    • reuters – Court papers show partisan split widening over Russia probe

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Top Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives are refusing to endorse a Republican move to find out who paid the research firm that commissioned a dossier alleging ties between Donald Trump’s campaign and Russia, a court document made public on Monday night showed.

The split is the latest sign of partisan feuding that current and former U.S. officials say is undercutting a House Intelligence Committee probe into Russia’s reported interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Republicans on the committee earlier this month subpoenaed an unidentified bank for the last two years of records of the accounts of Fusion GPS, the political research firm that hired former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele to pull together the dossier on Trump.

The move was an apparent effort to find out who had paid for the work that led to the dossier. The firm assures its clients it will not disclose their identities.

Late last week, Fusion GPS sued the unnamed bank in federal court in Washington, requesting a court order to block the subpoena.

In Monday night’s court filing, lawyers for the House of Representatives, saying they represented the Intelligence Committee, asked the court to reject Fusion’s request.

But the legal challenge was made without support from Democrats, throwing into further question a tradition of bipartisanship in Congress on intelligence issues.

Democrats, who are in the minority, and some Republicans on the House panel, want to investigate Russia’s role in the 2016 election, as well as allegations – so far unproven – that Trump’s team colluded with the Kremlin.

Rep. Devin Nunes, the Intelligence Committee’s Republican chairman, and his allies have focused instead on other issues, including the activities of Fusion GPS.

A footnote in Monday’s court filing says that House lawyers went to court to enforce the subpoena with the authorization of the Bipartisan Legal Advisory Group of the entire House.

But it adds that the House’s “Democratic Leader and Democratic Whip decline to support the Group’s position in this case.”

Rep. Nancy Pelosi is the House Democratic leader, and Rep. Steny Hoyer is the Democratic whip.

The top Democrat on the Intelligence Committee, Rep. Adam Schiff, was not immediately available for comment.

In their court filing, the House lawyers argue that Fusion GPS has no right to quash a valid congressional subpoena.

“The relief Plaintiff seeks is extraordinary and would directly impede an ongoing congressional investigation of the highest national importance,” they wrote in the filing.

The court filing confirms that Nunes retains control of the committee’s Russia investigation, despite saying in April he would step aside and let fellow Republican Rep. Mike Conaway take charge.

Nunes “did not ‘recuse’ himself from the investigation,” the document says.

  4. Egypt army kills 6 terrorists in North Sinai raid: Armed Forces spokesman (ahram, Oct 23, 2017)
    http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/1/64/280276/Egypt/Politics-/Egypt-army-kills–terrorists-in-North-Sinai-raid-A.aspx

“Egyptian security killed six terrorists and seized a large amount of weapons during a raid on a hideout in North Sinai, Armed Forces spokesman Tamer El-Refaie said in a statement on Monday.

The statement came hours after the army said it that it foiled on Monday an attempt to smuggle arms and ammunition into the country through its border with Libya.

The Libyan border operation was part of efforts to track terrorists involved in the Friday shootout between security forces and terrorist militants in the Western Desert, which killed 16 policemen and injured 13 others.

Fifteen terrorists were also killed or injured in Friday’s hours-long shootout, which took place in the Bahariya Oasis, about 135 kilometres southwest of Giza.

Egypt’s security forces have been waging a war over the past four years against an Islamist terrorist insurgency, mostly in North Sinai, that has seen hundreds of security personnel killed, as well as hundreds of terrorists killed in security campaigns.”

  5. Stop targeting Turkey: Erdo?an to EU leaders (hurriyetdailynews, Oct 23, 2017)

“Turkey’s full membership of the EU is the solution to the union’s problems, President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an has claimed, calling on European leaders to “stop targeting Turkey.”

“We expect European leaders to stop targeting Turkey and to return to common sense. Escalating xenophobia is in nobody’s interest. Dreaming of coming to power through Islamophobia is futile,” Erdo?an said in an Oct. 23 speech commemorating Alija Izzetbegovic, the founding president of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

“A Europe without Turkey can only lead to loneliness, despair and internal conflicts [for the EU]. Turkey does not need Europe, but Europe needs [Turkey]. They do not want to admit it, but the solution to Europe’s chronic problems is Turkey’s full membership of the EU,” he added…”

    http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/turkey-has-sought-81-peoples-extradition-since-coup-attempt-germany-121288

“Turkey has sought the extradition of 81 people from Germany since the July 2016 coup attempt, Deutsche Welle (DW) reported on Oct. 23, citing the German Justice Ministry’s response to an inquiry from the parliamentary group of the Left Party.

The Justice Ministry did not provide information on how many of those requests were based on terrorism charges, or whether Berlin complied with the requests.

Most of those whose extraditions were requested are accused of crimes including murder and injury, according to the report. Only eight of the 60 individuals who Turkey asked Germany to extradite up to February were sought on terror charges.

Turkey has repeatedly accused Germany of harboring thousands of suspects allegedly involved in the failed coup attempt on the night of July 15, 2016, which left more than 200 people dead including soldiers and civilians…”

  8. ‘Sons of AKP’: Turkish-German biker gang accused of working with Turkish spies (middleeasteye, Oct 23, 2017)
    http://www.middleeasteye.net/news/sons-akp-turkish-german-biker-turkish-spies-1997656524

“Everything about the Osmanen Germania says “biker gang”. They dress like extras from the US biker series Sons of Anarchy. They roam in packs like biker gangs. They tote guns and glorify violence in slick music videos.

