The modern day:
The squirrel works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks he’s a fool, and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the squirrel is warm and well fed.
A social worker finds the shivering grasshopper, calls a press conference and demands to know why the squirrel should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others less fortunate, like the grasshopper, are cold and starving. The BBC shows up to provide live coverage of the shivering grasshopper; with cuts to a video of the squirrel in his comfortable warm home with a table laden with food.
The British press inform people that they should be ashamed that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so, while others have plenty. The Labour Party, Greenpeace, Animal Rights and The Grasshopper Council of GB demonstrate in front of the squirrel’s house. The BBC, interrupting a cultural festival special from Notting Hill with breaking news, broadcasts a multi cultural choir singing “We Shall Overcome”. Ken Livingstone rants in an interview with Trevor McDonald that the squirrel has gotten rich off the backs of grasshoppers, and calls for an immediate tax hike on the squirrel to make him pay his “fair share” and increases the charge for squirrels to enter inner London.
In response to pressure from the media, the Government drafts the Economic Equity and Grasshopper Anti Discrimination Act, retroactive to the beginning of the summer. The squirrel’s taxes are reassessed. He is taken to court and fined for failing to hire grasshoppers as builders for the work he was doing on his home and an additional fine for contempt when he told the court the grasshopper did not want to work.
The grasshopper is provided with a council house, financial aid to furnish it and an account with a local taxi firm to ensure he can be socially mobile. The squirrels food is seized and re distributed to the more needy members of society, in this case the grasshopper.
Without enough money to buy more food, to pay the fine and his newly imposed retroactive taxes, the squirrel has to downsize and start building a new home. The local authority takes over his old home and utilises it as a temporary home for asylum seeking cats who had hijacked a plane to get to Britain as they had to share their country of origin with mice. On arrival the tried to blow up the airport because of Britain’s apparent love of dogs.
The cats had been arrested for the international offence of hijacking and attempted bombing but were immediately released because the police fed them pilchards instead of salmon whilst in custody. Initial moves to then return them to their own country were abandoned because it was feared they would face death by the mice. The cats devise and start a scam to obtain money from people’s credit cards.
A Panorama special shows the grasshopper finishing up the last of the squirrel’s food, though Spring is still months away, while the council house he is in, crumbles around him because he hasn’t bothered to maintain the house. He is shown to be taking drugs. Inadequate government funding is blamed for the grasshoppers drug ‘illness’.
The cats seek recompense in the British courts for their treatment since arrival in UK.
The grasshopper gets arrested for stabbing an old dog during a burglary to get money for his drugs habit. He is imprisoned but released immediately because he has been in custody for a few weeks. He is placed in the care of the probation service to monitor and supervise him. Within a few weeks he has killed a guinea pig in a botched robbery.
A commission of enquiry, that will eventually cost £10,000,000 and state the obvious, is set up.
Additional money is put into funding a drug rehabilitation scheme for grasshoppers and legal aid for lawyers representing asylum seekers is increased. The asylum seeking cats are praised by the government for enriching Britain’s multicultural diversity and dogs are criticised by the government for failing to befriend the cats.
The grasshopper dies of a drug overdose. The usual sections of the press blame it on the obvious failure of government to address the root causes of despair arising from social inequity and his traumatic experience of prison. They call for the resignation of a minister.
The cats are paid a million pounds each because their rights were infringed when the government failed to inform them there were mice in the United Kingdom.
The squirrel, the dogs and the victims of the hijacking, the bombing, the burglaries and robberies have to pay an additional percentage on their credit cards to cover losses, their taxes are increased to pay for law and order and they are told that they will have to work beyond 65 because of a shortfall in government funds.

