EL MONTE, Calif. (AP) — Los Angeles County authorities say a woman suffered life-threatening injuries when someone splashed her with an unknown type of caustic chemical.
Police in El Monte say officers responding around 1 a.m. Saturday found the victim on a driveway with severe burns to her face and body.
She’s hospitalized in critical condition.

Police Arrest Antifa Member with Cache of Bomb-Making Materials, Guns, Manifesto
Police in South Dakota arrested a self-proclaimed member of the violent leftist group Antifa who had a “concerning” cache of firearms, bomb-making materials, and an Antifa manifesto in his possession.
Police in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, originally arrested Mark Christopher Einerwold, 43, on July 17 on charges of burglary, but upon serving a warrant at his home, officers discovered “concerning” evidence that he may have been planning something bigger, KELO reported.

The Jewish community is expressing outrage after a sign featuring a Holocaust survivor was vandalized over the weekend.
The United Jewish Appeal Federation of Toronto (UJA) said in a tweet Sunday that a sign advertising holocaust education was spray painted with the word ‘Achtung’ outside of the Sarah and Chaim Neuberger Holocaust Education Centre in North York.

Sunday night, after France’s World Cup win at the Final, a young couple was savagely assaulted in Poitier’s Saint-Eloi district for responding “no, Vive la France !” to a man who just shouted “Vive l’Algérie !” (“Go Algeria”).
Poitiers was not an exception to the wave of violence following France’s win at the World Cup. Around midnight, a 19-year-old man and his girlfriend were walking in Poitiers’s Saint-Eloi district when they heard a driver of a car shout “Vive l’Algérie !”.
The couple answered with “No, Vive la France !” which upon hearing, the driver got out of his car and launched a jab at the young girl who quickly fell to the ground.
Other men came and joined in the beating. Fortunately, the couple is suffering only minor injuries but the young 19-year-old man was mandated a week’s rest by the doctors.
The police are still searching for the perpetrators. The incident came just a few hours after the assault of a young 22-year-old woman in front of Poitier’s train station. Three young men stopped and vandalised her car, before trying to steal her phone when she took photos of the damage.

The Times of Israel reports: Israel’s Mossad spy agency thwarted a terror attack in a Paris suburb last month, giving authorities in France, Germany, and Belgium crucial intelligence that led to arrests of a cell headed by an Iranian diplomat, Hebrew media reported Thursday.

A Fife community which wants to take in Syrian refugees has been told the village is unsuitable due to a lack of necessities including a mosque and halal meat.
Kingsbarns Community Council wanted affordable houses being built to be offered to those who had fled war in their home country if no local tenants needed them.
However, it was advised that a refugee settlement in the East Neuk village would be “impractical” and remote from other Fife towns where people have been resettled.
Campaigners have questioned the reasoning, pointing out that in 2015 Syrian refugees were housed in the Isle of Bute and the local council recently said they now regarded the island as home.
Community council member Kate Holy insisted that “though Kingsbarns is rural, it is not remote”.
She said: “We have easy access to St Andrews where the university’s Islamic Society holds Friday prayers or a bus can be taken every 10 minutes or so to Dundee where there is a choice of three mosques and halal butchers.

The Houston Chronicle reports that 40-year-old Shmou Alrawabdeh testified Wednesday as part of a plea bargain to reduce her charges in the slaying of Coty Beavers. Alrawabdeh told the jury her husband, Ali Mahwood-Awad Irsan, slipped into Beavers’ unlocked apartment near Houston and shot him after their daughter left for work.

A young Syrian man, living in the state of Saxony, distributed videos of tortures and murders, as well as Daesh propaganda materials to his followers on social media in an attempt to recruit them to the terrorist group.
An elite special forces unit of the German police has detained 22-year-old Syrian Esmail A. A., suspected of being a member of the Daesh* terror group, in Saxony’s town of Plauen on an arrest warrant requested by the Federal Prosecution Office. The man allegedly recruited new Daesh members or supporters of the terrorist organization in at least two episodes.
According to the prosecution, the suspected member of the foreign terrorist organization had been posting Daesh propaganda materials, including torture scenes and executions of prisoners, as well as his own beliefs, on publicly accessible chat groups of the messenger service WhatsApp since September 2017.
The Syrian described himself as a “media worker” and administrator of the groups, which he described as part of a “news agency.” Two publications contained concrete instructions on how to join Daesh.

Pupils at 103 schools in Afghanistan’s central province of Logar could not go to school on Saturday as education facilities were closed due to Taliban threats, an official said.
Officials shuttered more than 60 schools in the centre of the provincial capital Pol-e Alam due to threats from the insurgent group, said Abdul Wakil Kaliwal, head of Logar’s Education Department.
Around 40 others remained shut in the Taliban-controlled district of Mohamad Agha, he added.
The closures have deprived some 60,000 students of education in the province.