Yet despite the look, the 2,500-strong Turkish-German organisation denies the accusations. It says it is focused on “community service”, while pushing a specific political view – that of Turkey’s ruling AKP party, and an admiration for the Ottoman Empire. And anyway, they don’t ride bikes.

But German officials say they their actions now exceed mere admiration of the AKP. They say the group has been co-opted by Turkish intelligence and is being used to intimidate and target the Turkish government’s opponents in Germany.

Herbert Reul, the interior minister for the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, on 18 October submitted a report to the state parliament, alleging the Osmanen Germania was being used by Turkish MIT security services as a counter-terrorism unit in Germany.

“Turkish authorities support the actions of the Osmanen Germania and view them as counter-terrorism activities in Germany – so directed towards the PKK, extreme left Turks, and the Gulen movement,” Reul wrote, according to the German newspaper General-Anzeiger.

The Gulen movement, or Hizmet (“service”), is led by Fethullah Gulen, a US-based Turkish Muslim preacher, whom Turkish authorities say orchestrated last July’s failed coup attempt along with his followers.

In response to a question in the state parliament regarding the activities of Turkish intelligence, Reul said MIT was active in North Rhine-Westphalia and cited four lists submitted to the federal government by Turkish authorities about people and institutions with links to Gulen…”

    • Looks like Erdogan has a regiment of semi trained personal in Germany, a regiment that is willing to call attention to themselves. While they are drawing everyone’s attention what are the active and sleeper agents doing? Merkel has allowed an enemy Army entry into all nations composing the EU, this army is propositioned to go to the Mosque, draw weapons and move on government buildings when Erdogan gives the order. Doing this will strengthen Erdogan;s hand in the Middle East making him a more valuable asset to Czar Vladimir Putin as he plays power broker in the Middle East.

  9. US military to continue Niger operations (gulfnews, Oct 24, 2017)
    http://gulfnews.com/news/americas/usa/us-military-to-continue-niger-operations-1.2111671

“US soldiers will continue assisting local forces in Niger despite the deaths of four Americans in an ambush, the top uniformed American military officer said Monday.

“Our intent is to continue operations there,” Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Joseph Dunford told reporters as he provided new details on the October 4 attack by Daesh-linked fighters.

Dunford said the US has had up to 800 military officials in Niger recently, the largest American force anywhere in sub-Saharan Africa, training and supporting the Nigerien military in fighting insurgents.

The four men were killed on a reconnaissance patrol on the Niger-Mali border directly north of Niamey. Dunford said five Nigerien soldiers were killed, and another two Americans wounded.

The 12 American and 30 Nigerien soldiers on the mission were attacked by about 50 fighters Dunford characterized as locals associated with Daesh.

Dunford said an investigation is underway into what happened. He said the mission was originally set based on an assessment that they were “unlikely” to come into conflict with any local forces.

“They did not expect resistance on their particular patrol,” he said…”

    • Interesting detail, all A Teams are 12 man units, what was an entire A Team doing on the recon patrol? The last I heard the rules were 2 Americans advising (leading) the patrol of locals. Either they don’t trust their native allies or the patrol was more then a recon patrol.

  10. Australia expands security assistance to Philippines to combat Islamist militants (reuters, Oct 24, 2017)
    http://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-asean-philippines-australia/australia-expands-security-assistance-to-philippines-to-combat-islamist-militants-idUKKBN1CT0CR

“Australia on Tuesday announced the expansion of its security support to the Philippines, which will involve training in urban counter-terrorism, to fight the rise and spread of Islamist militancy in the region.

The announcement follows the end of the 154-day battle for Marawi city which stunned the Philippine’s military inexperienced in urban combat, and fuelled concerns Islamic State loyalists wanted to use the southern island of Mindanao as a base for Southeast Asia activity.

The battle for Marawi ended on Monday. Philippines authorities said 920 militants, 165 troops and police and at least 45 civilians were killed in the conflict, which displaced more than 300,000 people.

Australia, along with the United States, Singapore and China, provided weaponry and technical support, including surveillance aircraft.

“All nations must learn from the recent Marawi conflict and the Philippines’ experience,” said Australian Defence Minister Marise Payne, adding Canberra and Manila will host a post-conflict seminar to learn from the five-month Marawi conflict.

About 80 soldiers from Australia’s mobile training team will be deployed in local bases in the Philippines to train army and marine units in urban counter-terrorism warfare, said Payne on the sidelines of an ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting in Clark, a former U.S. air force base.

“The practical training the Australian Defence Forces (ADF) will provide will ensure the Philippines defence force is better able to counter the brutal tactics being employed by terrorists,” Payne told a news conference.

“The spread of Daesh-inspired (Islamic State) terrorism is a direct threat to Australia and its interests and we are committed to working with our partners and allies to ensuring Daesh cannot establish a geographic foothold in the region.”

Payne said Australia was concerned with Islamic State fighters returning from Iraq and Syria to home countries in Southeast Asia and was working closely with Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Singapore to monitor militant movements…”

  11. U.S. touts military ties in Philippines as Duterte courts Russia, China

CLARK, Philippines (Reuters) – The timing of U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis’ trip to the Philippines this week couldn’t have been better, coming just as it celebrated a victory against Islamist militants in Marawi City – with a critical dose of help from the U.S. military.