After the incident Syria joined the OPCW and agreed to destroy its chemical weapons arsenal. On January 4, 2016, the OPCW confirmed in a statement, that Syrian chemical weapons are completely destroyed.”
I have NEVER believed that Assad is stupid enough to target civilians with chemical weapons but whom do we know is always willing to sacrifice civilians for good propaganda or even clearing minefields?
In an age of precision ordnance, one might expect that an examination of the targets will lead to the motive.
As all targets seem to be Iranian, I suspect that the chemical weapons attack was, well, I don’t like to be too blunt because if I am right, then I do not want to hurt the operations. But it seems at least possible that the US needed a casus belli to take out Iranian assets in Syria, freeing both Israel AND Assad from Iranian threats and control respectively.
At the moment, nearly all kinetic conflicts in the area are by proxy. So a pretence needs to be maintained to avoid an escalation beyond what is necessary for a desirable outcome. So the Chem-weapons attack as a pretence to take out Iranian military assets is, well freaking awesome frankly. I don’t care in this context if the attack happened or not. I care that Assad, who at least seems to be a westernish sort of fellow and is more or less secular and who’s Christian and other minorities love, stays in control when surrounded by Sunni and Shiia psychos on nearly all sides.
For a fact there are people on this board who know a lot more about Middle Eastern politics than I do so on this next point I stand to be corrected.
But just guessing from the limited data set I have, I think Israel would prefer Assad as a neighbour, over a Caliphate. Especially if Assad was firmly in control of his own country and not a puppet state of Iran. Which he seems to have been.
Hizb’allah is the tool of control and for years and years Israel has been taking out weapons shipments between Iran and them in Syria without doing any strategic harm to Syria itself, or even killing its personnel.
So my guess is that if President Trump was able to return some autonomy to Syria by taking out Iranian assets, the exact opposite approach to Obama’s, then things might be similar to the new Korean Peninsula. I think the expression is, “Yoffi”.
But then I could be way way off base. Its just that the data supports it on that one level.
This makes as much sense as any other scenario I have read and more then most. All of the evidence fits up to and including that the chemical attack was a fake. It also fits with the articles Yucki has been posting from the various Israeli think tanks about how Iran is expected to be ready to fight a major war against Israel in one or two years but needs to build various factories and get their Naval base on the Med active.
As I have said and Yucki agrees with, this is the Middle East, you can’t tell the players without out a program and then you will still be wrong at times. Guessing what is happening there is a game for experts on the region and a lot of the time they get it wrong.

Syria: Hundreds of mines found with NATO origin – Russian Reconciliation Centre for Syria
A mine-clearing operation saw hundreds of explosives being laid out in Douma on Wednesday, following the city’s liberation from Jaysh al-Islam militants.
According to the Russian Reconciliation Centre for Syria, Syrian sappers have so far detected and defused a total of 1.2 thousand mines, 1.5 tonnes of explosive material and four thousand home-made explosive devices.
The centre also reported that an arsenal left behind by militants included landmines with the markings of manufacturers of NATO-member countries.
Douma’s demining process is expected to take at least three months from start to finish, the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Opposing Sides in Syria said.
The Russian Defence Ministry has stated that the evacuation of more than 21,000 militants and their family members concluded on April 13.

“French psychiatrist Pierre-François Godet has denied a causal link between radical Islamic terrorism and mental illness saying that he could find no objective studies that proved any direct links between the two.
Godet, who serves as head of the psychiatry unit at Saint-Cyr-au-Mont-d’Or hospital centre and is a member of the national office of the Union of Hospital Psychiatrists (SPH), said: “There is no scientific study showing an objective link between jihadist radicalism and this or that personality structure.”
In an article written for French magazine Lyon Capitale, Godet explains the difference between a mentally ill psychotic and a person without overt mental illness saying that the psychotic is prone to delirium and delusion.
“The two most common themes of delusion are the ideas of persecution (‘I am being hurt’) and the ideas of greatness (‘I fear nothing’),” he wrote and added that a delirious person would either think they were being persecuted by radical Islamic terrorists in the persecution sense, or would believe, “I am strong, because Allah is the strongest and he is with me.”
“In the second case, we may be confronted with a delusional psychotic who goes to the act by shouting ‘Allah hu akbar!’ But, what guides the gesture of this patient, it is not the jihadist radicalisation, it is the radical nature of his illness at this point in his evolution: he does not need to be ideologically radicalised by anyone or anything to act,” Godet said.
Godet profiles the average radical Islamic terrorist as being a young man “with a criminal or prison history, especially of petty crime with violence” – a profile which matches a study from the French Institute of International Relations (Ifri) released in March.
He added that many of the terrorists may exhibit personality disorders, however.
“My clinical point of view on these few portraits of jihadists that the press has given is, therefore, the following: I do not see mentally ill people among them, and identifiable personality traits are not part of psychiatric care,” he said.
Mental illness has been cited as a cause or motivation in the aftermath of a number of terrorist attacks including when a 26-year-old Palestinian migrant stabbed several people in Hamburg last year.
The prognosis of mental illness was made despite the migrant previously boasting about wanting to become a terrorist and being on a terror watch list.”

