Contributor’s Links post for February 3rd, 2019

Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We muse use it while we can.

According to a media report, the former SS man and Nazi criminal Karl M. was the victim of an attack. The 96-year-old had become known nationwide through a TV interview in which he had, among other things, relativized the Holocaust.

The former SS man Karl M., who had been covered by the ARD policy magazine “Panorama” in November, was apparently attacked and robbed in his apartment in Nordstemmen south of Hanover on Thursday. M. confirmed this by telephone to the NDR on Friday. The convicted Nazi war criminal had given an interview to “Panorama” reporters last November, justifying a massacre in France in 1944 in which he was involved, and relativizing the Holocaust.

The police in Sarstedt (Hildesheim district) merely confirmed that there had been an attack in Nordstemmen yesterday. The responsible public prosecutor’s office in Hildesheim could not be reached for a statement at first, reports the NDR.

Whether the attack has a criminal or political background is open. Karl M. suspects that the act is connected with his public statements at “Panorama”: “The broadcast made me nationwide known, but that was certainly not your intention,” he told the NDR.

According to Karl M., on Thursday two people who had posed as postmen had penetrated his house in Nordstemmen. They had tied him to kitchen furniture. The 96-year-old was injured in the process. The two perpetrators then packed files, other documents and valuables. Cash and cheque cards were also taken. “They took their time,” M. told the NDR about the procedure. The perpetrators then fled.

A short time later, an employee of the nursing service had discovered and freed the 96-year-old. According to him, a rescue service took care of him, but he refused to be admitted to hospital.

  3. Leaked Audio Reveals Italian PM Telling Merkel ‘Salvini is Against Everyone’ (breitbart, Feb 3, 20109)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/02/03/leaked-audio-reveals-italian-pm-telling-merkel-salvini-is-against-everyone/

“A leaked audio recording from the recent World Economic Forum conference in Davos between Italy’s Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel has revealed the Italian PM’s determination to take in migrants.

The conversation between the two leaders took place on the sidelines of the conference and the leaked audio centres around the migrant policy of populist Interior Minister Matteo Salvini Il Giornale reports.

In the clip, Chancellor Merkel asked, “So Salvini is against France and Germany and Di Maio is against France?” to which Conte responded, “Salvini is against everyone.”

Conte also mentioned his frustration with Salvini’s policy of not allowing migrant rescue vessels to dock in Italian ports, a move that has reduced new arrivals in January by 95 percent compared to January 2018.

“He closes everything, there’s no space, it’s different for me,” Conte said, and added, “do you remember Malta, when I said, ‘Women and children, I’ll take them by plane.’ Because Juncker told me: ‘Salvini says all ports are closed.’ I said, ‘OK, it means I’ll catch them on the plane!’ We’ll take them, of course, of course, but Angela, do not worry, I’m very determined.”

Conte also mentioned the recent downturn in the polls for the Five Star Movement, of which he is a member, telling Chancellor Merkel, “The Five Star Movement is suffering. They are very worried … they go down to 27-26 percent, so they ask themselves what are the themes that can help us in the electoral campaign.”

Conte went on to add that many in his party see France as an opponent but Germany as an ally, to which Merkel said, “It’s a very simplistic approach.”

The comments from Conte are just the latest crack in the Italian populist coalition after several Five Star senators outright opposed the migration and security decree drafted by Salvini.”

  4. Pope seeks dialogue on first papal trip to Arabian Peninsula (abcnews, Feb 3, 2019)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/pope-seeks-dialogue-papal-trip-arabian-peninsula-60811707

“Pope Francis is seeking to turn a page in Christian-Muslim relations while also ministering to a unique, thriving island of Catholicism as he embarks on the first-ever papal trip to the Arabian Peninsula, the birthplace of Islam.

While Francis is building on two of his priorities with his Sunday-Tuesday visit to the United Arab Emirates — promoting interfaith dialogue and visiting the Catholic peripheries — diplomatic protocol will likely dictate that he leaves other concerns behind.

The Emirates’ support for Saudi Arabia’s war in Yemen, which has caused the world’s worst humanitarian crisis, and the UAE’s problematic record on human rights and labor violations at home will likely will get a pass — at least in public.

Francis is travelling to Abu Dhabi to participate in a conference on interreligious dialogue sponsored by the Emirates-based Muslim Council of Elders, an initiative that seeks to counter religious fanaticism by promoting a moderate brand of Islam. It’s the brainchild of Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb, the grand imam of Egypt’s Al-Azhar, the revered 1,000-year-old seat of Sunni Islam learning that trains clerics and scholars from around the world.

It will be the fifth meeting between Francis and el-Tayeb, evidence that Al-Azhar’s freeze in relations with the Holy See sparked by Pope Benedict XVI’s 2006 comments linking Islam to violence has thoroughly thawed.

