    http://www.middleeasteye.net/news/saudi-investor-ploughs-millions-liberal-champion-british-media-712241658

“A mysterious Saudi-based investor has ploughed millions of dollars into a British news organisation renowned for championing liberal causes, in a move that will enrage human rights and media freedom campaigners.

Sultan Mohamed Abuljadayel, 42, listed in company records as a Saudi-based Saudi Arabian national, has acquired up to 50 percent of the Independent website, whose newspaper shook Britain’s journalism establishment in the 1980s before struggling financially and ditching the printed word in 2016.

According to registers updated on Companies House on Friday, Abuljadayel controls up to 50 percent of voting rights within Independent Digital News and Media, the company that controls the Independent brand.

An informed Saudi source described Abuljadayel to Middle East Eye as coming from an “established business family based in Medina”.

He now sits with Evgeny Lebedev, the son of a Soviet KGB spy turned Russian oligarch, as a “person of significant control” in the company. Justin Byam Shaw, described by close associates as a “serial entrepreneur”, is a third.

A source with knowledge of the deal said the investment may be as much as £100m, although MEE was unable to independently confirm the exact amount changing hands.

But such a figure would be an incredible reversal of fortunes for a company that had lost millions of pounds a year for decades and was sold to the Lebedev family in 2010 for the sum of £1…”

  3. Thousands of ISIS jihadis in Syria and Iraq could threaten Europe despite fall of Mosul (express, Jul 29, 2017)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/834452/thousands-isis-jihadis-syria-iraq-mosul-europe-threaten-daesh-jihadis

“AROUND 11,000 ISIS jihadis remain at large across Syria and Iraq, despite the fall of its strategic stronghold in Mosul.

Defence intelligence officials said more than 4,000 Daesh terrorists are positioned across Iraq, while as many as 7,000 militants are on the loose in Syria.

On top of the 11,000 militants across Iraq and Syria, AP said there are around 8,000 individuals not formally part of the group in Iraq or Syria which help the terror cult.

The Council on Foreign Relations’ Max Abrahms told Sputnik that the “helpers” could help the terror group in anything from logistical to economic operations, while not necessarily supporting their murderous ideology.

These could include women, children and people looking to further their own self-interest. Examples of this may include paying the terror cult in return for safety.

The US State Department estimated that “in excess of 40,000 total foreign fighters have gone to the conflict [in Syria] and from over 100 countries” in June 2016.

Many foreign fighters were able to travel through into ISIS-held territory through Turkey.

Mr Abrahms described the Turkish border as “porous” and Ankara may be the “biggest state-sponsor” or the terrorist group.

Despite their diminishing numbers, the problem of jihadi insurgencies in the Middle East remains a serious threat to the West.

In April, the UN claimed at least 30,000 fighters had travelled to Syria although “some foreign fighters have already returned to their home countries, spreading violence in their own communities”…”

  7. A Christian man who was sold into slavery was left to die from poisoning before his family home. Police refuse to investigate the death and have reported it as a suicide but family members report a history of mistreatment and have called for a murder inquiry.

In June 2015 Javed Masih (28 yrs) of Kamal Pur Panjchak in Faisalabad, needed a loan of 315,000 rupees (£2333) in order for him to buy a home for his family. To fund the purchase he agreed to a slavery contract with a man named Tajamal Jatt for two years that required him to plough fields, graze cattle, undertake all household chores and minor building repairs. The signed contract agreed to pay the loan which would be settled in full after two years servitude by Javed, who would also be paid a small payment of 7000 rupees (£51) per month.

    • “The British Pakistani Christian Association (BPCA) was born from a single event – in the ashes of churches and homes razed to the ground by a horde of Islamist thugs who persecuted Pakistani followers of Jesus Christ. It happened in the city of Gojra on August 1st 2009 when a married Christian couple were wrongly accused of using torn shreds of the Koran as confetti at their wedding. This false rumour grew in popularity following a hate message preached by a local mosque. Mob violence then led to the deaths of nine innocent people, 100 destroyed homes and two churches set on fire.

This incident pinpointed the need for a body such as the BPCA to highlight the ongoing abuse of Christians in Pakistan. Believers in the country face regular persecution under a so-called, ‘Blasphemy Law’ by the wider community including a lack of employment and constitutional rights; child slavery and forced labour; the rape and forced marriages of women; the imprisonment of believers for their faith; destruction of churches and even death.”

