MOSCOW (Sputnik) — US President Donald Trump on Wednesday spoke in favor of capital punishment for the Uzbek man who drove a truck down a bike path in New York City.

Sayfullo Saipov, 29 was charged first with providing material support and resources to Daesh, and second with the destruction he caused resulting in the death of eight people.

Earlier, acting US Attorney Joon Kim explained that for the first charge Saipov is likely to receive a life sentence, while for the second he might face capital punishment if convicted.

The US president was outraged after the attacker asked to hang a Daesh flag in his hospital room. “The Iraqi Kurdish military has said that Baghdad’s statement reflects the “ongoing military aggression and unconstitutional demands”.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Iraqi Kurdish military flatly rejected accusations by Baghdad that it was stalling for time to build defenses against Iraqi forces opposed to the region’s independence.

Iraq’s Joint Operations Command issued a statement earlier, claiming Kurdish Peshmerga forces were using the ongoing talks to buy time to pull more weapons to the frontline.

“The KRG Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs condemns in the strongest terms this baseless statement… Iraq’s statement instead reflects the ongoing military aggression and unconstitutional demands, threatening the people of the Kurdistan Region,” the Peshmerga ministry said in its statement.

The Peshmerga said it was “in defensive positions” and accused the central government of threatening it with war and using heavy weapons, including US-made ones, in violation of the constitution which, it said, rules out the use of armed forces in settling internal disputes.

The conflict between the Iraqi army and Kurdish forces has erupted after the Kurdistan Regional Government conducted an independence vote. Baghdad has opposed the referendum and launched an offensive to recapture the Kurdish-held disputed areas of the country.”

“Turkey’s military says eight Turkish security force members and five Kurdish militants were killed in a clash near Turkey’s border with northern Iraq.

A military statement said the skirmish erupted early on Thursday near the town of Semdinli, after the security forces spotted a group of rebels who were allegedly preparing to launch an attack.

The military said the dead included two government-paid village guard aiding troops in the fight against the rebels. Two soldiers were also hurt in the clashes.

    The clashes were continuing.

The rebels of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, have waged a three-decade long insurgency in southeast Turkey. The conflict has killed tens of thousands of people.

Violence flared again in 2015 after the collapse of a two-year peace process.”

  8. Acquaintances say bike path suspect was argumentative, angry

NEW YORK (AP) — Some saw him as disagreeable and argumentative, others as quiet and prayerful. He was said to be hardworking but also seemed to simmer with disillusionment over financial and career setbacks.

As Sayfullo Saipov lay in a hospital bed Wednesday, police tried to piece together the life of the 29-year-old immigrant accused of driving a truck onto a New York bike path and killing eight people. A fuller portrait began to emerge of the suspect who was described by the president as an animal and by the mayor as a coward.

Saipov legally emigrated from Uzbekistan, a former Soviet republic and predominantly Sunni Muslim nation north of Afghanistan that is estimated to have produced hundreds if not thousands of supporters for the Islamic State group and other extremist organizations in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Notes found at the crime scene indicate Saipov acted in the name of IS,

    • What we are finding right now is a clash between what the US law says about actions committed by legal residents and what the Geneva Convention says about enemy combatants. This morning on FOX Newt made a suggestion, Congress should pass a law that says that self proclaimed enemy combatants don’t have Miranda rights. This would solve the problem, it would have to be fought through the legal system but I don’t doubt that in the end it would be upheld by the Supreme Court. In fact there are several things that the law could remove from self proclaimed enemy combatants, including the right to a speedy trial. And the prosecution having to provide the defense with all of the evidence they have. This is one of the reasons that few trials have come out of Gitmo, we don’t want to tell the enemy what our intel sources are and how deeply they have been penetrated.

  9. Probers believe terror suspect made dry runs before NYC attack

The terror suspect accused of plowing a rental truck into cyclists and pedestrians in lower Manhattan drove into the city at least twice in a single day less than a week before the attack — and cops are investigating whether he was making a dry run, law enforcement sources told The Post.

Sayfullo Saipov, 29, used his E-ZPass to drive through the Holland Tunnel twice and his car was seen on the George Washington Bridge once on Oct. 28, according to the sources.

Three days later, Saipov drove into the city on the George Washington Bridge, then plowed into nearly two dozen people in a bike lane on the West Side Highway.

  10. Uzbek attacker’s family was ‘very mysterious,’ neighbor says

Even in a neighborhood packed with immigrants, all with their own customs, languages, foods and idiosyncrasies, there was something about Sayfullo Saipov and his family that seemed not quite right.

With the benefit of hindsight, neighbors now believe that the 29-year-old Uzbek immigrant was plotting an attack long before he plowed his rented truck down a bike path in Lower Manhattan, killing eight people.