An Iranian migrant has been jailed after he dragged a child into a dead-end road in Glasgow and forced him to his knees before raping him.
According to local media, the High Court in Glasgow heard that on August 18 last year, Yones Beyranvand, 37, lured the 12-year-old boy to follow him before raping him.
During a police search of the defendant’s home in Rona Street, Glasgow, officers found indecent images of children on his computer as well as an extreme pornographic image depicting bestiality, which he was convicted of having in his possession.
Judge Johanna Johnston QC handed a nine-year jail term to Beyranvand, who will likely serve less than five years in prison as Britain typically paroles criminals automatically once half the sentence has been served.

Egyptian Muslim men routinely treat Christian women as “whores,” which makes life in Egyptian society a living hell, a female Coptic journalist wrote in a revealing op-ed this week.

On Wednesday, PJ Media discovered that the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) — a notorious left-wing smear organization — had silently removed Omar Mateen, the radical Islamic terrorist responsible for the deadliest Islamic terror attack since September 11, 2001, from its report documenting “Terror from the Right.” His name just disappeared.
Mateen, a 29-year-old security guard, declared allegiance to the Islamic State (ISIS) and entered Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, Fla., on June 12, 2016. He killed 49 people and wounded 53 others, dying in a shoot-out with police.
So why did this ISIS terrorist end up on the SPLC’s list of “radical-right terrorist plots, conspiracies and racist rampages”? The SPLC’s synopsis of Mateen’s terror attack suggests an answer:
Mateen called 911 during the attack to pledge allegiance to ISIS and mentioned the Boston Marathon bombers. He also demanded that U.S. bombing of Syria and Iraq stop. His father initially told NBC News that his son had expressed outrage when he saw two men kissing in Miami. Others described Mateen as a violent, deeply conflicted man who had beaten his former wife and often frequented gay bars. The FBI interviewed Mateen in 2013 and 2014 but reportedly found no evidence that he was tied to terrorism.
The SPLC said Mateen was “right-wing” because he “expressed outrage when he saw two men kissing in Miami.” As for the suggestion that Mateen was secretly homosexual himself, the FBI said they found no evidence to corroborate this.

A 28-year-old man from Dearborn was arrested in Syria earlier this month on suspicion of being a fighter for the Islamic State.
Ibraheem Musaibli was seized as he tried to escape the Middle Euphrates River Valley, an area where the American-backed Syrian Democratic Forces has been trying to squash remaining pockets of Islamic State control, the New York Times reported Thursday.
The newspaper reported that authorities are working to bring Musaibli and an Indiana woman whose husband was an Islamic State fighter back to the U.S. to be prosecuted. He is being held in an undisclosed facility.
A spokesman for the FBI in Detroit declined to comment.

The war-torn state, which has become a transit country for people fleeing to Europe from poverty in Africa, already has to deal with hundreds of thousands of illegal migrants on its territory, according to the Libyan prime minister. He has pleaded for international help and lambasted Europe for trying to pass this burden on to Libya.
Libya’s prime minister, Fayez al-Sarraj, has rejected Europe’s plans to place illegal migrants, “no longer wanted in the EU,” on his country’s territory. Commenting on the bloc’s proposition to open special “anchor centers” for refugees in third transit countries, he told the German tabloid Bild that Tripoli wouldn’t “agree on any deals with EU money about taking in more illegal migrants.”
“There won’t be any deals with us. I am very surprised that while nobody in Europe wants to take in migrants anymore they are asking us to take in further hundreds of thousands,” he stated.
The head of the Libyan interim Government of National Accord stressed, that his country was already burdened by the influx of illegal migrants, which impairs the country’s security with hundreds of thousands of illegal migrants, while its existing refugee shelters house tens of thousands.
“They include terrorists, criminals, and human traffickers who do not care about human rights. It’s horrible. In order to improve the situation, we must fight these structures. But we also need more international help for this. It begins with our country’s borders. It is imperative that they be better controlled,” he claimed.

A graduate of Berkeley High School in California, who reportedly told authorities he wanted to help ISIS kill 10,000 people in the San Francisco Bay Area, pleaded guilty to federal charges Wednesday, while his attorney claimed he was a victim of the “system.”
Amer Sinan Alhaggagi, 23, of Oakland, pleaded guilty in federal court to trying to provide material support or resources to a foreign terrorist organization, possession of device-making equipment and identity theft, the U.S. Attorney’s Office and FBI announced.
Authorities arrested Alhaggagi in November 2016 after he bought clothes online with a phony credit card, but he was held so federal authorities could continue to investigate him, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Halal meat is the new standard in Germany – slaughter facilities are facing Mecca: survey
Germany’s leading meat producers often work according to Islamic laws, a survey of the Evangelical News Agency Idea shows.
The largest German poultry producer Wiesenhof produces exclusively “halal”. This was admitted by the group from Visbek (Lower Saxony) on request.
“All Wiesenhof poultry butcheries are invariably free of pork and alcohol.” Some slaughterhouses are already “Halal certified for several decades”. Wiesenhof works with one of the largest certifiers, “Halal Certification Germany” (Osnabrück).
Wiesenhof confirmed that this is also the case in the company’s own slaughterhouses. In addition, all facilities are facing Mecca. Their products are recognised by certifiers as “halal” (Arabic for “allowed”) and are therefore suitable for Muslims who comply with the food rules of the Koran, for consumption.

