Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

Antisemites like @rashidatlaib have a long track record of distorting Jewish history just as the Nazis did – but only Rashida lies, gets called out, and then blames her critics for her lies! I’m glad we all saw right through her, but she’s still in Congress!

Reptiles that ruled the earth for 120 million years before an asteroid impact ushered in climatic shifts that wiped out most of them expressed relief that they met their demise long before their planet produced the baffling, disturbing phenomenon of self-professed tolerant, liberal humans welcoming the intolerant, repressive influence of political Islam.

Representatives of the tyrannosaurus, stegosaurus, brachiosaurus, velociraptor, triceratops, and numerous other prehistoric reptilian species told reporters today (Monday) that they prefer their fate of perishing of starvation, cold, and related maladies to living at the same time as creatures whose idea of ethics involves characterizing a violent supremacist movement as victims deserving of accommodation.

  6. Italy’s Populist Salvini Tells ‘Fascist’ Far Left: Get a Job! (breitbart, May 14, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/05/14/italys-populist-salvini-tells-fascist-far-left-get-a-job/

“Populist Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini reacted with anger following the latest far-left protests against him on the European election campaign trail, labelling them “fascists.”
The far-left protesters, many of whom come from the Italian left-wing social centres that are often communist or anarchist, chanted “Fascist! Fascist!” at the Lega leader following a meeting in the northern commune of Settimo Torinese in the city of Turin, according to a report from Italian newspaper Il Giornale.

“You go around Piedmont looking for fascists, but you are the only fascists,” Salvini said to the protesters.

“I get angry when on the TV someone on the left attacks me because he says ‘Italians have also emigrated around the world’” he said and later added, “They should rinse their mouths before comparing those who went to the mines in Belgium or make a fortune in the United States, in Switzerland or in Germany to those who come here to mess up at 35 euros a day.”

“They lack education,” Salvini said of the protesters and called them products of the far-left social centres. Telling the protestors to get a job instead, he continued, “I have patience but if those people put their hands on even just a decent person who is in the square I get angry like a beast. Go to work if you are able to do so, be ashamed.”

Since becoming Interior Minister and co-Deputy Prime Minister, Salvini has faced multiple threats from far-left extremists, including some who have outright called for his assassination.

In September of last year, the Autonomous University Collective (CUA) group in Bologna put up posters showing Salvini’s face with a target on it and the caption, “Assassin. Take aim at this.”

Anarchist extremists also took credit for the bombing of an office of Lega in Treviso in August of 2018, which saw two bombs placed at the office, with the first designed to lure in emergency services workers and a second bigger bomb to be triggered upon their arrival. Police were able to disarm the explosive before it detonated.

In January another Lega office was bombed, and last month authorities arrested two Moroccan migrants believed to be connected to the incident.”

“Mob attacks on Muslim communities in Sri Lanka’s northwest have left one person dead and dozens of shops and mosques destroyed, a government minister said Tuesday, as communal violence worsened in the wake of Easter bombings that killed more than 250 people.

A Muslim man was hacked to death in Monday’s violence in which members of the country’s largely Buddhist majority ethnic Sinhalese attacked Muslim-owned shops and homes in several towns, said Rauff Hakeem, a Cabinet minister and leader of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress.

With communal violence also reported in Sri Lanka’s west, the government imposed a nationwide curfew Monday and temporarily blocked social media and messaging apps.

  10. US China Trade War: ’Trump is Not Going to Back Down… This is a War of Values’—Curtis Ellis

    • Beijing calls for a ‘people’s war’ against the US as Trump threatens tariffs on another $300 billion of Chinese goods in all-out trade battle

The US-China trade war continues to heat up, with Beijing calling for a “people’s war” against Washington and President Donald Trump threatening to impose tariffs on another $300 billion worth of Chinese goods.

In a series of editorials and op-ed articles published Monday, Chinese state media slammed what it labeled the Trump administration’s “greed and arrogance” and called for a “people’s war” against it. Beijing’s state-run media effectively serves as a mouthpiece for the Communist Party.

“The most important thing is that in the China-US trade war, the US side fights for greed and arrogance … and morale will break at any point. The Chinese side is fighting back to protect its legitimate interests,” the nationalistic Global Times tabloid wrote in a Chinese-language editorial carried by Xinhua News Agency.

