s main station, killing the boy, had been receiving psychiatric treatment, police say. They ruled out any terrorist link and radicalisation.

Cantonal police said on Tuesday the man is a 40-year-old Eritrean who had arrived in Switzerland in 2006 and had then received a residence permit in 2011. They had been looking for him since Thursday, when he locked up his family and a female neighbour, whom he had threatened with a knife, and then fled.

His family, who had to be freed by the police, said they had never seen him like that.

Prosecutors in Frankfurt said the man had told investigators he had taken a train from Basel to Frankfurt a few days ago.

The man appears to have entered Germany legally, German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer said at a news conference.

German federal police chief Dieter Romann said the man was well integrated in Switzerland and was classified as “exemplary in the view of the asylum authorities”.>/b>

The German prosecutors said there were no indications that he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol and were still trying to determine his motive.

    Psychiatric assessment

On Monday morning the mother and then the boy were pushed onto the tracks as a high-speed ICE train was pulling into Frankfurt station, one of Germany’s busiest. The 40-year-old mother managed to escape by getting out of the train’s way, but the boy was run over by the train and suffered fatal injuries.

The suspect then apparently tried unsuccessfully to push a third victim, a 78-year-old woman, onto the track before fleeing the scene. She suffered a shoulder injury.

The man, whose name has not been released, was chased by passers-by, including an off-duty police officer, and arrested near the station.

He will be brought before a judge on Tuesday to determine whether he can be kept in custody pending possible charges of murder and attempted murder, said Nadja Niesen, a spokeswoman for prosecutors in Frankfurt.

She added – before the Zurich police said the man had been receiving psychiatric treatment – that the nature of the crime raises the possibility of mental illness and a psychiatric assessment would be conducted as part of the investigation.

Niesen said investigators were looking at all possibilities but that there was no indication of any connection to an incident last week in which an Eritrean man was seriously injured in a drive-by shooting near Frankfurt that authorities believe was racially motivated.

    Eritreans in Switzerland

The Eritrean community in Switzerland said it was shocked by the news.

“It’s simply terrible that a child died,” said Yonas Gebrehiwet, spokesman for the Eritrean Media Association in Switzerland. He says the community is now worried about reprisals.

“We’re scared that what happened will be used against us. Something like this is used to spread fear and hatred. Oil will be thrown onto the fire,” he said.

Switzerland is home to more than 30,000 Eritreans, the largest diaspora outside Eritrea.

    • Man accused of pushing boy under German train was wanted by Swiss police

BERLIN (Reuters) – A 40-year-old Eritrean man accused of killing an 8-year-old boy by pushing him under a train in Frankfurt on Monday was wanted by police in Switzerland, where he had been granted asylum, German police said on Tuesday.

In an incident that has horrified Germany, the man first pushed the boy’s mother, 40, onto the track, but she rolled away. He then pushed the boy under an oncoming train before trying to push a 78-year-old woman, who fell over on the platform, federal police chief Dieter Romann said.

The same man brandished a knife at a female neighbour in Switzerland last Thursday and threatened to kill her, before fleeing, Romann said.

“As a result, Switzerland issued a national arrest warrant,” Romann told a news conference.

The man appears to have entered Germany legally, Interior Minister Horst Seehofer said at the same news conference.

The man was caught by police as he tried to flee Frankfurt station. Frankfurt prosecutors have applied for a formal warrant to arrest him one charge of murder and two counts of attempted murder – for the boy’s mother and the 78-year old woman, state prosecutor Nadja Niesen said.

If convicted he would face a life sentence.

“The nature of the crime would lead you to think of a psychological illness,” Niesen said, but she added that tests were still underway to establish whether that is the case.

“There is no indication that he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” she told reporters, adding that the suspect took a breath test immediately and it showed no abnormal results.

The man has three children. Romann said he arrived in Switzerland in 2006 and was granted asylum there in 2008. He was well integrated in Switzerland and classified as “exemplary in the view of the asylum authorities” there, Romann added.

Niesen said there was no reason to think the incident was linked to a case last week in Waechtersbach, near Frankfurt, when a German attacked an Eritrean and then killed himself.

Seehofer said Germany needed to increase its police numbers. The government would review security arrangements at stations across the country, including the possibility of more video surveillance, he said.

    • Deutsche Pravda – German prosecutors open murder investigation into Eritrean in Frankfurt

The Eritrean man suspected of pushing a mother and her child onto train tracks is being investigated on murder charges. Prosecutors said the man’s motives remain unclear.

