U.S. Considering Striking 8 Possible Targets in Syria Following Attack

The U.S. is looking to strike eight potential targets in Syria, following the alleged chemical attack in Douma.
A report by CNBC Thursday, states the targets include two Syrian airfields, a research center, and a chemical weapons facility.
The report also said Syria’s military has relocated some of its planes to Russian controlled airfields in hopes of dodging the strikes.
Meanwhile, U.S. officials say blood and urine samples from victims of the attack have tested positive for traces of chemical gas.

Syria: The plan is out there; you just have to let it in

This won’t be even an attempt at a comprehensive update on the Syria situation. It’s a group of snapshots of current operations that together shed a little light on where we stand.
First of all, it does appear that U.S. forces are moving into the Eastern Mediterranean. The Washington Times reported earlier this week that four Aegis destroyers – in addition to the fifth destroyer, USS Donald Cook (DDG-75), which many readers will already have heard about – are headed for EastMed. The ships are USS Ramage (DDG-61), USS Mahan (DDG-72), USS Gravely (DDG-107), and USS Barry (DDG-52). (TWT describes them as carrying ballistic missiles, but what they mean to say is that the ships are equipped for ballistic missile defense – BMD. The ships are part of our theater BMD force.)
Maybe they’re all going. Two or three of them sounds more likely, but it could be all. The destroyers carry Tomahawk missile loads, and are otherwise optimized for air defense, airspace control, and antisurface and antisubmarine warfare. The Aegis destroyer is the backbone of the Navy. These are the guys you want for sea control in EastMed.
But they can multitask, and we mustn’t miss the likelihood that part of their purpose is to set up for theater ballistic missile defense. This would be precautionary and deterrent, in my assessment; i.e., not because there is an evident and imminent threat building.

I agree with her that it is unlikely that WWIII will start from any bombing/missile attack in Syria in the near future. However since Putin has made threats we have to respond with some kind of response otherwise we will be seen as being afraid of Putin. Having said the above I wish the reporters and editors for the Propaganda Media would study and achieve some level of knowledge about the military. The Russian fleet isn’t fleeing the port in fear, they are under the cover of maneuvers moving to locations where they can defend the Syrian Coast if ordered to and are out of port where they would be setting targets. (Think Pearly Harbor) ships who have maneuver are going to be harder to hit and thus to take out of combat then those setting in port. If they were fleeing in panic they would be in the Black Sea or going through the Suez Canal.
To an extent the coming attack (I think there will be one) will be a semi live fire exercise on both sides, we will be seeing how good our missiles are at penetrating the Russian defenses and they will see how good they are at shooting them down.
Like JR the dispersal of the Syrian air fleet doesn’t bother me, while there was talk about taking out all of their air assets I doubt if that was ever the goal. Neutering them by putting them in hiding and forcing the personal to evacuate the airfields makes it easier for Assad’s enemies to move. It also forces the Russians to pull their air assets back to one location where it is easier to keep track of them.
The Russian move to get the UN talking is probably a sign that they will run their mouths instead of attacking our ships and planes.

Pruitt: EPA will end Obama-era ‘carbon-cost’ method used to inflate ‘benefits’ of regulation

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt will soon end a regulatory practice the Obama administration employed to justify imposing costly air quality rules.
EPA will soon stop relying on “co-benefits” in crafting new regulations, Pruitt told a gathering at the conservative Heritage Foundation on Wednesday, according to two sources with knowledge of Pruitt’s remarks.
President Donald Trump’s administration would soon stop the “social cost of carbon” estimate from being used crafting regulations, Pruitt also said. EPA used the metric to justify the Clean Power Plan, which is now slated for repeal.
Pruitt offered few details, but the SCC would likely be a government-wide decision, not relegated to EPA alone. Trump issued an executive order in 2017 to review the SCC.
Tackling “co-benefits,” however, would be a major shift away from how EPA crafted regulations during the Obama years. “Co-benefits” refer to the monetized health benefits from reducing air pollutants a specific regulation is not targeting.

