    In mid-July 2016, a retired American professor approached an adviser to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign at a symposium about the White House race held at a British university.

    The professor took the opportunity to strike up a conversation with Carter Page, whom Trump had named a few months earlier as a foreign policy adviser.

    But the professor was more than an academic interested in American politics — he was a longtime U.S. intelligence source. And, at some point in 2016, he began working as a secret informant for the FBI as it investigated Russia’s interference in the campaign, according to people familiar with his activities.

    The role played by the source is now at the center of a battle that has pitted President Trump against his own Justice Department and fueled the president’s attacks on the special counsel’s investigation. In a Thursday tweet, he called the probe “a disgusting, illegal and unwarranted Witch Hunt.”

    In recent days, Trump and his allies have escalated their claims that the FBI source improperly spied on the campaign.

  9. Santa Fe High School shooting: Suspect identified as Dimitrios Pagourtzis

    SANTA FE, Texas — The suspect in a deadly shooting rampage at a Texas high school Friday morning has been identified as 17-year-old Dimitrios Pagourtzis, officials say. Ten people were killed and 10 others wounded in the shooting Friday morning at Santa Fe High School south of Houston, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said.

    The suspected shooter, who was in custody, also had explosive devices, including a molotov cocktail, that were found in the school and nearby, said Gov. Greg Abbott, who called the assault “one of the most heinous attacks that we’ve ever seen in the history of Texas schools.” Police found pressure cookers and pipe bombs around the school, one law enforcement source told CBS News.

    Pagourtzis has been booked into the Galveston County jail and is being held with no bond on charges of capital murder and aggravated assault of a peace officer. Additional charges may follow, according to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office.

    A substitute teacher and several students were among the dead, law enforcement sources tell CBS News senior investigative producer Pat Milton.

  10. Accused Texas high school gunman described as bullied loner in a trench coat

    SANTA FE, Texas (Reuters) – The teen accused of killing 10 people in a mass shooting at his Texas high school on Friday was described by fellow students as a quiet loner who played football but kept to himself and was reportedly the victim of some bullying.

    The suspect, identified as 17-year-old Dimitrios Pagourtzis, was a junior at Santa Fe High School near Houston. Classmates remembered he often wore a trench coat, similar to the garment authorities said the assailant used to conceal the two firearms he carried into the school.

    Texas Governor Greg Abbott told reporters the gunman was armed with a shotgun and a .38 revolver, both of which he had taken from his father. It was not known if the father was aware his son had possession of the guns.

    While Abbott said there were few advance warning signs that the suspect had violent tendencies, one ominous social media post was an image of a black T-shirt with the words “Born to Kill” found on the Pagourtzis’ Facebook page.

    Investigators late Friday were still trying to unravel the motivations of Oddi, a 42-year-old fitness junkie and businessman who appeared to become unhinged while attacking the Trump National Doral Miami resort.

    Istanbul (AFP) – A summit in Istanbul of Muslim heads of state on Friday called for the creation of an international peacekeeping force to protect the Palestinians, as host Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused Israel of “brutality” comparable to the Nazis.

    The 57-member Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) — seeking to bridge severe differences within the Muslim world — said in a final communique that Israel had carried out the “wilful murder” of some 60 Palestinians on the Gaza border Monday.

    Caracas (AFP) – Shrugging aside his country’s economic ruin and growing international isolation, Venezuela’s socialist President Nicolas Maduro seeks a second six-year term in controversial elections Sunday that are being boycotted by the opposition.

    The US moved to further isolate his government on Friday, just two days before the polls, by slapping sanctions on Maduro’s powerful deputy and socialist party leader Diosdado Cabello.

    “We are imposing costs on figures like Diosdado Cabello who exploit their official positions to engage in narcotics trafficking, money laundering, embezzlement of state funds, and other corrupt activities,” said US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.

      • I doubt if the election he won was honest and I doubt that the Venezuelans have the weapons needed to remove him by force.

        What you have to consider is what will his reelection do to the surrounding nations? The people leaving Venezuela hunting food, jobs and medical care has already overwhelmed the invaded nations, they are very close to collapse themselves. What happens when the citizens of those nations and the Venezuelans swamp the nations surrounding them? All of South America is on shaky economic footing and it won’t take much to cause a continent wide economic collapse. If/when this collapse comes what will this mean for the rest of the world.