In a video message to the Emirates on the eve of his trip, Francis paid homage to his “friend and dear brother” el-Tayeb and praised his courage in calling the meeting to assert that “God unites and doesn’t divide.”

“I am pleased with this meeting offered by the Lord to write, on your dear land, a new page in the history of relations among religions and confirm that we are brothers despite our differences,” Francis said.

In a statement Saturday, Al-Azhar described the upcoming meeting as “historic” and praised the “deeply fraternal relationship” between its imam and the pope, which it said even includes birthday greetings.

Francis and el-Tayeb are to address the “Human Fraternity Meeting” Monday that has drawn not only Christian and Muslim representatives but hundreds of Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist and other Christian faith leaders. It’s all part of the Emirates’ “Year of Tolerance” and its effort to show its openness to other faiths in a region otherwise known for severe restrictions on religions outside of Islam.

“It’s something new for the Muslim world, that within the discussion of dialogue, they’re talking about interreligious dialogue across the board,” beyond basic Christian-Muslim relations, said Marco Impagliazzo, president of the Sant’Egidio Community, a Rome-based Catholic organization active in interfaith relations who will be attending the conference.

Francis’ other main initiative in Abu Dhabi is a giant Mass on Tuesday in the city’s main sports arena that is expected to draw some 135,000 people in what some have called the largest show of public Christian worship on the Arabian Peninsula. There, Francis will see firsthand a Catholic community that is big, diverse and dynamic, at a time when the wider Mideast has seen an exodus of Christians fleeing persecution at the hands of the Islamic State group and others.

Of the over 9 million people now living in the UAE, around 1 million are Emirati while the rest are foreigners drawn to the oil-rich federation to work in everything from white-collar finance to construction.

The Catholic Church believes there are some 1 million Catholics in the UAE. Most are Filipino and Indian, many of whom have left behind families for work and can face precarious labor conditions, which human rights groups regularly denounce.

“The church has a unique role because it becomes home,” said Brandon Vaidyanathan, chair of the sociology department at Catholic University in Washington, who grew up in Dubai. “It becomes a place of belonging” in a country where foreigners can live, work and practice their faith but will never gain citizenship.

Vaidyanathan, who converted from Hinduism to Catholicism while living in Dubai, said the Emirates’ religious tolerance is commendable given the trends of the region. He noted the “unprecedented” nature of the government’s invitation to Francis, its donation of lands for churches and even a recent decision to rename a mosque “Mother Mary of Jesus.”

Yet he pointed to the difference between freedom to worship and true religious freedom. Crosses, for example, can only be displayed inside churches, proselytizing for faiths other than Islam is banned and Muslims are forbidden from converting.

Francis will likely focus on issues of religious freedom and fraternity in his public remarks. Unlike all his other foreign trips, he will not deliver a political speech.

Vatican spokesman Alessandro Gisotti said the reason was to give greater emphasis to his speech to the interfaith conference. He dodged a question about whether Francis would raise Yemen’s yearslong war in his private talks with the sheikh. The UAE is deeply involved in the Saudi-led war in the Arab world’s poorest country, where tens of thousands have been killed and millions face food and medical shortages.

“I don’t know if the Holy Father will confront it publicly or privately, but certainly on many occasions, even recently, he has underlined the need to search for peace in particular to guarantee the humanitarian rights of the population, especially children,” Gisotti said.

Aid groups working in Yemen hope Francis won’t just rely on his past appeals, but will use his visit to bring his message to the Emirati leadership.

CAFOD, the overseas aid group of the Catholic Church in England and Wales, recently joined a coalition of British humanitarian organizations in appealing for Yemen’s limited cease-fire to hold so that humanitarian aid can reach the most vulnerable.

“We have confidence in the greatness of the pope to be our advocate and the advocate for the Yemeni people,” said Giovanna Reda, CAFOD’s head of humanitarian programs for the Middle East.”

  5. Nauru migrants: Last four children to leave island for US (BBC, Feb 3, 2019)
    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-47107179

“Australia says the last four migrant children detained at a camp on the Pacific island of Nauru are being moved to the US.

The children will be flown with their families as part of a resettlement deal agreed with Washington.

Australia has held asylum seekers arriving by sea on Nauru since detentions began there in 2013.

Last August it held 109 children. Australia refused to resettle them under its tough immigration policies.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said “every asylum seeker child has now been removed from Nauru… or has a clear path off the island”.

He said that children would no longer be detained there.

The organisers of a campaign to have all children removed from Nauru and resettled, #KidsOffNauru, welcomed the news, saying it gave children a “safe and permanent home” and the “chance to just be kids”.

Since 2013, the Australian navy has been ordered to tow or turn back asylum seeker’s boats.

Under the controversial policy, people have been detained in centres on Nauru and Manus Island in Papua New Guinea.

According to the latest figures provided by the Refugee Council of Australia, more than 1,200 asylum seekers were believed to still be on the islands in November. About 600 people were believed to be on each island.

