  1. France: Cars set alight in Nantes as riots over police killing of man continue

Protesters continued setting fires and garbage bins on fire in Nantes on Friday night, amid riots over the police killing of a 22-year-old man earlier this week

    • France: Right-wing activists support police officer accused of manslaughter in Nantes

Dozens of right-wing activists staged a rally in front of the police headquarters in Nantes on Saturday to support a police officer suspected of shooting a 22-year-old man.

A group of antifascist demonstrators organised a counter rally across the street. Police officers were deployed at scene to keep the groups of protesters apart.

At the end of the protest, one of the counter protesters was reportedly detained.

According to the police, officers opened fire on a 22-year-old man, identified as Aboubakar Fofana, after he reversed his car into a police officer. A bullet hit the driver in his carotid artery which led to his death. However a widely reported witness statement contradicts the police account, saying the car was stationary at the time of the incident.

A police officer has been taken into custody for questioning in relation to Fofana’s death. Nantes Mayor Johanna Rolland has reportedly asked for a transparent investigation into the case.

        • More importantly, is it even possible for French citizens to purchase car insurance anymore?!?

If so, who in hell is financing all of the carbeques?!?

          Enquiring minds want to know!

    • Nantes on FIRE: Riots on the streets for FOURTH night as police clash with protestors (express, Jul 7, 2018)
      https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/985421/Nantes-riots-france-police-france-fires-Aboubakar-Fofana-death

“RIOTS in Nantes entered their fourth night as police clashed with angry protesters who hurled petrol bombs at officers and torched vehicles.

Angry youths torched dozens of cars as police responded with tear gas in clashes which broke out in the Le Breil neighbourhood of Nantes just after midnight and ended around dawn.

The protesters also set fire to a building, which was brought under control by firefighters, in another night of violence in Nante’s “ghetto district”.

It comes after the police officer who shot dead Aboubakar Fofana, 22, was charged with manslaughter on Friday.

Since news of the 22-year-old’s death spread on Tuesday evening, violent clashes between protesters and police have quickly ripped through the picturesque city in western France.

The officer has been released on bail and has been described as “devastated” and in a “state of shock” following the death.

Police reinforcements were deployed in Nantes on Thursday to safeguard the city, amid fears the riots will intensify.

Mr Fofana almost ran over two children and hit an officer as he reversed his car away from a police control point “at very high speed,” prompting another officer to open fire. He was hit in the neck and declared dead on arrival at hospital.

He was the subject of an arrest warrant issued in June last year for organised robbery, possession of stolen goods and criminal conspiracy.

The car he was driving had been flagged as a vehicle suspected of being used for drug dealing and had put under police surveillance, according to French media.

Mr Fofana claimed he had no ID and gave police a false name, arousing the suspicions of the officers.

This is not the first time French police are accused of using excessive force in poorer neighbourhoods, especially against people from ethnic minorities.

The 2016 death in police custody of a young black man Adama Traoré, which is still being investigated, sparked nationwide riots and led to accusations of police brutality and a state cover-up.”

      • Call out the Army, issue live ammo and tell them to stop the riot by any method they think necessary. One good massacre and the rioting will stop.

        • One good massacre and the rioting will stop.

Richard, you are horribly and TOTALLY right.

Only when Muslim blood starts flowing in European gutters—just as it does THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE MUSLIM FECKING MIDDLE EAST—will there be a scintilla of peace to be had in Western nations.

For whatever reason, it appears as though followers of Islam simply cannot help themselves when it comes to importing their own stupefying death cult. Just ask the IDF about routine 10:1 casualty rates when facing off with the “Palestinians”.

Until then, keep reloading while they endlessly honk.

      • Mr Fofana almost ran over two children and hit an officer as he reversed his car away from a police control point “at very high speed,” prompting another officer to open fire. He was hit in the neck and declared dead on arrival at hospital.

In future times, this account (more often) will be called a, “happy ending”.

The carbeque perps should be treated as required range time.

        • The cop who did the shooting should be given a bonus and if necessary transferred to another town, not put on trial.

      • He is the visible tip of the iceberg, there are a lot more then him that need to be removed from their positions.

        • He is the visible tip of the iceberg…

There are a pair of relatively conjoined theories that pertain.

          First: THE ICEBERG THEOREM

Which states that 90% of observable mass is not within sight.

          Second: THE GENERALIZED ICEBERG THEOREM

Namely, 90% of everything is sh!t.