Persson directed much of his criticism at another former Prime Minister, Fredrik Reinfeldt, who he said told Swedes to “open your hearts” to mass migration without having any plan in how to deal with the crisis, Aftonbladet reports.
When asked why he chose to highlight the issue of mass migration in Sweden, the former Swedish leader said: “Because it throws shadows far ahead. Very many small poor municipalities in Sweden took great responsibility for that migration policy. And there is a risk that they may be abandoned.”
“The extra money that has expired from the state to deal with this strain, it is now running out. A new promise is required from the state to Sweden’s poorest municipalities that they should not stand the migration issue by themselves,” he added.
According to some reports, Swedish municipalities may have to raise taxes across the country in order to pay for the increased costs to social services and other factors due to mass migration.
Persson proposed solving the problem by restricting asylum applications while asking other European Union member states to take more asylum seekers and putting more of an emphasis on skilled worker immigrants.
Immigration has become one of the most focal issues leading up to this year’s national election in Sweden with the anti-mass migration Sweden Democrats taking the toughest line on the matter. Sweden Democrats leader Jimmie Åkesson has called for the migration board of Sweden to shift its focus entirely from accepting new arrivals to deporting failed asylum seekers.
As a result of the stance on migration and other issues, the SD has seen a surge in support from voters, especially young voters where the party leads polls for Swedish voters aged 18 to 34.”

What’s not to like about this endless, internecine Muslim strife?
The only truly significant problem that I see for Western military strategists is how best to utilize and perpetuate these petty, Islamic (redundant, I know) blood rivalries (redundant again, when speaking of the MME).
Either the Muslims sort out their jihadist elements by themselves or they all get nuked. I cannot twig out any other game plan. Western forces cannot possibly cull the well-camouflaged ranks of terrorists from Islam’s billion-plus masses.
There is only one cost-effective way to reach out and touch the better part of two billion people. And I can ink a promise that it doesn’t involve bullets.
Islam remains a burr under the saddle of an otherwise relatively forward-looking world. Only Communist China poses a similar (or much greater) threat.
One can only hope that Islam and Red China will not require kinetic responses (conventional or otherwise) at the same time. Our beautiful world might not survive having to simultaneously deal with this pair of thugs in a prompt manner.
In fact, this precipice of violent confrontation may well be what constantly discourages Western powers from going to town. In this misguided seeking to avoid violent confrontation, a nest of asymmetric, terrorist, scum has been allowed to spawn.
Rooting out this hive of thoroughly embedded doctrinalist barbarians will be far more costly, in both blood and treasure than all of the Crusades combined. It is for this specific reason that Islam must be obliged (or coerced, it matters not) to abandon jihad.

German police raid migrant shelter after failed deportation (abcnews, May 3, 2018)

“Hundreds of police officers raided a refugee shelter in the southern German town of Ellwangen on Thursday, days after an angry mob of migrants prevented authorities from deporting a 23-year-old man from Togo.
Bernhard Weber, deputy police chief in the nearby town of Aalen, said the operation was necessary because of the “unprecedented” situation officers had faced Monday when they’d arrived to pick up the Togolese man.
“They were massively prevented from doing so, violently, by about 150 to 200 African refugees,” Weber told reporters. He added that if the police were not able to do their jobs, that presented a “risk that a legal vacuum might emerge.”
He said a decision was taken to return Thursday to enforce the deportation of the man to Italy, which he transited on his way to Germany. Under European Union rules people have to apply for asylum in the first member state they enter.
Four people including one police officer were taken to the hospital for injuries suffered during the raid, while eight others were treated by paramedics at the scene.
Germany’s top security official backed the operation, which was carried out by Baden-Wuerttemberg state police.
“What happened there (Monday) was a slap in the face of the law-abiding population,” said Interior Minister Horst Seehofer.”