“Australian officials say police have raided properties in several Sydney suburbs and arrested four men suspected of plotting a terrorist attack.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said the counterterrorism raids Saturday were designed to stop “terrorist attacks in Australia.”

Fairfax Media, News Corp. and the Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported that the raids were related to a bomb plot involving aircraft.

The operation was carried out by the Australian Federal Police, New South Wales state police and the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation, the country’s domestic spy agency.

Seven Network television reported that 40 riot squad officers stormed an inner Sydney house before an explosives team found a suspicious device.”

    • Australia Foils Plot to ‘Bring Down’ Plane, Prime Minister Says

Australian counter-terrorism agencies have foiled a plot to “bring down” a plane in a terrorist attack, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull says.

Four men were arrested on Saturday night by counter-terrorism officers in raids on four Sydney properties over an alleged plot to blow up an aircraft.

“My number one priority, and that of my government, is the safety and security of all Australians,” Turnbull said. “The public should be reassured that our security and intelligence agencies are working tirelessly to keep us safe.”

Turnbull told reporters Sunday in a televised press conference that increased security screening measures had been introduced to all Australian airports.

“Some of the measures will be obvious to the public, some will not be,” he said.

Passengers should arrive at airports two hours before departure because of delays caused by extra screening, he said. Travelers were also advised to limit their carry-on and checked baggage.

Turnbull added that the plot seemed to be carefully planned and was not the work of a lone wolf.

“We face a range of terrorist threats,” Turnbull told reporters. “Some of them are lone actors, who activate very quickly with very little warning. On other occasions you get quite elaborate conspiracies. This appears to be in that category.”

      ‘Improvised Device’

Australian Federal Police Commissioner Andrew Colvin said officers became aware people in Sydney were planning to commit a terrorist attack using an “improvised device.” Colvin added that the plot was believed to be inspired by Islamic State.

“At this stage, we don’t have a great deal of information on the specific attack, the location, date or time,” he said. “However, we are investigating information indicating that the aviation industry was potentially a target of that attack.”

The four men in custody had not been charged. None of the men worked in the airport industry, Colvin said. Police believed the alleged planned attack was aimed at the Australian aviation industry at a major airport.

Police Disrupt Plot in Australia to ‘Bring Down An Airplane’

Canberra, Australia (AP) — Australian police disrupted a plot to bring down an airplane and arrested four men in raids on homes in several Sydney suburbs, the prime minister said Sunday.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said that security has been increased at Sydney Airport since Thursday because of the plot. The increased security measures also were extended to all major international and domestic terminals around Australia overnight.

“I can report last night that there has been a major joint counterterrorism operation to disrupt a terrorist plot to bring down an airplane,” Turnbull told reporters. “The operation is continuing.”

Australian Federal Police Commissioner Andrew Colvin said details were scant on the specifics of the attack, the location and timing.

“In recent days, law enforcement has been become aware of information that suggested some people in Sydney were planning to commit a terrorist attack using an improvised devise,” Colvin said. “We are investigating information indicating the aviation industry was potentially a target of that attack.”

Australia’s terrorist threat level remained unchanged at “probable,” Turnbull said. He advised travelers in Australia to arrive at airports earlier than usual — two hours before departure — to allow for extra security screening and to minimize baggage.

There was no evidence that airport security had been compromised, Colvin said.

“We believe it’s Islamic-inspired terrorism,” Colvin said when asked if the Islamic State group was behind the plot.

Seven Network television reported that 40 riot squad officers wearing gas masks stormed an inner-Sydney house before an explosives team found a suspicious device. Colvin declined to say whether a fully equipped improvised explosive device had been found at that address.

A woman led from a raid by police with her head covered told Nine Network Television: “I love Australia.”

None of the four suspects arrested in five raids had been charged, Colvin said. He would not discuss what charges they might face. None of the arrested men worked in the airport industry, Colvin said.

The plot was the 13th significant threat disrupted by police since Australia’s terrorist threat level was elevated in 2014, Justice Minister Michael Keenan said. Five plots have been executed.

“The primary threat to Australia still remains lone actors, but the events overnight remind us that there is still the ability for people to have sophisticated plots and sophisticated attacks still remain a real threat,” Keenan said.” In light of this information, it’s very important that everyone in Australia remains vigilant.”

