The demonstration was timed to the anniversary of the current coalition government coming to power in 2017. The coalition consists of the conservative Austrian People’s Party (OVP) and Freedom Party of Austria (FPO).
The participants of the rally mainly protested against the migration policy of the Austrian authorities, as well as demanded to reduce the working day and cancel the austerity measures.
Because of the protest, many streets in the city centre were blocked, and the movement of ground public transport was seriously affected.
The demonstration took place without incidents.
Since 2015, Europe has been facing an acute migration crisis, with scores of refugees arriving there to flee conflicts and poverty in the Middle East and North Africa. Austria is among the European countries willing to diminish the influx of migrants.”

Speaking to CNBC’s Hadley Gamble at the Doha Forum in Qatar, Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif dismissed claims that Iran is the cause of instability in the Middle East.

Zarif noted that the instability in the region was caused by “the wrong policies that are being followed, not only by Saudi Arabia but by its allies in the West who have given it a blank check to continue to make these very dangerous escalations.”

Earlier today Zarif reiterated that Iran has never provided weapons to the Houthis, noting that Saudi Arabia is interested in increasing tensions in the region, with the minister highlighting the examples of the blockade of Qatar and the military operation in Yemen as proof.
International aid organizations and governments have been urging Saudi Arabia and its allies to halt its airstrikes, as 12 million people in Yemen are facing starvation. Five international aid groups penned a statement earlier this month warning that if Washington did not end its support for the Saudi-coalition, it too “will bear responsibility for what will be the largest famine in decades.” On Thursday, Saudi-supported Yemeni government representatives and the Houthis agreed to a cease-fire in the critical port city of Hodeidah, making the most significant step toward peace since the start of the war.
Zarif also slammed actions by the US, noting that it was Trump’s government who had the “violated the nuclear agreement.”

