A Muslim woman who was attacked by a stranger in Milwaukee in April told police that she did not believe that she was targeted because of her religion, a statement which is at odds with how her story was portrayed in the media by local and national Muslim civil rights groups.
“In this attack of the Muslim woman, we know of no evidence that would indicate that this attack was anything but a hate crime,” Munjed Ahmad, a lawyer for the woman and board member of American Muslims for Palestine, claimed at a press conference held on April 14, four days after the 58-year-old woman was assaulted while walking home from prayer services at the Islamic Society of Milwaukee.
But police incident reports, obtained by TheDC through an open records request, paint a different picture.

The U.S. Navy destroyer that slammed into a cargo ship in Japanese waters in mid-June, killing seven crew members, failed to react to warning signals in the moments leading up to the crash, the Phillippine-flagged ship’s captain said Monday.
The captain of the ACX Crystal said the container ship flashed lights toward the USS Fitzgerald after it “suddenly” began heading on a collision course near Tokyo Bay on June 17, Reuters reported, citing a copy of Ronald Advincula’s account to Dainichi Investment Corporation, the ship’s owner.
The U.S. Navy didn’t comment to Fox News. Reuters reported it viewed a copy of Advincula’s account but was not able to independently verify it.

FYI, the cargo ship hit the destroyer not he destroyer hitting the cargo ship.
Advincula said in the account that his ship steered hard right to avoid the Fitzgerald but hit it 10 minutes later, around 1:30am local time.
The resulting collision created a large gash on the side of the destroyer. When the listing ship was returned to a U.S. base in Yokosuka, divers recovered the bodies of seven sailors, The Associated Press reported.
I don’t know why the article starts out saying the US ship rammed to cargo vessel but the destroyer was hit in the side.

The deadly collision between a U.S. destroyer and a container ship June 17 took place while the freighter was on autopilot, according to Navy officials.
The Philippines-flagged cargo ship ACX Crystal was under control of a computerized navigation system that was steering and guiding the container vessel, according to officials familiar with preliminary results of an ongoing Navy investigation.
Investigators so far found no evidence the collision was deliberate.
Malfunction? Hacking? Stupidity on both sides?
An instant and permanent end to the naval career of Commander Bryce Benson is one guaranteed result.

Google Fined $2.7 Billion in E.U. Antitrust Ruling
Google suffered a major regulatory blow on Tuesday after European antitrust officials fined the search giant about $2.7 billion for unfairly favoring some of its own search services over those of rivals.
The hefty fine, of 2.4 billion euros, marks the latest chapter in a lengthy standoff between the European Union and Google, which also faces two separate charges under the bloc’s competition rules related to Android, its popular mobile software, and to some of its advertising products. Google denies the accusations.
By levying the fine — the biggest ever in this type of antitrust case — Margrethe Vestager, Europe’s antitrust chief, has laid further claim to be the Western world’s most aggressive regulator of digital services from the likes of Google and Facebook.

Kiev car bomb kills colonel in Ukrainian military intelligence
KIEV (Reuters) – A colonel in Ukraine’s military intelligence was killed by a car bomb in central Kiev on Tuesday, the defense ministry said, describing the incident as a “terrorist act”.
Police said an explosive device in the vehicle blew up at 0516 GMT while the car was moving, killing the driver and wounding a passer-by.
“As a result of (the explosion) a member of the defense ministry’s main intelligence department, Colonel Maksim Shapoval, was killed,” the defense ministry said in a statement.
The police and the ministry did not give further details or say who could be behind the attack.
Since fighting with pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine broke out in 2014, the number of incidents involving explosives outside the conflict zone has increased, but car bombs are relatively rare.
The last major incident in Kiev occurred in July, when a prominent investigative journalist, Pavel Sheremet, was killed by the detonation of an explosive device in his car.

On Monday, Tucker Carlson interviewed Seattle radio host Dave Ross – who ran for Congress (unsuccessfully) as a Democrat in 2004 – on the topic of Ross’s theory about why James Hodgkinson shot up Republicans at a ballfield in Alexandria, VA on 14 June.
As noted by many commentators, Hodgkinson’s political history was one of far-left interests and themes, including participation in the Occupy movement, campaign support for Bernie Sanders, and an obsession with making tax policy as “redistributionist” as possible. Hodgkinson steeped himself in MSNBC talk shows (like Rachel Maddow’s), and the writings of Robert Reich.
Hodgkinson gave some pretty good clues of his own as to what his motive was for shooting at GOP congressmen playing baseball, including writing on Facebook that “Trump is a Traitor. Trump Has Destroyed Our Democracy. It’s Time to Destroy Trump & Co.,” and having an “assassination list” of six Republican members of Congress found on him after the incident.
But while Dave Ross acknowledged some of this in a radio commentary he recorded afterward, his thesis is that what really radicalized Hodgkinson was the view espoused by the political right that the purpose of the people’s right to keep and bear arms is to guarantee against a tyrannical government.