New South Wales Police Commissioner Mick Fuller said police agreed they had to act on Saturday night because the threat was imminent.

“The reality with terrorism … (is) you can’t wait until you put the whole puzzle together,” Fuller said. “If you get it wrong, the consequences are severe.”

Since Australia’s terrorist threat level was raised in 2014, 70 suspects have been charged in 31 counter-terrorism police operations, Keenan said.

  13. Egypt sentences 8 to death in police killings (abcnews, Jul 29, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/egypt-sentences-death-police-killings-48923354

“An Egyptian criminal court has preliminarily sentenced eight people to death over charges of murder during an attack on a police station in a Cairo suburb in 2013.

Saturday’s ruling referred the case to the Grand Mufti — the country’s top theological authority — to solicit his non-binding opinion on the sentences, a formality in cases of capital punishment. The court will issue final sentences on October 10 in the case which involves a total of 68 defendants.

The attack, which killed six police officers, followed the deadly dispersal by security forces in Aug 2013 of two Cairo sit-in protests staged by supporters of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi, ousted a month earlier by the military after one year in office.

At least 600 Morsi supporters were killed on that day.”

“A Pakistan government official says a roadside bomb has struck a vehicle carrying villagers in a southwestern border town near Iran, killing four people and wounding five others.

Regional government administrator Jabbar Baluch says Saturday’s incident took place in the remote town of Panjgur in Baluchistan province.

Baluch says it is unclear who planted the bomb and officers were still investigating.

  16. UAE: We want secular governments, Qatar has to stop supporting Islamists (memo, Jul 29, 2017)
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20170729-uae-we-want-secular-governments-qatar-has-to-stop-supporting-islamists/

“Ambassador of the UAE in Washington Yousef al-Utaiba said that the existence of the leaderships of Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood and Taliban in Doha is not a “coincidence,” agencies reported on Friday.

In a TV interview, he said: “If you asked the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt and Bahrain what kind of Middle East they want to see in 10 years, they would have a view opposed to that of Qatar. We want strong, stable and prosperous secular governments.”

He continued: “In the past 10 to 15 years, we saw Qatar supporting groups such as the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas, Taliban and the Islamic militias in Syria and Turkey. This is the opposite direction which we want the region to go.”

The ambassador added: “They [Qatar] want more groups such as the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas and Taliban. I do not think it is a coincidence that Hamas leadership, Taliban embassy, Muslim Brotherhood leaders and a group of speakers at Aljazeera encouraging and justifying suicide bombings are based in Doha.”

Concluding his remarks, he said that if Qatar is free to choose retention of this foreign policy and free to say no to the blockading countries’ demands. “Then, we have the right to say we do not want to maintain relations with it.””

    • UAE: Boycotting States Have Evidence of Qatar’s Funding of Terror Groups (aawsat, Jul 29, 2017)
      https://english.aawsat.com/moaz-alomari-and-asharq-alawsat/news-middle-east/uae-boycotting-states-evidence-qatars-funding-terror-groups

“The United Arab Emirates said Friday that the four countries boycotting Qatar have conclusive evidence that Doha is financing extremist organizations in the region, including the terrorist al-Nusra Front.

Meanwhile, foreign ministers of the four anti-terrorism countries are preparing for a meeting in Manama to discuss the latest developments in the Qatari crisis.

UAE Ambassador to Washington Yousef al-Otaiba revealed that the four countries (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain and Egypt) have conclusive evidence to indict Doha for its support of armed militias in Syria, Libya and Somalia, in addition to supporting al-Qaeda in Syria, the Muslim Brotherhood, and many others including Hamas and the Taliban.

Otaiba told US TV channel PBS that Doha has the right to continue to do what it wants and support who it wants. The four countries in return have the right to continue their boycott and to take the measures that safeguard their rights and security as they wish.

He pointed out that the Washington-led international coalition against ISIS could triumph, but that would not be possible without putting an end to funding terrorism from foreign parties.

The ambassador said that the cause of the difference between the four boycotting countries and Qatar is the lack of its commitment to the charters and treaties that were signed in Riyadh in 2013 and 2014.

He stressed that the Gulf states and Egypt cannot agree to the policies of Doha that are contrary to the approach of the Gulf fold. The Gulf crisis is about a fundamental clash of visions over the future of the Middle East, the UAE’s ambassador to Washington said.