“Ruba and Saqib both carry a gene for an incurable condition, which means their children have a one-in-four chance of dying in early childhood. They’ve already lost three. Ruba now wants IVF, to select a healthy embryo. Saqib is putting his trust in Allah. And some relatives want them to separate and remarry.
Ruba Bibi had not wanted to marry so young. She had planned to do A-levels and go to university, but before she had finished her GCSEs her parents arranged for her to marry Saqib Mehmood, her cousin, in Pakistan.
Born and brought up in Bradford, Ruba had visited Pakistan twice before the wedding – once when she was four and once when she was 12. She couldn’t really remember the man she was now engaged to and had never spent time alone with him. He was 27 and worked as a driver. She was 17.
“I was really nervous because I didn’t really know him,” she remembers.
“I was really shy, I couldn’t talk much and I hadn’t ever had any interest in boys or anything like that. I was scared and asked my parents to delay things to let me finish school, but they couldn’t.”
After three months in Pakistan she was pregnant. She returned to Bradford two months later, shocked to be having a baby so soon. But also happy.
When their son, Hassam, was born in 2007 she excitedly called Saqib to tell him that all was well, although the baby seemed to sleep a lot and had trouble feeding.
“I just thought it was normal,” Ruba says.
A few weeks later she went for a check-up, and as the GP watched Hassam moving she noted that his hip seemed stiff.
“She said she was going to refer him, but I thought it was something minor. They did some tests and then I got a call saying I had to come to the children’s ward for his results,” Ruba says.
“When I went in, the doctor told me it was very bad news. She gave me a leaflet and said he has this condition and it’s very rare. It was too much for me to take in and I was just crying. I came home and rang my husband in Pakistan, who tried to calm me down. He told me that everyone goes through problems and that we would get through this together.”
Ruba had no idea that both she and her cousin carried the recessive gene for I-cell, a rare inherited condition that prevents a child growing and developing properly.
Seven months later Saqib received a visa to live in the UK, and was able to hold his son for the first time.
“He said he looked like normal baby. He wasn’t sitting or crawling, but my husband said some children were just slow,” Ruba says.
She, however, could see a big difference between her son and other babies the same age. Hassam was growing slowly, and was in and out of hospital with chest infections. And as he got older his head increased in size.
When their next child, Alishbah, was born in 2010 tests confirmed immediately that she, too, had I-cell disease. She died at the age of three, towards the end of 2013 – just over a year after her elder brother.
Before getting pregnant a third time, Ruba consulted Mufti Zubair Butt, the Muslim chaplain at Leeds Teaching Hospital, to ask what her religion would make of screening during pregnancy – and termination if I-cell was confirmed.
He told her that it would be an acceptable course of action, but advised her to think very carefully.
“If you have this condition where the child is going to die in any case, or even if it doesn’t die soon, it will have debilitating illness, that’s sufficient reason to terminate before the soul enters the body, based on the sayings of the prophet,” he said.
But he also said that she shouldn’t do this just because she had a green light to do so, as it was something she would have to live with for the rest of her life.
And he advised her to consider the views of those in her community, many of whom were likely to oppose termination. “To overcome that, on a personal level, that’s a great challenge as well,” he said.
Ruba decided she would not want to terminate a pregnancy.
So when she got pregnant with her third child, Inara, in 2015, she refused the medical scans she was offered and turned down repeated requests from doctors to be screened.
“I wanted them to treat it like a normal pregnancy. I didn’t want them to put the doubt in my head. I wasn’t going to have an abortion, so I wanted to enjoy the pregnancy,” she says.
“I used to say my husband there could be a chance this baby is ill as well, but he said, ‘It’s fine.’ I think I had a lot of doubt – I knew the odds were the same as for the other two.”
But Inara too was born with I-cell disorder.
“I was really happy that I had a baby, but when we saw her we kind of knew,” says Ruba. “I was sad and upset that we went through all the pregnancy and we really wanted a healthy baby. I didn’t know how much pain she would go through – but my husband was happy. He said, ‘Just be grateful.'”
Inara died almost exactly a year ago, at the age of two. She fell ill with a chest infection last December and her condition deteriorated quickly. She was taken from the Bradford Royal Infirmary to York.
“The doctors in York were trying to do 100% to keep her alive, I did have that hope but I could see she was in pain. She was sedated until she passed away. I had her in my arms for most of the time, then I lay down beside her. My husband realised she was taking her last breaths.”
Ruba says she has no idea how they have all endured the pain of losing three children and of suffering six miscarriages, the last just weeks after Inara’s death. “I didn’t even know I was pregnant at that time and I miscarried after the funeral,” she says.
She says it was Inara’s death that made her accept a link between her children’s misfortunes and cousin marriage.
For a long time she just did not believe it, in part because she saw other ill and disabled children at the hospice and it was clear that not all of them were conceived by married cousins. Some were from the white community.
“My husband still doesn’t believe it,” she says. “I believe it now because it’s happened three times, so there must be something in what they’re saying. It must be true.”
Cousin marriage
In 2013 researchers published findings on cousin marriage in the Lancet: 63% of Pakistani mothers in Born in Bradford were found to be married to cousins and experienced a doubling of the risk of a baby being born with a congenital anomaly
The risk of having a baby with birth defects, usually heart or nervous system problems, is still small but rises from 3% in the general Pakistani population to 6% among those married to blood relative
Families in Bradford are still arranging marriages and choosing brides and grooms among their extended family back home – one in four children in the study had a parent brought over for marriage
After Inara’s death, some of Ruba and Saqib’s relatives, both in the UK and in Pakistan, came to the conclusion that they were unlikely to have a healthy child – and argued that the marriage should therefore end in a “happy separation”. This would allow both partners to remarry and have healthy children with someone else.
“We both said no,” Ruba says.
“My husband says: ‘If God is going to give me kids, then he can give me them from you. He’s given me kids from you and he can give me healthy kids from you. If it’s written, it’s written for you. I’m not going to get married again and neither can you get married again, we are both going to try together.'”
And although Ruba was reluctant to marry in 2007, after 10 years of married life she doesn’t want to part.
“Relatives wanted us to be happily separated for the kids, so that I can have healthy kids with someone else and so could he. But what if I do have healthy kids with someone, they might not make me feel like he makes me feel? I might have kids but not a happy marriage. It might not be successful marriage, and I don’t want to bring kids up as a single parent. I have heard about people doing this but it’s not for us.”
But what options does this leave them?
One possibility is to have IVF. This would enable doctors to screen embryos, rejecting those with I-cell disease, and selecting a healthy embryo to implant in Ruba’s womb.
Saqib is not enthusiastic about this, Ruba says.
“He just says that whatever Allah is going to give us is meant to be – if we’re destined to have a child like this then we can have it in any circumstances,” she says.
For her part, Ruba would like to try IVF – but the length of the waiting list is a drawback.
“I want it to happen quickly. If you wait for something for a long time then it’s more tempting to try naturally,” she says.
Her husband has been to appointments with her but it’s hard for him to take time off from the bakery where he works and he doesn’t speak much English.
“He sits there not knowing what they’re saying,” she says. “He isn’t keen, but says it’s up to me.”
Ruba says she cannot predict what will happen, but is concerned about what any naturally conceived child may have to endure.
“I thought the first time, when Hassam was diagnosed, that I couldn’t do this, but I’ve done it three times so I’m not sure,” she says. “But it isn’t fair for the child to go through so much pain.”

