Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  2. Iran Urges US, Allies to Stop False Flag Ops in Mideast After Gulf of Oman Tanker Sabotage (sputniknews, Jun 14, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/201906141075859308-iran-urges-us-allies-stop-false-flag-ops/

“The warning comes on the heels of US accusations that Iran was behind the attacks on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman on 13 June – just one month after a similar incident near Fujairah was likewise blamed on the Islamic Republic.

The Iranian mission to the United Nations has urged the United States and its allies in the Middle East to “stop warmongering” and false flag operations in the region following attacks on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman on 13 June that were blamed on Tehran.

“Neither fabrications and disinformation campaigns nor shamelessly blaming others can change the realities. The US and its regional allies must stop warmongering and put an end to mischievous plots as well as false flag operations in the region. Warning, once again, about all of the US coercion, intimidation, and malign behavior, Iran expresses concern over suspicious incidents for the oil tankers that occurred today”, the statement issued on Thursday read.

The mission has also “categorically” rejected Washington’s accusations of Tehran being responsible for the oil tanker incidents as unfounded.

“The inflammatory remarks by the US representative against Iran at the UN Security Council on 13 June 2019 was another Iranophobic campaign”, it added.

In a separate development, the country’s foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif took to Twitter to stress that the US accusations were part of “sabotage diplomacy” to cover up what he has repeatedly described as “economic terrorism” against Iran:

These remarks follow US Central Command’s deployment of the US Navy destroyer USS Mason to the Gulf of Oman “to provide assistance” shortly after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo pointed the finger at Tehran while referring to an assessment based on intelligence, weapons used, and level of expertise required to carry out the operation.

“USS Mason is en route to the scene to provide assistance. The US and our partners in the region will take all necessary measures to defend ourselves and our interests. Today’s attacks are a clear threat to international freedom of navigation and freedom of commerce”, CENTCOM spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Earl Brow said in a Thursday press release.

    What Happened?

On 13 June, two oil tankers – Kokuka Courageous, registered in Panama, and Marshall Islands-flagged Front Altair, owned by Norway’s Frontline – were attacked in the Gulf of Oman near the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway linking Middle East crude producers to key world markets.

Multiple media reports have suggested that the vessels were exposed to torpedoes, which caused blasts and a blaze on at least one of them. According to IRNA, Iranian rescue teams evacuated 44 sailors from both ships and took them to the Iranian port of Jask, while US officials were cited by CBS as dismissing those claims as “patently false”.

The incident comes one month after four oil tankers – two Saudi, one Norwegian, and one Emirati – were tageted in what Abu Dhabi described as “acts of sabotage” near Fujairah.

The incident did not cause any casualties or oil spill. Shortly thereafter, several unnamed US officials were cited by AP as saying that “Iranian or Iranian-backed proxies” are believed to be responsible for the incident.

Tehran, for its part, urged for an investigation and cautioned against “any conspiracy orchestrated by ill-wishers” and “adventurism by foreigners” to undermine the region’s stability.

Tensions have been simmering in the Gulf region since the US withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal in May 2018, but dramatically escalated last month after the Pentagon deployed an aircraft carrier strike group and a bomber task force to send a “clear and unmistakable” message to Iran that any attack on American interests or those of its allies would be met with “unrelenting force”.”

  3. UK Royal Marines Reportedly Deployed to Gulf in Wake of Tanker Attacks Blamed on Iran (sputniknews, Jun 15, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/201906151075884631-uk-royal-marines-deployed-gulf-tanker-attacks-blamed-iran/

“The reported development comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East as the United States and its regional allies have accused Iran of orchestrating an attack on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman earlier this week. Tehran has strongly rejected the allegations as unfounded.

The Royal Marines are being deployed to the Gulf of Oman following an incident, in which two oil tankers were targeted near the Strait of Hormuz on 13 June, causing explosions and a fire on at least one of them, the Daily Star reported, citing unnamed sources.

The troops will purportedly be tasked with keeping British vessels safe, using equipment to search the open sea for “fast Iranian attack craft” and “terminate” them if deemed necessary.

“We have had marines in the region on anti-piracy and counter-terrorist operations for some time. If the current situation escalates I expect we will see more personnel deployed to bolster the operation”, the source was quoted as saying.

According to the UK tabloid, the marines will be equipped with sniper rifles and light machine guns, but they have been instructed to use them only as a last resort.

An estimated 120 specialist troops from 42 Commando, a subordinate unit within the Royal Marines 3 Commando Brigade, are heading Bahrain as part of what has been dubbed Special Purpose Task Group 19, the Daily Star claimed.

