“French business owners in the city of Montpellier are calling on local government to provide increased security, arguing that violence has increased markedly during the Ramadan month over the last four years.
The business owners all operate in the neighbourhood of Gambetta and say that when Ramadan comes every year, they see an increase of violence that could negatively affect their businesses, French local news network Actu reports.
Local businessman Ajouri M. explained the problem saying, “for four years now at the same time during the holy month of Ramadan, the Gambetta neighbourhood is the scene of violence and extraordinary tensions. And Ramadan is coming for a month.”
He went on to explain that the neighbourhood often sees stabbings, exchanges of gunfire and violent altercations and although police do respond to the incidents, he claimed that the perpetrators come back as soon as the officers leave.
According to the businessman, he and several others have been in direct contact with Montpellier Mayor Philippe Saurel to discuss increasing security in the area.
The group met with municipal police chief Georges Elnecave with Ajouri M. saying it had been a “quick and positive meeting since a solution has been found. It consists of setting up a pedestrian crew of the municipal police, who will patrol from early afternoon to sunset on the Cours Gambetta, in order to protect the population and avoid any slippage and violence similar to those experienced in previous years.”
Violence across the Muslim world during the holy month, sometimes referred to as “Ramadan Rage“, has been linked to terror attacks and other violent incidents year after year.
In 2017, 3,343 people were casualties of violence during the holy month as a result of Islamic-linked violence with 1,639 killed in attacks. The following year thankfully saw a drop in the number of fatalities to 841, while the total number of casualties was down 45 per cent to 1,855.”

The Swedish Armed Forces have launched a new recruitment campaign billed to “challenge the image of those who fit in”.
The tax-financed “Come as You Are” campaign video features black women, Arabs, and people wearing overtly feminist messages.
“You who think you don’t fit in. Come. You who believe in everyone’s equal value. Come. You who are feminist, realist, optimist, who were born in another country. Come”, the narrator declares.
The campaign poster features a woman in uniform sporting a feminist earring. “Welcome to an inclusive workplace where we see each other’s differences as a strength”, the Swedish Armed Forces explain.
The campaign, which is the latest in a line of increasingly politically correct enterprises including pro-LGBT campaigns and Pride parades, has caused strong reactions.
“I feel more insecure than ever after watching this video”, a user commented on Youtube.
“Who defends Sweden from the Swedish Armed Forces?” another one smirked.
“Don’t come if you are a man. Swedish Defence 2019”, yet another user grinned.
On Twitter, critical reactions abounded as well. While some pointed out that the motto reminds them of Nirvana’s 1991 hit, others went on to mercilessly mock the Swedish defence.
“Hi. I would like to become an underwater commando but I wonder how it will be with my blind dog and walker?” a user joked.
“I have a clinical fear of mattresses and I have breathing troubles when I get into conflicts, especially with exotic fruits nearby. I am also a very trigger-happy person, but not so good at aiming and can be a big danger with weapons in hand. May I join?” another user laughed.
Others went on to mock the perennial enemy picture pained by the Swedish media and army bosses.

“That is the defence’s new secret strategy. Should the Russians decide to strike and begin to invade, when the Russian Spetsnaz views this motley crowd, then the enemy stops in fear and turns home”, another one mocked the “Russian threat” trumped up by the Swedish defence.
The Swedish Armed Forces number about 20,000 active personnel. After briefly toying with a volunteer-based army, they resumed conscription.

Her conviction was overturned last year by the Supreme Court.
She was originally convicted in 2010 after being accused of insulting the Prophet Muhammad in a row with her neighbours.
Asia Bibi has always maintained her innocence in a case that has polarised Pakistan.
Pakistani government officials did not reveal her destination, or say when she left.

Asia Noreen – commonly known as Asia Bibi – was kept at a secret location while arrangements were made for her to leave the country.

