Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We muse use it while we can.

  1. Can someone, concerned about the determined attempt by both whites and others to destroy whites (almost all mixed race marriages produce non white children while whitey is blamed for everything and punished accordingly) and who see a possible , if not probable extinction coming for whites, really a supremacist?

    • “Can someone, concerned about the determined attempt by both whites and others to destroy whites…really a supremacist?”

      Neane-at-all.

      • My question was based upon his manifesto as he is now immediately labelled a white supremacist and yet is only concerned about the demise of whites and the invasion of the west by muslims and I think that such a stance is totally justified and not racist at all as if it were he would have added Copts and other ME Christians to his targets not to mention infidel Africans. This whole racist/supremacist story is a lie and to be upset by the invasion by an aggressive supremacist overbreeding ideology perfectly justified.
I am not convinced by the “trolling” or “mental illness” scenarios here.

        • You are looking at the racial portion of the motives and ignoring the political motives.

Yes it is normal to oppose an invading force that is seeking to destroy you nation, and in this case your race. This isn’t racist although the left will call it racist to hurt their political enemies.

What you are ignoring is the political statements, the ones where he says that he is committing the attacks using a firearm so he can inflame the gun control issue in the US and cause a civil war. This combined with his statements that he is an Eco-fascist and that the nation that comes the closest to matching his believes is Communist China make this a trolling attack. A trolling attack that is working since the gun control movement on the left is screaming about the need for more gun control to prevent more attacks like this one.

This isn’t just a war between Islam and everyone else, it is a multi-sided war that has the left out making moves to cause massive trouble for their political enemies.

Was there a racial/religious motive behind the attack?

          Yes.

Was there a political motive behind the attack?

          Yes.

Is he a right winger who was attacking to protect his nation and culture.

In my opinion, no. I think he is a left winger who is trying to cause as much trouble as he can for the conservatives in all Western Nation and is hoping that he can help start civil wars in the Western Nations.

Will he be held up as a hero by some on the right?

          Well Duh.

      • Hi Michelle,

Communists and Islamists destroy democracies. For these are block-voting Mobs controlled by foreign countries. The fatherless – Ideologically self-hating – express a belief in a higher power to absolve them of shame and determined to bring themselves peace when all are made to submit and become blind.

Once the Berlin Wall fell down, the Merkels came flooding over, and the muslims tailgated behind them. International Socialists bringing in abusive National Socialist boyfriends that they believed they could improve with the kumbaya of Hope and Change.

White Jihadi Socialists, and Social Justice Warriors have always Peacocked their virtues around Welfare Trees. Islam could never have existed without stealing from the trading community, nor Marxism without an Industrial Age. They are paracites. Taking the fruits from someone else’s labor at the point of a gun. Wealth Tax or Jizya Tax. Exactly the same scum in these governments who hold one Preferential Law for themselves and one lesser one for you.

The praised noble birthrights of a White Class and a muslim Class until they all have to be genetically-screened for inherited disorders. That is how dumb-ass you will know them. Always poisoning the human race though Pride.

And as always, you and your family will pay for it.

    • Do note that only the two jihadist converts are mentioned, not the usual jihadist suspects that came from that mosque.

  2. Germany: Iraqi asylum seekers stab a local man in front of a restaurant+++
After a verbal argument and a subsequent scuffle, an Iraqi stabbed his victim last night in the street in front of a restaurant in the Düsseldorf district of Golzheim. The 51-year-old victim suffered several stab wounds, which were life-threatening according to first assessments of the treating emergency physician. The man from Düsseldorf is currently being treated as an inpatient. The suspect and his companion were identified and arrested in a municipal refugee accommodation. According to the current investigations of the criminal investigation department, the injured party was together with friends in a restaurant on Kaiserswerther Street when, shortly after 11 p.m., he and a friend decided to smoke a cigarette outside the door. Here the 51-year-old got into an argument with two immigrants from Iraq (25 and 23 years old) and subsequently into a physical dispute. In the course of this, the 25-year-old stabbed the man from Düsseldorf with a stabbing weapon and so severely injured his upper body that the emergency doctor in charge of the case assumed that his life was in danger. The case is now being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Department, which classifies it as an attempted homicide. The main perpetrator is brought before a magistrate.

  4. Pres. Trump: I told GOP leadership to vote for ‘transparency’ on Mueller report

President Trump appears to explain why GOP lawmakers in the House of representatives voted with Democrats, in favor of publicly releasing the Mueller report.

In a tweet Saturday, the president said he told Congressional leadership to let all Republicans vote for transparency, in relation to the non-binding resolution.

The president also suggested the vote makes all Republicans look good, and it essentially doesn’t matter.

The resolution, which calls on the DOJ to publicly release “Mueller’s findings,” was approved unanimously in the House.