          Take your pick.

            • Richard, you may well not believe that I ruminated over “The Generalized Iceberg Theorem” just yesterday (far before your post).

Having a solid mind like yours open the door for one of my favorite wisecracks was irreplaceable. Are you on hire as a part-time straight man?

Logan Robertson, Steven Albany and another man face charges of public nuisance, entering a premises with intent and trespass, after the incidents at the Kuraby and Darra mosques on Wednesday and Thursday.
On Wednesday, they were accused of entering the Kuraby mosque and harassing worshippers inside, including teenage boys.
The following day, there were heated scenes outside the Darra mosque, when members from the Pillar Baptist Church confronted Islamic leaders.
Police asked the church members to leave, before seizing video equipment and mobile phones from the group.
The entire incident on Thursday was captured by local television crews.
The Islamic Council of Queensland’s Ali Kadri was confronted by Mr Robertson, the church’s pastor.
Mr Kadri said: “I’m trying to talk to you in a nice manner, why are you responding in such an aggressive manner?”
Mr Robertson replied: “Because I hate the religion of Islam. I don’t hate Muslims, I hate the religion.”
“We’re making a documentary about your false religion. That’s what we are trying to do.”

An extremist pastor who harassed people at two Brisbane mosques looks set to be deported after being arrested overnight.
Immigration Minister Peter Dutton said the New Zealand national was taken into custody on Friday evening and has been placed in immigration detention.
“My message is clear – if people come to this country they need to abide by the conditions of their visas,” Mr Dutton told reporters on Saturday
“We have a wonderful tradition in our country of freedom of speech, but we’re not going to tolerate people going to a place of worship and harassing others.”
The minister said a full investigation by Queensland Police would be carried out before a final decision about Robertson’s deportation.
It comes as The Islamic Council of Queensland fears copycat incidents at mosques after the incidents.
Council spokesperson Ali Kadri says stronger laws around hate speech are needed to better protect worshippers of all faiths.
“This is not just about Muslims, it’s about hate, it’s about preaching hatred, it’s about dividing society, and if we don’t nip it in the bud it will affect society as a whole,” he said.
Mr Kadri said he would write to Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk about the issue.

    https://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/07/07/moroccan-migrant-threatens-blow-himself-up-milan-church/

“Italian Carabinieri arrested a 43-year-old Moroccan living in Italy earlier this week after he entered a shop and threatened to blow himself up in a nearby church.

The man is said to have walked into a pet shop and attempted to reach out to shake the hand of the shopkeeper but when the worker refused, he became agitated and began cursing in Italian and Arabic. During the diatribe, the man threatened to blow himself up in the nearby church of San Carlo.

The shopkeeper called the police who arrived on the scene and chased the fleeing suspect. When the officers caught up to him, he attacked them, damaging their police vehicle.

According to the Carabinieri, the Moroccan was well-known to them and had a history of extortion cases from 2001 to 2003 and had known problems with alcohol and cocaine use. Despite the threats, no explosive materials were found in the man’s backpack and currently he is not thought to be linked to any terror groups…”

“A Libyan river authority says an unidentified armed group has kidnapped three Filipino nationals and one South Korean working on a project south of the capital, Tripoli.

The authority managing the Great Man-Made River project said in a statement Friday the four foreigners, who work as engineers and technicians at a water project, were abducted and taken to an unknown destination. It said three Libyan workers were also abducted but were later released.

On Saturday, the authority said armed groups attacked another project area in southeastern Libya killing two Libyan workers there and kidnapping two others.

Abduction has emerged as a lucrative trade amid the breakdown of authority in Libya after it plunged into chaos following the 2011 uprising that toppled and later killed a longtime ruler.”

“Yemeni officials say fighting between a Saudi-led coalition and the Shiite rebels along the country’s west coast has killed more than 165 people from both sides.

The officials said Saturday the fighting has been concentrated over the past two days in the al-Tuhyta district, south of the key port city of Hodeida. It comes amid efforts by the U.N. special envoy to bring the coalition and the Iran-aligned rebels, known as Houthis, to restart peace talks.

On Sunday, the coalition said it had paused its campaign to retake Hodeida in support of United Nations efforts as it called for rebels’ “unconditional withdrawal” from the city.

  8. Millionaires Flee California After Tax Hike

According to new research released by Charles Varner, associate director of the Stanford Center on Poverty and Inequality, California lost an estimated 138 high-income individuals following passage of the Proposition 30 income tax increase championed by Gov. Jerry Brown (D) and approved by Golden State voters in 2012.

