  2. French Corbyn? Macron’s election promises DESTROYED as he’s told France needs AUSTERITY (express, Jul 1, 2017)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/823159/Emmanuel-Macron-French-spending-watchdog-EU-budget-rules-financial-restraint

“EMMANUEL Macron’s dreams of ramping up spending to fund his election campaign pledges were shut down today after a French watchdog warned he could bankrupt France.

The Court des Comptes said the country’s government will have to slash spending if it is to meet its European Union budget deficit limits this year and the President’s plans to increase spending will have to be put on ice.

Officials said the deficit target of 2.8 per cent of Gross Domestic Product set by Francois Hollande’s socialist government was “out of reach” and warned France’s public finances were in worse shape than most other European countries.

The watchdog’s warning is the first reality check for Mr Macron and underlines the challenge he faces to restore France’s credibility in Brussels and Berlin while fulfilling his campaign pledges to modernise the welfare state and reinvigorate the economy…”

  3. DAILY MAIL – Two dozen Democrats get behind bill to lay foundation for removing Trump for being mentally ‘incapacitated’ (but they’d need Mike Pence to agree)

25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution allows Congress to set up a medical commission that could determine if a president is fit for office
The president’s cabinet is also allowed to serve that purpose, but Congress has never established its own group to participate
Either panel would require the vice president to agree before Congress could vote to remove the president
A Maryland Democratic congressman is trying to set up a commission to target President Trump, tweeting: ‘Trump’s mental incapacity is no laughing matter’
Plan has only attracted Democratic cosponsors so far
Senate that passed 25th Amendment agreed ‘inability’ meant a ‘mental debility’ rendering a president ‘unable or unwilling to make any rational decision’

[…]Raskin’s bill would allow the four Republican and Democratic leaders of the House and Senate to each choose a psychiatrist and another doctor. Then each party would add a former statesman – like a retired president or vice president.

[…]The final group of 10 would meet and choose an 11th member, who would become the committee’s chairman.
Once the group is officially seated, the House and Senate could direct it through a joint resolution to conduct an actual examination of the president ‘to determine whether the president is incapacitated, either mentally or physically,’ according to the Raskin bill.

[…]when the 25th Amendment was sent to the states for ratification in 1965, the Senate agreed that ‘inability’ meant that a president was ‘unable to make or communicate his decisions’ and suffered from a ‘mental debility’ rendering him ‘unable or unwilling to make any rational decision.’
So far two dozen members of the House, all Democrats, have signed on to cosponsor the bill. […]

  4. Snopes shows its true (anti-Western) colors.

Are Indiana Muslims Appalled By an ‘Accurate’ List of Muhammad’s Deeds? — A billboard displaying hate speech is nowhere near accurate.

“We spoke to academics who study early Islam to get more information and context. Ayesha S. Chaudhry, Associate Professor of Islamic Studies and Gender Studies at the University of British Columbia, told us that everything about the billboard is wrong.

[GOT THAT? As in, “everything about the billboard is wrong“. In other words, almost all of the entire world’s Muslim population is bitterly clinging to its swords and religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them, even as they murder Christians and Jews, rape little girls, enslave everyone else (including other Muslims), and generally commit more atrocities per hour, day, week, month, or year than all other extremist groups COMBINED!]

The title, “the perfect man,” is poor translation from an Arabic phrase in the Koran, which describes the Prophet as an excellent example. But none of the items listed on the billboard appear in the Koran — they are historical events, and the accuracy of details surrounding them remain contested by scholars, the Muslim community to which Chaudhry belongs.

Chaudhry told us that all accounts of the Prophet’s life, which occurred 1,400 years ago in 7th-century Arabia, were written at least 200 years after his death, and their reliability for accuracy is shaky…”

All of which makes no mention about how the vast majority of Muslims—regardless of any veracity within the Koran, hadith, or sunnah—adamantly maintain that Mohammad is the “Al-Insan al-Kamil” (“perfect man”) and routinely imitate him to the point of raping pre-teen brides that die of vaginal hemorrhaging on their “wedding night” and, (absent any access to women) prong the nearest young boys or whatever available domesticated farm animals that there may be.