However, it was blocked from moving forward in the upper chamber by Senator Lindsey Graham.

    • Soviet Britain. Will they send him to a re-education camp where he’ll learn that 2 + 2 = 5 and Islam is the religion of peace?

      • If he is lucky, if he is unlucky he will go to a pen with a large Islamic population.

  5. Students confront Chelsea Clinton over New Zealand mosque shootings

Former first daughter Chelsea Clinton is confronted by a group of college students, who claim her comments sparked the New Zealand mosque shootings.

After attending a vigil on Friday, a group approached Clinton, saying her words “stoked” the massacre.

The students were referencing Clinton’s condemnation of anti-Semitic comments made by congresswoman Ilhan Omar.

Clinton said she was sorry the students felt that way, but that seemed to only enrage the group.

Donald Trump Jr. took to Twitter Saturday to defend Clinton, saying the incident was sickening, and everyone should be condemning anti-Semitism and all forms of hate.

    https://www.oann.com/students-confront-chelsea-clinton-over-new-zealand-mosque-shootings/

Richard: I never thought I would be defending a Clinton, she was right to condemn the anti-Semitic rants of Ilhan Omar and her condemnation of Ilhan Omar had nothing to do with the murder in New Zealand. The far radical left are attacking anyone that isn’t standing for everything the radical left wants.

Slightly OT but not really OT the communist protests yesterday that were defending Maduro and demanding that the US stop trying to remove Maduro showed that the radical left is trying to replay the 1960s.

I lived through that time period and think that if the internet had existed back them the war protesters wouldn’t have managed to turn the politicians away from supporting freedom and letting the Viet communists enslave South Vietnam. Yesterdays protests at the White House reminded me of the protests during Nam, the protesters then and now were openly supporting communist murders and condemned the efforts to support freedom.

The big difference is that back then we didn’t have open communists serving in Congress, the Propaganda Media was pretty much under hte control of the radical left so they showed only the people who supported the communist north.

We did have evidence that the war protests were b eing paid for by the Soviet Union and at all protests in the West t here were tables where they collected money to give to the “poor oppressed communists in Nam that were under attack by the evil Imperialistic United States.”.

We are once again seeing the radical left going on the attack, the difference is this time we have the alternative media to get the facts out despite the efforts of the Propaganda Media.

    • Setting things up for a claim of foreign intervention if/when the libs lose the election. Given how NZ has a parliamentary system a well planned propaganda campaign about foreign intervention could, possibly will bring down any political party that is attacked.

  6. India, Pakistan threatened to unleash missiles at each other: sources

NEW DELHI/ISLAMABAD (Reuters) – The sparring between India and Pakistan last month threatened to spiral out of control and only interventions by U.S. officials, including National Security Advisor John Bolton, headed off a bigger conflict, five sources familiar with the events said.

At one stage, India threatened to fire at least six missiles at Pakistan, and Islamabad said it would respond with its own missile strikes “three times over”, according to Western diplomats and government sources in New Delhi, Islamabad and Washington.

    • The sparring between India and Pakistan last month threatened to spiral out of control and only interventions by U.S. officials, including National Security Advisor John Bolton, headed off a bigger conflict, five sources familiar with the events said.

I believe Sassy said this was all smoke and mirrors with no real possibility of a major attack and a larger war.

      • The US frequently stops wars that the public never hears of. At one point, two African or Middle Eastern nations where at the brink and were headed to all out war when Georg Bush II sent ONE US carrier group to the border of the two nations without saying anything about why. Both countries felt the carrier group was on the other side so they both backed down and sorted it out without kinetics.

That shows what a force the US is for peace, but also the amazing ability to project force of just ONE US Carrier group.

        • Gunboat Diplomacy at its best.

But yes one Carrier Group can do amazing damage to any notion it is ordered to attack. Which is why Obama’s orders to not fly in to support the Bengazi fighters was sickening, (as was he refusal to let the Delta Force detachment in Italy at the time) move to support our people. There were 70 of the best shooters in the world geared up and ready to move when Obama ordered a stand down.

        • India Pakistan and the threat to Israel are the places where a nuclear exchange may take place.

One of these days the US won’t be able to stop the war from starting and going nuclear. We can take that as a given, we have to get lucky every time and no one can do that.

  7. Testimony: Steele used unedited CNN public blogging page to research part of dossier
By Daily Caller News Foundation March 17, 2019

Christopher Steele acknowledged in a July 2018 court deposition that he relied on a “random” article posted to a CNN website as part of his research for his infamous dossier.