Texas college bans Jewish group from setting foot on campus

A Texas college has banned a Jewish group from campus after the group posted fliers tying a pro-Palestinian student group to terrorism.
The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) barred the David Horowitz Freedom Center from campus and issued it a criminal trespass warning, reported Campus Reform.
One flier hung by the Horowitz Center demonstrated the ties between Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and the terrorist group Hamas. SJP is funded by American Muslims for Palestine, which was founded by individuals who, as part of yet another group, donated $12.4 million to Hamas, according to The Stanford Review. Hungary: Pro-Govt Weekly Prints List of ‘Soros Mercenaries’
BUDAPEST, Hungary — A Hungarian magazine published Thursday the names of more than 200 people it claimed Prime Minister Viktor Orban had in mind when he alleged U.S.-Hungarian billionaire George Soros paid “mercenaries” to topple the government and open the country to immigrants.
Those listed by the weekly Figyelo included members of rights organizations such as Amnesty International, anti-corruption watchdog Transparency International, refugee advocates, investigative journalists and faculty from the Soros-founded Central European University.
Some of the people named are dead.
Figyelo is a formerly highly respected business magazine which took on an unabashedly pro-government slant after it was acquired in December 2016 by Maria Schmidt, a historian and Orban ally. Since then, the great majority of the ads in the magazine are from the government or state-owned companies.
Orban was re-elected to a fourth term as Hungary’s leader in Sunday’s parliamentary election. He based his campaign on demonizing migrants, blaming Soros and organizations supported by his Open Society Foundations for wanting to allow thousands of immigrants into Hungary.
Last month, Orban said the government knew the names of some 2,000 members of the “Soros mercenary army” paid to “work toward bringing down the government.”
“We know precisely who these people are, we know names … and how and why they are working to transform Hungary into an immigrant country,” Orban said on state radio.
The government’s International Communications Office, when asked Thursday about the magazine’s list and whether the names matched the ones compiled by the government, referred all questions to the publication.
The U.S. Embassy in Budapest, as well as the ambassadors of Canada and Sweden, expressed their support for those on the list.
“Civil society = ordinary citizens working to make their country a better place,” the embassy tweeted. “The United States condemns Figyelo’s attempt to intimidate these citizens.”
In a statement, the magazine characterized reaction to the article as “hysteria,” apologized to families of the deceased named in the story and said its list was “far from complete.”
The publication also vowed to add to the list anyone who asked to be included and to remove those “embarrassed that we included them in the Soros directory.”
Investigative journalist Andras Petho, who was named by Figyelo, said the Direkt36.hu website he writes for is partly supported by Soros’ foundation, most of its funding comes from readers and crowdfunding efforts.
Direkt36 regularly publishes stories on the business dealings of Orban’s family and allies, as well as the business activities and interests of government and opposition politicians.
“We’ve never had any requests or expectations expressed about our reporting or stories by the Soros fund,” Petho said, noting that Direkt36’s donors were listed on its website.
Several other organizations named by Figyelo rejected the article.
“The publication of such a list, in the context of the recent election campaign, is contemptible,” Central European University Rector Michael Ignatieff said. “This is a flagrant attempt at intimidation that is dangerous for academic freedom and therefore for all of Hungarian academic life.”
The Orban government is delaying signing an agreement which would guarantee CEU’s permanence in Budapest, where it has been since 1993.
The Hungarian Helsinki Committee, which provides legal services for asylum-seekers as part of its work, said the list was “a dangerous figment of the imagination, a fabrication whose copyright belongs to the government, not the magazine.”
“Blacklisting has to stop now, until it’s not too late,” the group said.

