Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We muse use it while we can.

  3. Is this for REAL ???

In any event, with Macron having declared the “renovation” of Notre Dame an “International Contest for Architects” (without, of course asking the French People he so despises their opinion and even before he could create a “proof” that it was an “accident”), I suspect, the fallen Tower will be replaced with a Minaret and the next “mass” will be celebrated a little like this video shows (with this faux Pope Francis snogging the feet of the ‘congretation’):

    • As I keep saying Civilization has been destroyed, once you destroy the foundations of a Civilization you destroy civilization. We can rebuild Civilization but we will need a moral foundation to build on, until we can re-establish a foundation (besides the current “if it feels good do” attitude). The good news is that historically during times of grave crisis people turn to religion.

“The spit that infected the cop with gonorrhoea bacteria took place while the arrested offender was in a holding cell in the Dutch city of Leiden, in the province of South Holland, the Daily Star reported on Saturday.

An STD afflicted thug spat in a police officer’s face, resulting in the cop catching gonorrhoea and being blinded in one eye, the media outlet said, adding that the infected policeman retired after the incident.

During the court hearing, the officer called the incident “very bizarre”, noting that, as a result, he couldn’t see anything from his right eye.

Commenting on his experience after being blinded, he said: “It is just like I’m shrouded in fog”.”

  6. 110 Kosovars, mostly children and women, returned from Syria (abcnews, Apr 20, 2019)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/justice-minister-number-kosovars-returned-syria-62522842

“Kosovo authorities announced Saturday they have brought back from Syria 110 Kosovar citizens, mostly women and children, with the assistance of the United States.

Justice Minister Abelard Tahiri, top policeman Rashit Qalaj and a health official told journalists early Saturday that a planned operation to bring back some of our citizens from Syria ended successfully bringing back four alleged fighters with the Islamic State group, 32 women and 74 children, without giving more details due to the sensitivity of the case.

Nine children had lost parents during the fighting in Syria.

The group has been taken to a center in Vranidoll, 10 kilometers (6 miles) from the capital Pristina, to be taken care of before sent to homes in the next 72 hours.

Three children were seen playing football inside the shelter, well-protected by special police force surrounding its perimeter.

The four suspected fighters were arrested.

Tahiri said a task force was created in October in close cooperation with the United States.

Our message is clear: The Kosovo government will strongly continue to prevent and fight violent extremism and terrorism, he said.

The U.S. embassy in Pristina commended Kosovos move for setting an important example and applauded its compassion in accepting the return of this large number of civilians.

The United States remains grateful to the Syrian Democratic Forces for their support in the repatriation and for continuing to humanely detain hundreds more ISIS fighters from dozens of countries, it added.

The minister considered the women and children to be innocent victims, adding that the authorities had plans to rehabilitate and reintegrate them into society.

More than 400 Kosovars initially joined extremist groups in Syria and Iraq, but none has left in the past three years, according to Kosovo authorities.

Qalaj said that 30 Kosovo citizens are still actively supporting the groups there, and there are also 49 women and eight children.

We shall not allow our citizens to turn into a threat to the Western world and will take all to ensure that those accountable face the law, Tahiri said, adding that there is no amnesty for any person, be it a woman or a man, who has committed an extremist or terror act.”

  7. Iraq summit brings together rivals Saudi Arabia and Iran (abcnews, Apr 20, 2019)

“A summit organized by Iraq is bringing together regional rivals Saudi Arabia and Iran to bridge relations and invest in Iraq.

Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mohamed al-Halbousi is heading the one-day summit between Iraq and its six neighbors: Syria, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Turkey, Jordan, and Kuwait.

The summit underlines a shift to Iraqs foreign policy, placing the country as a mediator between neighbors who are often at odds over weighty issues, such as the civil war in Syria, and U.S. sanctions against Iran.

Iraqi leaders have emphasized Iraqs sovereignty since elections last year, and they say it is vital to Iraqs security and economy to develop good relations with the neighbors.

The country is seeking billions of dollars in aid and investment to help it rebuild after 15 years of war.”

  8. Arab Coalition destroys Houthi drone capabilities in Yemen’s Sanaa (wam, Apr 20, 2019)
    http://wam.ae/en/details/1395302756774

“The Saudi-led Arab Coalition supporting the legitimate government in Yemen announced early Saturday that it launched an operation destroying a network of drone capabilities of the Houthi militia in a camp at the presidential palace area in Sanaa.

Arab Coalition spokesperson Colonel Turki al-Maliki confirmed that the coalition forces targeted a Houthi drone manufacturing plant and a store containing launch pads, destroying them completely.

According to al-Malki, the strikes are an extension of military operations that targeted and destroyed an integrated network of logistical capabilities and facilities for Houthi drones, as well as locations where foreign experts are present.

Al-Malki reiterated the coalition’s commitment to prevent the Houthi militia from using these advanced capabilities, and to take all the necessary measures to protect civilians as well as vital areas from the threat of drones.

He noted that the coalition’s operations are in accordance with international humanitarian law and its customs, and that the coalition’s joint command took all the precautionary measures to protect civilians.”

  9. Trump seethes over Mueller report, Democrat demands impeachment

Washington (AFP) – A seething President Donald Trump launched a tirade Friday against the “bullshit” Mueller report on how he tried to thwart the probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election, while a leading Democratic opponent urged his impeachment.