“The trade war in the US is the creation of one person and one administration, but it affects that country’s entire population. In China, the entire country and all its people are being threatened. For us, this is a real ‘people’s war

    • Don’t ever forget that China needs to export to the US, the US doesn’t need to import from China. They are being hurt much worse then we are, and their economy was several orders of magnitude weaker then ours. If the propaganda sources in the west and our treasonous politicians don’t force us to remove the tariffs China will cave long before we are hurting to the point we would have to cave.

Another point to remember is that every penny that doesn’t go to China is money that can’t be spent on their Belt and Road project.

  11. German City Bans Cake Stall Over Fears It Might Fund Islamists (sputniknews, May 14, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201905141074994067-germany-islamists-cake-funding/

“Hannover, considered to be a focal city for the radical Islamic Salafist movement, entered the national spotlight last year after the city’s authorities permitted setting up street vendors selling sweets to raise money that could potentially have been used to fund extremists.

Hannover’s authorities have prohibited placing a cake stand in the city centre in order to curtail alleged fundraising for Islamists, the German outlet Neue Presse reports.

According to the outlet, Salafists made an attempt to set up a fundraising stall amid a so-called Cake Day the day before the start of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan. But the city denied granting permission to set up the cake stand over the “alleged Islamist background” of the applicants. The name of the organisation that applied for permission has not been revealed.

The city administration acted in accordance with the recently reformed Road Act of the Federal State of Lower Saxony. The changes allow local authorities to prohibit street events that undermine the democratic order and to take action against content being spread at them. This was the first time that the city used the new measure. Hannover’s authorities also pledged to prevent Salafists from collecting donations on the streets “for dubious purposes”, as Neue Presse put it…”

  12. Richard: PT is increasing the pressure on Iran, and driving the left to their safe spaces at the same time.

NYT: Pentagon presented plan to deploy 120,000 troops in case of Iran escalation

At the direction of national security adviser John Bolton, acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan last week presented top White House national security officials with a plan to send up to 120,000 troops to the Middle East in the event that Iran “attack American forces or accelerate work on nuclear weapons,” the New York Times reports.

Details: The plan was reportedly presented during a meeting about the Trump administration’s broader Iran policy, attended — among others — by Bolton, CIA director Gina Haspel, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford and Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats. It’s unclear if President Trump has been briefed on the details of the plan, which did not call for a land invasion of Iran, but requested a similar number of troops involved the U.S.’ 2003 invasion of Iraq, per the Times.

The big picture: Bolton and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo have been warning of an unspecified “escalating threat” from Iran in recent weeks, after receiving intelligence from Israel about a possible Iranian plot to attack U.S. interests in the region. Trump told reporters today that he’d been “hearing little stories about Iran,” adding: “If they do anything, they will suffer greatly.”

    • Saudi Arabia oil stations attacked by drones

Saudi Aramco ‘supply to clients have not been affected by the terrorist attacks’

Dubai: Saudi Energy Minister Khalid Al Falih said on Tuesday that two oil pumping stations for the East-West pipeline had been hit by explosive-laden drones, calling the attack “an act of terrorism” that targeted global oil supplies.

Falih condemned the attacks in a statment saying: “The latest acts of terrorism and sabotage in the Arabian Gulf… not only target the Kingdom but also the security of oil supplies to the world and the global economy.”

“These attacks prove again that it is important for us to face terrorist entities, including the Houthi militias in Yemen that are backed by Iran,” he said.

Falih said Saudi oil output and exports for crude and refined products were continuing without disruption, but that the state oil giant Aramco had halted oil pumping in the pipeline while the damage was evaluated and the stations were repaired, according to a statement carried by the state news agency SPA.

The 1,200-kilometre pipeline carries crude from Saudi Arabia’s main eastern oil fields to the Red Sea port city of Yanbu in the west.

      • Iran is feeling the pressure and is trying to up the cost of resisting them. They are smart enough to know that directly attacking US personal and assets in the Middle East will bring about a massive retaliation so they are hitting our allies. Allies that they are already fighting a proxy war, this has a much lower risk of the US reacting with direct military force.

      • Iran says Trump playing ‘very dangerous game’ and risking ‘devastating war’

LONDON – The United States is playing a “very dangerous game” as it attempts to “drag Iran into an unnecessary war,” a senior Iranian official said Tuesday.