For a grim assessment of what awaits Islam and the West, please scan my reply to “Suicide attack on Niger displaced camp kills 2, wounds 11“.

If Western Civilization is going to have any sort of “Happy Ending”, it will necessarily mean that Islam shall be long gone from history’s timeline. For however long Islam remains on the scene, there will only be more genocides, bloodshed, wholesale slaughter, atrocities, terrorism, bestiality, Antisemitism, so-called “honor” killings, gang rapes, institutionalized misogyny, mass murders, rampant child abuse, intolerance, corruption, theocracy, oppression, conflict, illiteracy, self-inflicted epidemics, tyranny, violent homophobia, amputations, hijackings, random executions, sexual assaults, stabbings, radicalization, ethnic cleansing, bomb vest murders, beheadings, acid attacks, slashings and—lest the world should ever forget—the unreasonable, reprehensible censure, and senseless, heinous murder of Herr Gambolputty de von Ausfern- schplenden- schlitter- crasscrenbon- fried- digger- dingle- dangle- dongle- dungle- burstein- von- knacker- thrasher- apple- banger- horowitz- ticolensic- grander- knotty- spelltinkle- grandlich- grumblemeyer- spelterwasser- kurstlich- himbleeisen- bahnwagen- gutenabend- bitte- ein- nürnburger- bratwustle- gerspurten- mitz- weimache- luber- hundsfut- gumberaber- shönedanker- kalbsfleisch- mittler- aucher von Hautkopft of Ulm.

    • “Behind Islamic Terror”
      by William F. Jasper – September 3, 2007

      Excerpt:

The new dynamic in world conflict, many now insist, is no longer the clash of ideologies, as typified by the Cold War, but the clash of civilizations, as exemplified by the 9/11 attacks, the continuing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the increasing militancy of “fundamentalist” Muslims worldwide. “The Clash of Civilizations” is, of course, the title of a seminal 1993 article by Professor Samuel P. Huntington for Foreign Affairs, the journal of the Council on Foreign Relations. “It is my hypothesis,” wrote Huntington, “that the fundamental source of conflict in this new world will not be primarily ideological or primarily economic. The great divisions among humankind and the dominating source of conflict will be cultural.” “The clash of civilizations will dominate global politics,” he averred, and “the fault lines between civilizations will be the battle lines of the future.”

The chief battle line in this global vision is the one between Western civilization and a militant Islam aligned with China. Huntington developed this theme more fully in his 1996 book, The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order, hyped by some as the most influential political treatise of the post-Cold War era.

A Democratic congressman has proposed convening a special committee of psychiatrists and other doctors whose job would be to determine if President Donald Trump is fit to serve in the Oval Office.

Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin, who also teaches constitutional law at American University, has predictably failed to attract any Republicans to his banner.

But the U.S. Constitution’s 25th Amendment does allow for a majority of the president’s cabinet, or ‘such other body as Congress may by law provide,’ to decide if an Oval Office occupant is unable to carry out his duties – and then to put it to a full congressional vote.

  10. French Puzzle Over Macron as Their New President Gathers Up Power

PARIS — Is he Machiavelli, Bonaparte or de Gaulle? Emmanuel Macron wrote a thesis about the first, is often compared to the second and frequently cites the third.

That parlor game playing out in the French media, as France tries to figure out its new president, demonstrates one thing: Mr. Macron has already concentrated all the power, nearly by default.

He rarely speaks to the press, limits public appearances and has helped candidates who support his agenda win a majority in the National Assembly.

Mr. Macron insists that his intensive assembling of the tools of power is not an end in itself, and the sense of direction, energy and renewal has been welcomed by French citizens who have longed for greater authority in Paris after the weak presidency of his predecessor, François Hollande.

