I am expecting a Chinese collapse but don’t expect the Communist Party to give up control of the nation. The Soviet Union collapsed because the leaders were either unwilling to order the military to fire on their own people or were unsure that the orders would be obeyed. Probably the latter.
Yes China is willing to killits own citizens to solve various problems and they should keep it in the family, doing that would destroy all of the good will they have build up among the various socialist government in Europe. Thus they seem to be pushing towards a major confrontation with the US and possibly India. I don’t doubt that the CCP would be happy if about 1/2 of its population died, the older half. Given the way they have to import food any type of a major conflict would really cut food imports and many would die from malnutrition. You would also have the combat losses which would be heavy and their population problem would be kicked down the road for a few years possibly a few decades.
This would also put a new reason for the long railroad on the table, they would know that their sea trade would be limited by US and allied Naval forces but the train would be fairly safe from our actions so while it would increase the cost of goods they could still be imported.

I don’t like thinking about the number of deaths that is going to occur when China falls apart, Then when trying to rebuild some semblance of a working nation they are going to require massive investment to clean up the pollution. They are going to be in such desperate need for help they may decide to offer temporary control over various provinces in exchange for nations or major corporations cleaning up the mess.

Many years ago, all of the major component and equipment manufacturers went through re-design cycles specifically intended to minimize gold content (due to cost).
Only Hi-Rel (High Reliability) and Mil-Spec (Military Specification) parts, especially those for aerospace applications, have much gold content. It’s a safe bet that those Mil-Spec parts cannot be scrapped in Communist China.

I know that many will disagree with me but I just cannot see Assad using such weapons as he has so much to lose. The attack on ISIS that killed women and children IMO was NOT Assad as if he was going to use them why would he target civilians and upset the MSM and force a response from Trump? ISIS does NOT care about killing women and children that is clear but Syria tries hard to not target them and the propaganda gain from this was enormous. I left several sites because of this view.

Missing text messages inflame Republican anger at the FBI
Federal investigators are demanding answers from the FBI over missing text messages between agents accused of anti-Trump bias, leaving the nation’s premier law enforcement agency scrambling to defend its reputation amid an explosion of criticism from the White House, Congress and conservative media.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) has opened an investigation into how the FBI “failed to preserve” text messages sent between Peter Strzok, the FBI’s top counterintelligence officer, and Lisa Page, a senior FBI lawyer.

Erdogan says to extend Syria operation despite risk of U.S. confrontation
ANKARA/BEIRUT (Reuters) – President Tayyip Erdogan warned on Wednesday that Turkey would extend its military operation in Syria to the town of Manbij, a move that could potentially bring Turkish forces into confrontation with those of their NATO ally the United States.
Turkey’s air and ground operation, now in its fifth day, targets U.S.-backed Kurdish YPG fighters in the Afrin region and has opened a new front in Syria’s multi-sided civil war. A push toward Manbij some 100 km (60 miles) east of Afrin could threaten U.S. plans to stabilize a swath of northeast Syria.
Turkish forces and their rebel allies launched Operation Olive Branch in Afrin because Ankara sees the YPG as an extension of a militant Kurdish group that has waged a three-decade insurgency in Turkey’s largely Kurdish southeast.
“With the Olive Branch operation, we have once again thwarted the game of those sneaky forces whose interests in the region are different,” Erdogan said in a speech to provincial leaders in Ankara.

According to a major report released Tuesday, the Obama administration funded Afghan Army units that it knew were committing human rights abuses.
The report, issued by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) after urging from 93 members of Congress, notes among other things that the Pentagon continued to provide funding for Afghan security forces, even though there were credible allegations of serious human rights allegations.
Both secretaries of Defense under the Obama administration, Ash Carter and Chuck Hagel, authorized U.S. Forces in Afghanistan to request expanded exemptions for human rights violators by exercising the “notwithstanding” clause. This clause in the DOD Appropriations Act has been exploited to skirt the Leahy Law, which prohibits funding to foreign forces when there is credible evidence of human rights violations.
“This type of abuse, appallingly, is a common practice,” Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy said, according to NBC News. “In fact, it is a virtual certainty that it is grossly underreported. The report also revealed that DOD circumvented the Leahy Law by using ‘notwithstanding’ authority without notifying Congress, even providing aid to Afghan units implicated in child abuse. That is inexcusable.”
The Pentagon approved “notwithstanding” clause to keep passing funds to 12 Afghan units responsible for 14 human rights violations in 2013.