Three weeks before Tuesday’s attack, a neighbor had noticed that Saipov frequently rented trucks like the one used in the attack.

“This is the kind of truck you use for construction, but he wasn’t doing construction,’’ said Carlos Batista, 23, who noticed that one of the trucks was parked outside a vacant building nearby for nearly a week. “Why would you spend the money to rent this kind of truck and just leave it outside if you’re not using it? … Now I think he was practicing.”

  12. Belgian mayor bans far-right rally in flashpoint quarter (abcnews, Nov 2, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/belgian-mayor-bans-rally-flashpoint-quarter-50881352

“A Belgian mayor on Thursday banned Dutch far-right leader Geert Wilders and Belgian anti-immigrant politician Filip Dewinter from holding a rally in Molenbeek, a Muslim-majority Brussels neighborhood that has been linked to extremism.

Mayor Francoise Schepmans said the two men had described their planned visit on Friday to Molenbeek as an “Islam Safari” in the “Jihadi capital of Europe.”

She said the rally, planned for just after Friday’s Muslim prayers, cannot take place “to avoid any predictable threat to order and public peace.”

Some of the extremists linked to the Paris massacres in November 2015 and the suicide bomb attacks on the Brussels airport and metro in March 2016 lived in or transited through Molenbeek. Belgian police and the army have remained on high alert for almost two years.

Sam Van Rooy, a spokesman for Dewinter from the Belgian Flemish-nationalist Vlaams Belang party, said Wilders and Dewinter still aim to head to Molenbeek on Friday.

“The fact that two elected politicians cannot enter an area for security reasons, that they are afraid of violence; that is Islamization,” Van Rooy said.

He added: “We do not plan to use violence, of course.””

“Clashes between Turkish security force members and Kurdish militants in two mainly Kurdish provinces in southeastern Turkey on Thursday killed eight security force members and 22 militants, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.

A skirmish erupted near the town of Semdinli, in the province of Hakkari that borders Iraq, after the security forces spotted a group of rebels who were allegedly preparing to launch an attack, the military said. Six soldiers and two government-paid village guards aiding troops in the fight against the rebels were killed in the fighting.

Erdogan announced in a speech in Ankara that 17 rebels were also killed in the clash, which he said was continuing.

Separately, five rebels were killed in a clash in the province of Tunceli, the president said.

The rebels of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, have waged a three-decade-long insurgency in southeastern Turkey. The conflict has killed tens of thousands of people. The group is considered a terror organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union.

Violence flared again in 2015 after the collapse of a two-year peace process.

In his speech, Erdogan vowed to press ahead with operations against the PKK.

“We will continue our struggle against them, until these terrorists are annihilated and are gone,” Erdogan said.

The military said several rocket launchers, ammunition, hand grenades and an automatic rifle used by the rebels were seized during the operation near Semdinli.”

  14. ISIS Group Behind World Cup Threats Vows ‘More Bitter and Greater’ Manhattan Attacks

The pro-ISIS media group behind a recent string of threats against the 2018 World Cup lauded the Manhattan truck attack and warned of more bloodshed to come in posters distributed to online supporters today.

The propaganda wave comes as official ISIS channels, including the affiliated Amaq news agency, have not yet taken credit for the attack — even as terror suspect Sayfullo Saipov reportedly asked for an ISIS flag to be hung above his hospital bed.

One of the posters from the Wafa’ Media Foundation, labeled “Manhattan” with a backdrop of burning, crumbling skyscrapers and a semi-truck — significantly more truck than the flatbed pickup Saipov rented from Home Depot — shows a masked, armed jihadist standing before the scene. Whereas this jihadist wields a rifle, Saipov brandished a paintball gun and a pellet gun — and had a stun gun in his truck — before he was shot in the abdomen by a real bullet from an NYPD officer.

Sayfullo Saipov, 29, wore a gray shirt and was surrounded by five guards while in his wheelchair inside a New York federal courthouse after he was charged with providing material support to a terrorist group and committing violence and destruction of motor vehicles.

His lawyers said Wednesday they were not seeking bail and a judge ordered him to be held in federal jail.

  17. Targeted again? 9/11 neighborhood shaken by attack

NEW YORK (AP) — On his way to work each morning, Antonio Collac stops to light a candle at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, a stone-columned sanctuary two blocks from lower Manhattan’s ground zero.

There, beneath a vaulted roof that was pierced by the landing gear from one of the jets that felled the World Trade Center, and before the altar where firefighters laid the broken body of Mychal Judge — the chaplain often counted as Sept. 11’s first victim — the tragedy of that morning 16 autumns ago is anything but abstract. Collac, a designer who has worked in the neighborhood for many years, says he, too, is a vessel for memories of that day.