EURONEWS – Alarm in Hungary over ‘intimidatory’ list of ‘Soros mercenaries’
Human rights activists, anti-corruption campaigners and journalists are among those identified in Hungary as “mercenaries” working for George Soros, accused of wanting to overthrow the government and install thousands of illegal migrants in the country.
The Figyelo Weekly magazine has published a list of around 200 names of people it claims are part of a “mysterious network” linked to the billionaire philanthropist.
They include teachers, lecturers, members of rights groups and NGOs, investigative reporters and officials from the Central European University (CEU) in Budapest, which was founded by Soros. Many of the names appear on the public websites of the organisations concerned.
The publication comes days after the resounding re-election of Viktor Orban’s Fidesz Party last Sunday for a third consecutive term. Last month, the prime minister said he knew the names of 2,000 members of the “Soros mercenary army”.
The CEU has strongly condemned the list as “contemptible”. “This is a flagrant attempt at intimidation that is dangerous for academic freedom and therefore for all of Hungarian academic life,” its President and Rector Michael Ignatieff said in a statement.
Employees of the campaign groups Amnesty International and Transparency International are included on the list. Both organisations have vowed to continue their activities.
Contacted by Euronews, Transparency International’s Executive Director Martin Jozsef Peter said they were taking legal advice. “Although Transparency International and I are personally critical of the government, this is normal in democracy,” he said. “It is not the first such attack, but it is the first when not only organisations and their leaders, but also their associates, are singled out.”
He added that 13 percent of Transparency International’s budget comes from Soros’ Open Society Foundation, which like its main sponsor the European Union, funds specific projects and not the organization in general.
Julian Ivan, Amnesty’s director in Hungary, said in a statement on its website that he felt “sadness and anger”.
“Today’s list is another attempt to intimidate civil organisations and their members and supporters,” he said, adding that they were not afraid. “We will continue our work and represent the values that the Hungarian government has long forgotten.”
The list has raised eyebrows, not least because five people on it are actually dead. Figyelo has apologised to their families. One of them, a law lecturer, was a devoted government supporter according to his son.
The article’s author, Andras Csanady, has no previous publications to his name. He has claimed it was impossible to find the names of some working for Soros’ foundation – yet according to the online daily 24.hu they are publicly available on its website.
Orban and his supporters have attacked Soros and his foundations, accusing them of wanting to allow thousands of immigrants into Hungary. The prime minister’s vociferous opposition to migration was the major issue in his election campaign. Critics say the language used against Soros, who is Jewish, has anti-Semitic undertones.
The CEU says it is determined to stay in Budapest “despite such attempts at intimidation”. Earlier this week, fresh from its election victory, a Fidesz spokesman said a so-called “Stop Soros” law could be passed in May, allowing the government to ban non-governmental organisations that support migration and pose a “national security risk”.
On Thursday the Hungarian government dismissed a report by a European Parliament committee calling for disciplinary proceedings to be instigated against Budapest under Article 7 of the EU Treaty, which could result in sanctions. “The Soros Empire increases the pressure on the Hungarian people,” said Peter Szijjarto, Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
The draft text by Dutch Green MEP Judith Sargentini says Hungary has failed to uphold the EU’s core values, and outlines concern about judicial independence, corruption, freedom of expression and minority rights.
Some in Hungary believe that the best weapon in response to the “mercenary list” is humour. A petition has been launched on behalf of people not on it, and who demand to be included.
One group, the Relief Society – Migrant Association, posted a photo of its activists on Facebook asking “does a mercenary army look like this?”. “We would like to concentrate on our work again,” it added.

Court Ruling: Illegals Can Sue For Discrimination Over Citizenship Requirements
For the second time in a few years, a federal court has ruled that illegal immigrants can sue American employers that refuse to hire them because they require workers to be U.S. citizens or legal residents (green card holders).
The latest blow to the rule of law was delivered by an Obama-appointed federal judge in south Florida, who handed a powerful open-borders group a huge victory in a case accusing a major U.S. company of discriminating against an illegal immigrant.
Though years apart, both lawsuits were filed by the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF), a leftist group that specializes in discrimination lawsuits on behalf of illegal immigrants and has Chicago ties to Obama. MALDEF pushes for free college tuition for illegal immigrants and lowering educational standards to accommodate new migrants.
Its leadership refers to the U.S. government’s immigration enforcement effort as racist and xenophobic and says it’s racist to make English the country’s official national language and inhumane to protect the southern border with a fence. Both MALDEF victories involve plaintiffs who benefit from a special Obama amnesty known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) that shields nearly 800,000 illegal aliens under the age of 31 from deportation.

Syria: Evacuation of militants from Douma continues
Buses evacuating militants of the Jaish al-Islam group and their families were seen leaving the Syrian city of Douma on Friday, via the Muhayam al-Wafideen checkpoint in one of Eastern Ghouta’s humanitarian corridors on Friday.
In the last few weeks, agreements were made between militants and the Syrian government, which allowed the fighters and their families to relocate out of the area into the north of Syria.

A 27-year-old woman from Cannes was arrested this week outside the CanneSeries television festival after she yelled “Allah hu Akbar” and threatened to blow herself up.
The threat of terrorism took place at the Place de Gaulle in Cannes, within the vicinity of the Palais des Festivals where both the internationally renowned Cannes film festival and the TV festival take place, regional newspaper Nice-Matin reports.
More disturbingly, the 27-year-old was accompanied by her two children aged two and four years old while she was making threats to explode. Police were able to quickly arrest the woman who was later taken for a psychiatric evaluation and hospitalised on the advice of a clinical psychiatrist.
The two children were taken into protective custody with social services.