Canadian Islamic radicals returning from fighting for jihadist groups in the Middle East have become a source of concern for CSIS, which says: “Extremists returning to Canada have the potential to pose a significant threat to our national security.”
One of the documents quotes a CSIS officer who said: “I should point out that we remain concerned about the number of individuals that we are not aware of, or about whom we have incomplete information, due to the significant operational challenges associated with such investigations.”
The comments are in sharp contrast to the Liberal government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau which has largely downplayed the terror threat from returning radicals.
Trudeau provoked widespread criticism last month after he commented that returning fighters “can be an extraordinarily powerful voice for preventing radicalisation in future generations”.
While the Liberal government has focused on deradicalisation, announcing plans to use “poetry and podcasts” to do so, CSIS warns that “Returnees may respond in a number of different ways – from returning to regular life, radicalizing others, or financing and facilitating the travel of others, to attack planning.”
The Trudeau government has not released current figures on how many Islamic radicals have returned to Canada with Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale claiming in November that 60 or so had come back to Canada, though the figure was pointed out to be two years old.
One man, who had previously been a member of the Islamic State terror group and served in their religious police force, was interviewed by Canadian broadcaster Global News in September. He brushed off his involvement with the terror group saying: “We all do things that we regret … All that’s behind me.”

Some Alabama judges oppose gay marriage — so the state may eliminate marriage licenses
After several years of disagreement, and sometimes rebellion, against the law allowing same-sex marriages, the Alabama Legislature is considering a bill that would eliminate marriage licenses and the requirement for a marriage ceremony.
Why would they do that?
The current state law says probate judges may issue marriage licenses — but it doesn’t say they have to.
So, some judges who disagreed with the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling that legalized same-sex marriage in 2015 stopped issuing the licenses because they didn’t want to have to issue them to gay couples.
The solution, according to Republican state Sen. Greg Albritton, is to eliminate the licenses altogether.

It should probably not come as a shock that statistics can be, and often are, presented and manipulated by elites. In Belgium — and in all of Western Europe except Austria — they form an informal multiculturalist lobby, which dominates universities, NGOs, public institutions and the media, in order to promote a pro-migration agenda.
In a relatively short time, Belgium has changed dramatically. Without any public debate, it has become a massive migration state. In just 15 years, Belgium has seen an increase of one million in its population — from 10.2 million in 2000 to 11.3 million in 2015. These numbers represent a 10% rise over a very short period.
From 2000 to 2010, net immigration was nine times greater than in the Netherlands; four times greater than in France or Germany and even greater than in the United States, a country historically open to immigration.
Yet, this statistical reality has been hidden from the Belgian population. The elites and the media decide what people can talk about and what should be hidden. To force people to accept immigration as a given, data has to be hidden to avoid worrying the citizenry.
This is no grand conspiracy, no “Big Brother” masterpiece, but — at best — an honest enthusiasm for the multiculturalist ideology, or — at worst — the strong defensive mechanisms of Freudian psychology such as sublimation, denial or repression.

Feminists claim to be champions of women rights around the world. They argue that “universality” is a key component of their cause.
Perhaps it is worthwhile, though, to examine their nice slogans against reality.
Women took to the street recently in the front lines of protests in the Islamic Republic of Iran. The demands of the women were clear: Remove Sharia law, eliminate the obligatory hijab, improve the rights of women, and not to treat women as slaves and second-class citizens. Simple.
Many women demonstrated their resistance by bravely removing their hijab, thereby violating the Islamist law of the land. One photograph that has become a symbol of the protests on social media, is of an Iranian woman raising her fist in the air while she goes walks through tear gas. A video and pictures that also have become a symbol of the protests, show an unidentified woman removing her hijab, placing it on a stick and waving it. She was reportedly arrested shortly after her act of defiance.

