Los Angeles Is Dealing With A Deadly, Flea-Borne Typhus Outbreak
The city of Los Angeles is suffering from an outbreak of a “middle ages” and “pioneer days” disease —typhus — typically found in homeless populations.
The outbreak began in October, according to CNN, with 57 cases of the flea- and flea feces-borne disease in downtown Los Angeles, not typically a hotbed of rare diseases. That was up from around 6 cases over the summer, all found in people “experiencing homelessness.”
According to L.A. public health officials, there were more than 120 reported cases of typhus in 2018, and that number is increasing steadily in the first months of 2019.

My previous article for FrontPage Magazine focused on specific threats to the United States that were linked to border security issues raised in the January 29, 2019 Senate Intelligence Committee hearing on Worldwide Threats that was itself predicated on the Intelligence Community’s just-released World-Wide Threat Assessment.
I used the information disclosed at the hearing and contained in that threat assessment report about the dangers to America created by transnational criminal organizations and translational gangs such as MS-13 and the drug cartels in Mexico, as well as the crimes and activities of human traffickers that support the Trump administration’s demands for a border wall, a wall that unbelievably, the leaders of the Democratic Party adamantly oppose.
However, the report included much more material about other global threats that confront the United States and its interests. Simply stated, the world is a dangerous place.
Among the other threats addressed in the report were those posed by China, Russia, Iran and North Korea.
Today we will take a hard look at China and how its aggressive and relentless pursuit of global dominance threatens America.
Before we go any further, we must remember that China is led by a totalitarian Communist regime that is not an ally but rather a serious adversary of the United States.

The British Jewish community has spent the better part of two years protesting British Labour boss Jeremy Corbyn. Major figures across the political spectrum, both Jewish and non-Jewish, have protested Corbyn’s tolerance and promotion of anti-Semitism within Labour.
This is, by no stretch of the imagination, a “right-wing” or even exclusively Jewish thing, unless you consider J.K. Rowling either one.
Into this atmosphere, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, who already has spent far too much time hanging out with anti-Semites while wrongly trying to appropriate Jewish identity, has stepped into it. Some of her radical anti-Israel associates, like the notorious Julia Salazar, have gone even further.

Israel is Now the Target of the ‘Teaching of Contempt’
The hypocrisy of the UN International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

For many centuries, Christianity put into practice the ‘’Teaching of Contempt” against Jews. Because of it, Jews have suffered enormously, particularly during the Crusades and the Inquisition, and during endless pogroms, which culminated with the Holocaust. On Sunday, January 27, 2019, the United Nations (UN) designated International Holocaust Remembrance Day was observed. A day in which supposedly the world “remembered” the six million Jews murdered by the German Nazis and their many helpers throughout Europe, during World War Two. The antecedents leading to the Holocaust can be found in the “Teaching of Contempt.”
It was the false interpretation and reading of the New Testament, including the gospel according to John, and the synoptic gospels of Mark, Matthew 27:25 (Jews are allegedly saying according to the author “May the guilt for his (Jesus’) blood be upon us and upon our children”) , and Luke (who is also the author of the Acts), as well as the misinterpretation of the Pauline letters (especially 1 Thessalonians 2:13-16), which turned anti-Judaism into a violent pursuit that ultimately led to the Holocaust. While we commemorated the 74th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz death camp by Soviet troops, we must sadly note that church-led anti-Judaism has turned into racial anti-Semitism in the 19th and 20th centuries. In the 21st century, the “Teaching of Contempt” against Jews, which the Catholic Church, under Pope John Paul II, graciously denounced (“In the Christian world, I am not saying on the part of the church as such, enormous and unjust interpretations of the New Testament relative to the Jewish People and their presumed guilt circulated for too long, engendering sentiments of hostility toward this people (Jews),” has turned now into “Teaching of Contempt” against the Jewish state, particularly at the UN and in Europe.