Antifa groups used information from the Southern Poverty Law Center to successfully shut down four conferences on the threat of Islam scheduled in Wisconsin and Minnesota last weekend.
The hotels slated for the events were flooded with threatening calls, and the organizers voluntarily canceled one of the events following numerous warnings that it would not be safe. A fifth conference in Des Moines, Iowa carried on in defiance, despite leftists showing up to disrupt the proceedings.
The conferences were hosted by Worldview Weekend, a conservative Christian organization that produces radio and TV shows and sponsors events nationwide. The SPLC posted the locations for these venues, after which Antifa groups urged their members through social media to attend events and swamp the venues with threatening calls and messages.

Russia reportedly moved 11 of its warships, cargo vessels, and submarines from the Syrian port of Tartus on Wednesday, ahead of President Donald Trump’s warning about carrying out a potential strike on the civil war-ravaged country in retaliation for a chemical attack on civilians on Saturday.
An image provided by ImageSat International (ISI) shows that all but one Russian Navy vessel deployed from the Port of Tartus on Wednesday, and indicated they have been “deployed at sea due to possible near-future strikes.”

Sister Ban Madleen was among those Christians who were forced to flee the largest Christian town in the area when ISIS entered it in 2014. She was among the thousands of Christians who fled the approaching jihadists and found refuge in Iraqi Kurdistan. There, she set up kindergartens to look after the children of other refugees who had also sought sanctuary in the Kurdish areas. A letter, seen by the Catholic Herald, from the UK Visa and Immigration division at the UK Home Office, stated that Sister Ban had not given evidence of her earnings as a kindergarten principal or shown enough evidence that her order of nuns would fund her visit.

BERLIN: Police in the central German city of Fulda said they shot dead a young Afghan refugee who went on a violent rampage in a bakery early Friday (Apr 13).
The 19-year-old allegedly attacked the driver of a delivery truck at the bakery at 0220 GMT , before smashing the shop’s windows, local police and prosecutors said.
As police arrived on the scene, the young man flung stones at the officers.
Police subsequently opened fire, killing the man.
His motives, as well as the circumstances of the attack were as yet unclear, added authorities.
A spokesman for the prosecution service told AFP that there were currently no indication that the attack was due to political reasons.

“An apparent false flag chemical attack in the Syrian town of Douma on April 7 has served as a pretext for the United States to threaten the Middle Eastern country with a missile strike; Russia has been calling for a transparent investigation while local doctors have said no one has requested any medical treatments for poisoning.
The Russian Defense Ministry held a press briefing on what the Western narrative describes as an alleged chemical attack in Syria’s Eastern Ghouta. No evidence has been presented to support the claim. A Russian chemical corps commission that has been sent to Douma reported that no traces of chemical poisoning were found. On April 12, the US defense secretary acknowledged that the Pentagon had no evidence of chlorine or sarin use in Douma.
Speaking at the briefing, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said that the ministry has enough evidence that the planned provocation with the use of chemical weapons was carried out in Syria’s Douma on April 7.
‘Planned Provocation’
He added that the United States and Western countries continue their “indiscriminate and unfounded accusations” against the legitimate Syrian government over the alleged use of chemical weapons against civilians in Eastern Ghouta.
However almost a week on, the United States and some European countries have failed to provide any evidence, according to him.
“The Russian Defense Ministry has plenty of evidence that on April 7, a planned provocation was carried out in Douma with the aim of misleading the world community. The provocation’s real purpose today is clear to everyone — to prod the United States to launch missile strikes against Syria,” Konashenkov stressed.
He said that also, the Russian Defense Ministry has evidence of the UK’s direct involvement in organizing this provocation. According to him, the Russian Defense Ministry found those who took part in filming the mock-up chemical weapons attack in Douma. Those participants briefed the ministry on details of filming the clip.
Konashenkov said that direct participants of the process to film a video clip about the “consequences of a chemical attack” in Syria’s Duma said the video was staged.
“We managed to find direct participants in the shooting of this video and interview them. Today we are presenting a live interview of these people. Duma residents in detail told us how the filming was conducted, in what episodes they took part themselves and what they did,” Konashenkov said.
The Russian military could see that these were the very people from the video. According to Konashenkov, these were two medics working in a local hospital in the emergency department. They said that people in the hospital had no signs of poisoning with toxic agents.
“During the provision of first aid, unknown people ran into the hospital, some of them with video cameras, who started screaming, panicking and pouring everyone with water from hoses, shouting that everyone was poisoned with toxic agents. Patients… and their relatives in panic began to pour water on each other,” the ministry spokesman said.
He said that after the filming, the unknown people disappeared fast.
The UK’s Involvement
“Right now, the Russian Defense Ministry has other evidence indicating Britain’s direct participation in organizing this provocation in Eastern Ghouta,” Konashenkov noted.
He added that between April 3 and April 6, London put pressure on representatives of the so-called White Helmets group in order to facilitate the implementation of the provocation.
Separately, he said that the Russian Reconciliation Center along with Syrian authorities are wrapping up a large-scale humanitarian operation in the Damascus suburb of Eastern Ghouta.
“A total of 170,152 people were evacuated from the area, including 63,117 militants and members of their families,” Konashenkov said.
All the settlements of Eastern Ghouta are currently under control of Syria’s government forces. The Russian military police were deployed to the area to monitor the situation and maintain law, according to him.
“With the situation in this Damascus suburb showing signs of stabilization, civilians return to their homes. To date, their number stands at about 63,000. In other words, more than half of those residents who were earlier evacuated have returned home,” Konashenkov stressed.
The situation in Syria significantly escalated over the last week because of an alleged chemical attack in the city of Duma. Reports about the alleged attack in Duma, located in the Damascus suburb of Eastern Ghouta, emerged last Saturday.
The European Union and the United States have rushed to blame the forces of Syrian President Bashar Assad for the incident, however Damascus has refuted the allegations. Moscow has called for a thorough investigation into the alleged attack before drawing any conclusions…”