The Defence Ministry has not commented on the reports so far…”

  4. ‘Not Enough’: US Version Blaming Iran for Tanker Attacks Questioned by European Allies (sputniknews, Jun 15, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/201906151075883450-us-iran-tanker-attacks-questioned-european-allies/

“The Pentagon earlier released a video, claiming to show an Iranian patrol boat removing a mine from the side one of the tankers targeted in the Gulf of Oman as “proof” of the US accusations that Tehran is behind the attacks. The Islamic Republic has strongly denied its involvement and urged Washington to stop false flag ops in the region.

Some European governments have refused to back the US allegations that Iran was responsible for the attacks on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman on 13 June.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas has, for instance, insisted that the footage made public by the US Central Command allegedly showing Iranian sailors removing an unexploded mine from one of the vessels’ hull was insufficient to corrobotate Washington’s claims.

“The video is not enough. We can understand what is being shown, sure, but to make a final assessment, this is not enough for me”, Maas told reporters on Friday.

His point of view was stongly supported by Nathalie Tocci, a senior adviser to EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, who has likewise stressed that before blaming someone, “we need credible evidence”.

The United States’ second ally, France, was reluctant to take sides: it did condemn the attack, but refrained from saying whether it had looked into the US intelligence, any other evidence, or assessed CENTCOM’s video…”

  5. Iran Attempted to Down US Drone Hours Before Gulf of Oman Incident, Media Claims (sputniknews, Jun 15, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/201906151075882538-iran-down-drone-gulf-oman-reports/

“The Iranian forces have perpetrated a failed missile attack on a US drone hours before the tankers incident in the Gulf of Oman, US media reported, citing a source.

The CNN reported on Friday, citing a US official, that the US MQ-9 Reaper reconnaissance drone observed Iranian vessels close to the affected tankers prior to the incident that happened on Thursday.

The Iranian forces reportedly detected the drone and fired a surface-to-air missile at it. The missile, however, missed the vehicle and fell into the water.

The same source told CNN that two days prior to the Thursday’s incident, another US drone had been downed in the Red Sea by an alleged Iranian missile fired by the Yemeni Houthi rebel movement…”

  6. UK: Knife Crime at Nine-Year High, Fatal Stabbings Highest Level on Record (breitbart, Jun 15, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/06/15/knife-crime-nine-year-high-fatal-stabbings-highest-level-record/

“Knife crime has risen to a nine-year high with the number of fatal stabbings in England and Wales at its highest level since records began in 1946.

According to the Ministry of Justice, more than 22,000 cases of people possessing or making threats with a knife came before the courts in the 12 months to March this year, which represents an increase of one-third in just five years.

In just the first three months of this year, 5,759 instances were dealt with by the justice system, the highest level over a three month period in a decade, reports The Times.

Around three-quarters of those dealt with by the justice system in the first three months of this year were first-time offenders. The number of under 18s convicted or cautioned has risen by 48 per cent since 2015; but despite this, the number of young people given custodial sentences for knife-related crimes has plummeted by 17 per cent in just one year. Meanwhile, the number of adults given custodial sentences rose by six per cent over the same period.

Almost two-thirds of cases did not result in a prison sentence. Of those that did, the average sentence was just 7.9 months…”

  7. Italian Police Praise New Salvini Security Decree (breitbart, Jun 15, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/06/15/italian-police-praise-new-salvini-security-decree/

“Italian police have praised the new migration and security decree drafted by populist interior minister Matteo Salvini, saying that the measures will work to better protect Italian policemen on the street.

National secretary of the FSP state police Valter Mazzetti commented on the new measures saying, “We welcome the decree,” adding that the proposals were a path towards reversing “the tendency to always be ‘against’ the cops”, Italian newspaper Il Giornale reports.

The new security decree has many elements to restrict the operations of migrant transport NGOs, but also contains several measures aimed at protecting police including introducing more severe penalties for those who attack officers during demonstrations or other events such as concerts and sporting events.

Any individual caught launching various weapons such as rockets, flares, fireworks, firecrackers, and other items including clubs and sticks will also face one to four years in prison.

Mazzatti added that police officers across the country were often victims of violence saying: “Every year costs us hundreds of injured officers, because uniforms are targets of gratuitous aggression, only for what they represent, only because they do their duty.”

“The incredible misunderstanding is too widespread that those who dress in the uniform are required to take blows, insults, and offences of every kind, and are obliged to,” he added.

The new migration and security decree was given the green light by the Italian Council of Ministers earlier this week and comes after Salvini and his League party won a historic election victory during the European Parliament elections last month.

