  1. BREXIT BOOM: Ultra-rich Qatar POURS money into UK – ‘We will not limit ourselves’ (express, Aug 1, 2018)
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/997419/brexit-news-qatar-doha-investment

“POST-BREXIT Britain will be a thriving market according to oil-rich Qatar, who have poured almost £3 billion into the UK property market in just 16 months – with more to come.

Doha’s investors are far from afraid of Brexit-related scaremongering and said they had already investing more than they had planned due to UK opportunities.

The Gulf state has injected some £1.1 billion into British infrastructure projects and £1.7 billion into real estate ones, according to Qatari officials.

These investments are part of a larger venture pledge made last March by Qatar, the world’s richest nation per capita, with a GDP of £127.67 ($167.61) billion.

In a vote of confidence to the UK, Doha pledged to invest a total of £5 billion over 36 months.

Ali Sharif al-Emadi, Qatar’s finance minister, said: “We committed we would do £5 billion in three years and we are already ahead of this.

“We expect during the next few months we are going to do more investments.”…”

Booba and Kaaris were detained along with members of their entourages following scuffles at a departure lounge at Orly airport on Wednesday.

  5. Four Eritreans, who claim to be between 17 and 20 years old, have been charged with gang raping a woman in Bromma, Swedish news outlet Fria Tider reports.

The rape took place on 5-6 May 2018. According to the charges, the four Africans violently forced the disabled woman to have anal and vaginal intercourse.

The men held the woman by her arms and legs, during the violence, causing large bruises on her body. The very painful rape also caused “a crack in the woman’s abdomen area,” the prosecutor writes.

He adds that the woman found herself in a particularly vulnerable situation “partly because of her developmental disorder, partly because she was alone with four offenders in an unfamiliar environment”.

  8. Hillary Clinton to bring female voting rights story to television

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Hillary Clinton is adding a new skill to her resume: television producer.

The losing 2016 U.S. presidential candidate said on Wednesday she was working with director Steven Spielberg to bring a book about women’s fight for voting rights to television.

“I’m thrilled to be joining forces with Steven Spielberg to bring @efweiss5’s book ‘The Woman’s Hour’ to TV,” Clinton said on her Twitter account, referring to author Elaine Weiss.

“It’s about the women who fought for suffrage nearly 100 years ago. We stand on their shoulders, and I’m delighted to have a hand in helping to tell their stories,” she added.

Spielberg’s Amblin Television said in a statement that Clinton would be one of four executive producers on the show, which is being developed for a cable channel or a streaming platform.

No writer or network has yet signed on, but The Hollywood Reporter said Clinton is expected to have hands-on involvement in the development of the show, including casting.

The project will mark Clinton’s debut as a TV producer and follows a deal in May between Netflix and former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle to produce films, documentaries and other content for the streaming service.

“The Woman’s Hour,” set in 1920, tells the story of the long crusade by American women to get the right to vote. It was published in March.

Clinton called it “both a page-turning drama and an inspiration for everyone, young and old, male and female, in these perilous times.”

Since losing her bid to become the first female U.S. president, Clinton has written a memoir about her campaign, “What Happened,” and launched the political action group Onward Together.

She is also due to make a guest appearance as herself in an October episode of television’s “Madam Secretary,” about a fictional female U.S. Secretary of State that is widely thought to be inspired by Clinton’s own time at the U.S. State Department from 2009 to 2013.

  9. KELOWNA, B.C. — A judge who cried during a victim-impact statement is incapable of delivering a fair sentence, a defence lawyer says.

Judge Monica McParland is also accused of scoffing at the defence’s suggestion for an intermittent jail sentence and displaying an “overall tone of bias” against a person who pleaded guilty to the sexual interference of a minor.

“It is not appropriate for a judge to get so emotional during a victim-impact statement, period,” defence lawyer Jacqueline Halliburn said. “Judges don’t cry in every sexual-interference case.”

But Crown prosecutor Angela Ross said the judge’s actions fell well below the standard of misconduct required for an application of judicial recusal to be granted. “Even gross discourtesy does not amount to judicial error,” Ross said.

