  2. Pressure from above: German journalist who exposed govt instruction in media coverage faces backlash (RT, Aug 11, 2017)
    https://www.rt.com/news/399260-german-reporter-govt-pressure-coverage/

“Rejected contributions, boycott calls and a public letter refuting her words were some of the tactics freelance reporter Claudia Zimmerman faced after exposing her employer, German public broadcaster WDR, for sticking to pro-government narrative on migrant crisis.

Speaking to RT Deutsch, Zimmerman said she fell out of grace with the bosses of WRD, which is part of the ARD group of Germany’s regional public-service broadcasters, after she revealed the pressure on the employees to refrain from criticism of German Chancellor’s Angela Merkel controversial “open door” policy towards refugees.

“We are a public broadcaster, we are paid with tax money and that means we interpret the government’s view and not that of the opposition,” Zimmerman said in an interview to Dutch radio station L1 Limburg in January 2016, adding that it was expected from WRD to cover Merkel’s migrant policy “in a more positive way.”

“There are various committees that determine the program policies, which instructed the editors to support the Merkel government policy,” she said.

‘I stand by what I said on migrant coverage’

The interview went on air on the heels of New Year’s Eve sexual assaults in Cologne that were initially blamed on asylum seekers of North African and Middle Eastern origin. The violent attacks sparked outrage with the German public and opposition, highlighting the growing dismay with the “welcoming” approach, personally propelled by Merkel.

After Zimmerman’s insight into the WRD’s story selection started making rounds in German and international media, she was contacted by the broadcaster which sought to “minimize the damage” to its reputation. Although Zimmerman agreed and apologized, saying that she was “talking nonsense” while being “under pressure of live broadcast”, she told RT Deutsch that her repentance refers only to her failure to clarify the functions of Germany’s Broadcasting Council during the interview.

As for the essence of her message, Zimmerman says she stands completely by her words.

“In the media, not only in WDR, Merkel’s migrant policy received a very strong backing by journalists. Some journalists, including me, tried to offer more critical topics, but they weren’t approved,” she said.

“I haven’t apologized for my actual words. I have never disavowed them and I don’t disavow them now,” she said, noting that contrary to reports by some media, she has never mentioned receiving any “written instructions” from the government.

“It would have been too obvious and would have sparked a protest. The thing is, as I has already said before, pressure comes from above. Unfavorable topics are simply not greenlighted. So a journalist does not have even a chance to offer such a topic,” she said.

    ‘Colleagues advised to boycott’

While WDR publicly vowed not to sack Zimmerman and followed through with its promise up to this moment, many of her contributions have been since turned down. She noticed that some of her rejected topics were handed to other WRD journalists.

“I even complained about it,” Zimmerman said, noting that the topics she had covered for years, completely unrelated to politics, like international art fairs, suddenly changed hands.

Moreover, the journalist noted that she has been silently ostracized by WDR, saying that the broadcaster recommended her colleagues to steer clear of her and sign a public letter praising the company’s integrity and denouncing her remarks.

“The funniest part in this story was that the half of all employees did not sign this letter. There was a heated internal discussion among the employees,” Zimmerman said, adding that despite the majority refused to put down their signatures, some media outlets portrayed it as through it was a unanimous condemnation.

“I know that they, in WRD, asked that employees don’t have any contact with me, don’t talk to me. I was told so,” she said, adding that some of her colleagues have continued to back her in private while having to keep a distance in public.

‘One-sided coverage on Russia & Syria’

Speaking on instances of biased coverage in German media in general, Zimmerman said she believes the media are telling only one side of the story when covering Russia-related topics and its reunification with Crimea, in particular.

“I would like the coverage of this issue to be far more substantial and balanced,” she said.

The same could be observed in the way the German media is handling the Syrian conflict, Zimmerman said. She spoke about a colleague who last year proposed to make a story about the other side of Syria’s life, not scarred by the war.

“She wanted to tell about a beautiful Syria. About its beauty, about the way they celebrate holidays and that the war is not everywhere,” Zimmerman said, adding that her colleague was discouraged by the rejection.