But on Wednesday morning, Collac came to offer a new prayer — this one for the eight people killed and 12 seriously injured when terror again targeted lower Manhattan the day before, again just a few blocks away. The attack served as a reminder, he said, for a neighborhood that has been transformed by construction and washed over by a tide of tourism in the years since 9/11. For all the area’s success in pushing to remake itself, people here acknowledge that the memories of its past still help shape their state of mind.

  18. Officials Detail Increased Security Measures For NYC Marathon In Wake Of Lower Manhattan Terror Attack
    November 1, 2017 11:13 PM

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — The TCS New York City Marathon is happening this coming Sunday, and will draw people from all over the world.

Safety is always a priority for the marathon, but the terror attack in Lower Manhattan on Tuesday brings it to another level. So the NYPD is adding a lot of security along the route to protect runners and spectators.

Police spoke about plans for the marathon security a day after eight people were killed and a dozen others injured in the deadliest terror attack in the city since Sept. 11, 2001, amid questions about what is being done to protect New Yorkers and stop similar attacks from happening in the future.

  19. Analysis: CIA releases massive trove of Osama bin Laden’s files

The CIA is releasing hundreds of thousands of documents, images, and computer files recovered during the May 2011 raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. The newly-available material provides invaluable insights into the terrorist organization that struck America on September 11, 2001.

FDD’s Long War Journal has advocated for the release of bin Laden’s secret cache since 2011, arguing that such transparency would help to better inform the American people, experts and policymakers. Today’s release goes a long way toward satisfying that goal. We applaud the CIA and Director Mike Pompeo for making this material available to the public.

While the world has changed dramatically since the al Qaeda founder’s death more than six years ago, many of the files are still relevant today. Indeed, the CIA has withheld an unspecified number of documents for reasons related to protecting national security. We don’t doubt that some documents are still sensitive, but we hope that everything can be eventually released.

The CIA provided FDD’s Long War Journal with an advance copy of many of the files. It will take years for experts and researchers to comb through this treasure trove of information. However, we offer some preliminary observations below.

      http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/cia-release-bin-laden-files-renews-interest-iran-50880600

“The CIA’s release of documents seized during the 2011 raid that killed al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden appears to bolster U.S. claims that Iran supported the extremist network leading up to the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

U.S. intelligence officials and prosecutors have long said Iran formed loose ties to the terror organization starting in 1991, something noted in a 19-page al-Qaida report in Arabic that was included in the release of some 47,000 other documents by the CIA.

For its part, Iran has long denied any involvement with al-Qaida, and its foreign minister disparaged the documents in a tweet late Thursday: “A record low for the reach of petrodollars: CIA & FDD fake news w/ selective AlQaeda docs re: Iran can’t whitewash role of US allies in 9/11.”

The report included in the CIA document dump shows how bin Laden, a Sunni extremist from Iran’s archrival Saudi Arabia, could look across the Muslim world’s religious divide to partner with the Mideast’s Shiite power to target his ultimate enemy, the United States.

“Anyone who wants to strike America, Iran is ready to support him and help him with their frank and clear rhetoric,” the report reads.

The Associated Press examined a copy of the report released by the Long War Journal, a publication backed by the Washington-based Foundation for Defense of Democracies, a think tank fiercely critical of Iran and skeptical of its nuclear deal with world powers. The CIA gave the Long War Journal early access to the material…”

  22. Even worse than the Black Death – Madagascar PLAGUE more deadly than 14th century killer
THE PLAGUE currently killing and infecting hundreds of people in Madagascar and East Africa is even more deadly than the Black Death which left 200 MILLION dead across the world.

A state of emergency has gripped Madagascar with schools and public meeting spaces closed, panic buying and hoarding of antibiotics, and 15,000 teachers being re-trained to spot and isolate those with signs of plague.

But the plague, which has so far killed 123 and left hundreds infected, is a super-strain which is even more infectious and deadly than famous the Bubonic Plague of the 14th century.

The Madagascar Plague is actually THREE plagues.

The first is bubonic – the type which ravaged Europe and the Mediterranean in the thirteen hundreds, leaving up to 60 percent dead.

Antibiotics still work if they’re started right away. Containing regions in which the inhabitants indulge in filthy practices should be a no-brainer.

Between 1 August and 27 October, 113 people had died and 1,554 cases reported – out of which 985 were pneumonic plague, 230 bubonic plague and 339 unknown.

They say the pneumonic variant is “always fatal”.
985 minus 113 deaths = not always fatal.

Of course it is always possible the reporters screwed up the report either accidentally or deliberately to make the article more sensational.