In early morning tweets, Trump called it “the Crazy Mueller Report” written by “Haters” and filled with statements that “are fabricated & totally untrue.”

Some of the statements, he said, “are total bullshit & only given to make the other person look good (or me to look bad).”

Just 24 hours earlier, the president crowed “Game Over” after the report by special counsel Robert Mueller was finally released, following two years of investigations.

Crucially, the report stated that Trump’s election campaign never colluded with Russian meddling efforts, clearing th

Now they are working hard to destroy the man who derailed their plan to turn the US into a Socialist Hellhole.

  10. Venezuela’s Guaido calls for ‘largest march in history’ to oust Maduro

CARACAS, April 19 (Reuters) – Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido on Friday called on supporters to take to the streets on May 1 for what he called “the largest march in the history” of the South American country to keep the pressure on President Nicolas Maduro to leave power.

Guaido, the head of the opposition-controlled National Assembly who in January invoked the constitution to assume an interim presidency on the basis that Maduro’s 2018 re-election was illegitimate, reiterated his call for the country’s armed forces to take his side in the three-month power struggle.

“They will need to listen to the people saying: enough,” Guaido told a crowd gathered at a plaza in eastern Caracas, setting the date for the march for May 1, International Workers’ Day.

“We call on all the people to join in the largest march in the history of Venezuela to demand the end to the usurpation so this tragedy can end.”

Guaido has been recognized by the United States and most Western nations as the South American country’s rightful leader. The oil-rich country is in a sixth year of recession, marked by hyperinflation and shortages of basic goods that have prompted more than three million to emigrate.

  13. Mueller Report shows how similar troll campaign against Roy Moore was to Russian effort in 2016
By Daily Caller News Foundation April 20, 2019

Special counsel Robert Mueller’s report suggests Russia’s troll job likely paved the way for Democratic officials who would eventually go on to create a similar campaign ahead of the 2018 midterm elections.

The size, scope, and tactics the Internet Research Agency (IRA) used to troll social media users in the U.S. leading up to the presidential election are virtually identical to those a slew of Democratic operatives allegedly used before a 2017 midterm election in Alabama. The IRA kicked off its ploy in 2014, when operatives focused on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube users to tilt them toward polar political positions.

IRA created Twitter accounts in the names of fictitious U.S. grassroots groups and used them to pose as anti-immigration groups, Tea Party activists, Black Lives Matter protesters, among other conservative advocates, according to the report. The technique, which included creating conservative-sounding accounts like @TEN_ GOP, was designed to get some groups within the U.S. animated as elections neared.

  14. Student wrongly arrested for rating female classmates on Twitter
By Hans Bader April 19, 2019

A student in Ohio has been arrested and faces expulsion for rating his female classmates on Twitter. His arrest violates the First Amendment, which forbids criminalizing speech just because it is in bad taste or angers viewers. A law professor says it would violate the First Amendment to expel him from school for his tweets. But even if the school has the power to discipline him for the speech, the criminal justice system doesn’t have the power to jail him for it, because prosecutors can’t punish speech that is vulgar or causes unrest, even when school officials can. The First Amendment places tighter limits on prosecutors than it does on school officials.

    Passover greetings from Liberty Unyielding
    By J.E. Dyer April 19, 2019

As is often the case, Passover in 2019 begins on a date that carries historical meaning of various kinds, marking the anniversary of events that range from heinous to heroic, and are fraught with significance.

In modern times, the most famous Jewish event on 19 April has to be the Warsaw Ghetto uprising of 1943. Jewish leaders in the Ghetto had learned of the Nazi plan to round up the remaining 55,000-60,000 Jews residing in it for deportation to the Treblinka death camp. It was Passover in 1943, in fact, as it is in 2019, when on the 19th a Jewish force of about 750 armed fighters launched the battle. It took the Germans a month to suppress the uprising, a heroic and remarkable stand by the Warsaw Jews that raised the morale of Jews across Europe. About 7,000 Jews and 300 Germans were killed in the battle. The remaining Jews were captured and transported to the death camps.

    https://libertyunyielding.com/2019/04/19/passover-greetings-from-liberty-unyielding/

Richard: The lesson from the Warsaw Ghetto is one that everyone who is in the Resistance against the Islamic Invasion needs to learn. 750 armed fighters fought for a month to stop the Germans from moving the remaining Jews to the extermination camps.

The fighters were for the most part untrained people who for 30 days and nights fought and held off crack units in the German Army. The German officer who wrote the after action report got in trouble for writing the truth, that the Jewish fighters would have been awarded the highest medals of valor if they had been in any Army. The uprising failed because it was too little too late, if the Jews had armed themselves earlier and had been able to get a little training they would have done much better. They didn’t do this because the Jewish Leaders were against violence and insisted that non violence was the only way to go. They went like sheep to the slaughter while the fighters earned immortality through their actions.

Leon Uris (US Marine Corp WWII, fictionalized his time in the Corp in Battle Cry) touched on the Warsaw Uprising in his bood Exodus, and covered it in depth in his book Mila 18. I urge everyone to find and read all of his books but Exodus and Mila 18 first.

We find ourselves once more facing the necessity of preparing to fight for our freedom, are we going to go to the extermination camps like sheep or are we to learn the lessons from WWII and fight for our freedom. In a last ditch desperation move 750 brave but untrained men out fought the best units in the German Army for 30 days. They have set the standard, can the Europeans match or exceed it. If they prepare they can win against all the left and Islam can through at them.

