Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We muse use it while we can.

  1. News item on CNN, (on the moving banner at the bottom of the screen)
The Sri Lankan Government has asked the Muslims in Sri Lanka not to gather for
Friday prayers in solidarity with the Catholic Community, and against the terrorist attacks.

      • After the Sri Lanka Terror Attacks, Muslims Fear Backlash

What are the Muslims so afraid of? Haven’t their imams been preaching love and coexistence the entire time? Since, after all, everyone knows that Islam’s the religion of peace, right? [spit!]

Islam’s so peaceful that it certainly can’t be the sacred Koran that’s inciting this much hatred and violence. So what is it?

Without the slightest ideological prompting, do all Muslims just coincidentally happen to support violent destruction of the West? I’d sooner believe that beer case bottle counts were designed around three-shift work days.

So, again, just what is it these Muslims are so afraid of? If we Infidels have all been born Muslims (as they routinely insist) and must—even should force prove necessarybe dragged back into Islam’s withering embrace, why aren’t they unanimously celebrating and praising their (soon-to-be Phyrric) victories in France and Sri Lanka? This is a very important question.

Islam’s doctrine of Jahiliyyah and al-Insan al-Kamil means that—through these recent Atrocities and all history for that matter—Muslims merely have showered upon us Infidels the most revered and doctrinally sanctioned blessings to be had. What then, causes Muslims to be so hesitant about boasting of their munificence to us deplorables? (A question that can just as easily be framed for the Left.)

Now that Islam’s mask has so thoroughly slipped, why are Muslims suddenly slinking off into the night in fear of retribution? Could it be that everything isn’t what it seems?

What if all those prayer meetings involved listening to imams spew their near-unanimous hatred for all things kuffar? How should it be taken in if it turns out that the Koran is chockablock with explicit excitement to violence and hatred against all Unbelievers?

What if nearly everything about Islam that is projected externally only serves as window dressing to gull the unsuspecting? Should the weaponizing of trust and tainting of benefit-of-the-doubt be dismissed as trifling offenses?

How should people in France or Sri Lanka react upon discovering that BOTH Atrocities were specifically mandated by the Koran? Why is repayment in kind treated as something unimaginably barbaric when these constant Atrocities are committed for PERCEIVED (not real) offenses against Islam?

Perish the thought that anything ever should be done that genuinely offends Islam. Muslims everywhere would succumb in droves from epidemics of brain aneurysms and suffocation. If not in apoplectic rage, at least from throwing blue-in-the-face tantrums.

Any shrink worth paying money to yak at would venture that Sri Lankan Muslims know damn well they helped, sheltered, and cheered on the jihadists when those “Easter Believers” were slaughtered like sheep. Those who insist otherwise are made liars by the majority’s guilty behavior.

The Notre Dame Atrocity made clear that Islamic barbarity has no limits. Muslims who remain contentedly unaware—be it due to propaganda, incuriosity or ignorance, or even all three—are no longer entitled to any benefit of the doubt when they plead noninvolvement.

Too much damage has been done to Islam’s credibility by its own hand. Muslims take such obscene pleasure in perverting civilized traditions like benefit-of-the-doubt (e.g., boxcutters and the 911 Atrocity), that such niceties have to be withheld, if only as a matter of sheer survival.

Since their own culture nourishes and thrives upon murderous stress (intra- and extra-murally) Muslims fail abjectly at perceiving the intensely negative outcomes implied by their universal identity as malicious vectors. Their inbred deficit of foresight (i.e., lack of voluntary deferred gratification) makes it congenitally impossible for them to recognize the massive slough of despond resentment that is backing up—historically damned dammed by now-inappropriate civility.

Aside from those with the historic frame of reference required to parse these events, absolutely nobody is willing to admit that Islam is working without a net. Muslims cut away that meshwork from beneath themselves on a bright September morning back in 2001. Since that time, they have imbalanced everything around them to where their own highwire is beginning to tremble.

Blaming Islam’s bleeding victims for piling up around them and obstructing their freedom of movement isn’t just disgusting chutzpah: It’s an affront to human dignity which tends to make people temporarily disremember all mercy and set about dismembering such an insult to the living and dead alike.

Those who carry Islam’s water—or even just quietly cheer on its incessant outrages—will find themselves thrown out with the baby’s bath when Muslims finally get their clocks cleaned. Seeing Micron tried and executed solely for the charge of accessory to Notre Dame’s arson would be exceptionally satisfying. Even more so than the slow torture, medical revival, and then repeated slow torture of the actual perpetrators themselves. Although, admittedly, that would have to be a photo finish decision.

        • Seeing Micron tried and executed solely for the charge of accessory to Notre Dame’s arson would be exceptionally satisfying.

I think he has realized that this might be in his future, that is why he has said that political Islam is trying to secede from France.

          • … that is why he has said that political Islam is trying to secede from France.

Good luck with that shit. Blamestorming this late in the game doesn’t cut much ice. Especially after his blathering on about “accidents”, “electrical fires”, “chicken lips”, and “cigarette butts”.

If Micron had immediately come out and indicated deep suspicion that Notre Dame was connected to ALMOST ONE THOUSAND other French church desecrations, he might deserve life in prison without any possibility of parole.

He did no such thing and, instead, only made everything worse. Much, much worse.

          • … that is why he has said that political Islam is trying to secede from France.

Like the Paris skyline, things have changed and such niceties vanished forever last tax day.