German prosecutors have opened an investigation for murder and attempted murder against the 40-year-old Eritrean man suspected of pushing a mother and her 8-year-old son onto train tracksat Frankfurt’s main railway station on Monday.

The boy was killed by an oncoming train, while his mother managed to survive by rolling onto a narrow footpath between tracks.

At a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, federal police President Dieter Romann said the man also attempted to push another 78-year-old woman onto the tracks, and then fled. He was pursued by witnesses and a state policeman in civilian clothes, who then arrested him outside the station.

Read more: Opinion: Should German media report a suspect’s nationality?

The prosecutors’ office earlier confirmed to DW further details about the suspect: the man was married with three children, had been living in Switzerland since 2006, and was neither under the influence of alcohol or drugs during the attack. The suspect also did not know the victims.

At the press conference in Berlin, Romann added that the Eritrean, who he named only as A., had applied for asylum in Switzerland on arrival in 2006, which had been granted in 2008. Romann added that he had had a steady job, had been considered “well-integrated,” but had recently caught the attention of Swiss police through a series of violent incidents.

Five days ago, the man threatened a neighbor with a knife, and had subsequently been the subject of an arrest warrant. Romann suggested this may have been the reason why he had traveled to Germany.

      ‘Cold-blooded murder,’ but motives unknown

The suspect’s motives remain unclear. He has not yet spoken about the attack, and there is no evidence of a connection to the shooting last week of an Eritrean by a man with far-right sympathies in Wächtersbach, a small town about 34 miles (55 kilometers) east of Frankfurt.

News agency dpa reported that prosecutors were also planning a psychiatric test.

Swiss police confirmed via Twitter on Tuesday morning that the suspected perpetrator was a resident of Zurich and had a residency permit, before adding that they were in contact with German authorities. He is also believed to have traveled to Frankfurt from Basel, Switzerland a few days ago.

German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer interrupted his holiday to meet with representatives of the security forces and discuss a series of violent incidents in recent weeks, including the attacks in Frankfurt and Wächtersbach, attacks on members of the Left party, and bomb threats against mosques. Walter Lübcke, a local governor in the same region, was shot dead by a known neo-Nazi in early June.

“I am deeply shocked by this cold-blooded murder,” Seehofer said at Tuesday’s press conference about Monday’s incident, before adding that recent events had created a sense of an “erosion of values” in Germany. “Criminality is falling, but the feeling of safety is still very tense,” he said.

      Political reactions

People have been laying flowers and candles on the platform at Frankfurt railway station on Tuesday, and a public memorial service is planned at the spot in the evening.

The shock of the incident has spread throughout Germany, reigniting political debates about immigration and public safety.

“After this horrible crime there need to be fast and noticeable consequences for the perpetrator,” Philipp Amthor, interior policy spokesman for Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU), told dpa. “As well as criminal procedures, measures to end residency need to be discussed. On top of that I am open to a discussion about better security provisions at our railway stations.”

Martin Burkert, transport spokesman for the center-left Social Democratic Party (SPD), told the Bild newspaper on Tuesday that there was a lack of police officers at major railway stations.

Seehofer chimed in on that point. “As I’ve been saying since I came to office, we urgently need more police presence,” the minister said, before adding that increased video surveillance would also be discussed.

Meanwhile, Alice Weidel, leader of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD), had tweeted four times about the incident by Tuesday afternoon, blaming the 8-year-old’s death on the “borderless welcome culture” throughout Europe.

For his part, Seehofer pointed out that immigration into Germany was falling, before adding that “immigration must be controlled and limited, but those who need protection, that is the moment of humanity, they must be given protection, and that’s what we do in Germany more than any other country in Europe.”

    • Germany: ‘Simply unbelievable’ – Frankfurt commuters react to boy killing

Commuters at Frankfurt Central Station shared their feelings about the killing of an 8-year-old boy on Tuesday. Footage shows people laying flowers and candles near the platform.

“That is inconceivable, I absolutely can’t believe that something like that happened here. That really hurts, that something like that happened”, said one of the passengers.

The child was killed after a man pushed him and his mother in front of a train on Monday. The mother was able to escape, but the boy suffered fatal injuries.

“I am very, very sad. I feel terribly sorry for the parents, for all of us. For all of us. We are parents ourselves. It could happen to my daughter just as well or to someone else”, said another commuter.

