    • What happens when those in the nuclear-armed West finally realize that, “the values that make us peaceful, democratic, open and tolerant societies” can only be maintained by annihilating these barbaric scum (along with their ancestral villages and larger places of origin) whose intolerance demands the very worst sort of random violence against innocent people?

  1. UK leader: Islamic extremism must be contained after attack (abcnews, Jun 4, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/terror-attacks-strike-heart-london-people-killed-47819619

“Prime Minister Theresa May Sunday called for tougher measures to fight Islamic extremism after an attack with a vehicle and knives killed seven people in a busy area of London and disrupted Britain’s election campaign just days before a nationwide vote.

The assault unfolded — and ended — quickly, with police fatally shooting the three attackers within eight minutes. But the men had achieved their apparent goal of turning a balmy summer night in Britain’s capital into a scene of carnage.

It began Saturday night when a van veered off the road and barreled into pedestrians on busy London Bridge. The three men fled the van with large knives and attacked people at bars and restaurants in nearby Borough Market, police and witnesses said.

Emergency officials said 48 people were treated at London hospitals, including some with life-threatening injuries, and a number of others suffered less serious injuries. The death toll of seven didn’t include the three attackers.

It was the third major attack in Britain in the past three months. Britain was already on edge after a suicide bombing two weeks ago at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, in northwest England, that killed 22 people and injured dozens more. Grande and other stars are scheduled to perform a benefit concert for victims under tight security in Manchester Sunday night.

The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the Manchester bombing, but there has not yet been a claim of responsibility for the London attack, which the prime minister linked to Islamic extremism…”

  2. Iraq paramilitary troops take strategic town west of Mosul (abcnews, Jun 4, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/iraq-paramilitary-troops-strategic-town-west-mosul-47820815

“A senior leader with an Iraqi government-sanctioned paramilitary force says his troops have captured a key town west of the city of Mosul from the Islamic State group.

Deputy Head of Popular Mobilization Forces, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, says in a statement that the troops entered the center of strategic Baaj town Sunday morning.

Al-Muhandis said the progress is a “big and qualitative achievement” in the U.S.-backed operation to retake Mosul, which was launched in October. The town, near the Syrian border, is considered one of the important supply lines for IS through Syria.

The Iran-backed PMF — an umbrella group of mostly Shiite militias also known as Hashed al-Shaabi in Arabic — has largely operated since October in the desert west of Mosul, trying to cut IS supply lines.”

  3. Afghan officials: 6 police killed in insider attack (abcnews, Jun 4, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/afghan-officials-police-killed-insider-attack-47820362

“Afghan officials say at least six police officers have been killed after two fellow police opened fire on them in southern Kandahar province.

Two provincial officials confirmed the Sunday attack, which they said also wounded the Kandahar City district police chief. Both spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to brief the media.

Qari Yusouf Ahmadi, a Taliban spokesman, claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement saying that both attackers were their men who joined the police rank just carry out such attack and both devoted their lives for their aim.

Taliban insurgents have increased their attacks against Afghan security forces across the country.”

    http://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-mideast-crisis-syria-aleppo-idUKKBN18V0LR?rpc=401&

“The Syrian army and allied forces captured the last major town held by Islamic State in Aleppo province on Sunday, state media and a war monitoring group said.

State-run news agency SANA said army units made strategic gains in the rural east of the province.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based war monitoring group, said government forces entered the town of Maskaneh after weeks of heavy fighting.

The advance brings Russian-backed government forces to the border of Raqqa province, which is largely under the control of U.S.-backed militias also fighting Islamic State.

A Syrian military source said the army “restored security and stability” to Maskaneh and nearby positions. Troops also regained large generators that power a main water pumping station, the source said. The army had retaken the water plant from Islamic State in March.

Islamic State militants have been holed up in desert areas in the southeast corner of Aleppo, now their only presence in the province. Syrian government forces control Aleppo city and much of the province’s east, while rebel groups hold swathes of its west…”

  5. Eight PKK militants killed in eastern Turkey – Anadolu (reuters, Jun 4, 2017)
    http://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-turkey-security-idUKKBN18V0KJ?rpc=401&

“Turkish security forces killed eight militants from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in eastern Turkey on Sunday, state-run Anadolu Agency reported, citing the local governor.

Security forces were searching for another militant who was believed to be on the run after the operation, the governor of the eastern Kars province, Rahmi Dogan, was quoted as saying.

“Eight terrorists were killed and the security forces are searching for another terrorist who is on the run,” he said.

A ceasefire between the Turkish state and the militants broke down in July 2015 and the southeast subsequently saw some of the worst violence since the PKK insurgency began in 1984.