Last year, the US agreed to resettle some of the refugees from the offshore detention centres. More than 100 refugees have since been relocated.

Australia’s processing centre for asylum seekers on Nauru has long been plagued by allegations of human rights abuses.

Doctors and human rights groups have for months been calling for all child migrants and their families to be evacuated from the island.

In October, several children were transferred to Australia from the island’s detention centre to receive medical treatment amid a mental health crisis.

Australia maintains that its refugee policy prevents deaths at sea and discourages people smugglers.

The number of asylum seekers travelling to Australia by boat rose sharply in 2012 and early 2013. Scores of people have died making the journey.”

    • He said that children would no longer be detained there.

What happened, did the commissary stop carrying shaving supplies?

    • Thousands of police officers and staff ‘not properly vetted’

Since it’s so late in the game, let’s go to Plan B and switch over to animal hospital jargon … Like what the nurses there mean when they say, “Rover was dropped off early to get vetted before lunch”.

Pence to pennies the general crime rate would drop if these nearly six thousand Peelers were given a right thorough vetting.

  6. “This protest today (Jan 25, London) called by Inminds (among several other activist, media and human rights’ groups) was originally conceived as an urgent demand for the release of PressTV journalist Marzieh Hashemi, snatched whilst on a family visit to the US by the FBI without rhyme or reason, but the event was extended to target a wider area of injustice following the welcome release of Marzieh earlier in the week. The so called material witness law under which she was grabbed has been used on many other occasions by the US authorities to arbitrarily detain innocent victims of the Bush/Obama/Trump administration investigators for questioning and worse. The demonstration was just one of a number of coordinated world wide gatherings today which will hopefully help influence Washington to call a halt to such an ugly inhuman and (one would have hoped) Unamerican form of policing”.

  7. Iraqi novelist shot 13 times in Karbala by group of gunmen (kurdistan24, Feb 3, 2019)
    http://www.kurdistan24.net/en/news/4462aea2-ceec-41a1-88c3-cd38d733a5f1

“An Iraqi novelist and cartoonist was killed on Saturday evening by unidentified gunmen in a heavily guarded neighborhood of the holy city of Karbala.

Alaa Mashzoub was shot 13 times by an armed group in the neighborhood of Maitham al-Tammar as he was making his way home by bicycle, a security source in Karbala told Kurdistan 24.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the assassination of Mashzoub.

Karbala police in its late-night statement said it had launched an immediate investigation into the “heinous crime” and would bring those “trying to destabilize the city” to justice.

“Our city is safe, stable, and will remain a city of peace and security,” read the statement issued by police.

Authorities have yet to reveal any details regarding the possible motive behind the killing. Iraqis and activists on social media networks, however, speculated he was likely to have been killed over his political views and open criticisms of politics in the region…”

          [hyper-cynical]

Some might view this as a good thing because the sooner all
“moderates” have been liquidated, the faster whichever remaining jihadist goons will finally commit an atrocity of such mind-bending proportions that, when the dust ash finally settles, Islam will no longer play even a bit part on the world stage.

Just like there are imams who would rather see every last man, woman, and child on earth perish—with Muslims in their paradise and the kuffar (that’s you and me) rotting in everlasting perdition—rather than share planet earth with even a single unbeliever.

It is precisely these types (much like über-Prog, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez) who will smilingly trigger massive human die-offs in the name of Postmodernist Cultural Marxism eternal struggle.

  10. How ‘Blade Runner’ and ‘The Running Man’ predicted 2019 — decades ago

Two classic science-fiction films — “Blade Runner” and “The Running Man” — are both set in 2019, and although the films envisioned a few details that aren’t a reality right now, many of their themes nailed current modern life in America.

“I call science fiction ‘reality ahead of schedule,’” Syd Mead, the celebrated designer behind “Blade Runner,” tells The Post.

Watch these films now, and you can see many parallels between their fictional worlds and the real one we’re living in this very year.

Ridley Scott’s 1982 film “Blade Runner” told the story of a detective (Harrison Ford) tasked with hunting rogue humanoids known as “replicants,” played by Daryl Hannah and Rutger Hauer. “The Running Man,” which hit theaters in 1987, concerned a police officer (Arnold Schwarzenegger) falsely imprisoned by the totalitarian state and made to perform on a top-rated game show, which forces convicts to run from heavily armed pursuers through a dystopian maze.

    https://nypost.com/2019/02/02/how-blade-runner-and-the-running-man-predicted-our-lives-decades-ago/

    • I can see why they chose the films to illustrate how close the SF authors and directors came to the reality we are living in. As all of the regular readers know I prefer books so the books that predicted the current mess are more vivid to me then the films, which I watched and enjoyed. Other things that were predicted were schools that don’t teach the students to read (Null ABC, H. Beam Piper) Britain having an authoritarian government and massive violence (Clockwork Orange, Anthony Burgess). There were also a lot that had the West fighting the Caliphate at roughly this time, and Poul Anderson had Western and Eastern Europe destroyed in a multi decade war.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump said that sending the military to Venezuela was “an option” and that he had turned down President Nicolás Maduro’s request for a meeting.