Minimum wage hike wipes out jobs and cuts income for Seattle workers

A “very credible” new study on Seattle’s $15 minimum wage has bad news for liberals, notes Max Ehrenfreud at the Washington Post’s liberal-leaning Wonkblog. The City of Seattle is increasing the minimum wage to $15 over several years. The study finds that already, “some employers have not been able to afford the increased minimums. They’ve cut their payrolls, putting off new hiring, reducing hours or letting their workers go.” Indeed, the “costs to low-wage workers in Seattle outweighed the benefits by a ratio of three to one, according to the study,” which was “commissioned by the city” and “conducted by a group of economists at the University of Washington.” Overall, the study estimates that the average low-wage worker in the city lost $125 a month because of the hike in the minimum.” As Ehrenfreud notes, the study was released “as a working paper Monday by the National Bureau of Economic Research.”
Minimum wage increases cost taxpayers a lot of money. California’s legislative analyst projected in 2016 that increasing the state’s minimum wage to $15 an hour would cost taxpayers $3.6 billion more a year in increased government worker pay. As I have previously noted, this is a very conservative estimate. This cost is partly due to the fact that government employees sometimes have their pay set as a multiple of the minimum wage, meaning they don’t have to be poor to benefit from a minimum wage increase.
Job losses due to minimum wage hikes also slash state and municipal tax revenue, contributing to budget shortfalls. The American Action Forum predicted the increase in California’s minimum wage to $15 would ultimately cost the state nearly 700,000 jobs. An economist at Moody’s calculated that 31,000 to 160,000 California manufacturing jobs will be lost.

France: 150 refugees intercepted as they attempt cross Italian-French border
Some 150 refugees were intercepted and detained by the French Gendarmerie outside the north-western Italian town of Castellar, 145 kilometres (90 miles) North to Menton, on Monday night, following their 24-hour-long attempt to break through the French border.
While police officers blocked some of the refugees and brought them to a barracks on the French-Italian border in Menton before sending them back to Italy, others managed to escape and were seen crossing the Roja River. Among the group of refugees it is alleged that there were also un-accompanied minors.

BREITBART – Returning Islamic State Fighters Given ‘Protected Identities’ To Start New Lives in Europe
Hundreds of Swedish residents who went to fight for the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria have now returned to Europe and the Swedish government has given several of them “protected identities” to keep locals from finding out who they are.
The vast majority of the returning jihadist fighters keep a very low profile once they get back to Sweden as many have committed terrorist offences while in the Middle East. 27-year-old Walad Ali Yousef is one returnee that the government has given a special status protecting his identity, normally given to people under serious threat Expressen reports.
Mr Yousef, originally from the heavily migrant-populated city of Malmo, spoke to the newspaper complaining he had difficulty finding a job. “I am looking for many jobs but can not get one because my pictures are out there,” he said.
Yousef joined the Islamic State in 2014, travelling to the ISIS capital of Raqqa in Syria. Formerly a small time criminal, Yousef sent pictures of himself in Syria posing with Kalashnikov rifles to encourage his friends in Sweden to join the terror group.39-year-old
39-year-old Bherlin Dequilla Gildo, also from Malmo, is now back in Sweden living under an entirely new identity. In 2012 he posted images of himself posing with dead bodies, who he claimed were “Assad’s dogs” and participated directly in killings of Syrian regime soldiers.
It is assumed that the remaining 100 or so Swedes still in the Middle East fighting for the Islamic state are the most radical. Some fear that as Kurdish troops push further into Raqqa, the Swedes will attempt to return home.
Terror expert Magnus Ranstorp said, “the really dangerous ones have not come back yet,” and added, “The vast majority may not do anything, but they are still a danger to the authorities and it must be managed. It is important for the police to be able to prioritise this area so that they do not become dangerous for society.”
While several of those returning are free, many others like Sultan Al-Amin, 31, and Hassan Al-Mandlawi, 33, have been sentenced to life in prison for their crimes committed in the city of Aleppo.
Swedish authorities have been heavily criticised for welcoming Islamic State fighters returning from the Middle East and claiming to be able to integrate them back into Swedish society.
Others have slammed the government for the fact that many fighters have been collecting state money even after they have left to go to the Middle East. One man, a former “Islamophobia expert” was able to collect thousands from the Swedish government while living in Raqqa.