What was she accused of?
The trial stems from an argument Asia Bibi had with a group of women in June 2009.
They were harvesting fruit when a row broke out about a bucket of water. The women said that because she had used a cup, they could no longer touch it, as her faith had made it unclean.
Prosecutors alleged that in the row which followed, the women said Asia Bibi should convert to Islam and that she made offensive comments about the Prophet Muhammad in response.
She was later beaten up at her home, during which her accusers say she confessed to blasphemy. She was arrested after a police investigation.
Acquitting her, the Supreme Court said that the case was based on unreliable evidence and her confession was delivered in front of a crowd “threatening to kill her”.
Why was her case so divisive?
Islam is Pakistan’s national religion and underpins its legal system. Public support for the strict blasphemy laws is strong.
Hardline politicians have often backed severe punishments, partly as a way of shoring up their support base.
But critics say the laws have often been used to exact revenge after personal disputes, and that convictions are based on thin evidence.
The vast majority of those convicted are Muslims or members of the Ahmadi community who identify themselves as Muslims but are regarded as heretical by orthodox Islam.
Since the 1990s scores of Christians have also been convicted. They make up just 1.6% of the population.
The Christian community has been targeted by numerous attacks in recent years, leaving many feeling vulnerable to a climate of intolerance.
Since 1990, at least 65 people have reportedly been killed in Pakistan over claims of blasphemy.

The security services suspect that members of the detained family are part of a terrorist cell, according to the Bild newspaper.

The White House formally asserted executive privilege over special counsel Robert S Mueller III’s report Wednesday, President Trump’s first use of the executive authority in the latest confrontation with Congress.
Assistant Attorney General Stephen E. Boyd wrote in a letter to Congress that Trump had “asserted executive privilege over the entirety of the subpoenaed materials.” Boyd wrote that Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler’s push to hold Barr in contempt had “terminated” their negotiations over what materials lawmakers would be allowed to view from Mueller’s investigation.
“As we have repeatedly explained, the Attorney General could not comply with your subpoena in its current form without violating the law, court rules, and court orders, and without threatening the independence of the Department of Justice’s prosecutorial functions,” Boyd wrote.
The White House assertion of privilege represents the latest collision between Trump and House Democrats, who have seen their investigations of the president blocked at every turn.
The White House move came shortly before the House Judiciary Committee planned to vote to hold Attorney General William P. Barr in contempt for failing to provide the full Mueller report.

Baltimore City Hall Computer Network Infected With Ransomware Virus, Officials Say
BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Baltimore City Hall government servers have been infected by a ransomware virus that government officials said is spreading throughout their network.
Mayor Jack Young released a statement confirming the issue.
He said at this time no personal data has left their system.

Wealth, estate taxes won’t cover all 2020 Democratic proposals. Levies that hit middle class could be on the progressives’ menu.
Democratic presidential hopefuls are talking a big game about taxing the rich to pay for social programs.
Some ideas they’ve proposed so far—such as Senator Bernie Sanders’s plan to expand the estate tax, Senator Elizabeth Warren’s idea to impose an annual wealth tax on millionaires, or Senator Kamala Harris’s intention to repeal the Republican tax cuts—would raise some new tax revenue that Democrats would need to expand the social safety net. But Democrats will need trillions more to pay for key portions of some of the favored policy promises, including universal health care or free college tuition.
There are dozens of options of how to do that that haven’t yet been seriously discussed this cycle. Some potential revenue makers—such as increasing taxes on banks and hedge fund managers—are likely to be popular with many Democratic voters. But other proposals, such as introducing a carbon tax or eliminating a popular tax break for homeowners are likely to be less so, and could force a conversation in the party about what people might be willing to pay for a progressive agenda.

