Stick with this one. It starts a little dry but its worth it.

It has been a confused and imploding news week. there is, seemingly, a full frontal assault on classical liberals, using the usual techniques of straw man, putting words in your adversary’s mouth and then arguing not with what he said or meant, but with what you claim he does, and ad-hominem, the discrediting of the opponent by calling into question their personal character.

That would run something like this in the absurd extreme: “I say the sun rises in the East and sets in the West.”

“Well sir! You are known to take a shot of brandy with lunch every day and twice on Saturday! So I will not take your advice on astronomical observations!”.

The interesting thing is, both methods can be used simultaneously just by calling someone a Nazi or “far ring wing” and now even “alt-right”.

You are making claims about what they say and believe and simultaneously calling them names which discredit them, even unto their basic rights. The right even, to be.

The common enemy of both the Nazi and the postmodernist/communist/socialist or leftist is the classical liberal. The Jefferson liberal. The person who believes in the rights of the individual, the concept of free will, rule of law and reason as defined by Greek thought. And so the postmodernist calls the classical-liberal, a Nazi, and the Nazi calls the classical-liberal a communist.

To be a liberal is not in the middle. It is at one end of a polemic and Nazis and postmodernists are together at the other end. It is pretty much like Sunnis and Shias. There is no worthy distinction between them to a non muslim. And to someone who believes in individual rights, the distinction between Nazis and communists is nil. Except communists killed more people to try and create a working communist state, and are more authoritarian even than even Nazis.

The well planned and well thought out assault, both by those conscious of the postmodern revolution now underway, and the useful idiots who assist it without understanding it, is now underway.

In places, it looks like the Maoist Cultural Revolution. In others it will be as Jordan Peterson explained. The revenge of the pub and cafe dweller that can use the ‘authority’ he suddenly has to get revenge on those he knows who live better than s/he because they worked all their lives. They can rat them out for ideological reasons and feel morally superior to those who produced wealth and value for the first time, while having done nothing at all.

    • I’ve been in touch with many friends in Spain and, thank G-d, they’re okay.

      My closest friends spend August in Cadaques and elsewhere in Girona. One, a top Barcelona surgeon, already drove back to the city.
      They’re wicked understaffed in August (as everywhere). He studied here: he got the message that he’s got trauma docs on standby here. He gives the word, they’re on the next plane.

      I think most of the victims are tourists. So sad, they just throng Las Ramblas on days like this. Poor souls, may G-d avenge their blood.

    For a Jew there’s a difference.

    An Israeli put it this way today:
    You can be a violent thug without being a Nazi or a Fascist. You can be a Nazi or a Fascist without being a violent thug. What brands you a Nazi, a racist or a Fascist is what ideology you subscribe to, not your behavior on the streets of Ferguson or Paris.

    Jews around the world have more to fear from Nazis than from leftists. Nazis wants to KILL Jews, where ever they are, leftists only dream of “returning” Israel to its “rightful owners”.

    So, the worst case for a leftist threat is that Jews must leave Israel and “go back” to Europe.

    The worst case for a rightist threat is gas chambers.

    Communists deny the human soul. That’s bad enough for people of faith, but what’s worse is the Left is bringing in Islam. And Islam is just as much of an existential threat to Jews as Nazism.

    For Muslims Jews are uniquely evil, subhuman “sons of apes and pigs”. The Koran has genocidal passages more compelling than Mein Kampf, where the very rocks and trees conspire to rid the earth of our contamination.

    Right now as you say, Eeyore, it’s not an ideological contest. It’s violent thugs set upon us to destroy our liberal Western society. It’s a threat to all of us. Let’s be careful to unite around the values we share.