“The United States turned over a communications and operations center to the Niger army to help the African nation battle Boko Haram, a statement said.
The planning and operations control center, worth $16.5 million (€14.4 million), is designed to help Niger forces synchronize its operations through improved communications, U.S. Ambassador Eric Whitaker said during the handover ceremony on Monday, February 4.
Niger has taken on an important geostrategic role in the U.S. fight against Islamist groups in Africa, and the center known as a C2 Node comprises two tactical operations units equipped with sophisticated communications material.
It aims to “streamline pertinent battlefield information to commanders, so that they can best employ their forces,” a copy of Whitaker’s remarks said.
The U.S. has already provided Niger with Cessna C-208 surveillance planes, armored personnel vehicles and small craft known as mud boats, along with other equipment and training.
“We believe all these capabilities are critical to helping Niger defeat Boko Haram and other terrorist organizations,” Whitaker said.
The U.S. operates an aerial drone base in Agadez that provides surveillance of Boko Haram units and others allied with Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb that operate along borders with Libya, Mali and Nigeria.

The U.S. Has Wasted Billions of Dollars on Failed Arab Armies
The U.S. has spent 70 years and tens of billions of dollars training Arab militaries – with almost nothing to show for all the effort. The U.S.-trained Egyptian Armed Forces performed miserably in 1991 during Operation Desert Storm. The U.S.-trained Iraqi Army collapsed when attacked by a couple thousand Islamic State zealots in 2014. The U.S.-trained Saudi military fell flat when it intervened in Yemen in 2015.
In recent years, Americans have begun to eye an exit from the Middle East, but few want to walk away and have Iran, Hizbullah, the Islamic State, al-Qaeda, or other U.S. enemies take over. In an ideal world, America would leave behind strong Arab allies, able to defend themselves from their common foes. But that seems far away today.
A series of problems have haunted Arab armies throughout the modern era. The Arab world never really industrialized, and this meant that many Arabs came to the military without much understanding of advanced machinery.
As a result, Arab personnel often failed to get the full potential out of their weapons and invariably failed to maintain them properly, with the result that the real numbers of tanks, planes, and artillery pieces they could field were far fewer than what they had purchased.
Generations of U.S. military personnel who went off to the Middle East to try to teach one or another Arab army to fight like the U.S. armed forces can attest to the stubbornness of these problems.
Because the problems they were trying to fix stemmed from these societal factors, I heard the same complaints over and over again, from country to country and decade to decade.

“French fighter jets on Sunday carried out air strikes to halt an armed group that entered northern Chad from Libya in a column of 40 pickups, the military said, adding that it acted at Chad’s request.
In a statement on Monday, February 4, the military said that Mirage 2000 fighter jets intervened “together with the Chadian army to strike a column of 40 pickups of an armed group from Libya” which had “penetrated deep into Chadian territory.”
“This intervention at the request of Chadian authorities helped hinder this hostile advance and disperse the column,” the statement said.
Aircraft first conducted a ‘show of force’ maneuver above the column in the morning, but “progress continued despite this warning,” and a second Mirage 2000 patrol conducted two strikes in the afternoon, the army said.
The aircraft are based near Chad’s capital N’Djamena, as part of France’s Operation Barkhane counter-terrorism force in the Sahel.
“The column had been spotted at least 48 hours beforehand,” armed forces spokesperson Patrik Steiger told AFP.
The Chadian airforce carried out strikes to try to repel it before asking the French to intervene, he said.
On Sunday morning, French planes made low warning passes over the column but it continued to advance, triggering a decision to scramble more fighters, which carried out two strikes at around 6 p.m. Paris time.
Steiger said the group had crossed 400 km (250 miles) of Chadian territory before being halted “between Tibesti and Ennedi” in the northwest.