DC-area radio station told to register as Russian agent
The owner of a Washington, D.C., area radio station that broadcasts Sputnik International 24/7 has been ordered to register his Florida-based broadcasting company as a Russian federal agent.
WTOP-FM reports Judge Robin Rosenburg ruled Tuesday that RM Broadcasting must register with the U.S. government. RM and a Russian government-owned news agency agreed in 2017 that the station would broadcast the agency’s communications continuously without edit until 2021.
Federal agents told RM in 2018 that the station was acting as a “publicity agent” for the Russian agency. It said RM would need to register as a foreign principal under the Foreign Agents Registration Act of 1938, originally adopted to fight Nazi propaganda. RM asked the court to rule on the matter, arguing that it only buys and resells airtime.

New Jersey Politician Wants To Ban All Bags—Paper or Plastic
The Garden State’s plan to ban all grocery store bags could have negative consequences for consumer convenience and the environment.
In August 2018, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, a Democrat, vetoed a bill that would have imposed a five-cent fee on both paper and plastic carryout bags, arguing that the legislation did not do enough to protect the Garden State’s famed natural beauty.
“Single-use carryout bags—particularly plastic bags—represent a significant source of the litter that clutters our communities and mars New Jersey’s beautiful shoreline and parks,” wrote Murphy in his veto statement. “Instituting a five-cent fee on single-use bags that only applies to certain retailers does not go far enough.”
State legislators have clearly heard this message, floating proposals to ban not just plastic grocery bags, but all single-use bags—paper or plastic.
Working its way though the legislature right now is S2776. As written, the legislation would ban food service businesses and other retailers who have stores larger than 1,000 square feet from providing their customers with plastic bags. The bill would also naturally ban plastic straws.

Pressure builds for FTC to punish Zuckerberg
Pressure is growing for federal regulators to hold Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg personally accountable for his company’s string of privacy scandals.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is wrapping up a long-running investigation into Facebook over its data practices and is expected to levy a multibillion-dollar fine. But a report from The New York Times said that a rift has opened at the agency over whether to also hold executives like Zuckerberg liable in any enforcement action.
Last month, Facebook told investors that it’s expecting to pay a fine as high as $5 billion to settle the FTC’s investigation into its privacy practices. That sort of sum would be the largest fine ever leveled against a tech company in the U.S. — more than 200 times the record $22.5 million penalty Google received in 2012 for allegedly deceiving users about its privacy practices.

Police Union: LAPD Officers Contracted Staph Infection After Homeless Person Came Into Station
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — Three Los Angeles Police Department officers have been infected with a highly contagious staph infection after what a union official says was an encounter with a homeless person at a police station.
The outbreak started sometime within the last week at the LAPD West Valley station in Reseda when officers arrested a transient and was brought to the station, which has since undergone cleaning of all surfaces to stop the MRSA from spreading.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said in a May 8, 2019 address that aired on IRINN TV that, in keeping with the decision of the National Security Supreme Council, he sent letters to the leaders of the five countries remaining in the JCPOA announcing that Iran will stop selling surplus heavy water and surplus enriched uranium to a “certain country” in a gesture to allow the five countries to enter negotiations with Iran surrounding oil and banking.
He explained that Iran has been selling surplus heavy water in excess of 130 tons to a “certain country,” and that any enriched uranium in excess of 300kg has been sold to a “certain country” in exchange for yellowcake.
Rouhani stated that if an agreement is not reached within 60 days, Iran will no longer abide by the JCPOA’s enrichment limit of 3.67%, and it will resume building the Arak heavy water reactor according to pre-JCPOA construction plans.
Rouhani also stated that there will be an additional 60-day extension during this second phase, after which further actions would be taken.
Rouhani said that the letters warned that if the five countries send the dossier back to the Security Council, they will face a “very decisive measure,” which he said he elaborated upon in the letters.
He then reminded Iran’s friends that if Iran hadn’t “played its role,” terrorists would be walking around European capitals, immigrants would have flooded into Europe, and large amounts of drugs would be passing through Europe.
He added that the JCPOA had been a win-win agreement, and that if it becomes a win-lose agreement like he said the U.S. wants, Iran will turn it into a lose-lose agreement.
Iran moving ballistic missiles by boat, US officials say
Washington (CNN)Intelligence showing that Iran is likely moving short-range ballistic missiles aboard boats in the Persian Gulf was one of the critical reasons the US decided to move an aircraft carrier strike group and B-52 bombers into the region, according to several US officials with direct knowledge of the situation.
The concerns over the movement of the missiles was one of multiple threads of intelligence from various sources that led the US to believe Iran had a capability and intention to launch strikes against US targets.
On Tuesday US Central Command spokesperson Capt. Bill Urban said they had seen “indications that Iranian and Iranian proxy forces were making preparations to possibly attack US forces in the region.”

