    • His skiing accident always reminds me of Sonny Bono´s skiing accident. (January 5, 1998). There were no witnesses, the autopsy report was not released to the public, and Bono had shown himself to be something of a thorn in the side of official Washington.

  5. A radical Muslim cleric who was convicted of stirring up racial hatred in Britain and deported to Jamaica was indicted Friday in New York on charges of recruiting would-be terrorists.
    Sheikh Abdullah el-Faisal was arrested in Jamaica.
    Jamaica’s Ministry of National Security said that el-Faisal was arrested in the capital of Kingston and taken to his house in the nearby parish of St. Catherine, where police executed a search warrant. Authorities in Jamaica said el-Faisal is scheduled to appear later in court, although they did not provide a date. He is expected to be extradited to New York after his court appearance in Jamaica.
    El-Faisal was arrested after a monthslong sting carried out by an undercover New York Police Department officer who communicated with him by email, text and video chat.

  6. Durham Regional Police have dropped an assault charge against a man accused of a Whitby hate crime earlier this month, after the victim ­— who claimed he was punched after the man made several anti-Muslim remarks — admitted “exaggerating the incident.”

    The 22-year-old who brought the complaint forward to police was cautioned for mischief and obstructing police, investigators said in a press release Friday.

      Turkey’s main opposition leader on Saturday begins hosting a four day “justice congress” in a bid to keep up the momentum from the success of a month-long foot march protesting ag alleged injustices under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

      Kemal Kilicdaroglu, head of the secular Republican People’s Party (CHP), is holding the congress at an open-air site in the northwestern province of Canakkale, with sessions each day focusing on different rights violations in Turkey.

      With politics heating up in Turkey even two years before the next elections, Erdogan will on Saturday host a mass rally at the opposite end of the country marking the anniversary of the 1071 Battle of Malazgirt where pre-Ottoman tribes defeated the Byzantines.

      The pick of the region for the CHP congress is also significant as it was the site of the World War I Battle of Gallipoli where the Ottoman army successfully repelled Allied forces.

    • Syria is a client state of Russia, it remains to be seen how much of Syria Iran will be given.

          • Since South Korea is saying they are prepping for another nuclear test you might get you wish. I doubt a nuke will be used early on in the fighting but this may, probably will later on in the festivities. The war will have to last long enough for nuclear weapons to become politically acceptable to majority of the voters.

    The irony that industrially powerful Germany has descended by (national rankings of) over THIRTY places in terms of being a “safe tourist destination” exemplifies the degree to which this once-robust economy has fallen victim to the “borderless” policies of its “Wir schaffen das” (previously Communist) “leader”, Angela “We can do it!” Merkel.

    Nothing will change until Merkel experiences severe physical pain every time that she places the welfare of predatory invaders before the quality-of-life that indigenous Germans experience.

  12. September 16th, 1992. That was the day, Perfectchild, when George Soros exploited the Bank of England’s reluctance to allow it’s currency to float to true value against European currencies. By selling short the pound sterling and knowing the BOE’s reluctance to raise interest rates, Soros caught them. He caught them not because he wanted to teach the English a lesson for their own good, and not because he is an altruist or Marxist or a Fascist and not because he is some sort of Jewish-Hungarian evil genius–all of which may or may not be true–but rather simply because he could. In the realm of his real training and education, combined with balls the size of moons, he placed an educated bet. The bet was that politicians will stubbornly peg a currency for political reasons no matter their ideological stripe. We all know it. Is the Canadian dollar truly worth only 3/4 of an American dollar, for example, or is this simply a peg to promote exports and be popular politically? For all their stuffy, pseudo-independent doublespeak, central banks are political instruments, full stop.

    It was probably a one-off, otherwise he would have done it again since then. But now that the CB’s have seen it once they’re wary. But you never know…they can be caught somewhere. I’m sure he has been looking ever since.