“It means they needed only war reports on Syria, not beautiful images. I believe it is also a kind of a one-sided coverage.””

  3. Posted again just because it’s so hilarious:

Bwahahahahaha. BEST of all is that SF lawmkers will be forced to decide whether negligent millionaires deserve a break or be held accountable for a glaring lack of due diligence for NOT noticing that THREE DECADES of tax payments were going to a defunct accountant’s office.

Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch. Sadly, it doesn’t appear that there are sufficiently large expanses that would allow building a few McMansions in the immediate vicinity. My own advice is to set up a toll gate and charge $50 for every entrance and exit. Again, it couldn’t happen to a nicer buncha SOBs.

  4. Last night I bit my tongue off. I shall not speak for 10 days. My German MOMMY-IN-LAW turned Canadian turned lesbian turned Post Modernist kindly educated my 14-year old son on his white male privilege status. Fortunately, my efforts at deconstructing the Post-Modern narratives aimed at my kids extra-domus are bearing fruit. Her grandmotherly wisdom deflected like a bouncy old shitball off a brick wall. The evils of the Patriarchy pervade all but those elements, such as feminism, that strive to defeat the Patriarchy. In other words, the Patriarchy is like an evil god who is responsible for all that is bad, and even though he created the world in seven days he could not have possibly created the kind of freedom that gave birth to Postmodernism. So cherry pick your lies, soft-hearted lefties. The same but worse stretch goes to those who say the Jews run the world: ok, I’ll bite, but how’s that going, anyway? Nice mansion you’ve got there, friend.

    Cherry pickers all.

    • “Last night I bit my tongue off. I shall not speak for 10 days. My German MOMMY-IN-LAW turned Canadian turned lesbian turned Post Modernist kindly educated my 14-year old son on his white male privilege status.”

Well done for providing your son with counter arguments.

I do not allow sexual predators around children. They demoralize because they can’t live with themselves. Creating victims so that they can be their rescuers. Peace where there is no peace.
Muslims/Socialists/Sexsquirrels. Only then can they feed. Why do you have one around? Why take the risk?

      • PC, good questions for sure.

By marriage my family attained a Muslim, a Jew, and a lesbian. To answer your question, I don’t tolerate it. Each day I ask my children about their day, and each day I must offset the narratives they are exposed to with common sense, and the learning I garner through my reading. They are already bulletproof, practically. They all are learning very quickly all that we are learning, but at an age-appropriate rate and level. It ain’t easy, though.

Vlad knows quite well the cost of my sending a well-informed son into the public school system. Each day is a battle to the extent that home schooling is now a serious consideration.

As for the grandmother, she lives 4000 miles away. She hasn’t the daily luxury of eroding what I teach. The children’s bullet-proof vests are getting thicker by the day. The Muslim is a weak man and a rare site nowadays. The Jew, unfortunately, lives too far away. He is a good man, a good doctor, and would fit here like hand in glove.

I chose none of it, and perhaps it is a blessing in disguise, for I have girded for the enemy within and without. My children are as ready as they can be, I hope, which is more than I can say for others.

Where we live we swim in a sea of Muslims, socialists and sexsquirrels. Where to go…where to go…?

        • Same here, but in Germany – kids in French School.
Can´t tell you how many conversations I have had with teachers, principals, doctors about the 5 pillars, the sex education/gender confusion, vaccines, mama merkel´s refugee catastrophe and sustainable development/climate change brainwashing.

My children were vocal about supporting Trump and got bullied – but we aren´t snowflakes. My kids were ready for every liberal narrative they threw at them. (Trump´s a racist, you´re a racist BS)

It´s exhausting, but worth it. My relatives don´t dare entering such conversation with me or try influencing my kids.

  7. BOMBSHELL POLL: Seven in 10 Britons now support hard Brexit according to major survey (express, Aug 11, 2017)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/839888/Brexit-news-most-Britons-support-clean-break-EU-major-survey

“SEVEN in 10 Britons now support Theresa May’s plans for a hard Brexit which includes leaving the Single Market and taking back control of immigration, a bombshell poll finds today.