But as Mattis met President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday, five Russian warships were parked off the Philippines and Moscow was preparing to formally hand over thousands of assault rifles, a million rounds of ammunition and 20 army trucks at a public ceremony on Wednesday.

Duterte, known for his strident anti-American rhetoric, has made no secret of his plans to cultivate ties with America’s rivals, Russia and China. Those efforts appear to be starting to bear fruit.

Just before he met Mattis, Duterte sat down with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu on Tuesday, who, like Mattis, was attending a gathering of Asian defense ministers north of Manila. Shoigu signed two military deals, including the procurement of unspecified equipment.

  12. ‘On safari in Trump’s America,’ progressive listening team fails to register biggest lesson of all
    By J.E. Dyer October 24, 2017

I want to stress at the outset that this post isn’t about bashing the folks from the progressive-left group Third Way, who recently made the “safari” Molly Ball outlines in an article this week for The Atlantic.

I take as given that the Third Way team did the listening just as Ball says. They really did go out to listen, with open minds, to the people assembled for them in focus groups. In good faith, they sought to find out what was on the minds of Americans in the states and regions that voted Trump into office.

I think Molly Ball shows commendable self-awareness, in fact, in suggesting that although the Third Way team made a good-faith effort, its members ultimately retreated into their own heads as they drew their all-important conclusions.

They knew, Ball recounts, that they were hearing points of view that were somewhat (even largely) irreconcilable. Yet they ended up reporting their trip out (to the extent they have done so; there are states they haven’t finished their reporting on) as a set of findings that what Americans really want is to find ways to come together and put their differences aside

    https://libertyunyielding.com/2017/10/24/safari-trumps-america-progressive-listening-team-fails-register-biggest-lesson/

    • She does a very good job of making the point that politics in the US have reached the point where we can’t make any agreements with the progressive left, we have given in too many times and lost too much liberty to have any slack left. I remember when I was much freer then I am now and my parents were once freer then I was. Giving into the Progressives means letting the government control more of our lives.

In their quest for more government control over the US (to force everyone to live the one true way) the left has pushed us to the point where we either resist and claw back our freedom or we surrender and become slaves. The US government has become more Oppressive then the British government was in the 1770s. back then we revolted to regain our rights as “free born Englishmen”. Now we are resisting and preparing to fight if necessary to once again gain our rights as “free born Englishmen”. Everyone in the Anglophone world needs to fight to regain their rights as “free born Englishmen”

  13. One professor finally owns up to why liberals want to abolish school math
By Ben Bowles October 24, 2017

Arguments against the teaching of math in school are not new, though opponents up until recently have been shy about their reasons for wanting to eliminate this valuable area of knowledge. In 2016, Andrew Hacker, an emeritus political science professor at New York’s Queens College, told the Associated Press that “one out of 5 young Americans does not graduate from high school,” adding that “the chief academic reason is they failed ninth-grade algebra.”

Earlier this year, Eloy Ortiz Oakley, chancellor of California Community Colleges, took the grievance a step further, stating that algebra should be abolished on the grounds that it “plagues all Americans — particularly low-income Americans.”

Now at last, a professor has dared say what none of her fellow academicians would. Her name is Rochelle Gutierrez, she teaches at the University of Illinois, and she states outright in a new book that math is — well — a “white” thing:

  14. Germany: ‘We should’ve learnt from history’ – Protest outside Reichtag as AfD makes debut

A group of anti-racism activists held a demonstration outside the German Reichstag, in Berlin, on Tuesday, as the Bundestag convened for its next session following the September elections. They were protesting against the anti-immigration Alternative fuer Deutschland (AfD), who are now entering the Bundestag for the first time.

Attending the protest were representatives from the far-left Die Linke party and various anti-racism organisations.

One Die Linke member, Dietmar Bartsch, said that his party would continue to oppose the AfD, “It is totally clear that our positioning in the German Bundestag is to never cooperate with the AfD,” before going on to say, “But the fight has to continue both in and out of the Bundestag.”

Reflecting on the September elections, one protester recalled that he felt Germany was going in the wrong direction, with the AfD’s election successes. He said, “We should have learnt from our history not to go down this road of Nationalist ideology again.”

    • They should have learned from history, the problem is they are protesting the wrong party, the danger of a dictatorship is coming from Merkel and her party not afd

    • Jihad: Toulouse boy’s name leads to France dilemma (BBC, Oct 24, 2017)
      http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-41734079

“Is it acceptable to name your baby “Jihad” in France, which has suffered Europe’s worst Islamist terror attacks in recent years?

France’s chief prosecutor now has to wrestle with that question after a couple’s chosen name for their son was referred by authorities in Toulouse.

In turn, the French judge for family issues may have to rule on the case.

“Jihad” in Arabic means “effort” or “struggle”, not specifically “holy war”.

French law does not restrict parents’ name choices for their children, provided a name does not harm the child’s interests and is not opposed by other family members on reputational grounds.

The Toulouse boy called “Jihad” was born in August. Previously, other boys have been allowed to keep that name in France.

The term “jihadists” is commonly used to describe Islamist militants, such as those who carry out terror attacks in the name of so-called Islamic State (IS).