The senator’s call for clearer labelling comes 18 months after an inquiry into third party labels on foods, which called for these to be more clearly marked.
“Australians are waiting for this to be implemented,” Ms Hanson told the parliament, the newspaper reported. Her motion was reportedly passed and the Australian cabinet will now look into the issue of regulation around halal certification.
Halal certifications can be found on a range of food products in Australia, from meat to cookies, Cadbury’s chocolate and vegemite. Money from the certification goes towards funding mosques in Australia.
The One Nation party claims within its policy on halal certification that “by buying halal certified products, it means that you are financially supporting the Islamisation of Australia,” alleging that the money is also believed to “fund terrorism”.
Ms Hanson, who has previously claimed that Australia is “swamped with Muslims”, called for a boycott of Cadbury’s chocolate this Easter, as part of a campaign urging people not to buy halal-friendly chocolate.
She released a video calling for people to buy chocolate from companies that are not halal-certified, such as Lindt and Darrell Lea, and told followers to “go and buy some non-halal Easter eggs and chocolate and have a very happy Easter everyone”.”

Police stopped and searched the vehicle with Turkish plates early Tuesday at the crossing point between Nadlac and Csanadpalota in Hungary. According to documents, it was transporting the parts to Norway.
Police found 44 men, 18 women and 29 minors aged 2 to 17. The migrants told police they wanted to reach the Schengen zone. Hungary is a member, but Romania isn’t.

As one major European city after another gives way to the invader, one measure of how far along the conquest has advanced is the frequency of car-burnings.
These acts of arson are especially common on one annual holiday – New Year’s Eve – and during one season, namely summer. Earlier this year Robert Spencer quoted an article that traced the “custom” of European car burnings back to “Strasbourg, Germany and eastern France during the 1990’s.” They’re since spread elsewhere, notably to Muslim neighborhoods in the Swedish cities of Stockholm Gothenburg, and Malmö. They’re also especially big in Paris and other French cities, where in on New Years Eve 2012-13, at least 1,193 cars were torched.
On January 3, 2013, Time ran a piece by Bruce Crumley that, bizarrely, made light of all the car-burning. “Burn out the old year; torch in the new,” Crumley began, joking that France had kicked off 2013 “in its uniquely pyromaniac fashion.” He quipped about “France’s distinctive car-burning penchant,” about its “auto roasts,” about “flame-happy France,” about France’s “flaming-auto fetish.” Although Crumley brushed up against the truth – referring euphemistically to the fact that all these acts were taking place in “disadvantaged areas” and the so-called “projects” – he was careful to avoid using the word “Islam” or “Muslim.” No, the whole point of his piece was to spin the annual car fires as a quirky French tradition.

Sheriff Arpaio on Trial: Prosecution or Persecution?
Arizona’s Joe Arpaio, once known as “America’s toughest sheriff,” was back Monday where he has long been most at home — in the spotlight — although not for the reasons he would have preferred.
Months after losing his re-election bid, the 85-year-old former Maricopa County sheriff went on trial in Phoenix on misdemeanor criminal contempt-of-court charges, a case his foes have praised as long overdue and fans have denounced as a “political prosecution.”
Federal prosecutors argued that Mr. Arpaio willfully disobeyed a 2011 injunction barring him from enforcing federal immigration laws by detaining 170 suspected illegal aliens from December 2011 to May 2013.
After U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement refused to accept the suspects in 2012, the sheriff’s office tried a workaround by taking them to Border Patrol.

Secondary school locked in Islamic headscarf row – because new uniform is not modest enough (telegraph, Jun 26, 2017)