Hamid Baeidinejad, Iran’s ambassador to the United Kingdom, told reporters here that the Trump administration’s deployment of an aircraft carrier strike group, B-52 bombers and other military personnel and equipment to the Persian Gulf to counter alleged, unspecified Iranian threats risked “serious miscalculation.”

Baeidinejad denied that Iran or its “proxies” were behind what Washington has described as the possible Iranian-backed “sabotage” of oil tankers in the Gulf belonging to Saudi Arabia, Norway and the United Arab Emirates. On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia said that drones also attacked one of its oil pipelines and other energy infrastructure.

“We are prepared for any eventuality, this I can tell you,” Baeidinejad said, amid growing tensions between the U.S. and Iran that have appeared to bring the two longstanding foes to the brink of war.

He said from the Iranian perspective it appeared that some of President Donald Trump’s closest advisers such as National Security Adviser John Bolton were actively “trying to convince” Trump to start a military confrontation that neither country wants and would be “devastating” for both Iran, the U.S. and the region.

    • Yemeni Armed Drones Attack Saudi Oil Pipeline
The strike was believed to be backed by Iran, which warned Tuesday of U.S.-created ‘false flag attacks’ as the likelihood of conflict escalates.

A major oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia was struck by armed drones and temporarily shut down, the kingdom’s energy minister said Tuesday, calling the move an “act of terrorism and sabotage” that marks the second attack on the Saudi oil infrastructure in as many days.

Saudi Energy Minister Khalid Al-Falih did not directly identify the perpetrator of the attack but said the incidents prove the importance of the kingdom’s continued conflict against terrorist groups, including the Iran-backed Houthi militias in Yemen, according to the country’s state news service. Oil prices spiked as a result of the attacks, Reuters reports.

Saudi Arabia continues to wage war in Yemen against those militias in what is considered a proxy conflict between the oil-rich gulf state and its arch-rival Iran, which backs the Houthis. U.S. and allied intelligence assessments indicate Iran was also behind sabotaging two Saudi oil tankers on Monday.

    • Sea change in rhetoric: Iran now calls U.S. forces ‘target,’ not threat

Iran commander calls U.S. military in Gulf a target not a threat -ISNA

GENEVA, May 12 (Reuters) – A senior Iranian Revolutionary Guards commander said on Sunday the U.S. military presence in the Gulf used to be a serious threat but now represents a target, the Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA) reported.

The U.S. military has sent forces, including an aircraft carrier and B-52 bombers, to the Middle East in a move that U.S. officials said was made to counter “clear indications” of threats from Iran to American forces in the region.

The USS Abraham Lincoln is replacing another carrier rotated out of the Gulf last month.

“An aircraft carrier that has at least 40 to 50 planes on it and 6,000 forces gathered within it was a serious threat for us in the past but now it is a target and the threats have switched to opportunities,” said Amirali Hajizadeh, head of the Guards’ aerospace division.

“If (the Americans) make a move, we will hit them in the head,” he added, according to ISNA.

U.S. President Donald Trump also has increased economic pressure on Iran, moving to cut off all its oil exports, to try to get Tehran to curb its nuclear and missile programs as well as end support for proxies in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon and Yemen.

Will political correctness kill classic movies?

The rise of political correctness can be seen across movie screens this weekend.

“The Hustle,” a gender-swap remake of 1988’s “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,” rails against the patriarchy between sight gags. “Avengers: Endgame” shoehorns a minor gay character into the story as a super-virtue-signal. “Long Shot” shows Seth Rogen apologizing for the United States bombing Japan to help end World War II.

Even older films, and the stars who made them great, are now seen through the PC prism. Just ask the estate of John Wayne. The legendary star got pummeled a few months ago, decades after his passing, for a racially insensitive Playboy interview in 1971. Some critics demanded that his name be stripped from John Wayne Airport in Orange County, Calif.

Singer Kate Smith’s film career is dwarfed by her radio, TV and stage accomplishments. Yet Smith’s recording of two 1930s songs deemed racist convinced two professional sports teams — the New York Yankees and the Philadelphia Flyers — to strip her iconic rendition of “God Bless America” from their programming.