  11. Trump Revives 1960s-Era Space Council

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Friday to re-establish the National Space Council, reviving an entity that was formed during the 1960s race between the U.S. and the Soviet Union to reach the moon first.

The council, to be led by Vice President Mike Pence, will be a forum to shape the Trump administration’s approach to space as private-sector companies including Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin emerge as significant players.

“Space exploration is not only essential to our character as a nation but our economy and our great nation’s security,” Trump said Friday at a White House signing ceremony, adding, “I think privatization of certain aspects is going to play an important role.”

Though Trump hasn’t yet filled a vacancy for NASA administrator, the council could set a new direction for the space program, said Phil Larson, an assistant dean at the University of Colorado Boulder’s College of Engineering and Applied Science and an Obama White House space policy official.

“Neither force, nor argument, nor opinion,” said Merlyn with the deepest sincerity, “are thinking. Argument is only a display of mental force, a sort of fencing with points in order to gain a victory, not for truth. Opinions are the blind alleys of lazy or of stupid men, who are unable to think. If ever a true politician really thinks a subject out dispassionately, even Homo stultus will be compelled to accept his findings in the end. Opinion can never stand beside truth. At present, however, Homo impoliticus is content either to argue with opinions or to fight with his fists, instead of waiting for the truth in his head. It will take a million years, before the mass of men can be called political animals.” ~ T.H. White, The Book of Merlyn

  12. USA: Antifa clash with counter-protesters after burning US flag

Clashes broke out between Antifa members holding a “Freedom March” and counter-protesters who turned out at Portland waterfront, Friday.

Antifa protesters burned US flags and chanted “No KKK, No fascist USA” as they faced off with the counter-demo chanting “USA, USA”, both sides baiting and taunting each other.

The march was organised by a group called Patriot Prayer to “promote freedom and courage.” It is one of many protests to have ended in clashes in downtown Portland since US President Donald Trump’s inauguration.

  14. Farmer Stabbed by ‘Allahu Akhbar’ Jihadi Says Media Silence on Attack a ‘Double Punishment’ (breitbart, Jul 1, 2017)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/07/01/farmer-stabbed-allahu-akhbar-jihadi-says-media-silence-attack-double-punishment/

“A French farmer who nearly died at the hands of a knife-wielding jihadist, who was supposed to be under house arrest, has slammed “double standards” from the media and criminal justice system concerning his case.

The Lot-et-Garonne farmer, who was left in a serious condition after being stabbed several times on June 18, told Le Figaro he has his young assistant to thank for still being alive today.

“I saw [the attacker] preparing his blade, and shouting ‘Allahu akhbar’ or, I don’t even know what’,” he said, adding that without his assistant “the jihadist would have finished me, and had me dead on the ground”.

The 58-year-old left hospital last week with 23 stitches and a permit entitling him to almost a month’s ‘disability from work’ insurance.

But, left with psychological scars from the attack, the Frenchman saw the lack of media attention garnered from his ordeal as “double punishment”, complaining there are different rules when it comes to attacks on politicians compared to attacks on regular people.

“The media would have had plenty to say, had I been jostling with my political views in the streets. But hey, I’m just a yokel,” he shrugged, comparing the number of column inches dedicated to his ordeal compared to centre-right lawmaker Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet, who was left unconscious in clashes with a protester days prior to his own hospitalisation.

“I must be told how it was that this man found himself in my field, 20 kilometres from home, at a time when he was supposed to be under house arrest,” the farmer said of confirmed Islamist.
The jihadi was on the ‘Fiché S’ terror watch list, which means he was under surveillance.

Laroque-Timbaut’s centre-right mayor Lionel Falcoz, said: “There are feelings of misunderstanding and anger among the victims’ relatives. Some feel that the response from criminal justice is not up to scratch, and people don’t understand why the man’s profile — an obviously very radicalised Muslim, who was found to have 31 extremely violent ISIS videos on his phone — will no longer be taken into account by the prosecution.