        While I at times forget my own advice remember that nothing is happening in a vacuum, there will be massive ripples and repercussions in the rest of the world from an economic collapse in South America.

        FYI the world has had a global economy since the 1500s and it is being tied closer together everyday.

    SHANGHAI (Reuters) – China’s air force has landed bombers on islands and reefs in the South China Sea as part of a training exercise in the disputed region, it said in a statement.

    “A division of the People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) recently organised multiple bombers such as the H-6K to conduct take-off and landing training on islands and reefs in the South China Sea in order to improve our ability to ‘reach all territory, conduct strikes at any time and strike in all directions’,” it said in the statement issued on Friday.

    It said the pilot of the H-6K bomber conducted assault training on a designated sea target and then carried out take-offs and landings at an airport in the area, describing the exercise as preparation for “the West Pacific and the battle for the South China Sea”.

  16. Top Paris restaurant probed over ‘anti-Arab discrimination

    Paris (AFP) – French authorities launched an investigation Friday into accusations that a top Parisian restaurant, favoured by celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Rihanna, systematically sought to decline reservations from Arab, African or veil-wearing customers.

    The Buzzfeed website reported on Thursday that L’Avenue, an ultra-chic brasserie near the famed Champs-Elysees boulevard, had “put in place a veritable system of discrimination”, notably turning down reservations from diners with Arabic-sounding names.

    Middle-Eastern tourists from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Bahrain were also told that the restaurant was fully booked, Buzzfeed said in its investigation, based on testimony from four former waitresses.

    “If a veiled woman showed up to the restaurant, they had to be told that the restaurant was full, even if it was not,” the report said, adding that the former waitresses charged that the system was still in place.

  19. Plane crashes in Cuba killing more than 100, investigation underway

    HAVANA (Reuters) – More than 100 people were killed when a Boeing 737 crashed soon after taking off from Havana in what appeared to be Cuba’s worst air disaster in nearly 30 years, and there were only three survivors, officials and state media said on Friday.

    The passenger plane, on a domestic flight to Holguin in eastern Cuba, crashed at 12:08 p.m. (1608 GMT). There were 105 passengers, including five children, plus crew members, state media reported.

    Five of the passengers and the crew were foreign, according to media reports. Two Argentine citizens and an unspecified number of Mexicans were among the dead, the Argentine and Mexican governments said.

    President Miguel Diaz-Canel said in broadcast comments that a high number of people appeared to have been killed. He said the fire from the crash had been extinguished and authorities were identifying bodies.

    Diaz-Canel said authorities were investigating the cause of the crash.

  21. Clapper: If FBI spied on Trump, it was a ‘good thing’ for America

    It’s been a long day with a lot of tough news, and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper has added to it.

    He was interviewed on CNN on Thursday night. In the course of the interview, Don Lemon quoted from one of Trump’s latest tweets.

    [CNN’s Don] Lemon stated, “Here’s what the president tweeted this morning. He said, ‘Wow, word seems to be coming out that the Obama FBI spied on the Trump campaign with an embedded informant. Andrew McCarthy says, ‘There’s probably no doubt that they had at least one confidential informant in the campaign.’ If so, this is bigger than Watergate!’”

    Lemon continued, “That is an extraordinary claim, and based on your experience, what is the likelihood that it’s true?”

    Here’s how Clapper responded:

    Clapper answered, “Well, I think this is hyperbole. They may have someone who was talking to them in the campaign, but the focus here, as it was with the intelligence community, is not on the campaign, per se, but what the Russians were doing to try to instantiate themselves in the campaign or to influence it or leverage it.”

    Then Clapper made his outrageous statement: “So, if there was someone that was observing that sort of thing, that’s a good thing because the Russians pose a threat to the very basis of our political system.”

    • Here is the last sentence in the article: Clapper whiffed at bat on that, but he’s certainly not the only one. The way of thinking he articulated Thursday night is a dead letter. Too many of the people know the difference. And that, at least, is some good news to balance the bad.