    • Check out Pet Cemetery, the new one. Its all diverse now but the old white male is more clearly evil and the ghost that tries to warn them all is a black guy and the story focuses on a little girl that I don’t remember at all from the original but she is in nearly every scene in the remake. I cant get through it. All entertainment nearly seems to be based on the Narrative and not on entertainment or merit in any way.

      • There aren’t many modern films I will watch and those I do watch have enough of the narrative in them that I have trouble enjoying them.

  14. Record number of attacks on gays in France: report

Paris (AFP) – Assaults in France on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people hit a new record in 2018, “a dark year” for the LGBT community, French group SOS Homophobie reported Tuesday.

The non-profit association registered 231 physical attacks, up from the previous annual record of 188 anti-LGBT assaults back in 2013 linked to same-sex marriage legislation.

“2018 was a dark year for LGBT people,” said SOS Homophobie co-presidents Véronique Godet and Joël Deumier in the yearly report.

The number of assaults jumped 66 percent over 2017, with a spike towards the end of the year when a case a day was being reported to the group.

SOS Homophobie’s helpline, website and legal services collected 1,905 statements from witnesses of abuse of the gay community, 15 percent more than the previous year.

“When the bus arrived, the driver stopped, looked at them, and left without opening the doors,” wrote Bencheikh.

The girls ran after the bus and managed to catch up to it at a red light. When they asked the driver why they weren’t allowed on board, he responded, “Think about dressing as you should.”

SEOUL (Reuters) – North Korea said on Tuesday the seizure of one of its cargo ships by the United States was an illegal act that violated the spirit of a summit between the two countries’ leaders, and demanded the return of the vessel without delay.

The North’s foreign ministry said in a statement that it rejected U.N. Security Council resolutions against it which the United States cited in impounding the vessel, as a violation of its sovereignty.

“The United States committed an unlawful and outrageous act of dispossessing our cargo ship,” an unnamed ministry spokesman said in a statement carried by the North’s official KCNA news agency.

  18. Twitter bans expert on sexuality for stating transgenderism is a mental disorder
By Ben Bowles May 13, 2019

For a group that is forever chiding conservatives for their refusal to accept “the science” of global warmism, liberals sure have a strong aversion to science. In the past, they have been content to stuff their fingers in its ears and hum whenever the name Paul McHugh came up in conversation. McHugh, University Distinguished Professor of Psychiatry at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and foremost authority in the field of sexuality and gender confusion, has argued repeatedly that treating gender confusion as “a right in need of defending rather than as a mental disorder ” is dangerous and counter-productive.

Now another expert in the field has spoken, and this time the action taken against him is drastic and punitive. He is Ray Blanchard, and his claim to fame is not limited to his scholarly writing on gender confusion. He was also chairman of the working group on paraphilia for the controversial fifth edition of the “Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders” (DSM V), in which the classification of transgenderism was changed from a disorder to the more benign-sounding “gender dysphoria.” (Paraphilia is a condition characterized by abnormal sexual desires, typically involving extreme or dangerous activities.)

On Sunday afternoon, Blanchard tweeted a thread in which he acknowledged among other things that “transsexualism and milder forms of gender dysphoria are mental disorders.”

  20. CBC – Kevin Johnston ordered to pay $2.5M for ‘hateful, Islamophobic’ remarks against restaurant chain owner

Kevin Johnston’s behaviour and comments to Mohamad Fakih called ‘horrific’ by judge

A former Mississauga, Ont., mayoral candidate charged two years ago with a hate crime, displayed “horrific” behaviour whenhe made “hateful Islamophobic” comments against Paramount Fine Foods owner Mohamad Fakih, a judge has ruled.

In a decision released Monday, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice awarded $2.5 million in damages to Fakih and Paramount, a chain of Middle Eastern restaurants in the Greater Toronto Area, for defamation over a series of videos and online posts made by Kevin Johnston, some on his website Freedom Report, starting in July 2017.

Johnston, who most recently ran for mayor in 2018 when he lost out to current mayor Bonnie Crombie, placing second with 13.5 per cent of the vote, was charged in 2017 for offering a $1,000 reward in exchange for videos of Muslim students praying in schools. He, his website, and Ron Banerjee were named as defendants in Fakih’s original lawsuit, filed Aug. 4, 2017.

“At its core, the horrific behaviour of the Johnston defendants has been a grievous injustice to a valued member of the Canadian community who deserves nothing less than our respect, but it is more than that,” the decision said.