The couple’s experiences have led others in the family, including Ruba’s brother, to reject cousin marriage.
“We never use to think about the risks – up to my children we’ve never thought it was wrong to marry in the family, but because I’ve been through it my other relatives do think twice about going in the family,” Ruba says.
“Ten years ago I just accepted what my parents said, but now our cousins have been given a choice and they’re saying no to that. Our younger generation have been given a choice and if they don’t like it they can speak up about it.”
As well as losing three children, Ruba has also suffered six miscarriages, the last just weeks after Inara’s death. She hadn’t realised she was pregnant at the time, but miscarried after the funeral, when Inara was buried alongside her brother and sister.
She is sustained by her religion and supported by her parents.
“God only burdens a person with how much they can take. Sometimes I think people are so lucky, they don’t have to try hard and they get a healthy child, but sometimes those children bring trouble when grow up and so those tests placed on them are different,” Ruba says.
“In this life I’m the unluckiest person, but in the next life I will be the luckiest because they were innocent children. And those children help you in the next life, because you will be with them.”…”

The interview with Abdelkrim Chekatt by the state-run France 2 television channel was shown Saturday night, two days after the son was killed in a confrontation with three police officers in his childhood neighborhood in Strasbourg following a massive manhunt. Four people died in the Tuesday night attack. A dozen others were wounded.
The Christmas market in the eastern city of Strasbourg, seat of the European Parliament, is the largest in France. It reopened on Friday after being closed during the search for the suspect.
Chekatt said he had seen his son, Cherif Chekatt, three days before the attack but couldn’t contact him while he was on the run.
He acknowledged that his son backed the IS group.
“He’d say, for example, that Daesh, fights for the just cause and all that,” the red-bearded father said, using the common term in France and elsewhere for the Islamic State group.
The interview, initially outdoors with the father, continued briefly inside with Cheriff Chekatt’s mother, Rouadja Rouag, who expressed shock and sorrow for the deaths. France 2 said the couple had been divorced for a long time.
Abdelkrim Chekatt, a French-Algerian, said he’d tried in the past to dissuade his son from backing the Islamic State, saying, “You don’t see the atrocities they commit.” The son would reply that “it’s not them,” the father said.
Shortly after Chekatt’s death, the Islamic State group’s Amaq news agency claimed he was a “soldier” of the group. French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner rejected the claim as “totally opportunistic.”
The father and mother and two siblings of the suspected killer were among seven people held for questioning. French media reported that the family members were released. The three others, still in custody, are unrelated but close to Chekatt.
The young Chekatt had been on a French intelligence watch list for radicalism and was convicted 27 times for criminal offenses — the first time at age 13 — mainly in France but also in Germany and Switzerland. Investigators are trying to determine whether he had accomplices or logistical support.
The father said he went to police of his own accord and on a suspicion the night of the son’s rampage with a handgun and a knife.
He said he told police that “if ever you locate Cherif, tell me. I’ll go to him and try to reason with him to give up.”
He also said that if his son had told him about a project to kill “I would have denounced him, and he wouldn’t have killed or been killed.””
“He [Abdelkrim Chekatt] acknowledged that his son backed the IS group.”
If pater Chekatt did not immediately report his son’s ILLEGAL activities to the proper authorities, that could prove actionable and very easily make him a potential accessory-before-the-fact or co-conspirator in the Strasbourg attack. Preferably BOTH.