This new research by Varner updates a previous paper released six years ago that looked at domestic migration to and from California following a 2004 income tax hike.

“One reason we wanted to update our previous paper is that this tax change in 2012 is the largest state tax change that we have seen in the U.S. for the last three decades,” Varner said.

Prop. 30 raised the state’s top income tax rate by 8%, increasing it one percentage point from 12.3% to 13.3%, which is now the highest state income tax rate in the nation. Prop. 30 also hiked the tax rate on income between $300,000 and $500,000 by two percentage points, and raised the rate on income in excess of $500,000 by three percentage points.

  9. Union workers picket in Vegas, worried about pay, security and robots taking their jobs

LAS VEGAS — After a month without a contract, union employees applied new pressure to casino properties Friday by running picket lines of hundreds of workers on Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas.

Along with concerns about wages, the union workers hope new contracts will address increased use of robots to do their work, and — in the shadow of last year’s mass shooting — security.

The Las Vegas Culinary Union chose the D Casino Hotel to make their statement in the morning, marching mostly under a large canopy that helped shade the workers on a day when authorities issued an excessive heat warning.

Temperatures were expected to reach 110 degrees later in the afternoon, when marchers planned to picket the Westgate Hotel & Casino.

Outside the D, people hurtled above the picket line on a zipline and street performers danced and sang in front of a souvenir shop hawking four T-shirts for $10. A kiosk next to the marchers was doing brisk business selling gaudy ties, sparkling plastic beads and a few rubber chickens.

“D Casino, look around,” the workers chanted. “Las Vegas is a union town.”

    Washington

After 18 months of Donald Trump’s “America First” presidency, European leaders meeting with him next week fear the United States may change its traditional course and begin to bring American troops home from the continent.

It comes as nations, especially in Eastern Europe, are lobbying the United States to increase the number of troops on the continent as they worry about combating an increasingly aggressive Russia.

Trump has talked about bringing U.S. troops home from around the globe since he was on the campaign trail espousing a strategy he dubbed “America First” but he has yet to act.

  11. North Korea Foreign Ministry says talks with Pompeo ‘regrettable,’ accuses US of unilateral demands for denuclearization

North Korea says high-level talks with a U.S. delegation led by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo were “regrettable” and has accused Washington of trying to unilaterally pressure the country into abandoning its nukes.

The statement by an unnamed North Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman on Saturday came hours after Pompeo concluded two days of talks with North Korean officials led by Kim Yong Chol.

The statement says that the United States betrayed the spirit of last month’s summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un by making unilateral demands on “CVID,” or the complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization of North Korea.

It says the outcome of the follow-up talks was “very concerning” because it has led to a “dangerous phase that might rattle our willingness for denuclearization that had been firm.”

  12. Gun group detained by NYPD, had property confiscated for minor citation at Pride parade
By Daily Caller News Foundation July 6, 2018

A Utah-based gun group was detained and had their military armored personnel carrier and replica gun confiscated while attending the LGBT PrideFest in New York City.

Utah Gun Exchange (UGE) was bringing awareness to LGBT and minority gun rights during Pride Week by exhibiting the only civilian-operated Lenco BearCat, which the group adorned with American flags and gay pride flags.

“We feel like Second Amendment issues are LGBT issues, and we found out that is absolutely the case,” Bryan Melchior, co-owner of UGE, told The Daily Caller News Foundation. “When you talk about firearms and the defense of yourself and others, one thing LGBT people are very passionate about is their love and their love for their partners, and they’ll do anything to defend them.”

  13. Report: FBI assigned top ‘surveillance’ expert as liaison to Trump transition team in 2016
    By J.E. Dyer July 6, 2018

In a 6 July report at The Hill, John Solomon provides information from newly released emails and memos among FBI staffers in the period just before and after the 2016 election. The correspondence is being reviewed on Capitol Hill, and was produced by the Justice Department and FBI in partial response to the demand for documents from the House of Representatives.

(The document release doesn’t satisfy the House’s requirement; it’s the subject of the standoff that may lead to a contempt proceeding against Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.)

Solomon’s sources describe, among other things, even more anxiety from Peter Strzok to gain adverse information on Trump. At one point, for example, he speaks of keeping “the hurry the F up pressure on” Andrew McCabe to get the FISA application for Carter Page signed by the Justice Department.