Johnston’s behaviour “reflects a contempt for Canada’s judicial process, an abuse of the very freedoms this country affords them and a loathsome example of hate speech at its worst, targeting people solely because of their religion,” the judge added.

‘Profits from the promotion of hatred’

The case goes back to July 20, when a Mississauga Paramount location hosted Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at a Liberal Party fundraiser. Johnston was stationed outside with a camera and megaphone, along with Banerjee, who later released a video apologizing for his comments as part of a settlement in December 2018.

“I have learned that it was wrong to attack Mr. Fakih? because of his religion or where he is from. Such hate has no place in Canada,” Banerjee said in the video. “I hope everyone seeing or reading this apology learns from my mistake.”

From July 23 to Aug. 1 of 2018, the judgment says, the defendants published eight videos making false and malicious statements, including that Fakih was an “economic terrorist” who was under investigation by CSIS and that Paramount was “little more than a front” whose purpose was to facilitate “Islamic discussion.”

“Mr. Johnston profits from the promotion of hatred. He takes paid speaking engagements featuring anti-Muslim statements, and Freedom Report solicits donations,” the decision says.

In addition to the videos, the decision says, Johnston approached Fakih while he was at Erin Mills Town Centre mall with his three children, accusing him of being a terrorist and snapping photos of them, even following them into the parking lot as they tried to leave the mall.

    A ‘clear message’

“Since the commencement of this action, the Johnston defendants have repeatedly and consistently shown little regard for these proceedings,” it goes on to say, adding Johnston harassed Fakih’s lawyers and broadcast threatening messages against Fakih.

CBC News reached out to Johnston for comment Monday, but did not receive a response.

In a statement Monday, Fakih said the judgment sends a “clear message” that Johnston’s behaviour was wrong.
    ==============================
This decision is an important step towards demonstrating that those who are spewing hate online are going to have to pay. – Mohamad Fakih

    =========================================
“This is important because when someone falsely calls you a ‘terrorist’ simply because you are a Muslim, that is Islamophobia,” he said.

“I feel vindicated. This decision is an important step towards demonstrating that those who are spewing hate online are going to have to pay.”

The decision goes on to say that the actions by Johnston and the others should be looked at in a broader context, namely amid an “overall rise of hate speech in Canada.”

According to Statistics Canada, the number of hate crimes reached an all-time high in 2017, with the majority of incidents reported to have targeted Muslim, Jewish and black people.

“Buried in these statistics are the stories of actual people,” the judgment says.

The decision also points to the expansive reach that hateful material can have once posted online.

“In this fractious 21st century — where social media and the internet now allow some of the darkest forces in our society to achieve attention — these issues are numerous and profound, and their impact extends well beyond the borders of this country,” the decision says.

In addition to the $2.5 million in damages, Johnston has been ordered to refrain from communicating with, recording or publishing material about, or coming within 100 metres of Fakih, his residence or his family.

“I did this not for me, but for my kids to know that people who bully and spew hate are wrong, and that Canada will defend us,” Fakih said in a statement.

“This judgment has rejuvenated my sense of belonging here. To know that the courts will stand by me, at a time when I felt very targeted and lonely, gives me great confidence in our justice system and our democracy.”

  21. AUSTRIA – Ten Commandments for Muslim immigrants to Austria

Austrian authorities intend to present social contract to all wishing to immigrate to country. Among items: Learn German, obey Austrian law.

Following the wave of Muslim immigration to Austria and the fact that many of the immigrants did not integrate into Austrian society, Austrian government heads intend to formulate a Ten Commandments-like list of social prerequisites that immigrants will be required to comply with if they wish to immigrate to the country, German newspaper Welt reported.

According to reports in the Austrian media, the ten new rules will include: Learn German, obey Austrian law, adopt “Austrian values” and raise children accordingly, resolve conflicts nonviolently, respect religious freedom, prevent “unnecessary” suffering to animals, and express thanks and appreciation to Austria.

The new standards of behavior will be distributed to those wishing to immigrate to Austria in the courses they will need to pass, which will be given in 15 languages. Austria will even require immigrants to sign the new rules to obtain permission to emigrate to the country.

If they meet their obligations, they will be presented with a document to serve as a constant reminder of the ten rules they are obliged to obey, together with their new Austrian residence permits.