More than 40,000 people, mostly Kurds, have been killed in the conflict. The PKK is designated a terrorist group by Turkey, the United States and the European Union.”

    https://www.alaraby.co.uk/english/news/2017/6/4/brother-of-is-beheaded-tunisian-shepherd-killed

“The brother of a shepherd whose beheading by militants outraged Tunisia has himself been found dead after being abducted, the defence minister’s spokesman said on Saturday.

Khalifa Soltani was kidnapped on Friday in the Mount Mghilla area, and a security sweep recovered his body after a “terrorist group” announced his abduction, Belhassen Oueslati told AFP.

The Islamic State group claimed responsibility, according to the SITE Intelligence Group which monitors extremist organisations.

It quoted the IS Amaq agency as saying the man killed on Friday was a “spy… who worked for the benefit of the Tunisian intelligence on Mount Mghilla”.

Oueslati did not provide further details about the victim, but media reports said he was the brother of Mabrouk Soltani, a 16-year-old shepherd who was decapitated on November 13, 2015.

The Tunisian branch of IS, Jund al-Khilafa (soldiers of the caliphate), claimed the killing, accusing the boy of betraying their movements to the army.

“Ten migrants were killed and seven were injured after a minivan transporting them overturned on a highway near the city of Pazardzhik in southern Bulgaria, the interior ministry said.

The ministry said the 16-year-old Bulgarian driver of the vehicle, who did not hold a driving licence, was also killed in the accident early on Sunday.

The migrants did not have any documents on them, but some of the wounded, who were being treated in hospital, told police officers they were of Afghani and Pakistani origin.

Tens of thousands of asylum seekers, mainly from Syria and Afghanistan and Iraq, have crossed into Bulgaria through Turkey on their way to Western Europe since 2014, although migrant inflows have eased in the past year.”

CNN host calls Trump ‘piece of sh*t’ over renewed call for travel ban

After the latest suspected Islamic terrorist attack in London on Saturday, a CNN host lashed out at President Trump over his renewed call for a travel ban.

The president took to Twitter Saturday evening, saying, “We need to be smart, vigilant and tough. We need the courts to give us back our rights. We need the Travel Ban as an extra level of safety!”

That triggered CNN host Reza Aslan, who lashed out, writing, “This piece of shit is not just an embarrassment to American and a stain on the presidency. He’s an embarrassment to humankind.”

Aslan hosts a show called “Believer with Reza Aslan” on the network in which he “immerses himself in the world’s most fascinating faith-based groups to experience life as a true believer,” according to the show’s website.

  8. Iran Heads towards Iraqi-Syrian Border (aawsat, Jun 4, 2017)
    https://english.aawsat.com/abdul-rahman-al-rashed/opinion/iran-heads-towards-iraqi-syrian-border

“The Iranian government has a clear goal of creating a reality that is suitable for it when it comes to determining the fate of Syria and later expanding its role in Iraq.

To this end, Iran is leading the Iraqi militias, others that it has established and groups that it has influence over to Syria to wage major battles to control the crossings and land passage to Damascus and other vital areas. This means the struggle will last for years, which will push regional powers to back the opposing groups that will in turn reproduce a new ISIS and lead to the failure of war on terrorism.

As part of its project, Tehran’s regime is using several excuses to justify its plan, mostly that it is fighting terrorist organizations and guarding the Iraqi border. In reality it is drawing up the areas of its control in borders with Syria and it is attempting to impose its presence on the majority of the 300 kilometers, and then cross over with Iraqi militias to Syria.

Initially, Iran’s al-Quds Force had entered Syria to save Assad’s regime from collapse under the pretense of protecting Shi’ite shrines. It is now building its military presence under the claim of fighting ISIS, but in reality, it has a long-term project to control Iraq, Syria and Lebanon.

Iran’s military presence on the ground will expand during times of tensions and increased sectarian extremism in Syria and Iraq. Surely, this will sabotage the coalition project to eliminate the terrorist organization ISIS because the sectarian practices of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) will prompt Sunni areas to establish organizations to counter it.

This will raise a number of questions about the seriousness of the international campaign to combat ISIS. It will also open new fronts with Kurdish fighters when the PMF passed through their areas. This will also put the passage of armed Iraqi organizations to Syria under legal questioning, just like the situation with Turkish forces in Iraq.

Tehran is trying to impose a status quo on the international powers, including its ally Russia after it began sensing a partial shift in its stance.

Russia reportedly said that it currently has to deal with Iran and its foreign militias because they are present on the ground. Iran is trying to enforce this by transporting thousands of Iraqi and other fighters to northern Iraq to cross over into Syria.