“Our disagreement is about what the future of the Middle East should look like and that’s something we haven’t been able to square with the Qataris for a long time,” Otaiba added.

For his part, Michael Morell, a former deputy director of the CIA, said that Qatar has money and relations with extremist groups, and it sees itself oppressed as a country in foreign policy, so it formed allies with these groups and funded them to get the external power it wants.”

  17. UK – Bethnal Green acid attack: Muslim arrested after two men left with ‘life-changing’ injuries

A 23-YEAR-OLD man has been charged following an acid attack which left two men with “life-changing” injuries.

The victims were rushed to hospital after a noxious substance was sprayed on them on Tuesday.

The men, aged 23 and 24, managed to flag down officers at around 7pm on Roman Road, Bethnal Green, where the incident took place.

Rahad Hussain, 23, has been charged with two counts of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm and one count of possession of an offensive weapon, namely acid.

On Friday, the police said of the two injured men: “Whilst their condition is not being treated as life-threatening, it is being treated as life-changing.”

Following the attack, a shopkeeper said the two men screamed “we’ve got acid on us” as their skin was “peeling off”.

He told the Mail Online: “They were two Bengali boys who came into the shop. They had acid on their face and they were burning – their skin was peeling off.

“I just gave them water, they were shouting and I gave them water and they were washing their faces.

“They said: ‘We have got acid on us, we have got acid on us’.

“They were pouring the water over themselves in the shop, and it had got into their clothes. One of them was pouring it down his trousers.

“I was really scared. They were crying and saying: ‘Put the water on me’.”

The attack follows a spate of similar incidents occurring in London in east London.

In the past two years 528 of the 800-odd acid attacks took place in east London, with Redbridge having the fourth highest recorded rate in the capital.

Between April 2015 and April 2017 Barking and Dagenham had 98 attacks, Tower Hamlets 72, Redbridge 58 and Hackney 57.

  18. Philly Archbishop: Europe’s Future Has the Face of ‘Young Muslim Immigrants’

“If you want to see the face of Europe in 100 years, barring a miracle, look to the faces of young Muslim immigrants,” Philadelphia Archbishop Charles J. Chaput told a group of Catholics Thursday.

Speaking at an annual conference of the Napa Institute in California, Chaput tied the future of civilization to a willingness to have children—an area where Muslims lead every other group.

“Islam has a future because Islam believes in children,” Chaput said. “Without a transcendent faith that makes life worth living, there’s no reason to bear children. And where there are no children, there’s no imagination, no reason to sacrifice, and no future.”

“Christian” Europe, on the other hand, languishes under a loss of hope in the future, illustrated by a birthrate well below replacement levels, which is offset only by its uncontrolled mass immigration.

“At least six of Europe’s most senior national leaders have no children at all,” the Archbishop noted. “Their world ends with them. It’s hard to avoid a sense that much of Europe is already dead or dying without knowing it.”

French President Emmanuel Macron, along with the leaders of Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Sweden and the Netherlands, have zero children among them, a feat perhaps never matched in European history. This startling fact has led some to speculate that as a group these leaders have less of a stake in the future of their nations because they have no children of their own.

President Macron got into hot water recently when he chided African nations for having too many children, bringing an avalanche of accusations of racism crashing down upon his head.

As European nations wallow in negative population growth, the French President blamed big families for Africa’s poverty and underdevelopment. Asked about the development of Africa at the G20 meeting in Hamburg, Macron pointed to the “seven to eight children” African women are having as a “civilizational” problem demanding a solution.

“When countries are still having seven or eight children per woman, you can spend billions of euros on them but you won’t stabilize anything,” Macron quipped.

In his address Thursday, Archbishop Chaput seemed to suggest that Macron may have his priorities exactly backwards. Children are far more important than possessions, he said, and the future of the world is with them.

“When young people ask me how to change the world, I tell them to love each other, get married, stay faithful to one another, have lots of children, and raise those children to be men and women of Christian character,” he said.

“Money is important, but it’s never the most important thing,” he said. “The future belongs to people with children, not with things. Things rust and break. But every child is a universe of possibility that reaches into eternity, connecting our memories and our hopes in a sign of God’s love across the generations.”

“That’s what matters,” Chaput said. “The soul of a child is forever.”

  19. VIDEO – Davis imam apologizes for controversial sermon

Saying he “let my emotions get the best of me and cloud my better judgment,” the imam of the Islamic Center of Davis apologized today for his fiery sermon last week that’s been widely condemned as an anti-Semitic attack.

