SEOUL (Reuters) – The United States flew two supersonic B-1B bombers over the Korean peninsula in a show of force on Sunday after Pyongyang’s recent tests of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM), the U.S. and South Korean Air Forces said.
North Korea said it conducted another successful test of an ICBM on Friday that proved its ability to strike America’s mainland, drawing a sharp warning from U.S. President Donald Trump.
The B-1B flight was in direct response to the missile test and the previous July 3 launch of the “Hwasong-14” rocket, the U.S. statement said. The South Korean air force said the flight was conducted early on Sunday.

This is somewhat tangential, but it needs to be said, and now is as good a time as any.
Question: Do you find it credible that there could be Al-Qaida/ISIS ‘sleeper cells’ in place in the US, which are preparing a major strike, on the level of 9-11, directed at essential infrastructure targets such as the power grid, communication nodes, transportation hubs, etc.? Sleeper cells which do their job, ie. sleep, rather than call attention to themselves by vehicle attacks, workplace beheadings, or being caught trying to buy explosives from an FBI undercover?
If you answer yes, then what sort of event would be likely to trigger them to wake up and go into action? It would almost have to be a breakout of a shooting war with the NORKS and the resulting confusion. There is nothing else on the horizon that would qualify, except maybe a violent coup attempt on the President.
This sort of attack could potentially do more damage that the NORKS, at least in the short term, and should be seriously prepared for.
Suggestions:
1. Step up all monitoring of ‘chatter’ and surveillance of potential suspects.
2. Think like the enemy, what are the possible targets in your area, how can they be protected, and how can they be most rapidly be brought on-line again if something should happen.
3. Prepare in advance, a devastating retaliation that can be launched within hours. When the dog makes a mess on the carpet, it is useless to scold him tomorrow.
In short, don’t let the Korean situation cause you to take your eye off the ball!

The reason we have been waiting is so we can rebuild our military to a level where we can take on a three from war with two fronts in one hemisphere and one in the other hemisphere. My guess is that we will hit them before winter, early enough to let most of hte ground fighting be over before winter. A winter war in Korea is a massive mother loving bear of a bitch. Also most of the ground fighting in Korea will be done by South Korean troops, there were some in Nam and
Charlie wen hundreds of miles out of their way to avoid them. Our ground forces will be reserved for China and Iran, not necessarily in that order.
Why any boots-on-the-ground? A few dozen MOABS could cripple most NORK capabilities. The only difficult task is (finding and) capping Kim Jong Un’s all-too-corpulent ass.

Why our boots?
The short answer is politics.
During the Korean War we (the US) were given total control of the Korean military for as long as we are engaged in military conflict. This means we have to keep a significant number of military personal in South Korea. We have maintained a Division of troops in South Korea ever since, the reasons are varied but mainly are to 1) stop China and Russia from sending Kim South, 2) to stop the more aggressive South Korean leaders from moving north. The treaty giving us control of the South Korean military is valid only when Us troops are also involved in combat. If we use just South Korean ground personal the treaty is null and void and we have lost all control.
The assessments I have seen say that the South Korean military is several orders of magnitude better then the North Korean forces and should be easy to defeat, just as they were in the 50s (once we got our act together). But there are enough people worried about China that we want to ensure that we don’t go far enough north to trigger the Chinese.
Put another way we can’t expect the South Koreans to accept our running the war if their troops are the only ones who are at risk. For the US to have credibility as an ally we have to periodically prove we will put US troops in harms way to protect our allies. Of course they have to prove the same thing which is why Japan has been working to change their Constitution and laws letting them use military force outside of Japan.

All that would do is kick the can down the road for a decade or two, the refusal to go north with ground troops and bring about a victory would be taken as a sign of weakness. The left in the West has pushed the no causality idea for so long we are causality adverse, this makes it hard or impossible to fight to a clear victory because of peoples fear of more US boys dying. Look at the history of the causality rates in the 20th Century WWII had about 1 million in 4 years, Korea had between 50 and 60 thousand in 4 years. Nam had between 50 and 60- thousand in 10 years. All of the above rates were called extreme and too high (WWII was way too high but that was because we were fighting a foe with our tech level and high military competence). Now look at the 21st Century, we have been at war for 16 years and have taken less then 10,000 causalities. Once again it is being called an extremely high causality rate. When we fight in Korea this time we (the US) will be the only nation in the war with combat experienced troops, this will make the causalities lower and the fighting easier. Unless we use the leftist written rules of engagement.
That treaty needs serious revision. We’re no longer “engaged in military conflict.”

Continuing this stream of consciousness look at the way the Philippine President is refusing to join the alliance against China, probably because he say the way first Clinton and then Obama stabbed our Asian allies in the back and sucked up to our enemies.