Michael Moore says Dems need to accept far-left Ocasio-Cortez as party leader: ‘No middle ground anymore’
Documentary filmmaker Michael Moore declared U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez the new leader of the Democratic Party, while urging political moderates to take a position because there “is no middle ground anymore.”
“She is the leader. Everybody knows it. Everybody feels it,” Moore said of the freshman congresswoman from New York during a Friday interview on MSNBC.
Moore said the age requirement to run for president – 35 – should be constitutionally amended so that Ocasio-Cortez could make a play for the White House. He said Ocasio-Cortez is the leader of a movement, citing a Fox News poll that showed voters favored her proposal to increase the tax rate to 70 percent for the richest Americans.

San Francisco — where drug addicts outnumber high school students
San Francisco has more drug addicts than it has students enrolled in its public high schools, the city Health Department’s latest estimates conclude.
There are about 24,500 injection drug users in San Francisco — that’s about 8,500 more people than the nearly 16,000 students enrolled in San Francisco Unified School District’s 15 high schools and illustrates the scope of the problem on the city’s streets.
It’s also an increase of about 2,000 serious drug users since 2012, the last time a study was done.

How using Facebook in France can get you fired
Fifteen years to the day, Mark Zuckerberg launched the friend-finding website Facebook. It’s now the world’s biggest social network with an estimated 2.3 billion monthly users. France counts around 35 million. But using Facebook at work here can prove perilous, as several employees of rival online giant Amazon found out.
Amazon, the world’s largest online retailer and one of Facebook’s fiercest competitors, has used “disloyal”, pro-Yellow Vest posts as a motive for sacking employees.
Several staff were sent packing for showing support for the Yellow Vest movement on their Facebook accounts. Amazon said they had shown a serious lack of loyalty in encouraging or participating in blockades against their own employer.
According to Le Parisien newspaper, Amazon issued letters of dismissal to a member of staff in Montélimar and two at the site in Lille. Their behaviour was described as “totally contrary to the company’s values”.
‘Black out Friday’
The warehouse employee in the southern town of Montélimar was fired for comments he posted on his Facebook page on 22 November 2018, a day before the Black Friday worldwide shopping phenomenon.
“Honestly, guys, you deal with it, don’t give an inch, just one watchword: Friday will be a ‘Black Out Friday’, don’t give an inch… I’ll be with you when I’m not working.. block everything,” he said referring to the ‘Yellow Vest’ blockades at his warehouse.
The employee in question has opted to take his former bosses to court.
The head of the CGT union at Amazon in Montelimar told RFI it was the first time he’d seen someone sacked over a Facebook post.
“I’ve sometimes heard of people being summoned because they’d been denounced by colleagues, but this has happened on two sites at the same time: one in Lille and this one in Montélimar.
“It suggests human resources have been rummaging around in employees’ Facebook accounts.”
Attack on fundamental freedoms
The idea that human resources would spy on staff is unsettling; some workers at the Montélimar depot have shut down their accounts.
But employment lawyer Avi Bittion says the sacked warehouse worker has a good chance of winning his case.
“The employer has to bring categorical proof that the employee was at fault,” he explains. “And when that concerns social media posts, it’s complicated.
“The other problem is that the employer is attacking fundamental freedoms: freedom to demonstrate and the right to strike. You can’t sack a member of staff on the basis they either called for, or took part in, a strike.”
Claims Facebook encouraged Yellow Vest movement denied
The Yellow Vest movement began on Facebook in November 2018 and continues to use social media to structure groups at local level.
In an interview with Journal du dimanche, Laurent Solly, one of Facebook’s vice-presidents, insisted “Facebook has neither created nor amplified this movement”.
But social media specialist Fabrice Epelboin is more sceptical.
“The change in Facebook’s algorithm a year ago means it no longer prioritises pages or medias, but groups, ways of organising yourselves around a project,” he told France Culture public radio.
“The algorithm change also privileges friends you are geographically close to,” he says, “hence the emergence of the Yellow Vest movement.”