Iran will tear Iraq apart and further fragment Syria. It will raise the terrorist risks that take advantage of the chaos and conflicts on several axes. It is not reasonable that concerned parties are looking for a political solution in Astana or Geneva while Iranian military leaders are left to sabotage the situation and ruin international efforts.

This requires exerting more pressure on Iran and making it see the need to remove all foreign fighters”

Significant terrorist attacks have sprung up across the globe since the beginning of Muslim holy month of Ramadan May 26, with current counts confirming three attacks and 149 dead, and a reported Saturday incident on London Bridge still developing.

Islamist terrorist groups usually use the holiday to mount more significant terrorist attacks, and promise their followers extra benefits for dying in such attacks during the holy month.

  11. North Korea says rejects new sanctions, to continue nuclear program

SEOUL (Reuters) – North Korea “fully rejects” the latest U.N sanctions against its citizens and entities as a “hostile act” and will continue its nuclear weapons development without a delay, its foreign ministry spokesman said on Sunday.

The U.N. Security Council on Friday expanded targeted sanctions against North Korea after its repeated missile tests, adopting the first such resolution agreed by the United States and Pyongyang’s only major ally China since U.S. President Donald Trump took office.

The sanctions resolution “is a crafty hostile act with the purpose of putting a curb on the DPRK’s buildup of nuclear forces, disarming it and causing economic suffocation to it,” the foreign ministry spokesman said in a statement carried by its official KCNA news agency. DPRK is short for Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, the North’s official name.

“Whatever sanctions and pressure may follow, we will not flinch from the road to build up nuclear forces which was chosen to defend the sovereignty of the country and the rights to national existence and will move forward towards the final victory,” the spokesman said.

  12. Learn from us on democracy, Taiwan tells China on Tiananmen anniversary

TAIPEI/HONG KONG (Reuters) – Taiwan’s president on Sunday offered to help China to transition to democracy, on the 28th anniversary of China’s bloody crackdown on pro-democracy protests in and around Beijing’s Tiananmen Square, as thousands gathered in Hong Kong for an evening vigil.

Nearly three decades after Beijing sent tanks and troops to quell the 1989 pro-democracy, student-led protests, Chinese authorities ban any public commemoration of the subject on the mainland and have yet to release an official death toll.

Hong Kong, a former British colony that returned to Chinese rule in 1997, is the only place on Chinese soil where a large-scale commemoration takes place, symbolizing the financial hub’s relative freedoms compared with the mainland.

This year’s events are especially politically charged, coming just a month before an expected visit of President Xi Jinping to mark 20 years since Hong Kong was handed back to China.

“When Xi Jinping comes, he’ll know the people of Hong Kong have not forgotten,” said Lee Cheuk-yan, a veteran democracy activist and an organizer of the annual candlelight vigil.

  13. Residents trapped as gunfire mars ceasefire at Philippines city

MARAWI CITY, Philippines (Reuters) – Thousands of civilians hoping to flee fighting in the besieged Philippines city of Marawi remained trapped on Sunday after a four-hour ceasefire to evacuate residents was marred by gunfire.

Only 134 were freed on Sunday, less than on previous days, despite government hopes that more than 1,000 would be able to leave a city battered by 13 days of intense fighting.

Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte predicted the siege would be over within days despite fierce resistance by fighters aligned to Islamic State in the dense urban heart of the southern Philippines city.

“This will be over in about three more days,” Duterte said on Saturday after visiting a hospital in Cagayan de Oro where wounded soldiers were being treated.

“I will not hesitate to use every power available.”

  14. Moroccan police stifle women’s protest in northern city

AL-HOCEIMA, Morocco (Reuters) – Moroccan authorities stifled a women’s protest against official abuses and corruption on Saturday in a northern town where months of unrest has tested the North African kingdom.

The protest in the town of Al-Hoceima was organized by the “Hirak” movement, which is campaigning for jobs, infrastructure and other demands in the northern Rif region, and whose leader Nasser Zefzafi was arrested last week on charges of threatening national security, among other offences.

Police encircled hundreds of female protesters to leave a public park in Al-Hoceima late on Saturday, impeding others from joining, as the women chanted “freedom, dignity and social justice”, a Reuters reporter at the scene said. Female police officers and riot police pushed the leader of the protest, Nawal Ben Aissa, a prominent member of Hirak, away from the group. She was accompanied at the protest by Zefzafi’s mother.

“AT LEAST 12 people have been arrested after police launched a major raid on the Barking home of one of the men suspected of being involved in the London Bridge terror attack on Saturday night.

Images have emerged of some of those taken into police custody – sources say the group includes at least four women.

The dynamic police raid centred around a block of flats in the Barking area, which has now been taped off.