A shock survey of more than 20,000 ordinary voters found overwhelming support amongst both Leavers and Remainers for the PM’s strategy of securing a clean break with the EU.

It finds that two-thirds of people would rather quit with no deal at all than settle for a soft Brexit which would see the UK stay in the Single Market and continue accepting free movement.

The stunning research, carried out by academics at the London School of Economics and Oxford University, is the most comprehensively polling exercise of its type since the referendum.

Rather than being asked simply whether they support EU membership or not, respondents were instead grilled over a series of conditions imposed on Britain as a result of being in the bloc.

It shows that neither Leavers nor Remainers support the continuation of free movement after Brexit, with most people who voted to stay in the EU still backing tougher border controls.

Similarly Remainers have no desire to see Britain continue to subject itself to the European Court of Justice (ECJ) once we have left, with consensus on both sides that the UK should simply adopt the EU laws it thinks is sensible.

And people who voted to Remain in the EU are shown to be just as angry about the bloc’s “extortionate” Brexit bill demands as Leavers. Both sides strongly support a position of making no payment at all.

In a similar vein pro-EU voters do not want to see Britain continue to pay vast sums into Brussels coffers for continued “access” to the bloc, with most saying such contributions should be capped at £1 billion a year….”

“THE EU army is one step closer closer after a senior European Union chief called for the creation of Euro-wide military academy along the lines of Sandhurst.

Vice President of the European Parliament Alexander Graf Lambsdorff said he wanted to see more cross-country military training in the bloc.

Speaking to the Neue Osnabrücker newspaper the 50-year-old said: “So far in the European defence policy there is little co-operation, also because the acting people do not know each other.

“That is why we need a college at the European level for military staff training, where every young major, who is chosen for higher leadership positions, is compulsorily trained for six months with other officers from European armed forces.”…”

  9. Striking unions left mountains of rubbish on UK streets – now they are giant ‘RAT HOTELS’ (express, Aug 11, 2017)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/839742/Birmingham-city-striking-unions-council-rat-crisis-bin-men-strike-sky-news

“HEAPS of rubbish – dubbed “rat hotels” have built up on Birmingham’s streets despite the council promising to clear every part of the city.

Birmingham City Council is struggling to deal with the amount of rubbish which has taken over streets because of binmen strike action.

Angry locals argue that not enough rubbish has been cleared and have branded the pile up as “disgusting”.

Javed Iqbal, of the Alum Rock Community Forum, told Sky News: “It is disgusting, dangerous and we won’t stand for it any longer.

“People are taking rubbish to the tips themselves but it isn’t enough – it stinks.

“The council and the unions are as bad as each other. It has to be sorted out.”

In the footage, huge rats can be seen emerging in the piles of rubbish as the bin crisis becomes a huge public health hazard.

Some areas have been hit hardest by the strike action and not had their bins collected for up to six weeks.

The strikes are part of a long running dispute between local binmen and Birmingham City Council over cut and the changes to the service.

As Mr Iqbal showed the broadcaster the rubbish, he said: “I have got a mask on now and this is making me sick….”

More than 3,500 American and Japanese troops kicked off a weeks-long joint military exercise Thursday against the backdrop of an increasingly belligerent North Korean regime.

The exercise, known as Northern Viper 17, will take place on Hokkaido — Japan’s northern-most main island — and will last until Aug. 28.

According to the U.S. Pacific Command, the drill will include 500 Marines and 18 aircraft operating out of the 35th Fighter Wing at Misawa Air Base, on the northern tip of the island of Honshu.

“We are improving our readiness not only in the air, but as a logistical support team,” Col. R. Scott Jobe, the 35th Fighter Wing commander, said in a statement. “We are in a prime location for contingency purposes and this exercise will only build upon our readiness in the case a real-world scenario occurs.”

“A court in southern Germany has convicted three Syrian men over the drowning deaths of 13 migrants off the coast of Greece in September 2015.

Prosecutors accused the men of “professional smuggling of people resulting in death.”