The battle for Paris: Violence erupts in French capital as police clash with rioters leading to 168 arrests – as Yellow Vest demonstrations rage into FIFTH week
Fighting erupted in central Paris today as thousands of anti-government protesters took to the streets of France for the fifth Saturday in a row.
Tear gas and baton charges were used by riot police around the capital’s famous Opera district on a so-called ‘Act V’ Day of Rage, and by midday more than 60 protesters were in custody.
But by the evening there were close to 170 arrests in central Paris as mounted police, water cannons, and 14 armoured vehicles capable of spreading high-intensity gas meanwhile gathered in around the city’s landmarks.
There had been 168 arrests by 6pm, far down on the roughly 1,000 protesters taken into custody following last Saturday’s demonstrations in Paris.

Around 69,000 security forces were mobilised across France, down from 89,000 last Saturday when 2,000 people were detained at various demonstration around the country.

Emmanuel Macron’s popularity continued to slide in December despite concessions announced by the French president in response to weeks of protests by the so-called Yellow Vest movement.
Macron’s approval rating dropped two points from a month earlier, to 23 percent, according to a poll by Ifop for the Journal du Dimanche weekly. Macron’s popularity has fallen by 27 points during the course of 2018, the newspaper reported.

However the fight against terror continues to be interpreted differently in Washington and Ankara. Washington sees ISIS and Iran as the major threat. Ankara sees the PKK and groups linked to it as the major threat.
Even the translation of the readout in Turkey and the US appeared different, with Ankara saying the US and Turkey had agreed more “efficient” cooperation, and other sources readouts saying they had agreed more “effective” cooperation.
The words are different. It doesn’t appear Washington and Ankara can even agree on which type of cooperation will take place.
The problems facing the Trump administration in Syria will continue until the US articulates the same policy to Ankara as it does to its SDF allies in Syria. There have been constant rumors that US officials indicated to Ankara over the last three years that the US involvement with the SDF was temporary and “tactical,” rather than long term.
However US envoy Jeffrey has said the US must address the “root causes” of ISIS rise in Syria in testimony to the US House of Representatives Foreign Affairs subcommittee in November.
…Turkey says it is serious about an operation in Manbij and Tel Abyad in northern Syria. It has also raised hopes among mostly Arab Syrian rebels that it will launch this offensive.
To show it is serious, Turkey launched air strikes in Iraq against PKK targets on Thursday. Iraq condemned the attacks, but Turkey said they would continue. While Turkey refrains from similar operations in eastern Syria the Iraq air strikes are symbolic of Ankara’s message to Washington.…

BUDAPEST (Reuters) – Around 10,000 Hungarians protested in Budapest on Sunday against a new labor law and what they see as the increasingly authoritarian rule of right-wing nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
Sunday’s protest, called “Merry Xmas Mr. Prime Minister” by organizers, was the fourth, and biggest demonstration in a week by leftist opposition parties, student groups and civilians against Orban’s government. Trade unions also joined the rally.
Protesters waved Hungarian and European Union flags as they walked from the historic Heroes’ Square towards parliament in crispy winter cold, holding up banners with slogans including “Don’t steal” and “Independent courts!”. The crowd swelled to around 10,000 by the time they reached parliament.
“Discontent is growing,” said Andi, 26, a sociology student who did not want to give her full name. “They have passed two laws this week which … won’t serve Hungarian people’s interest.”
The new labor law allows employers to ask for up to 400 hours of overtime work per year, leading critics to label it the “slave law”.
The government also passed a law to set up new administrative courts that will answer to the government and oversee sensitive issues such as electoral law, protests and corruption issues.
“This government ignores us, workers,” Tamas Szekely, deputy head of the Hungarian Trade Unions’ Association said in a speech. “We must raise our voice and give an answer.”
Orban has often clashed with Brussels as he has built a system that his critics see as autocratic, boosting his control over the courts and the media.
Civil rights watchdogs said the new courts law was the latest erosion of democratic institutions under Orban, who rose to power in 2010.
He has since tweaked the election system to favor his ruling Fidesz party and has put loyalists at the head of public institutions, while his allies have enriched themselves.
He has rarely angered large voter groups at home. Earlier this week police used tear gas on protesters at parliament.
Orban was reelected in April on the back of a fiercely anti-immigration campaign, facing a weak and fragmented opposition.