Following the election result, Salvini announced that he would be pursuing a more hardline domestic agenda and would push for policies that had been previously ejected by the Five Star Movement, his coalition partner.

Salvini’s change in course has led to instability within the partnership with some predicting that the life of the coalition could be limited as some have claimed Italian President Sergio Mattarella could dissolve the parliament as soon as July.”

  8. Sweden Increases Security at Malmö Police Stations After Explosions Across City (breitbart, Jun 15, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/06/15/malmo-police-stations-see-increased-security-series-explosions/

“Police in Malmö have announced increased security measures around local police stations following a series of explosions in the Swedish city.

Filip Annas, press officer for Police Region South, announced the measures, saying that there would be an increase in the number of officers patrolling outside of police stations in the city, Swedish broadcaster SVT reports.

“The local police management made the assessment to strengthen the security at the police stations. Specifically, this means that more police officers will appear outside the city’s police stations,” Annas said, but would not divulge any details on how many police stations would see an increase in security and what areas of the city they were located.

“There is no set schedule, but this will apply until further notice. However, the public will not be affected by this, and they will only see more police officers in place,” Annas added.

The tightening of security comes just days after the city saw three explosions, two of which targetted residential areas in the notorious Rosengård no-go suburb and a nightclub closer to the centre of the city, all within 24 hours…”

  9. The Latest: Arab League chief tells Iranians to ‘be careful’ (abcnews, Jun 15, 2019)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/latest-arab-league-chief-tells-iranians-careful-63731137

“The head of the Arab League is calling on the Iranians to “be careful and reverse course.”

Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit noted after meeting with U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at U.N. headquarters in New York on Friday that there are conflicting reports about how Thursday’s tanker incidents occurred.

“We believe that responsibilities need to be clearly defined,” he said. “The facts will be revealed, I am sure, it’s only a matter of time.”

The U.S. says the Iranians are responsible for the attacks near the strategic Strait of Hormuz. The Iranians say they were not involved.

Aboul Gheit said: “My call to my Iranian — and I call them Iranian brothers: Be careful and reverse course because you’re pushing everybody towards a confrontation that no one would be safe if it happens.””

  10. UN: Bosnia moves migrants to area infested with land mines (abcnews, Jun 15, 2019)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/bosnian-police-find-130-migrants-private-house-63714614

“The U.N. office in Bosnia said Friday that authorities in the country have transferred 282 migrants who were squatting illegally in the northwestern town of Bihac to a tent camp near an area infested with land mines left over from a 1990s war.

U.N. officials said in statement that the Vucjak camp is “unsuitable for human habitation.” In addition to land mines, the camp sits on top a former landfill.

Bosnian police found the migrants Friday staying illegally in two privately-owned houses and moved them to the tent camp. Three migrants were arrested for resisting police who raided the houses, finding 180 migrants in one and another 102 in the other. Four policemen were injured during the raid.

Authorities said they transferred the migrants to a tent camp in the area where they will be provided with food, basic facilities and medical care.

But the U.N. said in its statement that the Vucjak camp “poses very significant health and safety risks and is currently not equipped to accommodate migrants and refugees in accordance with international standards.”

“The site is located very close to land mine infested areas” from the 1992-95 war, the statement said. “There is also a high fire and explosion hazard due to the possible presence of methane gas underground, as the site was a former landfill.”

The U.N. urged the Bosnian authorities to allow the migrants to return to Bihac until a more suitable location is found…”

      • Don’t worry guys the shooting portion of the civil war is sprinting towards us.

By any measure, America’s Civil War II (ACWII™) was initiated by 0bama against the middle class and began a soft-start in 2016. In this respect a preliminary, anti-civilian phase of ACWII certainly began in earnest preceding, during, and (now) after Trump’s victory.

It’s much like the so-called Arab–Israeli crisis. That entire, slow motion, neo-Holocaust is purposefully carried out at just a low enough intensity to where outside military intervention cannot be justified but lots of Jews (or Whites or Christians in ACWII) DIE in the process.

Fast forward to now when content creators, citizen journalists, and even slightly dissenting voices (much less vociferously objecting ones) are depersoned deplatformed at will, even when it poses immediate destitution—the speedier the better, it now seems. This is no less a genocide of Conservatives than it has been one endless hysterical (in every sense of the word), almighty tantrum of a Left whose collectively prussic countenance shades into ultra violet.