But it’s this little nugget down near the end of the article that catches attention. I include here the lead-in to the nugget, because it’s worth discussing too. Emphasis added:

    https://libertyunyielding.com/2018/07/06/report-fbi-assigned-top-surveillance-expert-as-liaison-to-trump-transition-team-in-2016/

    • The scandal grows and grows, the article says, not suggests says that there were at a minimum 2 investigations into Trump and that they were probably started before he formally started running for President. Both investigations implanted people in Trumps campaign, for information purposes and possible to try and sabotage the campaign.

I don’t know what they mean by scrub, the only thing I can think of is to go into the files and remove the sources name from all documents, possibly changing the source to a totally different person.

The scariest thing (to me anyway) is the way a bugging expert was put on the advisory team after the election. Rodgers (according to a lot of reports) had told Trump his headquarters were bugged they had moved to a secure location, now a bugging expert was sent in to ensure that the flow of information continued.

The left was scared that Trump was/is going to strip their power from them and return us to a free nation. Yesterday late in the show Bongino warned that we have to win the battle over the Mueller witch hunt or we will lose the Republic. All of our rights will be stripped from us. He isn’t overstating the threat or the need to ensure that Trump gets 2 terms, hopefully followed by another solid conservative to appoint conservative originalist Judges who will return the Judiciary to enforcing the laws and not writing the laws. As I set here writing this opinion/rant it is looking like Trump is going to appoint Circuit Judge Amy Coney Barrett. Her confirmation hearings will touch off a massive attack on Christianity and Conservatism by the left this doesn’t mean she won’t be confirmed but it does mean the Dems are going to have to take their masks off and show that they hate all religions and are out to destroy them.

One of the things that we are going to hear a lot about is a living breathing Constitution instead of a dead document. The living breathing Constitution is one where Judges change the meaning everytimg public opinion changes, the so called dead document stays with the original intent of the Constitution and the laws and requires a formal amendment to change the rights in the Constitution and requires legislative action to change the laws. What they want is to bring the selective enforcement of Europe and Canada to the US in a even bigger manner then is currently happening.

The left in the US is losing and is turning violent, they will become more violent the more they lose. They don’t trust the voters and don’t care what they want, they also think they can terrorize us into letting them strip us of all of our rights.

          • Thomas Jefferson to Joseph C. Cabell
            2 Feb. 1816Writings 14:421–23

No, my friend, the way to have good and safe government, is not to trust it all to one, but to divide it among the many, distributing to every one exactly the functions he is competent to. Let the national government be entrusted with the defence of the nation, and its foreign and federal relations; the State governments with the civil rights, laws, police, and administration of what concerns the State generally; the counties with the local concerns of the counties, and each ward direct the interests within itself. It is by dividing and subdividing these republics from the great national one down through all its subordinations, until it ends in the administration of every man’s farm by himself; by placing under every one what his own eye may superintend, that all will be done for the best. What has destroyed liberty and the rights of man in every government which has ever existed under the sun? The generalizing and concentrating all cares and power into one body, no matter whether of the autocrats of Russia or France, or of the aristocrats of a Venetian senate. And I do believe that if the Almighty has not decreed that man shall never be free, (and it is a blasphemy to believe it,) that the secret will be found to be in the making himself the depository of the powers respecting himself, so far as he is competent to them, and delegating only what is beyond his competence by a synthetical process, to higher and higher orders of functionaries, so as to trust fewer and fewer powers in proportion as the trustees become more and more oligarchical. The elementary republics of the wards, the county republics, the State republics, and the republic of the Union, would form a gradation of authorities, standing each on the basis of law, holding every one its delegated share of powers, and constituting truly a system of fundamental balances and checks for the government. Where every man is a sharer in the direction of his ward-republic, or of some of the higher ones, and feels that he is a participator in the government of affairs, not merely at an election one day in the year, but every day; when there shall not be a man in the State who will not be a member of some one of its councils, great or small, he will let the heart be torn out of his body sooner than his power be wrested from him by a Caesar or a Bonaparte. How powerfully did we feel the energy of this organization in the case of embargo? I felt the foundations of the government shaken under my feet by the New England townships. There was not an individual in their States whose body was not thrown with all its momentum into action; and although the whole of the other States were known to be in favor of the measure, yet the organization of this little selfish minority enabled it to overrule the Union. What would the unwieldy counties of the Middle, the South, and the West do? Call a county meeting, and the drunken loungers at and about the courthouses would have collected, the distances being too great for the good people and the industrious generally to attend. The character of those who really met would have been the measure of the weight they would have had in the scale of public opinion. As Cato, then, concluded every speech with the words, “Carthago delenda est,” so do I every opinion, with the injunction, “divide the counties into wards.” Begin them only for a single purpose; they will soon show for what others they are the best instruments. God bless you, and all our rulers, and give them the wisdom, as I am sure they have the will, to fortify us against the degeneracy of our government, and the concentration of all its powers in the hands of the one, the few, the well-born or the many.