As well, Ross said, judges are expected to demonstrate “compassion and humanity” in the fulfilment of their duties.

McParland herself will decide if she should quit the case and refer sentencing to another judge.

After Crown and defence arguments were made, McParland indicated that decision will come before the end of August.

Jeremy Melvin Carlson was charged in 2016 with sexual assault and sexual interference of a person under age 16. Carlson, who is now in the process of transitioning to become a woman, subsequently pleaded guilty to sexual interference of a minor.

The Crown wants a jail sentence up to 20 months, followed by two years of probation. The defence suggested a 90-day intermittent jail term, to be served over 20 weekends.

  10. From the moment a protester grabbed a counter-protester’s megaphone and hurled it into the fountain of the Markham Civic Centre, Saturday’s demonstration against illegal border crossings and their effect on suburban Toronto degenerated quickly into violence and anger.

Police arrived to separate men who had thrown a few punches, and others who seemed about to, including one man who was pushing another as he held up a sign reading “Not In My Back Yard,” according to video captured by Ming Pao Daily News.

It was a small rally of a few dozen mainly Chinese-Canadian protesters in Markham, a city northeast of Toronto, and hundreds of kilometres from any land border with the United States. Nevertheless, as the demonstration was met by a smaller group of pro-refugee protesters, it became a flashpoint in the North American refugee crisis, with Markham’s mayor, Frank Scarpitti, as the unlikely main target.

  13. Germany: Muslim migrant plotted to detonate explosives in crowd of non-Muslims

    Danke, Merkel!

“Islamic State Supporting Migrant on Trial for Alleged Bomb Plot,” by Chris Tomlinson, Breitbart, July 28, 2018:

The trial of a 20-year-old Syrian asylum seeker, accused of plotting to detonate explosives in a crowd in Germany, started at a court in Hamburg this week.

The 20-year-old migrant was brought before the Hamburg Higher Regional Court Thursday to begin the process following his arrest in October of last year, Die Welt reports.

According to the federal prosecutor’s office, the 20-year-old had not only looked up instructions for how to make explosive devices online but had also begun the process of manufacturing the explosives for a potential device.

  14. Xan: this one is only tnagentially relevant in that we have seen a number of fake racist comments, faked by servers, left on a bill in a restaurant. Well, now we have a real one, and even though the comment ended up on a black customer’s receipt, it was actually aimed at a white employee…

BATON ROUGE- A woman in Baton Rouge got way more than she ordered Friday when the “n-word” appeared on her receipt from Bull Chicks off of Coursey Boulevard.

“‘N***a’ was on my receipt,” Tanya Varnadoe said. “I noticed it once I got home, and it was shocking to me.”

Varnadoe said she immediately got back into her car and drove back to the restaurant to see what was going on.

“We asked him why he would put this on a receipt and he said it was a joke,” Varnadoe said. “This is a black-owned company.”

Varnadoe said a worker told her that one of the people in the kitchen missed pickles on two orders before hers, so the person taking orders put “pickles n****a” on the instructions. Varnadoe said this being a black-owned business makes this situation even worse.

“It does not give them a free pass to put n***a on anyone’s receipt, or do it in the workplace,” Varnadoe said.

At Bull Chicks Monday, the owner was sincerely sorry.

“What happened was one of our employees, he’s a black young male was goofing around on the register on Friday night,” Owner Brent Ramsey said. “He typed in pickles n***a and sent it back to a white sandwich maker. Unfortunately, that ticket went out on the bag to a customer.”

  18. South Africa will push ahead with plans to amend the constitution to allow land expropriation without compensation, its president says.

In a recorded address, President Cyril Ramaphosa said the ruling ANC will “finalise a proposed amendment” allowing the move.

He said the reform was “of critical importance” to the economy.

Recent months have seen growing anger about the slow pace of land reform in South Africa.

The country’s white minority is believed to have a disproportionate hold over land, with a few thousand white commercial farmers possessing the most fertile lands.