Since the start of 2015, Islamist militants have killed more than 230 people in France, where a state of emergency remains in force…”

  15. BOMBSHELL: Russia received stolen highly enriched uranium from Obama admin via this public servant
By Thomas Madison October 23, 2017

A classified cable published by WikiLeaks adds more fuel to the Russian collusion fire, except it does not implicate President Trump. Rather, it blows the whistle on the Obama administration and [drum roll] then-FBI Director Robert Mueller — the man who believe it or charged with investigating Trump for Russian collusion. Honestly, you simply cannot make this stuff up!

For whatever reason, and I’m sure it had to do with his being such a loyal and trusted Obama soldier, Mueller was chosen to deliver a “ten-gram sample of highly enriched uranium (HEU) seized in early 2006 in Georgia during a nuclear smuggling sting operation” and transfer it personally to Russian authorities.

Can you imagine the lynch mob that would be chasing President Trump had it been his administration that had done this?

    • Saudi Arabia to build new MEGA CITY on Red Sea offering connecting three CONTINENTS (express, Oct 24, 2017)
      http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/870563/Saudi-Arabia-Red-Sea-coast-new-city-connect-Egypt-Africa

“Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced the elaborate plans for the staggering project in a bid to prepare the Sunni Kingdom for the post-oil era.

The project, called NEOM, is designed to offer a lifestyle that is not currently available in Saudi Arabia, according to the prince.

A promotional video for the new city shows women will be free to jog in leotards in public spaces, working alongside men an playing instruments.

The video also features a woman wearing a patterned pink hijab.

NEOM will be built “from the ground up” on greenland, according to the prince.

The project will receive more than £379million ($500million) from the desert country’s government, as well as support from Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund and international investors.

Prince Salman said in a statement: “NEOM will be constructed from the ground up, on greenfield sites, allowing it a unique opportunity to be distinguished from all other places that have been developed and constructed over hundreds of years.”

The plan includes proposals to build a huge bridge sprawling across the Red Sea, connecting the new city to Egypt, Jordan and the rest of Africa, creating “the world’s first independent special zone stretching over three countries”.

The prince has made it his mission to prepare the Sunni Kingdom for life after its oil trade dries up, revealing plans to sell a stake in Saudi Aramco – an oil giant – and create the largest sovereign wealth fund in the world.

He has also ended social constraints in the Muslim-majority nation during his meteoric rise to power, such as binning a long-term ban on female drivers in the country.

Steffen Hertog, a professor at the London School of Economics, told Bloomberg the project “seems to be broadly modeled on the ‘free zone’ concept pioneered in Dubai, where such zones are not only exempt from tariffs but also have their own regulations and laws, hence operating separately from the rest of government”.

Prof. Hertog, who specialises in analysing shifts in Middle Eastern state-business relations, added: “In Dubai, this has worked well, but attempts to copy it have done less well in the region.””

    • Saudi Arabia vows to DESTROY extremism – Crown Prince announces return to ‘moderate Islam’ (express, Oct 24, 2017)
      http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/870567/saudi-arabia-iran-islam-extremism

“The Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman today promised Saudi Arabi will become a more “open” society and return to “what we were before”.

He also hit out at Iran, accusing them of promoting extremism, making constructive dialogue in the region unlikely.

The Crown Prince’s comments came after it was revealed women will finally be allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia.

He said today: “We are returning to what we were before – a country of moderate Islam that is open to all religions and to the world.

“We will not spend the next 30 years of our lives dealing with destructive ideas. We will destroy them today.

“We will end extremism very soon.”

However, rather than being simply a promise to row back on the more conservative aspects of life in Saudi Arabia, this declaration is more likely just the latest statement in a war of words with Iran.

He said dialogue with Saudi Arabia’s was becoming increasingly unlikely given what he said was a lax, or even encouraging, attitude towards extremism…”

  16. #FactsFirst? CNN’s Don Lemon Reads Letter To Trump Then Weeps On Air

Just hours after CNN self-importantly and sanctimoniously claimed they’d be the network of “Facts First” one of the 3rd place news outlet’s anchors took to the air and read a letter he’d written to President Donald Trump and Gold Star Widow Myeshia Johnson. He then broke down in tears overcome by the emotional power of his own words.

Lemon’s letter/monologue began with FACTS designed to puff himself and his broadcast up a bit, “I interviewed you multiple times. You’ve introduced me to your family.” The preamble also offered FACTS that served the purpose to paint Lemon as a victim of Trump’s unwarranted abuse, “You’ve also criticized me publicly, both in front of cameras and on Twitter, calling me ‘hateful’, ‘dumb’, a ‘lightweight.’”`

FACTS… make no doubt about it. These are all FACTS and Lemon presented those FACTS first. But then, several seconds later, Lemon ventured into the realm of speculation and opinion as the entire premise of his monologue:

I feel compelled to do that after this latest controversy with the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson. Your tweet this morning essentially called her a liar.

“Your tweet this morning essentially called her a liar.” Essentially. Well CNN, did Trump call Mrs. Johnson a liar or didn’t he? Why equivocate? You are dealing in the world of FACTS here, not interpretation, right? Essentially is a weasel word. Essentially is an extrapolation. Essentially is a way to make something true that may or may not be true. Essentially is a point of view. Essentially is not, a FACT.

    Essentially, is a banana.

I’m guessing “Facts First” is meant to convey to viewers that CNN represents the grown-ups in the room. The real journalists. The adults who will not be caught up in the partisan hysteria of the times and will dispassionately deliver the news, the FACTS, to you the viewer.