The court in Traunstein near the Austrian border on Friday sentenced the 27-year-old main defendant to four years in prison for organizing the boat that was to take Syrian refugees from Turkey to the island of Lesbos.

The boat struck a freighter shortly before reaching shore, killing 13 people. Two children are still missing.

Judges sentenced the man who drove the boat to two years in prison. A third man, who acted as a liaison for families, received a two-year suspended sentence.

The three defendants had come to Germany as refugees themselves.”

“U.S.-backed Syrian fighters advancing from eastern and western parts of the northern city of Raqqa have linked up for the first time in weeks after launching their offensive against Islamic State group fighters there.

The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces launched a wide offensive to capture IS’s de facto capital of Raqqa on June 6. Since then, SDF fighters have captured half the city under the cover of U.S.-backed coalition airstrikes.

U.S. Army Col. Ryan Dillon tweeted that SDF forces have linked up “East-West axes” in Raqqa and are continuing to pressure IS.

“The U.S. military conducted offensive airstrikes in Somalia on Thursday against fighters with al-Shabab, an affiliate of al-Qaeda.

No details were provided by U.S. Africa Command as to the targets of the airstrikes, which were the fourth offensive airstrikes carried out in Somalia since President Trump authorized such actions in March. Previously, only self-defense airstrikes could be carried out in Somalia in support of American advisers and Somali troops.

“On August 10, the Department of Defense conducted two kinetic strikes against al-Shabaab militants,” said a statement from U.S. Africa Command. “The operation occurred near the Banadir region in southern Somalia.” Banadir is the administrative region surrounding the Somali capital of Mogadishu.

“This strike was conducted within the parameters of the proposal approved by the President in March 2017, which allows the U.S. Department of Defense to conduct lethal action against al-Shabaab within a geographically-defined area of active hostilities in support of partner forces in Somalia,” the statement said. “We will continue to assess the results of the operation and will provide additional information as appropriate.”

Typically, airstrikes in Somalia are carried out by unmanned drones.”

    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/police-drive-shooting-kills-pakistani-police-officers-49152185

“Gunmen riding on a motorcycle opened fire on a vehicle carrying a senior Pakistani police officer in the southern city of Karachi on Friday, killing him and his guard before fleeing the scene.

Hours later, a powerful bomb struck in a remote northwestern tribal region, killing three people and wounding 25, according to another official.

According to Zulfiqar Larik, deputy inspector general of police, no one claimed responsibility for the drive-by shooting in Karachi, the capital of southern Sindh province. Local militants have often targeted security forces in Karachi.

Pakistan’s largest city, Karachi is located on the Arabian Sea and is also considered a hiding place for Pakistani Taliban and other militants groups.

The bombing in the northwestern tribal region bordering Afghanistan took place in the small town of Bajour, in Char Mang district, according to Aslam Khan, a government official in the area.

Khan told The Associated Press that at least 25 people were wounded in the explosion.

The Bajour tribal region is an unsettled area where the Taliban have carried out numerous attacks.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the explosion, but initial reports said it was remotely detonated. Details were scarce because of the remoteness of the area, Khan added.”

  16. North Korea missile crisis seen pushing South Korea to gun up

SEOUL (Reuters) – The escalating threat arising from nuclear-armed North Korea’s recent series of missile tests is prompting South Korea to beef up its military muscle and experts warn it could spur an arms buildup elsewhere in Northeast Asia.

South Korea and Japan are accustomed to the North’s frequent threats to attack. But the war of words between Washington and Pyongyang has raised fears of a sudden clash along the world’s most militarised border dividing the two Koreas, which might quickly escalate to all-out war.

After North Korea’s second test of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on July 28, South Korean President Moon Jae-in ordered a speedy deployment of the controversial U.S. THAAD anti-missile defense system, reversing his earlier decision to postpone it pending an environmental review.

    • I could never understand why we destroyed all the Pershing II battle field missiles; why didn’t we just bring them back to the US and store them away? They could sure use them in SK.

      • We destroyed them because the Dem leaders wanted to destroy all US missiles but were willing to stop with the Pershing.