“I have heard from farmers who have been telling me they feel they now have to work in defensive groups, as in the Westerns. Public safety is not best served by self-defence militias,” he said.”

“Cardinal Peter Turkson, the highest ranking African prelate in the Vatican, said it is high time to “close the tap” of African immigration into Europe, which has reached new records in recent days.

Asked about recent rumblings that Italian authorities are finally ready to close down ports and begin turning away ships filled with migrants, Turkson told reporters the time has come to “turn off the faucet” of African migration to Europe and instead focus on migrants’ countries of origin.

“It is like water flowing from an open tap,” he said. “It’s not enough just to dry it, you have to turn off the faucet,” he added, noting that the vast majority of African countries are not war zones from which the populations must necessarily flee. “In my opinion, we can change things in order to keep young people where they are.”…”

  17. Global OECD Group Forced to U-Turn on Dire ‘Quality of Life’ Brexit Predictions (breitbart, Jul 1, 2017)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/07/01/senior-global-body-u-turns-on-dire-brexit-predictions-admits-quality-of-life-unlikely-to-change/

“The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has u-turned on its dire Brexit predictions, admitting that “quality of life” in Britain will, in fact, “probably remain to a very great extent as it is today”.

Prior to Britain’s referendum on membership of the bloc, the OECD was one of several prestigious institutions, global bodies, and think tanks to warn that a Leave vote would have a severe impact on the British economy during the referendum campaign.

“A decision to exit would result in … substantial negative consequences for the UK, the EU and the rest of the world,” it asserted in June 2016.

OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurria even warned of an effective “Brexit tax” on people’s living standards. 18. Merkel blamed after ‘rats and diseases’ strike tourist hotspots in Greece (express, Jul 1, 2017)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/823530/Angela-Merkel-Greece-bailout-debt-crisis-tourist-hotspots

“TOURIST hotspots in Greece popular with holidaying Britons are suffering from a “public health crisis” after austerity-imposed cuts have caused two weeks of refuse worker strikes.

Tourist destinations popular among holidaying Britons have been struck by a wave of “rats, diseases and rubbish”.

Piles of rubbish have been mounting in cities across Greece for the past two weeks after thousands of refuse workers went on strike over job security.

The dispute over the refuse workers has prompted chaos on Greek streets, where residents fear an impending “public health crisis”.

Protesters took to the streets this week to criticise the government for going along with public sector cuts imposed by the IMF and the European Union.

These cuts mean that up to 10,000 workers in Greece who collect the rubbish could be out of a job as their temporary contracts end.

Tourist areas of Greece have been among the worst hit, particularly in the northern city of Thessaloniki and the island of Corfu.

Earlier this week, protesters set fire to rubbish outside the interior ministry and threw paint at the building in a protest against austerity measures imposed by the country’s international creditors.

Riot police were called to stop protesters storming the building.

The risk of diseases has grown as the uncollected rubbish continue to rot in temperatures of up to 35C – which is expected to rise in the coming days…”

According to a statement released Saturday, Mullah Bashir, the Taliban-appointed governor of the Nirkh district, was killed and two militants were wounded late Friday night.

In a separate statement, the ministry said at least 13 militants, including five Islamic State fighters, were killed after Afghan warplanes targeted their hideouts in eastern Paktika, northern Sar-e Pul and Jawzjan provinces.

The attacks were carried out overnight, destroying some of the militants’ weapons and vehicles.

The Taliban hasn’t commented on the fighting.”

  21. Macron to meet West African leaders on new anti-terror force (abcnews, Jul 1, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/macron-meet-west-african-leaders-anti-terror-force-48389113

“France’s president meets Sunday in Mali with heads of state from five nations across Africa’s vast Sahel region to support a new 5,000-strong multinational force meant to counter a growing threat from extremists who have targeted tourist resorts and other high-profile areas.

The recently elected President Emmanuel Macron’s second visit to Mali in a month and a half emphasizes France’s interest in countering al-Qaida-linked groups and other jihadists who have alarmed the international community with deadly attacks in countries once considered relatively safe.