Federal prosecutors say Faisal A.H., whose full name was withheld on privacy grounds, was detained Wednesday in the southwestern city of Tuebingen.
Prosecutors said Thursday the man is suspected of joining a militia in 2013 that fought against the Syrian government. Later that year the militia merged with the Islamic State group.
Prosecutors said A.H. was initially considered to be a government collaborator by IS, but after undergoing religious “re-education” and swearing allegiance to the group he was made to spy on people in the town of Tabqa and help clear homes seized by IS.
He allegedly left Syria for Germany at the end of 2014.”

Last December, the Afghan parliament approved Ghani’s decree on the ID card, which unlike its simple predecessors made of paper has a chip that will be tied to the country’s electronic database.
Militants have often used fake ID cards to pass through security checkpoints and enter big urban centers to stage attacks there.
But some in the government of Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah have voiced opposition to the cards because they denote a person’s ethnicity and religion — and as such could be used to discriminate against ethnic Hazaras and other minorities.”

With virtually no public discussion or debate, the Army commandos are helping locate and destroy caches of ballistic missiles and launch sites that Houthi rebels in Yemen are using to attack Riyadh and other Saudi cities.

News Corp leads charge against tech giants in Australia probe
Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation accused Facebook and Google of “anti-competitive practices” in one of dozens of submissions to a probe of the tech giants released Thursday by Australia’s competition watchdog.
A total of 57 media companies, advertisers and journalist groups put forward their cases for changes in the operations of the internet titans, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) reported.
News Corp, the country’s main newspaper group, its main competitor Fairfax Media and commercial broadcasters led the charge in arguing that Facebook and Google’s dominance of digital advertising significantly undermined the news industry.
“A number of digital platforms possess substantial market power and are engaging in anti-competitive practices that prevent publishers such as News Corp Australia from competing on the merits,” the company said in a 144-page submission.

Five years ago, Karl and Inge gave their written permission for doctors at a local clinic to freeze Inge’s eggs fertilized with Karl’s sperm so they could have children later in life.
After divorcing each other, Inge forged Karl’s signature twice to use a fertilized egg to become pregnant and gave birth to a boy.
The 37-year-old Karl had filed a lawsuit after he became legally obliged to provide child support following the birth of his son by his 42-year-old ex-wife.

An open borders group that has benefitted from U.S. taxpayer dollars and is funded by leftwing billionaire George Soros launched a smartphone application to help illegal immigrants avoid federal authorities. The app, Notifica (Notify), is described in a Laredo, Texas news article as a tool to protect immigrants living in the U.S. illegally by utilizing high tech and online social communications. With the click of a button, illegal aliens can alert family, friends and attorneys of encounters with federal authorities. “Immigration agents knocking at the door?” the news story asks. “Now, there’s an app for that, too.”
The group behind the app is called United We Dream, which describes itself as the country’s largest immigrant youth-led community. The nonprofit has more than 400,000 members nationwide and claims to “embrace the common struggle of all people of color and stand up against racism, colonialism, colorism, and xenophobia.” Among its key projects is winning protections and rights for illegal immigrants, defending against deportation, obtaining education for illegal immigrants and acquiring “justice and liberation” for undocumented LGBT “immigrants and allies.” Illegal aliens encounter lots of discrimination, which creates a lot of fear, according to United We Dream. “We empower people to develop their leadership, their organizing skills, and to develop our own campaigns to fight for justice and dignity for immigrants and all people,” United We Dream states on its website, adding that this is achieved through immigrant youth-led campaigns at the local, state, and federal level.
United We Dream started as a project of the National Immigration Law Center (NILC), according to records obtained by Judicial Watch. Between 2008 and 2010, NILC received $206,453 in U.S. government grants, the records show. The project funded was for “immigration-related employment discrimination public education.” Headquartered in Los Angeles, NILC was established in 1979 and is dedicated to “defending and advancing the rights of immigrants with low income.” The organization, which also has offices in Washington D.C. and Berkeley, California claims to have played a leadership role in spearheading Barack Obama’s amnesty program known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), which has shielded hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens from deportation. “Ultimately, NILC’s goals are centered on promoting the full integration of all immigrants into U.S. society,” according to its website.