Either way Kim has made his brag about the 15th and is pretty much locked in to ether fire the missiles of face the very real possibility of a coup when he is seen weak. I will do my best to keep up on what is happening on the 15th but have to go to the VA for a coumidan level check.

Chinese paper says China should stay neutral if North Korea attacks first

BEDMINSTER, N.J./BEIJING (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump issued a new threat to North Korea on Friday, saying the U.S. military was “locked and loaded” as Pyongyang accused him of driving the Korean Peninsula to the brink of nuclear war.

Trump kept up the war of words on Twitter shortly after the North Korean state news agency, KCNA, put out a statement blaming him for the escalated tensions.

“Trump is driving the situation on the Korean peninsula to the brink of a nuclear war, making such outcries as ‘the U.S. will not rule out a war against the DPRK,'” KCNA said.

An influential Chinese newspaper says the country should remain neutral if North Korea launches an attack near U.S. soil.

The comment comes from the Global Times, which is owned by the Communist party and is considered by many to be the “semi-official” voice of the government.

The editorial went on to say the country would intervene if the United Dtates attacked North Korea first.

China has taken a harder-line on the North in recent months, but still advocates for de-escalation talks.

      • India’s military steps up operational readiness on China border

NEW DELHI (Reuters) – India’s military has increased operational readiness along the eastern Indian border with China, sources said, as neither side shows any sign of backing off from a face-off in a remote Himalayan region near their disputed frontier.

Indian and Chinese troops have been embroiled in the seven-week confrontation on the Doklam plateau, claimed by both China and India’s tiny ally, Bhutan.

The sources, who were briefed on the deployment, said they did not expect the tensions, involving about 300 soldiers on each side standing a few hundred feet apart, to escalate into a conflict between the nuclear-armed neighbors, who fought a brief but bloody border war in 1962.

But the military alert level had been raised as a matter of caution, two sources in New Delhi and in the eastern state of Sikkim told Reuters on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.

Richard: Kim has become a danger to China and they are willing to let us remove him and we have to remove him and destroy the North Korean military at the very least. Our being tied down in North Korea removing a threat to China lets China move against India. Remember a couple of days ago China told India that the countdown to war has started.

        • North Korea reveals its plan to attack Guam
By Ben Bowles August 10, 2017

Apparently Barack Obama was a more formidable military leader than anyone on the Left or Right gave him credit for. It appears that North Korea is now taking a page out of his strategic handbook, which included publicly announcing troop withdrawal dates and draw-down numbers well in advance to give the enemy time to formulate its own counter-strategy.

In its effort to teach a lesson about bluster to President Donald Trump, aka “a guy bereft of reason” on whom absolute “only force can work,” the equally blusterous Norks are revealing their plan to attack Guam, as promised yesterday.

According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Kim Jong Un’s generals are “seriously examining the plan for an enveloping strike at Guam through simultaneous fire of four Hwasong-12 intermediate-range strategic ballistic rockets in order to interdict the enemy forces on major military bases on Guam and to signal a crucial warning to the U.S.”

The military will report its plan to Kim “sometime in mid-August” and then await his order. The missiles would reportedly splash down within a matter of miles of Guam.

  19. FBI Says ISIS Used eBay to Send Terror Cash to U.S.
Affidavit alleges American citizen Mohamed Elshinawy was part of a global network stretching from Britain to Bangladesh

U.S. investigators uncovered a global financial network run by a senior Islamic State official that funneled money to an alleged ISIS operative in the U.S. through fake eBay transactions, according to a recently unsealed FBI affidavit.

The alleged recipient of the funds was an American citizen in his early 30s who had been arrested more than a year ago in Maryland after a lengthy Federal Bureau of Investigation surveillance operation that found the first clues to the suspected network.

The government had alleged in a 2016 indictment that the American suspect, Mohamed Elshinawy, pledged allegiance to Islamic State and had pretended to sell computer printers on eBay as a cover to receive payments through PayPal, potentially to fund terror attacks.