This is the news network that recently fired 3 reporters for a story that had to be retracted for its lack of provable FACTS.

This is the news network that for months repeated the Obama/Clinton talking point that “17 intelligence agencies” had verified that Russia hacked John Podesta’s emails when in truth it was 3, maybe 4.

This is the news network that continues to bring James Clapper on the air as an expert guest even though he has lied under oath before the Senate and either lied or is completely befuddled regarding wire taps on Trump campaign officials.

This is the news network that told us James Comey would dispute Trump’s version of conversations the two had had just hours before Comey actually confirmed Trump’s account under oath. They reversed that story, when the FACTS came out.

This is the network that showed a picture of a rifle with a grenade launcher while explaining the FACTS about bump stocks to their gullible audience.

But that is all in the past for CNN. Now they are “Facts First.” And that’s what we saw last night with Don Lemon’s monologue. Well, it’s essentially what we saw.

But Lemon wasn’t done. After steering his monologue to Mrs. Johnson and praising the heroism of her late husband, Don Lemon cried. On the air. After reading and reflecting on his own brilliant prose, he wept. And he had to take a moment before he could continue.

    He cried.

    Bananas.

  17. Hillary Keeping Top Dollar Campaign Staff On Payroll

According to recent campaign finance filings, failed Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton is still paying top campaign staffers. Her political arm, Hillary for America, is still employing a sizable staff of elite operatives, nearly a year after her humiliating defeat at the hands of Donald Trump.

Since the campaign concluded, top aids such as Huma Abedin have been paid thousands to operate as spokesmen, advisors, digital coordinators and political strategists. Many of those still on the payroll are long-time Clinton allies and confidants, many of whom were with her during her disastrous 2008 run against Barrack Obama.

Abedin has been paid about $67,000 since the election campaign, while spokesman Nicholas Merrill, has been paid $24,357 this year from the campaign. Deputy Digital Director for Clinton’s campaign, Jenna Lowenstein, received $7,831.59 from the campaign in January alone, and also still pulls a salary from another Clinton-aligned super PAC. Elizabeth Jones, the chief operating officer of Hillary for America, has pulled a $95,000 salary from the Clinton campaign, this year alone.

  18. “Inquiry” Into Russian Uranium One Scandal

Two more Republican-led congressional committees will probe the Obama administration’s decision to approve the sale of American uranium production capability to a Russian state-run energy conglomerate, a key GOP lawmaker announced Tuesday.

Rep. Devin Nunes, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said he’d be linking up with the House Oversight panel led by Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.). The Senate Judiciary Committee has already said it would investigate the uranium deal.

The announcement Tuesday is sure to infuriate Democrats, who have generally dismissed the issue as an attempt to distract from the ongoing investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. It comes on the same day President Donald Trump is slated to visit the Capitol to meet with Senate Republicans and as leaders of the Russian election-meddling probes have signaled the end of those investigations may be nearing.

Nunes’ announcement follows reports in recent days suggesting the sale of uranium production facilities to the Russian-run Rosatom came amid a broader bribery plot by Russian officials to gain a foothold in the American energy industry while President Barack Obama was in office.

  19. zero hedge – House Launches Probe Into Comey’s Handling Of Clinton Email Investigation

Much like Hillary’s former IT consultant Paul Combetta who admitted to deleting Hillary’s emails despite the existence of a Congressional subpoena, it seems as though James Comey has just had his very own “oh shit” moment.

After months of inexplicable delays, the chairman of
the House Judiciary and Oversight committees, Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) and Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), announced moments ago a joint investigation into how the Justice Department handled last year’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server.

Among other things, Goodlatte and Gowdy said that the FBI must answer for why it chose to provide public updates in the Clinton investigation but not in the Trump investigation and why the FBI decided to “appropriate full decision making in respect to charging or not charging Secretary Clinton,” a power typically left to the DOJ.

“Our justice system is represented by a blind-folded woman holding a set of scales. Those scales do not tip to the right or the left; they do not recognize wealth, power, or social status. The impartiality of our justice system is the bedrock of our republic and our fellow citizens must have confidence in its objectivity, independence, and evenhandedness. The law is the most equalizing force in this country. No entity or individual is exempt from oversight.

“Decisions made by the Department of Justice in 2016 have led to a host of outstanding questions that must be answered. These include, but are not limited to:

    FBI’s decision to publicly announce the investigation into Secretary Clinton’s handling of classified information but not to publicly announce the investigation into campaign associates of then-candidate Donald Trump;

    FBI’s decision to notify Congress by formal letter of the status of the investigation both in October and November of 2016;

    FBI’s decision to appropriate full decision making in respect to charging or not charging Secretary Clinton to the FBI rather than the DOJ;

FBI’s timeline in respect to charging decisions.

‘The Committees will review these decisions and others to better understand the reasoning behind how certain conclusions were drawn. Congress has a constitutional duty to preserve the integrity of our justice system by ensuring transparency and accountability of actions taken.”

    • Grand juries, indictments, the Courts. Due process, penalties for the guilty according to statutes written. That’s what we need.
Congressional committees never go anywhere. How many times have they questioned culprits, asked questions that make themselves look cute, then wave “bye-bye” to the miscreant? Trey Gowdy is fun to watch but he’s in the tank with the rest of the swamp creatures.
Otherwise…why isn’t Lois Lerner in jail? The Crapper for perjury? The _Hag_?