TIJUANA, Mexico (AP) — Tension between the Mexican government and Central American asylum seekers simmered Wednesday as men, women and children camped in a large plaza for a fourth straight day waiting for U.S. inspectors to process their claims.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection had accepted 28 caravan members for processing at San Diego’s San Ysidro crossing by late Tuesday, leaving about 100 to wait at the Mexican entrance under tarps tied to waist-high metal gates to shield them from sporadic rain.
Another 20 or so caravan members were allowed to cross a long bridge to a waiting area just outside a building with U.S. inspection booths, also protected by tarps.
Mexican federal immigration officials and directors of privately run migrant shelters met with organizers at a large conference room table Tuesday night, gently encouraging caravan members to return to shelters for temporary housing.

BEIJING (Reuters) – North Korean leader Kim Jong Un told a visiting Chinese diplomat on Thursday that he is committed to denuclearisation, China’s foreign ministry said, as diplomatic efforts to bring lasting peace to the Korean peninsula gather pace.

Two teenagers gang raped in India, one commits suicide
NEW DELHI (Reuters) – Two teenagers have been gang raped in separate incidents in India in the past four days, highlighting a rape epidemic that shows no sign of abating despite tougher penalties introduced last month.
Police said they had not made any arrests in either case.
One victim was a 16-year-old girl who committed suicide after being raped by eight men on Sunday in the Nuh district of the northern state of Haryana, senior police official Nazneen Bhasin told Reuters.
On Tuesday, a 19-year-old woman was raped by five men, including the driver of an autorickshaw she hailed in another district of the same state.
The driver duped the woman into believing that she had missed her bus and offered to drop her off at another bus depot, said a police spokesman, Ravindra Kumar, citing the victim’s complaint.

Sahid Shabaninejad said his daughter had told her mother in weekly calls she is allowed from jail that she had been accused of inciting violence through her poetry about Iran’s Arab minority.
“Resist, my homeland, there is not much left of you,” one of her verses said. “Soon you will hear in your sky the sound of smiles and liberation’s call.”
Arabs have long said they face discrimination in Iran, but two human rights groups say that hundreds of people have been arrested around Ahvaz in the last few weeks alone amid protests against water and power cuts, poverty and alienation.

Basque separatist group ETA says its journey has ended
GENEVA (Reuters) – Basque separatist group ETA said on Thursday it had completely dismantled and put an end to all its activity, ending a 60-year existence in which it killed some 850 people.
In a letter read out at the headquarters of a Geneva-based conflict resolution group, ETA, founded to fight for an independent state in northern Spain and southern France, said its journey had ended.
“We have made this, our last decision, in order to foster a new historical phase,” said the letter, signed Euskadi Ta Askatasuna (ETA – Basque Country and Freedom in English).
“ETA was born from the people and now it dissolves back into the people,” said the letter, which was read by David Harland, executive director of the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue.
In a letter dated April 16 and made public on Wednesday on news website El Diario, the group said it had completely dismantled all its structures. El Diario said the letter had been sent to Basque organizations including trade unions.
The group is due to formalize its dissolution at an official event in France on Friday.

Germany: 200 police storm refugee centre in Baden-Wurttemberg
More than 200 police officers with about 70 vehicles stormed the LEA refugee centre in the German city of Ellwangen, Baden-Wurttemberg in the early hours of Thursday morning. They came as backup following a botched effort to detain and then deport one of the migrants living at the centre.
Officers sought to complete their failed mission at the LEA centre. The area was cordoned off and paramedics and emergency physicians were also on site.
On Monday night, police searched the refugee centre and detained a 23-year-old Togolese man who was wanted for deportation. Reports say that at first an estimated 50 refugees showed their solidarity with the man. Witnesses say the number soon grew to around 150-200 as the centre’s residents united against the police, surrounding patrol cars and forcing the officers to eventually release the detainee.