      Yes too many people recognize what Obama and his people did is a very big threat to our Constitutional Republic and to the very idea of limited government with individual rights and liberty for all. This is scaring the left more then anything, the ordinary people who are held in disdain by the leftist self proclaimed elite who wish to rule us. The idea that the unwashed masses has finally recognized what they are doing and are rejecting the leftist ideas is the cause of nightmares for them and the reason they are upping the rhetoric to foment violence in an attempt to terrorize us into allowing them to take total control of the United States. This is also the reason that so many people are buying more firearms and ammo, the armed citizens of the US thought that the need to be armed enough to take on the government was over for at least 4 and hopefully 8 years. Now the Dems are showing that they are checking to see if the time is right to change their quiet political coup into a violent aggressive one. Combine this with the new aggression shown by the illegal immigration open borders groups and the increased aggression of the Islamic Invaders and we have a recipe for a major and long term low intensity war in North America. I say North America because this war will not remain in the US it will spread North. I won’t say it will spread South because Mexico is a failed state where the criminal gangs control as much of the nation as the government.

    The girl was in a van carrying 30 Kurdish migrants which had been pursued for an hour in southern Belgium.

    The chase, which began on a motorway near the town of Namur, involved a scuffle, police said.

    A police spokesman said they did not know whether the fatal shot had been fired by a police officer.

    A police investigation has been launched into how the girl died, including whether there were guns in the van.

    An initial report from the emergency services had stated mistakenly that the cause of death was a head injury.

    “The autopsy determined the cause of death was a bullet that entered the cheek,” prosecutor Frederic Bariseau told the AFP news agency.

  26. What is really driving the epidemic of mass shootings?

    This morning another deadly rampage occurred at another high school, leaving ten people dead. This time the location was Santa Fe High School in the Houston suburb of the same name.

    As has become the custom in our country, the kneejerk collective reactions from the Left — more gun control, disband the NRA — began to appear on Twitter and in the media before the blood had a chance to dry.

    CNN reports that this is “the third school shooting in eight days, and the 22nd since the beginning of the year, in the United States,” taking care to omit mention of the fact that one of the shootings was thwarted by a “good guy with a gun,” who wounded the shooter.

    But the more relevant fact in today’s shooting — that the two individuals arrested in connection with the shooting are both believed to be students at the school — is receiving less play. That’s unfortunate because it overlooks a vital ingredient in these shootings: the copycat factor.

    • I wish that more media outlets, especially those in the propaganda media, would pay attention to how their using the mass shootings to further their political advantage is causing copy cats and with the increased saturation coverage of such shootings there will be more copy cats.

      One thing that is missing from the article is how the mass shootings are to an extent, possibly a large extent caused by the lefts deliberate destruction of the traditional moral code and replacing it with a code that says “if it feels good do it”. There are other factors in this but that is the big one, the lack of an underlying moral code will destroy any and all societies. This is the goal of the left, they are trying to destroy the West so they can use the military and industrial forces of the west to conquer the world and establish their socialist utopia. A utopia that will collapse the way Venezuela has collapsed, they way all socialist society collapses because the socialist refuse to admit that they can’t change human nature through social programing. They can stop people acting in their own best interest for a while but eventually reality will break through the programing and people will react the way their ancestors reacted.

    Ibrahim said in a hearing session before the parliament’s legislative committee on Friday that it was important to approve financial rewards to make counterterrorism more effective.

    “Financial rewards are among the most important mechanisms adopted in the field of combating terrorism and its prevention in most world countries as they contribute effectively to stimulate the reporting of perpetrators of these crimes,” Ibrahim added.

    Unlike the Anti-Terrorism Act, the Tunisian Anti-Corruption Act approves a financial reward for whistleblowers for financial corruption offenses.

    In this context, Ibrahim urged that the same step be taken in the field of the fight against terrorism.

    The Parliament’s General Legislation Committee is considering discussing proposals for amendments to the Anti-Terrorism and Money Laundering Act 2015 to meet international standards.

    The amendments follow enlisting Tunisia, by the European Union, in a blacklist of the countries exposed to money laundering and terrorism financing.

    “We propose provisions that explicitly provide financial rewards for terrorist crimes whistleblowers and take measures to protect them,” the minister explained.

    A dozen major American media and Internet outlets hired a Russian company called EastBanc Technologies to help with IT and web services, according to a Daily Caller News Foundation investigation. The companies include The Washington Post, Time, Newsweek, Slate, Facebook, AOL, Comcast and U.S. News & World Report.

    Former U.S. intelligence officers slammed the media companies for hypocrisy in retaining a Russian firm while criticizing others who have even tangential ties to Russians. They also considered their decision to trust their web back-end to a foreign-based company naive.