The initiative to issue the “Ten Rules for an Immigrant” came from the Austrian Freedom Party that takes a very tough line against immigration to the country and opposes opening the gates to immigrants. Immigration and Asylum Policy Minister Gottfried Waldhäusl had previously set up a detention facility for immigrants near the Czech border that was severely criticized for its conditions and was subsequently closed.

  23. New Zealand: Guterres pays respects to victims at Christchurch mosque attack sites

The Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres on Tuesday visited the sites of the Christchurch mosque shootings that claimed 51 lives in March.

Guterres placed flowers at the Al Noor Mosque and Linwood Islamic Centre where the lone assailant had gunned down 42 and nine of his victims respectively.

“We must all show solidarity in response to this dangerous upsurge in hatred,” said Guterres who was surrounded by the family members of the victims.

He also underlined two sets of initiatives to prevent similar incident in the future, namely “to protect holy sites and to address hate speech.”

Guterres, who is on a three-day visit to New Zealand, will address the Pacific Islands Forum in Fiji on Wednesday.

  24. Salvini Tables Decree to Slap Rescue Vessels With Fines Up to €5,500 per Migrant (sputniknews, May 14, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201905141074999865-salvini-italy-migrant-fine/

“The bill would slap rescue vessels with penalties between €3,500 and €5,500 per “foreigner” that set foot in Italy, with threats of suspending or revoking licences for Italian vessels transporting rescued migrants.

Matteo Salvini, Italy’s interior minister and deputy prime minister, proposed a bill on Friday aimed at curbing migration by fining services that rescue migrants up to €5,500 per refugee.

The bill would also give police more powers to tackle migration and include stiffer penalties for resisting arrests. The Italian Cabinet must also approve the bill before it becomes a decree before moving to the Italian parliament, who would sign the decree into law.

But multiple non-government organisations have spoken out against the bill, stating it would contradict international maritime law.

Italian president for Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), Claudia Lodesani, slammed the move by comparing the new bill to “fining ambulances for bringing patients to the hospital in a press statement.

“The new decree from the Italian government is threatening legal principles and the duty of saving lives at sea.”

“We don’t expect it to become any kind of piece of enforceable legislation,” Frédéric Penard, SOS Mediterranée director of operations said. “Captains doing rescue at sea do not have a choice – it is an obligation,” he said, citing the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea of 1982.”

  26. Tlaib’s Morbid Fantasies of a Palestinian “Safe Haven” for Jews
Nancy Pelosi – Where are you?
    May 14, 2019
    Joseph Klein

Palestinian-American Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., is standing by her latest hate-filled statement, which is based on a monstrous falsehood. She said that she has a “kind of calming feeling” when she thinks about the Holocaust because her Palestinian “ancestors” tried “to create a safe haven for Jews, post-the Holocaust, post-the tragedy and the horrific persecution of Jews across the world at that time.” In the same interview by hosts Michael Isikoff and Daniel Klaidman, Rep. Tlaib complained, according to her one-sided Palestinian victimhood narrative, “that it was my ancestors, Palestinians, who lost their land and some lost their lives, their livelihood, their human dignity, their existence in many ways…”

Rep. Tlaib’s Palestinian “ancestors” were in fact amongst the enthusiastic boosters of the Nazi genocide machine during World War II. Palestinian leaders sought to carry on the plan to exterminate as many of the Jews as possible who had managed to escape the Holocaust and reach the Holy Land following the war. Instead of accepting the original two-state solution proposed by the United Nations more than seven decades ago under which the Palestinians could have been living in their own independent state all this time, their leadership rejected the idea of a Jewish state existing side by side in peace with a Palestinian state.

President Trump correctly admonished Rep. Tlaib, tweeting “Democrat Rep. Tlaib is being slammed for her horrible and highly insensitive statement on the Holocaust. She obviously has tremendous hatred of Israel and the Jewish people.” Bernie Sanders rushed to her defense. Senator Sanders tweeted that President Trump should apologize for “taking Rep. @RashidaTlaib’s comments out of context.” This is the same man who said the Boston Marathon terrorist bomber should have the “right” to vote from jail.

    “But, it’s a private company.”

It’s a familiar argument. Bring up the problem of Google, Facebook and Twitter suppressing conservative speech and many conservatives will retort that it’s a free market. The big dot com monopolies created their own companies, didn’t they? And we wouldn’t want government regulation of business.