    • Leon Uris (US Marine Corp WWII, fictionalized his time in the Corp in Battle Cry) touched on the Warsaw Uprising in his bood Exodus, and covered it in depth in his book Mila 18. I urge everyone to find and read all of his books but Exodus and Mila 18 first.

On your word, I clicked the article and its immediate mention of the Warsaw Ghetto brought to mind all of Uris’ books about it. I’d add QB VII, but that’s yust nitpicking that you don’t need deserve.

I’ll go you one better and say that everything I’ve read by Uris has been tip-top save, “O’Hara’s Choice”, that—despite its informative structural timeline of the USMC—was one of those rare books that I really didn’t mind finishing. Kind of like David Brin’s Uplift Trilogy (and I’ve read nearly everything from both pens).

A wee online giftie fer yee: “The Voice in the Night(1907)

It’s a tale that appeared in Hitchcock’s compendium (and buried in my library) called, “Stories They Wouldn’t Let Me Do On TV”. A few were the bee’s knees like, “A Woman Seldom Found”, by William Sansom. Any fan of archaeology will really twig on that last title.

From 1907, in twenty-three pages William Hope Hodgson (also: The House on the Borderland – 1908), spins a very macabre yarn with his own classic touches. From 1912, “The Night Land” (although dry at times) was one of the few serious progenitors of Tolkien, only in a more noir format. Try Lord Dunsany (The King of Elfland’s Daughter) and William Morris (The Well at the World’s End) to sample superlative fantasy, as woven by its creators.

In Hodgson’s own macabre genre is the American scribe, Clark Ashton Smith (much admired by Lovecraft). Peruse Smith’s “City of the Singing Flame” for a genius-level display of wordsmithing.

  17. jihad watch – Canada: Muslim deemed “high risk to public safety” to be released, must “reach out” to an imam

The Canadian authorities assume that the imam will “deradicalize” Kevin Omar Mohamed. What is their basis for this assumption? They are sure that Islam is a religion of peace that young Kevin Omar has simply misunderstood, and that the imam will put him back on the straight path. They do not dare to consider the possibility that Kevin Omar Mohamed may have been “radicalized” by reading the violent exhortations of the Qur’an (“kill them wherever you find them,” 2:191, 4:89, cf. 9:5) and the Sunnah, in which Muhammad is depicted as saying, “I have been ordered to fight the people till they say: ‘None has the right to be worshipped but Allah.’ And if they say so, pray like our prayers, face our Qibla and slaughter as we slaughter, then their blood and property will be sacred to us and we will not interfere with them except legally.” (Bukhari 8:387) Their blood and property will be sacred to us – that is, left undisturbed, instead of their being killed and their property seized.

It is an iron dogma all over the West that Islam is not what its texts teach and how it has behaved for 14 centuries. How and when it changed, no one bothers to explain.

    ===========================================================

CBC – Ontario man dubbed ‘high risk to public safety’ after trying to join terror group set for release

Kevin Omar Mohamed is set for release amid concerns from parole board he hasn’t been deradicalized

An Ontario man who travelled to Syria to support an al-Qaeda-affiliated terror group is set to be released from prison — despite being considered of “high risk to public safety,” according to a decision by the Parole Board of Canada.

Kevin Omar Mohamed, now 26, pleaded guilty in June 2017 to participating in the activity of a terror group. He was later sentenced to four and a half years behind bars, receiving two and a half years credit for time served. He had no prior criminal history.

His sentence is set to expire in October 2019 and it’s unclear when exactly he will be released.

According to the parole board decision obtained by CBC News, Mohamed travelled to Turkey in 2014 where he met members of Jabhat al-Nusra, a known terrorist group, and was smuggled in the trunk of a car to Syria.

Once there, the former University of Waterloo student tweeted out invitations for others to join the cause, giving detailed instructions on how a person could cross from Turkey into Syria.

It wasn’t until his mother eventually reached him by email and his older brother flew to Turkey to meet him that Mohamed returned home.

But his fascination with terror didn’t end there.

    ‘Attacking the West’

Back in Canada, police said he used two separate Twitter accounts to post “comments supportive of terrorist activities, promote violence, and suggested that a person could create timed bombs to be put on planes or boats.”

Mohamed also urged people to “burn cars of ‘non-believers'” and “commented on the beauty of attacking the West,” police said.

In February 2016, after an argument with his mother, Mohamed left her Whitby, Ont., home and found himself on the street.

Police would track him for six days until suddenly he went “offline” and removed $3,500 from his bank account, according to a statement of facts submitted in court. Ten days later, police found him tweeting about how one might join Jabhat al-Nusra while on the run, and inquiring about extradition treaties with the U.S.

There is no evidence to indicate that you are committed to changing your extremist ideological beliefs.

    – Parole Board of Canada decision

His mother reported him missing later that month.

In March 2016, Mohamed was arrested after being found sleeping in empty rooms on the University of Waterloo campus. He was found with what police said was a large hunting knife, work gloves, a large quantity of money and handwritten notes taken down from al-Qaeda publications on how to plan and carry out an attack.

CBC News previously reported the Mohamed was linked by counter-terrorism researchers to the online persona “Abu Jayyid.”