That almost all Arabs would rather live in Israel than in a Palestinian state is well-known. But the fact that most Palestinians actually prefer Israeli occupation to Palestinian self-rule is a show-stopper. That sentiment turns the dominant Western attitude toward a solution for the Palestinians on its head. It means that those who claim to be speaking for all Palestinians when defending their actions by expressing their frustration in living under Israeli rule are actually contradicting popular Palestinian will. The assumption in Western governments and international organizations that a Palestinian state is the only desirable end is likewise deflated. While a Palestinian state that functioned and protected civil rights in the manner that Israel does would be preferable to Israeli control to the majority of Palestinians, any foreseeable Palestinian entity is becoming increasingly unappealing compared to the situation under Israeli military presence.

A Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) whistleblower said she is living in her own real-life Twilight Zone.
Jamie Fox is currently a social worker at the San Francisco VA Medical Center (SFVAMC). Since late October, she’s been visited by federal agents who told her that the memes she had shared on Twitter months ago suddenly made her dangerous.
Fox was involuntarily committed to a psych ward hours after these agents visited her home. Even though she has since been released, her Second Amendment rights have been terminated, and now she is on leave from work and being investigated.

Turkey, Russia, Iran seek to propose constitutional committee for Syria to UN in late December, as the US remained sidelined
…Turkey appears to think it can sideline the US, whose policies with the SDF it objects to, while working with Russia and Iran. Turkey, for instance, has warmed relations with Russia, especially in the economic sphere. It also got exceptions for US sanctions on Iran.
Turkey says it wants to help the 3 million Syrian refugees return, and it has been speaking with some of them about helping its operation in eastern Syria. It says it wants to make the area “livable” and return it to its “owners,” a reference to the Syrians in Turkey.
But it is not clear if the constitutional committee is just a symbol of how much the US has been sidelined or if the US didn’t want to play a role. Jeffrey and the US have repeatedly said that the Geneva process is what should be looked to for the future of Syria.

“n Iranian asylum seeker who raped a teenage girl has been spared deportation even though a judge believed his conversion to Christianity was a deliberate ploy to cheat the justice system.
The 38-year-old man, who arrived in the UK in 2006, was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment after raping the 17-year-old in 2012.
But after his release from prison, a judge ruled that his claim to be Christian meant his deportation to Iran would be a breach of his human rights.
The judge, who acknowledged that the man’s religious conversion was part of a ploy to avoid deportation, ruled that his 850 twitter posts quoting the Bible and Christian theology placed him at risk of persecution if he was sent back to Iran.
The judge said: ‘In all the circumstances, I am satisfied that the appellant has established that there is a real risk that on his return he would be questioned about the details of his asylum claim and that that questioning would reveal that he has posted on Twitter……(and) interrogation would involve a real risk of ill-treatment amounting to a breach of article 3.’
The immigration tribunal judge said it didn’t matter that his conversion to Christianity was not genuine because the Iranian authorities would still be able to read his pro-Christian tweets.
The man, who can only be referred to as AM, entered the United Kingdom on 15 January 2006 and lodged an asylum application the same day.
This was rejected on 3 February 2006 and his rights of appeal against that refusal were exhausted on 2 June 2006.
But on 1 April 2008, he applied for a Residence Card on the basis that his wife was a member state of the European Economic Area. This was granted in December 2009 for five years, expiring 2014.
On 5 August 2013 he was found guilty of the rape of a 17-year old girl on 28 September 2012, and sentenced to five years imprisonment, with an order of indefinite registration on the sex offenders register.
He was released from prison on 18 August 2015 when the then Home Secretary, Theresa May, ordered his deportation on grounds that he represented ‘a genuine, present and sufficiently serious threat to the public.’
But he appealed that decision claiming to be a Christian who would be persecuted if he was returned to Iran.
The Home Office argued that none of the tweets were anti-Islamic but the judge disagreed with the Secretary of State’s characterisation of them as ‘simply quotations from the Bible.’ There were quotations from the New Testament and religious images, and retweets which he said were likely to find disfavour with the Iranian authorities. One of the tweets read, ‘people in the Middle East are still finding Jesus despite it all.’
At one point AM’s Twitter account had more than 5,000 followers and 86,000 likes. The Home Office has spent tens of thousands of pounds fighting the case and lodged an appeal with the Court of Appeal, arguing that AM’s conviction meant he should be deported on grounds of public policy.
This month the Court of Appeal ruled that the whole case should be reheard.
Lord Justice Simon said: ‘In these circumstances, I would allow the appeal; and remit the case to the Upper Tribunal for AM’s appeal to be considered in the light of this judgment. I would also add that directions should be sought as to the admission of any evidence and further specific submissions on the Twitter issue.’
A Home Office spokesperson said it would be inappropriate to comment on ongoing legal proceedings.”