For days, they kept the victim bound and gagged while they took turns beating and kicking him, forcing his head into a toilet, and shouting racial slurs against him and Donald Trump.

The incident might have escaped the authorities’ attention if the four had chosen not to live-stream their unspeakable actions on YouTube. But they did, and once police got hold of the “trophy” video, the four perpetrators were arrested.

By Joe Newby July 6, 2018

Apparently Brandon Straka doesn’t understand the rules. On Thursday, the New York hairdresser who started the #WalkAway campaign, which urges Democrats to jump ship before their party sinks, was abused and discriminated against at a camera store.

“I’m shaking right now. I just went into a camera store to buy a camera and a light and mic, etc. and they recognized me from tv. I was refused service because they said it was for “alt right” purposes. That literally just happened,” he tweeted.

  16. Socialist darling Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called for tax cuts when she was running a business
By Daily Caller News Foundation July 6, 2018

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the upstart Democratic Socialist who shocked the political world in the June primary when she defeated 10-term incumbent Rep. Joseph Crowley of New York, once advocated for tax cuts when she was running a business of her own, uncovered news reports from 2012 reveal.

Ocasio-Cortez, 28, is a dues-paying member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), an organization that calls for the abolishment of capitalism and argues that “private corporate property is not only wrong, but also nonsensical.” Her campaign platform calls for instituting a single-payer health care system, a federal jobs guarantee and housing as a human right, plus radical and expensive policies she says will be funded through raising taxes on corporations and high-income Americans.

But Ocasio-Cortez appeared to have had a different outlook on capitalism and taxes in 2012 when she was running a business of her own, Brook Avenue Press, an incorporated publishing firm for children’s books set in the Bronx. As a business owner, she came out in support of a bill that would provide tax deductions for business start-up costs, arguing that taxes directly impacted her business profits.

“You don’t really make a profit in your first year,” Ocasio-Cortez told the now-defunct DNAinfo when she was 22. “To get taxed on top of that is a real whammy.”

He spends as little time in the country as possible. There is a vocal, pro-Western, secular opposition based in London.

A merger of some sort makes sense. Dwarf-Kinglet is a Beduin from the Hejaz; the population of Jordan is 80% “Palestinian”. The Arabs in Judea and Samaria (aka the ‘West Bank’) held Jordanian passports until they were illegally and unilaterally stripped of their citizenship in 1988.

  21. Deutsche Welle – French court sentences ‘ignorant’ anti-Semitic attackers

The sentencing in France of three men for an anti-Semitic rape-robbery in Paris in 2014 has revived concerns within the Jewish community. The men’s defense lawyer claimed they were not anti-Semitic but ignorant.

The court gave the three men sentences of eight, 13 and 16 years for the crime they carried out in the Creteil suburb of Paris in 2014.

A 22-year-old who made comments including “for my brothers in Palestine,” and suggesting they should “gas” their victims during the attack, before destroying all the Jewish images in the apartment, is still on the run. He was sentenced in absentia.

The 26-year-old and 23-year-old co-accused were in court for the sentencing. They have already been detained for four years.

Defense lawyer Marie Dose told the court in Val-de-Marne, southeast of the French capital on Friday: “They are not anti-Semitic, they are ignorant. They are swimming in gross stupidity.”

Prosecutors said there was no doubt the victims had been chosen because the attackers believed them to be Jewish.

Speaking as a civil party in the trial, Dorothee Bisaccia-Bernstein for the League against Racism and Antisemitism (LICRA) told the court and the judges: “You are not asked to say that the accused are anti-Semites. The only question you are asked is: were their victims targeted because they were Jewish?”

One of the accused in court had been questioned about a number of incidents during his detention since his arrest after the December 2014 attack. “The director of the prison is Jewish, she knows me because of this case,” he said. Asked by Bisaccia-Bernstein how he knew she was Jewish, he said: “I can see it in her eyes.”