In mid-June, the U.N. Security Council unanimously approved a resolution welcoming the deployment of the new force with troops contributed by Mali, Burkina Faso, Mauritania, Niger and Chad. The approval came days after at least five people were killed in an attack on a Mali resort popular with foreigners, with the recently merged extremist group Nusrat al-Islam wal Muslimeen claiming responsibility.

A major goal at Sunday’s meeting is finding money to support the new force, which will operate in the region along with a 12,000-strong U.N. peacekeeping mission in Mali, which has become the deadliest in the world, and France’s own 5,000-strong Barkhane military operation, its largest overseas mission. The new force is meant to be operational in the next few months.

If financing for the G5 Sahel force is left to the five regional countries that will not bode well, said Sidi Ali Bagna, the youth leader for the G5 in Mali.

France had sought some form of U.N. financing, but the United States objected. So far, the European Union has pledged 50 million euros ($57 million). The overall cost for the force is not yet known.

Macron on Sunday is expected to announce significant support, both financial and in terms of equipment. There are hopes that more European countries, including Germany, will contribute, said an official in the French president’s office who spoke on condition of anonymity because such officials are not authorized to be named publicly.

The United States is France’s principal partner in the Sahel region, and there are hopes it will contribute as well, the French official said.

The new force, made up of five battalions that will be sent to 150 zones across the region, is meant to tackle blind spots that other forces aren’t able to cover, the French official said.

It is too soon to envision the new force taking over for the French military mission, the official added, saying a French pullout can happen only when the extremist threat recedes.

While the multiple anti-terror forces in the region are meant to complement each other, some are openly worrying that the participating countries will be stretched too thin.

Chad President Idriss Deby already has said it will be difficult to contribute some 2,000 soldiers to the G5 force while also contributing to the U.N. peacekeeping mission. France’s Operation Barkhane is headquartered in Chad.

“A summit like this is essentially a moment of political mobilization around the new force,” said a West African analyst, Gilles Yabi with the Senegal-based Wathi think tank. “Efforts to mobilize resources will continue well after the summit, and the actual implementation will take several months.”

The extremist threat in the region has been growing for years. A French-led intervention drove out Islamic extremists from strongholds in northern Mali in 2013, but the extremists have continued targeting peacekeepers and other forces. On Thursday, the medical aid group Doctors Without Borders announced it was suspending its activities in northern Mali’s Kidal region because of security concerns.

Religious extremism has spread south, and attacks across the region have become more brazen.

In March, the extremist groups Ansar Dine, Al-Mourabitoun and al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb declared that they had merged into Nusrat al-Islam wal Muslimeen.”

Indian troops came under fire from militants as soldiers laid a cordon around the southern village of Dialgam following a tip that rebels were hiding there, said senior police officer Muneer Ahmed Khan.

After a brief exchange of fire, militants took refuge inside a home where civilians, including women, were also trapped, Khan said. He said that the woman was killed in the crossfire.

“Romanian border police have detained 21 Iraqi migrants hiding in a corn field near the Hungarian border who say they were trying to reach the visa-free Schengen travel zone.

Police say officers discovered the group walking through the field near the village of Pilu in western Romania on Friday evening, stopped them and took them for questioning.

The group was made up of 12 men, three women and six children, the youngest 2 years old. The statement says some of the people detained had already requested asylum in Romania.

Police say the migrants reported that they were trying to reach the Schengen zone. Hungary is a member, while Romania isn’t.”

  24. WHO: Cholera death toll in Yemen rises to 1500 (abcnews, Jul 1, 2017)

“The World Health Organization says a rapidly spreading cholera outbreak in Yemen has claimed 1500 lives since April and is suspected of sickening 246,000 people.

WHO representative in Yemen Dr. Nevio Zagaria said in a news conference in Sanaa on Saturday that the number of suspected cases in the country’s second outbreak of cholera in six months has multiplied tenfold in the last two months.