However, critics fear expropriation could lead to land grabs, as happened in neighbouring Zimbabwe.

  21. Legal defense fund launched for Chilliwack school trustee Barry Neufeld
Barry Neufeld has become one of the only voices on the Board of Education willing to openly criticize BC’s controversial SOGI 123 curriculum.

In Chilliwack, British Columbia – about a one-hour drive out of Vancouver – school board trustee Barry Neufeld has become one of the only voices on the Board of Education willing to openly criticize BC’s controversial SOGI 123 curriculum.

SOGI 123, which stands for “sexual orientation and gender identity”, is a set of educational resources to teach students from kindergarten to Grade 12 about gender identity, gender pronouns, gender stereotypes, social justice, and family diversity, among other topics.

Though teaching SOGI 123 is not mandatory, teachers are encouraged to make use of the lesson plans and worksheets. Neufeld claimed he specifically takes issue with “the teaching of the theory, as if it was fact, that gender is fluid, that there are more than two genders, and that gender is not based in biology.” In October 2017, Neufeld wrote a Facebook post saying that letting children choose their gender is “child abuse” – a remark for which he later apologized.

Many are now trying to intimidate Neufeld out of his position. BC Education Minister Rob Fleming has called on Neufeld to resign; BC Teachers’ Federation President Glen Hansman said that Neufeld must either “step down or be pushed out, one way or the other”, and the Chilliwack School District board voted in January 2018 to urge Neufeld to resign after the Chilliwack Teachers’ Association called on Neufeld to be officially denounced for expressing opinions in violation of the BC Human Rights Code.

  22. A Rock Band Flirts with German Taboos, and Finds a Huge Following

    https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/01/arts/music/freiwild-germany.html

“Frei.Wild (pronounced FRY-vilt) has become one of the most contentious and successful bands in Germany, where its lyrics about loving one’s homeland have resonated with people who want to challenge the postwar taboo against public expressions of national pride. The band sings in German, and its music is a punk-inflected variant of “deutschrock,” a form of German rock music. But a South Tyrolean identity allows the group to voice nationalist sentiments in German, for a largely German audience, while partly avoiding the backlash that a German band would encounter for making similar statements.”

    ————————————–

“With songs like “Südtirol” and “Land der Vollidioten” (“Land of Complete Idiots”), which rails against the removal of crosses from schools out of respect for non-Christian children, critics in Germany have argued the band helps to foster anti-immigrant sentiment and right-wing nationalism. The musicians argue they are merely singing about their personal experiences, and that their reputation as a far-right band is a media distortion.
In one song, “Wahre Werte,” or “True Values,” Mr. Burger sings that “language, traditions and religion are the values of the homeland/Without them we will go under.” In an interview, Mr. Burger said he had titled one recent song “Antiwillkommen” (“Anti-Welcome”) to be provocative. After Chancellor Angela Merkel’s decision to allow large numbers of refugees to come to Germany in 2015, the government encouraged a “willkommenskultur,” or “culture of welcoming.””

  31. Trump Vows Border Wall Showdown
But jelly-spined Republicans don’t have the president’s back.
    August 1, 2018
    Matthew Vadum

President Trump raised the specter of a federal government shutdown Sept. 30 if Congress refuses to hand over money to build the southern border wall that the American people have been demanding for decades.

Trump seems aware that, contrary to perceived wisdom, furloughing feds for a few days is smart politics that almost invariably benefits the Republican Party. Recent history shows that when Republicans shutter the government in Washington, they win elections.

“If we don’t get border security after many, many years of talk within the United States, I would have no problem doing a shutdown,” Trump said at the White House Monday during a joint presser with Giuseppe Conte, Italy’s new prime minister who has already gained a reputation as an immigration hardliner.

Trump praised Conte’s stance on immigration and called U.S. immigration laws a “laughingstock” and the “worst” in the world.

