  1. New documents obtained by government watchdog group Judicial Watch show the IRS targeting scandal was more expansive than previously known and show IRS officials admitting the tactics used to hinder conservative groups were inappropriate. The documents, which total 695 pages, were previously withheld by the Obama administration from Congress and were not included in the Congressional investigation into IRS abuse.

“In an August 9, 2013, memo, Schiller admitted the IRS used political labels in targeting the groups for special scrutiny and possible audit and that, going forward, the agency would screen organizations based only on their activities, ‘not words’ or ‘labels of any kind,'” Judicial Watch found after issuing a FOIA lawsuit against the agency.

Further, the documents show IRS officials essentially bribed groups and offered tax exempt status in exchange for limited political activity. In other words, limiting opposition to President Obama’s agenda.

According to witnesses on the scene, the terminal was evacuated and agents were seen taping off the ship.

Emergency officials report no radiation has been detected at this time.

A dirty bomb is an explosive made with radioactive material.

  3. We wonder why the tower block in London has not collapsed, due to fire weakening the steel structure.

    • Fly a jet full of people at full throttle into it and it probably will. But i doubt it was designed to collapse that way.

      • Not just a jet at full throttle, but one with completely full fuel tanks whose subsequent conflagration elevated temperatures sufficiently to merely soften the building’s steel reinforcements.

No melting is necessary, just a nominal change in Young’s Modulus so that the steel’s structural properties are negatively altered. The stress loading of those softened steel supports will then complete the job.

Moutia Elzahed, 49, from Revesby, is facing nine charges of disrespectful behaviour in court for not standing when Sydney District Court Judge Audrey Balla entered or left the court room during a civil hearing in November and December 2016.
Ms Elzahed had brought a lawsuit against the NSW and Federal Police, claiming she was assaulted during a counter terror raid at her home in 2014.
She is the wife of convicted Islamic State recruiter Hamdi Alqudsi, who is currently serving a six-year jail sentence for helping young Australians travel to Syria to fight.
Ms Elzahed is the first person in NSW to be charged with the offence of disrespectful behaviour in court since it was introduced last year.
During the civil hearing, Ms Elzahed’s barrister Clive Evatt told the court his client “won’t stand for anyone except Allah”.
Today Ms Elzahed’s solicitor Zali Burrows said she has been speaking to two barristers about launching a constitutional challenge but could not provide any more details at this stage.
She said her client had not been disrespectful.
Ms Elzahed was supposed to appear before the Downing Centre Local Court today, but Ms Burrows said her client was unwell and could provide a medical certificate.
The matter will return to court on July 20.

  5. Japan approves contentious bill against planning crimes (abcnews, Jun 15, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/japan-approves-contentious-bill-planning-crimes-48048528

“Japan’s ruling coalition pushed a contentious bill through parliament Thursday that makes it a crime to plan a crime.

The government of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said the new law, which criminalizes the planning of 277 serious crimes, is needed to prevent terrorism, especially with the Olympics coming to Tokyo in 2020.

Opponents warned that authorities could use the legislation to limit free speech and public protests and expand surveillance of private citizens.

Abe told reporters after the vote that the government wants to use the law in a proper and effective way to protect lives and property.

The law applies to organized criminal groups of two or more people that have engaged in specific preparations for a crime, such as scouting a location, according to Japan’s Kyodo News service.

About 5,000 people protested against the bill outside parliament Wednesday, Kyodo said, as upper house lawmakers hotly debated the bill. Opposition parties used delaying tactics, with the jockeying continuing into the early morning hours.

In the end, the upper house approved the bill after the ruling Liberal Democratic Party and its coalition partner Komeito took the unusual step of bypassing committee approval, which normally precedes a vote by the full house.

The more powerful lower house passed the bill last month. At the time, opposition lawmakers in a lower house committee tried to rip documents from the hands of the chairman to prevent a committee vote.

The U.N. special rapporteur on the right to privacy, Joseph Cannataci, sent an open letter to Abe in May raising concerns over the bill. The letter expressed “serious concern” that the bill could affect the right to privacy and other freedoms if broadly applied.

Though the number of crimes covered has been reduced from more than 600 in earlier versions of the legislation, the letter noted that the bill includes crimes that have nothing to do with organized crime or terrorism, such as copyright violation and stealing lumber from forest reserves.

Yoshihide Suga, the chief cabinet secretary of Abe’s government, called Cannataci’s concerns “utterly incorrect.””

  6. Somali survivors tell of restaurant siege by rebels; 31 dead (abcnews, Jun 15, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/somali-extremists-bloody-restaurant-siege-night-48048530

“Islamic extremists attacked a popular Somalia restaurant in an overnight siege and killed 31 people — many at point-blank range — before they were slain by security forces, police said Thursday.

Survivors described harrowing scenes of hiding under tables and behind curtains as the five gunmen hunted for victims in the darkened Pizza House restaurant. Nearly 40 people were wounded.

Al-Shabab claimed responsibility for the attack, which began Wednesday evening with a car bomb exploding at the gate to the restaurant and ended when troops secured the site after dawn, said senior police Capt. Mohamed Hussein.

“I never thought I would have the chance to see the sun again. They were killing people on sight,” university student Saida Hussein told The Associated Press. She said she survived by hiding behind a large table.

Soldiers in gun-mounted vehicles surrounded the building, and troops later entered the ground floor as al-Shabab snipers defended their positions upstairs. The battle to end the siege was hampered by darkness, Hussein said…”

  7. Laws would make aspiring Australians pledge to share values (abcnews, Jun 15, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/law-make-australians-pledge-share-values-48049502

“Aspiring Australian citizens will have to make a pledge to share Australian values under proposed new laws introduced to Parliament on Thursday.

The law would give Immigration and Border Protection Minister Peter Dutton power to write and revise an Australian Values Statement and it would reduce avenues to appeal his decisions on citizenship cases. The bill does not spell out what Australian values are and critics argue that getting Australians to agree on what values they share is difficult.

Dutton said citizenship laws had to be reinforced to maintain public support for immigration and the value of citizenship during an increasingly challenging security environment.

“The Australian community expects that aspiring citizens demonstrate their allegiance to our country and commitment to live in accordance with Australian laws and values and be willing to integrate into and become contributing members of the Australian community,” Dutton told Parliament.

Dutton said the values statement would cover respect for religious freedom and gender equality as well as commitment to the rule of law and Australia’s parliamentary democracy.

There would also be values-based questions included in a citizenship test.

The bill would also raise the bar on English-language skills for prospective citizens and extends the time that an applicant must be an Australian permanent resident from one to four years.

Kim Rubenstein, a professor in the College of Law and a Public Policy Fellow at the Australian National University, said aspects of the bill were draconian and exclusive, shifting the balance of citizenship in Australia and giving the government unprecedented power.

“One of the most fundamental Australian values is a commitment to the rule of law and Western democratic liberal principles, but this act really shows a lack of appreciation of these core Australian values,” said Rubenstein, author of “Australian Citizenship Law in Context.”

“By introducing this bill, they’re failing their own citizenship test, if Australian values are so fundamental,” she added.

Activist group GetUp! said the law would create an underclass of migrants prevented from attaining citizenship and from equality with the rest of society.