The death toll rose from 1300 as announced two weeks ago by WHO, which put the number of suspected cases at 200,000 at the time. The organization said that a quarter of those killed by the disease in the war-torn country are children.

  25. Kashmir rebel designated as terrorist by US vows to fight on (abcnews ,Jul 1, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/kashmir-rebel-designated-terrorist-us-vows-fight-48388874

“A prominent Kashmir rebel leader recently blacklisted as a terrorist by the United States vowed on Saturday to continue fighting until India relinquishes control of the disputed Himalayan region.

“We will not end this fight without liberating Kashmir from India,” Syed Salahuddin, who heads the Hizbul Mujahideen militant group, said amid tight security in a news conference in Muzaffarabad, the Pakistani-controlled part of Kashmir.

The U.S. State Department classified 71-year-old Salahuddin as a “global terrorist” on the eve of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Washington last month, a decision the militant leader said was only made to appease India. He said Hizbul Mujahideen only targets Indian forces and that the Islamic State group and al-Qaida have no presence in Kashmir.

“Donald Trump’s decision will be thrown out if anyone challenges it in American courts,” he said. “No other Western nation has endorsed what this crazy Donald Trump has done,” he said.

Salahuddin called on the United Nations to implement its resolutions and give Kashmir’s people the right to vote on independence or merging with Pakistan. He said Hizbul Mujahideen may consider peace talks with India if Russia or China can guarantee that such talks would produce results.

Salahuddin later led a rally in the city and praised Pakistan for continued support in Kashmir. India accuses Pakistan of backing Kashmir insurgents in the region split between the two nations, a charge Islamabad denies. The nuclear-armed South Asian rivals claim the territory in its entirety, having fought two of their three wars over it since 1947.

Salahuddin is based in Pakistan’s part of Kashmir and often addresses public rallies there.

On Monday, Salahuddin had called for a “Week of Resistance,” including two days of strikes starting July 8. That’s the anniversary of last year’s killing of Burhan Wani, a young protest leader whose death enraged people across Kashmir.

Islamabad on Saturday handed over to New Delhi a list of 546 Indian prisoners being held in Pakistan, according to a Foreign Ministry statement. Under an accord, Pakistan and India routinely exchange lists of each other’s prisoners on July 1.”

  26. Who would benefit most from a national ‘speak English’ initiative? The surprising answer
By Myra Adams July 1, 2017

Months ago, a home repairman made a comment so politically incorrect that I am still wrestling with its meaning (details later). However, his remark is why I read with great interest the Immigrant Literacy: Self-Assessment vs. Reality report posted last week by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) — a conservative-leaning nonprofit think-tank advocating lower levels of immigration.

The report was attributed to Jason Richwine. His study was linked on the Drudge Report, and its key findings were headlined on numerous conservative media outlets, but ignored by the mainstream media.

Key findings were “41% of immigrants score at or below the lowest level of English literacy, a level variously described as “below basic” or “functional illiteracy.”

“Hispanic immigrants struggle the most with English literacy. Their average score falls at the 8th percentile, and 63% are below basic.”

But the report’s headline-maker was “67% of Hispanic immigrants who have lived in the U.S. for 15 or more years are functionally illiterate.” Moreover, “the children of Hispanic immigrants scored at the 34th percentile of the English literacy test with 22% scoring below basic.”

  27. Smoke bombs, flares as 2,000 march in Genoa to protest far-right group’s new HQ (VIDEO) (RT, Jul 1, 2017)
    https://www.rt.com/news/394881-genoa-italy-activists-march/

“About 2,000 activists poured into the streets of Genoa, Italy, voicing their indignation over the opening of the new CasaPound group’s offices at a site symbolic for the leftist movement. The activists set off smoke bombs and fireworks.

Over 2,000 people took part in the march “against the fascist and racist organization” and “for solidarity to migrants and against borders” on Friday, heading from Piazza Alimonda to Piazza De Ferrari in central Genoa, local media reported. A red and black banner, reading “anti-fascist Genoa,” was carried at the head of the procession.