“Bavarian authorities say the 38-year-old German man arrested in connection with stabbing three women in Nuremberg last week has a long criminal record, including a sexual assault conviction.
The three separate stabbings took place late Thursday and all the women are still in the hospital being treated for their injuries.
Authorities said Sunday that the man, whose name wasn’t released, was arrested Saturday morning after police stopped him because he fit the description of the suspect. He was found in possession a knife and investigators linked him to the attacks through DNA analysis.
Prosecutor Antje Gabriels-Gorsolke says the suspect has 18 convictions, primarily for theft but also for drugs, fraud and one for sexual assault in 2002. He has no address but most of the crimes were committed in eastern Germany.”

Far from being a “sacred representation,” this year’s Nativity scenes will be a “living dramatization” of migrants like Jesus in search of a home, said Giuseppe Piemontese, the recently named bishop of Terni, in his letter, thanks to the recent legislation aimed at curbing illegal immigration.
The bishop said that his recent pastoral visits gave him “the opportunity and the joy of meeting the Christian communities in their various components: families, associations and various parish groups.”
“In the various meetings there were poor people afflicted by various degrees of insecurity and immigrants of every condition: regular and irregular, without residence permits, asylum seekers, or those who have arrived from humanitarian corridors,” he said.
“I met a humanity of global origin,” the bishop continued. “They have all heard the good news that Jesus, two thousand years ago, came to take our miseries upon himself and give us hope. In Christmas, this announcement is renewed, according to tradition, and resonates more than ever even in our current day.”
At the center of Christmas is “the icon of the Holy Family in search of refuge, in the city of Bethlehem and finally as exiles and refugees in Egypt,” the bishop said.
“If we want to live a truly Christian Christmas, each one of us must open himself to sentiments and works of compassion and humanity,” he said.
Matteo Salvini, himself a Catholic, while extremely popular with the rank and file, has been the ongoing target of the Catholic establishment in Italy, which has labelled him everything from the antichrist to Satan.
For his part, Mr. Salvini has insisted that uncontrolled immigration “leads to chaos, racism, and social conflict,” whereas the “only antidote to racism” is orderly migration.
Orderly immigration “guarantees the rights of both Italians and immigrants,” Salvini said in an interview earlier this year, unlike the unchecked immigration of the past few years, which has resulted in “chaos.”
“The only antidote to racism — and the Italians are anything but racist — is to return to a respect for laws and regulations, and monitor who enters and who leaves this country,” he said.”

The mosque, also known as The Great Mosque of al-Nuri, and its iconic leaning minaret were built in the 12th century. It was from the mosque’s pulpit that IS’s self-styled caliph, Abu Bakar al-Baghdadi, declared the caliphate’s establishment in 2014.
Iraqi forces defeated the extremist group in the last of its urban strongholds last year, recapturing Mosul in a fierce battle that saw the al-Nuri mosque destroyed.