Pakistan shrine explosion kills at least 9 people, including police

At least nine people are dead and dozens more are injured, following an explosion outside a religious shrine in Pakistan.
According to local media, the blast happened Wednesday outside the Data Darbar shrine in the Pakistani city of Lahore.
Hundreds of people were around the shrine during the explosion, but the attack was reportedly targeting police forces nearby.

“French police in the city of Nîmes say they have arrested a man in connection to a particularly vulgar church attack that occurred in February in which the suspect smeared faeces on the wall of the church.
Police say they arrested a 21-year-old man who they have not formally identified in connection with the church attack, saying they expect him to be the person behind the smearing of faeces on the walls of the Notre-Dame des Enfants church back in February of this year, 20 Minutes reports.
The attack occurred between the night of February 5th to the morning of the 6th and, according to 20 Minutes, saw one or more individuals break into the church and destroy the tabernacle as well as smear excrement on the walls of the church.
Robert Wattebled, Bishop of Nîmes commented on the incident shortly after it occurred saying, “The sign of the cross and the Blessed Sacrament have been the subject of serious injurious actions. This act of profanation hurts us all in our deepest convictions.”
The attack was only one of at least nine attacks that occurred in February within an eleven day period including the vandalism of a church in the commune of Maisons-Laffitte and a church in Tarn which also saw the perpetrators attempt to set the place of worship on fire. Two teens were eventually arrested in connection with the Tarn church attack.
Last month it was revealed that a 41-year-old Pakistani migrant will face trial for another church attack which took place in the Saint-Denis Basilica, the home of the tombs of many former French Kings, earlier this year. The Pakistani man is accused of smashing stained glass windows and doing severe damage to the organ located within the building.
A report from the French Ministry of the Interior claimed that as many as 1,063 Christian sites were vandalised in 2018, an average of around three per day.”

The Hungarian Helsinki Committee said Wednesday that the deportation of a third Afghan family is on hold for now after they secured an interim ruling in their favor at the European Court of Human Rights.
The deportations began Tuesday night with the expulsion of a family of six through a gate on Hungary’s border fence.
Both expelled families were taken to a center for asylum-seekers in the northern Serbian city of Subotica.
Hungary, which greatly tightened asylum procedures last year, rejected the families’ asylum requests and gave them the choice of being expelled to Serbia or being flown back to Afghanistan.”

The National Crime Agency (NCA) revealed the two women and 38 men from Sheffield, Rotherham, Leeds, Dewsbury and Maidstone were questioned over historic sexual abuse and exploitation of victims as young as 11, alleged to have taken place between 1997 and 2015.
All suspects arrested or interviewed since March in relation to the NCA probe have been released or bailed pending further enquiries, detectives said in a press release.
Spokesman Carl Vessey-Baitson said: “Arresting such a large number of individuals, as part of one Stovewood sub-operation, shows our desire to listen to victims and bring offenders to justice is not wavering.
“Stovewood is a challenging and complex investigation, with victims and survivors reliving abuse that took place many years ago.
“To date we have engaged with over 410 victims and survivors and have arrested or interviewed by appointment 94 suspects, meaning this is the largest law enforcement investigation into non-familial child sexual abuse and exploitation ever undertaken in the UK.