    ‘Radical religious beliefs’

Amarnath Amarasingam, a researcher on extremism, said Mohamed, described by friends as “a bit of a loner” with “weird views,” didn’t seem all that concerning at first.

“He seemed mostly to be engaged in a theological and intellectual engagement with issues of jihad and Syria.”

But on March 24, 2016 — two days after a series of coordinated suicide bombings struck Brussels — Abu Jayyid posted a tweet asking how to modify a popular video game to be set to the scene of the city’s airport.

As part of his release, Mohamed is subject to a range of conditions including: not associating with individuals engaged in terror activities or who are criminally active, living with family, not engaging in unsupervised internet use and undergoing religious counseling.

But since Mohamed has not participated in “any interventions geared toward deradicalization, there is no evidence to indicate that” he is committed to changing his “extremist ideological beliefs,” the Parole Board said.

“The board remains very concerned that the serious nature of your offences alone coupled with your dangerous radical religious beliefs would impede your reintegration and continue to present significant risk to the community.”

    ‘Under careful watch’

While the board has mandated Mohamed to “reach out to an imam in the community,” it did not offer specifics on the terms of the religious counseling imposed.

Mohamed’s offences “were triggered by political grievances and extremist interpretations of Islam,” the decision said.

It’s unclear why Mohamed was not explicitly mandated to attend a government-funded deradicalization program.

“His motivation was to help Syrians with the humanitarian crisis. However, he recognized that he went about it the wrong way,” his lawyer Paul Slansky told CBC News.

“Although not motivated by radical thought, he acknowledged having said things that appeared to reflect such thoughts,” he said.

Slansky added that in his view the parole board, “notoriously disinclined to release in terrorism cases, must believe that is not high risk or that the risks are manageable,” adding risk is best managed gradually through the parole process.

In a statement, Parole Board spokesperson Kerry Gatien said managing board-imposed conditions falls to the Correctional Service of Canada under the purview of the Department of Public Safety.

Canadian law mandates that offenders serve the final third of their sentences in the community “under supervision with strict conditions,” said a statement on behalf of Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale’s office. “This allows for gradual release under careful watch, instead of releasing offenders ‘cold turkey’ at the end of their sentence, which would be far less safe.”

Offenders who breach their conditions or endanger public safety in any way can be returned to custody, said the statement from spokesperson Scott Bardsley.

The statement went on to say “the laws under which Mr. Mohamed was sentenced and will receive statutory release remain the same as they were under the previous Conservative government.”

Bardsley said he couldn’t comment on operational matters related to national security.

He said the government has “robust measures to address potential terrorist threats,” and can employ tools such as surveillance, no-fly listings and peace bonds as part of its threat-reduction measures.

  18. Four Turkish soldiers killed in clashes with Kurdish rebels (kurdistan24, Apr 20, 2019)
    http://www.kurdistan24.net/en/news/11eee96d-7f2c-4291-b0f5-235ba50266b3

“Kurdish rebels killed four Turkish soldiers and wounded six others on Friday at midnight near the Kurdistan Region border, Turkey’s Defense Ministry said in a press release.

Clashes erupted during a Turkish army operation against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), an armed group the NATO member country outlaws along with its Western allies for leading a four-decade-long rebellion against the Turkish state over Kurds’ demands of self-rule and cultural rights.

The Turkish forces expanded the scope of the operation with the help of airstrikes and mortars in the snow-clad mountainous region of the Hakkari province, the ministry said, without providing further details.

There was no comment from the PKK regarding the clashes as of the time of publishing this report.

It was unclear if there were Kurdish casualties, but the Turkish army said they were working “to determine” that…”

  20. Erdo?an breaking ties with the Arab world – The National (ahvalnews, Apr 20, 2019)
    https://ahvalnews.com/recep-tayyip-erdogan/erdogan-breaking-ties-arab-world-national

“Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an is hoping he can deflect internal woes by manufacturing problems with other countries, as evident in Ankara’s detention of two men accused being spies for the UAE, wrote Ahmed Al Jarwan, president of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, for the UAE-based newspaper The National.

Turkish authorities said they have detained the two men who have been identified as Palestinian Samir Samih Shabaan and Zaki Yousef Hassan on Monday on suspicion of spying for the UAE.

The move arrives as the country’s unemployment between December and February was reported as being at its highest in a decade , reaching close to 15 per cent and the lira continues to slide amid Erdo?an’s defeat at the March 31 local elections, Al Jarwan wrote.

Noting that Erdo?an has openly threatened bankers who reported on the Turkish economy, the article stressed that the response by Turkey’s strongman to the country’s ailing economy raises more concerns about how Turkey now does business.

“Arab investors must limit their exposure to such a volatile economy, especially when the rule of law is no longer guaranteed to protect bankers and others in the country,’’ the article said while quoting Ulrich Leuchtmann from Commerzbank as saying: “With archaic measures of this kind, [Mr Erdogan] will scare away even the last courageous investor”.

In fact, the Turkish president’s erratic behaviour is of concern to all of in the region, The National article said, highlighting that Erdogan is breaking ties with the Arab world and making it impossible for Arabs to currently consider Turkey as a natural ally.

The latest accusation of two men spying for the UAE is problematic in that there are many flaws in the allegation, including the fact that if the rule of law was being followed and the two have not yet been charged, their identities and pictures should not have been released.

At one moment the detainees were being called Emirati, the next called Emirati agents, has further raised questions over the accusation, it added.