A forty-year old Swiss-resident from Eritrea was arrested over the attack, after being chased and stopped by passers-by who witnessed the incident.

Democrats, as we have been told repeatedly, are the party of tolerance and love. For an idea of just how tolerant and loving Dems can be, Google the keywords Antifa attack.

Or read on. But first the back story. Last week Sen. Rand Paul delivered what might be called a “genteel” version of Donald Trump’s “go back” remark to Rep. Ilhan Omar. He said:

She has the honor of actually winning a seat in Congress and she says we’re a terrible country?. I think that’s about as ungrateful as you can get.

While I’m not saying we forcibly send her anywhere, I’m willing to contribute to buy her a ticket to go visit Somalia. I think she can look and maybe learn a little bit about the disaster that is Somalia, that has no capitalism, has no God-given rights guaranteed in the Constitution, and has about seven different tribes that have been fighting each other for the last 40 years.

Trending: Nadler then vs. now: Perjury and obstruction of justice are not impeachable offenses

And then maybe after she visited Somalia for a while, she might come back and appreciate America more.

Al Sharpton has been in the public limelight for just over 30 years – ever since he first burst upon the scene by promoting the fake story of a white-on-black gang rape in upstate New York in 1987. But not until now has America had a president with enough courage to tell the nation exactly what Sharpton is: “Al is a con man, a troublemaker, always looking for a score,” said Donald Trump on Monday. In response, Sharpton did the only thing he’s ever really learned how to do: He accused the president of harboring “a particular venom for blacks and people of color.” What a surprise. “Trump says I’m a troublemaker & con man,” Sharpton added. “I do make trouble for bigots.”

Let’s take a brief look at some of the career highlights of this self-anointed “troublemaker for bigots” shall we?

  22. Baltimore Cops Say City in Crisis After 6 Murders Occur Since Friday

I presume that this is now racist, since apparently any criticism of Baltimore is racist. But facts are facts.

“6 murders in Baltimore since Friday, 38 for July, 196 for 2019 22% higher than 2018 6 shootings since Friday, 80 for July, 437 for 2019 30% higher than 2018 #cityincrisis,” Baltimore’s Fraternal Order of Police tweeted.

Two booklets published by the David Horowitz Freedom Center prove the truth of President Donald Trump’s recent tweets characterizing the city of Baltimore as “a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess” and its U.S. Congressman Elijah Cummings as “a brutal bully.”

In The New Shame of the Cities, DiscovertheNetworks.org editor John Perazzo exposes the truth about Baltimore—that it is a city overrun by crime, lacking in essential services, and swiftly losing population under its Democratic leadership.

“Today Baltimore’s population has declined to 622,000,” Perazzo writes. “As a result of Baltimore’s multiple social, economic, and educational problems, some 47,000 abandoned houses and 16,000 vacant buildings now stand like pulled teeth in Baltimore’s once vibrant but now depleted and depressed neighborhoods.”

This dismal outcome for a once thriving city rests squarely on the irresponsible and corrupt leadership of a string of Democratic mayors, persisting into the present day, who have made the city a hotbed of crime, cronyism, high taxes and fleeing citizens.

If the city of Baltimore is poorly run, its public school system is even worse. In Shame of the Schools: How the Democrats Have Destroyed Public Education in the Inner Cities, Perazzo turns his impeccable research skills to the despondent quality of Baltimore’s public education system. He notes that Baltimore’s rates of student proficiency in key subjects are among the lowest in the nation; in 2015 “only 11% of Baltimore’s fourth-graders and 13% of its eighth-graders were able to read with proficiency…In math, the proficiency rate for Baltimore’s fourth- and eighth-graders alike was 12%.” And it’s not an issue of money. Perazzo reveals that Baltimore’s public school system “currently spends, on average, about $16,000 per year in taxpayer funds on each K-12 student in its jurisdiction” which is 34% higher than the national average.

  24. Eritrean Migrant Held on Murder Charge Over Railway Death of Child Has ‘Psychiatric Problems’ (breitbart, Jul 30, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/07/30/eritrean-migrant-held-on-murder-charge-over-railway-death-of-child-has-psychiatric-problems/

“An Eritrean man suspected of fatally pushing an 8-year-old boy in front of a train at Frankfurt’s main station had undergone psychiatric treatment recently and was being sought by Swiss police after threatening a neighbor, authorities said Tuesday.