      • I agree with you but as far as I can find contempt (inherit contempt) is the only thing Congress can arrest and imprison someone for, all other charges must be referred to the DOJ which can (and under Obama) did ignore the recommendations for investigation and prosecution.

        • That’s why I’m planning to boycott the next “explosive” Congressional show-&-tell. Sucker-bait, I’m tired of it.

  20. Germany: Terror Cases Quadruple to 900
    October 24, 2017
    Daniel Greenfield

There is an argument to be made that Obama’s Arab Spring, with all its resulting consequences, including the various wars and civil wars, broke Europe. Whether that accelerated path to a civilizational conflict actually serves as a wake up call or a closing bell is still up in the air. But Europe, as I have discussed previously, is quickly stumbling into a war that it isn’t prepared for.

It’s bad in France. It’s bad in the UK. And Germany has hit its own speed bump with Frau Merkel at the wheel.

The number of terrorism-related cases investigated by German authorities have quadrupled over the past year, newspaper Welt am Sonntag revealed Sunday.

Prosecutors have opened more than 900 cases so far this year, compared to 240 throughout 2016. Just 80 cases related to terrorism reached the courts in 2013.

The federal prosecutors office can’t keep up with the increase and nearly 300 cases have been transferred to the state level. Not all cases involve plans to carry out attacks. Migrants from Syran, Iraq and Afghanistan have been tried over alleged membership in terror groups without being suspected of planning attacks on European soil.

Germany’s federal police (BKA) estimates 705 Islamist extremists are willing to carry out terror attacks, up from 600 during an estimate in February.

That’s far too many for German law enforcement to cope with. Terror cases have outpaced the resources of a number of European countries. And they’re pushing our limits in America.

    http://www.frontpagemag.com/point/268214/germany-terror-cases-quadruple-900-daniel-greenfield

    • The main reason that the police are being overwhelmed is because this is is a military invasion that the western politicians insist on treating a a criminal action. The police aren’t equiped to handle a military problem and have been overwhelmed, In many European nations we are already seeing martial law de facto if not de jure. This is the beginning of the strong man rule that most of the world is sprinting into.

The big question is , who will the military be used against? the native Europeans who are fighting for their lives and culture or the invaders that the leftist politicians are using to destroy Western Civilization. I don’t doubt that in the long run the Europeans will regain control of their continent but it will be a long and bloody struggle. And the war will be a true world war with major fighting in every nation on earth. What we must do is to continue to resist the Islamization of our nations and prepare for the coming chaos.

    • Germany Sees Fourfold Rise in Terrorism-Related Cases (breitbart, Oct 24, 2017)
      http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/10/24/germany-fourfold-rise-terror-cases/

“Authorities in Germany are struggling to cope with the threat posed by Islamist terrorism, with police warning that the nation houses hundreds of extremists willing to carry out attacks.

According to the Welt am Sonntag, Germany has seen a quadrupling of the number of terror-related cases in just one year, with prosecutors having opened more than 900 so far in 2017, compared with 250 cases initiated throughout 2016.

Around 705 Islamists who are living in Germany have been identified by the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) as posing a terror threat to the nation. While some of these extremists have been locked up, authorities say radicalisation is a major problem in German prisons.

Local media reported this week that a “highly dangerous” Lebanese migrant who officials classify as a “threat to internal security” in Germany will soon be released from prison despite his having threatened to carry out attacks on non-Muslims.

Mohammed A. was radicalised while serving a three and a half year term for robbery, according to authorities in Berlin, who warned in an official statement that the 27-year-old plans to “use every opportunity for an attack on unbelievers” after his release from detention.

The rising terror threat is likely to play a role in coalition talks between parties, with the Free Democratic Party (FDP) calling for Germany to deport foreign Islamists.

The country’s judiciary requires greater numbers of staff as a result of the “overload” in terror-related cases, according to FDP deputy federal president Wolfgang Kubicki — who sits on the party’s negotiating team in talks hoping to form a coalition government with the centre-right Union parties, and the Green party.

“Expulsion for Islamists who are not German nationals needs to be compulsory and enforced,” he told the Welt am Sonntag.

Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) was significantly weakened at federal elections last month, as Germans voters protested at the polls the chancellor’s decision to open Europe’s borders to an unprecedented influx of migrants from the third world in 2015.

A report published in August found that refugees and asylum seekers have been involved in more than half of terror plots in the country since the onset of the migrant crisis.

“There were no plots in Germany in 2014, and only two in 2015. In 2016, this increased eightfold,” wrote the Heritage Foundation think tank, in its report.

“There is a straightforward reason for this: In 2015, Germany took in over 1 million refugees and 2016 saw a surge in plots involving refugees.””

    • He is right, and the situation in Turkey is rapidly increasing in threat level. It hasn’t reached the same level as North Korea but it isn’t that far away.

The MB is the enemy within. (Think Cicero.)

It’s infiltrated the highest levels of every government in the West, has embedded intel officers all over the world. The UN and EU are their partners. (That’s Bat Yeor’s conclusion.)

Fears are growing Western holidaymakers will be targeted in terror attacks by depraved terrorists who have travelled back to Trinidad and Tobago from the beaten caliphate.