Furthermore, “Turkey’s role in Syria is being questioned by Syrians who had mistakenly trusted Ankara’s declared support for the opposition, only to then ally itself with Tehran and Moscow ,’’ the article said, noting that Ankara’s claims on lands in Arab countries such as Syria and Iraq are creating question marks about Erdo?an’s expansionist policies.

In the 40th year since the Turkish embassy opened in Abu Dhabi, celebrations have been replaced with serious concerns about relations with Turkey under Erdogan’s rule, Al Jarwan said, adding that Emirati citizens are no longer safe visiting Turkey, where the risks are too high and civilians have repeatedly been targeted.

As for many UAE businesses, it added, the decision to invest in Turkey also forms too great a risk.

Highlighting that the UAE is the second largest trading partner for Turkey after Iraq, the article underlined that bilateral trade between the two countries, which stood at $13.4 billion in 2017, is now in jeopardy, as investors and consumers alike feel the political pressure Ankara’s actions.”

  22. FIREWORKS! Mike Huckabee Calls For April Ryan’s White House Credentials to be Revoked For Saying Sarah Sanders’ Head Should be “Lopped Off”

Mike Huckabee sprung into action Friday to defend his daughter, White House Press Sec Sarah Sanders after CNN’s April Ryan called for Sanders’ head to “lopped off.”

April Ryan demanded Sarah Sanders be fired over a discrepancy in a statement she made about the rank and file at the FBI losing confidence in Comey.

April Ryan flipped out over Sarah Sanders’ statement (via NewsBusters):

“Not only does she not have credibility, she lied. She out and out lied,” she declared as emotion welled up in her voice. “And the people, the American people can’t trust her. They can’t trust what’s said from the President’s mouthpiece-spokesperson from the people’s house. Therefore, she should be let go. She should be fired, end of story.”

Things got very dark as Ryan rhetorically suggested that since there was “a lack of credibility there, you have to start and start lopping the heads off.” She added: “It’s fire me Thursday or fire me Good Friday. She needs to go.”

Mike Huckabee was furious over April Ryan’s statements about his daughter.

“So liberals—is this okay? Does CNN have the integrity to deal with this incitement to murder? CNN’s April Ryan Says Sarah Sanders’ Head Should Be “Lopped Off”” Mike Huckabee said in a tweet Friday evening, linking to an article from Red State.

Huckabee followed up by calling for April Ryan’s White House credentials to be revoked. “If not, they are gutless tools,” Huckabee said of the White House Correspondents’ Association.

  23. Report: Ilhan Omar Is Under Investigation For Misusing Campaign Contributions

Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar is facing a probe into her campaign spending after complaints alleged that she misused contributions for personal use, according to a report published on Monday.

The Minnesota Campaign Finance Board is investigating Omar after Minnesota GOP State Rep. Steve Drazkowski filed two complaints alleging she spent nearly $6,000 in campaign funds for personal use while she served in the Minnesota legislature, reported WJLA. Some of the improper expenditures include payments to Omar’s divorce attorney and spending on travel to Boston and Estonia.

“I had observed a long pattern,” Drazkowski told WJLA. “Representative Omar hasn’t followed the law. She’s repeatedly trampled on the laws of the state in a variety of areas, and gotten by with it.”

An assault on members of the Hellenic Coast Guard during a drug raid in Athens on April 4 highlights a growing problem in Greece. Some opponents of the far-left Syriza-led government attribute the increasing drug traffic in the country to a dangerous alliance between political anarchists and illegal immigrants. The anarchists might be considered the Greek equivalent of the “far left”. According to Reuters:

he walls were not coming down. They were not closing in. There was, at the end of the day, no evidence whatsoever of any collusion — and there was nothing but a president frustrated at being wrongly accused and wrongly investigated over a very effective hoax.

Most people don’t understand what it is to not only be personally investigated for something you didn’t do but also have your friends, family members and associates placed in legal jeopardy over it. Special counsel Robert Mueller’s team systematically targeted the people around the president, squeezing them like lemons, indicting them on mostly process crimes created by the investigation itself. They reviewed everyone’s emails, text messages, phone calls, bank statements — and yet their conclusion on collusion was clear and definitive. It has to be believed.

  28. Bosnia Brings Back, Detains ISIS Fighter From Syria (aawsat, Apr 20, 2019)
    https://aawsat.com/english/home/article/1687876/bosnia-brings-back-detains-isis-fighter-syria

“A Bosnian national suspected of fighting for ISIS in Syria has been transferred to Bosnia and put in detention, Bosnia’s prosecutor’s office said on Saturday.

After the collapse of ISIS’ self-declared caliphate in Syria and Iraq, countries around the world are wrestling with how to handle militants and their families seeking to return.

“I.C, 24, is suspected for criminal acts of organizing a terrorist group, illegal formation, and of joining foreign paramilitary or para-police formations, and terrorism,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

Bosnia’s state court has tried and convicted 46 people who have returned from Syria or Iraq in the past few years.

Local media identified the man as Ibro Cufurovic from the northwestern town of Velika Kladusa who, along with Armin Curt, 22, from Sarajevo, had been detained by the Kurdish militia more than a year ago.

The prosecution outlined the assistance of the United States in bringing the man back. The United States is the ally of the Kurdish militia operating in northern Syria.