“I said things that were hurtful to Jews. This was unacceptable,” Imam Ammar Shahin, flanked by more than three dozen religious and community leaders, said during a press conference at Davis Community Church.

“To the Jewish community here in Davis and beyond, I say this deeply: I am deeply sorry for the pain I have caused,” Shahin said. “The last thing that I would do is intentionally hurt anyone — Muslim, Jewish or otherwise. It’s not in my heart. I do understand now how words were hurtful, and I’m sorry.”

[…]MEMRI joined the fray Thursday, denying claims from Shahin and the Islamic Center that the institute is an anti-Islam “agenda-driven organization” that mistranslated the sermon and quoted it out of context.

“Imam Shahin is one of a group of extremist preachers who have been exposed by MEMRI to be delivering incitement to hatred and violence,” the statement says. “Like the others, after being exposed, Imam Shahin and the Islamic Center of Davis are trying to deflect responsibility from themselves by issuing all kinds of mendacious and libelous statements against the entity that exposed them.”

The statement included excerpts from Shahin’s sermon on July 14 — the day of the mosque attack — in which he reportedly prays for Allah to “turn Jerusalem and Palestine into a graveyard for the Jews.”

  21. These are the books Stanford is asking students to read this summer

Fresh off the excitement of gaining acceptance into the most competitive university in America, Stanford University incoming freshmen will likely want to take the summer to relax a bit.

Administrators at Stanford want them to continue thinking critically about complex issues. and release The Three Books program every summer to suggest books that the entire community should read and discuss.

“The Three Books program is designed to introduce you to the experience of reading, thinking, and talking about challenging subjects as a member of Stanford’s intellectual community,” professor Noah Diffenbaugh wrote to the class of 2021.

Diffenbaugh, the faculty moderator of the program and a professor of earth system science, said this year’s theme was on sustainability and equity.

“All three of these books have had a deep impact on me and my thinking,” he wrote. “And, just as each of these books offers a sense of hope and optimism amid extremely challenging circumstances, I am optimistic that in discussing these challenges we can help each other find a sense of hope for the future!” he continued.

Read on to see the three books Stanford wants incoming freshmen to read this summer.

    ‘Homegoing,’ by Yaa Gyasi

    From Stanford:

“Homegoing follows the parallel paths of these sisters and their descendants through eight generations: from the Gold Coast to the plantations of Mississippi, from the American Civil War to Jazz Age Harlem. Yaa Gyasi’s extraordinary novel illuminates slavery’s troubled legacy both for those who were taken and those who stayed — and shows how the memory of captivity has been inscribed on the soul of our nation.”

‘The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History,’ by Elizabeth Kolbert

    From Stanford:

“In The Sixth Extinction, Kolbert details the evidence that human activity is causing what scientists call the sixth mass extinction — the loss of as many as half of all living species on Earth. Kolbert traces the intellectual history of how scientists came to understand extinction and woke up to the impact we are having on the planet’s ecosystems.”

‘Salvage the Bones,’ by Jesmyn Ward

    From Stanford:

“In Salvage the Bones, Ward gives us the Batiste family: Esch, a pregnant fourteen-year-old, her teenage brothers, and their alcoholic father, who are watching Hurricane Katrina brew over the Gulf. Set in the twelve days immediately surrounding the arrival of the hurricane, Salvage the Bones is at its heart the story of four motherless children, trying to protect their home and one another against unimaginable disruption.”

  22. China stages high-profile naval drill off Korean peninsula

Show of military might ahead of PLA anniversary aimed at demonstrating Beijing’s resolve amid heightened tensions over Pyongyang, analysts say

China is flexing its military muscle in a high-profile naval exercise in the Yellow Sea, off the western coast of the Korean peninsula, days ahead of the PLA’s 90th anniversary.

The PLA Navy’s North Sea Fleet and the Shandong Maritime Safety Administration announced in the past two days that the central part of the Yellow Sea would be cordoned off to all marine traffic from Thursday for military purposes.

An area of about 40,000 square kilometres off the coastal city of Qingdao, where the North Sea Fleet is headquartered, was expected to be affected by the drill, which would involve live ammunition, Weihai Evening Post reported on Wednesday.

Military experts said the drill was part of celebrations marking the 90th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army, which falls on August 1.