Law Council of Australia President Fiona McLeod, a leading advocate for the legal profession, said the law overreached by giving Dutton power to overturn citizenship rulings made by the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, a court that hears public complaints about government decisions.

The conservative coalition government does not hold a majority of seats in the Senate and will need the support of the opposition Labor Party or a diverse collection of minor parties and independent senators to pass the bill into law. Opposition leader Bill Shorten has said Labor would consider the changes.

It is not clear whether Dutton would pen the values statement before or after the bill became law.

Australia introduced a formal citizenship test in 2007. Before then, a government official would informally question an applicant about his or her knowledge of a citizen’s responsibilities and privileges in an oral test.

Rubenstein was part of a review team in 2008 that recommended shifting the 2007 citizenship test focus from general knowledge about Australia to the responsibilities and rights of citizens.

She said the proposed new approach reminded her of the system in the early 20th century when applicants who wanted to migrate to Australia could be asked to take a dictation test in any European language that an official chose. The test was designed to exclude Asian and black immigrants.

“It does smack of that earlier xenophobic approach to who is in and who is out and I think it creates tension with the very vibrant, affirming and cohesive multicultural society that we have. This is a real step away from that,” Rubenstein said.”

  8. A partial list of threats against GOP and Trump from Hollywood celebrities

The Bernie Sanders supporter who tried to kill numerous GOP lawmakers did not commit his violent acts in a vacuum. James Hodgkinson may have pulled the trigger that critically wounded House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and 2 others. But the hysterical threats of violence against Republicans and President Trump could not have escaped his notice.

Hodgkinson was a regular viewer of Rachel Maddow’s MSNBC show and worshipped Bernie Sanders. There is little doubt that someone so immersed in left wing politics could have failed to hear the calls for blood and violence against Republicans.

Breitbart has a list of 15 Hollywood celebrities who made overt ahd chilling threats against the GOP and President Trump.

  9. IS claims it’s taken bin Laden’s Afghan hideout of Tora Bora (abcnews, Jun 15, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/claims-bin-ladens-afghan-hideout-tora-bora-48049503

“The Islamic State group said its fighters have captured Osama bin Laden’s infamous Tora Bora mountain hideout in eastern Afghanistan but the Taliban on Thursday dismissed the claim, saying they were still in control of the cave complex that once housed the former al-Qaida leader.

Earlier, IS released an audio recording, saying its signature black flag was flying over the hulking mountain range. The message was broadcast on the militants’ Radio Khilafat station in the Pashto language late on Wednesday.

It also said IS has taken over several districts and urged villagers who fled the fighting to return to their homes and stay indoors.

A Taliban spokesman denied IS was in control, claiming instead that the Taliban had pushed IS back from some territory the rival militants had taken in the area…”

  10. Camille Paglia: On Trump, Democrats, Transgenderism, and Islamist Terror
In a wide-ranging interview Paglia talks about Donald Trump’s successes, how Chuck Schumer emboldened the “resistance,” why the left can’t condemn Islamist terrorism, and “the cold biological truth that sex changes are impossible.”

Camille Paglia is one America’s smartest and most fearless writers. Like Elvis, she’s the kind of superstar who really needs no introduction—though it is worth pointing out that Pantheon has just published a collection of her essays on sex, gender, and feminism, titled Free Women, Free Men. It’s fantastic and if you love her work, it’s must-reading. (And there’s another collection due out in the Fall of 2018, which is more good news.)

Last week I sat down with Paglia over email to talk about Donald Trump, Islamist terrorism, and the transgender crusade. Here’s a transcript of our conversation:

  11. Top French right-winger left unconscious after campaign clash

Paris (AFP) – A top candidate for France’s right-wing Republicans, Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet, was left unconscious Thursday after a clash with a protestor while out campaigning for this weekend’s legislative elections in Paris.

Kosciusko-Morizet, widely known by her initials NKM, was insulted by a man while visiting a market in central Paris and then lost her balance when he tried to throw her campaign leaflets in her face, an AFP journalist at the scene said.

After falling, she blacked out for several minutes possibly after hitting her head, before being revived by emergency services.

Her aggressor, a middle-aged man in a shirt and chinos, left the scene immediately.

NKM, 44, is campaigning ahead of the second round of France’s parliamentary election this Sunday.

The former minister and spokeswoman under ex-president Nicolas Sarkozy faces a battle to win a seat in her central Paris constituency against Gilles Le Gendre from the Republic on the Move party of President Emmanuel Macron.

  12. Left Wing Extremist Offences Up 112 Per Cent in Austria (breitbart, Jun 15, 2017)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/06/15/left-wing-extremism-up-112-per-cent-austria/

“Left wing extremist offences have risen considerably in the last year according to Austrian officials who say that Islamic terror is still the most pressing danger.

The new report, presented by the Austrian Federal Office for Constitutional Protection and Counterterrorism (BVT), shows that criminal offences involving left wing extremists rose 112 per cent in 2016.

A total of 383 offences were recorded by police compared to 186 in 2015 whilst there were 463 criminal reports opposed to 312 in 2015, Kronen Zeitung reports.

The BVT say 46.5 per cent of the cases involved left wing activists damaging campaign posters and other material of former anti-mass migration Freedom Party presidential candidate Norbert Hofer during last year’s election campaign.

Other incidents have been much more violent such as the attack on the anti-mass migration Identitarian youth movement co-leader Martin Sellner at a Vienna metro station by members of the so-called “anti-fascist action” group. Sellner was forced to use a pepper spray gun on his attackers who subsequently fled after punching and kicking him.

Whilst the number of right wing offences, which included anti-immigrant, anti-Islam, and anti-Semitic incidents, numbered far greater at 1,313, the increase was much smaller at only 13.6 per cent. The increase in 2016 was lower than the increase in 2015, according to the report.

BVT director Peter Gridling said Islamic extremism was still the biggest security threat to the country. “As we have seen many times in Europe, religiously motivated Islamic extremism and terrorism is still the greatest threat to the security of democratic Western states,” he said.

“At the end of 2016, 296 people were known to us who were travelling from Austria to the Syrian or Iraqi regions, but we were able to prevent 51 from leaving the country. Ninety returned to Austria and 45 persons were killed in the fighting area. The rest are still abroad,” Gridling added.

Left wing extremism has also been on the rise in Germany where in certain areas like Berlin, they frequently clash with police. A study showed that most of the extremists were young men who overwhelmingly still lived with their parents and most had no job and no girlfriends.

Leipzig is another German city with a large left wing extremist scene. A report from anti-mass migration non-governmental organisation Einprozent claimed there had been 22 cases of left wing violence in the city in 2016.

Several of the attacks were aimed at the anti-mass migration Alternative for Germany party which included the torching of several cars including then-leader of the party Frauke Petry.”

  13. Judges Rule it Would ‘Not Be Fair’ to Deport Paedophile Refugee (breitbart, Jun 15, 2017)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/06/15/judges-not-fair-deport-paedophile-refugee/

“Paedophile refugee Wilfred Mosira will not be deported to his native Zimbabwe despite being in no danger there because it would “not be fair”, according to judges at the Court of Appeal.

Mosira, 31, was convicted on two counts of “sexual activity with an underage girl who was 13” in 2012 and received a short three-year sentence, reports the Daily Mail.