  23. China is using fentanyl in a chemical war against America

Fentanyl is the synthetic opioid driving America’s public health crisis. Its cheap price, widespread use, addictive quality and deadly effect make it more dangerous than other narcotics classified by the DEA.

It is, ultimately, a chemical. And it’s being used as a weapon in China’s 21st Century Opium War against America.

President Donald Trump’s twelve-day, five-nation Asia tour will focus on North Korean nukes and international trade. In Beijing, however, he plans to address China’s fentanyl production and distribution, an industry that fuels what the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission calls “China’s deadly export to the United States.” Trump holds undeniable moral authority when it comes to substance abuse, having personally seen and felt the effects on his family. Forcing China’s hand on fentanyl is the right thing to do.

MADRID (Reuters) – Spanish courts are likely to issue a European arrest warrant for former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont, now in Belgium, after he failed to appear at a hearing on Thursday, Spain’s top judge said.

Other leaders of the independence drive, that has brought hundreds of thousands onto the streets of Barcelona both for and against a break with Madrid, faced a Spanish court and prosecution demands they be held in custody.

Puigdemont’s lawyer in Belgium, where he has traveled with four members of his sacked cabinet, said the climate in Spain was “not good” and his client wanted to maintain some distance; but he would cooperate with the courts.

Along with the indictment of Paul Manafort and his associate Rick Gates, on Monday we learned that a low-level Trump campaign adviser, George Papadopoulos, pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI.

Apparently, Mr. Papadopoulos lied to the FBI about the timing and contacts he had with Russians, and the fact that they offered to give him thousands of emails about/from Hillary Clinton.

But as one reads through the indictment, the realization builds that Team Trump kept rejecting young George’s offers to set them up with their Russian friends.

Here’s the fun part: back in August, the Washington Post reported on what George Papadopoulos tried to do, and in a rare moment for the Washington Post, the story seemed to be favorable to the Trump Team. At the very least, it showed that the Trump campaign had no interest in Papadopoulos’ Russian contacts.

  28. VICE NEWS – The Black Bloc: Inside America’s Hard Left

The left-leaning anti-fascist movement—or Antifa—has been around for decades, popping up in North America and Europe in response to rising white nationalist or fascist sentiments. Now, Antifa has made a resurgence in the US, where members clad in masks and nondescript black clothing physically confront groups of white supremacists and neo-Nazis who’ve started organizing in cities around the country.

Since the 2016 presidential election, Antifa has become a staple at alt-right and Trump-related rallies that often result in violence. VICE met up with a few Antifa activists in Philadelphia who engage in “Black Bloc” actions to find out more about their ideology, tactics, and individual reasons for participating in a high-risk form of activism.

    • What they don’t want to be spread:

      1: Free Speech

      2: individual rights

      3. Rule of Law

      4. Any thought not approved of by the Central Committee.

    • The scary thought is they really believe their bull.

Note how the leaders stay home away from the danger so they can recruit more cannon fodder, the kids out committing the crimes are expendable but the leaders of the units don’t think they are expendable.

These fools don’t understand that the American People wand freedom and not the slave chains of Marxism, they don’t realize that their tactics are fascist tactics, they are the new fascists.

If they manage to pull off their Day of Chaos on November 4 these people are going to be out hurting people and destroying private and public property, they will justify this by saying they are fighting fascism. They are the new Fascists who are out to enslave the human race.

  29. Syria: Russian strategic bombers strike IS strongholds in Deir ez-Zor

Six Tu-22M3 strategic bombers of the Russian Aerospace Forces conducted strikes from an undisclosed airfield against so-called Islamic State infrastructure in the city of Abu Kemal, in Deir Ezzor province, on Thursday.

The airstrike was aimed at militant strongholds, command points, and warehouses with ammunition and weapons.

The attack is the second of its kind in the past two days. On Wednesday, the Russian Ministry of Defence confirmed that six long-range Tu-22M3 bombers launched an air strike on Abu-Kemal.

    • Syrian army recaptures Deir Ezzor from ISIS

Syrian monitor says Syrian army captures city of Deir Ezzor from ISIS in a Russian-backed operation.

Syria’s army and allied fighters have captured the city of Deir Ezzor from the Islamic State (ISIS) group in a Russian-backed operation, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Thursday, according to AFP.

There was no immediate confirmation from official sources, though state media earlier reported army advances in the city in the country’s east.

“Regime forces and allied fighters… with Russian air support have full control of Deir Ezzor city,” the Britain-based Observatory said.

“Fighting has ended, now there are sweeping operations under way,” Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman was quoted as having said.

Earlier, the Observatory and Syrian state media reported Syrian government troops had captured three new neighborhoods from the jihadists.

A military source said, however, the government only held around 80 percent of the city.

Syria’s army broke into Deir Ezzor in September, ending an ISIS siege of nearly three years on government-held parts of the city.