Two anti-Trump organizations filed a lawsuit Monday arguing that a government report earlier this year linking immigrants to most of the country’s terrorism cases since 2001 is so misleading that it violates federal law.
The request seeks to recruit federal judges to police the accuracy of the administration, in what — if it’s successful — could become a model for anti-Trump groups to push back on a president they see as having a tenuous connection to the truth.
The January report concluded that 73 percent of the 549 people convicted of international terrorism between 2001 and 2016 were foreign born.
Activists were infuriated by the report at the time, and now two groups — Muslim Advocates and Democracy Forward — have sued, saying the investigation “misleadingly inflates the threat they pose to the United States,” and “inaccurately” focuses on Muslims.

Reports on unproven allegations of a chemical attack in Douma, the Syria city formerly occupied by the Army of Islam insurgent group, invariably rely on a key source: The Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS). Together with the White Helmets, SAMS has been cited by the Washington Post, New York Times, CNN and virtually every Western media organization reporting on the incident. In Douma, SAMS staff have claimed that they treated more than 500 people for symptoms “indicative of exposure to a chemical agent.”
The group also played a central role in shaping the narrative of a sarin attack in Al Qaeda-controlled Khan Sheikhoun in April, 2017, providing biomedical samples to the Organization for the Prevention of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), which violated its stated protocol by accepting evidence without a verifiable chain of custody. That incident prompted the launching of 57 cruise missiles at a Syrian air base by the American military. Almost exactly a year later, a strikingly similar event is said to have tripped the “red line” again, and is likely to trigger a more robust assault by the US and its allies.
SAMS claims to be a “non-political, non-profit medical organization,” and is cited as a credible authority by media reporting on the incident in Douma. Scant published material is available on the organization’s origins as an exile arm of the Islamist-oriented Syrian opposition, its involvement in sophisticated influence operations from the Turkish-Syrian border, or its close relationship to neoconservative elements in Washington and Al Qaeda’s affiliate in Syria.
SAMS is not merely a group of Syrian doctors tending to the wounded in war torn areas, nor can it be considered a objective source on chemical attacks and other atrocities. The organization is a USAID-funded lobbying powerhouse that functions with a single-minded determination to stimulate a US-led war of regime change that will place Syrian Islamists in power in Damascus.
SAMS was founded in 1998 by members of the Syrian American exile community, which is concentrated in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. Prior to the 2011 armed rebellion against President Bashar al-Assad, the group led several medical delegations to Syria, presumably cooperating with the government to gain access. A former member of SAMS approached me to complain that the armed revolt prompted a takeover of the organization’s board of directors by sympathizers of the Muslim Brotherhood. She said she and other secular and Christian members resigned from the group as it transformed into what she described as “Al Qaeda’s MASH unit.”…”

Police were called when the suspected dog killer was reportedly seen by teenagers butchering the animals.

“I was given the animal as payment for a job.”

He later returned to the scene and was met by angry animal activists.

“Thousands of children could be being lured through social media sites such as Instagram into selling drugs in seaside towns, the police have warned as they secured their first modern slavery conviction against those responsible.
A complex web of more than 900 “county lines” have been discovered across the UK, where organised crime groups based in urban areas use violence and intimidation to force young and vulnerable people to sell drugs remotely in rural or seaside areas.