The Gallic people know damn well that dismembering Marianne is not an option. And it’s up to them to stop acting like it is. Shall Paris be turned into another sectored and walled Berlin?

It’s time to fight or fuck fish or cut bait and the Muslims are gigging for frogs. This world’s biggest collectivist collective wine snob needs to wake up and smell the rich Corinthian leather French roast. It’s long past goûter to face the question squarely:

Who shall best trample out the grapes of wrath?

    • UK: Kingston Uni students deny extremist connection after link to Sri Lanka bomber

Students from Kingston University denied it has any links to radicalisation on Thursday after authorities found one of the Sri Lanka suicide bombers studied at the south London institute a decade ago.

Ruqaya, a Muslim student from Sri Lanka, said: “I’ve never heard of, like, radicalisation in Kingston University.”

She slammed the media for pointing fingers, arguing that “they just don’t know what to do, so they are just pointing at people to take the blame.”

The student then spoke of sectarianism in Sri Lanka and fears of retaliatory attacks on Muslims following the Easter bombings, noting that it is “really scary to be a Muslim in Sri Lanka. But I guess, we thought everything would have died down by now, but I guess it might come back again after this.”

One of the alleged Sri Lanka bombers, identified as Abdul Lathief Jameel Mohamed, is thought to have studied aerospace engineering at Kingston University between 2006 and 2007.

He is believed to be among nine suicide bombers who killed at least 359 people and injured a further 500 in a string of attacks on hotels and churches in Sri Lanka during the Easter weekend.

British intelligence agents are now probing connections Mohamed made in the UK to examine whether he could have been radicalised while studying at Kingston.

Kingston has been heavily criticised by former UK prime minister David Cameron, which he claimed was one of four UK universities that invited the most radical speakers to events.

Kingston has strongly denied Cameron’s claims.

Sri Lanka’s security forces seized a number of articles including oil drums, dynamite sticks and batteries during joint raids in the town of Samanthurai on Friday, five days after around 253 people were killed in bombings on Easter Sunday.

The raids were reportedly carried out by Sri Lanka’s police, Special Tasks Forces and Army, and among the items recovered were oil drums, wires and batteries alongside a flag of the so-called Islamic State.

On Friday, Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena said a house-to-house search of the entire country would be conducted to root out terrorists in the aftermath of Sunday’s attacks.

    • ASSOCIATED PRESS– Sri Lanka Muslims brave militant threats for Friday prayers

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) — At 12:10 p.m. Friday, men and boys in a Muslim neighborhood in Sri Lanka’s capital did something everyone had warned them not to do: They came together to pray.

Hundreds gathered at the Masjidus Salam Jumma mosque for their communal Friday prayers, one of many mosques that conducted services despite warnings of retaliatory violence.

And while praying through tears to Allah to help their fellow countrymen, all stressed one thing. The Islamic State-claimed Easter attacks targeting churches and hotels that killed at least 250 people came from people who didn’t truly believe the teachings of Islam.

They are “not Muslims. This is not Islam. This is an animal,” said Akurana Muhandramlage Jamaldeen Mohamed Jayfer, the chairman of the mosque. “We don’t have a word (strong enough) to curse them.”

Up until the call to prayer echoed through Colombo’s Maligawatta neighborhood at noon, it wasn’t certain the community would be able to pray. On Thursday, the U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka issued a stark warning over Twitter that places of worship could be targeted by militants through the weekend. Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe also told The Associated Press he feared some of the suspects “may go out for a suicide attack” and local authorities urged Muslims to pray at home.

But Friday prayers hold a special importance to Muslims as the Quran has its own chapter on the worship called “Al-Jumah,” or Friday in Arabic.

“When the call is made for prayer on Friday, hurry toward the remembrance of Allah, and leave all business,” the Quran commands.

For Muslims, Friday prayers means dressing in their nicest clothes and communing with others, often sharing a meal after listening to the imam and praying.

The day carries the same significance for Muslims in Sri Lanka, where Arab traders brought Islam in the 7th century. Today, nearly 10% of Sri Lanka’s 21 million people are Muslim.

In the hours before, community leaders decided that women should stay home for the prayers because of the threat. It remained unclear if they would hold the prayers, even as young men stopped in the mosque for a moment of quiet prayer, their sweat dripping from their brows as they bowed down on the purple-and-gray carpeting.

“Everyone is nervous,” said Abdullah Mohammed, 48. “Not just the Muslims. Buddhists, Christians, Hindus — everybody’s nervous.”

But as the time drew closer, they decided to hold them. Sri Lankan police officers armed with Kalashnikov rifles stood guard around the mosque, blocking the street. Organizers posted young volunteers to watch surrounding streets above the mosque, near a major cricket stadium.

Inside the mosque, a young man worked on its internal security cameras, one hanging above wooden carvings of Arabic calligraphy and copies of the Quran. Jayfer said they had been installed two years earlier, but they needed repair “given what’s happening.”

When the electronic clock struck 12:10 p.m., a caller got on the loudspeaker, saying “Allah akbar,” or God is great. Men and boys quickly filled two floors of the mosque and part of a third as Imam Mohamed Imran stood before them on the minbar, the pulpit from which he preached.

In English and later Tamil, Imran reminded the congregation they remain a minority in Sri Lanka, that they need to pray and ask for God’s help.

As the sermon ended, he offered a prayer, growing emotional as he asked for God for help. Several men in the congregation cried.

Then they bowed toward Mecca and its cube-shaped Kaaba, finishing their prayers and walking safely out of the mosque into the street below. A new sign in Sinhala hung by the mosque outside offered condolences, saying that just because the attackers had Arab names didn’t make them Muslims.