“Certainly it’s something that’s on the – it’s an option,” Trump said in an interview broadcast on Sunday on the CBS “Face the Nation” program. “Well he has requested a meeting and I’ve turned it down because we’re very far along in the process.”

  12. Trump wants U.S. military in Iraq to ‘watch Iran’: CBS interview

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump said it was important to keep a U.S. military presence in Iraq so that Washington can keep a close eye on Iran, according to a CBS interview to be broadcast on Sunday.

Trump said the United States spent a fortune on a base in Iraq. “We might as well keep it. One of the reasons I want to keep it is because I want to be looking a little bit at Iran because Iran is a real problem,” he said in excerpts from a CBS “Face the Nation” interview.

Asked if that meant he wanted to be able to strike Iran, Trump said, “No, because I want to be able to watch Iran.”

  13. Northam offers head-scratcher of an alibi – and highlights Democrats’ biggest political need
    By J.E. Dyer February 3, 2019

On Saturday, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam retracted his previous admission from Friday, deciding after reflection that he was not in the photo that appears on his 1984 yearbook page depicting a man in black-face next to a man in a Ku Klux Klan outfit. (See video at the bottom.)

Although it was never clear whether Northam was disavowing his appearance as either character, there were a couple of clues in his oddly worded, somewhat surreal disclosures after the night of reflection.

One clue was that he claimed to now have certitude about the 1984 photo because he had, in fact, performed that same year in a dance contest, wearing black-face to moonwalk like Michael Jackson. Since that event was so – as it were – indelible in his hippocampus, it stands to reason that he’d remember if he were in the yearbook photo.

Right. Well. Aside from the unbearable inanity of that whole line of excuse, it’s at least not implausible that he was imitating Michael Jackson in 1984. Jackson’s iconic “Billy Jean” moonwalk burst on the world in a TV broadcast in 1983, and was in fact wildly popular at the time.

    https://libertyunyielding.com/2019/02/03/northam-offers-head-scratcher-of-an-alibi-and-highlights-democrats-biggest-political-need/

    • She makes two points about this mess, 1) with RBG missing and the very real possibility that Trump will be able to appoint a 3rd person to the Supreme Court the actions by the VA Governor will make it much harder for the Dems to do a credible character assassination on the nominee. 2) She makes the point that the VA Governor refusing to resign makes it harder for Mueller and the Dem lynch mob to find anything that can be used against President Trump.

She is thinking clearly about the future and the effects of the refusal to resign. The Dems on the other hand are calling for him to resign but are also saying, “Well that was a long time ago and we need to forget this and concentrate on the current problems.”

This is a current problem and it is doing a lot of damage to the Dems. It also points out the need for a free and independent media and not a bunch of paid propaganda idiots.

              Excerpt Six:

It’s been said that government, like fire, is either a dangerous servant or a fearful master. Think about that for a moment. Even if government is no bigger than our Founders wanted it to be, and even if it does its work so well that it indeed is a servant to the people, it’s still a dangerous one! As Groucho Marx once said of his brother Harpo, “He’s honest, but you’ve got to watch him.” You’ve got to keep your eye on even the best and smallest of governments because, as Jefferson warned, the natural tendency is for government to grow and liberty to retreat. You can’t wind it up and walk away from it; it takes eternal vigilance to keep it in its place and keep our liberties secure.

  14. Proxy war in Venezuela?

    https://www.foxnews.com/world/why-russia-china-are-fighting-us-push-against-venezuelas-maduro

Russia and China want to reciprocate American support of countries near their borders like Ukraine and Taiwan.

IMHO this would be manageable but for the forces of globalism that we learn are working against our interests of freedom. Our enemies are without, and within. Domestically, we are divided between those of us who retain common sense and notice the threats, and those who are captured by a normalcy bias drunk on the kool-aid of postmodernism. After all, how truly absurd are native land claims and 75 genders? If half the population isn’t shaken out of their sleepy tree by such ludicrous ideas then they really are hypnotized.

I ask myself why this rise of socialism, particularly in the U.S.? I understand the attraction of it to the free shit army. I understand its appeal to bureaucrats who don’t understand that real wealth is only created by risking capital in productive enterprise. We can even deepen our understanding of socialism’s sick appeal by venturing into the writings of Perfect Child here on this site. For those of you who cannot bear the burden of responsibility of your own existance, read PC. Otherwise screw off.

What I don’t understand is why it appeals to the super rich. Why are those who got where they are by capitalism embracing global socialism? They are not weak. They are not dumb. And I won’t presume them to be evil. They are just human. But where is their sense of ethics? What are their ethics?