In a FOX Business editorial, Iain Murray writes that breaking up dot coms like Google would be “a repudiation of conservative principles”. He argues that “Twitter is a private company” and that “there is no positive right to free speech on Twitter or any other private venue.”

“The same goes for the president’s attacks on Google and the complaints of conservative censorship,” Diane Katz writes at the Heritage Institute. “These private enterprises are not obligated to abide any sort of partisan fairness doctrine.”

The talking point that Google, Facebook and Twitter are private companies that can discriminate as they please on their private platforms, and that the First Amendment doesn’t apply, is in the air everywhere.

But it overlooks two very simple facts.

  29. How to Defeat Tehran’s Islamic Republic
America must have the will to do it.
    May 14, 2019
    Michael Ledeen

My friend Eli Lake believes that the Trump Iran Policy (aka “maximum pressure”) is working and should be embraced by the Europeans. By “working” he means that tougher sanctions will force the mullahs back to the negotiating table, and produce a better deal.

By waging economic war on Iran, the president is using the same tactics that pressured the regime into nuclear negotiations in the first place. Despite the PR campaign from Iran’s foreign ministry, the evidence shows that threats and pressure work against the Islamic Republic. This time around, Trump and his cabinet have vowed that any negotiations will also address Iran’s support for terrorism and its missile proliferation, along with regional meddling.

I think Eli has Trump right, but he’s got the history wrong. I think the Iranians agreed to the negotiations with Obama when they concluded that the Americans had no will to challenge the Tehran regime, and that any deal reached with Obama would be very favorable to the mullahs. And they were right on both counts. Indeed, they were righter than they dared dream. Throughout the negotiations, Obama/Kerry repeatedly introduced concessions the Iranians hadn’t even asked for, and the final deal gave Tehran enormous wiggle room. As we now know, thanks to Israeli spies (NOT our own intelligence), the Islamic Republic cheated on the nuclear weapons all along, as we should expect in the event of any new arrangement. Nonetheless, Trump is indeed pushing for new negotiations, even publicly giving Khamenei the best phone number to use whenever they’re ready.

    • Revolutions don’t just “happen” when things are really bad. They are made by revolutionary leaders.

Ledeen is calling for the US to topple the Iranian regime I don’t think any of us would object to that as long as we don’t get into a quagmire. The problem is that I don’t know which Iranian “leader” we can trust to remain a semi good guy after the current regime is toppled. Hopefully we have some people who know someone like this, however there is another complication, can we be sure that there aren’t deep state people who won’t broadcast to the world what we are doing to help the Iranians liberate themselves? This same question can be ask about helping the Venezuelans liberate themselves?

He is also wrong to discount the economic factor in fomenting revolutions, you need something to bring the population to the point that revolutionary leaders can create a revolution. Economics can play a very big part in bringing the people to the edge of rebellion, after that the revolutionary leaders take over.

Semi OT: This is what is hampering the backlash against the Islamic Invaders, the people in the nations that have been invaded need a leader for the resistance to gather around. We are seeing leaders emerge in many of our nations but we don’t know which ones are going to be “The One.” Right now many people are willing to revolt if there is a leader to show them the way, but we don’t know which will succeed.

As Donald Trump showed the revolution can be at the ballot box not on the streets, If we can take control by the ballot box forcing the Far Radical Left to be the ones taking to the streets with violence we will attract more people to our side then if we start the fighting.

      • What’s going on in Iran is too kinky for this YankeeKafir. Read between the lines in Farsi? Balochi-dialect Arabic?

Ledeen can fight his optional wars with his virtual buddies.

I’ll just trust those with the best intelligence. Especially those who must carry the weight of soldiers (and civilians!) they send to their deaths.

        That’s PTrump and Bibi.
I’ll have to be ok with their decisions. I pray that they be given wisdom and courage, that we merit justice and mercy.

      • As to the fight against invaders in the West, that’s on our doorstep. And I limit myself to what’s in (or passes for) English, USA.

At least we can use our history, understand the framework of our institutions. We have a better chance of assessing the character of would-be leaders, compare notes with people we trust.

        Semper paratus.
ALL the way, nitty-gritty. That’s our responsibility here. Just as it is the responsibility of each Brit, each Canadian.