Operation Stovewood was launched in 2014 following the publication of the Jay Report — an independent inquiry which revealed authorities in South Yorkshire including the police, social services and Labour-controlled local council had turned a blind eye to the sexual exploitation, trafficking and rape of more than 1,400 mainly working-class white girls out of concern that taking action against their mostly-Pakistani abusers would harm so-called community relations.
Six trials relating to Stovewood investigations have been held so far, resulting in more than a dozen men jailed, while detectives at the NCA have identified 1,523 victims affected by the systematic grooming and abuse which took place in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013.”

“The imam of the infamous An’Nur mosque in the Swiss city of Winterthur has been deported from the country after Somalia recognized him as a citizen and agreed to take him back.
The imam, who was sentenced to an 18 month suspended sentence in 2017 for preaching hate and calling on worshippers to enact violence against non-believers, was not cooperative with Swiss authorities when they attempted to determine which country he had originally come from, radio broadcaster RFJ reports.
Later that year, authorities rejected the 25-year-old’s asylum application and initially determined that he had originally come from Ethiopia but after intense investigations, the Swiss authorities were able to determine he was in fact a Somali national.
In late February of 2018, the imam was released from deportation detention whereupon he fled the country and was eventually captured in Germany and then taken back to Switzerland to once again be held for deportation.
The An’Nur mosque has become infamous as a place of Islamic radicalisation in the city of Winterthur, with German-Pakistani undercover journalist Shams Ul-Haq claiming it had been the most radical of hundreds of different mosques he had visited across Switzerland, Austria and Germany.
In 2015, Swiss journalist Kurt Pelda also linked the radical mosque to those who travelled or attempted to travel to the Middle East to join terrorist groups like the Islamic State.
“A man from Winterthur became radicalized in the last few months and recently travelled to Syria,” he said and added, “We do not know exactly what he has done in Syria but there is every indication it has to do with ISIS… ISIS has a cell in Winterthur in the An’Nur mosque, let there be no doubt.”
Following the revelations of the links to radical Islamic extremism, the city of Winterthur set up an anti-radicalisation centre in the city aimed at teaching both social workers and teachers how to spot the signs of radicalisation.”

“Taxi drivers in the French capital have been avoiding some of the areas of the city where many migrants live on the streets so as not to “shock” tourists coming into the city.
The drivers who pick up tourists from Roissy airport told French news outlet 20 Minutes that the purposely avoid areas where homeless migrants live in makeshift tent camps as to not give the tourists a bad initial impression of the city, with one driver named Mordi commenting: “The first image tourists have when arriving in Paris, the most beautiful city in the world, are the tents, refugees, drug addicts.”
“When I can, I avoid at most to go through the Porte de la Chapelle,” the 53-year-old, who has been driving tourists from both of the city’s major airports for over 30 years, said and added, “For a year, I prefer the Porte de Clichy or the Porte d’Asnières, especially at night.”
“When I really have no choice, I go through the Porte de la Chapelle, but I see that the tourists are not reassured, that they are afraid. Me too… There is a certain aggressiveness of people on the street. It’s not nice for anyone,” he said.
Another driver named Djamel said he had also avoided the area for over a year saying, “people try to open the door, break the window. This is not [good] for our customers, especially tourists who come to discover Paris. Before the situation was bad, now it’s dangerous.”
Porte de La Chapelle has been a major hub of migrants and has been the home of various makeshift tent cities that have been cleared several times by local authorities in 2017 and in 2018 plans were announced to evacuate the area, along with other makeshift camps across the city, again.
The Porte de la Chapelle area has become dangerous even for those working to help the migrants living on the streets. In July of last year, the group Solidarité Migrants Wilson was forced to cease operations in the area due to aggression from drug-addicted migrants.
Not all the taxi drivers say they avoid the area, 37-year-old Oliver said he does the opposite saying, ” Yes, poverty is scary, sad, and it gets worse, but I keep going and I explain to tourists the situation, the context.”
“Overall, Europeans are aware but Americans do not understand that we can let that happen. But it does not outrage them more than that. There may be a fear, but I try to reassure them,” he said.”
BREITBART – NYT: Trump ‘Siding with Autocrats’ by Weighing Terror Label for Muslim Brotherhood
U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration would be “siding with autocrats and roiling [the] Middle East” if it joins several Islamic countries in designating the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) a terrorist organization, the New York Times (NYT) argued this week.
NYT has itself in the past sided with several leftist leaders including Russia’s Joseph Stalin in lying about the Soviet genocide; with Cuba’s Fidel Castro in inflating the size of his guerrilla prior to the Cuban Revolution; and taking money for ads from socialist Nicolás Maduro’s regime.
The Trump administration has been considering labeling MB a terrorist group since soon after taking office in January 2017.
NYT has joined opposition to the move expressed by the likes of Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), which leads the world in jailed journalists.
On Monday, the Times argued that designating the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization would “ignite a firestorm in the Middle East,” adding:
Government lawyers had warned that the Muslim Brotherhood did not meet the legal criteria to be designated a terrorist organization. And in a volatile region where American troops were already battling Islamist extremists, the three men believed, taking on the Brotherhood was one fight too many.
The newspaper goes on to note that Trump officials who opposed labeling MB a terror group – namely former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, former Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson, and Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, the president’s former national security adviser – are now gone.
Their departure has reportedly opened the door for “autocratic leaders” like Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt to influence the U.S. to move forward with the designation.

