All Israel-labeled bottles of wine may be sold once again in Ontario, Canada, after a directive to remove wine products produced in the West Bank from shelves was retracted.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) backtracked on their ruling on Tuesday that wine products labeled as “Product of Israel” should be removed from sale if their production could be traced to the West Bank.
This led to the province of Ontario’s regulatory agency for liquor (LCBO) ordering vendors to remove such products from their shelves.
Morally,the whole of Zionist Israel is occupied land,Palestinian land.Legally,the West Bank is occupied territory.There is a place for sanctions here.That said,sanctions do hurt the people they are meant to help and support,as Palestinians would likely be employed in these vineyards,wineries,etc. I remember when we couldn’t buy South African wines in Canada because of sanctions against the Apartheid policies of SA.I would like to know what the Palestinian Authority supports here.I don’t give a damn what the Zionists think.

No there is a difference. Israel is the only true democracy in the region and that is worth preserving. If it were to go back to Palestinian hands, they would rule the region as a religious theocracy. How can any reasonable liberal progressive endorse that? Israel is the only country in the region that doesn’t oppress women or gay people. And as a nation it has a right to defend itself from terrorism. I will concede that Israel has committed human rights violations. So has Hamas and before them the PLO. This is because it’s a war. There need not have been a war and hopefully it will end, but it probably won’t happen without a 2 state solution. There were attempts to come to a peaceful resolution with Palestinians but they failed because there extremely violent and unreasonable men on the Palestinian side who refused to be part of a multicultural society. And that is because militant Islam is anti-Semetic. Not all criticism of Israel is anti-Semetic, but a lot of it is. I used to believe as you do, but after having educated myself on the topic, I came around to another way of thinking on this. As for the wine, if you don’t like it don’t buy it. I am glad the LCBO reversed itself because customers should have the right to buy what they wish. The progressive moral preaching gets a bit tired and hypocritical when you consider that progressives refuse to address the harms to women, girls, and gay people that militant Islam is responsible for.

This is what turned my thinking on this issue (below). If you are a true progressive who cares about human rights, it may do so for you as well. The violence that is brought to bear against Palestinians by their own leaders is barbaric and wrong in the extreme. Ideally, those who are not fanatics will choose to be assimilated in to Israeli culture and learn to live in a civilized manner, being able to retain their religion and culture as long as it doesn’t violate human rights and basic standards necessary for a civil society (i.e., the standards we typically enjoy and take for granted in the West). Maybe in the future that will happen if enough young people desire it and the old terrorists fade away, as happened in Ireland.

Palestinians are deprived of the freedoms in the West Bank and Gaza that Americans and Israelis take for granted, namely, freedom of religion, freedom of the press, freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, gay rights, and women’s rights. Israel has nothing to do with the denial of these rights; however; they are all blocked by the Palestinian

Gay Palestinians are not tolerated, and many have fled to Israel for sanctuary. Women are routinely discriminated against, and honor killings are still practiced. A UN organization reported in 2014 that violence against women was on the rise and that fourteen women
were killed in just the first five months alone. In 2013, the total was twenty-eight. A 2012 survey by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics found that 37 percent of Palestinian women were victims of some form of violence by their husbands; the figure in Gaza was 58 percent.
While human rights groups obsessively focus on Israel’s treatment of Palestinians, they routinely ignore abuses by Palestinians against their own people. While Israel may be blamed for hardships faced by Palestinians, the denial of these basic civil and human rights in the territories has been the sole responsibility of the Palestinian leadership.