The more I learn the less I feel I know. What I do know is that one rule in business is that you must always put your company first. In all considerations, under all duress or opportunities, the welfare of the company is the priority of its owners. For the majority of businesses, which are small, this mandate begs no broader considerations. Even large businesses national in reach don’t threaten our existance, from what I can see, until they get into the lobbying racket. That’s when trouble starts. I suppose this is where the prime consideration for every business owner–that being the welfare of his business–starts to have an ethical component to it. The governing ethic of the business’s creator is the health of his creation. Any philosophical considerations outside of this are secondary. Yes, it is a narrow vision but necessarily so. Global warming? Sure. Migration as a human right? Why not? Once you see the planet as one big pot ‘o humanity, and you’re a global player, you quickly grasp the nuisance that sovereign borders represent. If only we could have more uniformity between regions and fewer obstacles to the flow of capital, say the oligarchs behind closed doors. Our business models would be healthier. Voila. Ethics case closed. Golden rule followed.

Socialism ain’t what it used to be. The Internet of Things (ty NR…) has made possible a whole new model. George Soros and Jeff Bezos et al don’t give a hoot about anything other than their own golden rule. Climate change being a global ruse enables the unencumbered flow of capital. Yes it’s a false ethic of saving the planet based on junk science, but it’s good for business. Global socialism is good for global businesses. So why did Soros turn on Facebook and Zuckerberg? Because Zuckerberg got clumsy. He got outed by that whole bad corporate culture revelation and the censorship scandals that continue to this day. He hurts the narrative now more than he helps it, so he has to go.

Clearly, the scams must be globally massive in scope to be meaningful. Think globally, act locally may as well be the mantra. The new socialism must be international. Erase sovereign borders by pushing humanity over the fences. Give it a single currency. Give it one government. Suppress competition to the new aristocracy once you’ve set up shop by eliminating cash.

It’s becoming clearer by the day. Here in the snowy Dystopia petrie dish the next big thing we see is controlling the internet. Peskie bloggers must be silenced. It’s a race whether or not the only clear voice of freedom and common sense, Maxime Bernier, can seize power before new laws strengthen Dear Leader’s grip on Freedom’s throat. Regardless, democracy, not freedom, is dead. Everywhere. It cannot defend against its enemy’s army of human rights lawyers and mass media tearing it limb from limb from within. Freedom, however, always fights on.

Russia, China and other dictatorships don’t worry about globalism. If its manifestations set foot on their territories they just kill it. As it dismembers the West it will only represent opportunities to grab market share. The future is in dictatorship. Both good and bad. Open, free societies are fair game to the likes of Open Borders. Between technology and the now-solidified power of Bezmenov’s demoralization, democracy won’t survive as we know it. We had a good run.

The best we can do is benign dictatorships that put their own people first by standing guard to invaders. Sorry, but how can anyone conclude otherwise with a straight face. If Trump leaves only one legacy (of course he will leave many) it will be about how his election illuminated the fervent enemies of democracy.

The coming economic crisis will see the prescient make moves as quickly as the speed of dark, and light. They will grab territory and market share. Maps will be redrawn.

Only nations that value themselves will survive. That’s where I’ll go.

    • Regardless, democracy, not freedom, is dead. Everywhere. It cannot defend against its enemy’s army of human rights lawyers and mass media tearing it limb from limb from within. Freedom, however, always fights on.

You are probably right, democracy is dead in Western Europe and the coming civil wars in North America will probably kill it here. While I have never read about any Dictatorship in history that was benign we might get lucky and get one. After the civil wars we are going to have to rewrite our Constitutions and at the very least return to the ideas that voting is a privilege and that only those who are willing to jump through some hoops will earn the privilege of voting.

Here in the States it use to be that it was difficult to register to vote, only those who were willing to take the time to go through the process could vote. This was to ensure that only committed people could vote. The left started pushing to lower the voting age and to make it easy for not only citizens but also non citizens to register to vote. They (the left) has continued to push for easier and easier registration so they can get people who have no idea what is happening to vote in blocks for the leftist bribes to continue. We need to return to the time when it wasn’t easy to register and you had to take the time to go to a voting station to vote. The vote by mail, the early voting and the same day registration and voting is designed to allow the left to steal elections.

Canada needs to establish something like the electoral collage that prevents a few big cities from controlling the US government.

Both nations need to establish one house of Congress/Parliament that is the peoples house and then the other house is the States/Provinces house that looks after the rights of the State/Province. The US use to have this with the Senate being the States house with the Senators being appointed by the State Legislature. some time around 1900 this was changed to direct election by the people and the left has slowly chipped away many rights and powers from the States. The US needs to return to Federalism with each layer of government having clear responsibility and rights. When the US Constitution was written it was understood that no one layer of government or branch of the Federal government could be allowed to gain excessive power. The idea was to create a government that was so clumsy it could barely work, thus ensuring the people would remain free.