The 40-year-old, who has lived in Switzerland for over a decade and has three small children, hasn’t yet given any explanation for a possible motive for the killing that has horrified Germany, said Nadja Niesen, a spokeswoman for prosecutors in Frankfurt.

The boy’s mother and then the 8-year-old were pushed onto the tracks as a high-speed ICE train was pulling into the Frankfurt station, one of Germany’s busiest, on Monday morning. The 40-year-old mother managed to get out of the train’s path but the boy was run over and killed.

The suspect then apparently tried unsuccessfully to push a third person, a 78-year-old woman, onto the track before fleeing. She fell and suffered a shoulder injury.

The man, whose name has not been released, was chased by passers-by, including an off-duty police officer, and arrested near the station.

A judge ordered him held in custody pending possible charges of murder and attempted murder.

Niesen said the nature of the crime raises the possibility of mental illness and a psychiatric assessment will be conducted. Swiss authorities later told reporters the man had undergone psychiatric treatment this year.

The suspect, who lived in the Zurich region, told German investigators that he took a train from the Swiss city of Basel to Frankfurt a few days ago.

He arrived in Switzerland in 2006 and applied for asylum, which he obtained in 2008, said Dieter Romann, the head of Germany’s federal police. He had a long-term residence permit in Switzerland and worked there, and was considered well-integrated.

However, on July 25, he is alleged to have threatened a woman who lived next door with a knife and locked her in her apartment before fleeing, Romann said. Swiss authorities were seeking him, but he was not in German or other European databases, he added.

Zurich regional police chief Werner Schmid said officers called to the scene last week also found the man’s wife and three small children locked inside their apartment. He told reporters in Zurich “the outbreak of violence was a surprise to his wife and to his neighbor.”

Politicians from the far-right Alternative for Germany party seized on the case to assail the German government’s immigration policies. Alternative for Germany has long attacked Chancellor Angela Merkel’s welcoming approach to an influx of refugees and other migrants in 2015.

Interior Minister Horst Seehofer said “we neither exploit nor play down crime by foreigners.”

Seehofer, speaking after he interrupted his vacation to meet with German security chiefs, said his ministry, the transport ministry and the German railway will discuss what can be done to improve security at German train stations.”

“An internal ethics report has alleged mismanagement and abuses of authority at the highest levels of the special U.N. agency for Palestinian “refugees” one year after the Trump administration suspended a $125 million contribution to its work.

The allegations included in the confidential report by the agency’s ethics department are now being scrutinised by U.N. investigators.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) said it is cooperating fully with the investigation and that it cannot comment in detail because the probe is ongoing, AFP reports.

AFP has seen the report which describes “credible and corroborated” allegations of serious ethical abuses, including involving UNRWA’s top official, Commissioner-General Pierre Krahenbuhl.

It alleges senior management have been engaging in “sexual misconduct, nepotism, retaliation, discrimination and other abuses of authority, for personal gain, to suppress legitimate dissent, and to otherwise achieve their personal objectives.”

    Michael Ledeen

I don’t think former Special Counsel Robert Mueller is senile. If he were, the Democrats would have canceled his testimony. I think, indeed we all know, that he has a long history of mismanagement and incompetence, as well as seemingly illegal actions as head of the FBI. His testimony to the House Intelligence and Judiciary Committees was just more of the same.

The best account of Mueller’s many misdeeds was written a few months ago by Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert, and covers years of botched investigations, criminal prosecutions, false accusations and internal political skullduggery. The best-known case is that of the late Senator Ted Stevens, falsely accused of underpaying for improvements to his cabin in Alaska. Mueller’s FBI won the court case just eight days before Stevens lost his bid for reelection in 2008.

It subsequently emerged that Stevens was innocent, that an FBI whistleblower had provided proof of his innocence, that the whistleblower had been driven out of the Bureau, and that the FBI agent who had masterminded the case against Stevens was rewarded. Stevens’ conviction was overturned, and the FBI was publicly excoriated by Judge Emmett Sullivan, currently, as luck would have it, in charge of the case against General Michael T. Flynn, which in many ways resembles the operation against Senator Stevens.

  28. Guy Who Helped Hillary Lose Has Plan to Beat Trump

    Daniel Greenfield

In a week full of terrible media headlines, this baffling entry still takes the cake. And the ice cream and a bunch of candy bars.