Beijing has yet to unveil details of the celebrations, but sources familiar with the matter told the South China Morning Post that President Xi Jinping would go to Asia’s largest military training base in Zhurihe, Inner Mongolia to watch war games involving cyberwarfare, special troops and army aviation.

  23. China Steps-Up Presence at N. Korean Border

China is said to be fortifying its border with North Korea in response to heightened tensions in the region.

New measures reportedly include the creation of a border defense brigade along with 24 hour drone surveillance across the nearly 900 mile border.

The Chinese military has been going through substantial modernization efforts in recent years, but officials maintain the North Korea crisis should be resolved with diplomacy.

A recent Pentagon report concluded Pyongyang could develop a missile capable of reaching the U.S. by as early as next year.

Richard: It looks like they don’t expect the bluff to work and are getting ready to stop us from going into China, as well as stopping any refugees that are running to them for protection. In my opinion the only people that will run north are the ones that are part of Kim’s government and who can expect trials for their treatment of the civilians.

  26. African Migrant Stabs Bus Driver in the Chest, Attacks Police (breitbart, Jul 29, 2017)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/07/29/african-migrant-stabs-bus-driver-chest-attacks-police/

“The Italian news agency ANSA says an apparently drunken 19-year-old asylum seeker from Ivory Coast has stabbed a public transit bus driver in the Tuscan city of Siena, causing a serious injury.

ANSA said the police, alerted by passengers waiting for the bus at midday Saturday, shot the man in the leg after he turned his attack on them, first heaving a large glass bottle at them and then attacking them with a knife.

According to ANSA, the assailant was the last passenger to get off the bus. Following an argument with the driver and in a drunken state, he ran into a nearby house where he has been residing as an asylum seeker to grab a knife. He returned to stab the bus driver three times in the chest, while passengers called police.

ANSA said the driver was in serious condition.

Police were unable to immediately confirm details of the attack.”

  27. Palestinians: The Metal Detector Scam

    by Khadija Khan
    July 29, 2017 at 5:00 am

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/10751/metal-detector-scam

After massive pressure from the Muslim world and international community, Israel removed all metal detectors and surveillance-camera infrastructure from the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, the location of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Possibly to obfuscate the reason that the metal detectors were installed in the first place — a terrorist attack on July 14, in which three Israeli Arab citizens killed two Israeli Druze police officers with weapons they had hidden inside the mosque — the Palestinian Authority (PA) called on Muslims to boycott the site and launch “days of rage” against the Jewish state.

Palestinians, claiming that the metal detectors were a “desecration” of the mosque — which is actually located on the holiest site in Judaism and the third-holiest in Islam – entered into violent clashes with Israeli security forces. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan denounced Israel and called on Muslims to “protect” Jerusalem.

According to the local security officials, the incident took place earlier today in the remote part of Shorabak district.

Provincial police spokesman Zia Durani confirmed that a water dam was detonated by the Taliban insurgents using explosives materials.

Durani further added that the dam was constructed in a remote part of Shorabak district which was playing a key role in irrigating the agricultural lands.

He said thousands of acres of land and gardens were irrigated by the dam and its destruction has sparked panic among the residents who are saying that their land will be harmed if it is not reconstructed immediately.

The Taliban insurgents group has not commented regarding the report so far…”

  31. Egypt’s new anti-terrorism council to reform religious discourse and target political Islam: Sisi (ahram, Jul 29, 2017)
    http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/1/64/274432/Egypt/Politics-/Egypts-new-antiterrorism-council-to-reform-religio.aspx

“Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi issued a decree on 26 July officially establishing the National Council for Combating Terrorism and Extremism (NCCTE) as part of a long-term plan to combat radical Islamism.

El-Sisi’s decree comes just one day after the Fourth National Youth Conference, which was held in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria on 24 and 25 July, focused on fighting terrorism and reinforcing the country’s national security.

The idea of the council was first introduced in the aftermath of the 9 April suicide bomb attacks on churches in the two cities of Tanta and Alexandria, which left 45 dead and more than 100 injured.

In an interview with the editors-in-chief of three national newspapers, El-Sisi said that the “new council will be created to take charge of reforming religious discourse and fighting extremist ideas in a systematic way, as well as drying up the sources of the terrorists’ funding.”

El-Sisi said the war against terrorism must include an intellectual and cultural dimension to help correct distorted interpretations of Islam…”