In it, the Forensicator presented his reasons for concluding that the DNC emails exposed in the summer of 2016 were not hacked, as long accepted by public officials and the media.

Instead, the DNC files had to have been leaked. The transfer and exposure of the emails from the DNC system did not involve a remote intrusion of any kind – not even a phishing of John Podesta. (For all I know, John Podesta did at some point respond to a phishing probe. But the Forensicator’s analysis is that that had nothing to do with the exposed DNC files.)

Julian Assange, who warned in early June 2016 that WikiLeaks had obtained files related to Hillary’s campaign, has asserted all along that the emails weren’t hacked. He has reiterated that WikiLeaks received them from a leaker. (Assange has never directly named the leaker, but has seemed to all but acknowledge that it was DNC employee Seth Rich, who was murdered on 10 July 2016. That, however, is not something that can be proven by the details about the file transfer from the DNC.)

“Algeria is determined to take all legal measures in accordance with international charters to “preserve the security and stability of its borders”, the country’s Interior Minister, Noureddine Bedoui, has said.

Speaking at a meeting with members of the municipal council, Bedoui addressed the increasing worries regarding the rise in illegal immigration. He reiterated how the National Commission in charge of the case “had taken strict measures to eradicate criminal networks that engage in the trafficking and exploitation of women and children in our territory for criminal purposes.” He further added how some of these criminals were arrested last year.

“We will continue in this direction with more firmness,” he promised.

“All the strict measures will be taken to overcome this phenomenon and to preserve our security and stability,” he said, adding that “this will be done in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its counterparts in Niger and Mali and several other African countries.”

Algeria has been facing increased hysteria regarding the presence of sub-Saharan migrants settling in the country or transiting en route to Europe. Media frenzies have been blasted for racist headlines accusing migrants of bringing diseases into the country and of attacking Algerians.

Many of the migrants have been forced to live in squalid camps around the capital where diseases have thrived in the poor conditions.”

  30. SWITZERLAND – Winterthur imam charged with incitement to murder

An Ethiopian imam of the now closed An’Nur mosque in Winterthur has been charged with inciting people to commit murder.
The Winterthur public prosecutor’s office said in a statement on Friday that the imam was charged on August 2nd with inciting the murder of non-practising Muslims.

He is also accused of having posted violent images of murders on Facebook and giving them to other people.

In addition he faces a charge of violating the Aliens Act by working without a permit.

The public prosecutor is demanding a suspended prison sentence and the man’s expulsion from Switzerland with a 15-year ban on returning.

The imam has been under investigation since early November 2016 when police raided the An’Nur mosque after receiving evidence about a sermon given by the imam in which he called for the murder of Muslims who refused to take part in common prayer.

The imam and three others were arrested during the raid.

Proceedings against two of the three were terminated on July 18th, the prosecutor said. The investigation against the third is nearing completion.

In February police arrested ten other people in connection with a brutal attack on two Muslims who are thought to have tipped off a journalist about the controversial sermon.

The An’Nur mosque closed its doors in late June after the landlord of the building refused to extend the rental contract.

The mosque was a controversial presence in the northern Swiss city over allegations that it had connections to terror groups and supported the radicalization of young people.

    The mosque denied the accusations.

  32. VIDEO: Filmmaker stunned as migrants dropped in Spanish enclave on jet ski (express, Aug 11, 2017)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/840043/Immigration-news-Immigrants-transported-to-Ceuta-on-jet-ski

“THIS is the moment migrants are dropped ashore on Spanish enclave Ceuta by smugglers using jet skis.

Video footage has emerged shocking African migrants being transported into the Spanish territory in North Africa on the back of jet skis.

One man – reported being a 28-year-old from Guinea – drowned before he could be ferried to safety on the coast of Ceuta.

The video captured from the shoreline shows a suspected migrant being thrown into the water and left to make their own way to shore by the small encampment of Benzu.

The jet ski can then be seen rushing off, presumably so the smuggler can pick up another migrant to bring ashore on the Spanish enclave.

It comes as around 30 men were filmed sprinting away from an inflatable Zodiac dinghy after landing on a packed Spanish beach…”