“And I agree very much what you’re doing with respect to migration and illegal immigration, and even legal immigration,” Trump told the Italian premier. “Italy has taken a very firm stance on the border, a stance a few countries have taken. And, frankly, you’re doing the right thing, in my opinion. And a lot of other countries in Europe should be doing it also.”

The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) released footage on Wednesday, showing the detention of nine alleged recruiters of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL), who were reportedly distributing Islamic literature in Kaliningrad.

The agents seized firearms, ammunition, ready to use improvised explosive devices and Islamic religious literature.

  33. San Francisco Bans Everything
North Korea with a tech industry.

Here are a few things that are effectively legal in San Francisco: drugs, public defecation and shoplifting. And here are some of the things that are banned or will be banned in the City by the Bay.

Straws. Fur coats. Bottled water. Eating at work. Vaping liquids. Upholstered furniture. Plastic bags. Pet stores. Electric scooters. Coffee cups and packing peanuts. Tropical fish. The McDonald’s Happy Meal.

If you can think of something, San Francisco has already banned it. Or will be banning it soon.

North Korea with a tech industry and some leftover Victorian architecture (which it’s banning tour buses from visiting) has reacted to the collapse of living conditions and fleeing tourists by banning everything.

Everything except the behavior that’s making San Francisco unlivable.

During the Gold Rush, legend had it that the streets of San Francisco were paved with gold. These days they’re layered with human waste after the socialist city legalized public urination and defecation. A bag of 20 pounds of human waste was deposited on the street. Urine corroded a pole so badly that it fell on a car almost killing the driver. But don’t think that you can get away with anything in San Francisco.

  34. Not So Rotten in Denmark?
They’re not turning things around, but at least they’re trying to slow down the decline.
    August 1, 2018
    Bruce Bawer

On July 1, the New York Times ran a long article by Ellen Barry and Martin Selsoe Sorensen headlined “In Denmark, Harsh New Laws for Immigrant ‘Ghettos.’” How harsh? Henceforth, starting at the age of one, children living in designated “ghettos” – in other words, “low-income and heavily Muslim enclaves” – have to spend at least 25 hours a week receiving instruction in Danish values, “including the traditions of Christmas and Easter, and Danish language.” Parents who refuse to obey may lose their welfare payments.

Given the proven failure (over decades) of innumerable Muslim immigrants in Denmark to learn Danish, find jobs, and otherwise integrate into Danish society – not to mention the tendency of young people who’ve grown up in those “enclaves” to join gangs, commit violence, and express open hostility to native Danes and their culture – these laws sound eminently reasonable. In fact, anyone aware of the scale of the problem might well pronounce them tame and insufficient. But not the Times. Barry and Sorensen describe the new laws not as a responsible attempt to prevent the kind of social and economic collapse looming in next-door Sweden, and to preserve a free, safe, and solvent Denmark for future generations of ethnic Danes and the descendants of immigrants, but rather as a “tough” and “sinister” expression of the Danish government’s “ire.”

  35. The Left’s Religious Liberty Meltdown
New task force from the DOJ triggers rage — and hypocrisy.
    August 1, 2018
    Joseph Klein

Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced Monday that the Department of Justice is launching a “religious liberty task force.” A “dangerous movement, undetected by many, but real, is now challenging and eroding our great tradition of religious freedom …. It must be confronted … and defeated,” Attorney General Sessions said. He correctly observed that the free exercise of religion is enshrined in the first clause of the First Amendment, which also prohibits any law respecting an establishment of religion. In short, the government is prohibited by the First Amendment from establishing an official religion, favoring one religion over another, or interfering with the freedom of individuals to exercise their religious beliefs (or the freedom not to believe in any faith) in accordance with the dictates of their own consciences.

Attorney General Sessions praised the religious diversity of the American people. His concern was the hostility shown against people of all faiths. We see such hostility exemplified in laws and regulations placing undue burdens on the exercise of one’s religious beliefs and by a popular culture and political environment that increasingly encourages the demonization of people of faith. The purpose of the new task force is to implement Department of Justice guidance on respecting and accommodating religious beliefs, including those of the department’s own employees. Such guidance will be built around certain principles, the attorney general said, including that “free exercise means a right to act—or to abstain from action,” “government shouldn’t impugn people’s motives or beliefs,” and “[W]e don’t give up our rights when we go to work, start a business, talk about politics, or interact with the government.”