    My point is that whatever twisted ideology Soros may follow, it has nothing to do with the Man Who Broke the Bank of England. That man was just a good trader. The other guy tries to manipulate people for sport. It is all sport once you no longer worry about the roof over your head. The world is his hole to f#*k in, so to speak, and pardon. But for him to be the person you say he is, he must have a substantial conscience and moral awareness, which he does not as evidenced by his treatment of his homeland.

    My view that the world economy marches toward dramatic change because world reserve currency status is finite for every currency and, coincidentally, is ready now for change, is well worn and not necessarily interesting. The situation also has a lot to do with debt and a diminishing empire much as when Great Britain lost hers. The attached article mentions Soros about a third of the way in. I sure don’t understand all of it but understanding only a fraction makes it worthwhile. Money is the only force greater than Islam and Marxism, combined. And the only thing in the world less sentimental than money, perhaps, is George Soros.

    I’m going to attempt something dangerous here.

    It’s usually not a good idea to follow up a rousing pep talk that stands powerfully on its own with commentary that may seem critical, at least to some people.

    But (a) James Mattis doesn’t need polemical mercy from anyone, certainly not me; and (b) it’s really, really important right now to re-tune the ears of Americans to what we ought to be thinking and hearing.

    So, to set the stage for danger, here’s the video of Mattis that has gone viral in the last couple of days. He’s visiting troops in the Middle East, and on encountering a group of them during a base walk-around, he gives them an impromptu pep talk.

    Colonel William Crawford, who fought valiantly in the American Revolutionary War, met a ghastly end. He was tortured and burned at the stake by American Indians in retaliation for a massacre that, while execrable, was not ordered or led by Crawford.

    Now, 235 years later, the colonel has been decapitated. At least his statue has. The Bucyrus Telegraph-Forum reports that the statue, which occupied a niche outside the Crawford County Courthouse, was vandalized. When employees at the courthouse arrived Friday morning, the found the statue was missing its head.

    “Myanmar’s government and advocates for the country’s Muslim Rohingya ethnic minority traded charges Sunday of killing civilians, burning down buildings and planting land mines, as clashes that began last week when insurgents launched attacks against police posts continued.

    An announcement posted online by the office of the country’s leader, State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, said the death toll from the violence that started Thursday night had reached 96, mostly alleged Rohingya attackers but also 12 security personnel. The announcement was the first by the government to list civilians among the dead — six people identified as Hindu said to have been killed by the insurgents.

    Myanmar is overwhelmingly Buddhist, but about 1 million Rohingya live in the northern part of Rakhine, the western state where the violence is taking place.

    Advocates for the Rohingya suggest many more civilians have died in army attacks on villages, but they have not given a total. They also say the attacks have caused villagers to flee to the mountains for shelter or to try to cross the border into Bangladesh.

    “The Russian General Staff revealed the means of warfare used by terrorists in Syria, which include so-called “Kamikaze” drones. Military expert Boris Rozhin told Radio Sputnik that militants are using not only “trophy” weapons, but also even modern military equipment.

    Terrorists in Syria are using the newest weapons, drones, means of electronic warfare and toxic substances, the chief of the Russian General Staff Main Intelligence Directorate said on Friday, citing the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) equipped with explosive devices in Raqqa during the clashes between Daesh and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces.

    “Terrorists have started using in the Syrian conflict the latest armaments, means of intelligence and electronic warfare, homemade toxic substances. Unmanned aerial devices are widely used in reconnaissance and attack equipment,” Col. Gen. Igor Korobov said at the Army-2017 International Military-Technical Forum.

    Meanwhile, head of the Russian General Staff’s Office for the Development of UAVs Maj. Gen. Alexander Novikov said that terrorist groups in Syria are increasingly using self-made “Kamikaze” drones to drop improvised explosive devices and mortar shells.