It appears he only served part of this sentence in custody, as by 2014 a probation officer was warning he “posed a high risk of committing further sex offences”. However, the officer rowed back from this in 2015, claiming he had gone on to establish a “healthy and supportive relationship with a partner”.

Lord Justice Philip Sales, who has been accused of being a beneficiary of cronyism under Tony Blair’s government in the past, conceded: “There is no dispute that this constituted serious criminal offending [and] also no dispute that Mr Mosira qualifies as a foreign criminal.”

But he ruled against the Government, which has been tied up in court trying to deport the refugee for four-and-a-half years, despite acknowledging he faced no threat of persecution in his native Zimbabwe, saying this would “not be fair”.

Mosira’s legal team had argued he should not be deported because he had ties to Robert Mugabe’s opposition. This was found to be false by judges in lower courts, who pointed out that Mosira had travelled to Zimbabwe as recently as 2010 with no issues…”

  14. Norwegian Officials Deny ‘No Go Zones’ in Migrant Suburb Despite Weeks of Arson, Attacks on Police (breitbart, Jun 15, 2017)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/06/15/swedish-no-go-zone-conditions-migrant-norway-suburb-arson-violence/

“Oslo city representatives have blamed three weeks of arson and violence against police by “youths” in the migrant-dominated Norwegian suburb of Stovner on young people feeling “rootless and restless”.

District Director Elf Humborstad Sørland told Norwegian broadcaster NRK: “There is a general problem that many young people are out too late in the evenings.”

The district of Stovner, which according to Statistics Norway has one the highest immigrant populations in the country at over 50 per cent, has seen three weeks of youths setting cars on fire and throwing stones at police, ambulance personnel, and the fire brigade responding to the fires.

Lars Norbom, general secretary of Oslo’s ‘Ravens’ neighbourhood watch organisation, acknowledged the high proportion of migrants involved in the violence. Speculating the youth gangs, who live in low socio-economic conditions, feel “excluded”, “rootless and restless”, he urged the engagement of mosques and NGOs to improve the conditions of young migrants.

Despite the reports of violence against police and there being 20 reported cases of arson from January to March alone, Stovner Police Chief John Roger Lund has denied the Oslo suburb is suffering from “Swedish conditions” where police “run when attacked” in migrant no-go zones, stating: “Here, the youngsters run when we arrive.”

Police Inspector Lund believes there are only a “small number of youngsters” aged 17 to 19 behind the attacks and arson, and have detained and let go several young men.

Speaking to Aftenposten, the chief would not state whether the youths were part of a “gang environment”, but confirmed suspects are “known to police”. Police said they could not provide information about the ethnicity of the gang members.

However, Norway’s Human Rights Service, an organisation praised by ex-Muslim and activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali, has accused the media and Norwegian authorities of “hushing up” the reports of crimes and violence in migrant-heavy neighbourhoods.

“As we know, media and politicians have tried to tell us over time that we do not have ‘Swedish conditions’ – conditions that Swedish media and politicians will not recognise even though the awakening in neighbouring countries has begun,” organiser Rita Karlsen wrote.

U.S. President Donald Trump was chastised by media and political figures in February for linking mass migration and rising violence in Sweden. Hours later, a riot in the migrant no-go zone of Rinkeby broke out with cars set ablaze and shops looted in what a journalist on the scene described as being “like a warzone”. Police were pushed back after a group of 30 rioters pelted them with stones.

Frequent arson attacks also occur in high-immigrant districts of France, with French authorities being accused of a cover-up after claiming New Year’s Eve 2016/2017 “went off without any major incident” despite more than 1,000 cars being torched.”

  15. Sweden: Migrant Stabs Passengers When Woman in Hijab Asked to Show Train Ticket, Blames ‘Racism’ (breitbart, Jun 15, 2017)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/06/15/sweden-migrant-cries-racism-when-woman-in-hijab-asked-to-show-train-ticket-attacks-passengers-with-knife/

“An Iraqi man travelling from Stockholm to Hallsberg by train launched a brutal attack on passengers after a Muslim woman was asked to show her ticket, accusing them all of racism.
Karim Alaa Hussain, 25, became infuriated when the unnamed woman, who was wearing a veil, was asked to show her rail ticket by a female conductor.

The Muslim woman complained she had already been asked to show her ticket once before, although eyewitnesses say the conductor was “polite and correct”.

Hussain took a different view, according to a report by Fria Tider, corroborated by court documents seen by Breitbart London.

Hussain sprang to his feet and demanded to know why the conductor had asked to see the woman’s ticket, refusing to accept her explanation that she was “only doing her job” and he became “extremely intimidating”.

Other passengers intervened to try and calm him down, but this only increased his anger. He accused them of racism, threatening one of the men in particular and striking him in the face.

Alarmed, Hussain’s victim wrestled him to the floor – but the Iraqi managed to break free and produced a long kitchen knife, stabbing the man four times in the side and back and inflicting critical internal wounds.

Witnesses describe how Hussain then strode around the train cabin “as if he had won the national championship”, brandishing his bloody knife at the terrified passengers and demanding a father and his daughter tell him if they were “also racists”.

Hussain then began lecturing his captive audience on equality, instructing them that everyone was of “equal value” and demanding they show respect while his victim lay bleeding.

When the train stopped Hussain fled and hid in a nearby garden, but was apprehended by the police.

He told officers he had acted in self-defence and was “proud” of what he had done, but the judge did not accept this, handing him a nominal eight-and-a-half-year sentence.

Hussain has an extremely long criminal record, and should have been serving a three-and-a-half-year sentence for a variety of offences at the time of his attack – but was released early.

He will not be deported from Sweden after his current sentence is completed, having been awarded EU citizenship in 2008 despite having already wracked up several convictions.”

  16. GOP congresswoman receives threatening email reading ‘One down, 216 to go’
By Howard Portnoy June 14, 2017

I begin this post with solemn news. The latest reports indicate that Rep. Steve Scalise is in critical condition. A statement from the congressman’s office reads:

Prior to entering surgery, the Whip was in good spirits and spoke to his wife by phone. He is grateful for the brave actions of U.S. Capitol Police, first responders, and colleagues. We ask that you keep the Whip and others harmed in this incident in your thoughts and prayers.

Will do — especially in light of an email received this afternoon by Claudia Tenney ?
    50%
, a freshman congresswoman from upstate New York, who, according to New York’s Daily News, received an email this afternoon with the subject line “One down, 216 to go.” It is unclear whether the “one” is a macabre reference to Steve Scalise, but the meaning of the “216” is abundantly clear.

The text of the email reads in part:

Did you NOT expect this? When you take away ordinary peoples very lives in order to pay off the wealthiest among us, your own lives are forfeit.

Certainly, your souls and morality were lost long before. Good riddance.

The true identity of the sender is unknown, and it is possible that this message is nothing more than an idle threat by some moron blowing off steam. But the seriousness of the threat cannot be overemphasized. The Left has declared war on members of the party in control of the federal government. Yes, these actions run completely counter to everything liberals claims to stand for and hold dear. Yes, they shows how utterly confused and hypocritical they the Left is as a group. But that doesn’t diminish the gravity of the threat they now pose to the sanctity of like in this country

  17. Scabies Cases Drastically Rising Amongst Migrants on Paris Streets (breitbart, Jun 15, 2017)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/06/15/scabies-cases-drastically-rising-paris-streets/

“NGOs working with migrants on the streets of Paris have warned that cases of scabies are on the rise, claiming there are well over a hundred cases so far.