In the July 13, 2018, deposition, Steele was asked about the research he did into Aleksej Gubarev, a Russian tech executive who Steele accused of hacking into Democrats’ computer systems. (RELATED: Judge Unseals Portions Of Christopher Steele’s Deposition In BuzzFeed Lawsuit)

According to a transcript of Steele’s deposition unsealed Thursday, Gubarev’s lawyer asked Steele what information he had gathered on Gubarev or his companies, Webzilla and XBT Holdings. Gubarev sued Steele and BuzzFeed News for defamation for publishing what he claims are false allegations that he hacked Democrats.

    • On page 2 I posted an article by Diana West from 2012 about the Saudi Prince buying a large amount of FOX stock.

      • Much like Tucker Carlson hobnobbing with the Koch brothers, the well-known Saudi influence upon Fox (e.g., 2005 banlieue festivities*) is very disconcerting.

        * From: Scandal Rocks Fox News Over Saudi Terror Link

The alleged al-Qaeda financier, Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, is a very close friend of Rupert Murdoch and his family, who control major media companies like News Corp and 21st Century Fox. The latter is now the parent company of the Fox News Channel.

The second largest shareholder in the Fox News parent company after the Murdoch family, Alwaleed has been addressed as “Your Highness” during his appearances on the network. His recent appearances have made him sound moderate, while denouncing Islamic extremism and the ISIS terrorist group.

Fox News is to be congratulated for reporting on a developing scandal that puts its chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Rupert Murdoch, in a very bad light.

A video posted by Alwaleed’s company, Kingdom Holdings, shows Alwaleed and Murdoch warmly embracing at one of several intimate meetings they have held over the years. Alwaleed has also met regularly with Murdoch’s liberal son, James Murdoch, the co-chief operating officer of 21st Century Fox.

Shortly after the September 11, 2001 terror attacks, Alwaleed offered a $10 million contribution to a 9/11 fund for families and victims. Then-New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani rejected the money because Alwaleed had blamed the terror attacks on U.S. Middle East policy.

Rosen, a hard-charging investigative reporter, really had no alternative but to cover the damaging disclosures. The allegations were made by Zacarias Moussaoui, the so-called 20th hijacker of 9/11, and provided in the form of a sworn statement to attorneys for families of 9/11 victims for their lawsuit against Saudi Arabia. He is serving a life sentence at a supermax prison in Florence, Colorado.

Fifteen of the 19 terrorist hijackers involved in the 9/11 attacks came from Saudi Arabia, and the role of the Saudi government and its top officials and citizens in the massacre of nearly 3.000 Americans on that day has been a matter of controversy ever since.

Rosen said Moussaoui’s sworn statement named Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal,“a leading Saudi businessman and major investor in the parent company of this network,” as one of the financiers of al-Qaeda.

But Alwaleed is much more than just an investor in Murdoch’s companies. He is also a personal friend of Murdoch’s who boasted in 2005 that a phone call to Murdoch resulted in the Fox News Channel altering its coverage of Muslim riots in France, in order to eliminate references to the religious affiliation of the Muslim extremists.

“I picked up the phone and called Murdoch and said that I was speaking not as a shareholder, but as a viewer of Fox. I said that these are not Muslim riots, they are riots,” Alwaleed reportedly said. “He [Murdoch] investigated the matter and called Fox and within half an hour it was changed from ‘Muslim riots’ to ‘civil riots.’”

  8. Australian teen eggs official who made controversial statement after mosque attack. Official strikes back
By LU Staff March 16, 2019

After the attack on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand that left 49 people dead and another 40 injured, an elected official in Australia, Senator Fraser Anning of Queensland, issued a statement decrying immigration by Muslims.

Like most Western countries, Australia has had domestic political conflict in recent years over immigration policy. Anning, an independent, is a member of a “far-right” coalition in the Australian parliament that seeks to tighten immigration policy and standards.

Anning’s statement (tweet below) received prompt and comprehensive backlash on social media.

  9. At age 15, Beto O’Rourke wrote a short story fantasizing about killing children, mass murder
By LU Staff March 16, 2019

Many presidents become authors after their presidencies, writing their memoirs. Beto O’Rourke, who is running for president in 2020, is already an author.

First, the back story as told by Reuters:

While a teenager, O’Rourke … belonged to the oldest group of computer hackers in U.S. history.

The hugely influential Cult of the Dead Cow, jokingly named after an abandoned Texas slaughterhouse, is notorious for releasing tools that allowed ordinary people to hack computers running Microsoft’s Windows. It’s also known for inventing the word “hacktivism” to describe human-rights-driven security work.

Members of the group have protected O’Rourke’s secret for decades, reluctant to compromise his political viability. Now, in a series of interviews, CDC members have acknowledged O’Rourke as one of their own. …

  10. Philippines Withdraws From International Criminal Court (sputniknews, Mar 17, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/asia/201903171073316614-duterte-philippines-icc/

“In 2018, Philippines authorities stressed that the country would leave the International Criminal Court; however, the withdrawal process takes at least 12 months, according to the official body’s regulation.

