Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

    A conservative MP would be wholey justified in introducing a bill that designates government as an invasive species. While its designation would be debatable, of course, the debate would be most revealing to Dystopians. Even more effective would be if a liberal MP started such a debate in order to prove his interest in the free market of ideas.

    Socialists could argue that government is native because it is a construct of the human mind, and therefore should not be controlled or culled. Conservatives can argue that an alien species proliferating beyond a habitat’s natural checks and balances must be limited. Environmentalists would provide valuable input here. This whole debate would be predicated by the debate about whether government can be designated a “species” or not. Is it a living thing? What habitat is it invading, socialists can ask. How about all habitats of freedom, including the human mind, conservatives could respond. Then, another could argue, if we allow autonomous human constructs such as government to be designated as a species, what about algorithms? Robots?

    Isn’t it about time humanity wrestled these dangerous inventions into submission?

    “Daesh fighters have gone after the Kurdish-speaking minority in Syria and Iraq, considering them idol worshippers. Reports suggest that the Islamists raped, tortured and killed Yazidi women and children. Although Daesh were pronounced defeated months ago, many foreign fighters still remain in the custody of Kurdish authorities in Syria.

    The Yazidi Women’s Council has commenced a legal battle against Justice Minister Katarina Barley and Interior Minister Horst Seehofer, accusing the German officials of obstruction of justice, the German outlet Deutsche Welle reports. According to the plaintiffs, the German federal government has not done enough to persecute Daesh, who are accused of multiple war crimes against Kurdish-speaking minorities.

    The council members insist that the German authorities have obstructed justice, which is a “criminal offence”, because they have lingered in bringing the Germans, who fought for Daesh and are being held in custody by the self-proclaimed Kurdish authorities, from Syria to put them on trial at home despite offers from the Kurds.

    “The result of this refusal to transfer German nationals in the custody of the local administration in northern and eastern Syria… has delayed — if not prevented — punishment (from being doled out)”, attorney Berthold Fresenius noted, as cited public broadcasters NDR and WDR.

    However, the lawsuit has been received critically by Germany’s Central Yazidi Council who has branded this step “wrong and ineffective”. Its president Irfan Ortac told the German outlet Die Welt that he does not understand the goal of this lawsuit and linked the group with the Kurdish workers’ party, PKK. He acknowledged that German jihadists had committed violent crimes, so Germany has a responsibility to prosecute them. But according to him, “a criminal complaint is the wrong way to remind Germany of this responsibility”. He noted what the country has done instead, such as taking in Yazidi refugees. Germany is also said to be the first country to brand Daesh’s attacks on the Yazidis genocide.

    WDR and NDR cite stats saying that at least 74 German Daesh supporters are currently being held in northern Syria by the unrecognised Kurdish authorities. At the same time, there are arrest warrants against 21 persons suspected of supporting terrorists and committing war crimes.

    Germany does not seem eager to see Daesh fighters back home, as the country’s Justice Ministry recently suggested stripping jihadists of their citizenship. The country’s authorities want their nationals who fought for terrorists to be prosecuted on the spot, so some of them have been already tried in Iraq. However, there is an issue that would make any legal decision by the Kurdish authorities in Syria invalid because the administration is not recognised internationally.

    The repatriation of jihadists, as well as their families, remains a sensitive and politically heated topic not only in Germany but also in other European countries. The United States earlier recommended that each country take charge of its own jihadists and judge them on its territory, whereas France, for instance, also wants the perpetrators to be judged where they were captured.”

    Saturday’s report said a British and a Dutch diplomat were released after being identified as foreign government workers in the early hours of Friday morning.

    The report said the party was attended by several men and women, but did not elaborate or specify if alcohol was present.

    “A fire on Saturday engulfed a migrant center in northwestern Bosnia, injuring 32 people, police said.

    The blaze erupted early in the morning in the center in Velika Kladusa, which hosts some 500 migrants stuck in the Balkan country while trying to move toward Western Europe.

    The blaze likely started accidently from a cooking device, said local police spokesman Ale Siljdedic.

    It spread swiftly, sending the migrants fleeing the building, with some jumping through the windows, Siljdedic told The Associated Press.

    Thirteen migrants remain hospitalized with injuries such as burns or fractures, he said. The fire was put out after several hours.

    Several thousand migrants fleeing war and poverty in their countries have been passing through Bosnia toward the West. They mostly flock to the northwest that borders European Union member Croatia.”

    “The flow of irregular migrants attempting to reach the United Kingdom increased last year, despite strengthened patrols of the UK border force having been deployed in the area.

    The UK Border Force officials have spotted “a record number” of migrant boats off the coast of East Sussex earlier in the morning, Kent News reported. The eight boats containing around 30 people were picked up by the border force at Winchelsea Seaside.

    RNLI lifeboats from Dover, Dungeness and Rye had been involved in the incidents, along with coastguard rescue teams from Folkestone, Langdon and Rye Bay, the Marine and Coastguard Agency stated.