The scabies skin infection is becoming more and more common amongst migrants living on the streets of the French capital. The infection, which is caused by mites and causes scabs and itching on the skin, has been seen 157 times by the reception centre at Porte De Le Chapelle since November 2016, L’Express reports.

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) have also confirmed seeing 164 scabies infection cases since the end of December. They blame the squalid conditions in which the migrants live for the rapid spread of the infection.

The reception centre at Porte De Le Chapelle has tried to counter the trend by offering medical services to migrants which include showers, clean clothing, and new bedding, but the infection rate continues to rise.

The problem, according to pro-migrant groups, is that migrants wear the same clothing and move around a lot making treatment only partially effective. They say the only way to get rid of the problem entirely would be to permanently house migrants.

Whilst scabies itself is not life threatening, many health practitioners are concerned that left unchecked the infections could lead to complications including “superinfections” that are resistant to antibiotic treatment…”

  18. Unity? What unity? For the Left, it was business as usual minutes after shootings
By Howard Portnoy June 15, 2017

    Yesterday, Speaker Paul Ryan ?
    51%
and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi ?
    11%
both addressed the House about the need for unity, and how yesterday’s shootings were a reminder that, when all is said and done, Congress is really one big, happy family. Big maybe. But happy? Not so much. Members of Congress can’t go around declaring to the American people that the other party wants them to die, then kiss and make up when a calamity occurs.

Out here beyond the Beltway, it was business as usual within hours of the shootings. Twitter lit up with obscenities like the following:

AUSTRIA VIENNA JUNE 14 2017
WIEN – Imame unterzeichnen Deklaration gegen Extremismus

  20. VIENNA – AUSTRIA – Isis condemned by 300 Austrian Muslim imams who sign declaration against ‘extremism, violence and terror’

‘These terrorists misuse our peaceful Islam religion to reach their political goals’

Around 300 imams in Austria have signed a declaration calling Isis the “black sheep” of the Islamic faith and called for fellow Muslims to take a greater role in society.

The Islamic Religious Community of Austria (IGGÖ) signed the declaration against “extremism, violence and terror” in Vienna which “holds that atrocities of the IS terrorists are contrary to Islam and must be condemned most severely”.

“These IS terrorists misuse our peaceful Islam religion to reach their political goals,” it added.

Around 180 imams who signed gathered outside a mosque in the city to unfurl a banner saying “United against extremism and terror”.

?IGGÖ President Ibrahim Olgun said in a speech that “a religion that stands for peace can not have fundamentalist, terrorist or radical features” and that the Islamic faith was “polluted” by the actions of violent extremists.

The declaration said: “We, the Austrian imams, will continue to do everything they can to maintain peaceful coexistence here in Austria as part of this society.

“Nothing will stop us from using ourselves for peace, freedom, justice, equal opportunities for men and women, and social security based on reason and solidarity, and to make our active contribution to the preservation of society.”

It quoted a passage from the Quran which said “when a man kills a man, it is as if he had killed all mankind, and whoever saved a man’s life is like saving all mankind”.

The move comes as the Austrian parliament passed a controversial law which banned burqas in public last month, which is due to come into force in October, despite the fact that only a tiny majority of women in the country wear the full-face veil. [ tiny majority ] 🙂 🙂 🙂

The provision will not apply to the hijab, which only covers the head and neck.

The ban has been criticised as a knee-jerk reaction to the rise of the populist Freedom Party of Austria which narrowly lost the presidential election to Green candidate Alexander Van der Bellen after a rerun of the vote in December 2016.

The first result in spring of that year, which was annulled after it was found some absentee ballots had been counted too early, resulted in a victory of just 0.3 per cent for Mr Van der Bellen in the second round.

Freedom Party candidate Norbert Hofer won the first round with 35 per cent of the vote to Mr Van der Bellen’s 21.3 per cent.

Austria has not suffered the same extremist attacks on its own soil as its European neighbours. [ ..... I guess they mean "... not yet ,,," ....]

But some 300 people out of a population of 8.7m have travelled to Syria to fight since the civil war began – one of the highest per capita numbers in Europe, according to the Guardian.

  22. Germany: Hearing of man ‘who kicked woman down subway stairs’ postponed

The hearing of a man who is accused of pushing a woman down the stairs of Hermannstrasse subway station, was halted before a sentence could be found in Berlin, Thursday.

Lisa Jani, court spokesperson (German): “The defendant has been accused of three crimes – one grievous bodily harm and two exhibitionist actions. In October last year at the subway station Hermannstrasse he allegedly heavily kicked an unknown woman, who fell down because of this. The aggrieved party, according to the accusation, fell from the stairs and was injured. As far as I know, she allegedly had a head laceration and a broken arm due the fall. The other crimes allegedly occurred two weeks earlier, when the defendant allegedly exposed himself in public to women and carried out sexual acts on himself.”

Lisa Jani, court spokesperson (German): “Before the hearing of the accusation, the defence has filed a bias petition and a denial plea against one of the two jurors, a women. The juror has supposedly expressed herself sceptically in a reader’s letter concerning those responsible in the fight against youth criminality. This reader’s letter was read here today together with other letters supposedly written by the juror about other topics.”

Lisa Jani, court spokesperson (German): “The court has halted the main hearing for today and is going to examine these events and is going to give the juror the possibility to comment the defence presentation. A conclusion will be reached on a second hearing day.”

Christina Schwarzer, representative of the district of Neukolln (German): “We have been discussing for some months to have more video protection, not only in subway stations, but also in the city. My vote is clear: we need more video protection in places with high level of crime for the citizens to feel safer.”

Christina Schwarzer, representative of the district of Neukolln (German): “Video cameras probably will not stop a criminal from committing a crime, but it can be helpful afterwards – as we have seen it in this case – to capture the assailant. It’s not about the anonymity in this big city, but rather what is important is to capture the criminal and that’s what we have positively achieved in this case.

    • Justice delayed is justice denied.

The German court will use this postponement to weasel out of handing down any harsh punishment.

  23. Germany presents racism action plan, invests millions into preventing extremism

Germany’s Family and Interior Ministries have announced a new national action plan against racism. In tackling extremism, some 100 million euros are to be specifically invested in preventing Islamist radicalization.

Newly-appointed Family and Youth Minister Katarina Barley (SPD) on Wednesday called to further strengthen efforts to prevent all forms of extremism, calling for a federal law on the prevention of extremism to stabilize projects and initiatives against, for example, right-wing extremism.
Although there is now more money available for prevention, “we aren’t yet on target,” Barley said on Wednesday.

Announcing the findings of a report into extremism prevention, Barley said at a press conference in Berlin that in fighting Islamist extremism, “we must not wait until young people have become radicalized.”

“Security and prevention must go hand in hand,” she added.

According to Barley, prevention work must begin where the threat is particularly high, for example in the school yard, on the internet, and also in the prisons.

    100-million-euro investment

As part of Germany’s 2018 “national prevention program” against extremism, some 100 million euros will be invested into specifically combating Islamist extremism. Some funds will be allocated to supporting mosque communities, while money will also be invested in expanding the prevention of radicalization online.