THE COP21 AGREEMENT – JUST THE FACTS, PLEASE Many of the demands of groups like Ecojustice include a focus on “decarbonization’ and renewable energy, and a demand that Canada meet Paris targets, even though the Paris agreement is not a legally binding document. Many of those ENGOs involved are part of the “Tar Sands Campaign,” an orchestrated effort to block the distribution of oil sands product through legislative action, as described in this document.

Asim Umar, a senior al Qaeda official, has released a lengthy statement praising the Taliban’s “victory” in Afghanistan. He claims that America’s “defeat” proves that its superior technology is no match for the jihadists’ faith, adding that America’s army no longer wants to fight. Umar concludes by asking Allah to “give the Islamic Emirate steadfastness” to “protect it from fitnah of ISIS” — meaning the strife within the global jihadist movement caused by Baghdadi’s men. Umar describes ISIS’s rise and its subsequent actions as the “most difficult and deadly fitnah for jihad and mujahidin during these forty years of Jihad.” The al Qaeda leader asks Allah to grant the jihadists victory in Afghanistan, Iraq and the Levant, and to “end this ISIS fitnah forever which has stabbed Jihad and Caliphate in the back.” And Umar hopes that the Taliban’s Islamic Emirate is victorious over not just America, but ISIS as well. 19. Trump team weighs options against Iran after tanker explosions but downplays war threat

President Trump and Iranian leaders traded accusations Friday over who was responsible for fiery explosions that crippled two oil tankers off Iran’s coast, but both sides appeared cautious not to go beyond a war of words, at least for now, to avoid a direct military confrontation.

After blaming Iran hours after what appeared to be coordinated attacks on a Japanese and a Norwegian tanker on Thursday, the Trump administration considered options Friday but showed no immediate sign of responding.

Options include providing armed escorts to vessels navigating vulnerable shipping lanes of the Strait of Hormuz, reflagging tankers of friendly nations with the U.S. flag to entitle them to U.S. naval protection, and adding more sanctions to what is already a long blacklist.

Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan said the Pentagon was making plans for possible military action in case of more attacks or efforts to close the Strait of Hormuz, the strategic chokepoint through which much of the world’s oil passes.

Washington (CNN)In the hours before the attack on the two tankers in the Gulf of Oman on Thursday, the Iranians spotted a US drone flying overhead and launched a surface-to-air missile at the unmanned aircraft, a US official told CNN.
The missile missed the drone and fell into the water, the official said.
Prior to taking fire, the American MQ-9 Reaper drone observed Iranian vessels closing in on the tankers, the official added, though the source did not say whether the unmanned aircraft saw the boats conducting an actual attack.

  21. Hackers That Took Down Saudi Oil Site Probing U.S. Power Grid

(Bloomberg) — A group of hackers that shut down a Saudi Arabian oil and natural gas facility in 2017 is now targeting electric utilities, according to the cybersecurity company Dragos Inc.

The group, Xenotime, has been probing utilities in the U.S. and Asia-Pacific regions since late 2018, Hanover, Maryland-based Dragos said in a blog post Friday. They’ve focused mostly on electronic control systems that manage the operations at industrial sites, Dragos said.

U.S. officials have long warned grids are acutely vulnerable to cyber attacks. Disrupting a region’s electrical infrastructure could cause widespread chaos, triggering blackouts and crippling financial markets, transportation systems and more.

“While none of the electric utility targeting events has resulted in a known, successful intrusion into victim organizations to date, the persistent attempts, and expansion in scope is cause for definite concern,” Dragos said in its post.

The blog said the attackers appear to be probing for weaknesses in the U.S power systems — a step to be considered far less serious than an actual attack — and there is so far no evidence of “a known, successful intrusion.”

Xenotime gained notice after a 2017 malware attack on a Saudi Arabian petrochemical facility, Dragos said. The attackers targeted safety systems to cause “loss of life or physical damage,” according to the blog post.

  24. MoveOn Launches Nationwide ‘Impeach Donald Trump’ Rallies Saturday

Leftist activist organization MoveOn will hold nationwide “Impeach Trump” protests Saturday in partnership with many organizations including the Women’s March.

Congress Members Rashida Tlaib and Al Green joined in a June 18 planning call ahead of the events that are co-sponsored by We the People. The website aimed at impeaching President Donald Trump provides information on the call in a link titled, “People’s Impeachment Guide.”

    https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2019/06/14/moveon-launches-nationwide-impeach-donald-trump-rallies-saturday/

(Richard: This is just the beginning, as the primary season and then the election grow closer the radical left is going to be out in force protesting, harassing and attacking anyone who supports the President.