“We decided to get everyone behind a single banner, “anti-fascist Genoa,” to emphasize the unity of the Genoese at this time of the great need,” genova24.it cited activists as saying.

While smoke bombs and flares were flying during the march, it passed off largely trouble-free amid a heavy police presence.

In one of the minor incidents, protesters reportedly plastered a banner on the door of the CasaPound headquarters, reading “Close CasaPound. Get fascists out of the cities.”

Police cordoned off the streets along the route with vans and trucks on both sides of the road to prevent any potential scuffles that might break out between left- and right-wing activists.

At the start of the march, organizers said that they would not allow the rally be disrupted by any provocations either from within or outside…”

  28. Poland did not invite refugees, has right to say ‘no’ – Kaczynski (reuters, Jul 1, 2017)
    http://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-poland-migrants-idUKKBN19M3HI

“Poland has a moral right to say ‘no’ to refugees, the country’s most powerful politician said on Saturday.

Jaroslaw Kaczynski, head of the ruling party Law and Justice (PiS), gave his views on immigration at a party convention in Przysucha, 100 km (60 miles) south of Warsaw.

“We have not exploited the countries from which these refugees are coming to Europe these days, we have not used their labour force and finally we have not invited them to Europe. We have a full moral right to say ‘no’,” Kaczynski said in a speech broadcast on television.

Last month the European Commission launched a legal case against Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic for refusing to take in asylum seekers, highlighting the feud within the 28-nation bloc over how to deal with migration.

Kaczynski, who has criticised the European Union’s relocation schemes for migrants on many occasions, also said that the PiS could not be accused of being anti-European, as it backed Poland’s joining the block in 2004 and now appreciates the inflow of EU funds.

“The fact that we appreciate them (the funds), does not mean that we have lost the right to various assessments, including those regarding the historical context,” Kaczynski said, adding that Poland has never received any compensation for the losses it suffered during the Second World War.

During his 70-minute speech, the PiS leader suggested the government increase social spending if the economic situation allows. He also said there was a need to reduce the share of foreign capital in the media sector.”

  29. JUNE 03 2017 – DENMARK – Quran-burner trial dropped after Danish parliament revokes centuries-old blasphemy law

‘Religion should not dictate what is allowed and what is forbidden to say publicly,’ says Danish MP

A Danish man who posted a video of himself burning the Quran on Facebook will not stand trial after politicians abolished a centuries-old blasphemy law.

The 42-year-old, who has not been named, was seen setting a large leather-bound copy of the holy book alight in a four-minute clip called “Consider your neighbour: it stinks when it burns”.

He faced up to four months in prison after prosecutors were alerted to the footage, which was posted to a Facebook group called “Yes to freedom – no to Islam” in December 2015.

They brought blasphemy charges under clause 140 of Denmark’s penal code, which bars people from publicly insulting or degrading religious doctrines or worship.

But the case has been dropped after Danish MPs revoked the 334-year-old legislation, and declared they “do not believe that there should be special rules protecting religions against expressions”.

MP Bruno Jerup, who opposed the law, told the Jyllands-Posten newspaper: “Religion should not dictate what is allowed and what is forbidden to say publicly.

“It gives religion a totally unfair priority in society.”

Threatening or degrading behaviour based on people’s religious beliefs will still be punishable under other Danish laws.

Only four blasphemy prosecutions have ever been attempted in Denmark in modern times.

The last was in 1971, when two Denmark Radio producers were acquitted after airing a song mocking Christianity.

Two people were previously fined in 1946 after acting out a “baptism” at a ball in Copenhagen, while four others were prosecuted for putting up anti-Semitic posters and leaflets in 1938.

At least a dozen other cases have been considered but not charged, including in 2006 when prosecutors decided to stop an investigation into the Jyllands-Posten newspaper over a controversial set of caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad.

The publication sparked protests around the world, with insulting the Prophet seen as a grave offence to Muslims and Islamic scholars interpreting Quran verses on idolatry to forbid any representation of Muhammad.