“Saudi Arabia will study how its male guardianship system is being abused, Saudi media reported on Monday, after the flight of an 18-year-old woman to Thailand last month focused global attention on the issue, says Reuters.
Every Saudi woman is assigned a male relative – often a father or husband but sometimes an uncle, brother or even a son – whose approval is needed to marry, obtain a passport and travel abroad.
Rights groups say the arrangement turns women into second-class citizens, depriving them of social and economic freedoms and making them more vulnerable to violence.
Without a codified system of law to go with the texts making up sharia, or Islamic law, the Saudi police and judiciary have long cited social customs in enforcing certain prohibitions on women. Many aspects of guardianship stem from informal practices rather than specific laws.
Saudi public prosecutor Saud al-Mojeb said his office would “spare no efforts in protecting individuals, whether women, children or parents, from unfair treatment by those who abuse guardianship powers,” according to English daily Saudi Gazette.
His office receives only a small number of complaints about guardianship, he added, without providing details.

Erik Prince made a name for himself as the founder of Blackwater, a private military contractor that did business in Iraq. Exposed: aggressive UAE-led campaign to strip Qatar of FIFA World Cup (memo, Feb 4, 2019)

“The UAE has employed the services of a British Conservative MP and a London-based public relations firm in a campaign to paint Qatar in a negative light and strip the Gulf country of the honour of hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Details of the lengthy campaign have been exposed by the New York Times.
It is alleged that a little-known consultancy, Cornerstone Global Associates (CGA), worked with the UAE to link Qatar to the Muslim Brotherhood and terrorism through the careful placement of articles and reports in the media. In its efforts to scuttle the 2022 tournament or, failing that, to humble Qatar by forcing it to share the event with its political enemies, CGA staff met with several key anti-Qatari officials, including British MP Damian Collins. In the meeting, the head of CGA, Ghanem Nuseibeh, is alleged to have revealed to Collins details of a Qatari “plot” to employ CIA operatives to try to undermine its main rivals for the hosting rights of the 2022 football tournament.
Two months later, in July 2018, Britain’s Sunday Times published what it billed as a bombshell: “Exclusive: Qatar Sabotaged 2022 World Cup Rivals With ‘Black Ops.’” The article, which did not name its sources, revealed some of the topics related to Qatar’s World Cup bid and quoted Collins urging FIFA to investigate the allegations and, if true, strip Qatar of the hosting right.
Prior to spearheading an anti-Qatar campaign on behalf of the UAE, CGA had actually offered its services to the government in Doha. According to the NYT, the PR firm is said to have laid out a plan in 2010 to assist Qatar with its mounting public relations problems. The Qataris declined the offer, one of several that had arrived unsolicited during that summer.
In the years since, CGA appears to have become involved closely with the UAE, which has led efforts to discredit its Gulf neighbour, especially since 2017, when it joined Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Bahrain to cut diplomatic ties with Doha.
While Qatar has been ostracised regionally, the UAE has led efforts to paint its neighbour in a negative light around the world. In Washington, it has financed a broad campaign hoping to use American journalists and think tanks to tarnish the small Gulf state. The NYT admitted that it too received several batches of documents from an anonymous source last year. Over a period of several months, the source, who claimed to be someone close to CGA who had become disillusioned with how football was being politicised, answered questions relating to the disclosure of encrypted email. The NYT said that it was able to confirm independently some of the meetings and conversations described in the documents, which appear to fit the pattern of the Gulf’s continuing tit-for-tat information war.
The campaign took an aggressive turn following the start of the Saudi-UAE-led blockade of Qatar in mid-2017. The breadth and specifics of the campaign to hamstring Qatar’s FIFA World Cup are laid out in documents that reveal close ties between CGA and individuals and companies in the UAE.
According to the NYT, one CGA document outlines a plan to produce a report linking Qatar to the Muslim Brotherhood, and several others discuss efforts to place articles in the British news media that would damage Qatar’s reputation. However, after the initial flurry of negative headlines, and after CGA’s impartiality was called into question, the BBC changed the online version of its report on the matter to soften some of the allegations made by the company.
The NYT was unable to name the source of the anti-Qatar campaign but insisted that there was a close link between Cornerstone Global Associates and the UAE, including a $1 million wire transfer that is thought to have been paid to disclose damaging information about the World Cup bid.
A prominent libel lawyer cited in the report acknowledged that CGA is a client and expressed “grave concerns” about the “unlawful accessing of data” that he believed had been “misinterpreted and taken totally out of context.”
CGA’s latest bid to strip Qatar of the FIFA World Cup is an article in the Irish Times hailing the potential for a huge “economic windfall” for Britain if the tournament is stripped from Qatar and handed to England instead.”