“I Played Trump in Hillary Clinton’s 2016 Debate Prep. Here’s What It Takes to Beat Him” – Politico

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t recall Hillary Clinton beating Trump.

The piece comes from Philippe Reines, one of those Clintonworlders who infuriated everyone outside the Hillarysphere and no longer has any kind of real place now that the S.S. Clinton is drifting to the bottom of the Hudson River to be later recovered by divers and archeologists looking for the lost treasure of the Clinton Foundation.

At this point, Reines’ claim to fame is that he played Trump in debate prep. And he has little to offer except the same old shameless flattery.

  29. Tyranny in the UK: Concept Creep and the Policing of Words
When “offensive” speech becomes a criminal matter.
    July 30, 2019
    John Glynn

According to Reporters Without Borders (RSF), an international non-profit, non-governmental organization based in Paris, when it comes to press freedom, the UK remains one of the “worst-performing countries” in Western Europe.

Why? A number of worrying trends are at play, including a heavy-handed approach towards the press – often in the name of national security – and a climate of hostility towards the media. This hostility is not just directed towards the media, however; it’s also directed towards the general public.

Ostensibly, the UK is a bastion of liberality. However, on closer look, you find a society dominated by PC culture. As writer Brendan O’Neill asks, “which country’s police force just called on its citizens to report offensive speech? Not libelous speech or death-threat speech, just plain old insulting speech. Speech that is merely hurtful or hateful. Which nation’s cops instructed the citizenry to snitch on haters? North Korea? China? Maybe Turkey?”

No, rather shockingly, it was the United Kingdom, where offensive speech has become a police matter. One would expect this in the likes of Russia, where, in 2017, law enforcement opened 411 criminal cases against internet users in Russia. That same year, in the UK, in an effort to combat social media hate speech, police arrested nine people a day (yes, a day). That’s 63 people each week; 252 people a month; 3024 people in a year.

These people were arrested for posting allegedly offensive messages online. I stress the word allegedly, because some of these “crimes” border on the ridiculous.

  30. Cyprus: UK woman suspected of false gang rape accusations remanded in custody

A British woman accused of filing false gang-rape allegations against 12 Israeli teenagers was remanded in custody for eight days, after she had her first court hearing at the Famagusta District Court in Paralimni in southeast Cyprus on Tuesday.

”The case was due today for the purpose of the defendant pleading to the charges, we have requested a brief adjournment so that we can collect all the evidence,” lawyer Andreas Pittadjis told press.

“On the 7th of August she will plead to the charges most likely so it’s up to her,” added the lawyer.

The 19-year-old woman had initially claimed that she was gang-raped by 12 teenage boys at the hotel where she was staying in the resort of Ayia Napa on July 17. Following the claims, all 12 had initially been detained, but then released last week, after the she changed her testimony.

    • DAILY MAIL – British woman, 19, is victim of ‘revenge porn’ after Israeli teens shared explicit ‘gang bang’ video says her lawyer as she appears in court charged with public mischief

British 19-year-old appeared in Cyprus court today where she was remanded in custody for eight days while police investigate her for ‘public mischief’

She is facing up to a year in jail after allegedly filing a false report of gang-rape

Police charges after footage showed her ‘not yelling for help’, it was claimed

She claimed 12 Israeli teens attacked her for an hour, but later changed her story to say she consented to sex with three of them but objected to them filming her

Her lawyer says she is still the victim after the video was circulated online

[…]The 19-year-old British woman told police she was gang-raped by the 12 men in Cyprus before changing her story to say she was upset when three of them filmed her during consensual sex.

She later insisted she is the victim after video of the sexual encounter was circulated online.

[…]Yisrael David told reporters as he landed back in Israel that she had agreed to sex with him and several others after a night of wild partying in Ayia Napa.

[…]A video was made of the alleged attack in which the woman was said to have been filmed smiling while having sex with one of the men – in footage that has since been widely circulated.

Her lawyer Andreas Pittadjis said spreading the video was a bigger offence than the charge the British teenager is facing.

But Yisrael, one of those accused of gang-rape, said she had agreed to group sex and the videos shown to police in Cyprus had proved their innocence.

‘In none of them [the clips] does she look like she’s suffering or shouting for help,’ he said in an interview with Israel’s Channel 12.

‘We went up to her room, 723, and we were with her there in the room. You saw the videos. We were three in the room and there were more people outside who wanted to come in, who came in, and went out.