“It is our country. We are Sri Lankans,” Jayfer said. All “Sri Lankans have a duty to be calm and quiet. (There) has to be peace.”

Sweden’s highest court has overturned a decision to deport a convicted rapist after ruling there was no “extraordinary reason” to expel him from the country.
Two lower courts had ruled that the man, a 33-year-old Somali citizen, should be deported after serving a jail sentence for rape, but the Supreme Court overturned this decision while extending his jail sentence by four months. The reason for ruling against deportation was that his ties to Sweden were considered to be strong, although two of the five Supreme Court justices argued the seriousness of the crime outweighed this and that he should be expelled.

The man was first found guilty of rape by Linköping District Court, after he forced himself on a woman he did not know while they both stayed overnight at a mutual friend’s apartment.

He was found guilty based on witness statements from the victim and the apartment owner, as well as SMS messages and the fact his DNA was found on the victim.

That court initially sentenced him to one year and ten months in jail, followed by expulsion from Sweden and a ban on returning for the next ten years.

Perpetrators of serious crimes can be expelled from Sweden as part of their punishment if they do not hold Swedish citizenship. If the perpetrator has been resident in Sweden for at least five years, though, Swedish law dictates the court must find that there are “extraordinary reasons” for ordering a deportation.

“The seriousness of the crime should be taken into consideration, and as a guideline the crime should have a penalty of at least one year for it to be a question of deportation,” Lina Zettergren, a Judge Referee at the Supreme Court with responsibility for preparing the cases and presenting proposals for decisions, told The Local.

“But consideration should also be taken to the foreigner’s ties to Swedish society. In the judgment, consideration should be taken to factors such as living conditions, for example if the person has a property, is socially integrated, has learned Swedish, and so on, if the person has children and is in contact with them, if there are other family members, and the length of time the person has spent in Sweden,” Zettergren said.

“The idea behind the requirement of ‘extraordinary reasons’ [if the perpetrator has been in Sweden for over five years] is that there should be a point where a foreigner has the right to feel secure in Sweden. It’s a complete judgment where all factors are weighed up, and which factors are decisive depends on the circumstances in the individual case. If the foreigner has a strong tie to Sweden, typically a more serious crime is required for deportation to occur.”

The Swedish Code of Statutes. Photo: Sofia Tanaka / TT / SCANPIX

Asked whether any crimes were considered serious enough that non-Swedes would always be deported, Zettergren said each case was considered individually.

The perpetrator in the Linköping case had been living in Sweden with a residence permit for eight and a half years, and had no family in the country but had been working or studying for most of his time there.

A second ruling from the Göta Court of Appeal upheld the initial judgment by the district court, which had been appealed by the defendant. He said he should not be deported because he belonged to a “persecuted clan” in his home country, but the appeals court confirmed the deportation order.

The case was then taken to the Supreme Court, which found there was no reason to review the man’s guilt or the classification of the crime, but chose to allow an appeal of the deportation.

Unlike the two earlier courts, the Supreme Court found that the man’s ties to Sweden “do not appear especially weak”, and it therefore overturned the deportation order. The court’s decision is likely to set a precedent for other courts in Sweden.

READ ALSO: ‘Sweden needs to do more to convict rapists’: Amnesty report

In the ruling, the Supreme Court noted that the default position in cases where the defendant has lived in Sweden long-term should be not to deport them. Deportation should therefore only be carried out if the reasons in favour of deportation are significant and ‘extraordinary reason’ for deportation can be found.

A statement from the court said that the most important factor was the seriousness of the crime, and that murders or organized crime were examples of those which would likely be considered as “extraordinary reasons”. But the perpetrator’s background in Sweden was also a factor, so that a criminal who had lived in Sweden for a longer time, and/or had a family and connection to Swedish society would be less likely to be deported.

The court acknowledged in its ruling that there were “clear signs of flaws in his social adaptation to Sweden, partially through earlier criminal behaviour” including convictions for petty drugs offences, driving offences, and causing bodily harm. However, it also noted that he had been engaged in either studies, internships, or employment throughout his time in Sweden and had relatively good knowledge of the language, implying a strong tie to Sweden.

Sweden’s Supreme Court. Photo: Sofia Tanaka / TT / SCANPIX

On this basis, the court ruled that “there cannot be considered to be extraordinary reasons” to deport the perpetrator, and overturned the decision to deport him – despite two of the five court justices arguing that he should be deported.

The two justices with dissenting opinions argued that the seriousness of the crime itself was “a severe reason for deportation”, and judged this to be “much stronger than the circumstances that speak against deportation”.

The court extended the man’s jail sentence to two years and two months, and also ruled that he must pay the victim damages of 115,000 kronor (approximately $12,070). The victim told the Expressen tabloid that she considered the ruling “completely insane”.

Following Expressen’s report of the case, politicians from the far-right Sweden Democrats and right-wing Moderate Party criticized the decision via Twitter. Moderate MP Hanif Bali wrote that “obviously a law change is needed”, while Sweden Democrat Adam Martinnen wrote: “rape is an extraordinarily good reason for deportation, always”.

Asked whether the divided nature of the ruling implied a need for greater clarity in the law, the Supreme Court’s Lina Zettergren said that was a question for lawmakers.

Justice Minister Morgan Johansson, a Social Democrat, has repeatedly stated that the “main rule” in cases of foreign criminals should be that they face expulsion. Speaking to Expressen after the judgment on the Linköping case, Johansson said “we want to increase the opportunities to deport [non-Swedes] because of crime”.