ISIS once held most of Deir Ezzor province, an oil-rich region that runs along the eastern border with Iraq.

The group has come under attack from two separate campaigns, including the regime’s Russian-backed assault, and another operation by the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces, an alliance of Kurdish and Arab fighters.

News of the capture of Deir Ezzor came several days after Russia said its submarine deployed in the Mediterranean fired three ballistic missiles to destroy an ISIS command post in Deir Ezzor province.

The submarines used by Russia are covered from Syria by Moscow’s S-300 and S-400 missiles systems and its Bastion coastal defense system.

  30. What If Home Depot Had Refused to Rent A Truck to Sayfullo Saipov?
    Would any employee dare?
    November 2, 2017
    Robert Spencer
    107

John Miller, NYPD deputy commissioner of intelligence and counterterrorism, said Wednesday: “We did extensive outreach to the truck rental business. We visited over 148 truck rental locations in this area. The industry has had a high level of awareness on this matter from the NYPD.” And “Miller said that if a company is suspicious of a would-be renter, they usually delay or simply deny a rental to let police investigate.”

Really? The companies deny rentals to suspicious characters? Is that so?

Sayfullo Saipov, the New York City truck jihad mass murderer, looks like a jihadi. But to acknowledge that would be to engage in racial profiling, and given the decidedly Islamic style of his facial hair (a hadith depicts Muhammad telling Muslims to trim their mustaches but not their beards, because the Jews and Christians trim their beards but not their mustaches), religious profiling, a manifestation of “Islamophobia,” as well.

  31. America’s Terrorist Lottery
Is it time to stop using games of chance to pick future Americans?
    November 2, 2017
    Matthew Vadum

After a boastful, giddy Muslim jihadist from Central Asia gleefully mowed down eight innocents with a rented truck in a Manhattan park on Tuesday, President Trump called for an end to the “diversity visa lottery” program that brought him to America.

“We’re so politically correct that we’re afraid to do anything” about the Muslim terrorist threat, the president said at a meeting of his cabinet yesterday.

“I am going to ask Congress to immediately initiate work to get rid of this program … Diversity lottery. Sounds nice, it is not nice, it is not good. It hasn’t been good and we have been against it.”

Trump took to social media to fire a broadside at Democrats.

“The terrorist came into our country through what is called the ‘Diversity Visa Lottery Program,’ a Charles Schumer beauty. I want merit based,” Trump tweeted Wednesday at 7:24 a.m. Six minutes later he followed up with, “We are fighting hard for Merit Based immigration, no more Democrat Lottery Systems. We must get MUCH tougher (and smarter).”

  32. Diversity is Our Terror
There’s a whole lot of diversity. And it’s killing us
    November 2, 2017
    Daniel Greenfield

New York City is an incredibly diverse place.

Here, an Uzbek Muslim immigrant in on a visa diversity lottery can run over Argentinian tourists, an Egyptian-Palestinian Muslim can shoot a Danish musician on the observation deck of the Empire State Building, Saudi Muslims can fly planes into the World Trade Center killing people from 77 countries, an Afghan Muslim can plant pressure cooker bombs in Chelsea, a Lebanese Muslim can open fire on a van of Jewish students and a Pakistani-Kuwaiti and Iraqi Muslim can bomb the World Trade Center.

    Truly, diversity is our terror.

Nationally, the perpetrators and plotters of Islamic terrorism in just the last ten years have included Pakistanis (San Bernardino, Garland, UC Merced), Chechens (Boston Marathon bombing), Afghans (Orlando shootings), Somalis (Portland Christmas Tree bomb plot, Minnesota mall stabbing, Ohio State Car Ramming, Columbus Machete Attack), Palestinians (Fort Hood, Chattanooga recruitment shootings) and Iraqis (Bowling Green plot).

That’s a whole lot of diversity. And it’s killing us.

  33. The Democrats’ Preoccupation with Inequality
The roots of the Left’s thinking.
    November 2, 2017
    Dennis Prager

If you want to understand today’s Democratic Party, a word search of the Democrats’ debate last week provides a pretty clear picture.

Here is how many times key words were spoken:

    Wall Street: 23

    Tax: 20

    Inequality: 9

    Wealthy: 7

Now, compare the number of times other national concerns were mentioned:

    ISIS: 4

    Terror/ists/ism: 2

    Defense: 2

    Military (excluding Jim Webb): 1

    Freedom: 1

    Debt (national): 0

  34. CANADA – BRITISH COLUMBIA – PoCo mosque to get $53k from federal government in spite of Revenue Canada concerns

Federal funding to go to security at PoCo mosque

The Port Coquitlam mosque that was recently cited for financial irregularities — and possible ties to overseas funders linked to militant Islamist group Hamas — is expected to receive a $53,000 grant from the federal government this week.