Starting this Sunday, the Philippines will no longer acknowledge the Rome Statute — the deal that established the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The state’s move follows President Rodrigo Duterte’s complaints with regard to the United Nations’ work; according to Duterte, the UN authorities attempted to represent Duterte as “a ruthless and heartless violator of human rights” amid his campaign against drug dealers.

He called their statements “baseless, unprecedented and outrageous attacks on my person”.
Last year, Manila expressed its intention to leave the International Criminal Court; however, at least 12 months are required for the withdrawal process to become complete, according to the official body’s regulation. In the same year, the ICC launched a preliminary investigation into President Rodrigo Duterte’s popular but controversial war on drugs, which has led to the extrajudicial killing of thousands of suspected drug dealers in police raids.

The Rome Statute, which was endorsed and signed by 123 countries in 1998 in Italy’s capital, became the foundation of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and gave the court jurisdiction over crimes against humanity, war crimes and genocide.”

  11. Indian Military Confirms Deploying NUCLEAR Subs as Tensions With Pakistan Flared (sputniknews, Mar 17, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/asia/201903171073315389-india-nuclear-sub-deployment-amid-pak-tensions/

“Tensions between the two nuclear-armed Asian powers escalated last month, after an incursion into Pakistani territory in Kashmir by Indian Air Force warplanes to strike at Jihadist militants led to skirmishes in the air and small arms and artillery fire along the shaky Line of Control border.

Major combat units of the Indian Navy including the INS Vikramaditya aircraft carrier-led battle group, nuclear submarines “and scores of other ships, submarines and aircraft” were quickly shifted from exercises to operational deployment as tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad escalated, India’s Ministry of Defence revealed in a statement Sunday.

“A clear and resolute message regarding the operational posture of the Indian Navy to prevent, deter and defeat any misadventure by Pakistan in the maritime domain was also issued during the tri-services press conference” on 28 February, the statement added.

The Defence Ministry did not clarify which “nuclear submarines” were deployed, although the Indian Navy presently has two kinds of nuclear-powered subs at its disposal, including a single Chakra (Akula II) class attack submarine leased from Russia, and the INS Arihant, an Indian-made ballistic missile submarine capable of firing up to 12 submarine-launched nuclear ballistic missiles. The Navy also has some 14 diesel-electric subs.

Indian warships were redeployed out of the Theatre Level Operation Readiness Exercise (TROPEX 19), an annual inter-service series of drills involving the Navy, Coast Guard, Air Force and Army, as tensions with Pakistan escalated after the 14 February terrorist attack on an Indian military convoy in Kashmir.

Earlier Sunday, sources speaking to Reuters reportedly said that India and Pakistan had threaten to lob nuclear missiles at each other during the crisis, and that only US officials’ intervention helped to defuse what may have well turned into a much deadlier conflict.
In early March, the Pakistani Navy released a video of what it alleged was an Indian submarine attempting to enter Pakistani waters as tensions between the two countries flared.

Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated in mid-February, after a Pakistan-based terrorist group reputedly affiliated with al-Qaeda* carried out a deadly car bombing attack against Indian security forces in Kashmir, killing at least 40 personnel. The Indian military responded by conducting airstrikes against a suspected terrorist training camp on the Pakistani side of the border on Tuesday, 26 February. A day later, the Pakistani Air Force scrambled fighters to counter a second Indian incursion into Pakistani airspace, leading to a dogfight and the loss of at least one Indian MiG-21 and one Pakistani F-16. Tensions continue to smoulder, with regular reports of airspace violations, military drills held in the sensitive border area, and back and forth allegations of ceasefire violations amid small arms and artillery fire along the Line of Control in Kashmir.

*A terrorist group outlawed in Russia and many other countries.”

    • I wish the reporters of the world would learn that being armed with nuclear weapons doesn’t make a Sub, Surface Ship, a nuclear ship. A nuclear ship is powered by a nuclear reactor. Also a missile that is capable of carrying a nuclear warhead isn’t a nuclear missile unless the nuclear warhead is in place.

      Am I nit picking?

Not really words have meanings and using htem wrongly can get wars started or people killed.

  12. At Least 16 Soldiers Killed After Gunmen Seize Army Base in Mali – Reports (sputniknews, Mar 17, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/africa/201903171073314730-mali-soldiers-army-base/

“According to media reports, armed men seized a military base in central Mali, leaving at least 16 soldiers killed.

Gunmen attacked and briefly seized a Malian army base, killing at least 16 soldiers and destroying five vehicles in central Mali’s Mopti region, according to officials.

According to an eyewitnesses, a man with an automatic weapon seized an army base and randomly opened fire at soldiers.

