  1. New York Times: Believe Women… Unless They’re Accusing Democrats

There have been a number of media pieces touching on Bill Clinton’s history of sexual assault. Some, like Catlin Flanagan’s Atlantic piece have been good. And then there’s Michelle Goldberg’s New York Times piece.

And that’s almost as terrible as the Gloria Steineim defense of Bill Clinton in the New York Times, the one that Flanagan and I both cited.

Why are conservatives passing around the Goldberg piece? Because they haven’t read past the title, “I Believe Juanita”. Or the first two paragraphs.

Goldberg is a former Nation hack and passionate Hillary Clinton supporter. The piece is pure bait and switch. And it’s quite revealing about how the left really thinks.

Michelle Goldberg cynically revisits the old Clinton cartel attacks on Bill’s accusers. It’s the same stuff as Steinem’s smears. Even Sidney Blumenthal gets a name check. Goldberg even invokes the vast right-wing conspiracy.

The larger theme is that “believing women” is dangerous because lefties rape too. Or, as the convenient Clinton rationalization has always been, the vast right wing conspiracy will launch false accusations.

It was the cackle that cost her an election.

The time was the 80s and the First Lady of Arkansas was chatting with Roy Reed. Reed was a New York Times bigwig, a civil rights hero and is currently a speaker for the Clinton School of Public Service.

Back then, Reed was working on a profile of the Clintons for Esquire. The profile was never published. The tapes of the interviews were stowed at the University of Arkansas until they were dug up in ’14.

And there’s Hillary Clinton laughing on tape about how she saved a 12-year-old girl’s rapist.

Kathy Shelton had been raped and beaten into a coma when she was twelve years old. Her rapist wanted a “woman lawyer.” Hillary Clinton took his case as a favor and used every dirty trick to get him off. Even though she admits on the tape that she knew her client was guilty, she accused his victim of being “emotionally unstable” and fantasizing about older men. And she used the little girl’s bloody underwear as the pivot of a blatant lie that got her client off with less than a year in prison.

All of that is bad enough.

  3. The Decline of Objectivity and Honesty in the Anti-Trump Media
    November 14, 2017
    Daniel Greenfield

In an extended essay/rant at the New Yorker, Frank Rich touts the “naive” faith of the media in badgering their political opponents to death.

The magnitude of cultural vandalism Trump has perpetrated in so short a time is impressive. Even without carrying out (so far) such draconian threats as revoking network-television licenses, he has fully discredited the legitimate news media in the eyes of his base and no doubt other credulous Americans as well. The earnest liberal conviction that Trump voters would see the light if only they were exposed to a relentless stream of fearless journalistic investigations accompanied by fiery op-eds and MSNBC sermons was a pipe dream. The press’s herculean efforts both to expose and to denounce Trump-administration corruption are uniformly dismissed by his followers as “fake news” (assuming such efforts penetrate their bubble in the first place).

    Uh-huh.

What makes the news media legitimate? Trust. What’s trust based on? Honesty. What’s honesty based on? Objectivity.