The Trump administration has resurrected the proposal to brand the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization, prompting a fierce debate between the government’s political appointees and its career experts.
The designation would impose wide-ranging American economic and travel sanctions on companies and individuals who interact with the loose-knit Islamist movement that was founded in Egypt and is recognized as a legitimate political entity in many Muslim-majority governments.
It is the president’s latest major foreign policy decision that appears to have been heavily influenced by autocratic leaders without first being fully vetted by career American government officials.
NYT identified the “autocratic leaders” as Sisi, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), all of whom have already outlawed MB in their respective countries.
The newspaper said those leaders “revile” MB simply because they consider the group a political opponent.
Several Muslim-majority countries — Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, and Egypt — and Russia have already outlawed MB.
Qatar, which has long housed the group, and Turkey appear to remain ardent supporters.
Nevertheless, the Washington Post (WaPo) argued on Monday that “calling the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist group would make all Muslims scapegoats.”
In December 2017, MB threatened to “wage war” against the United States in response to Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and move the American embassy there, a move that angered several Muslim countries and jihadi groups like al-Qaeda and the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL).
For NYT, that is not reason enough to label the group terrorists. On the contrary, the paper claimed that “unlike the Islamic State or Al Qaeda, there is no evidence that the Egyptian group has called for, or directed, terrorist attacks against American interests.”
Critics have linked the NYT to anti-semitism in recent weeks. Citing unnamed Trump officials, the news outlet noted that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and John R. Bolton, the current national security adviser, have expressed support for the terrorist designation for MB.
The U.S. has already designated top MB offshoot Hamas, a Palestinian group intent on destroying Israel, a terrorist organization.
NYT did not identify the so-called opponents of the designation within the Trump administration.
“Beyond Turkey and Qatar, the Brotherhood or offshoots are also a recognized political party or represented in governments in Morocco, Mauritania, Tunisia, Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait,” it reported.
The newspaper acknowledged that officials under former President Barack Obama also considered naming MB a terrorist group. NYT, however, did not accuse of Obama of “siding with autocrats” over the consideration as it has with President Trump.
For years, some Republicans in Congress have been proposing the label.

“Most plastics were never made to be recycled,” said lead author Peter Christensen, a postdoctoral researcher at Berkeley Lab’s Molecular Foundry, in the statement. “But we have discovered a new way to assemble plastics that takes recycling into consideration from a molecular perspective.”