The base is situated in the village of Dioura, the mayor of the nearest town Kareri, Youssouf Coulibaly, said.

Mali currently suffers from long-lasting instability and simmering ethnic conflicts. There are about 20 ethnic groups, some members of which are reportedly connected with global terrorist organisations. At the same time, violence rocks neighbouring Burkina Faso, where recently at least 13 people were killed in an armed attack.

The situation in Mali was destabilized in 2012 when the Tuareg militants seized vast territories in the northern part of the country.”

  14. NGO Migrant Ferry Finds No Migrants After Three-Week Search (breitbart, Mar 17, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/03/17/ngo-migrant-ferry-finds-no-migrants-after-three-week-search/

“Sea-Eye, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) which ferried migrants to Europe, has claimed that despite a three-week search off the coast of Libya, they were unable to find a single migrant to “rescue” before returning to port in Mallorca.

The Alan Kurdi migrant ferry, named after the young boy of the same name who drowned and washed ashore in 2015 during the height of the migrant crisis, returned to Palma de Mallorca after three weeks at sea looking for migrants but finding none, Mallorca Zeitung reports.

Dominik Reisinger, mission leader on the vessel described the three-week trip as a success, saying, “It was a successful mission, we were there, we were well prepared, if there had been an assignment, we would have been there and could have helped people. Fortunately, it was not necessary.”

The weather on the Mediterranean was described as particularly fierce during the three weeks, with seven-metre tall waves.

While one radio distress call was received by the crew off the coast of the Italian island of Lampedusa, their offer to help was not replied to. “We hope that in these weather conditions nobody was on a dinghy at sea, which would have been deadly,” Reisinger said.

Since the tough border policies of Italy’s populist Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Matteo Salvini were enacted last year, the number of migrants from Libya has massively dwindled. In the month of January, the number was down 95 percent compared to 2018.

The stricter border controls, which have included a refusal to allow migrant “rescue” NGOs to dock in Italian ports, have led to many other organisations, including Doctors Without Borders (MSF), giving up their ferry operations entirely.

Even those who run migrant reception centres have slammed the previous open border policy of the former Italian government: last month, the head of the country’s largest migrant reception centre Francesco Magnano came out against open borders ideology, saying it had “created slums scattered throughout the country.”

“In our country, there are 600,000 denials. People who have lost not only the right to reception, but have lost their status, they are zombies who live in our country,” he added.”

  17. Christian Converts from Islam Regularly ‘Bullied’, ‘Threatened’ in Netherlands (breitbart, Mar 17, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/03/17/christian-converts-from-islam-regularly-bullied-threatened-in-netherlands/

“Dutch Christian relief organizations report that Muslim immigrants who convert to Christianity are regularly threatened or bullied, with some saying they get death threats “every single day.”

In an article published this week by Crux, a U.S.-based online Catholic news outlet, three former Muslims living in the Netherlands relate the hostility they suffer for their decision to convert to Christianity.

One man, an Iraqi national named Faradoun Fouad, said he converted in 1999 and soon after began receiving death threats.

“Directly after my conversion to Christianity I received the first threats. People who I thought were my friends, became my enemies,” he said.

“Even Muslims who are not very conservative told my wife that they would kill me,” Fouad said. “I’m still getting threats every single day.”

He said the threats take different forms, through phone calls or text messages, and even though he has reported them to the police several times, the threats continue.

In Islamic law, apostasy — conversion from Islam to another religion — is punishable by death.

Another convert by the name of Jassim, who immigrated into the Netherlands from Morocco, said he gets called names in public and also receives threats but has no regrets about becoming Christian.

“I finally found peace in my heart, and now I’m honestly happy. I’m now also praying for my family members who are Muslim. When I was a Muslim myself, I wasn’t allowed to pray for my Christian partner or for my atheist friend,” he said.

Jassim said that he, too, had printed out eight pages of threats and took them to the police, who advised him to keep his new faith to himself to avoid problems, which he has refused to do.

“It’s strange isn’t it? I’m not doing anything wrong, why would I need to hide? I live in a free country,” he said.

“You’re seen as a heretic,” he said.

A third convert, Esther Mulder, immigrated to the Netherlands from Somalia in 1992 together with her family and eventually came in contact with Christianity.

The first time she entered church she said she “immediately felt welcome” and yet also felt guilty for even being in a church.

“I constantly looked around thinking: ‘What if one of my family members comes in or someone from Somalia?’” she said.

“After my conversion, the threats started. Especially on Facebook. Most of the time they’re coming from other Somalis,” said Mulder.

“They write to me in Somali, so no one else is able to understand what they’re saying,” she said. “We once posted a picture of a Somali conference where everyone was standing in front of a cross. People didn’t like it and we received several threats.”