The funds are part of a program launched by the Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness designed to improve security for communities at risk of hate-motivated crimes. According to a ministry spokesperson, the money will be used to purchase and install CCTV cameras and an alarm system at the Masjid Alhidayah and Islamic Cultural Centre on Kingsway Avenue.

“[The Security Infrastructure Program (SIP)] is providing funding for the Islamic Society of British Columbia… to make a number of security improvements to address the threats they face,” said Scott Bardsley, a press secretary with the ministry, in an email. “The society is eligible to receive funding under the terms of the program.”

Last May, the society, which operates the PoCo mosque, was fined $9,120 after a Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) audit covering 2011 to 2013 turned up thousands of dollars in financial irregularities and at least $127,000 in questionable expenses by former director Saadeldin Bahr.

Some of the spending noted by the agency included $66,028 for groceries and pharmacy items, $22,193 for gas and car washes, $2,967 in restaurant meals, $4,239 for electronics like PlayStation games and an iPad, and $4,958 for an Evolution Spa.
“A majority of the expenses, which Mr. Bahr paid for using his credit cards and were then subsequently reimbursed, appeared to be for personal use, and, in our opinion, constitute an undue benefit,” the CRA stated in its notice of penalty.

Bahr stepped down from the board last May after he was sentenced to three and a half years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman at the mosque in 2013.
But three of the four board members who were in place when the dubious spending occurred — Fateh M. Niaz, Firoz Miyanji and Faizel Ismail Kathrada — are still overseeing the society’s operations, according to the CRA.

The CRA also noted that the society’s links to the Eid Foundation, an organization based in Qatar that is a member of the Union of Good. In 2008, the U.S. Treasury Department stated the Union of Good was “created by Hamas leadership to transfer funds to the terrorist organization.” Hamas is also currently designated a listed terrorist entity by the government of Canada.

The Islamic Society of BC told auditors that it only had limited ties to the Eid Foundation but the CRA noted both entities shared directors. As well, an employment contract for the hiring of one-time PoCo imam Ayman El Najjer was negotiated with funds from the Eid Foundation and was written on foundation letterhead.

“The [society’s] connection to and possible control by the Eid Foundation is particularly concerning given that publicly available information… indicates that the Eid Foundation is alleged to have provided support to terrorism,” the CRA said in the report. The document later stated that the Islamic Society of BC was “controlled or influenced by the Eid Foundation to some extent during the audit period under review.”

Bardsley told The Tri-City News this week that despite the allegations, the PoCo society continues to be a registered charity. The CRA has chosen not to revoke its status, he said, meaning the society is eligible for the $53,000 in grant money.
“Our government takes allegations of links to organizations that support terrorism very seriously,” Bardsley said in an email. “The resources of a charity should not be directed by a terrorist entity. If the Canada Revenue Agency finds that an organization is involved in activities that contravene the act, it responds accordingly.”

  35. “Guam Tipping Over” Congressman Claims Stolen Election
    November 2, 2017
    Daniel Greenfield

Congressman Hank Johnson, a cheerful racist who once claimed Guam might tip over and compared Jews to termites, is back at it again.

Georgia Congressman Hank Johnson says he thinks Republicans may have stolen an election from his fellow Democrat, Jon Ossoff. Ossoff lost a special congressional election to Republican Karen Handel in June in the most expensive congressional election in US history.

“A difference of about 3200 votes,” recalled US Rep. Hank Johnson. The Democrat had employed Ossoff as a congressional aide. Ossoff stayed consistently ahead in most polls leading up to the runoff – then lost on election night.

“I think it’s quite possible that Jon Ossoff won that election and the election was stolen from him. That’s my suspicion,” Johnson said Monday.

Except that when Ossoff, Johnson’s pajama boy, went up against Karen Handel, he lost 52 to 47. Or some 13,000 votes.

If he could lose by 13,000 votes to Handel, he could certainly have lost by 3,200 votes. But what’s really going on here is that the Ossoff clan are Johnson donors.

  36. Ex-DNC Boss Donna Brazile: Hillary Controlled DNC Since 2015
    November 2, 2017
    Daniel Greenfield

The theme of Donna Brazile’s widely cited Politico essay is simple. It’s Sergeant Schultz’s old motto. She knew nothing. Not a thing. And when she found out, it broke her heart. Also it was all Debbie Wasserman-Schultz’s fault.

And Hillary Clinton’s people actually ran the DNC.

Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, had not been the most active chair in fundraising at a time when President Barack Obama’s neglect had left the party in significant debt. As Hillary’s campaign gained momentum, she resolved the party’s debt and put it on a starvation diet. It had become dependent on her campaign for survival, for which she expected to wield control of its operations.