Counter-terrorism officers arrest man, woman outside North Melbourne Anglican church

Counter-terrorism officers have arrested a man and a woman during an operation near an Anglican church in North Melbourne this afternoon.
A Victoria Police spokesperson said there was “no current or impending threat to the community” and two people were “assisting with inquiries”.

The heavily-armed officers, some carrying machine guns, arrived outside St Mary’s Anglican Church about 1:30pm.

ABC News Breakfast presenter Virginia Trioli, who was passing by, said the weapons being held by the officers “looked like they came out of Avengers: Infinity War”.

“They were pointing at a man on the ground and there was a woman who was on the opposite corner who was down on the ground with a security person overlooking her as well,” Trioli said.
Police offices dressed in black standing on a corner in North Melbourne.

She said a witness at the scene had told her the man was holding a backpack at arm’s length and officers had screamed at him to drop it.

“The whole operation took about an hour, then he was finally led away in a police car and he was handcuffed and in a white HAZMAT suit, and so was the woman as well, but they’d been kept separate all that time,” Trioli said.

She said both the man and woman had sat “passively” and quietly on the ground, not moving throughout the operation.

Police also retrieved several items during a search of a nearby flat.
    ‘They were holding machine guns’

Resident Thomas Langenheim said a Range Rover with flashing lights parked across part of the road next to the church shortly before the arrest.

“I saw two military-looking police people holding somebody at bay that was lying on the floor, and quite a few military people running around with machine guns,” he said.

“They were holding the machine guns and they had helmets on and fatigue jackets and they were just sort of standing over the person that they had on the floor.”
Mr Langenheim said he was not frightened but did consider whether the dramatic arrest outside the church was connected to the recent Christchurch mosque attacks and Easter Sunday Sri Lanka terror attacks.

“The whole series of events in New Zealand, Sri Lanka sort of all came to mind and I thought it might have been something to do with retribution,” he said.
    ‘No ongoing risk’

It is still not clear what sparked the operation.

In a joint statement, Victoria Police and the Australian Federal Police (AFP) said the “routine” operation was not linked to a specific incident and was part of the Melbourne Joint Counter Terrorism Team’s (JCTT) ongoing intelligence gathering.

“As part of this operation, a search was conducted at a residential property on Bedford Street,” the statement said.

“It is also not linked to any imminent threat and the community should be assured that there is no ongoing risk as a result of this operation.”

No charges had been laid, the statement said.

    https://www.breitbart.com/national-security/2019/04/26/islamic-state-women-terrorizing-refugees-in-syria-camps-while-waiting-to-come-home/

“Some women who joined the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL) as fighters, recruiters, and brides are trying to recreate the fallen caliphate from inside prison camps in northern Syria, the Associated Press (AP) reported this week.

The females, who appear to miss the now fallen Islamic emirate that once controlled large swathes of Iraq and Syria, continue to express their loyalty as they beg to be allowed back into their home countries.

At northern Syria’s al-Hol and Roj camps, overseen by the U.S.-backed Kurdish forces who recently took back the last ISIS-held territory, AP spoke to four women who traveled to the Middle East to join the group and “are now among tens of thousands of IS family members, mostly women and children, crammed into squalid camps.”

    AP reported:

The women say it was misguided religious faith, naivete, a search for something to believe in or youthful rebellion. Whatever it was, it led them to travel across the world to join the Islamic State group. Now after the fall of the last stronghold of the group’s “caliphate,” they say they regret it and want to come home.

Many in the camps remain die-hard supporters of IS. Women in general were often active participants in IS’s rule. Some joined women’s branches of the “Hisba,” the religious police who brutally enforced the group’s laws. Others helped recruit more foreigners. Freed Yazidi women have spoken of cruelties inflicted by female members of the group.

Within the fences of al-Hol camp, IS supporters have tried to recreate the caliphate as much as possible. Some women have re-formed the Hisba to keep camp residents in line, according to officers from the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces guarding the camp.

The news agency noted that women wearing the ISIS bride uniform — all-covering black robes and veils known as niqab — attempted to intimidate anyone who dared talk to journalists.

“Syria’s ambassador to the United Nations has blasted the United State and the European Union for imposing sanctions on his country, describing them as “economic terrorism.”

Bashar Ja’afari made his comments Friday in the Kazakh capital of Astana where Russia, Turkey and Iran held a new round of talks with the Syrian government and the opposition on steps to bring peace to the country.

His comments came as government-held parts of Syria are witnessing widespread fuel shortages that are largely the result of Western sanctions on Syria and its key ally Iran.

Ja’afari says: “This is economic terrorism that is escalating through unilateral economic measures.”

A final statement issued at the end of Astana’s 12th round rejected President Donald Trump’s formal recognition of Israel’s sovereignty over Syria’s occupied Golan Heights.”

  11. Migrant arrivals plunge in Spain after deals with Morocco (abcnews, Apr 26, 2019)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/migrant-arrivals-plunge-spain-deals-morocco-62651789

“Spain appears to have stemmed a surge in illegal migration that made it Europe’s main entry point for sea arrivals, after boosting joint efforts with neighboring Morocco to clamp down on the flow.

Spain, which holds a national election Sunday, saw nearly 60,000 people reach its shores irregularly in 2018, most from Morocco and West Africa. But sea arrivals plummeted in February and since then have remained at the lowest level in two years, Spanish statistics show.