In the crackdown on Islamist radicalization, Barley rejected demands made earlier this month, however, to allow the surveillance of minors who may be involved in Islamist groups.

“Minors have already committed serious acts of violence,” Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann told the Funke media group, adding that Germany “must consequently deal” with such cases.

Barley on Wednesday described Herrmann’s demand as a “misguided approach,” arguing that children should be protected from slipping into radicalized violence.

Germany’s governing “grand coalition” has already reduced the minimum age for monitoring by Germany’s intelligence agencies from 16 to 14 years.

“Every euro we invest [in prevention] is a very well-spent euro, as it serves to create security,” Barley said.

    National anti-racism action plan

Together with Parliamentary State Secretary in the Interior Ministry, Günter Krings (CDU), Barley also presented on Wednesday the updated National Action Plan against Racism.

In principle, the aim is to “show clear boundaries, regardless of where discrimination occurs, whether in leisure time, online or in the workplace,” Barley said.

At the center of the new action plan are issues including human rights policy, protection against discrimination in daily life, for example in the workplace, as well as the punishment of criminal offenses.

Other elements include education and political education, as well as racism and hate speech online.

On the basis of the coalition agreement, the action plan has also been expanded to cover the issues of homosexuality and transphobia.

    – Homophobic crimes in Germany up almost 20 percent

Greens politician Volker Beck criticized the plan, however, saying it was lacking in concrete proposals for action.

“Instead of binding measures, only the current situation of gays, lesbians, bi-, trans- and intersexuals was described,” Beck said.

Petra Pau, a member of the executive committee of the leftist Linke faction, and member of the inquiry committee into the right-wing extremist National Socialist Underground (NSU), welcomed the action plan and increase in subsidies for social initiatives against right-wing extremism and racism.

“So far so good,” she said in a statement, adding, however, that the subsidies are limited in time: “This is ineffective and short-sighted, as the fight against right-wing extremism and racism requires continuity and endurance.”

  24. Tennessee man who planned attack against Muslim community sentenced to 20 years in prison

A former Tennessee Valley Authority engineer who was convicted of soliciting people to attack a Muslim community was sentenced to a maximum 20 years in prison Wednesday.

Calling him a distinct “danger and threat to the citizens of the United States of America,” U.S. District Judge Curtis Collier ordered Robert Doggart to serve a 235-month sentence and have a mental health evaluation.

“You are not a monster,” Collier told the 65-year-old man. “I have never sentenced a monster. In many respects, you lived a life of honor. But you’re not standing here to be sentenced for that.”

Prosecutors said Doggart, a former 2014 congressional candidate, believed a Muslim town called Islamberg near Hancock, N.Y., was a terrorist training camp focused on attacking New York City or poisoning the Delaware River. Law enforcement has said no evidence supports that conclusion. But dead-set on his belief, Doggart tried to recruit political outsiders from right-wing social media sites between January and April 2015 to attack the 70-acre commune. Among them, however, was a confidential informant who began taping their conversations. The idea was to create a “flash point,” for homegrown militias to rebel against the federal government, which Doggart believed was going to impose martial law on April 15, 2015, prosecutors said. And it fit squarely into the definition of terrorism: to influence government decisions through intimidation.

<strong"It's not just a war with Islam or Islamberg," `explained Saeed Mody, a prosecutor from the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division. “It’s a war with the federal government.”

Prosecutors never charged Doggart with terrorism. But they sought Wednesday to convince Collier that many factors should be used to enhance Doggart’s sentence. While Doggart was convicted in February of one count of solicitation to commit a civil rights violation, one count of solicitation to burn down a mosque , and two counts of threats via interstate, Collier threw a curveball earlier this month when he agreed with defense attorneys to dismiss two of the guilty verdicts. That reduced the maximum punishment Doggart faced from 40 years to 20 years.

Specifically, prosecutors wanted to use federal guidelines that would increase Doggart’s sentence for hate crimes, terrorism, and being the leader of his plot. Collier denied the last request, questioning why the government never brought conspiracy charges, but agreed to the other two factors.

Defense attorneys, who declined to comment afterward, countered Doggart never committed a violent crime in his life, suffered from a narcissistic personality disorder, and hung with a political crowd that fueled his ego. FBI agents never found any evidence he’d packed his clothes or planned to leave for New York after Doggart was arrested April 10, 2015, attorney Leslie Cory said.

She called four witnesses who said Doggart had a habit of saying things for “shock value” and attention and never following through. He never harbored any racial animosity toward others but seemed unhinged sometimes. One family member explained how, about 15 years ago around the time of his divorce, he called her at work, saying he had slit his wrists.

Doggart denied everything when confronted by family members about the episode, which turned out to be a fabrication.

“I do not believe he would have ever committed an act of violence,” said Theresa Lee, one of his daughters. “However, he embellishes and uses a lot of verbiage most would roll their eyes at.”

Lee glanced at the defense table where Doggart was seated. “Sorry, dad.”

When he had an opportunity to address the court, Doggart mentioned a plea deal he entered into with prosecutors in 2015 that Collier later rejected. Prosecutors promised to not to bring more charges if he agreed to those terms, Doggart said.

“That is a lie,” Doggart said Wednesday, referencing the stronger, four-count indictment grand jurors returned against him a year later.

Doggart put three exhibits on the court’s projector system: One detailed “the inverse law of Jihad,” the other was an essay against grand jury systems, and a third showed a flow chart that challenged the government’s understanding of his plan.

Doggart, handcuffed and wearing a light-blue jumpsuit, read definitions for the words “plan,” “solicitation” and “threat.” He estimated the government spent $3.1 million surveilling him for a few months. He said supervised release was cheaper per year than prison. He said he never hated Islam and was targeted for his demographic as an old white male. And he insisted the FBI’s confidential informant called him 14 times and that he only called him back three times because he’d missed some messages.

“Meetings would have never occured otherwise,” Doggart explained of the confidential informant’s involvement.

He ultimately apologized, to his family and to the residents of Islamberg.

“I read your letters,” Doggart said, before explaining that he only wanted to ensure Islamberg wasn’t planning to attack New York. “I request your forgiveness. Please, please.”

Perry Piper, an assistant U.S. attorney in Chattanooga, said the government didn’t ask for a specific sentence, “but we want something substantial given the lack of remorse, the blame shifting.”

“The defendant wants to say everyone else is at fault. The FBI — if they’d just talked to him, everything would be OK,” Piper argued. “How can one fault the people of Islamberg for thinking he was a danger when he kept telling people he was?”

Collier, who agreed to release Doggart on home detention in May 2015 to some criticism, told the 65-year-old his speech made it hard to trust him.

“How can I as a judge, bound to uphold the law, trust in you?” Collier asked. “Your comments about demographics? Judges have to do things based on the law. Many people were displeased when the court let you out on bond. You’re going to be displeased by the court’s sentence.”

  26. Terrorism experts awaken to disturbing increase in leftist violence

Wednesday’s shooting in Virginia that appeared to target Republican lawmakers highlights a trend that terrorism experts have been monitoring in recent months: the ramping up of violence committed by the left.