Debbie was not a good manager. She hadn’t been very interested in controlling the party—she let Clinton’s headquarters in Brooklyn do as it desired so she didn’t have to inform the party officers how bad the situation was. How much control Brooklyn had and for how long was still something I had been trying to uncover for the last few weeks.

    She knew nothing!

Authorities charged four Philadelphia election workers with rigging a statehouse election and throwing the seat to the Democrats.

Dolores Shaw, Calvin Mattox, Thurman George, and Wallace Hill have been charged with interference with primaries and elections, prohibiting duress and intimidation of voters and interference with the free exercise of elective franchise, tampering with public records, conspiracy, and other offenses.

Democrat Emilio Vasquez won the seat to the Pennsylvania State House, during a special election in March.

Three specific incidents, according to the Office of the Attorney General, led to the charges:

Islamic researcher Sheikh Rashid Sultan said that he supported the killing of homosexuals by the method prescribed in the Quran – throwing them from high places – because “homosexuality goes against human nature and is an affront to humanity.”

Egyptian lawyer Essam Haggag said: “Let’s build a prison, anywhere in the desert, and throw those dogs in it.” They were participating in a September 26 LTC TV debate on homosexuality in Egypt, in which life coach Ashgaan Nabil said that homosexuality had been “politicized” and become an American “conspiracy against Egyptian society.”

  41. Brother of French jihadi who killed 7 escapes life sentence (abcnews, Nov 2, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/verdict-expected-trial-french-jihadi-merahs-brother-50879859

“The older brother of a man who killed Jewish schoolchildren and paratroopers in southern France was convicted Thursday of having ties to a terrorist enterprise but found not guilty of complicity in his sibling’s deadly attacks.

A Paris court sentenced Abdelkader Merah, 35, to 20 years in prison after a tense and emotional trial over the slayings his younger brother, Mohammed Merah, carried out in the Toulouse region in March 2012. The shootings marked the first of what became a wave of attacks in France perpetrated by homegrown Islamic extremists.

The trial was the only opportunity for families of the seven victims — three Jewish schoolchildren, a teacher and three paratroopers — to seek public justice. Days after his deadly rampage, Mohammed Merah, 23, was killed by France’s police special forces after a 32-hour standoff.

The younger Merah trained with al-Qaida-linked extremists in Pakistan. During his standoff with the elite police unit, he spoke with an intelligence negotiator and claimed to have acted on behalf of the al-Qaida group.

Abdelkader Merah was accused of radicalizing his younger brother, but always denied helping Mohammed plan or prepare for the fatal shootings he executed from a powerful motor scooter.

After eight hours of deliberations, the five professional magistrates who heard the case convicted Merah of a lesser crime — taking part in a criminal terrorist association with his brother and others.

But the court acquitted him of the most serious charge, complicity in the terror murders Mohammed committed, for which he faced a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Presiding Judge Franck Zientara said there was no proof the older Merah helped his brother set up or carry out his nine-day shooting spree.

“Abdelkader Merah shared his brother’s motives, but none of the elements in the case file or at the trial shows that he knew of the targets and crimes of his brother,” Zientara said.

The verdict was received calmly by the victims’ families, who occupied the courtroom’s first benches. The mothers of two of the three paratroopers killed by Mohammed Merah cried.

After leaving the courtroom, one of the mothers, Latifa Ibn Ziaten, said “it was very hard, too hard” and expressed regret that the court didn’t go “all the way.”

“I think we are naive and we need to open our eyes. This is not what I was expecting,” Ibn Ziaten told reporters. “As for Abdelkader Merah, I hope that every day and every night in his life he will see us, all these families and this suffering.”

Some of the plaintiffs’ lawyers also expressed disappointment at the partial acquittal…”

  42. Macedonia: 33 convicted over deadly militant attack (abcnews, Nov 2, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/macedonia-33-convicted-deadly-militant-attack-50885929

“A court in Macedonia has convicted 33 people of being members of an ethnic Albanian militant group and planning terrorist attacks.

The suspects were arrested following a deadly police raid in 2015. The raid and an ensuing gun battle near in the northern border town of Kumanovo left eight officers and 10 militants dead.

Seven of the defendants were handed life sentences on Thursday, and another 13 were sentenced to 40 years in prison. Others got prison sentences from 12 to 20 years. Four men were cleared.

The trial, which lasted 20 months, was held under heavy security and the defendants were brought to the court Thursday by helicopter. State prosecutors had sought life sentences for all 37 on trial.

According to a 40-page indictment, the militants had crossed into the country from neighboring Kosovo and planned attacks on government sites in northern Macedonia. It said they had stolen weapons from an army border post, and opened fire on police while officers were carrying out searches.