‘They didn’t actually do anything but they did see and were part of everything that went on there.’

[…]Andreas Pittadjis, the lawyer who is representing the teenager, demanded to know who had leaked the video as she appeared in court Tuesday charged with public nuisance, for which she now faces a year in jail.

Speaking outside court, he said: ‘The offence my client is accused of is not considered to be one of the most serious offences in our criminal system.

‘The fact that the video of my client appears to have gone around the world is a much more serious offence.

‘I want to know who leaked this video and why?

‘This sort of crime is punishable by more than a year in prison. Someone should investigate – both here and in Israel.’

Despite Yisrael’s conviction, he thought it would be a long battle of ‘our word against hers’ and was astounded when the case turned around so quickly.

Yisrael and the other teens were lambasted by many Israelis for publicly celebrating when they were freed and when they returned home.

He rejected the criticism, saying: ‘I know it isn’t any big source of pride, I didn’t win a Nobel prize or something that should be celebrated, but the fact is that we got out of that situation that took away our freedom, we are free people now and this is something that should be celebrated.’

He said that he saw things during his holiday that were reminiscent of Sodom and Gomorrah, and admitted that he learned from the incident.

Though he believes that the woman didn’t object to being filmed, he now thinks that they shouldn’t have videoed her.

‘It wasn’t right to take those films, the woman’s respect should be guarded no matter what, with whom, where she is from, what race, and what kind of sex. The woman must be respected and that is something that with God’s help we will get better at,’ he added.

According to Israeli sources, the video has been shared via WhatsApp and on pornographic sites.

One told MailOnline: ‘During the video one of the men says ”you’re my whore, say you’re my whore”.

‘She asks what they are saying and one of them replies in English ”we are saying you’re sexy”.

[…]Lawyers for at least three of the ex-accused now say their clients want to sue the British woman for damages.

Yaniv Habari, Nir Yaslovitzh and Yona Golub all told The Sun that they will be suing for anguish, libel, loss of earnings and suffering caused.

A source close to the men added: ‘There are twelve cases to be heard and this will be a very expensive case for her.

  31. EXCLUSIVE VIDEOS FROM HONG KONG: Protests Continue as Demonstrators Clash with Police

In early July we provided exclusive videos from Hong Kong showing protesters after they broke inside the government’s Legislative Council (LegCo) Building in the heart of the city. The protests in Hong Kong continue.

In early July protesters in Hong Kong stormed the main government building in the heart of Hong Kong. The annual protest which occurs on the anniversary of the day that the UK turned over Hong Kong to China was perhaps its most violent to date.

Over the past few weeks huge numbers of protestors have gathered in Hong Kong to take a stand against another change in Hong Kong law moving the tiny country further under Mainland China’s grip.

Thousands protested this year as in the past with perhaps even more participation after Hong Kong politicians announced changes to the law that would allow the country to extradite suspected criminals to China. The concern is that it would allow Beijing to arrest protesters and deport them to China.

  32. Where did the $16 Billion in US Grants Given to Baltimore in 2018 Disappear to?

The city of Baltimore received $16 billion in grants in 2018! The city is a dump. Where did the money go? Does Representative Cummings know?

Great thread here covering the Baltimore mess the Democrats are facing –

OK I misheard. It wasn’t $18 billion over 2 1/2 years…the HUD Director said it was $16 billion **IN 2018 ALONE!

The fed. gov’t pumped SIXTEEN BILLION DOLLARS into Cumming’s district in 2018.

    WHERE DID THE MONEY GO?!

  33. U.S. Deal with China Saves Huawei, Threatens America

American and Chinese trade negotiators, meeting Tuesday and Wednesday in Shanghai, are cooking up an interim deal that is deeply injurious to U.S. national security.

There is growing pessimism that Washington and Beijing can reach a comprehensive agreement, given the fundamental differences over, among other things, industrial policy, intellectual property protection, and restrictions on foreign investment.

The Wall Street Journal reports, however, that a “small agreement” is in the works. The Commerce Department, according to the paper, would grant exemptions from its Entity List to Huawei Technologies. This would allow American companies to license tech and sell products such as chips to the embattled telecom-equipment manufacturer, and China would buy more American agricultural products.

There is just one problem: this is the worst possible time in what is called the “cold tech war” to give relief to Huawei. Huawei is vulnerable to American measures for only a short period, so this is the time for the Trump administration to exert leverage.