    • Too bad somebody can’t £ü¢kïñg spell the word, “against”. Or were they just more concerned with, “Seeing how popular their sorrow could make them” on Social Media than doing their job right?

Footage filmed near Baghouz on Saturday shows wives and children of IS militants fleeing the last IS stronghold in eastern Syria. IS family members fled the eastern Syrian village, after 1,300 fighters reportedly surrendered following intense clashes, according to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The wife of a fallen IS militant, who claimed her name was Saffyia, said that she had come to Syria from Istanbul “five years ago.” She said that she followed her husband to Syria, noting, “He came here, then I followed him.”

The wife of another killed IS fighter, a Finnish national who identified herself as Manija Kismar, said that she also had come to Syria with her husband and has been in the country for “three years.” According to Kismar, she first came to Idlib from Turkey, adding that “we walked through the mountains and crossed the border to Idlib.”

    • Syria: IS militants and family members still present in last Baghouz enclaves

Footage filmed on Saturday shows what seemed to be one of the last encampments of the Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) militants and their family members in Baghouz in Syria.

Vehicles, blackened building structures and tents were scattered around an area marked by an IS flag. People, including women and children, were seen navigating the area.

According to Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and based on intelligence acquired from captured IS members, close to 5,000 IS militants and family members are still in Baghouz.

  20. Taliban kill 22 Afghan forces in attack on checkpoints (abcnews, Mar 17, 2019)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/afghan-troops-missing-fleeing-battle-taliban-61740577

“An overnight Taliban assault on checkpoints in northern Afghanistan killed 22 troops, after some 100 Afghan forces fled heavy fighting in the country’s west last week and tried to cross into neighboring Turkmenistan, officials said Sunday.

The two battles mark the latest setbacks for the country’s battered security forces, who come under daily attack and have suffered staggering casualties in recent years. The attacks have continued even as the Taliban have been holding direct negotiations with the United States aimed at ending the 17-year war.

Mohammad Tahir Rahmani, head of provincial council in the northern Faryab province, said the insurgents launched the attack late Saturday against checkpoints manned by police and pro-government militias in Qaisar district, setting off a fierce gunbattle that lasted into Sunday morning. The army sent in reinforcements, who were among those killed.

He said another 20 Afghan forces were wounded in the attack.

“The Taliban have gained control of more areas in the district” after stepping up attacks in recent weeks, Rahmani said, adding that troops reinforcements have arrived from the capital

Provincial police spokesman Karim Yuresh confirmed that a large number of Taliban launched attacks in Faryab, but he could not immediately provide more details.

Last week, around 100 Afghan soldiers in the western Badghis province fled their posts and tried to cross the border during a weeklong battle with the Taliban, officials said Sunday.

Mohammad Naser Nazari, a provincial council member in Badghis, said the soldiers weren’t allowed to cross the border and their fate remains unknown. The Taliban have posted pictures of captured soldiers on social media.

Jamshid Shahabi, the provincial governor’s spokesman, said 16 soldiers have been killed and 20 wounded during the ongoing battle in the Bala Murghab district, in which the military carried out airstrikes and dispatched reinforcements. He said a number of soldiers tried to flee, without providing an exact figure.

Shahabi said more than 40 insurgents were killed in the fighting. He said the provincial police chief and army commander are in the district and instructing the forces to root out insurgents and rescue soldiers. Officials said the fighting had largely subsided by Sunday, with sporadic clashes breaking out in remote areas.

Nazari provided a higher toll, saying 50 soldiers were killed and around 100 others were missing. He said hundreds of local residents have gathered in front of the Badghis governor’s office to express their concerns about security in the province.

He said Bala Murghab is almost completely controlled by the Taliban, with Afghan forces confined to the district headquarters.

In a separate development on Sunday, an Islamic State affiliate claimed the killing of a local TV journalist in the eastern Khost province. The group did not say why it targeted Sultan Mahmoud Khirkhowa, a reporter with the local Zhman TV and radio, who was killed Friday when two men on a motorcycle opened fire on his vehicle. Another Afghan reporter was wounded in a targeted bombing last week in the southern Helmand province.

Afghanistan is among the most dangerous countries in the world for reporters. The Afghan Journalist Safety Committee reported 121 cases of violence against journalists and media workers in 2018, with 17 killed.”

  23. Michael White, a U.S. Navy veteran, has been sentenced to serve at least 10 years in prison in Iran, an attorney for his family said Saturday. White was detained while visiting his Iranian girlfriend in July 2018 on charges he insulted Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and posted a private photograph on social media.

Mark Zaid, the White family’s lawyer, told CBS News that White was sentenced to two years in prison on the charge of insulting the supreme leader and 10 years for posting the photo. Zaid said he believes the sentences are to run concurrently.