“Kuwait announced that it was allowing foreign investors to own a bigger stake of its local banks.
A press statement issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Saturday said investors will be required to gain approval from the Central Bank of Kuwait if the shares they want to buy represent more than 5 percent of a bank’s total capital.
The approval of the Central Bank of Kuwait should be obtained if ownership exceeds 5 percent of the bank’s capital, the ministry said.
The latest move comes in accordance with Decree 694, which notes that non-Kuwaiti investors shall be allowed to own and trade in Kuwaiti banks’ shares, KUNA reported.
The ministry said that the Capital Markets Authority received several enquiries from many international investors regarding loosening up rules for investing in the Kuwaiti market.
Investors spoke about the “existence of obstacles or restrictions” imposed on them, possibly referring to the maximum percentage of non-Kuwaiti investors’ ownership in a single bank, which is supposed to not exceed 49 percent of the bank’s total capital, the report added.
The decision aims to cultivate a positive investment environment for non-Kuwaitis on the Kuwait Stock Exchange and in line with the state’s vision on creating an attractive environment for foreign investments.
More so, the move aims to help attract foreign investors to the country’s large and influential banking sector set with a capital market value of KD11.11 billion (about $39 billion).
Previously, acquisition was limited to 49 percent of the bank’s capital without obtaining the prior approval of the Council of Ministers which consults with the Central Bank of Kuwait.”

“Through its humanitarian arm, Saudi Arabia financed as many as 492 projects in 42 countries to the tune of more than $1.9 billion in the past three years, King Salman Relief and Humanitarian Aid Center (KSrelief) said in a statistical report carried by the local media on Wednesday.
The center, which was established in May 2015, said, made the funding with the participation of 125 partners.
The center said it financed 301 projects in Yemen worth $1.67 billion in collaboration with about 80 partners.
It said its projects in Yemen covered a wide area including food security, health, water, accommodation, environment, education, communications and others.
The center said, with the contribution of five partners, it has financed 12 projects worth $16.8 million for the Rohinga Muslims in Myanmar and Bangladesh, where a number of them took refuge.
It also said it financed 49 humanitarian projects in Syria at a cost of $83 million in collaboration with 15 partners.
In Somalia, the center financed nine projects at a cost of $21.9 million which consisted of food, water, environment and others.”

“Two young migrants on Saturday were rescued off the coast of Spain after crossing the Straits of Gibraltar on a truck tyre, the Spanish coastguard said.
The pair was saved following “a call from Morocco to the Spanish sea rescue centre warning that two minors were floating on a lorry tyre in the Bay of Algeciras”, a coastguard spokesman was cited by AFP as saying.
“We mobilised a rescue vessel and warned all the boats in the area. A ferry called us to say that they had spotted them,” he added.
Spain’s maritime rescue service said it appeared the two had set out from Morocco, AP reported. The Strait of Gibraltar is 14km (eight miles) wide at its narrowest point.

“Iraqi President Barham Salih has renounced his British citizenship in adherence to the country’s Constitution, according to the Iraqi presidency on Sunday.
The Iraqi Constitution bans dual nationality for officials.
“All legal measures to give up the British citizenship have been completed,” presidential spokesman Luqman al-Feili said in a statement.
Salih was elected president of Iraq on October 2.

“Qatar announced on Sunday plans to invest more than $20 billion in the US energy sector over the next five years.
Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad al-Kaabi told a conference in Doha that Doha is looking to invest in US oil and gas sectors as well as unconventional resources.
“North of $20 billion will be invested over the next five years in the United States in different projects,” Kaabi told the Doha Forum.
A prime target of Qatar was to revive the multi-billion dollar Golden Pass LNG (liquified natural gas) terminal in Texas.
“We are contemplating moving (the project)forward with our partners,” said Kaabi, saying a final decision would be made shortly.
Qatar Petroleum owns 70 percent of the project, with ExxonMobil and ConocoPhillips splitting the rest.
Qatar’s LNG production would rise by 16 million tonnes annually, with an aim of reaching 110 million tonnes a year in five years.
Doha also announced earlier this month that it was withdrawing from the Saudi-dominated OPEC oil cartel, a decision Kaabi said was not “political”.
Qatar has been under a year-and-a-half blockade by neighbouring Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the UAE, with Doha seeking to diversify its trade and investments to limit the impact.
Qatar Petroleum on Sunday signed a deal with Italy’s Eni to acquire 35 percent in three offshore oil blocks in Mexico in the second major Qatari investment in the North American country this year.
The deal is to develop production at the three fields to around 90,000 barrels per day of oil in 2021.”