The militants used assault rifles, rocket-propelled grenades, and hand grenades in a densely built-up neighborhood. At least ten houses were destroyed in the fighting.

Court officials said some defendants were from Kosovo and others were ethnic Albanians from Macedonia.

Macedonia has a large ethnic Albanian minority and fought a nine-month insurgency against militants from the minority in 2001.

The defendants all denied the charges and their lawyers said they would appeal.

“We didn’t expect fair sentences, but we also didn’t expect such a draconian ruling. It was a classic show trial,” Naser Raufi, one of the lawyers for the defense said.”

    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/dutch-court-convicts-suspect-plotting-terror-attack-50886293

“A Dutch court has sentenced a 31-year-old man to four years’ imprisonment for plotting a terror attack after police found an automatic rifle, bomb-making instructions, ammunition and fireworks at his home.

According to a statement issued Thursday by Rotterdam District Court, the man was making preparations for an attack, but had not settled on a specific target at the time of his arrest late last year.

The written verdict says the man, whose identity was not released, “contributed to international terrorism and wanted to strike fear into the Dutch population.”

Prosecutors had sought an eight-year prison sentence, saying the man also had large quantities of propaganda for the Islamic State group at his home.”

  44. Lawyer: EU blocks Egyptian hijacker’s extradition (abcnews, Nov 2, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/cyprus-supreme-court-egyptian-hijacker-extradited-50880349

“The European Court of Human Rights has blocked Cypriot authorities from extraditing an Egyptian hijacker to his homeland until it can examine the case, the Cyprus Justice Ministry and the hijacker’s lawyer said Thursday.

Lawyer Nicoletta Charalambidou told The Associated Press that the European court stayed the extradition of Seif Eddin Mustafa so it could rule on whether doing so would violate one of its articles prohibiting the return of individuals to countries where they may face torture or inhuman treatment.

Charalambidou had applied to the ECHR for the temporary halt to Mustafa’s extradition.

The Justice Ministry said in a statement that it has issued instructions for the immediate suspension of extradition procedures until the ECHR comes down with its ruling.

The ECHR decision came a few hours after Cyprus’ Supreme Court rejected Mustafa’s appeal against his extradition, ruling that there are no legal reasons for the man not to return to his homeland to face justice.

Mustafa, 60, hijacked a domestic EgyptAir flight in March 2016 using a fake suicide belt and diverted it to Cyprus. A six-hour standoff with Cypriot authorities on the tarmac of Cyprus’ Larnaca airport ended peacefully after all 72 passengers and crew were released and Mustafa was arrested.

In a unanimous decision, the five-judge Cypriot panel upheld a lower court ruling which turned down Mustafa’s defense that he may be tortured by Egyptian authorities or be subjected to an unfair trial if he’s returned.

The court in its 29-page ruling also dismissed the argument that Mustafa can’t be extradited because his political asylum claim is still pending.

Mustafa said he meant no harm to anyone, and that he was trying to expose what he called the “fascist regime” of Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi and to help secure the release of 63 female dissidents being held in Egyptian prisons. He also accused Egyptian authorities of torturing and killing Italian doctoral student Giulio Regeni whom he claimed he saw in an Egyptian prison.

Prosecutors said Mustafa admitted in a written statement to police that he only carried out the hijacking in order to reunite with his Cypriot family. Mustafa dismissed the written statement as “purposeful misinformation” by the Cypriot and Egyptian governments put out to discredit him.

Cyprus and Egypt have a 1996 extradition treaty.”

“Police in eastern Indonesia killed two suspected militants and arrested nine others believed to have been involved in the shooting of two law enforcement officers who had just taken their children to school, an official said Thursday.

Police spokesman Setyo Warsito said the counterterrorism squad fatally shot Muhammad Amir and another man identified only as Yaman on Monday in Bima, a hilly district in East Nusa Tenggara province. He said the nine others were arrested in raids in the same area on Wednesday.

He said Amir is believed to have shot and wounded a policeman on Sept. 11 outside a school in Bima where he had just dropped off his child, and that Yaman allegedly drove the motorbike on which Amir was riding.

Warsito said one of the arrested men is believed to have wounded another police officer who had just delivered his child to another school.

Warsito said the men are members of militant group named Jemaah Anshorut Tauhid, a splinter cell of the Southeast Asian network Jemaah Islamiyah. Police seized two handmade guns and ammunitions from them.

Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim nation, has been battling extremism since 2002, when militants linked to Jemaah Islamiyah began attacking Western nightclubs, restaurants and embassies. Attacks at nightclubs on the tourist island of Bali in 2002 killed 202 people, mostly foreign tourists…”