    A week ago, eight migrants were reportedly found in a boat in the English Channel heading towards the coast of Kent, the southeasternmost county in England.

    The Daily Mail reported that in May alone, 140 migrants arrived in the country by boat.”

    “Police were summoned to an asylum shelter in a Bavarian village when its inmates started a violent brawl. However, they could not calm the troublemakers down and were attacked by migrants. Only reinforcement could tackle the uprising.

    Six Nigerians, aged from 23 to 38, were arrested following a riot in an asylum shelter, located in a small Bavarian municipality Stephansposching, German outlet Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reports. An investigation has been launched after five policemen were injured; four of them taken to a hospital with slash wounds and eye injuries.

    On Friday, they were summoned to the facility when its residents started to wreak havoc. According to the outlet, 30 angry refugees insulted and harassed the officials. The situation escalated when the police pulled the alleged ringleader out of the mob. Several asylum seekers attacked the officers and threw bicycles at them; the police responded with pepper spray.

    One of the attackers jumped on the side window of a police car while the others built barricades and blocked the officers who were trying to retreat. The police called for back-up, and the authorities managed to calm the rioters only after it arrived.

    Shelters for refugees and so-called anchor centres, established to facilitate the processing of asylum applications, have repeatedly become a scene for violent crimes. Earlier in May, police were attacked and pelted with stones in the southern German city of Regensburg as they attempted to investigate the death of a 31-year-old woman at the migrant centre there.

    Germany continues to witness an upsurge in crime against the backdrop of the migrant crisis. One in 10 victims of serious crimes in Germany is assaulted by an asylum seeker or refugee, Die Welt reported earlier this year, citing the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA).

    Angela Merkel’s refugee policy and “open borders” approach, in particular, have prompted criticism and even protests against the government in Germany, which has become one of the countries most affected by the migrant crisis in Europe which erupted in 2015.”

    The U.S. Justice Department is preparing to open an antitrust investigation into Alphabet Inc.’s Google, according to a person familiar with the matter, marking the Trump administration’s first major step to scrutinize the potentially anti-competitive conduct of a giant technology firm.

    American antitrust officials are under increasing pressure from both Democratic and Republican lawmakers and advocates of tougher enforcement to step up scrutiny of technology giants like Google and Facebook Inc.     (Reuters) – The U.S. Justice Department is preparing an investigation of Alphabet Inc’s Google to determine whether the tech giant broke antitrust law in operating its sprawling online businesses, two sources familiar with the matter said.

    Officials from the Justice Department’s Antitrust Division and Federal Trade Commission, which both enforce antitrust law, met in recent weeks to give Justice jurisdiction over Google, said the sources, who sought anonymity because they were not authorized to speak on the record.

    The potential investigation represents the latest attack on a tech company by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, who has accused social media companies and Google of suppressing conservative voices on their platforms online.

    One source said the potential investigation, first reported by the Wall Street Journal, focused on accusations that Google gave preference to its own businesses in searches.

    A spokesman for the Justice Department said he could not confirm or deny that an investigation was being considered. Google declined comment.

    Early in 2013, the FTC closed a long-running investigation of Google, giving it a slap on the wrist. Under FTC pressure, Google agreed to end the practice of “scraping” reviews and other data from rivals’ websites for its own products, and to let advertisers export data to independently assess campaigns.

    • Google Should Be Afraid. Very Afraid.

      (Bloomberg Opinion) — This is the moment the U.S. technology superpowers surely knew was coming: The U.S. government is preparing to crawl all over Google to figure out whether it is an abusive monopolist. Google parent company Alphabet Inc. and the other tech giants should be quaking in their fleece vests.

      Bloomberg News and other news organizations reported late Friday that the U.S. Department of Justice is preparing to open an investigation into Google’s compliance with antitrust laws. If it goes forward, an investigation will no doubt be broad, lengthy, messy, and impossible for Google and its investors to predict.

      That should terrify Google and every other big technology company — because there’s no guarantee that the antitrust Klieg light will turn on one company alone.

      This isn’t Google’s first antitrust rodeo. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission in 2013 closed without further action its own antitrust investigation into whether Google wielded its dominant web search engine like a cudgel to disadvantage rivals, drive up prices for advertisers and ultimately harm consumers. (Google did agree to some voluntary changes.)

      And in recent years, the European Union antitrust watchdog imposed billions of dollars in fines after finding antitrust violations, including over how Google conducted business with its Android smartphone software and its internet shopping service. In the U.S. and elsewhere, politicians from all party stripes have sought to attack Google or other tech giants for various perceived sins, including being too big for the good of industry and consumers. Being Google has meant dealing with perennial regulatory and political nightmares.

    Is Vermin Infestation Making People Sick At Downtown LAPD Station?

    An infestation of vermin at a building in Downtown Los Angeles is allegedly making people sick.

    CBS2’KCAL9’s Sara Donchey reports that the people getting sick are work at one of LAPD’s stations.