According to Bosnian intelligence, 241 adults and 80 children left Bosnia or the Bosnian diaspora in 2012-2016 for Syria and Iraq, where 150 more children were born. About 100 adults, including 49 women, remained there while at least 88 have been killed or died.

Several women with children, including Cufurovic’s wife, have pleaded with the Bosnian authorities to be allowed to return home but there is still no clear policy in place on how to deal with them because their children do not hold Bosnian citizenship.

Also on Saturday, another Balkan state, Kosovo, brought back 110 of its citizens from Syria including fighters and 74 children.”

  30. 3 million illegals netted, 750,000 deported since November 2017 (saudigazette, Apr 20, 2019)
    http://saudigazette.com.sa/article/563819/SAUDI-ARABIA/3-million-illegals-netted-750000-deported-since-November-2017

“Saudi authorities have arrested about 2.98 million foreigners who were living in the country in violation of the labor and residency regulations and deported more than 750,000 of them to their respective countries since November 2017, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Saturday quoting the Interior Ministry officials.

The Saudi Interior Ministry launched a nationwide crackdown against illegal residents on Nov. 15, 2017, with the participation of

19 government departments including the Directorate General of Passports and the Ministry of Labor and Social Development.

The campaign officials said as many as 2.98 million expatriates were arrested for violating the system of residency, labor regulations and border security.

They said 750,504 of detained residents were deported to their respective home countries.

As many as 2,328,031 expatriates were arrested for violating residency regulations, 458,591 for violating the labor law and 200,695 for breaching border security.

The officials said a total of 50,388 people were apprehended while attempting to sneak into the Kingdom through its southern borders. About 49 percent of the infiltrators were Yemenis, 48 percent Ethiopians and the rest constituted people of various nationalities.

The officials also said 3,697 people were caught while attempting to leave the Kingdom illegally.

According to the campaign officials, as many as 3,697 people, including 1,227 Saudi nationals, were arrested fro providing transportation and accommodation to illegal residents.

They said 1,177 Saudis detained for sheltering illegals were questioned, punished and released while 50 others were still being investigated.

A total of 405,806 expatriates were referred to their concerned embassies and consulates to issue them with travel documents while 507,042 were waiting for flight bookings to leave the country.

The officials said 11,813 illegal expatriates were held in various detention centers in the country. They consist of 9,818 men and 1,995 women.

The security clampdown to flush out all illegal expatriates from Saudi Arabia seems to have achieved its objectives with the coordinated efforts of various security agencies.

The Ministry of Interior launched the Nation Without Illegal Expats campaign on March 29, 2017, with an initial 90-day grace period for all visa overstayers and violators of residency and labor laws to leave the country without incurring any penalties. Due to the huge rush of undocumented workers wishing to leave the Kingdom taking advantage of the general amnesty, which allowed them to return to the Kingdom later on legal work visas, the grace period was extended a number of times until it finally ended on Nov. 15, 2017.

The Passport Department and several foreign diplomatic missions opened facilitation centers in various parts of the country to help expatriates wishing to leave the Kingdom on their own to complete the procedures.

Saudi authorities estimated that more than 750,000 people belonging to 140 nationalities had benefited from the amnesty when the grace period finally ended. But hundreds of thousands of others remained in the Kingdom, either determined to stay back unheedful of the consequences or unable to avail themselves of the amnesty offer.”

  31. Saudi journalist sentenced to 5 years in secret trial (memo, Apr 20, 2019)
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20190420-saudi-journalist-sentenced-to-5-years-in-secret-trial/

“Prominent Saudi journalist Ali Al-Dhafiri has been subject to a secret trial in the Kingdom and handed a five-year prison sentence.

Activists on social media networks circulated news saying that Saudi Arabia has held a secret session to try Al-Dhafiri – a presenter for Al Jazeera TV – sentencing him to five years in prison and banning him from travelling for ten years. Saudi Arabia claims he “communicated with Qatar” as justification for this sentence.

The activists also claimed that funds belonging Al-Dhafiri were confiscated and his family was forced to pledge that they would not talk about the issue to any media outlet. They were also threatened that their devices were under surveillance.

Al-Dhafiri resigned from Al-Jazeera TV two weeks after Saudi Arabia cut ties with Qatar and imposed an embargo on the Gulf state. His resignation was said to have come after threats were made to arrest him and his family by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman (MBS).

Al-Dhafiri posted on his Twitter account: “In Obedience to Allah and the guardians, may Allah protect them, and in loyalty to the homeland and in accordance with its policies and laws, I resign from Al-Jazeera channel and wish success to all my family and colleagues there.”

After his return to the Kingdom, Twitter activists noticed the disappearance of Al-Dhafiri’s account from the site. In September, Al Jazeera journalist Jamal Rayyan said that he had heard from a Saudi citizen that Al-Dhafiri was being held in the country’s prisons.”

    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20190420-kuwait-newspaper-reveals-plan-to-destabilise-jordan/

“Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Qabas has revealed a “dangerous” plan aimed to destabilise Jordan by promoting an individual close to King Abdullah II.

The Kuwaiti paper reported security and political sources as saying that the man behind this plan is the husband of the King’s aunt, Al-Wattan Voice reported on Friday. The man is believed to be a businessman charged with corruption and a senior security official loyal to a former intelligence agency chief. It is thought he has relations with a number of politicians and journalists inside and outside Jordan.