  36. ‘Ultimate Form of Civilization Jihad’ Planned for Michigan City
Iraqi-Christian refugees on edge after learning of mosque ‘conversion’ project.
    August 1, 2018
    Leo Hohmann

With wounds still fresh in the minds of residents of Sterling Heights, Michigan, where a proposal to build a mega-mosque in the middle of a residential area sparked multiple lawsuits, a group of Pakistanis is moving forward with plans for another controversial mosque project, this one involving the conversion of a church.

The group held an “open house” last weekend at the former St. Mark Lutheran Church on 16 ½ Mile Road in Sterling Heights. But a group of Christians who attended said it was unlike any open house they’d experienced.

A realtor was present, along with several Pakistani men dressed in traditional Islamic robes.

“They used the term ‘open house’ because they probably didn’t know what else to call it,” said a local woman who dropped in on the event. “But in retrospect I think they were looking for money. That was their plan, to show the property, explain what they were going to do with it and see if people would donate.”

The woman, who asked not to be identified, said she lives two miles from the Islamic Association of Greater Detroit in nearby Rochester Hills. Mosques in Oakland and Macomb counties tend to start out small and become very large, she said.

Sterling Heights is unique in that it is home to not only a growing Muslim community but one of the largest concentrations of Chaldean Catholic Christians in the U.S. These Christians fled persecution in Iraq. Word of the open house spread quickly among the Christians when a flyer showing the targeted church started circulating in the area last week.

  37. Mueller Prosecutes Manafort, Divests Clinton, Obama Ally Cases
    July 31, 2018
    Daniel Greenfield

It’s a clever move only if you think that Comey’s little dance was clever. Mueller is playing the same games that government insiders like him usually do. But there’s too much public scrutiny now and too many questions. Like why Mueller chose to throw the book at Manafort with a pre-dawn raid, humiliating his wife, solitary, while letting Obama, Clinton and Bernie allies take a walk.

So now he’s sending those cases over to the Southern District of New York.

The inclusion of Snopes, an amateurish unprofessional site in the middle of an endless scandal, in the ranks of the media’s fact checking mafia was always bound to backfire. And the backfire has been burning for a while.

Here’s the Daily Mail pieces on the almost unbelievable dysfunction inside the fake fact checking site.

  39. For several weeks Western Europe has been suffering through a record breaking heatwave. Normally this would mean more people visiting outdoor swimming pools. However, in Germany, after numerous incidents with migrants, more Germans simply won’t risk going to the pools, tabloid BILD reports.

Last Wednesday a large fight started in a Magdeburg swimming pool between groups of Croatians and Afghans. A 17-year-old Croatian girl is said to have been splashed several times with water by the Afghans.

As a result, she pushed the Afghan boy to the ground, after which a verbal battle ensued in which her brothers intervened. It resulted in a fight between the two groups, during which one of the attackers even lost a hatchet while wielding it. The police have initiated a preliminary investigation into grievous bodily harm.

Late on Wednesday, around 5PM, a dispute in the Erfurt Nordbad swimming pool escalated to where a 23-year-old German was attacked with an unknown weapon by a 20-year-old with Turkish citizenship. The man was stopped by a security guard who intervened.

(LifeSiteNews) – A federal judge has sided with the Trump administration in a lawsuit challenging its move to prioritize faith-based, abstinence-focused programs for dispensing family-planning dollars.

In May, three Planned Parenthood groups and the National Family Planning & Reproductive Health Association (NFPRHA) sued the administration over the Department of Health & Human Services’ (HHS) February guidelines overhauling how it evaluated applications for Title X family planning grants.

The new rules gave priority to abstinence, ease of primary care access, more family participation, and cooperation with faith-based groups.