    A targeted attack

The victims, 21-year-old Jonathan and 20-year-old Laurine had been alone in the Paris apartment which belonged to Jonathan’s parents at the time of the attack. The three men, armed and hooded, had rung the doorbell. Laurine answered and the men forced their way in, putting a gun in Jonathan’s mouth. They demanded “where is the money?”

“Jews do not put money in the bank,” one of them said.

“We know your father is Jewish,” one of the attackers said. “He goes out with a round cap on his head and he has a black Mercedes.”

    Effect on the victims

The victims also spoke of the effects of the attack on them, which had lasted for an hour and a half.

Jonathan said his whole life had collapsed: “You never feel safe, never,” he told the court. “Afterwards, I lost my job, I had to see psychiatrists, I still have nightmares. That’s what I want to tell the accused. They attacked people who have the same age as them, and ruined their lives.”

The couple have since separated. “We did not know how to talk to each other, in fact,” Jonathan said. “Just one word would often revive the whole incident.”

He said he felt responsible for the attack in some way, especially after Laurine had gone back to her home town where she is now working as a chamber maid. Jonathan is working as a driver.

Prosecuting counsel commented during the hearing: “To say that ‘Jews have money’ is a prejudice, but it is not criminal. You have to fight it by going to schools. But racial prejudice, this human imbecility, becomes a prejudiced act when it is used to target its victims.”

France has the largest Jewish population in Europe, but a rising number of attacks and experiences of expressed prejudice has caused an estimated 50,000 to leave the country in recent years.

    https://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/07/07/bishop-europe-migrant-crisis-orchestrated-international-powers/

“The Catholic church is being used as a pawn in a well-orchestrated plan to radically alter the Christian identity of European nations through mass migration, said Bishop Athanasius Schneider in a bombshell interview last week.

Schneider, who serves as auxiliary bishop of Astana, Kazakhstan, told the Italian daily Il Giornale that the current migrant crisis “represents a plan orchestrated and prepared for a long time by international powers to radically alter the Christian and national identity of the peoples of Europe.”

To achieve their objectives, these powers abuse “the true concept of humanism and even the Christian commandment of charity,” Schneider said, exploiting the moral authority of the church for anti-Christian purposes.

The powers in question “use the enormous moral potential of the church and their own structures to achieve their anti-Christian and anti-European goal more effectively,” he said.

The interview was released in the midst of a series of initiatives by Pope Francis to bring about a “change in mindset” regarding immigration by focusing on the positive contributions of immigrants rather than the negative fallout from mass migration.

Asked for his opinion of Italian populist politician Matteo Salvini, who now serves as interior minister, the bishop said he is unqualified to speak on Italy’s political situation but praised the general direction that Italy is now taking, especially by standing up to the European Union (EU), which he compared to the Soviet Union…”

  24. Trump lawyers call Comey ‘Machiavellian’ in note to Mueller

WASHINGTON (AP) — Lawyers for President Donald Trump unleashed a blistering attack on former FBI Director James Comey in a confidential memo last year to the special counsel, casting him as “Machiavellian,” dishonest and “unbounded by law and regulation” as they sought to undermine the credibility of a law enforcement leader they see as a critical witness against the president.

The letter , obtained by The Associated Press, provides a window into the formation of a legal strategy currently used by Trump’s lawyers as they seek to pit the president’s word against that of the former FBI director. Comey’s firing in May 2017 helped set in motion the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller, and one-on-one conversations with Trump that Comey documented in a series of memos helped form the basis of Mueller’s inquiry into whether the president obstructed justice.

Mueller is looking broadly into Russia’s meddling in the U.S. election and its contacts with people in Trump’s campaign.

The June 27, 2017, letter was written by Marc Kasowitz, then the president’s lead lawyer, as Mueller and his team were in the early stages of their investigation into Trump associates and as they had begun examining whether the president, by firing Comey, had sought to stymie an FBI investigation into the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia. The White House initially pointed as justification for the firing to a Justice Department memo that faulted Comey for his handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation, though Trump later said that “this Russia thing” was on his mind when he made the move.

The NATO-led mission in Afghanistan says one U.S. service member was killed and two others wounded in an “apparent insider attack” in southern Afghanistan.

NATO’s training and assistance mission in Afghanistan, Resolute Support, said in a statement that the two U.S. service members injured in the July 7 incident were in stable condition and that an investigation was under way.

reuters U.S. service member killed in apparent insider attack in Afghanistan

KABUL (Reuters) – One U.S. service member was killed and two others wounded in an apparent insider attack in southern Afghanistan, the NATO-led Resolute Support mission said on Saturday.