    “Currently, for a relatively small amount one can purchase lightweight unmanned aerial vehicles or components to manufacture them. After a small modification they can not only conduct aerial reconnaissance, but [can] also be used to carry out strikes. In Syria, there have been numerous cases of terrorists using ‘Kamikaze’ drones, dropping improvised explosive devices, and mortar shells from UAVs,” he said, adding that the number of drones used by terrorists continues to grow.

    Radio Sputnik discussed the issue with expert of military-political journalism Boris Rozhin.

    “In the province of Idlib, al-Nusra Front terrorists boosted their positions. They squeezed out a significant part of the pro-Turkish [Syrian] rebels, seized the provincial capital; and now a large number of militant groups in Idlib are led by them. But they [al-Nusra Front terrorists] do not completely control the [Idlib] province. This is sort of an internal fighting, which does not exclude the struggle against [Syrian President Bashar] Assad, which al-Nusra Front names as its main goal. As for weapons, they [the terrorists] have different weapons seized in various battles, as well as more modern arms, ie drones, which got in Syria mainly through covert channels to arm terrorists,” Rozhin told Radio Sputnik.

    When commenting on the “Kamikaze” drones, the expert said that terrorists could use them not only for reconnaissance.

    “It’s clear that they [self-made drones] are inferior to full-fledged army drones, but they are suitable both for reconnaissance, fire adjustment and for bomb-dropping, when drones are armed with grenades, mines, and then dropped on the enemy. This tactic was worked out in [Iraqi] Mosul, so in addition to the standard warfare means, terrorists try to use some more modern technologies, fitting them up to their own needs,” the military expert said.

    The head of the Russian General Staff’s Office for the Development of UAVs said earlier that Russia had deployed defense systems to be used against drones.

    “We have developed a system, including subsystems of detection, warnings of flights of unmanned aerial vehicles, and jamming and hard-kill measures,” Novikov said.

    He noted that subsystems comprised missile defense means, radioelectronic combat (REC) systems and aerial surveillance equipment. Novikov added that special units eliminated drones by using small weapons.”

  23. Italy: Thousands march through Rome in defence of evicted migrants

    Several thousand protesters, with asylum-seekers and migrants among them, marched through central Rome to protest the eviction of around 100 refugees from a building they had occupied for four years, Saturday.

    With banners reading “Protect people not borders,” placards condemning the conflation between ‘refugees’ and terrorists’ and megaphones repeating pro-refugee slogans, the peaceful march carried on through the streets of Rome amid heavy police presence.

    On August 19 security forces cleared the Palazzo Curtatone building near the Independence Square, which had been occupied by migrants, reportedly mostly from Eritrea and Ethiopia, since October 2013. Around 500 police officers were involved in the evacuation operation, which since sparked a wave of protests and clashes between migrants and police.

  33. Pakistan: Tear gas prevents ‘Death to America’ rally reaching US Consulate

    Riot police prevented an anti-US rally from marching to the US Consulate in Karachi, Sunday. Tear gas was deployed and police baton-charged the protesters. Later, talks were held at which demonstrators reportedly agreed to disperse.

    The protesters were marching to demonstrate against recent remarks by US President Donald Trump in which he accused Pakistan of harbouring terrorists.

    The participants of the rally reportedly pelted stones at police and chanted anti-US slogans, including ‘Death to America.’

    The Trump Administration still hasn’t designated the Muslim Brotherhood as a Foreign Terrorist Organization as it was expected to do. Designation falls under the purview of Secretary of State Tillerson, who has chosen the Muslim Brotherhood and its backers in Qatar and Turkey over their Arab rivals.

    Tillerson recently signaled his opposition to designating the Muslim Brotherhood in mid-June. He only has negative things to say about the idea.

    His main point is that the Brotherhood’s political parties have representatives in governments like those in Bahrain and Turkey. That is irrelevant. If it was such a problem, Bahrain itself wouldn’t have banned the Brotherhood and the U.S. wouldn’t be dealing with the Lebanese government that has Hezbollah in it, which is designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization.