The Vice President of the Aalen Police Bernhard Weber described an incident of refugees forcibly preventing the deportation of a 23-year-old Togolese national as ‘a situation that we have never experienced before’ during a press conference in Ellwangen on Thursday.
“We have clear clues that most black Africans here see the police as their adversaries or will fight against the police. So they are told to come together when police take measures,” Weber stated, adding they would not allowed a ‘lawless zone’ to form.
Some 200 migrants were said to be involved in the incident. Police officers were eventually able to remove several persons from the camp and took the Togolese asylum-seeker into custody on Thursday.
On Monday night, police searched the refugee centre in Baden-Wurttemberg and detained the man in question, who was wanted for deportation.
Reports indicate that at first an estimated 50 refugees showed their solidarity with the asylum-seeker.
Witnesses add the number soon grew to between 150-200 as the centre’s residents united against the police, surrounding patrol cars and forcing the officers to eventually release the detainee.

Germany: ‘Punch in the face’ – Interior Minister on Ellwangen events
German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer commented on the tasks of the new Ministry of Interior, Construction and Homeland during a press briefing in Berlin on Thursday.
In the beginning of the press briefing, Seehofer expressed his outrage with the incident that took place in Ellwangen the previous night as well as his support for the security personal and police in Baden-Wurttemberg and their actions. “What has happened there is a punch in the face to the law-abiding population,” the Interior Minister said.
Commenting on migration, Seehofer stressed that the approach of a limited annual acceptance of migrants is necessary for a successful integration.
He also defended the new anchor centres, where in his opinion asylum requests would be processed in a quicker, constitutional and “more human” way.

Hundreds of police raided a refugee shelter in the German town of Ellwangen on Thursday just days after a mob stopped authorities from deporting a 23-year-old Togolese man.

Mawlana Hazar Imam ( Aga Khan ) arrived in Ottawa on 1 May, marking the first stop of his Diamond Jubilee visit to Canada.
He was received at the airport by Government of Canada representatives the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie; Ambassador Marc-André Blanchard, Canada’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations; as well as Senator Mobina Jaffer and Members of Parliament Arif Virani and Yasmin Ratansi. Mawlana Hazar Imam was also received by President of the Ismaili Council for Canada Malik Talib and AKDN Resident Representative for Canada Dr Mahmoud Eboo, as well as Jamati and AKDN leadership.
This visit takes place at the invitation of the Government of Canada and will include an official dinner held at Rideau Hall, hosted by Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, the Governor General of Canada, as well as meetings at the Global Centre for Pluralism.
“The Diamond Jubilee provides an opportunity for people everywhere, here in Canada and elsewhere, to re-dedicate themselves to the ethics and values that underpin our partnerships with communities around the world to help improve quality of life. It is an opportunity to give back and look forward,” said Dr Eboo.
Remarking on the importance of this visit, Malik Talib added that the visit was “an opportunity to celebrate the deep and lasting relationships Mawlana Hazar Imam has built with Canadian institutions over his 60 years of service and to recognise the contributions of Canadian Ismailis from coast to coast.”
Following his time in Ottawa, Mawlana Hazar Imam will travel to Vancouver and Calgary, where he will meet with the Jamats of British Columbia, Edmonton, and the Prairies.
Mawlana Hazar Imam’s visit to Western Canada is a continuation of his previous visit to Eastern Canada in November 2017. The Jamats across Canada joyously celebrate the arrival of Mawlana Hazar Imam and are preparing with great excitement for the Mulaqats to come.

DAILY MAIL – Iran will not ‘renegotiate or add onto’ nuclear deal
Iran’s foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has criticised President Donald Trump’s threat to withdraw from the nuclear deal, saying Iran will not “renegotiate or add onto” the atomic accord.
He posted a five-minute video on YouTube in response to Trump’s signalling that he will withdraw from the agreement by May 12 if it is not renegotiated and altered. Those changes have included proposals to limit Iran’s ballistic missile program, which Tehran says it has as a defensive deterrent.
In the video, Zarif also appears to troll Trump, saying: ‘To put it in real estate terms, when you buy a house and move your family in it or demolish it to build a skyscraper, you cannot come back two years later and renegotiate the price.’