“This is something we’re very concerned about,” said Brian Levin, director of the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University-San Bernardino. “The violence is not indigenous to just one side of the political spectrum. While other entities are farther along, this emergent hard left has coalesced.

“And we can’t just ignore it.”

The attack, which occurred during a congressional baseball practice early Wednesday, critically wounded U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise, the third-ranking Republican in House leadership. Two Capitol Hill police officers and at least two others also were shot.

  27. Supreme Court decision on birthright citizenship further clouds issue

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Supreme Court’s birthright citizenship ruling yesterday could serve as both a help and a hindrance to efforts by the Trump administration and GOP lawmakers to implement stricter immigration laws.

First the hindrance: Yesterday’s ruling striking down a federal birthright citizenship law because it discriminated on the basis of gender is bad news for the prospect of the court upholding President Trump’s revised travel ban.

As lower appellate courts blocking Trump’s order have cited, the president’s broad immigration powers are not unchecked by the Constitution’s ban on discrimination. Yesterday’s high court ruling, albeit on different facts and involving a law passed by Congress, essentially upheld that same principle.

“Generally speaking, it is an important affirmation from the court that it has a duty to examine the constitutionality of federal laws, even the nationality and immigration arena,” said Sandra Park, senior staff attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union Women’s Rights Project.

    http://www.gopusa.com/?p=25754?omhide=true

Richard: If the Repubs in Congress will get their act together and pass this it will generate a lot of votes for them. Changing the law so the Mother or Father has to have lived in the US for 10 years before the baby is given citizenship will eliminate a lot of the incentive for illegal aliens.

  28. Killing Republicans to Save Health Care and the Planet
The Left’s incitement to violence leads to terrorism.
    June 15, 2017
    Daniel Greenfield

The Democratic National Committee announced that Resistance Summer would begin in June. James Hodgkinson, a Bernie Sanders volunteer, delivered by opening fire on Republicans playing baseball.

Hodgkinson had spent the weeks before the shooting staring at the site of his future attack and working on his laptop. What was he doing on his laptop? Ranting about Trump and Republicans.

The left-wing terrorist who opened fire on Republicans practicing for a charity baseball game, an event to which they had brought their children, didn’t come up with his own ideas. His Facebook pages were dumpsters rotting with reposted left-wing hate. There was Bill Moyers’ Resistance plan along with Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Rachel Maddow, Robert Reich and Noam Chomsky.

They helped shape Hodgkinson’s conviction that Republicans had to be destroyed. Or as the title of a Facebook group that he belonged to put it, “Terminate the Republican Party.”

James Hodgkinson did his best in a Virginia park. And he wasn’t a lone lunatic. Not by a long shot.

  29. The Real Problem With The Public Theater’s Caesar Isn’t Killing Trump
    June 15, 2017
    Daniel Greenfield

After the initial outrage over the Public Theater’s production of Julius Caesar with a cartoonish version of Trump as the titular figure, defenders struck back by listing other productions that featured presidential stand-ins including Hillary and Obama.

But of course that’s not the point.

Other productions may have chosen to butcher the Bard in tacky fashion. But the real dividing line is not just whether Caesar is linked to a particular president, but the larger depiction and message.

The Public Theater’s Trump is a vulgar and contemptible figure. His killing is bloody and grotesque in ways that are satisfying to a ghoulish leftist audience. Antony and Octavius are uniquely contemptible. The audience is pushed to identify with the conspirators played by minorities. The political messaging is not subtle.

The production does everything possible to tilt the production short of actually rewriting the lines. It limits this to a few tacky insertions.

The Acting Theater’s Obama production did not set out to caricature and then cheerfully kill him on stage. Had it done so, the backlash would have been immediate and ruthless as a certain rodeo clown who wore an Obama mask during his routine found out.

The governor of Missouri stated that the performance, which involved Obama being chased by a bull, did not “reflect the values of Missourians”. The lieutenant governor “implored” the governor to “hold the people responsible for the other night accountable”. Senator McCaskill called it “shameful.” Congressman William Clay called it, “an ugly face of intolerance”.

The Kansas City Star described the bull run as “borderline illegal”. “The U.S. Secret Service takes threats against the president seriously,” its editorial said. “While the president himself was in no danger here, it’s the kind of stupid activity that could give nuts ideas about harming the president.”

Asked about it Wednesday, a White House spokesman said that it was not one of Missouri’s “finer moments.”

This is what the left did when it was in power. It quickly decided to forget that.

The issue is not simply that Trump is killed on stage. It’s whether the audience is meant to sympathize with the act. And in the Public Theater’s production, despite the protestations that it’s a warning about the dangers of extremism, the audience is at least meant to feel pulled toward the motives of the killers.

  30. “I’m Not Afraid of the Police, I’m a Muslim.”
    June 15, 2017
    Daniel Greenfield

Sounds about right. We all know there’s no such thing as Islamic terrorism. And thus no need to do anything about it.

The jihadist sent the Prime Minister’s office an email titled “terrorist Israel” in July 2014. It read: “Something needs to be done to stop Israel or we Muslims will get our revenge. We will wage jihad and slaughter every Israeli and their allies.”

The following month Ahmed began working as a security guard on London’s Crossrail project through a security firm.

He sent further threatening emails to the Australian government, Ofsted and a Sun journalist, warning: “May the British child burning soldiers burn in hell… cowards piss on their graves.”

Ahmed had sent death threats to staff at The French Bookshop in South Kensington on January 17, 2015 with the subheading: “Protect your neck while you are still alive.”

He then made two threatening phone calls to the shop on 22 January, telling the owner: “I’m going to come and stab you, I’m going to come right away and blow up the shop: I’m not afraid of the police, I’m a Muslim.”

  31. Germany’s biggest Islamic group slams Muslim ‘peace march’

BERLIN: Germany’s biggest Islamic association on Wednesday said it won’t take part in what is being billed as a Muslim “peace march” against terrorism over the weekend.

The Turkish-Islamic Union said the demonstration in Germany’s western city of Cologne would send a wrong signal.

A group calling itself “Not With Us” says it expects several thousand people to come to the Saturday march.

The union said in a statement Wednesday that holding such a march suggests it’s only up to Muslims to tackle international terrorism.

It also said Muslims observing the Ramadan-month fast couldn’t be expected to march for hours in the summer sun with expected temperatures of 25 degrees Celsius (77 Fahrenheit).

The union instead plans on Friday to hold prayers for peace and against terrorism in mosques throughout Germany.

  33. Russian Military Teams With Hezbollah to Launch Strikes In Syria

Russian military forces reportedly carried out joint operations in Syria with the Iranian-backed terror organization Hezbollah, according to regional media reports that further highlight Tehran’s increased efforts to combat U.S.-aligned forces in the country and those opposing Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The Russian air force provided cover for Hezbollah forces during a “large scale” operation in Syria’s contested Homs province, according to reports in Iran’s state-controlled media that quoted “military sources.”

“Russian warplanes kept pounding the movements and gatherings of the terrorists in the region,” according to Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency. “Russian helicopters played a crucial role in supporting the Syrian soldiers on the frontlines, while the Russian bombers carried out several rounds of combat sorties on ISIL’s supply routes preventing them from deploying reinforcements.”