In a statement, the Taliban said a member of the Afghan security forces opened fire on U.S. troops in the southern province of Uruzgan, killing four people and wounding several others.

Saturday’s incident comes just over a year after three U.S. soldiers were killed by an Afghan soldier in the eastern province of Nangarhar.

Insider attacks, often known as “green on blue” attacks in which Afghan service members or attackers wearing Afghan uniforms fire on U.S. or coalition troops, have been a regular feature of the conflict in Afghanistan, although their frequency has diminished in recent years.

Coalition forces have also tightened security and added extra force protection measures including special “Guardian Angel” units to accompany training units.

The Resolute Support statement said the two wounded on Saturday were in a stable condition and the incident was being investigated. But it gave no further details, saying the name of the service member killed would be withheld until next of kin were notified.

Last year, the United States added thousands of additional troops to its forces in Afghanistan, which are engaged in both training and advising Afghan forces and conducting counterterrorist missions against Islamic State and other militant groups.

As in other areas of the war, Afghan units suffer more heavily than coalition units from insider attacks. A Pentagon report last month said there were 47 so-called “green-on-green” attacks, or incidents where Afghan soldiers turn on their own side, so far this year.

  27. The Abuse of Egypt’s Coptic Christians

We have seen and recoiled from the horrific footage of Coptic Christians beheaded by ISIS in 2015 in Libya and the repeated bombings over the past two decades of Coptic churches in Egypt. We read about the Maspero massacre in 2011, when Egyptian military tanks, deployed to protect peaceful Christian demonstrators, instead rolled over them, crushing many to death. And we continue to receive reports of Coptic girls abducted, compelled to convert to Islam and forced into marriages with Muslims.

Each time there is news of another act of hate-filled violence against the Copts, or other religious minorities, we shudder. When there are attacks against Yazidis in the Fertile Crescent, the Baha’is in Iran and Christians and Ahmadis in Pakistan, we ask how Muslims can affirm these crimes against humanity perpetrated under the banner of Islam.

Apart from condemning the visible/demonstrable bigotry and violence — and from appealing to Western governments for assistance — Muslims opposed to Islamist extremism are at a loss about what needs to be done to hold the governments of Egypt and other Muslim-majority states accountable for their failure to protect their religious minorities from the sectarian violence that is regularly directed at them.

Here, regarding the Copts in Egypt, are a few preliminary observations that might serve as a proposal for how Muslims and non-Muslims, working together, might find a way out of this terrible situation and ensure their mutual survival and peaceful co-existence:

Abdulrahman, 29, admitted in court in Zwickau that he had evaded German law enforcement using 23 fake identities from Morocco, Syria, Iraq and Algeria.

“Regulations have been made allowing the formation of an independent and local credit rating agency in Turkey, the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) head has said.

The new measure provides regulations for licensing credit rating agencies and their activities, Mehmet Ali Akben, the head of the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK), told Anadolu Agency.

Previously, Akben said Turkey was aiming to establish a national credit rating agency in 2018.

“In Turkey, we have been working for a long time to establish an independent and local credit rating agency which is alive to Turkey’s requirements, has a strong, high-level acceptability, and we ended this work at last,” he said.

“Former US President Barack Obama warned in Madrid on Friday (July 7) of “a rise in nationalism” and the potential of new media to accelerate social divisions.

“We’re in a difficult time, politically, socially … people feel very anxious,” said Obama, who left office last year.

“Change is happening very quickly. People are wondering can I adapt to these changes? People are fearful,” the former president told an audience of 2,000 people at a conference in Madrid on technological innovation and the circular economy, which minimises waste.

“We see a rise in nationalism” Obama told his audience.

The world needs to consider how to use the new technology to improve lives and ensure that it “does not accelerate division”, he added.

“Today because of the internet, and because of the multiplicity of media what we see more and more is that we don’t agree on the same reality.”

The former Democrat president highlighted in particular the US Fox News network,.

“If you watch Fox News you see a different reality than if you read the New York Times, he said. “Climate change is not happening at all” in media like Fox.

This phenomenon “has been “exploited by some forces internationally”, which “feed their biases”.