An Arab pro-democracy activist says he was whisked away to safety by officials in Norway, where he lives, after being told of a threat from Saudi Arabia.
Iyad el-Baghdadi told the BBC he believed the threat was related to his work on Saudi human rights projects.
According to the Guardian newspaper, information about the threat came from the CIA, which then notified Norway.
“If they don’t want to kill me, then I’m not doing my job,” he wrote on Twitter, after the news came to light.
The Palestinian author and blogger is outspoken on the social media platform, often criticising leaders in the Middle East.
This includes Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, whose aides have been accused of ordering the murder of Saudi journalist and critic Jamal Khashoggi, inside the kingdom’s consulate in Istanbul last year.

Anyone with even a remotely limited amount of logic knows that forced labor is slavery. Concentration camps and Russia’s Gulags were two examples until democrat and presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg decided to endorse forced labor in the USSA.
While complaining to MSNBC‘s Rachel Maddow about what he sees as the United State’s lack of “social cohesion,” Buttigieg called for one year of national service as a solution. A Baltimore TV anchor was ousted days after she received backlash for asking a question surrounding the race, gender and leadership abilities of the city’s recent mayors that some viewers deemed “racist and sexist.”
Mary Bubala, the anchor for CBS affiliate WJZ-TV’s 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. newscasts, no longer worked at the television station as of Monday, four days after her question to Loyola University Maryland professor Karsonya “Kaye” Wise Whitehead led to a firestorm of criticism, the station’s manager Audra Swain told the Baltimore Sun.
Bubala confirmed her departure in a Facebook post Tuesday and said the station she’s worked at since 2003 was “forced” to let her go.
“In my 22 years of working in TV news in Baltimore – 15 of those years with WJZ – I have always treated people with the utmost respect and dignity. I loved my job because I loved the people of Baltimore,” Bubala wrote in the post. “…Unfortunately, I now stand in the path of the tornado. WJZ was forced to let me go. I am saddened and shocked by this decision. Baltimore City has been my home for 25 years and I treasure and am so grateful for the relationships I have made with the people of Baltimore during this time.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wants President Trump’s tax returns, and she’ll lock up anybody she has to in order to get them.
This morning, Pelosi warned Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin mayb e thrown in “a little jail down in the basement of the Capitol” if she doesn’t get what she wants.
“Could you hold the Secretary of Treasury Steven Mnuchin in contempt? Some Democrats have even raised the prospect of arresting the Treasury Secretary if he does not comply with congressional demands,” The Washington Post’s Robert Costa asked Pelosi.
“Well, let me just say we do have a little jail down in the basement of the Capitol,” she responded, prompting laughs.
“But if we were arresting all of the people in the administration, we would have an overcrowded jail situation, and I’m not for that,” she continued, drawing more chuckles.
Bloomberg reports Mnuchin’s goals could be “consumed” by protecting the President’s personal tax returns:
Steven Mnuchin’s job as Treasury secretary is to protect the value of the dollar. Now, he’s also protecting the most sought-after documents in America: President Donald Trump’s tax returns.
On Monday, Mnuchin is expected to hold off on House Democrats’ request to release Trump’s returns. It’s the first time a Treasury chief has had to juggle concerns about releasing a president’s personal information with other parts of the job: overseeing the $16 trillion Treasuries market, maintaining economic pressure on global threats, such as North Korea, and leading economic diplomacy with international counterparts.

And according to The Hill, Kavalec’s notes of the meeting – including this stunning admission – do not appear to have been provided to the House Intelligence Committee for its Russia probe, according to former Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA).
“They tried to hide a lot of documents from us during our investigation, and it usually turns out there’s a reason for it,” Nunes told The Hill’s Solomon, who notes that One member of Congress had transmitted the memos to the DOJ’s Inspector General, Michael Horowitz out of concern that the IG’s office had never seen it either.
The FBI has retroactively classified Kavalec’s notes on 4/25/2019, despite the fact that it was originally marked unclassified in 2016. It is set to “Declassify on 12/31/2041,” 25 years after the 2016 election.