Zaid told The New York Times the White family was informed of the sentence earlier this week by the State Department, which learned of the sentence from Swiss diplomats representing American interests in Iran. White has been permitted to meet with the Swiss twice since his arrest, Zaid said. The State Department said Saturday it was aware of his detention but declined further comment due to privacy concerns.

  24. Reuters reporter deliberately withheld damaging info on Beto O’Rourke for a year
    By Rick Moran
In the November, 2018 election, Rep. Beto O’Rourke came within 3 points of toppling GOP incumbent Senator Ted Cruz. O’Rourke used that near miss and the excitement his candidacy generated nationwide to launch a bid for the Democratic presidential nomination last week.

But what if Cruz had slaughtered O’Rourke? It’s a relevant question because a reporter for Reuters deliberately withheld damaging information that would almost certainly have made a lot of Texans who ended up voting for him think twice.

The story by Joseph Menn ran on Friday and detailed O’Rourke’s membership in the notorious hacking group known as the Cult of the Dead Cow. While a member of the CDC, O’Rourke hacked online games and stole credit card numbers in order to make free long distance calls. That’s not only a serious invasion of privacy, but it’s also credit card fraud for which O’Rourke could have been prosecuted and sent to jail.

  25. RADICAL BASE? The mosque in Christchurch.
The parents of a man killed by a drone in Yemen say he was “radicalised” in Christchurch. But preachers at the city mosque say they are moderates.

Christchurch’s Muslim leaders say they are shocked and “disturbed” by claims two men killed in a drone strike in Yemen were introduced to radical Islam at their mosque.

Australian Christopher Havard, 27, and dual New Zealand-Australian national Daryl Jones were killed by a missile fired by a US drone in November.

Australia’s ABC news yesterday reported the pair had been on an Australian Federal Police watchlist because of their links to al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) terror group.

Havard and Jones – who went by the name Muslim bin John – reportedly met in Christchurch after Havard converted to Islam.

Havard’s mother and stepfather, Bronwen and Neill Dowrick, said their son joined the local mosque and told them that was where he first encountered radical Islam.

  26. According to a new investigation, one in three returned Islamic State fighters in Sweden have committed serious crimes after coming back from the Middle East.
The investigation, which looked into the activities of 41 Islamic State members who had returned from Syria and Iraq, found that all of those sentences or suspected of crimes, 13 people in total, were men, Swedish broadcaster SVT reports.

The crimes that the men have been either suspected or of convicted of have included serious offences such as the case of a 31-year-old man who was filmed by his neighbours attacking another man with a pair of scissors last July and is now looking at attempted murder charges.

  27. Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) said those who support President Donald Trump’s travel ban from high-risk countries and building a wall on the U.S. Mexico border are following the white supremacy agenda.

Host Jake Tapper asked, “You also said in a statement after the attack that you were angry at those who follow the white supremacy agenda in my own country that sends a signal across a world that massacres like this are some kind of call to action. Who were you specifically talking about?”

Tlaib said, “The ones that stay silent and the ones that support the Muslim ban. Not only once, but twice, three times did we in this nation say to the world and to everyone in this country that Muslims don’t belong here. From the fact that every time we talk about a wall, it’s not about a structure, but about xenophobia, it’s about racism. It’s a symbol in so many ways of targeting brown and black people in our country.

  28. MANILA — The Philippines officially withdrew from the International Criminal Court on Sunday, after the country’s highest court declined to overrule President Rodrigo Duterte’s decision to pull out from the world’s only permanent war crimes tribunal.

Manila announced it was withdrawing from the court a year ago, but under court rules, the withdrawal could not take effect for at least 12 months. The Philippines is the second country to withdraw from the Hague-based body after Burundi, which left in 2017.

Romel Bagares, a lawyer for a coalition of rights activists who had asked the Supreme Court of the Philippines for an injunction against the move, said the Philippine withdrawal was “a terrible setback in the long fight against impunity in the country.”

“It is our last resort when our institutions fail,” Mr. Bagares said of the international court, “and they have grievously been failing in the last two years, with apparent government inaction on thousands of deaths arising from the president’s drug war.”

  29. Montreal Gazette – Conservative MPs cancel reception with controversial U.K. speaker Baroness Cox after New Zealand mosque shootings

Cox has previously come under fire for making controversial comments about Islam, and has been accused of sympathizing with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad

OTTAWA — In the wake of a mass shooting at two New Zealand mosques on Friday that left 49 dead and many others seriously injured, Conservative MPs have cancelled an event planned for Monday in Ottawa that was to feature a controversial speaker who has been accused of Islamophobia.