While the migrant flow often fluctuates due to weather and other factors, an internal European Union report obtained by The Associated Press suggests intensified efforts to stop the migrants before they’re able to reach European waters are paying off.

“In the last four months, the increased cooperation between Spanish and Moroccan authorities has significantly contributed to decrease the illegal migratory flows towards Spain,” says the report, which was distributed to member states in March.

The report doesn’t specify what Morocco did to hold back migrants or what it got in return other than “explicit recognition and support” from the Spanish government and the EU’s executive Commission in Brussels.

The EU office dealing with relations with neighboring countries including Morocco declined to comment on the report but noted that the bloc has spent 232 million euros ($262 million) on migration-related projects with Morocco since 2014, mostly in border control and fighting smugglers.

More recently, Rabat received 36 million of a 148 million-euro emergency package approved by the EU in late 2018 to boost Morocco’s capacity to protect vulnerable migrants, address irregular migration and dismantle human smuggling networks.

In an election debate this week, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez stressed the need to reinforce cooperation with countries of origin and transit on the migrant trail to Europe. “It is what the government of Spain is doing with Morocco and with sub-Saharan countries,” he said.

Human rights experts warn that outsourcing Europe’s border control to North African countries creates a risk of human right violations. Amnesty International last year denounced a Moroccan crackdown on sub-Saharan migrants, including alleged mass roundups and expulsions without due process.

Alarm Phone, a network of activists behind a hotline for migrants in distress at sea, said it believed arrivals are down “due to repressive campaigns in Morocco and political developments in Spain that affect search and rescue operations” in waters around the narrow Strait of Gibraltar that separates the two countries.

In contrast with Italy’s hard line on migrants, Sánchez’s center-left government initially adopted a welcoming attitude, even granting safe harbor last June to a humanitarian rescue ship that was refused by Italy and Malta.

But as sea arrivals soared and Spain eclipsed Italy and Greece as the top destination for migrants entering Europe irregularly, the government quietly shifted its stance, mindful of the rise of the far-right Vox party, which in December won seats in the legislature of the southern Andalusia region. Vox is polling at over 10 percent ahead of the national election on Sunday.

Spain became reluctant to accept migrant ships from other parts of the Mediterranean and ordered the Spanish Maritime Rescue Service to stop the daily tweeting of migrant rescues off Spanish shores, keeping the subject off the front pages.

The Maritime Rescue Service declined to comment on whether it is also ceding the initiative for rescues to Moroccan authorities, in a break with years of practice. It said only it is in a “project funded by the European Union with the goal of increasing Morocco’s capacity of search and rescue.”

However, the main union representing Spanish rescuers this week said the Maritime Rescue Service is increasingly instructed to wait and let the Moroccan Coast Guard assist migrant ships in distress, even though it “has few means and limited experience regarding the rescuing of human lives at sea.”

In March, 45 people perished as their sinking dinghy waited to be rescued by the Moroccan authorities, 24 hours after the first distress call had been received by Spain. Moroccan vessels have a history of opening fire in attempts to intercept migrant boats, which last year resulted in the death of a 19-year-old woman.

Moroccan authorities did not respond to repeated requests for comment.

Overall the migrant flow to Europe has fallen sharply since 2015, when as many as 1 million entered the continent irregularly, mainly from Turkey to Greece. Border control deals struck with Turkey and later with Libya brought levels down considerably.

But traffic on the Western Mediterranean route increased, peaking in October last year with 11,000 sea arrivals in Spain. While numbers typically fall during the winter, they remained relatively high through January when 4,104 arrivals were recorded in Spain, but dropped 77 percent drop to just 936 in February. The number fell further in March, to 588, according to figures compiled by the International Organization for Migration, based on Spanish statistics.

In a written response to AP, Spain’s Interior Ministry said “satisfactory cooperation” with Morocco was behind the drop in arrivals, adding it had donated 75 vehicles for Moroccan authorities to use in border control.

The ministry also acknowledged that Spain has acted as an advocate for Moroccan interests in the EU, calling them “fair and fundamental to maintain security and coexistence in the Mediterranean Sea.”

Morocco and the EU recently agreed on a revised agriculture deal extending the Kingdom’s access to the European market and a controversial fisheries agreement involving disputed waters off the Western Sahara region. The deals were backed by the European Parliament in January and February, respectively.

Meanwhile, Spanish King Felipe VI visited Morocco in February, signing 11 bilateral agreements, including one that reinforced the collaboration between Spain and Morocco to fight terrorism, human trafficking and illegal migration, the Interior Ministry said.”

  12. Yemen’s al-Qaida branch vows revenge over Saudi executions (abcnews, Apr 26, 2019)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/yemens-al-qaida-branch-vows-revenge-saudi-executions-62649310

“Al-Qaida in Yemen is vowing to avenge beheadings carried out by Saudi Arabia this week — an indication that some of the 37 Saudis executed on terrorism-related charges were members of the Sunni militant group.

Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, as the branch is called, posted a statement on militant-linked websites on Friday, accusing the kingdom of offering the blood of the “noble children of the nation just to appease America.”

The statement says al-Qaida will “never forget about their blood and we will avenge them.”

U.S. ally Saudi Arabia on Tuesday executed 37 suspects convicted on terrorism-related charges. Most were believed to be Shiites but at least one was believed to be a Sunni militant.

His body was pinned to a pole in public as a warning to others.”

    https://www.upi.com/Top_News/World-News/2019/04/26/4711556281501/

“Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena on Friday promised an exhaustive search for nearly 150 people suspected in the Easter Day suicide attacks that killed hundreds.