When Obama was elected the left thought they had gained the ability to turn the US full communist and that the people were going to be unable to stop them. When Obama left office and Hillary was anointed to be the next President they were sure that after Hillary all elections would be staged productions that would ensure that only Far Left Democrats could become President. Then Donald Trump came along and not only won the election he has been very busy dismantling the regulations that were prevent the People from doing anything to help the economy.

Now another election approaches and the Radical Far Left Dems are going to be out in force trying to make the US ungovernable, they think that if the chaos is bad enough people will either support impeachment to stop the violence or will vote for which ever Leftist the Dems nominate for President. (Right now it looks to be either Biden or Warren and both have a lot of baggage that will hurt them in the General Election.) The major problem the Dems have is that the openly radical left has seized control of their primaries so anyone who wants to win the nomination will have to take off their mask as moderates and show their true radical left faces. As the election of Donald Trump shows the voters in the US don’t want to live in a socialist or communist nation, they will vote to keep the radical left out of the White House and given the actions of the Dems in the House they will return control of Congress to the Repubs.

This is going to make the left so desperate that if they haven’t already started killing conservative politicians and pundits they will start then. They aren’t paying attention to Rolling Thunder and other conservatives groups and think they can win the civil war they are working so hard to start.

    • Leftist activist organization MoveOn will hold nationwide “Impeach Trump” protests Saturday in partnership with many organizations including the Women’s March.

Bring it on. This entire farce-of-an-impeachment process will not only be fruitless, but those Leftists who continue to harp on this shibboleth without producing any conclusive proof (other than guilt-by-consensus) are going to discredit an already flailing DNC. Much like how Nader assured Bush 2.0’s 2000 electoral victory, the Democrat 2020 anti-Trump bandwagon drips so much vitriol that it will corrode the wheels off their own axles before they ever land a body blow on Trump.

  25. Dems’ proposed law would effectively cut off gun ownership at the source
By Jeff Dunetz June 15, 2019

In a move that may mark the end of the Second Amendment because it will put gun manufacturers out of business, House Democrats are seeking to change the law to allow victims to sue gun companies after being injured in shootings.

To be able to sue companies because of how customers misuse their product is so entirely un-American, not to mention so materially unfair, that it boggles the mind.

    According to The Blaze:

The bill, titled, “The Equal Access to Justice for Victims of Gun Violence Act,” seeks to repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, a 2005 law that immunizes the firearm industry from civil liability in both state and federal courts.

“[The bill] will allow civil cases to go forward against irresponsible actors in state and federal courts, just as they would if they involved any other product. Letting courts hear these cases would provide victims of gun violence their day in court,” reads a press release about the bill.

    https://libertyunyielding.com/2019/06/15/dems-proposed-law-would-effectively-cut-off-gun-ownership-at-the-source/

    https://www.theblaze.com/news/democrats-gun-control-repeal-plcaa

(Richard: The bill will do much more then just drive gun manufactures out of business, once the precedent is set that the manufactures are responsible for the way their product us used all manufactures will be put at risk and driven out of business. To ensure that the “people” have cars trucks and all other manufactured goods the Government will have to step in and take over the entire manufacturing sector of the economy.

This approach to disarming the public and ushering in communism was tried in the 1970s and was shot down. I expect the idea to fail once again but will energize the gun rights people and a lot more people will turn out to vote against the party that is trying to disarm the public.

Many people may have missed the brief dust-up this week when the Wall Street Journal reported on information from an unnamed source that a half-brother of North Korea’s Kim Jong-Un, killed in an apparent assassination in February 2017, was a CIA informant.

The half-brother, Kim Jong-Nam, was killed when “two women smeared his face with the nerve agent VX” at the Kuala Lumpur airport in Malaysia.

The U.S. and South Korea attributed this murder to North Korea; the Kim regime denies it.

Here’s the only thing you need to remember about this “leak.” It may or may not be true, but that’s not even important. What’s important is that there was absolutely no U.S. national

Richard: This is happening at the time when tensions are high in the Gulf and the “New York Slimes” are questioning President Trumps credibility in the claims that Iran attacked the Tankers. Both actions show the depths of treason the Left is willing to go to in order to prevent President Trump from achieving and success in any foreign policy matter.

The left is pushing for a Foreign War in one or more locations while fomenting a civil war in the US. If they get very unlucky the will get their civil war.

  27. New York makes rent control more severe
By Hans Bader June 14, 2019

Leaders of New York’s legislature have decided to tighten rent control in New York City. They also will change the law to make it harder for landlords across the state to get rid of tenants who don’t pay their rent, or violate their leases, if those tenants can’t find similar housing in the “same neighborhood.”