Copies of the Quran are treated with reverence by Muslims and any move to desecrate or destroy the holy book is seen as a grave insult.

Rumours of Quran burnings have sparked arrests, lynchings and riots in Muslim-majority countries, while the move has been appropriated by the far-right and anti-Islamic groups, including the Westboro Baptist Church in America.

  30. EGYPT – MPs call on government to monitor Facebook, suspend male-female online communication

Parliament members have called on the government to practice censorship on social media networks in Egypt to suspend online communication between non-familial females and males.

According to local media reports, the MPs who introduced the idea argued that online communication between females and males is forbidden in Islam’s Sharia law.

Moreover, they stressed on the necessity of the presence of state monitoring on social media networks, adding that it should be enhanced by awareness campaigns to make Egyptians aware of Facebook’s hazardous effect on society.

“The Islamic Sharia is preventing any communication between men and strange women [not his wife, sister or mother] whether this communication is face-to-face, via mobiles or through internet and social media networks,” a member of the Parliament’s religious committee, Abdel Karim Zakarai, told Egypt Independent on Saturday.

“We all know that communicating with a woman other than your mother, sister or wife is considered a sin, therefore it is necessary that the Egyptian government impose strict monitoring on social media networks” he explained.

He added that Dar Al-Ifta [a state-run Islamic religious institution] previously issued a fatwa asserting that online communication between males and females is not accepted in Islam.

Zakarai said that the religious committee only called on the Parliament to discuss such measures; they did not prepare any draft law regarding the matter.

In April, several local news outlets reported that Parliament was to discuss a draft law on imposing a monthly subscription fee on those who use Facebook in Egypt. Media reports indicated that this law could force Egyptians to pay LE200 per month to use Facebook.

According to members of Parliament, the law would help the government monitor cyber crime and restrict any users, pages or posts that damage Egypt’s reputation, contribute to the dissemination of fake news or incite people against public peace and national unity.

  31. WASHINGTON – One of the most bizarre spectacles in Washington is flying almost completely under the radar, even though much of it is playing out in public.

And, it begs one simple question:

Is someone blackmailing one of the top members of Congress in plain sight?

It’s a question that demands to be asked, given the basic known facts.

Democratic bigwig Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., has become the central figure in two major computer hacking scandals, but she has responded to the incidents in completely opposite ways.

When WikiLeaks published 19,252 emails and 8,034 attachments from the Democratic National Committee, or DNC, on July 22, 2016, Wasserman Schultz resigned as the group’s chair two days later, the day before the start of the Democratic National Convention.

She didn’t really have much choice.

Nour left Lebanon for Raqqa two years ago to join her husband, a jihadi. When he was killed, she married a Tunisian.
And so she joined the ranks of a relatively privileged group: the wives of foreign fighters. She still seems to have little sympathy for the treatment of the thousands of Yazidi sex slaves at the hands of their IS captors.
“There was a lot of tension between the wives and the sex slaves,” she said.
“Some of the wives even divorced their husbands because of that. They were spending too much on the sex slaves, buying them the best makeup, clothes and accessories.
“My first husband had an app on his phone. It was a market for sex slaves. They were sharing photos of the sex slaves with the best makeup and clothes, and asking $2,000 [£1,538] for this one, $3,000 for that one. A virgin cost $10,000.”

  34. Swedish police have received several reports of rape after music festivals Friday evening.

A 15-year-old girl was raped during a concert at the Bråvalla Festival in Norrköping on Friday night.

According to the police, the girl was held and raped by a man in the midst of the crowd in front of the scene, without anyone intervening.

    – It’s terrible that one has to experience such a thing with a lot of people around, says police spokesman, Thomas Agnevik, to Aftonbladet.

    – We have little information about the perpetrator and about what has happened, he said, while encouraging those present during the concert to contact the police if they saw anything suspicious.

The girl was taken care of and underwent a medical examination.