    LAPD’s Central Division is in the heart of Skid Row. It appears the troubled areas problems are, in this case, stemming from inside the building.

    The LAPD says an employee at that station contracted salmonella typhi, which typically comes from infected food or water.

    A second employee is believed to have now contracted the same thing.

    CBS2/KCAL9 has obtained an OSHA report citing the LAPD for an unclean work area. The report cited, among other things, “the presence of rats/rodents, fleas, roaches, flies gnats, mosquitoes and grasshoppers” at the LAPD Central Community Police Station.

    This isn’t the first time rats have infested a city building.

    Earlier this year, a city attorney contracted typhus at LA City Hall.

    LAPD officers being treated for typhoid fever, typhus-like symptoms

    At least one officer with the Los Angeles Police Department has contracted the bacteria that causes typhoid fever, Salmonella typhi, and another one is showing typhus-like symptoms, the police department announced on Thursday.

    The officer who had contracted the illness is being treated, and the other officer has yet to be confirmed to be infected, according to the LAPD. Both officers work at the LAPD’s Central Division, according to a statement released by the department.

    Salmonella typhi is uncommon in the U.S. and other modern industrialized nations, affecting only about 350 Americans each year — most of whom recently returned from overseas travel. Worldwide, it affects an estimated 22 million people each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

    • Homeless People In Fremont Found Living In Makeshift Tree Houses

      FREMONT (CBS SF) — The occupants of five to six ramshackle tree houses built in a private industrial park near Stevenson Boulevard and I-880 in Fremont are facing eviction.

      Crews equipped with chainsaws and handsaws have begun clearing out the structures and cutting off limbs in order to make it harder to reoccupy and easier to spot the homeless who are taking refuge in the trees. They are about halfway through the long line of more than 60 eucalyptus trees.

      Neighboring business owners say the first tree house went up in February and started multiplying over the next three months.

    • Bubonic Plague ‘Likely’ Already Present In Los Angeles, Dr. Drew Says

      Los Angeles is going down the drain.

      The city, with a population topping four million and a broader metropolitan area with many millions more, is awash in massive problems — overcrowding, lack of housing, and high demand for free services among them. But other far more serious problems are lurking, Dr. Drew Pinksy said on Thursday.

      “We have a complete breakdown of the basic needs of civilization in Los Angeles right now,” Pinsky told Fox New host Laura Ingraham. “We have the three prongs of airborne disease, tuberculosis is exploding, rodent-borne. We are one of the only cities in the country that doesn’t have a rodent control program, and sanitation has broken down.”

      Pinsky said bubonic plague — also known as the “Black Death,” a pandemic that killed off millions in the 14th century — is “likely” already present in Los Angeles. The plague is spread by infected fleas and exposure to bodily fluids from a dead plague-infected animal, with the bacteria entering through the skin and traveling to lymph nodes.

      Typhus, which broke out in the city last year, will likely return, Pinsky said. Already, a Los Angeles police officer has contracted typhoid fever, which infects fewer than 350 Americans each year. The various types of typhus are caused by a bacterial infection and spread by body lice, chiggers or fleas. In the 1600s, the disease decimated Germany.

    Police were called early this morning to a Clearwater, Florida residence after the homeowner reported that an 11-foor alligator broke into the condo via a ground-level window.

    The 3 AM home invader was subsequently corralled by a trapper (but not before the alligator toppled furniture and broke a bottle of wine). Cops reported that there were no injuries during the incident.

    The Clearwater home where the alligator briefly resided is adjacent to the 11th green at the Gary Player-designed Countryside Country Club. The hole includes a large lake from which the alligator may have emerged.

      SINGAPORE (Reuters) – The United States’ actions on Taiwan and the South China Sea are hardly conducive to maintaining stability in the region, a senior Chinese military official said on Saturday, responding to comments by acting U.S. Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan.

      “He (Shanahan) has been expressing inaccurate views and repeating old tunes about the issues of Taiwan and the South China Sea,” Shao Yuanming, a senior official of the People’s Liberation Army, told reporters after Shanahan’s speech.

    According to the Obama, anyone can buy machine guns, even over the Internet, because there’s almost nothing that regulates the sale of guns.

    “Some of you may be aware our gun laws in the United States don’t make much sense. Anybody can buy any weapon any time — without much if any regulation, they can buy it over the Internet, they can buy machine guns,” he said.

Take the case of 46-year-old Simon Rochel-Cervantes, a Mexican national and registered sex offender, who was convicted for the 2006 rape of a child under the age of 14 (his victim was 11) and aggravated intimidation of a witness. He was sentenced to 7 years in prison and served that time in the Ellsworth Correctional Facility in Kansas.

    On Feb. 19 he was released and transferred to federal custody for deportation, according to the Salina (Kan.) Post. On March 5, two weeks later to the day, he was picked up by police in Butler County, Kans.

    Rochel-Cervantes is charged with unlawfully re-entering the United States after being deported.

    If convicted, he faces up to two years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000. Immigration and Customs Enforcement HSI investigated.