Economists expect this legislation to reduce the construction of rental housing in coming years, making housing shortages worse. As Clifford Asness notes, “Rent control being harmful is one of the increasingly rare things most economists across the political spectrum agree on. So, when in 15 years the housing stock is in much worse shape because of this, we already know why.” Landlords were “shocked” by Tuesday’s deal, which was far more severe against landlords than they expected, reports the New York Times.

“We thought the governor would help moderate some of the more ridiculous proposals,” said Jay Martin, the executive director of the Community Housing Improvement Program, a trade association representing about 4,000 building owners. “That did not happen.” “It seems to be that the democratic socialist wing of the Democratic Party is in full control of the state government,” Mr. Martin added. “I think this is the official declaration of that.”

  34. Alex Jones offers $1M reward as FBI investigates child pornography planted on his Infowars server

The FBI has informed Alex Jones someone planted child pornography on the servers for his Infowars website and on Friday the controversial radio host offered a $1 million reward for any information leading to an arrest.

Federal authorities have been conducting a child pornography investigation for several weeks after they reviewed emailed threats made against Jones that contained links to child pornography websites, according to his attorney Norm Pattis.

Pattis appeared on Jones’ show late Friday afternoon to discuss the incident. But before he did Jones went on a five-minute, profanity-laced rant announcing the reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of whoever infiltrated the his company’s servers.

“Someone is trying to set me up with child pornography and we’re going to find you,” Jones said.

Pattis said he was notified a few weeks ago by the company that is reviewing all of the emails Infowars receives that there were 12 suspicious ones that appeared to be threats against Jones but actually contained child pornography.

“These were emails that if you, me or one of your workers had opened we would have been subjected to five years in federal prison,” Pattis said.

Jones is being sued by several victims of the Sandy Hook school massacre. They are alleging he and his company have profited from spreading the story that the shooting was a hoax. He hired Pattis to represent him in Connecticut after Superior Court Judge Barbara Bellis grew frustrated Jones and Infowars weren’t complying with simple discovery requests and threatened to sanction Jones.

The plaintiffs include the parents of four children killed at the Newtown school: Jacqueline and Mark Barden, parents of Daniel; Nicole and Ian Hockley, parents of Dylan; Francine and David Wheeler, parents of Ben; and Jennifer Hensel and Jeremy Richman, parents of Avielle Richman. Other plaintiffs are relatives of slain first-grade teacher Victoria Leigh Soto; Erica Lafferty-Garbatini, daughter of slain Principal Dawn Hochsprung; and William Aldenberg, a longtime FBI agent and a first responder.

The lawsuit accuses Jones of orchestrating a sustained attack that lasted for years, accusing family members of being actors, stating as fact that the shooting was a hoax and inciting others to act on those claims all because it was good for his ratings, drew advertisers and made him money.

Lawyers from the firm of Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder, who are representing Sandy Hook families, are seeking emails and tips Jones received following the shooting.

They have constantly complained Jones and his company haven’t shared all of their records. Specifically they are seeking data relating to Infowars’ marketing, sales and web activities.

Pattis said there are more than 9.3 million emails that need to be culled in the search for specific ones that name Sandy Hook victims or their families and the gunman, Adam Lanza, among others.

That case is one of several occurring simultaneously involving the Sandy Hook families and Jones and his company. The other lawsuits were filed in Texas, where Jones’ Infowars show is based. Neil Heslin, the father of slain student Jesse Lewis, and Scarlettt Lewis, Jesse’s mother, along with Leonard Pozner and Veronique De La Rosa, whose son, Noah Pozner, died in the massacre, filed separate lawsuits in Travis County, Texas.

In a deposition recorded March 14 for one of the Texas lawsuits against Jones, he blames part of his conspiracy theory background on his “psychosis.”

“I, myself, have almost had like a form of psychosis back in the past where I basically thought everything was staged, even though I’m now learning a lot of times things aren’t staged,” Jones said. “So I think as a pundit, someone giving an opinion, that, you know, my opinions have been wrong; but they were never wrong consciously to hurt people.”

But Jones stops short of acknowledging that he no longer believes the shooting was a hoax.

  37. Why Didn’t Mueller Investigate Seth Rich?

The idea that the DNC email disclosures were produced by a hack — not a leak —makes less and less sense, writes Daniel Lazare.

After bungling every last aspect of Russia-gate since the day the pseudo-scandal broke, the corporate press is now seizing on the Mueller report to shut down debate on one of the key questions still outstanding from the 2016 presidential election: the murder of Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich.