Conservative MP Garnett Genuis announced Friday afternoon that the event would not be proceeding as planned. “Our friends in the Muslim community are now reeling from one of the most horrific and appalling terrorist attacks to ever target their community,” he wrote in a statement posted to Twitter. “Out of respect for them, now is not the time for a conversation that could have been misconstrued to take place on Parliament Hill.”

The reception planned for Monday, to be hosted by Genuis and Conservative MP Kelly Block, featured Baroness Caroline Cox, a member of the British House of Lords, as a keynote speaker, and was to promote women’s rights in the Middle East. However, Cox has previously come under fire for making controversial comments about Islam, and has been accused of sympathizing with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and seeking to legitimize his regime.

Liberal MP Judy Sgro, who had originally agreed to participate in the event, had previously withdrawn over concerns about Cox’s presence and sent a letter to Genuis and Block earlier this week. “It has come to my attention that Ms. Cox is a supporter of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and that she has promoted anti-Islamic rhetoric that is harmful to democracies around the world,” she wrote.

On Thursday, Liberal MP Omar Alghabra issued a statement criticizing Genuis and Block for moving ahead with the reception despite Sgro’s concerns. “I support freedom of speech within its legal boundaries, but if MPs choose to elevate such outrageous discourse, they need to answer for it,” he said.

Genuis initially defended Cox, telling CTV News in an email earlier this week that while he disagreed with Cox’s position on Syria, “she has been involved in many different human rights causes around the world, and the focus of this event is to discuss working towards the goal of gender equality and religious freedoms.”

But in his statement on Friday, Genuis acknowledged that Cox’s views “have been the subject of some debate,” and said the event should not proceed in the aftermath of the New Zealand mosque shootings.

Cox has been a vocal critic of Sharia law, arguing that Muslim women in the U.K. are being discriminated against under Islamic law. In 2017, she told the U.S. National Press Club that she isn’t “attacking the Muslim people,” but that she’s concerned about “the growth of a political, strategic Islam which is introducing policies which are antithetical to the values of our own societies and liberal democracy.” She has also warned that “Islam is using the freedoms of democracy to destroy it.”

Cox has travelled to war-torn Syria several times, as recently as 2018, and has questioned whether Assad used chemical weapons on his own people. She has also cast doubt on the U.K.’s decision to launch air strikes in Syria following reports of a chemical weapon attack.

“Baroness Cox’s continued lobbying in support of President Assad’s government has acted as a distraction from the brutal slaughter and war crimes being committed against Syrians,” Sgro wrote in her letter.

In 2010, Cox also hosted far-right Dutch politician Geert Wilders in the British Parliament, and invited him to show his film, Fitna, which has been criticized as anti-Islam.

In an email to CTV News earlier this week, Cox denied she is Islamophobic. “I work with, and have very affectionate relationships, with Muslim women’s groups in the U.K. helping them with problems caused by gender discrimination inherent in the application of Sharia Law in the U.K.,” she wrote.

The Conservatives also came under fire on Friday for Leader Andrew Scheer’s initial response to the mosque shootings, which did not mention that the victims were Muslim or that the attacks happened during prayers at mosques.

The party released a new statement after a public backlash, condemning the “cowardly and hateful attack on the Muslim community.”

  31. Surrey stabbing: Police say knife attack in Stanwell was ‘terror’ (express, Mar 17, 2019)
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1101414/surrey-stabbing-stanwell-terror-attack-uk-far-right-terror

“A STABBING in which a man went on a rampage with a baseball bat and knife while hurling racist abuse is being treated as a terrorist incident.

Counter terrorism officers and Surrey Police are investigating after the man was attacked in Stanwell on Saturday night. Officers were called at around 10.30pm to reports of a man acting aggressively and shouting racist comments while carrying the weapons in Viola Avenue where vehicles had been damaged. They then received another call reporting a man had been stabbed.

A 19-year-old man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and continues to receive treatment.

A 50-year-old man from the village was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and racially aggravated public order offences, Counter Terrorism Policing South East said.

Armed police attended and arrested a suspect who remains in custody.

A 19-year-old man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and continues to receive treatment.

It is believed the suspect for both incidents is the same man and officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the attack, police said.

Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu, head of counter terrorism policing, said: “While this investigation is still in its infancy, it has hallmarks of a terror event, inspired by the far right, and therefore it has been declared a terrorism incident.

“This allows us to use all of the specialist capabilities available to establish the full circumstances of this attack.

“Police are committed to tackling all forms of toxic extremist ideology, which has the potential to threaten public safety and security.”

Officers will be out on patrol in the area and visiting places of worship and businesses, he said, and urged any witnesses or anyone who sees anything suspicious to report it to police.

Detective Superintendent Karen Mizzi, of Surrey Police, said it was a “shocking and worrying incident”.

This is a breaking story. Updates to follow.”