Sirisena made the comments during a news conference, during which he said police are hunting for 140 potential suspects with ties to the Islamic State. The group has claimed responsibility for nine coordinated suicide bombings Sunday.

“[A] major search operation has been undertaken,” Sirisena said. “Every household in the country will be checked. The list of permanent residents of every house will be established to ensure no unknown persons could live anywhere.”

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said he feared some of the suspects may be plotting more suicide attacks. Authorities said they’ve arrested the second-in-command of the militant group National Towheed Jamaat. Its No. 1 leader, Mohamed Zahran, is believed to have died in one of the bombings Sunday that targeted three churches and three hotels.

Sri Lankan officials asked citizens of all faiths to pray privately this weekend, due to concerns of further attacks. Sri Lankan Minister of Postal Service and Muslim Religious Affairs Mohamed Hashim Abdul also urged Muslims against gathering in public Friday for the same reason.

Some mosques opened for mid-day prayers Friday, despite the call, and Catholic officials said services in the capital of Colombo will be suspended until Monday.”

    • the gateway pundit – Election Interference? Twitter Bans Tommy Robinson’s Campaign Account

Twitter has suspended the campaign account for citizen journalist Tommy Robinson’s independent bid for European Parliament.

While Robinson himself is banned from Twitter, the campaign account stated clearly that it was not run by the political hopeful personally.

The account had been flagged by a Muslim organization called Tell MAMA UK, whose website says that their aim is “tackling anti-Muslim hatred” and working with Central Government “to raise the issues of anti-Muslim hatred at a policy level.” They boast that their work “helps to shape and inform policy makers.”

Researcher Nick Monroe noticed that prior to the full ban, the account had already been shadowbanned on the platform.

“This is David vs Goliath. No one has ever won as an independent,” Robinson told supporters at a campaign event on Thursday. “Do you realize the shockwaves we will send across the world if we unite and vote?”

Robinson’s campaign website states, “if you elect me to the European Parliament, I’ll represent you, the working class of England. Whether it’s enforcing our borders and cutting back on immigration, or taking back our national sovereignty to make British decisions in Britain, or fighting to preserve our national identity against Islamification, I’m on the side of the people. 15. Blue State Blues: Republicans Cannot Win If ‘Ballot Harvesting’ Remains Legal

California Republicans are determined to take back the four congressional seats they lost in Orange County in 2018, among the seven the party lost statewide.
They have some political momentum, as Nancy Pelosi’s Democrats have proven incapable of doing anything except arguing about impeaching President Donald Trump.

Unfortunately, the tactic of “ballot harvesting,” introduced last November, has made it impossible for Republicans ever to win again.

“Ballot harvesting” involves using a third party, such as a well-trained political activist, to collect mail-in ballots on behalf of other voters and deliver them to the polls.

There is no vetting of ballot harvesters, and no limit to how many ballots they can deliver.

The tactic was legalized by then-Gov. Jerry Brown in 2016, over GOP objections. Hundreds of thousands of ballots were dropped off at polling places in 2018, making a difference in key races.

Democrats argue that ballot harvesting is necessary to ensure equal access to the polls — just like other innovations, such as early voting and same-day voter registration. They say that anything that makes it marginally harder to vote is undemocratic.

Democrats also accuse Republicans of trying to “suppress” the vote by pushing for safeguards to prevent fraudulent voting, such as requiring photo ID to vote or striking felons and non-citizens from voters’ rolls.

  16. Sanctuary Airports: Washington State Official Bans Deportation of Criminal Illegal Aliens

A Washington state official is banning federal immigration officials using the King County International Airport to deport criminal illegal aliens from the United States.
An executive order by King County, Washington, Executive Dow Constantine signed this week bans the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency from using the King County International Airport, commonly known as Boeing Field, to deport all illegal aliens from the country, including those convicted of crimes against Americans.

Constantine, in a statement, said his decision to ban ICE from using the airport to charter deportation flights of criminal illegal aliens is because King County “respects the rights of all people.”

“Here in King County, we are a welcoming community that respects the rights of all people,” Constantine said. “My Executive Order seeks to make sure all those who do business with King County uphold the same values.”

“Our goal is to ban flights of immigrant detainees from our publicly owned airport, and I hope members of Congress shine a light on this practice and how it is currently funded,” Constantine continued.

  18. Edinburg Mayor and wife arrested, accused of organized illegal voting scheme

EDINBURG, Texas (KXAN) — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced Thursday that the city of Edinburg’s Mayor Richard Molina and his wife Dalia Molina have been arrested by the Election Fraud Unit on charges of operating an organized illegal voting scheme for his mayoral election.

According to a release from Paxton’s office, Molina had voters change their addresses to locations they didn’t live, including an apartment complex Molina owned. This was done with the intent of having those residents vote for Molina in the November 7, 2017, Edinburg municipal election.

Paxton says that the scheme involved the help of paid campaign workers. Molina’s campaign won the 2017 election beating longtime incumbent Mayor Richard Garcia by 1,240 votes.

“My office is appreciative of the many witnesses who have come forward and cooperated with the investigation, explaining how they were lured by an ambitious candidate into participating in an illegal voting scheme to elect Richard Molina,” said Hidalgo County District Attorney Ricardo Rodriguez. “We encourage any additional witnesses who were pressured to engage in fraudulent voting in Molina’s election to step forward and cooperate with authorities. We’re prepared to present a full array of charges against Molina and his co-conspirators to the grand jury for a thorough evaluation of the evidence to ensure justice is served.”