    Tillerson also repeated the “non-violent” and “moderate” Muslim Brotherhood propaganda. He claimed that the Brotherhood’s political parties in governments “have become so by renouncing violence and terrorism.” That was false when the Obama Administration said it, and it is false now.

    On Saturday, Qatar rejected a list of 13 demands put to it by Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt. Qatar is accused of supporting terrorism, which it denies, despite ample evidence that they are among the world’s foremost supporters of terrorism. They gave Qatar a deadline of ten days to accede to the demands.

    Now U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has taken it upon himself to interfere instead of allowing the Arab countries to pressure Qatar to clean house.

    Tillerson called for a de-escalation of the crisis, saying “Qatar has begun its careful review and consideration of a series of requests presented by Bahrain, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and UAE. While some of the elements will be very difficult for Qatar to meet, there are significant areas which provide a basis for ongoing dialogue leading to resolution.”

    The Qatari foreign minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, even cited Tillerson’s comments in his justification for rejecting the demands, “The U.S. secretary of state recently called upon the blockading nations to produce a list of grievances that was ‘reasonable and actionable,’” he said, going on to say that the list was not reasonable.

    Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said on Sunday former White House aide Sebastian Gorka was “completely wrong” to criticize the president’s Afghanistan speech because there was no mention of “radical Islam.”

    “It shows a lack of understanding of the president’s broader policy when it comes to protecting Americans at home and abroad from all acts of terrorism,” Tillerson told Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday.”

    “Terrorism has manifested itself in many types of organizations. The president has charged us to develop policies and tactics both diplomatically and militarily to attack terrorism in its many forms, wherever it exists in the world, and wherever it might present a threat to the homeland or Americans anywhere. This means that we need to develop techniques that are global in their nature.”

    Tillerson was responding to a line from Gorka’s resignation letter, in which he said, “The fact that those who drafted and approved the speech removed any mention of Radical Islam or radical Islamic terrorism proves that a crucial element of your presidential campaign has been lost.”

    The White House announced Gorka’s departure on Friday evening, just one week after his ally, Stephen Bannon, left his post as White House chief strategist.

Sadly, Oregon does not see it that way! Oregon lawmakers passed a bill that allows them to confiscate the guns from its owners, without their knowledge.

Lawyers Jared and Elizabeth Beck have long cited deep corruption of the judicial system as a potential reason for the suit’s dismissal. The ruling comes as a blow to many former Bernie Sanders supporters who had hoped that the suit would address what many view as deeply seated corruption in the Democratic party establishment.

    In his ruling, Judge Zloch wrote that the plaintiffs had failed to prove their injury, calling it “too diffuse” for Federal court. Despite the dismissal, Zloch did state that the court assumed the basic claim made by the plaintiffs to have been true; that the DNC acted against Bernie Sanders and in favor of Hillary Clinton despite outward claims of neutrality.

  45. The University of Colorado-Colorado Springs approved of someone posting a flyer on the school’s campus that says veterans should be “banned” from four-year colleges and universities.

    The flyer is the first issue in a newsletter series that is titled “Social Justice Collective Weekly.” A spokesman for UCCS said the newsletter is not affiliated with the university and that any student can post flyers on bulletin boards around campus. But, as KKTV-TV noted, the school does have to approve any flyers that are posted around the campus. Now, in light of the fact that campus officials approved the flyer, the school is trying to distance itself from the message in the flyers.

    An anonymous donor gave $1 million to the New York Times to fund subscriptions for public school students.

    The paper’s “sponsor a subscription program” has received more than 15,500 donations and gave 1.3 million students access to the Times’s website, the newspaper said in a statement Thursday.

    The Times plans to use this new influx of donations to expand the program to provide a series of educational webinars on subjects ranging from news literacy to the Supreme Court.

    President Donald Trump has continuously railed against the Times for what he says is “fake news,” describing the newspaper as “the enemy of the American people.”