Hezbollah and other Iranian-backed forces have additionally stepped up efforts in recent weeks to target U.S. coalition forces operating in the war torn country. Hezbollah has vowed to attack American forces, which recently were attacked by an Iranian-controlled drone.

Any kid from a Jew-ish family who chooses the notoriously anti-Semitic Evergreen State is ripe for uber-zombie.

Embattled Evergreen State Professor Accused of Hiding Racism Behind His Judaism

A biology professor at Evergreen State College who has been under fire in recent months for alleged racist actions has been accused by Jewish students at the school of using his Jewish faith “as a prop” to deflect pressure over his “anti-black language and behavior.”

Bret Weinstein was charged with “positioning himself as a Jew to invalidate the claims of racism being raised against him” in an open letter published last week and signed by a group identifying themselves as “[s]ome Jewish students at Evergreen bent on the destruction of white supremacy.”

This letter was published amid an ongoing controversy over Weinstein’s refusal to participate in an April equity initiative in which all the white members of the Evergreen community were “invited to leave campus,” for a so-called “Day of Presence” celebrating the college’s minority demographic.

Weinsten gained national attention for his decision to hold his lecture as usual despite the program, a move that led to student protesters mobbing his classroom, shouting him down and forcing him to relocate his class to an off-campus park.

There have since been calls from many at Evergreen for his resignation or termination.

  35. Richard Dawkins: Islam Is ‘the Most Evil Religion in the World’ (breitbart, Jun 15, 2017)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/06/15/richard-dawkins-islam-most-evil-religion-world/

“Professional atheist Richard Dawkins told an audience this week that Islam is “the most evil religion in the world,” and therefore must be combatted.

While opposed to all religion, the British evolutionary biologist and author of The God Delusion has been rethinking his positions and insisting that certain distinctions must be made between one religion and another.

Speaking at the Cheltenham Science Festival Sunday, Dawkins said that while it’s tempting to say that all religions are bad, “it’s a worse temptation to say all religions are equally bad because they’re not.”

“If you look at the actual impact that different religions have on the world it’s quite apparent that at present the most evil religion in the world has to be Islam,” he said.

In the face of growing Islamic terror, Dawkins has begrudgingly admitted that Christianity may actually be society’s best defense against aberrant forms of religion that threaten the world.

“There are no Christians, as far as I know, blowing up buildings,” Dawkins said in a text that is making its way around social media. “I am not aware of any Christian suicide bombers. I am not aware of any major Christian denomination that believes the penalty for apostasy is death.”

Despite his animosity toward Christianity, Dawkins has acknowledged that the teachings of Jesus Christ do not lead to a world of terror, whereas followers of radical Islam perpetrate the very atrocities that he laments.

Faced with this realization, Dawkins has wondered aloud whether Christianity might indeed offer an antidote to protect Western civilization against jihad.

“I have mixed feelings about the decline of Christianity, in so far as Christianity might be a bulwark against something worse,” he said.

In his address last Sunday, Dawkins was swift to assure his hearers that his assessment of Islam was not a condemnation of all Muslims. “It’s terribly important to modify that because of course that doesn’t mean all Muslims are evil, very far from it. Individual Muslims suffer more from Islam than anyone else,” he said.

“They suffer from the homophobia, the misogyny, the joylessness which is preached by extreme Islam, ISIS and the Iranian regime,” he said….”

  36. Left Dominates British Schools, with over 80 Per Cent of Teachers Backing Labour or Lib Dems (breitbart, Jun 15, 2017)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/06/15/left-dominates-british-schools-80-per-cent-teachers-backing-labour-lib-dems/

“Surveys of teachers’ voting intentions prior to the general election indicate the Left dominates the British education system.

A number of outlets have been highlighting findings published by Tes, formerly the Times Education Supplement, shortly before the June 8th snap election.

These reveal a huge majority of teachers at primary, secondary, and special schools planned to back left liberal political parties on polling day – and the results of dozens of school mock elections around the same time suggest their biases are filtering down to their pupils….”

  37. Spanish NGO boat rescues 420 migrants close to Libyan coast (abcnews, Jun 15, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/spanish-ngo-boat-rescues-100-migrants-close-libyan-48056721

“A Spanish aid organization has rescued 420 migrants attempting the perilous crossing of the Mediterranean Sea to Europe in packed smugglers’ boats from Libya.

Laura Lanuza, spokeswoman for Spain’s Proactiva Open Arms aid group, said its crews on Thursday rescued most of the migrants from two packed rubber dinghies and a wooden boat that were sailing in international waters 18 miles (29 kilometers) north of the Libyan coastal town of Sabratha. Each boat had over 130 migrants aboard.

In a separate operation, she said 11 people, including a 2-month-old baby with asthma, were rescued from a wooden boat.

Libya is one of the prime spots for smugglers to launch boats — many unseaworthy — packed with migrants and refugees desperate to reach Europe. At least 1,808 have died this year trying to cross the Mediterranean.”

  38. Bill to let immigrant children become Italians stirs protest (abcnews, Jun 15, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/bill-immigrant-children-italians-stirs-protest-48057792

“A proposed bill to let immigrants’ children become Italians has stirred protest in Rome.

Right-wing protesters marched in Rome Thursday near the Senate, where the bill is being considered. Inside, senators from an anti-migrant party, some holding “stop invasion” signs, interrupted the session.

Currently, foreigners born in Italy can seek citizenship only when they turn 18 and if they have lived in the country since birth.

The bill would allow those born in Italy to immigrant parents holding long-term residence permits to seek Italian citizenship as young as age 12 if they have done five years of schooling here. Foreign children not born in Italy could also apply, as long as they have done five years of schooling before becoming adults.

Some 800,000 children could become Italian citizens if the proposal becomes law.”

  39. Germany, Austria slam US sanctions against Russia (abcnews, Jun 15, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/germany-austria-slam-us-sanctions-russia-48054975

“Germany and Austria voiced sharp criticism Thursday of the latest U.S. sanctions against Moscow, saying they could affect European businesses involved in piping in Russian natural gas.

The United States Senate voted Wednesday to slap new sanctions on key sectors of Russia’s economy and individuals over its interference in the 2016 U.S. election campaign and its aggression in Syria and Ukraine. The measures were attached to a bill targeting Iran.

In a joint statement, Austria’s Chancellor Christian Kern and Germany’s Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel said it was important for Europe and the United States to form a united front on the issue of Ukraine, where Russian-based separatists have been fighting government forces since 2014.

“However, we can’t accept the threat of illegal and extraterritorial sanctions against European companies,” the two officials said, citing a section of the bill that calls for the United States to continue to oppose the Nord Stream 2 pipeline that would pump Russian gas to Germany beneath the Baltic Sea.

Half of the cost of the new pipeline is being paid for by Russian gas giant Gazprom, while the other half is being shouldered by a group including Anglo-Dutch group Royal Dutch Shell, French provider Engie, OMV of Austria and Germany’s Uniper and Wintershall.

Some Eastern European countries, including Poland and Ukraine, fear the loss of transit revenue if Russian gas supplies don’t pass through their territory anymore once the new pipeline is built.

Gabriel and Kern accuse the U.S. of trying to help American natural gas suppliers at the expense of their Russian rivals. They said the possibility of fining European companies participating in the Nord Stream 2 project “introduces a completely new, very negative dimension into European-American relations,” they said.