No one knows who killed Rich in Washington, D.C., on July 10, 2016. All we know is that he was found at 4:19 a.m. in the Bloomingdale neighborhood “with apparent gunshot wound(s) to the back” according to the police report. Conscious and still breathing, he was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:57.

Police have added to the confusion by releasing information only in the tiniest dribs and drabs. Rich’s mother, Mary, told local TV news that her son struggled with his assailants: “His hands were bruised, his knees are bruised, his face is bruised, and yet he had two shots to his back, and yet they never took anything…. They took his life for literally no reason. They didn’t finish robbing him, they just took his life.”

But cops said shortly after the killing that they had no immediate indication that robbery was a motive. Despite his mother’s report of two shots in the back, all the local medical examiner would say is that the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the torso. According to Rich’s brother, Aaron, Seth “was very aware, very talkative,” when police found him lying on the pavement. Yet cops have refused to say if he described his assailant. A month later, they put out a statement that “there is no indication that Seth Rich’s death is connected to his employment at the DNC,” but refused to elaborate.

The result is a scattering of disconnected facts that can be used to support just about any theory from a random killing to a political assassination. Nonetheless, Robert Mueller is dead certain that the murder had nothing to do with the emails — just as he was dead certain in 2003 that Iraq was bristling with weapons of mass destruction “pos[ing] a clear threat to our national security.

    Mueller’s Theory About Assange ‘Dissembling’

Mueller is equally positive that, merely by expressing concern that the murder may have had something to do with the release of thousands of DNC emails less than two weeks later, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was trying to protect the real source, which of course is Russia.

Here’s how the Mueller report puts it:

“Beginning in the summer of 2016, Assange and WikiLeaks made a number of statements about Seth Rich, a former DNC staff member who was killed in July 2016. The statements about Rich implied falsely that he had been the source of the stolen DNC emails. On August 9, 2016, the @WikiLeaks Twitter accounted posted: ‘ANNOUNCE: WikiLeaks has decided to issue a US$20k reward for information leading to conviction for the murder of DNC staffer Seth Rich.’

Likewise, on August 25, 2016, Assange was asked in an interview, ‘Why are you so interested in Seth Rich’s killer?’ and responded, ‘We’re very interested in anything that might be a threat to alleged WikiLeaks sources.’ The interviewer responded to Assange’s statement by commenting, ‘I know you don’t want to reveal your source, but it certainly sounds like you’re suggesting a man who leaked information to WikiLeaks was then murdered.’

Assange replied, ‘If there’s someone who’s potentially connected to our publication, and that person has been murdered in suspicious, circumstances, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the two are connected. But it is a very serious matter … that type of allegation is very serious, as it’s taken very seriously by us’” (vol. 1, pp. 48-49).

This is what the Mueller report calls “dissembling.” The conclusion caused jubilation in corporate newsrooms where hostility to both Russia and WikiLeaks runs high. “The Seth Rich conspiracy theory needs to end now,” declared Vox.com. “The special counsel’s report confirmed this week that Seth Rich … was not the source,” said The New York Times. “The Mueller report might not end the debate over what President Donald Trump did,” the Poynter Institute’s Politifact added, “but it has scuttled one conspiracy theory involving a murdered Democratic party staffer and WikiLeaks.”

    • One Conspiracy Theory for Another

But all the Mueller report did was replace one conspiracy theory with another involving the Kremlin and its minions that is equally unconvincing.

Remarkably, there’s nothing in the Mueller report indicating that the special counselor independently reviewed the forensic evidence or questioned family members and friends. He certainly didn’t interview Assange, the person in the best position to know who supplied the data, even though Craig Murray, the ex-British diplomat who serves as an unofficial WikiLeaks spokesman, says the WikiLeaks founder would have been “very willing to give evidence to Mueller” while holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy in London, “which could have been done by video-link, by interview in the Embassy, or by written communication.”

Murray says Mueller’s team made no effort to contact him either even though he has publicly stated that he met clandestinely with an associate of the leaker near the American University campus in Washington.

Why not? Because Mueller didn’t want anything that might disturb his a priori assumption that Russia is the guilty party. If he had bucked the intelligence community finding – set forth in a formal assessment in January 2017 – that Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an influence campaign aimed at undermining Hillary Clinton’s candidacy — it would have been front-page news since an anti-Trump press had already accepted the assessment as gospel. ButMueller is far too much of an establishmentarian to do anything so reckless.

So he selected evidence in support of the official theory that “[t]he Russian government interfered in the 2016 presidential election in sweeping and systematic fashion,” as the report states on its very first page. And since Assange had consistently maintained that the data was the result of an inside leak rather than internal hack and that “[o]ur source is not the Russian government,” he cherry picked evidence to show that Assange is a liar, not only about Russia but about Seth Rich.