    “This clearly is a hypocrisy issue,” retired Col. James Waurishuk, a former deputy director for intelligence at the U.S. Central Command and a senior national security analyst with the National Security Counsel under President George H.W. Bush, told TheDCNF. “All of the media companies have reported Trump and the Russian collusion story that all things Russians are bad. So why are they doing business with a Russian company?”

    EastBanc is based and incorporated in Washington, D.C. On the surface, it appears to be a successful stand-alone American IT company. The company provides many traditional tech services including data analytics, cloud services and business intelligence, according to the company’s U.S. website.

  31. Woman to be jailed for 3 months in France for refusing to remove niqab

    A French court has handed a woman a six-month prison sentence for refusing a police officer’s request that she remove her niqab. The decision has sparked outrage in the French Muslim community.

    The sentence follows the woman’s dramatic arrest in the southern city of Toulouse last month after she was stopped by police for wearing a full-face veil, which is illegal in France.

    She allegedly showed a poor-quality photocopy of her identity card and refused to lift her veil to let the officers see her face. After numerous attempts to have her remove the veil, the woman began to scream for help.

    The woman was placed under arrest and moved into a police vehicle. The police officers were then confronted by a group of approximately 30 people. Officers attempted to dispel the crowd using tear gas and by discharging their weapons. The incident is blamed for sparking furious riots in the city with more than a dozen cars burnt out over two nights of unrest.

    The 37-year-old woman was handed the six-month sentence, with three months suspended, by the Toulouse Criminal Court on Thursday, FranceInfo reports. She was prosecuted for contempt, rebellion, and for making death threats against the police. She was also given a €100 fine and €1,000 in damages to be split between two police officers.

    In the aftermath of her detention, the woman rejected the police version of events, saying the officers subjected her to insults. She also denied wearing the niqab, according to earlier reports.

    The sentencing has provoked anger among the French Muslim community. The Islam&Info Facebook page, which has over 400,000 followers, posted a statement condemning the verdict. “She’s the one who got molested by the police and we’re condemning this mom to prison,” it said of the woman at the center of the case. “Islamophobic injustice is at all levels in France. May Allah protect her and facilitate her.”

    What kind of coffee were they drinking? Were the pastries cut up and spoon fed to them by an army of angels?

    When the expense was incurred, Trudeau was in London for a cabinet retreat.

    While I understand the need for staff to be there, and to be fed and watered, I don’t understand the outrageous cost for just six employees.

    Of course outrageous expenses and Trudeau are terms that go together.

    In the fall of 2016 it was reported that the cost to feed and water people on the PM’s first two international trips amounted to $1,300 per person. Then there were the reports of free flowing booze on the PM’s international trips.

    During Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s week-long official trip to China last December, more than $2,200 worth of alcohol — 121 bottles of wine and 241 cans of beer — was consumed on flights. That amount translates to about two bottles of wine and four cans of beer for each of the roughly 56 passengers for the flights to and from China.

    Members of Solidarity Without Borders said their gathering at the Lacolle border was a show of welcome to the refugee claimants and an attempt to block a demonstration by a rival group.

    They called for open borders and denounced the policies of right-wing group Storm Alliance, which had planned a rival protest against what it describes as illegal immigration.

    As of mid-afternoon, it was unclear if any members of Storm Alliance were on site.

    The RCMP says some 7,300 asylum seekers have crossed the border between January and April at a popular irregular crossing a few kilometres from Lacolle.

    Last year, some 19,000 people crossed the border into Quebec to claim refugee status.

    There were rumblings on Thursday that the Trump administration was considering cutting serious levels of funding to Planned Parenthood. While not a complete defunding of the pro-abortion organization, it would give the conservative base and the pro-life movement something to cheer: a massive budget cut. For years, Republicans have been promising to take on the ghouls running Planned Parenthood, who were forced into the public relations battle of their lives three years ago.

    In 2015, David Daleiden’s Center for Medical Progress released a series of graphic videos that reportedly shows Planned Parenthood officials engaging in illegal trafficking of human body parts. Yes, the GOP budget, which passed through reconciliation on a 52-47 vote, gutted Planned Parenthood for a year and some parts of Obamacare, but it was vetoed by then-President Obama. Since then, there has been a lot of talk and no action. At the Conservative Political Action Conference in February, there was a side panel whose topic centered on whether the conservative movement was serious about defunding Planned Parenthood.