        – How do you wake people up?
        – You can never wake a person pretending to be asleep.

Mr. Sharansky always stressed that the Jewish Agency should do everything possible to rescue those who seek our help. We don’t COMPEL people to emigrate because WE think it’s in THEIR interest.

We try to give them the best possible information, assure them of our support – and its limits – but we must never SCARE them into making the decision we think is correct.

Paul Oakley is a London barrister who’s also been a member of the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) leadership since 2011. In No-One Likes Us, We Don’t Care he has given us a brisk, gossipy, whimsical diary of these years, during which a small pack of Brexiteers who were alternately dismissed and demonized by the British political and media establishment soared in influence – a process that climaxed in the stunning referendum of June 23, 2016 – only to lose its high-profile leader, Nigel Farage, and, as Brexit itself stumbled, plunge back into insignificance, after which, under Gerard Batten, it began a turnaround that’s still in process, even as the fate of Brexit remains in question.

An ardent opponent of Brussels rule – he proudly boasts of burning the EU flag and tearing the Maastricht Treaty in two at a conference – Oakley tells a rollicking story of political infighting, personality conflicts, organizational screw-ups, negative press, dull meetings, thrilling speeches, endless hours of conversations (and dart games) in pubs, good and bad polls, good and bad election results, sex scandals, financial scandals, scandals that pop up because some party flack said something that some reporter considered homophobic or xenophobic or racist, defections by Tories (beginning with Oakley himself) to UKIP, and, later, defections (not many) by UKIP members to Anne Marie Waters’s newly formed For Britain Party.

Oakley (who uses many an obscure Briticism – “scrote,” “cocked up,” “nous,” “nick,” “grass me up,” etc. – that will send American readers running for the OED) offers sketches of fellow pols whose names many Brits will presumably recognize but that will mean nothing to most Yanks. We see Oakley (dubbed by one party colleague as “the Simon Cowell of UKIP”) being sucker-punched by some jerk, harassed by police for handing out leaflets, frustrated by his inability to get through to an audience of schoolgirls who’ve been transformed into pro-EU zombies, and striving desperately to grow the party while also keeping an eye out for newbies who are, in fact, nutjobs. (Like churches, political parties attract kooks who’ve finally found someplace from which they can’t easily be kicked out.) At one point Oakley seems to be a shoo-in for the European Parliament, but balloting hijinks deny him his seat.

  32. How a US Citizen May Soon Control Libya
The fascinating rise to power of a CIA asset and ISIS hunter.
    May 14, 2019
    Victor Soehngen

As evermore congressional hearings dominate American headlines, a shadowy leader and a massive new offensive are quietly engulfing Africa’s most oil-rich country. In a place already marred by violence, this is different. The new operation began in March and is both larger and better coordinated than anything since the 2011 revolution. Having already secured the nation’s largest oil terminals, A force of 60,000 well-equipped men are now attacking the gates of Tripoli, threatening the UN-backed government forces defending the city. If their successful, this could dramatically change the balance of power and US interests in the region.

Much of the world seems split on the situation or unaware it is happening. Egypt, the UAE, and Moscow are supporting the offensive. France and Italy- whom both have competing oil interests in Libya- have divided the EU on the matter. The UN has predictably condemned the offensive but offered no tangible solution. Meanwhile, the State Dept called for an “immediate halt to these military operations against the Libyan Capital” the same week as President Trump praised the leader behind it.

The attack is being led by a former CIA asset and US citizen with a storied past. He is someone that Al-Qaeda has called “an enemy of Islam”. An old Gadhafi loyalist turned revolutionary and cunning enemy to ISIS. The polarizing figure who has helped both unify and divide modern Libya. He is managing to attack an internationally recognized government with Russian weapons and the complicity of everyone else- but who is he?

A man long prepared to exploit the chaos: “Field Marshall “Khalifa Haftar.

      Arab Spring: the Second Coming?

The current instability in Algeria, Sudan and Libya has led to some excited western media coverage heralding a second chapter of the Arab Spring. Those celebrating should be careful what they wish for. The Arab uprisings of 2010-11 and the subsequent years began with great hope but with the partial exception of Tunisia, left only strife, war and state fragmentation in their wake.

One can only wish the protestors much luck, while noting that the record suggests that societies lacking civil society traditions and institutions are unlikely to achieve better governance through mass action.