      Cryptic Exchange

It’s a self-serving myth that corporate media have swallowed whole because it serves their interests too. One problem in exposing it, however, is Assange’s pledge – intrinsic to the WikiLeaks mission – to safeguard the identities of whistleblowers who furnish it with information. The upshot has been a good deal of beating around the bush. A month after the murder, the WikiLeaks founder appeared on a Dutch program called “Nieuwsuur” and took part in a cryptic exchange with journalist Eelco Bosch van Rosenthal:

Assange: Whistle blowers go to significant efforts to get us material and often very significant risks. There’s a 27-year-old – works for the DNC – who was shot in the back, murdered, just a few weeks ago for unknown reasons as he was walking down the street in Washington, so….

Rosenthal: That was just a robbery, I believe, wasn’t it?

Assange: No, there’s no finding, so –

      Rosenthal: What are you suggesting?

Assange: I’m suggesting that our sources take risks, and they become concerned to see things occurring like that.

Rosenthal: But was he one of your sources then? I mean –

Assange: We don’t comment about who our sources are.

Rosenthal: But why make the suggestion about a young guy being shot in the streets of Washington?

Assange: Because we have to understand how high the stakes are in the United States and that our sources, you know, face serious risks. That’s why they come to us – so we can protect their anonymity.

Rosenthal: But it’s quite something to suggest a murder. That’s basically what you’re doing.

This was as close as Assange could come to confirming that Rich was tied up with the leak without actually saying it. Hours later, WikiLeaks tweeted about the $20k reward.

Four months after that, Craig Murray told the Libertarian Institute’s Scott Horton: “Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that he [Rich] was the source of the leaks. What I’m saying is that it’s probably not an unfair indication to draw that WikiLeaks believe[s] that he may have been killed by someone who thought he was the source of the leaks.” (Quote begins at 11:20.)

Thanks to such foggy rhetoric, it was all but inevitable that conspiracy theories would ignite. Two months after the killing, an ultra-conservative talk-radio host named Jack Burkman – best known for organizing a protest campaign against the Dallas Cowboys’ hiring of an openly gay football player named Michael Sam – approached members of the Rich family and offered to launch an investigation in their behalf.

The family said yes, but then backed off when Burkman grandly announced that the murder was a Kremlin hit. Things turned even more bizarre a year later when Kevin Doherty, an ex-Marine whom Burkman had hired to look into the case, lured his ex-boss to a Marriott hotel in Arlington, Virgina, where he shot him twice in the buttocks and then tried to run him down with a rented SUV. Doherty received a nine-year sentence last December.

The rightwing Washington Times meanwhile reported thatWikiLeaks had paid Seth and Aaron Rich an undisclosed sum, a story it was forced to retract, and Fox News named Seth as the source as well. (A sympathetic judge dismissed a lawsuit filed by the Rich family on technical grounds.) But still the speculation bubbled on, with conservative nuts blaming everyone from ex-DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz to acting DNC chairwoman Donna Brazile, Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta, and Bill and Hillary themselves.

All of which plays into the hands of a corporate press happy to write off any and all suspicion as a product of alt-right paranoia.

But if speculation refuses to die, it’s for a simple reason. If the DNC email disclosure was a hack, then Rich clearly had nothing to do with it, which means his death was no more than a robbery gone awry. But if it was a leak, then – based on broad hints dropped by Assange and Murray – it looks like the story could well be more complicated. This proves nothing in and of itself. But it guarantees that questions will grow as long as the Washington police make zero progress in its investigation and the Mueller report continues to fall apart.

And that’s just what’s happening. Mueller’s account of how Russian intelligence supposedly supplied WikiLeaks with stolen data makes no sense because, according to the report’s chronology, the transfer left WikiLeaks with just four days to review some 28,000 emails and other electronic documents to make sure that they were genuine and unaltered – a clear impossibility. (See “The ‘Guccifer 2.0’ Gaps in Mueller’s Full Report,” April 18.)

The FBI assessment that Paul Manafort associate Konstantin Kilimnik “has ties to Russian intelligence” – which Mueller cites (vol. 1, p. 133) in order to justify holding Manafort in solitary confinement during the Russia-gate investigation – is similarly disintegrating amid reports that Kilimnik actually served as an important State Department intelligence source.

So the idea of a hack makes less and less sense and an inside leak seems more and more plausible, which is why questions about the Rich case will not go away. Bottom line: you don’t have to be a loony rightist to suspect that there is more to the murder than Robert Mueller would like us to believe.