Will we (in the US) return to the original idea of how our government should work or will we end up getting a Dictatorship that may or may not be benign? My friends to the North are going to have to make the same decision after we get through counting the bullets in the civil wars.

      • I don’t know about the existance of benign dictatorships either. When I think of the concept, though, I think about how Pinochet did what was needed to get rid of communism in Chile. It could be argued that his actions saved lives when the death toll of worldwide communism is considered.

        • I thought of him, he was as close to a benign dictator as I know of but he still fell short.

Given what is coming we will probably see several people try to be a benign dictator, who knows one or two may succeed. I would prefer for us to find some way to ensure that only committed people vote but doubt that that system would last long given the way agitators would work to recreate the current mess.

  15. Bill Maher blasted for stereotyping black ex-CIA agent
By Ben Bowles February 3, 2019

Surely, reliably far-left talk show host Bill Maher knows where the line is. That didn’t prevent Maher, who also fancies himself a comedian, from pinning a racial stereotype on a black guest.

Maybe Maher believed he was on safe ground because said black guest — former CIA operative and current GOP congressman Will Hurd — is a Republican, and as any liberal can tell you, a black Republican is fair game for attack. Just ask black right-wing political activist Candace Owens, who was at breakfast with Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk last August when a flash mob associated with Antifa descended on their table and began shouting profanities and slogans including “No More White Supremacy.”

Or ask Hurd. According to the Daily Mail, Maher cut to the chase early on in the interview when he asked Hurd why he is a Republican. That preposterous question by itself should have landed Maher in the doghouse, but libs are in agreement that blacks who align themselves with the Right are traitors or “Uncle Toms.”

In any case, the interview went downhill from there:

  16. WaPo to air ad during Super Bowl on importance of journalism
By Howard Portnoy February 3, 2019

Yesterday was Groundhog Day. Apparently Punxsutawney Phil espied his shadow, because the media circus known as the Super Bowl is still scheduled to be played tonight. Last year’s Super Bowl drew the lowest ratings in eight years, primarily because the “big game” has become a stage for the airing of political grievance. T-Mobile spent $10 million on a Super Bowl ad last year that didn’t even advertise phones.

This year the cost of advertising will set another new record: A 30-second spot will average $5.25 million — this despite the fact real football fans don’t want politics mixing with their sport.

Among the pitches viewers who do tune in tonight will see is an ad on “the importance of journalism” paid for by The Washington Post. CNN reports, the spot will pay “tribute to the importance of journalism and journalists throughout history and today”:

  17. Manchester shooting: Girl, 15, to have surgery after being shot in street in random attack (express, Feb 3, 2019)
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1081886/manchester-news-shooting-droylsden-police-latest

“A 15-YEAR-OLD school girl is due to have surgery after she was shot in a random attack while “walking down the road” in Greater Manchester.

The girl was rushed to hospital after being shot in the back of the legs as she walked down Edge Lane, in Droylsden. Greater Manchester Police Chief Inspector Mark Warner said the “shocking incident” had left the seriously injured teenager needing surgery to remove pellets which police believe came from an air rifle. A manhunt has been issued after the attack, which happened close to the Halfway House pub at around 7.15pm, on Saturday evening. Police patrols have been ramped up in the area.

Greater Manchester Police Chief Inspector Mark Warner called for anybody with information to come forward.

“My thoughts are with the girl after this shocking incident,” he said.

“On the information we have at the moment this would seem to have been a random attack with complete disregard for the potential consequences – the girl was just walking down the road when she was shot at, now she requires surgery.

“We would like to hear from anyone with any information that could help us, please get in touch as soon as possible.

“This could have been you, this could have been your child and we want to find those responsible.

“The police investigation will leave no stone unturned, we want to be able to give the girl and her family all the answers they deserve.”

Anybody with information should contact police on 0161 8569 260, call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

  18. Far-Left Extremists Take Credit for Firebombing French Radio Station

Far-left anarchists have taken credit for firebombing an office of France Bleu Isère, denouncing the French radio broadcaster as being part of an “industrial hypnosis collective.”

The offices were attacked Sunday night in the French city of Grenoble, with one office inside being partially destroyed by fire, France Bleu reports.

Credit for the attack was published on Tuesday on a well-known website linked to the far-left anarchist movement in France with a statement that read, “A lot of people leak news about the media to criticise them, they do not leak gasoline in their buildings to set them on fire.”

  19. Massive Migrant Caravan Expected to Reach Texas Border Monday or Tuesday

Thousands of Central American migrants left a Mexico City shelter Thursday to resume their journey northward toward the U.S. border. The 2,400-strong caravan precedes a much larger group of asylum seekers south of the Mexican border that is heading to America for better economic opportunities.

Friday morning, 1,890 of them were seen boarding buses and semi trucks, courtesy of the state of Querétaro, Mexico.