Jewish man, 69, attacked in Paris by assailant shouting about Allah and Hitler

(JTA) — A 69-year-old Jewish man wearing a kippah was assaulted in Paris by a young Arab man who shouted about Allah and Hitler.
In Tuesday’s incident, the alleged assailant hit the Jewish man, pushed him to the ground and dragged him by his hair while shouting “Alla hu akbar, long live Hitler, death to the Jews,” the National Bureau for Vigilance Against Anti-Semitism, or BNVCA, wrote in a statement Wednesday. The call in Arabic means “Allah is the greatest.”
Police apprehended the suspected assailant, the report said. A police physician recommended transferring the suspect to a psychiatric institution for observation because he was in a “state of over-excitement,” according to the information received by BNVCA.
It was the third time this year that French police sent a man who displayed violent behavior toward Jews for psychiatric evaluation.

Unrepentant neighbours beat Turkish woman for hugging boyfriend
A woman has appeared on Turkish television with two black eyes and injuries on her legs after being beaten by neighbourhood residents for hugging her boyfriend in a public area, secularist newspaper Cumhuriyet reported on Thursday.
The woman appeared visibly shaken on camera as she related how she was set upon by residents of Kurfal? in Kartal, Istanbul who objected to a parting hug shared with her boyfriend as he left her at her home.
The woman said that after the trouble started she was beaten by a group of local men. Over 30 people witnessed the beating but said nothing as the men pulled her hair and dragged her along the ground, she said.
The woman reported the incident to the police and has launched legal action against her attackers.
One of these, however, appeared completely unrepentant and unconcerned about the legal repercussions as he agreed to speak to the television about the event.

A mob attacked a church in Minya, Egypt, on 13 July protesting against its legalisation and received a police officer’s approval, World Watch Monitor has learnt from local sources.

The only church in Ezbet Sultan Pasha village, where about 20 percent of the population is Christian, was built in September 2016. Apart from masses and prayer meetings, St. Karas the Anchorite Coptic Orthodox Church also held Sunday school classes and housed a nursery.
After a rumour spread in the majority-Muslim village that Copts had applied for the de-facto church’s legalisation, as is required by the August 2016 Law on the Organisation of the Construction of Churches, local Muslims started a demonstration in front of the church after Friday noon prayer on 6 July.
“The protesters were chanting slogans against us [Copts], such as ‘We don’t want a church in our village,’” Hany Farouk, a resident of the village told World Watch Monitor.
“We locked ourselves in our homes during the demonstration because we were afraid that they would attack us. Police didn’t do anything to disperse the demonstrators and didn’t arrest anyone of them.”
Demonstrations continued the following day with no intervention by the police, according to locals.
A week later, 13 July, a bigger mob comprised of residents of Ezbet Sultan Pasha and nearby villages, gathered in front of the church and started pelting it with stones and bricks, along with a house next to it, belonging to a Copt.
“They were shouting ‘Allahu akbar’ [Allah is the greatest] and chanting hostile slogans against Copts, such as: ‘We will not allow any church to exist in our Muslim village’, ‘We will not allow any other prayers to be held in our Muslim village except our prayers,’” Farouk said.
While police did not intervene, one of the officers apparently promised the protesters that no church would be allowed in the village. According to Farouk, this declaration encouraged the protesters who clapped shouting ‘Allahu akbar’. The mob dispersed afterwards.

Following the incident, Anba Macarious, General Bishop of Minya, issued a statement in which the Diocese of Minya “denounced” the attack and the declaration of the officer who reassured that the demands of the demonstrators would be met.

“The Diocese also condemns the declaration of one of the officials that the demand of the objectors will be met. We trust that the honourable officials of the state do not accept this; we have already communicated with them. They confirmed their total denunciation of what happened and promised to firmly deal with the instigators and take the necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of this abominable scenario, especially in light of the efforts of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to consolidate the values of justice, equality and peace throughout the country,” the statement said.
Ayman Samir, a deacon at St. Karas the Anchorite Church, told World Watch Monitor that the church had been closed since 6 July.
“We didn’t celebrate the feast of St. Karas the Anchorite [a saint of the Coptic Orthodox Church] on 15 July as we used to do, and to congratulate each other on that wonderful occasion. This year we were deprived of that celebration because of the current events.”
Meanwhile, the Housing Minister has issued a letter to the church representative on the committee for the legalisation of the churches, which stated that it is forbidden to close or stop the religious rites in any building, the application of which has been submitted to the committee.
There are at least approximately 3000 pending applications from churches that still need to be examined by the government commission set up to verify whether they meet legal requirements.