So much so, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is currently taking measures to prevent fighters from returning to the islands, located southeastern from the United States, into a platform from which terrorist attacks can be organised.

When quizzed over the risk of jihadis returning, Minister of National Security of Trinidad and Tobago at the CARICOM replied: “It is not a matter of yes but when.”

The warning comes amid fears fighters will be able to travel between most of the Caribbean islands without a visa, meaning reaching the Bahamas would leave any terrorist just a step away from Florida…”

“There are a number of serious flaws in police combatting modern slavery cases in the United Kingdom, which often leave perpetrators unpunished and their victims unprotected, a recent report by a British police watchdog has revealed.

“In the UK, today and every day, thousands of men, women and children, the victims of modern slavery and human trafficking are being degraded and dehumanized,” Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) said in its study, adding that police forces are guilty of inconsistency and the identification of victims of such crimes as forced labor, sexual exploitation and domestic servitude.

HMIC investigators also said that police are not taking measures to quickly investigate abuses and warned that many victims may “never see justice.”…”

    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/10/24/one-five-german-resident-foreign-background/

“A newly released report has shown the true extent of the impact of mass migration on Germany as 18.6 million residents, over one-in-five of the total population, now come from foreign backgrounds.

The statistics come from the German Federal Statistical Office’s new yearbook for 2017 which finally shows the extent of demographic change that many Germans have assumed for years. The figures also show a huge divergence between the west of the country and the east with some areas in the west having up to 30 per cent foreign background residents, Die Welt reports.

The region with the most foreign background residents is Bremen with 30.5 per cent of the population coming from a non-German background. The regions in the east are diametrically different, averaging only 6.4 per cent with Thuringia the lowest at just six per cent.

An estimated 4.3 million non-German residents come from European Union countries and live and work under the open borders Schengen agreement. Poles are the largest single EU citizen group with a total of 783,000 Polish citizens living in the country.

The single largest nationality among the 18.6 million foreign residents are those of a Turkish background at 15 per cent of the total.

“Indonesian counterterrorism police said they arrested nine suspected Islamic militants Tuesday, including an alleged bomb maker who eluded capture for five years.

Police spokesman Rikwanto said that Bakri Baroncong was believed to have made the explosives for a failed attempt to kill the governor of South Sulawesi province in 2012. Bakri had avoided capture for more than five years and was tracked down at an Islamic boarding school in the province.

Five suspected militants were arrested in Pekanbaru city in Sumatra and two others in Central Java province.

The ninth suspect, Hendrasti Wijanarko, was captured in East Java province. He was linked to four militants convicted over a plot to bomb a guard-changing ceremony at the presidential palace in Jakarta.

    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/turkey-journalists-trial-ministers-hacked-emails-50677700

“Six journalists appeared in a Turkish court on terror charges Tuesday for reporting on a trove of allegedly hacked emails suggesting misconduct by Turkey’s energy minister.

The defendants are accused of disseminating propaganda for terrorist groups and other terror-related offences after their reports on Berat Albayrak, a son-in-law of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The reports were based on emails reportedly stolen from Albayrak’s personal email account by hackers and made available on WikiLeaks. The government has not confirmed their authenticity.

Speaking outside the Istanbul courthouse, defendant Derya Okatan, managing editor of Etkin News Agency, insisted she and colleagues were acting in the public’s interest and accused the government of trying to hide acts that were “illegitimate, illegal and against the interests of the public.”

Three of the defendants have been in jail for over 10 months. Okatan and two others were released from custody in January pending the outcome of the trial.

More than a hundred journalists have been arrested in Turkey over terror-related charges since last year’s failed coup attempt. Turkey insists the arrests are related to alleged criminal activity and not for journalistic work.

Deniz Yucel, a German journalist for the Die Welt newspaper, was arrested Feb. 14 on terror charges and espionage. This month a Turkish court sentenced a Finnish-Turkish reporter for The Wall Street Journal, Ayla Albayrak, to two years and one month in prison for engaging in propaganda for the outlawed Kurdish rebels.

“The European Union must do more to defend its external borders against migrants, EU chief Donald Tusk said Tuesday, describing Europe as a “cultural community” whose heritage must be preserved.

While the president of the European Council insisted that Europeans are not superior to other peoples, his rhetoric of cultural preservation echoed in some ways the language of populist politicians winning support across Europe with calls to keep migrants from settling on the continent.

“We are a cultural community, which doesn’t mean that we are better or worse — we are simply different from the outside world,” Tusk said in an address to the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France.

“Our openness and tolerance cannot mean walking away from protecting our heritage,” Tusk added. “We have the right and obligation to care for what distinguishes us from other cultures — not in order to be against someone, but to be ourselves. Without a feeling of superiority, but with a feeling of justified pride.”

“Egyptian police arrested 12 suspected militants in a province southwest of the capital, Cairo, the Interior Ministry said on Tuesday, days after a deadly attack on the country’s security forces killed at least 16 policemen.

The ministry statement said the militants were “cadres” of Hasm, which authorities say is a breakaway faction of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood that has targeted security troops in recent years in a series of brazen attacks.

The arrests were made in Fayoum province, 80 kilometers (50 miles) southwest of Cairo, it said. Police also seized 13 weapons and two explosive devices.

The arrests came a few days after authorities officially announced that at least 16 police were killed in a brazen ambush by militants southwest of Cairo. “A mentally ill North Carolina man charged with trying to join al-Qaida-linked fighters in Syria has had his trial delayed until next year.