An OC Transpo bus ad from an anti-abortion lobby group has raised the ire of two Ottawa councillors who are demanding the sign be removed.

The ad from Action Life Ottawa, recently seen on the back of city buses, reads: “1969-2019: More than 4 million abortions in Canada” and asks the questions, “Pregnant? Need help?” followed by a website and phone number to contact.

Councillors Catherine McKenney and Jeff Leiper said they have made an inquiry to the city about removing the ad, claiming that it violates Canadian advertising standards by being purposely misleading and affecting women’s health.

  21. More teachers attacked as school discipline curbed
By Hans Bader April 26, 2019

Record numbers of teachers are being physically attacked in America’s schools, as policies have changed to make it harder to suspend students who repeatedly defy their teachers.

    CNS News reports:

A record 220,300 public school teachers reported that they were physically attacked by a student during the 2015-2016 school year, according to a report jointly published this month by the National Center for Education Statistics and the Bureau of Justice Statistics.

The 220,300 public school teachers who said they were physically attacked by a student in 2015-2016 is up from the 197,400 who said they were attacked by a student in 2011-2012 (which is the last school year before 2015-2016 for which teachers were surveyed on the question).

Richard: Once again the radical left seeks equal outcome with everything in like occurring the same for everyone. If one racial group is being suspended for not following the rules you must follow the racial percentages in the population. Since the kids not following the rules don’t follow the racial percentages the only thing to do is stop punishing bad behavior.

Some of the people are doing this because they are stupid enough to not realize what they are doing. Others are pursuing the radical left goal of making the US society so chaotic that the nation is ungovernable, causing our government go collapse and allowing the radical left to impose a dictatorship.

  22. Strzok-Page texts: FBI snooping on Trump team via VP Pence’s former chief of staff?
    By J.E. Dyer April 26, 2019

In a letter to Attorney General William Barr, Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA) and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), chairmen of the Judiciary and Homeland Security Committees, ask Barr to answer questions about passages in the Strzok-Page text exchanges that the public is seeing for the first time. (The texts have been available in redacted form, but what we get here is a view behind some of the key redactions.)

The letter was sent Thursday 25 April 2019. But journalist Sara Carter, who broke the story, indicates she obtained the text messages on Tuesday (23 April), and had received related information last week. Carter reproduces most of the letter in her article, but it has apparently not been posted publicly at this point.

The gist of the story is that Peter Strzok and Lisa Page exchanged emails in November 2016 that suggested Strzok was in communication at the time with Joshua Pitcock, a long-time aide to (then) Vice President-elect Mike Pence who later became Pence’s chief of staff. Pitcock was a member of the Trump campaign staff in 2016, and then worked on the transition team.

The special feature of this connection is that Pitcock’s wife, referred to in the texts as “Katie,” was an FBI employee who until July 2016 had worked with Strzok on the Hillary Clinton emails investigation.

By Daily Caller News Foundation April 26, 2019

The Congressional Progressive Caucus’s two leaders could face civil and criminal penalties for omitting their membership on a dark money group’s board in their House financial disclosure statements, legal experts told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

The two co-chairs of the progressive caucus, Reps. Pramila Jayapal of Washington and Mark Pocan of Wisconsin, served on the board of the Congressional Progressive Caucus Center (CPCC) in 2017, according to the nonprofit’s 990 tax form from that year, the most recently available. But neither lawmaker disclosed their board position on their 2017 financial disclosure statements, as required by the House Committee on Ethics.

“These positions clearly were reportable. It seems pretty cut-and-dry to me,” a former general counsel to the National Republican Congressional Committee, Jessica Furst Johnson, told TheDCNF.

Sir Roger’s video on You Tube: “How to be a conservative”, is worth watching. https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/04/26/violent-crime-soars-19-in-england-and-wales-in-one-year-112-knife-crimes-a-day/

“Violent crime across England and Wales has risen by one fifth in one year, the latest figures show.

The new Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures show that in the year ending December 2018 violent crime rose by almost a fifth — 19-per-cent — with 1.6 million incidents reported, compared to 1.35 million the year before.

The numbers show that possession of bladed objects, incidents involving knives, robberies, and homicides all rose across the period.

Among the breakdown of the figures was a rise in knife crime, which itself was up six-per-cent, the highest level since comparable records began, with 40,829 incidents reported across England and Wales involving a knife or sharp object, an average of 112 every day.

Possession of a bladed or pointed object was up significantly, rising 20-per-cent to 20,958 recorded cases in the year.

Homicides were up in the year by six-per-cent to 732, their highest for a decade with four-in-ten involving a knife or sharp instrument. These figures do factor in the Manchester and London terrorist attacks from 2017, however. If those terror-related deaths are removed from the statistics, the rise in the number of homicides from 2017 to 2018 jumps to 12-per-cent.

There was also an 11-per-cent increase in robberies across the period.

In terms of the breakdown of locations, Merseyside saw the highest rise in knife-related crime. Wales was also badly affected with North Wales, South Wales and Dyfed Powys making up three of the top five areas to see the largest increase in knife-related crime.

London remains top in terms of overall figures, with 166 reported incidents of knife-related crime per 100,000 people. This is compared to the lowest on the list, Surrey, with only 5 instances per 100,000.

The latest statistics follow London-only figures from early April which claimed an average of 40 knife related incidents in the city every day, and a fatal stabbing every four days.”