“Each state seems to be providing buses and in this case, semi trucks to help them move forward,” Fox News’ Griff Jenkins reported. This group of migrants is headed toward Piedras Negras, a Mexican border town across the Rio Grande from Eagle Pass, Texas, according to Jenkins. They expect to arrive at the border within four or five days.

    https://pjmedia.com/trending/massive-migrant-caravan-expected-to-reach-texas-border-monday-or-tuesday/

    • You can tell that the caravans are politically motivated by the way they make sure the news media knows about their leaving Honduras and traveling through Mexico. They advertise for people to come to the States and make it clear that they goal is to push past the Border Guards and enter the US no matter what our laws say. The radical left is using these illegal aliens as their foot soldiers in the war to make the US ungovernable. They (the far left) uses the illegals in Europe the same way and look at how many of the European nations are collapsing, some in slow motion and some gathering momentum as they speed to a full fledged civil war.

  20. Eh? People, apparently sane, float idea of Alberta Province leaving Canada, joining U.S.

    Alberta: Our 51st state? {Richard: I doubt if they would become a state over night, they would probably be offered status as a territory. Which is a good deal for them, people living in a territory don’t pay any Federal Taxes. This is because they don’t have any representatives in Congress. (No Taxation Without Representation), This status would last until the Albertians have had time to learn how our government is suppose to work. }

Alberta as our 51st state is not as far-fetched as it sounds at first blush. The idea was written about by Peter Zeihan in Accidental Superpower (2014) and recently broached by Holman Jenkins, Jr. in no less than the Wall Street Journal. Before diving into the politics and practicality of a Alberta leaving Canada, let’s first review some background to see why such a traumatic event could even be considered.

Unlike the U.S., which is netted together with the world’s best river system and a favorable geography and climate, Canada is the opposite. Zeihan shows that three barriers split Canada into five largely autonomous regions. They are the Rocky Mountains, the Canadian Shield, and the St. Lawrence River. He says:

  21. American Military Superiority ‘Seriously Eroded’

American military superiority has eroded seriously in the last decades. This was the conclusion of the latest report by the National Defense Strategy Commission, a bipartisan body charged by Congress to evaluate the U.S.’ defense capabilities.

The commission said the erosion was to such a “dangerous degree” that “America’s ability to defend its allies, its partners, and its own vital interests is increasingly in doubt.”

The report further stated, “If the nation does not act promptly to remedy these circumstances, the consequences will be grave and lasting.”

  22. “The Furor Over the Führer”
    By Victorino Matus – February 3, 2019

    Excerpt:

But how Hitler died is less interesting than why all the rumors persisted.

It was in Stalin’s interest, the authors suggest, to spread the story of Hitler’s escape. The very notion of a noncommunist country granting the dictator secret asylum was meant to undermine the West. But the Soviets also spent a considerable amount of energy promoting the idea that Hitler had indeed taken cyanide—the coward’s way out.

A handful of bunker survivors were subjected to imprisonment, torture, and interrogation by various Soviet ministries in order to extract the “truth” about Hitler’s demise. When the interrogators did not get the right answer, they would simply repeat their questions—a process that went on for a decade.

But none of the Nazi prisoners—including pilot Hans Bauer, adjutant Otto Günsche, and personal valet Heinz Linge—changed their story about the Führer’s death by gunshot. (The Soviets also held captive Hitler’s prosthetic technician and dental hygienist, both sentenced to 10 years’ forced labor.)

Hanan Razek met two people who explain how they risked everything to flee from Saudi Arabia.

  24. Frankfurt am Main (AFP) – Hundreds of people demonstrated Saturday in Stuttgart, the bastion of Germany’s car industry, against a recent driving ban on older diesels, wearing yellow vests to match protesters in France whose movement began as a reaction to proposed fuel hikes.
Since January 1, only diesel vehicles meeting the Euro 5 emissions standard are allowed into Stuttgart, home of Mercedes-Benz maker Daimler, Volkswagen subsidiary Porsche and the world’s biggest car parts supplier Bosch.

The demonstrators held banners saying “Pro-diesel” and “Diesel drivers mobilise” as they gathered outside a car emissions centre.

“What’s happening to people is unjust,” joint organiser Vasilos Topalis told AFP.

“Tens of thousands of people are affected and can’t afford to buy a new car” following the court-ordered ban, he added.

Environmental organisations last year took to the courts to push through similar driving bans in many German cities where emissions exceed European Union limits.

Judges ordered Berlin, Mainz, Hamburg and Bonn to limit some diesels’ access, while parts of a motorway near Essen will be closed to the cars.

“They provide everything. It’s good. Compared to U.S., it’s five star,” he says of the hotel, which offers refugee claimants cleaning services, telephone, WiFi, cable, laundry machines and a monthly food allowance of $600 for his family. Hotel units also include kitchenettes.