France: Vest-clad demo south of Paris warns Macron ‘year of yellow’ awaits
French President Emmanuel Macron was met by Yellow Vest protesters on his visit to the Parisian suburb of Evry-Courcouronnes on Monday.
Macron announced in December that he wanted to speak with citizens outside of the big cities of France, in what he called the ‘grand debat national’ over the future of France.
The visit to Evry-Courcouronnes was the first he made to a banlieu since the beginning of his tour.

“Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Egypt’s Al-Azhar mosque and university, called on Muslims in the Middle East to “embrace” local Christian communities, says Reuters.
He addressed Muslims saying: “Continue to embrace your brothers the Christian citizens everywhere, for they are our partners in our nation,” he said during a televised speech from a ceremony in the United Arab Emirates capital Abu Dhabi, also attended by Pope Francis.
Then he addressed Christians saying:

Sheikh Tayeb also called on Muslims in the west to integrate into their host nations and respect local laws.

“Two men were taken to hospital by ambulance after a fight broke out on board a commuter train at Stockholm’s Arlanda airport on Monday afternoon.
Police were called to the train shortly after 5pm.
The initial report stated that they had received a call “about a row on board the commuter train at Arlanda. It soon emerged that two people had been found with knife injuries on the train”.
Details were scarce shortly after the incident and the extent of the men’s injuries was not immediately known.
A third man was immediately seized and held on suspicion of attempted murder or manslaughter.
The train in question was taken out of traffic to be examined by police forensic officers, but otherwise trains were running as normal (there were however other delays due to the snowy weather in Stockholm).
The Uppsala-Stockholm train is used both by people travelling to and from work in northern Stockholm, but also by tourists and business travellers flying via Arlanda, Sweden’s largest airport. The train station is buried underground and can be reached from the airport via its restaurant and shopping hub Sky City.
A witness told the Aftonbladet tabloid that the suspect had been seized by security guards before police arrived. “[He] was handcuffed and dragged out through Sky City by security guards. He resisted a lot and called the police officers various inappropriate names,” said the witness, who was not named.”