She is also accused of being directly involved in policing services for the terror group.

The parents of her husband are also wanted by German police for aiding their son and the Islamic State, but neither has been arrested thus far.

    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/kosovo-president-called-hearing-turks-deportation-62654305

“Kosovo’s parliament has called the country’s president into a hearing on the secret deportation of six Turkish men who Turkey claims were supporters of an alleged 2016 coup attempt.

President Hashim Thaci on Friday questioned the credibility of the parliamentary investigative committee for involving an international expert. He declined to answer questions before clarifying the expert’s legality.

  32. McCain Family To Support Biden’s 2020 Campaign In A Bid To Remove Trump

The late Sen. John McCain’s family plans to support former Vice President Joe Biden’s White House bid, backing the Democrat not only in his party’s crowded primary race but also in a general election matchup with President Trump, the Washington Examiner has learned.

In an extraordinary snub to Trump, who derided McCain’s Vietnam War service and mocked him even after his death last August at age 81, the McCain family is preparing to break with the Republican Party. McCain represented the party in Congress for 35 years and was chosen as its presidential nominee in 2008, losing to Barack Obama.

Sources close to both Biden’s presidential campaign and the McCains said that at some point during the White House race, McCain’s widow Cindy, 64, and daughter Meghan, 34, a host on “The View,” will offer their public support in the hope of removing Trump from office in 2020.

  33. PBS PRAVDA- A French historian on how the Notre Dame fire should shape collective crisis response

Protesters took to the streets of Paris and other French cities over the weekend, asking why billionaires and the government have rushed to the aid of Notre Dame Cathedral instead of the millions of people confronting economic hardship.

French historian Stephane Gerson shares his humble opinion on how the crisis should shape collective responses to environmental destruction and forced migration.

  34. sputnik –Outrage as Danish Police Reportedly Instruct Islamists on Security

Hizb ut-Tahrir*, a radical Islamist organisation that seeks to establish a Sharia-based government, held a Friday prayer session near the Danish house of parliament in central Copenhagen in March.

When hard-line Islamists from Hizb ut-Tahrir held their controversial Friday prayer at Christiansborg Palace Square on 22 March, they had their own guards, who weren’t formally authorised.

According to the Danish news outlet Den Korte Avis, the guards, who wore vests labelled “security personnel”, had been instructed by the Copenhagen Police in a collaboration arranged in advance.

The news outlet cited a response from Conservative Justice Minister Søren Pape Poulsen to Martin Henriksen of the Danish People’s Party, who heads the Danish parliament’s Immigration and Integration Committee. According to Pape Poulsen, the Copenhagen Police considered it appropriate to “guide the applicant [Hizb ut-Tahrir] on any use of guards and security personnel in connection with the demonstration”.

Among others, the police stressed that security personnel must be approved officers from agencies authorised to carry out security work in public areas, but still instructed the demonstrators to wear visible vests marked “security personnel”.

In his question to Poulsen, Martin Henriksen inquired which security company was guarding the Friday prayer at the Christiansborg Palace Square and who had given them the permission, if it was not from an authorised security firm.

“It is most surprising that the Copenhagen Police have advised Hizb ut-Tahrir that their own guards must carry something that reminds of a uniform”, a dismayed Martin Henriksen told Den Korte Avis. “I am honestly shocked by the level of management at the Copenhagen Police, and I am deeply surprised that the justice minister has nothing to say about it”.

Martin Henriksen was present at the castle square, and he wondered:

“The so-called security staff behaved like guards. It is my clear view, and it is, in my opinion, untenable that Danish police advise a social subversive association on how they can bring their own guards to a Muslim Friday prayer in front of Christiansborg Palace. It’s just wrong no matter how you slice it. The police should have told Hizb ut-Tahrir that they will not accept their own private guards, regardless of how you choose to call them”, Martin Henriksen said, calling the situation “grotesque”.

Hizb ut-Tahrir is an international pan-Islamist organisation that aims to enforce a Muslim state governed by Sharia law. Estimations of its worldwide membership range between “several hundred thousand” and “over a million”. Despite being banned in the majority of Arab countries (with only a few notable exceptions), as well as in Russia, Germany, and China, the organisation remains active in vast parts of Europe. Denmark hosts Hizb ut-Tahrir’s Scandinavian headquarters.

The Danish People’s Party has spearheaded several attempts to ban Hizb ut-Tahrir as incompatible with democracy, earning the support of other parties.

“I clearly believe that Hizb ut-Tahrir should be banned if there is a basis for it”, Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen of the liberal-conservative Venstre Party said in March.

However, the Prosecutor General’s office has ruled that an outright ban would violate the provisions of the constitution pertaining to the freedom of expression.

  38. Rosenstein slams Obama administration for choosing ‘not to publicize full story’ of Russia hacking

Beleaguered Justice Department No. 2 Rod Rosenstein raised eyebrows Thursday night with a private speech in which he took a swipe at the Obama administration and slammed ex-FBI boss James Comey.

Rosenstein, the U.S. deputy attorney general who supervised the Mueller investigation, spoke out publically for the first time since the report was released, criticizing the Obama administration’s real-time reaction to Russian hacking and its decision “not publicize the full story” to the American people.

Rosenstein, who was speaking in New York at the Public Servants Dinner of the Armenian Bar Association, defended his handling of the probe and criticized former officials in the process. He also called out former FBI Director James Comey for alerting Congress about the investigation into Russian collusion at the height of the 2016 presidential campaign.