U.S. District Judge Terrence Boyle rescheduled the trial of Basit Sheikh until February. It had been set to start next week, but attorneys for both sides requested the delay.

Sheikh was among the first Americans arrested as part of the FBI’s effort to find people before they could join terrorist groups fighting in Syria and perhaps later return home full of anti-American ideology. The Cary man was arrested in 2013 as he prepared to board a flight to the Middle East.

Sheikh has schizophrenia and was forcibly medicated starting last year to make him competent to stand trial. Boyle this week ordered an independent psychiatric report of Sheikh’s condition sealed from public disclosure.”

  35. Dismantling The Deep State: From JFK to HRC
Time to release Hillary’s secret Benghazi emails.
    October 24, 2017
    Lloyd Billingsley

As Reuters reports, President Trump, subject to receipt of further information, plans to allow “the opening of long-secret files on the November 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy due for release next week.” This move is long overdue and sets a precedent for further revelations on the deep state.

Few if any events have been more picked over than the Kennedy assassination. The gunman was Lee Harvey Oswald, an American Communist who had lived in the USSR. Seven months earlier, Oswald deployed the same Mannlicher-Carcano rifle in an attempt to kill U.S. general Edwin Walker, a staunch anti-communist.

JFK conspiracy theories drag in just about everybody but the 1963 New York Yankees. As a theory on the left has it, the city of Dallas itself was responsible, along with the entire state of Texas, bristling as it was with Bircher anti-communists. Whatever the new release contains, it is not likely to satisfy the left, which remains in the subjunctive mood. For his part, President Trump can use the release to kick off revelations on more recent events.

For example, the U.S. Department has Hillary’s emails about Benghazi and such but is delaying release of them until 2020. Donald Trump’s Secretary of State Rex Tillerson should give the word to reveal the emails immediately, and in full. This will be a big win for the people, and a loss for the deep state denizens who seek to suppress the truth.

The media’s head spinning antics have become a little too much even by its incoherent standards.

After trying to resume the old “Gold star family” attack on Trump, whose substance is that he doesn’t respect the military, the media pivoted to furiously hurling attacks at General Kelly. Gold star families have impeccable moral authority. Unless they’re Republicans.

A fake news propaganda campaign that began as, “Where’s the respect for the military” came around 180 degrees and turned into, “Damn the generals.”

A cognitive dissonance messaging implosion this bad is truly a work of art.

  38. ‘Soros Plan’: Hungary Slams EU ‘Institutionalisation of Mass Migration’ with New Asylum Rules (breitbart, Oct 24, 2017)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/10/24/soros-plan-orban-eu-attacking-sovereignty-new-asylum-rules/

“Prime minister of Hungary Viktor Orbán blasted the European Parliament for adopting changes to the bloc’s asylum system which the Hungarian government sees as the implementation of the ‘Soros Plan’ to flood the continent with an unlimited number of third-world migrants.

On Friday, the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice, and Home Affairs (LIBE) adopted a report on the amendment of the Dublin Agreement, which regulates the EU’s Common Asylum System, which would see all member states forced to accept asylum seekers against the will of their people and for funds to be withheld from nations that refuse to comply.

“The musket is not only primed but loaded: in Europe in the future a permanent and mandatory migrant relocation quota mechanism will be established, with no upper limit on numbers: the mandatory relocation quota,” Mr. Orbán told press.

“It is true that we are waist-deep in the struggle to protect this slice of our national sovereignty, but so far we have succeeded, because until now we have been the ones who decide who can live on Hungarian territory,” Mr. Orbán said, “but the attack on our sovereignty that the European Parliament has now launched is fiercer than any previous one.”

The raft of proposals would see:

    Scrapping the rule that the first country of safe arrival is responsible for asylum seekers who reach its borders;

    Asylum seekers’ preference would be taken into consideration with migrants being able to choose between four countries which, at that time, had received the fewest number of asylum seekers;

    Faster family reunification;

    Applicants will have the “option to register as a group” of up to 30 on arrival in Europe;

“All member states must participate and share responsibility for asylum seekers”; and

“Member states refusing to accept relocation of applicants… would face limits on their access to EU funds”.

Members of European Parliament (MEPs) from centre-right EPP, socialist S&D, liberal Alde, Greens/EFA, and the far-left GUE/NGL voted 43-16 in favour.

The Council of the European Union has yet to approve the amendments, and the plenary will be asked to formally confirm the decision by LIBE to enter into negotiations during its November session in Strasbourg.

Parliament’s lead MEP on the revision, Cecilia Wikström (ALDE, Sweden) said the new asylum system would be “based on solidarity, with clear rules and incentives to follow them, both for the asylum seekers and for all member states”.

Hungarian government spokesman Zoltán Kovács told Kossuth Radio that the Hungarian government intends to oppose the draft reforms, saying it amounts to the “institutionalisation of migration and the opening up of the European Union’s external borders”.

“The LIBE is doing — as it did with its decision on Thursday — nothing other than what we call the Soros plan,” Kovács said, referring to U.S. open borders activist and financier George Soros. He also claimed that “Soros’s people” are present in the LIBE.

Robustly defending his country, Orbán said: “While this government is in power and I am at its head, there will be no kind of relocation or quota in Hungary.””