According to the Kuwaiti newspaper, the “hellish plan” would have cast doubt over the King’s ability to choose heads of government, as well as include a deliberate campaign to weaken the current Prime Minister, Omar Al-Razzaz, by using information about recruiting ministers and MPs’ brothers to public positions with high salaries.

This would be used to mobilise members of the different Jordanian tribes to start a protest in front of the Royal Palace in order to create a state of unprecedented instability. The newspaper reported that the planners asked the country’s banned Muslim Brotherhood to join the protests, but the group refused.

It is worth noting that the King met on Tuesday with Muslim Brotherhood MPs for the first time since the start of the Arab Spring in 2011.”

“A video depicting domestic violence has made the rounds on social media. The two-minutes-long clip showing what is believed to be a husband abusing his Moroccan wife, Safaa, who is 17 years old.

In the video, which the alleged wife secretly filmed, the husband is seen carrying a belt while brutalizing his underage wife and strangling her against the floor.

In the second part of the video, having beaten his wife, the husband appears to act as if he had only been reciting the Qur’an to exorcise his seemingly possessed wife.

The two parts of the videos posted on social media triggered public outrage and indignation.

Originally from Temara, South of Rabat, Safaa, who said she comes from the countryside, filmed a separate video in which she recounts her situation, including her identity and how she got where she is now.

She said she married her Saudi husband and relocated to Saudi Arabia, where she got beaten on the first day she arrived. She also recounts how her husband repeatedly brutalized her since relocating to Saudi Arabia. She said her abusive sometimes locks her up to prevent her from leaving.

Safaa said she had a miscarriage as a result of violent beatings.

Safaa, who explained that she has suffered greatly, said, “I slept alone on cardboards because I couldn’t stand him being around.””

  35. Fazl warns of Islamabad lockdown (tribune, Apr 20, 2019)
    https://tribune.com.pk/story/1955424/1-fazl-warns-islamabad-lockdown/

“Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of his own faction of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), warned on Saturday that his party would lock down the federal capital if the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government did not step down.

“We demand that fresh elections should be held in the country,” the JUI-F chief told reporters after a meeting of the Muttahida Majlis–e–Amal (MMA), an alliance of religious parties.

Fazl, who is also the president of the MMA, said all opposition parties were on the same page on holding fresh elections.

He added that the country was stuck in economic and political crises for the last eight months.

“The country is being run by a few selected technocrats and the minister [Asad Umar] failed to present the annual budget,” Fazl maintained.

“Now an International Monetary Fund (IMF) budget would be presented instead of that of the government,” he added.

The JUI-F leader claimed that people had lost billions of rupees in the stock market during the last eight months because of the government’s economic policies.

He also demanded an inquiry into the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project in Peshawar. “The project which was estimated to cost Rs30 billion has now touched Rs100 billion,” he noted.

“The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has been rounding up politicians belonging to opposition parties, while the minister and officials responsible for the BRT fiasco are roaming free.”

Fazl pointed out that the PTI did not have its own ministers and had chosen people who were part of the government during Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) tenure for the job.

“The current government lacks the ability to pull the country out of its crises,” he added.

The JUI-F chief noted that the presidential form of government was a symbol of dictatorship and such measures should be avoided.”

  36. Group of Armed Mexican Soldiers Disarm, Detain US Soldiers on Texas Side of Border

A group of armed Mexican soldiers disarmed and detained two US soldiers on the US side of the border near Clint, Texas on April 13th.

Officials with US Northern Command told CNN that “The U.S. soldiers were appropriately in U.S. territory,” and were reportedly providing border support “in an unmarked (U.S. Customs and Border Protection) vehicle.”

According to officials, the Mexican soldiers pointed their firearms at the two US soldiers and removed a sidearm from one of the US soldiers.

The US soldiers allowed their weapons to be taken “in an attempt to de-escalate a potential volatile situation.”

One of the US soldiers spoke Spanish and was able to communicate to the Mexican soldiers and explain the situation — both sides promised to de-conflict in the future, the officials said.

Customs and Border Protection confirmed that the Mexican soldiers believed the US soldiers were on the Mexican side of the border, even though they were on US soil.

“Greece violates international law, treaties by arming Aegean islands,” which are under demilitarized status, he added.

The Turkish minister also stated that Athens “should end its violations that are contrary to treaties and incompatible with friendship and good neighborly relations.”

“The demilitarized status of these islands should be protected and continued.”

He underlined that Turkey is in favor to solve problems in the Mediterranean Sea, the Aegean Sea and the disputed island of Cyprus by peaceful means as Ankara is always respectful to international treaties.

“We are in favor of good neighborly relations. We expect all our neighbors to behave in the same way.”

Akar urged his Greek counterpart to take necessary measures “on this and other issues under the framework of sincere, constructive and good” bilateral relations.

He also reiterated Turkey’s determined stance to protect its rights and interest.

A decades-long dispute between Turkey and Greece over the uninhabited Aegean islets brought the two countries to the brink of armed conflict in 1996.”

  38. Ottoman sultan’s gifts build bridges with US (aa, Apr 20, 2019)

“On a hot and humid day in 1884 on the grounds of Yildiz Palace in Istanbul, Turkey, New York congressman Abram Hewitt was sightseeing when his young son fainted.

His son was taken to a nearby guardhouse, where he was given medical attention. Two other boys saw what was going on and reported what happened to their father, who happened to be Abdulhamid II, the sultan of the Ottoman Empire.