In their forceful appeal, the two officials urged the United States to back off from linking the situation in Ukraine to the question of who can sell gas to Europe.

“Europe’s energy supply is a matter for Europe, and not for the United States of America,” Kern and Gabriel said.”

  40. EU pledges nearly $160 million to support northeast Nigeria (abcnews, Jun 15, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/eu-pledges-160-million-support-northeast-nigeria-48055821

“The European Union has announced a support package of nearly $160 million for recovery and reconstruction in Nigeria’s Borno state, which has been devastated by attacks from homegrown Islamic extremist group Boko Haram.

The EU said Thursday the northeastern state is facing a worsening humanitarian crisis. The United Nations has called Nigeria one of four countries worldwide at risk of, or experiencing, famine.

EU Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development Neven Mimica says the new support will assist 1.3 million internally displaced people in Nigeria.

The pledge adds to $90 million already designated by the EU for humanitarian aid to the region.

The U.N. has said an estimated 4.7 million people are in urgent need of food aid.

Boko Haram’s eight-year insurgency has killed more than 20,000 people.”

  41. UN agency fears for African migrants held by gang in Libya (abcnews, Jun 15, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/agency-fears-african-migrants-held-gang-libya-48063540

“The United Nations migration agency said Thursday it was “deeply concerned” about some 260 Somali and Ethiopian migrants allegedly held and mistreated by criminal gangs in Libya, saying it believed that a harrowing video of them posted on social media was authentic.

The International Organization for Migration noted the video posted June 9 on Facebook in which it said many “abused Somalis and Ethiopians are seen huddled fearfully in a concrete room.”

The IOM said a Somali journalist based in Turkey recorded the video call from a gang in which some migrants claimed to have been beaten. Some alleged having their teeth pulled out and arms broken.

The authenticity of the video could not be independently verified.

The agency said some captives’ relatives had received videos asking them to pay $8,000 to $10,000 “or their child or relative will be killed.” The relatives’ exact location was not known, but the IOM said “the relevant authorities in this situation have been informed.”

The IOM has long decried risks taken by human traffickers with the migrants and refugees they ferry through relatively lawless Libya and into the Mediterranean Sea by boat en route to Italy…”

  42. REVEALED: 150,000 illegal migrants ‘sneak in each year’ (express, Jun 15, 2017)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/817691/Illegal-immigrants-migrants-sneak

“ABOUT 150,000 illegal immigrants sneak into Britain each year, according to secret Home Office estimates published today.

The clandestine arrivals are on top of the 250,000 people crossing our borders legally per annum, a report said.

The claim is made in a think tank report The Politics Of Fantasy co-authored by former border control chief David Wood and former Home Office speechwriter Alastair Palmer.

Mr Wood also accused Government ministers of concealing the true level of immigration to avoid “politically embarrassment”.

Published by think tank Civitas, the report said: “The Home Office has not published any estimate of illegal immigration since 2005.

    More than 1,200 migrants

“It has produced further estimates – but for internal consumption only.

“Those estimates are partly based on the number of illegal immigrants that officials encounter as they check businesses, colleges and housing to make sure that immigration law and regulations are being followed.”

The authors admit it is “understandable that the Home Office should have kept those estimates to itself” but say figures should be released.

Immigration Minister Brandon Lewis said: “Our laws are being enforced. It is harder than ever for those with no right to be here to remain.””

  43. Spelling errors led to ‘terrorist threat’ evacuation at German rock festival – police

German police have admitted that the mass evacuation of 87,000 festival-goers at a music festival earlier this month was due to two spelling mistakes that led authorities to falsely believe radical Islamists were working at the event.

The “Rock am Ring” festival was evacuated on its first day, June 2, because two employees of a company that had been subcontracted to set up stages at the festival were spelled wrong.

Those simple misspellings led authorities to suspect the employees could have been radical Islamists, prompting the evacuation of 87,000 festival-goers.

“The names of the suspects were written incorrectly, but they exhibited a phonetic similarity to the actual names (of terror suspects),” Rhineland-Palatinate chief of police Johannes Kunz told Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper, as cited by The Local.

“At the time, the situation was very serious – we couldn’t rule out that an attack was being prepared,” he added.

The employees whose names were misspelled are Syrian nationals, according to Focus newspaper.

At the time of the evacuation, a police spokesperson said that “one person who is not of German origin and is known to the police as having links to the Islamist terror network” had access to backstage areas.

Police said three people suspected of belonging to a Salafist group in the neighboring German state of Hesse were detained on the evacuation day, but were released the next day.

The three-day festival resumed as normal on the day following the evacuation, with organizers stating that “police gave the go-ahead” after a “series of intensive searches across the site” did not identify any danger.

Kunz stressed that tougher security checks are needed at future festivals, allowing police to request the identity of everyone working at the locations. Authorities currently check the identities of those working for security firms hired at the events.

“Identification documents must be given to us in good time in the future,” Kunz said.

Rock am Ring takes place each year near the city of Nürburg, and is Germany’s largest rock festival. The event was also interrupted last year, after violent storms led to dozens of festival-goers being injured by lightning.

Germany remains on high alert after a terrorist attack on a Christmas market in Berlin left 12 people dead and 56 others injured in 2016.

  44. Alex Jones is threatening to scoop NBC and Megyn Kelly with their own interview.

The controversial Infowars host says he’ll release contents of their conversation — which he claims to have recorded — on his website Thursday night. Jones even released a teaser of what appears to be a secretly recorded conversation with Kelly (below).

“I’ve never done this in 22 years, I’ve never recorded another journalist, but I knew it was a fraud, that it was lie,” Jones said in a video posted on Twitter. “God, she was like, ‘I want to get steaks with you, I’m obsessed with you, oh my god,’ wiggling around in her seat. It was all crap. I knew it was all a lie. I said Sandy Hook happened, and she wouldn’t even put it in the promo pieces. So we’re going to release — oh yeah — the pre-interview. And then when they put the fraud out on Sunday — which I’ve asked them not to air because they’re misrepresenting who I am and say I’m as bad as Saddam Hussein… we’ve got the whole interviews here … You’re going to hear what I actually said … it’s all going to come out tonight.”

The tweet was accompanied by an audio recording of what sounds like Kelly assuring Jones her interview would be fair.

“All I can do is give you my word and tell you if there’s one thing about me, I do what I say I’m gonna do, and I don’t double-cross,” she said. “You know you just became very fascinating to me. I just always thought you were this maybe, [y’know] one-dimensional guy, like this is your thing… My goal is for your listeners and the left — you know, who will be watching some on NBC — to say, ‘Wow, that was really interesting.’ And then the next time I wanna get somebody, they’re gonna say, ‘Look what you did to Alex Jones!’ It’s not going to be some gotcha hit piece, I promise you that.”

NBC and Infowars did not reply to request to comment.

Families of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings have denounced NBC’s Sunday night interview and have pressured the network to cancel the broadcast.

“What I think we’re doing is journalism,” Kelly has said. “The bottom line is that while it’s not always popular, it’s important. I would submit to you that neither I nor NBC News has elevated Alex Jones in any way. He’s been elevated by 5 or 6 million viewers or listeners, and by the president of the United States. As you know, journalists don’t get the choice over who has power or influence in our country.”