“A secondary school has become embroiled in a headscarf row with parents over plans to introduce a standardised veil for Muslim girls – with some complaining that the new headdresses are not modest enough.
Sir John Thursby Community College, Burnley, has been forced to clarify its position after an online petition was launched by parents warning that the new headscarves resemble a “swimming cap” and are “too short”.
Previously, girls wishing to wear a headscarf were permitted to choose their own style providing it was black, as is required by other secondary schools in the area.
But now a dispute has escalated between parents and staff at Sir John Thursby, after it unveiled plans for school-approved veils amid concerns that some were not being worn “correctly”.
According to the petition, which was set up earlier this year, the new veils are “ very displeasing” for pupils and pose a health and safety risk because it can “cause suffocation if it pulled back by another person.”
It continues: “Unfortunately there was very little consultation by parents or the girls attending the school. Consequently a scarf designed by the school has been created. It is very tight and in some cases too short as some of the girls have long hair and so it defeats the object to wear it.”
Signed by more than 150 people, the petition claims that some children have been told to remove their scarves and replace them with one approved by the school, which the authors allege is “not a choice but an ultimatum”.
It also questions the reasoning behind the new uniform, adding: “So what is the real agenda? It is to put girls off wearing one at all?”
Shah Hussain, councillor for Daneshouse and Stoneyholme, said that he had been contacted by several parents who had written to the school to voice their concerns.
“Children have told them it is not appropriate,” he added. “The whole point is it is supposed to protect the wearer’s modesty and that does not happen. They are quite unhappy about it.
“It is quite short and leaves the chest area not covered. The wearers are saying it should serve a purpose and if it is not serving the purpose why should they wear it? It has to be designed with the wearer in mind and the wearer helping to design it.”
Following the controversy, headmaster David Burton has written to parents to defend the policy and dismiss suggestions that the school is “against” headscarves as untrue.
“We are sorry that there have been suggestions that the school is against headscarves,” he wrote. “This is not true. We respect fully the wishes of girls to wear a headscarf and we always have done.
“Students, staff and parents had expressed some concerns that some students were not wearing headscarves correctly although the rules had not changed on headscarves.
“We looked towards changing the uniform policy to include a uniform headscarf as we were aware that a change needed to be considered. We started a consultation process in September and we are still collecting the views of parents.
“Once we have collected these views we will be discussing them with governors.””

We have been looking in the wrong direction. While the West was hoping temporarily to check Iran’s nuclear aspirations, Iran was making plans to advance on the ground and in the water — and the plans are unfolding nicely. For Iran.
After the U.S. withdrew from Iraq in 2011, large swaths of Iraqi territory were easily brought under Islamic State (ISIS) control, culminating in the proclamation in 2014 of “The Caliphate” with its seat in Mosul. Having denigrated its capabilities as “the JV team,” the Obama administration was desperate to get rid of ISIS, but the Iraqi army (trained and armed at a cost of $26 billion between 2006 and 2015 with another $1.6 billion spent in 2016) was unable to handle the job, even with American air power and Kurdish fighters as allies.
The Iraqi army has since been improved, but in the Sunni heartland of Iraq, Shiite “militias” have become America’s ally in the battle for Mosul. Some militias are Iraqi Arab Shiites and some are sponsored and commanded by Persian Shiite Iran. There is no love between the two, and certainly no love between any of the Shiite militias and the U.S.-sponsored Iraqi military. But the battle has largely gone against ISIS. Militias on one side and Iraqi forces on the other are recapturing territory amid evidence of outrageous human rights abuses against Iraqi civilians by all sides. At some point soon, Iraqis (army and militias), Iranians, Shiites, Sunnis, Kurds and Americans will be eyeball-to-eyeball in Mosul. This run-in raises two questions:
I think it was about a year ago when some articles came out about how Iran wants to establish a naval base in Syria and one in North Africa to expand their political influence in Europe and Africa. This would give Iran greater power to threaten Israel and Egypt and they may be thinking thinking of Egypt first. It would also give them bases to infiltrate terrorist into Europe and force the treasonous European politicians to pay as much attention to them as to Saudi and Turkey. In our thinking about Iran we tend to concentrate on the nukes and the Iranian actions in the Gulf. We forget their actions in Yeman and their desire to have control in the Red Sea as well as in the Med. Iran is thinking big and working to recreate the Persian Empire, recreate and expand. Look at the maps of the region around the Red Sea and around the Med. Think about the hell Iran can raise if they can gain control of areas that allow them to build and maintain two or more naval bases in the Med and in Yeman.
The left has worked a long time to make the ideas of European Empires unthinkable but given the options of European or Iranian bosses which would the natives in Africa choose?

The law passed earlier this month reflects the conflict between Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Hungarian-American financier George Soros, whose ideal of an “open society” is at odds with Orban’s desire to turn Hungary into an “illiberal state.”
Soros’ Open Society Foundations support some of the non-governmental organizations affected by the law, such as the Hungarian Helsinki Committee, a human rights advocate, and corruption watchdog Transparency International.
The government sees those groups as “foreign agents” working against Hungarian interests, especially by supporting the rights of asylum-seekers. Hungary has imposed strict measures to try to keep migrants out.
Orban reiterated his criticism of Soros on Tuesday, describing the wealthy philanthropist as “a speculator operating an extensive mafia network who endangers Europe’s peace and future.”
The Helsinki Committee and the Hungarian Civil Liberties Union say their financial situations are already “fully transparent.” They have announced boycotts and legal appeals of the law.”