The next day, palace guards visited Hewitt’s hotel and asked about his son’s health. They also presented him with an invitation to visit the sultan. The two met, and a friendship developed.

The sultan gave Hewitt carpets and swords as gifts and later 51 albums containing photos taken throughout the empire along with some manuscripts.

Washington in turn reciprocated the gesture, gifting the sultan with a series of photos depicting various parts of the United States.

The sultan’s collection, which included scholarly works in Ottoman Turkish, Persian and Arabic, was delivered to the Library of Congress.

“I think what he was trying to show was how educated the courts were, as well as the scholarly works that were being published in Istanbul,” Joan Weeks, a Turkish specialist at the Library of Congress, said during a lecture on the exhibition Friday.

“At that time, Sultan Abdulhamid II was trying to show America that the Ottoman Empire was similar to its Western counterparts,” Halid Bulut, head of the Washington, D.C. branch of the Yunus Emre Institute, a Turkish cultural center, told Anadolu Agency.

The institute, which held the exhibition, showcased some of the photos gifted by the sultan to the U.S.

“We are trying to show the decorated history between the United States and Turkey, which was then the Ottoman Empire,” Bulut said.

In 2016, Weeks began a difficult, two-year-long journey of digitizing the Library of Congress’ entire collection, finally finishing the project in November 2018.

“Thankfully, the sultan gave two copies of the collection,” Weeks said.

“Apparently he didn’t just gift them to the Library of Congress; he also gifted to other libraries as well, like Germany,” she added.

Weeks became interested in Turkish studies back in the 1960s, when she was working in Turkey for the Peace Corps, a volunteer program run by the United States government, in rural community development.

“That’s kind of where I fell in love with the area,” she told Anadolu Agency.

Weeks has many plans for her next few projects now that the Abdulhamid II collection is digitized.

The librarian said she is trying to work on getting access to a collection of Ottoman medical books she believes are currently located in the National Library of Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland.

She also said she wants to work with the Library of Congress to share this collection with the rest of the world.

“This was a big step in the relations between the two countries, achieved through photographic diplomacy,” Bulut said.

The Library of Congress also contains around 900 other Ottoman Turkish works, according to Weeks.

Abdulhamid II was one of the last leaders of the Ottoman empire, ruling for a period of 33 years from 1876 to 1909.

He spent his childhood and youth during the “Tanzimat,” a period of reform in the Ottoman Empire that began in 1839, and spoke many languages, including French, Arabic and Persian.

The photos gifted by Abdulhamid II highlight the modernization of numerous aspects of the Ottoman Empire, with images of educational facilities and students, firefighting brigades, factories, harbors, hospitals and government buildings.

The majority of places depicted are within the boundaries of modern-day Turkey, but some photos were also taken in Iraq, Lebanon and Greece.”

  39. Mueller Report Makes OBAMA Look Bad, Collusion Narrative a LIE To Protect Democrats??

    • Another bit of Timcast’s railing goes off of the rails.

Was snuffing al-Awlaki’s butt with a Hellfire enema ultra-controversial? Maybe so. Extrajudicial capital punishment must always be the exception to a supra-diplomatic norm for America.

Was there a more deserving case since Lord Haw Haw and Tokyo Rose? People like Ames and Walker make that only slightly more difficult to answer.

Did al-Awlaki’s son taking the dirt nap keep me awake on the long winter nights?

When it comes to “blowing up weddings and shit”, why doesn’t Timcast take a few minutes to reflect on the idiocy of America Bush 2.0 not blowing the shit out of a Taliban funeral that had a few hundred commanders present? Did that outrage him? Do I even need to provide a link?

The Russia collusion narrative “covering 0bama’s failures”? Puhlease! Rhully!

There isn’t a report that could “cover” 0bama’s treachery THAT WOULDN’T NEED MOUNT EVEREST FOR A PAPERWEIGHT!

Exposing the Mueller treason is cute but Timcast’s Left-leaning frame of reference is building an increasingly canted house—and one that I find uninviting. And, no, it’s NOT gratifying to see semi-sane people like Whittle and Timcast let their masks slip when push comes to shove. That said, this little tantrum has really put me off any more of his kibble.

Right when some powerful unity is required, certain individuals are exhibiting sticking points that really gum up the Conservative message precisely when it MOST needs to be LEAST garbled. I have to suppose that this is the Right’s fledgling “AOC syndrome” come home to roost.

When these orbital aberrations begin eclipsing public assimilation of crucial levers in world events, my hand snakes out to sketch a quick, red line in the cosmic dust.

And this is one of those times. 0bama, Mueller report and all, along with the Notre Dame Atrocity (because that’s what it was, a fucking Atrocity) all are symptoms of the same disease—with equally spectacular SELF-INDUCED failures that are an affront to human decency and rational thought.

When the 9-11 Atrocity and other Islamic bloodbaths (like Bali and Beslan) are stirred into this witch’s brew, the poison becomes systemic. All of which makes the hysteria over Trump’s return to semi-normal statecraft just that much more conspicuous (and ridiculous) in its towering hypocrisy.

      • Extrajudicial capital punishment must always be the exception to a supra-diplomatic norm for America.

        <strong<SB (Should Be)

Extrajudicial capital punishment must always be the supra-diplomatic exception to an interventional norm for America.

        Carry on.