The solution, according to Obama, is to train young people”to think differently”..

    https://www.thelocal.dk/20180706/danish-prisons-switch-off-internet-for-inmates-after-extremist-content-found-on-playstations

“Denmark’s prisons agency Kriminalforsorgen has taken new steps to prevent the spread of extremist material in the country’s jails.

Citing security, the agency has shut down an online network used by prisoners in secured facilities, newspaper Jyllands-Posten reports.

The secure network SK-net, which gives prisoners in some facilities online access, has been closed by the prison regulator, according to the report.

One consequence of the decision is the cancellation of online study programmes and exams.

The decision is reported to have been made in April after extremist material was found on four Playstation consoles at a secure prison in Nyborg.

Although the consoles were not directly connected to the internet, Kriminalforsorgen believed the material to have been transferred to them via USB drives.

But the decision will affect all inmates, not only those in danger of being radicalised, said Frederik Jepsen, a board member with charity Landsforeningen Krim, which offers legal support to prisoners in Denmark.

Caution should be taken with measures that can constitute collective punishment, despite the need to increase security against potential radicalisation, Jepsen said.

“Individual assessments of prisoners are required to assess whether the individual in question is suitable for access to the SK-net,” he told Jyllands-Posten.

Prisoners have been left disappointed that they are currently unable to continue education programmes, he added.

Lars Rau Brysting, head of security with Kriminalforsorgen, told Jyllands-Posten that the agency had long considered whether to continue using the SK-net, but that the discoveries on the Playstations had made an immediate decision necessary.”

Justification for the increased security and police powers in a number of states has been given in terms of threats from extremist violence.

  37. BREITBART – Report: Memos show FBI’s ‘Hurry the F Up Pressure’ Weeks Before 2016 Election

Investigators have found additional communications between FBI official Peter Strzok and his lover, former FBI lawyer Lisa Page, that show his team was rushing in the fall of 2016 to find evidence of collusion by then-candidate Donald Trump, according to a new report.
The Hill‘s John Solomon reported that investigators have found communications that show “Strzok and his counterintelligence team rushing in the fall of 2016 to find ‘derogatory’ information from informants or a ‘pretext’ to accelerate the probe and get a surveillance warrant on figures tied to the future president.”

The unearthed memos show that Strzok, Page and others at the FBI seized on news articles in September 2016 that said the FBI was investigating former campaign adviser Carter Page’s travel to Moscow.

Page wrote a letter to then-FBI Director James Comey saying the stories were “completely false.”

But Strzok wrote to Page on September 26, 2016, “At a minimum, the letter provides us a pretext to interview.” Within weeks, the FBI began monitoring Carter Page’s communications with a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act court warrant.

One email exchange between Strzok and Page showed they discussed talking points to get then-FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe to get a high-ranking DOJ official to sign off on the warrant.

“At a minimum, that keeps the hurry the F up pressure on him,” Strzok emailed Page on Oct. 14, 2016.

More communications show that four days later the FBI were rushing to get approval for another FISA warrant for another Russia-related investigation, code-named “Dragon.”

“Still an expedite?” one of the emails asked, regarding that second surveillance warrant.

“Any idea what time he can have it woods-ed by?” Strzok asked Page, referring to the Woods process to get the warrant approved. “I know it’s not going to matter because DOJ is going to take the time DOJ wants to take. I just don’t want this waiting on us at all.”

The day after Trump’s surprise win, the Strzok team discussed sharing “potential derogatory CI info” with others, presumably in the FBI. “CI” stands for “confidential informants.”

It has been reported that an FBI and CIA informant was used to surveil the Trump campaign — Cambridge professor Stefan Halper, who reached out to several campaign members as early as June 2016.

“I suggested we need to exchange our entire lists as we each have potential derogatory CI info the other doesn’t,” Strzok wrote on November 10, 2016.

    Solomon writes:

It’s an extraordinary exchange, if for no other reason than this: The very day after Trump wins the presidency, some top FBI officials are involved in the sort of gum-shoeing normally reserved for field agents, and their goal is to find derogatory information about someone who had worked for the president-elect.

The FBI also named an executive with expertise in the FBI’s most sensitive surveillance equipment to be a liaison to the Trump transition team, the communications show.

There are several investigations underway into whether the DOJ or the FBI mishandled their probe into the Trump campaign. The DOJ inspector general is months into its review, but it is not expected to wrap up anytime soon.

The House Judiciary, Government Reform and Oversight, Intelligence Committee, and Senate Judiciary and Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs Committees are also looking into DOJ/FBI conduct on the investigation.