The ruling party can no longer preserve its politico-religious speech following scandals that have involved its politicians and leaders.
CASABLANCA – Morocco’s ruling Islamist Justice and Development Party (PJD) is going through turmoil amid growing division between its leaders over scandals involving its politicians.
The PJD’s popularity dwindled following personal photos of an unveiled female member of parliament in Paris that were shown by Moroccan media.
MP Amina Maelainine initially said that the picture with her exposed hair blown by the wind in front of the Moulin Rouge in Paris was fabricated and denounced a “slanderous” campaign against her. She later admitted on Facebook that the photos were genuine.
“I would like to point out that the pictures are not new and have already been sent to some of the party ministers and some members of the secretariat who briefed me a few months ago,” Maelainine said, warning that she would prosecute anyone who harms “my reputation and my family.”
Maelainine rose to fame in the political scene with her eloquence and interventions in the media. She is the seventh vice-president of the Souss-Massa region and seventh vice-president of the House of Representatives.
Ousted Prime Minister and former PJD Secretary-General Abdelilah Benkirane, known to be close to Maelainine, went quickly to her defence.
“I blame you for not coming to see me during this controversy to confer with me. If you had asked me for advice, I would have told you that nobody has the right to ask you anything about this question. You are free and it’s a personal matter,” Benkirane told Maelainine during a meeting at his house.
However, Prime Minister and current PJD Secretary-General Saad Eddine El Othmani disagreed during PJD national council session.
“The party’s commitment to its Islamic repository is an exercise and not an illusion, we must ensure that we are always attached to it,” said Othmani. “We must set an example, especially those who are at the forefront of public opinion.”
Benkirane, who attended the session, warned “the veil is not a work outfit as some demons have said.”
“Our sisters carry it by belief and conviction,” Benkirane said.
Political analyst Hafid Ezzahri said the PJD, which has been dubbed as the party of “pink stories,” was going through a serious internal crisis because of Maelainine.
“Maelainine’s case took another path after Moroccans called on the ruling party to clarify its official public discourse on the matter as PJD leaders continue to show their divisions over the matter,” said Ezzahri.
Maelainine’s photos prompted wide condemnation of her “hypocrisy” among Moroccans and some politicians.
“The hypocrites will end in the depths of hell. It is clear that today we must unmask the contradictions of the Islamists,” said Secretary-General of the Unified Socialist Party Nabila Mounib during a party event in Tetouan.
Many Moroccans took to social media to address the contradiction between PJD politicians’ public speech and their private behaviour, reminding them that they were not immune from criticism as public figures.
“Why did Maelainine take off her veil in France? Is it halal to do it in the West and haram (illegal) in her own country? A double-faced politician cannot be trusted,” civil servant Abdellatif Saaidi said.
Ezzahri said the rift in the PJD will likely result in resignations and that the ruling party can no longer preserve its politico-religious speech following scandals that have involved its politicians and leaders.
He referred to the case of Labour Minister Mohamed Yatim who was photographed holding hands with his physiotherapist in Paris, pictures that filled the front pages of Moroccan newspapers last September.
Yatim later formalised his relationship with his physiotherapist although his wife refused to grant him permission to remarry.
In September 2016, one month before parliamentary elections, two senior members of the Movement for Unity and Reform Movement — PJD’s religious and ideological wing — were arrested on charges of lewd behaviour in public.

A hardline Muslim preacher has declared Allah will punish any Islamic man who uses a wall-mounted public urinal and gets ‘splash back’ on his shoes.
Nassim Abdi, from the ultra-conservative Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jammah Association, has told worshipers at a western Sydney mosque those who failed to clean themselves properly after urinating would be punished ‘in the grave’.
The Auburn-based preacher accused Muslim men of imitating non-believers, also known as kafirs, by exposing their private parts at wall-mounted urinals in public toilets.
‘A person using them is urinating in full view of anyone, who comes and goes, with no shame in the midst of impurity,’ he said last week at the end of a 32-minute religious lesson.
‘Thus he can combine two apparent and forbidden acts in one deed, not hiding his private parts from the view of others nor cleaning himself properly after urinating.’
Mr Abdi, who has previously declared it sinful for a wife to refuse her husband’s demand for sex, said Muslims who urinated incorrectly would invalidate their prayers.
‘You’re also, when you’re urinating, you’re getting splash back,’ he said.

Mr Abdi’s denunciation of public urinals comes two years after fellow ASWJ preacher Abdulghani Albaf gave an angry sermon at the same mosque, above the Bukhari House Islamic Bookstore at Auburn, in Sydney’s west, on the same topic.
‘Every public or every male public toilet now has urinals where they just stand up like animals and urinate in front of one another,’ he thundered.
‘What’s worse is we even have Muslims using these urinals.’
Mr Abdi, a fundamentalist Sunni Muslim, has previously declared it sinful for those of the Islamic faith to wish Christians a Merry Christmas.