Arrest the mother for willful child endangerment and place the girl in a foster home. Not reporting a sexual assault against one’s own self is one thing. From the first, these columns have argued that the whitewash of the Hillary Clinton–emails caper was President Barack Obama’s call — not the FBI’s, and not the Justice Department’s. (See, e.g., here, here, and here.) The decision was inevitable. Obama, using a pseudonymous email account, had repeatedly communicated with Secretary Clinton over her private, non-secure email account.
These emails must have involved some classified information, given the nature of consultations between presidents and secretaries of state, the broad outlines of Obama’s own executive order defining classified intelligence (see EO 13526, section 1.4), and the fact that the Obama administration adamantly refused to disclose the Clinton–Obama emails. If classified information was mishandled, it was necessarily mishandled on both ends of these email exchanges.
If Clinton had been charged, Obama’s culpable involvement would have been patent. In any prosecution of Clinton, the Clinton–Obama emails would have been in the spotlight. For the prosecution, they would be more proof of willful (or, if you prefer, grossly negligent) mishandling of intelligence. More significantly, for Clinton’s defense, they would show that Obama was complicit in Clinton’s conduct yet faced no criminal charges.

I’ll say it again, had any of us ordinary folk (instead of these über-elites) committed the same crimes, we would be held without bail and still awaiting trial. During Bill’s time as President he had the FBI files of all of the Democrat politicians brought to the White House and then had a political staffer enter them into a privately owned computer. Switzerland: Merkel warns against populism and polarisation in Davos address
German Chancellor Angela Merkel warned against populism and polarisation during a special address to the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos on Wednesday.
The German leader stated that a “polarised atmosphere” was still dominant in many countries and admitted this was the case in Germany as well; “Polarisation is something that we see in our country as well, which we haven’t seen in decades”. Merkel cited the Eurozone crisis and globalisation as reasons for this.
Merkel went on to emphasise the importance of a strong Europe in the face of global conflicts which are, as she put it, “taking place on our doorstep”. In particular, she referred to the civil war in Syria and the battle against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS, ISIL) in Iraq as reasons for the necessity of a cooperative Europe.
Finally, the German leader reiterated that successful economic development in Africa was important, saying that “we as Europeans have a deep, deep debt owed to the African continent dating back to the period of colonialism”.
Merkel’s address to the WEF comes amid a period of political uncertainty in Germany, as her leading Christian Democratic Union (CDU) is currently in the process of attempting to form a coalition with the Social Democratic Party (SPD).

Military vehicles and ambulances were seen crossing the Turkish-Syrian border located in Oncupinar, in both directions, during ongoing operations against Kurdish forces in Syria on Wednesday.
The operation, named ‘Olive Branch’, began on Saturday and aims to oust Kurdish groups from the northern Syrian region of Afrin, which lies on the border between the two countries.

Guards were seeking to prevent Jawad Bendaoud, an inmate at Fresnes prison, from appearing in court on terrorism charges. Bendaoud is accused of aiding and abetting the 2015 Paris attackers responsible for the deaths of 130 people.
Trade Unions led by Force Ouvriere (FO) and Ufap-Unsa hope that the latest action will force the government into meeting the protesters wage demands and lead to improvements in safety.
According to local media, there have been stoppages at 98 of the 188 prisons across France.

James Comey to Teach ‘Ethical Leadership’ Course at Alma Mater; Press Notes No Irony
On Friday, the College of William & Mary announced that former FBI Director James Comey, a 1982 graduate, will “will teach a three-credit course on ethical leadership” beginning this fall. Establishment press coverage of Comey’s assignment, coinciding with being named “an executive professor in education,” has mostly avoided the myriad reasons why having him teach such a course is a horrible lapse in judgment by W&M.

If you listen real close you can hear them on the streets of DC and other major cities, they aren’t real loud yet but they are increasing in noise. In both countries Madame le Farge (sp?) is transcribing her knitting to computer files to make it possible to be in more then one court at a time.