  27. Bill Clinton’s Faith Healer Arrested for Running Biggest Ever Child Sex Ring

Police have arrested Bill Clinton’s faith healer for running Brazil’s largest ever child sex ring.

Joao Teixeira de Faria – known as John of God – achieved international fame after being interviewed by Oprah Winfrey and having a list of famous clients, including Bill Clinton.

Two months ago, his world crumbled after police discovered evidence that he was a mass murderer, baby trafficker, and sex slave ringleader.

Mirror.co.uk reports: The 77-year-old was arrested a week later in what prosecutors say could be the worst serial crimes case in the country’s history.

Faria’s own daughter, Dalva Teixeira, has also spoken out, called him a “monster” and claiming he molested her as a child.

The case has shocked Brazilians, many of whom regarded the so-called ‘psychic surgeon’ – famous for performing procedures such as removing tumours or cataracts with his hands and without anaesthesia – as a modern-day miracle worker.

And last week even more explosive acccusations have been thrown at John of God.

‘John of God’ faith healer ‘kept teenagers as sex slaves and sold their babies for up to £40,000 before shipping them from Brazil to Europe’
Ross Ibbetson For Mailonline 1 day ago
A celebrity faith healer – John of God – sold babies for thousands as he impregnated teenage slaves he kept at his rural gem mines and farms in Brazil, an activist claims.

Joao Teixeira de Faria, 77, was arrested on December 17 on the outskirts of Abadiania, in rural Brazil on rape charges.

He became a wanted man after a bombshell late night chat show on Brazil’s Globo TV network aired accusations from ten women of abuse at his Casa de Dom Inacio de Loyola in Abadiania.

Now the activist Sabrina Bittencourt – whose investigations lead to his arrest – claims he operated a sick ‘farming’ operation which exported babies on the black market.

  29. Gay men are increasingly voting for anti-LGBTQ right-wingers, says new study

In the 2018 U.S. midterm elections, 82% of LGBTQ voters voted for Democrats, America’s more pro-LGBTQ political party. But in many other Western countries “right-wing and virulently homophobic parties enjoy considerable support among gay voters,” says Samuel Huneke, a gay historian at Stanford University who studies modern European culture.

Huneke looked at voting data from 14 elections in five Western countries — the US, UK, France, Germany and Brazil — and then published a recent article on the troubling phenomenon. It it, Huneke observed:

LGBT voters in other [non-U.S.] countries were less likely to support the conservative (or in some cases far-right) party by an average of only seven percent. And when you look only at gay men, the results are even more striking. In other countries, gay men were, on average, more likely than the general electorate to support the conservative or far-right party.

Well basically, it’s way too late for any gay wokeness. The entire LGBTQXYZ goon squad has betrayed and enraged Middle America (“Heather Has Two Mommies” back in 1989, anyone?), so many times to where their few misfit percent*—especially of combat-ready or trainable individuals—makes any unlikely “Rainbow Coalition” (or risk of infiltration) counterproductive, good PR or not.

During an interview with on “The Daily Show,” Omar explained how she never tried to be anti-Semitic but she understands how her comments could be deemed anti-Semitic. The most interesting aspect: Omar compares her being blind to her anti-Semitism to white people who don’t understand they have “white privilege.”

There are so many things wrong with this interaction.

    1) If Omar was truly interested in learning how to change her ways and her thinking, she would come out and say, “I’m an anti-Semite but I don’t want to be. Can you please help me?” She would be upfront and honest about it. She wouldn’t be so wishy washy about where she stands. And she wouldn’t make an excuse for why she thinks the way she does.

Al-Hijrah school in Birmingham is still segregating boys and girls despite a Court of Appeal ruling in 2017 that found it was unlawful, according to Luke Tryl, director of corporate strategy at Ofsted.
Addressing the women and equalities select committee, he said that Ofsted inspectors are trying to hold schools account for discriminating against girls but feel “isolated” when their stance is not backed up by ministers.
Mr Tryl said that Al-Hijrah school was enforcing a “very strict gender segregation” which included “denying the girls to have their lunch until the boys had had theirs”.
“And we had some very discriminatory texts for instance, encouraging violence against women”, he added.
He said that Ousted welcomed the Court of Appeal’s ruling that gender segregation within the school fell foul of equalities laws, but despite the case concluding in mid-2017 the school has still not de-segregated.

Rand Paul (R-KY) wrote, “Sometimes, there are federal grants that perfectly encapsulate everything broken with the federal scientific research subsidization industry. One such grant is the much-popularized “quails on cocaine” study….” He was referring to an NIH-funded project in which quails were given cocaine and their sexual habits were observed in order to study “cocaine use and risky sexual practices” that have already been observed in humans. A veteran Los Angeles City Hall official is one of the latest victims of an epidemic of the infectious disease typhus that continues to worsen across LA County.

For months, LA County public health officials have said typhus is mainly hitting the homeless population.