Heavily armed officers stormed the Elizabeth Fry flats in Barking, east London, shortly after 7am.

One of the three terrorists responsible for the London Bridge atrocity is believed to have lived on the estate in a ground-floor flat.

According to reports on Sky News, a witness claimed to see a number of women wearing Islamic dress speaking to police while the raid was being carried out.

Photographs have emerged showing several men lying on the ground with their hands handcuffs behind their backs…”

  17. What can be done to stop the spread of radical Islam?

Insight from James Mitchell, author ‘Enhanced Interrogation’

    • “What can be done to stop the spread of radical Islam?”

Rather simple, really. After each terrorist attack in the West, another Islamic city immediately disappears off of the map without warning. No nukes needed. MOABs will work just fine. This world’s Muslims, in their deafening silence, apparently have no problem with jihad’s collective punishment of the West.

Ergo, it’s time for the West to take a page from Islam’s playbook and start engaging in collective punishment of Islam. At some point, Muslim populations will become sufficiently worried about their city being next that they will scurry down to the local mosque and slit the jihadist imam’s throat out of sheer concern for their own continued existence.

This will represent Islam finally cleaning its own house. Something the West has been spending trillions of dollars on and doing in a wholly unsuccessful manner. The Muslims know damn well who the terrorists are and they alone bear the burden of responsibility when it comes to liquidating the jihadists among them.

Aside from wholesale destruction of all Muslim countries, these sort of massively disproportionate retaliations are the only thing that will make any lasting impression on Islam. Entire Muslim bloodlines will need to disappear—in ways that defeat their polygamist (in)breeding patterns—as part of chlorinating the (gene) pool of terrorist recruits. Anything else is merely a holding pattern and of no strategic significance.

It’s only a matter of time (and death toll) until the West dispenses with its idiotically fastidious approach to curtailing Islamic terrorism and begins the wholesale slaughter of those Muslims who refuse to vigorously oppose random jihadist violence.

      • That won’t stop them.
The attackers don’t value their own or their families’ lives. Zombies must be put down. Wannabe zombies as well. Deport friends and family, or treat them as enemy combatants.

I’ve got a more ambitious program, hit those who have a stake in life on earth:
        • De-platform [VOMIT-neologism] the apologist-imams and community organizers.
        • Take the PC handcuffs off and go Patriot Act NUCLEAR. Crash course in Mj. Stephen Coughlin for all law enforcement personnel.

        Go to the next level:
        • Destroy the MB-front organizations, their lawyers, and the politicians they’ve BOUGHT.
        • Prosecute the PR-firms hired to polish the images of scum that’s risen to the top.
        • SEIZE their assets. Don’t give them access to their expensive, complicit lawyers.

And, of course, obliterate Qatar, destabilize the Islamic Republic of Iran, and neuter the Gulf kingpins.

        • “That won’t stop them … The attackers don’t value their own or their families’ lives.

Depopulating their ancestral places of origin—whilst scraping out all of their Western populations and material resources—will rapidly deplete whatever ability they have to pose much of a threat.

The cruelty of this will (necessarily) be unimaginable. Then again, the cruelty of flying fully loaded passenger jet airliners into occupied skyscrapers seems just slightly unimaginable to me right now.

          Go figure.

        • At some point in the future some variation of both ideas will probably be tried.

          • “At some point in the future some variation of both ideas will probably be tried.”

The farther into the future that these measures are postponed, the more violent, relentless, and vicious they will become.

This escalation has nothing to do with Western strategies and everything to do with appropriate retaliation against the continuously intensifying death wish of Islam.

            • I know, the time when half measures would do any good is long past, we are now forced to go for broke.

        • Please forgive me, Yucki. Your reply merited a far better response than the limited one that I furnished. Please give me a while and I will do my best to address the numerous other important points that you have made.

If anything, I’d deplore implore Eeyore (howsabout that for some sonance?) to consider creating a dialogue post about the issues that you have rightfully raised.

  19. FBI Raid – Huma Abedin Brother and Sisters Home, June 1, 2017
    June 3, 2017

    COMMENT/OPINION

SUMMARY OF EVENTS THAT SUPPOSEDLY WENT DOWN

On June 1, 2017 a raid took place in a home in the 7200 Block of Jonathon Street in Dearborn, Michigan which is owned by a “shell company,” turns out it’s actually owned by Huma Abedin’s brother and sister. This shell company is the Journal of Muslim Affairs. Important to note, Huma worked as an Assistant Editor for this company at one time.

Several FBI and DOJ officers left Washington enroute to Dearborn……convoys of cars descended on the home located at 7246 Jonathon Street, assisted by other law enforcement officers from neighboring locals.

During the Clinton campaign last summer, if you recall, we didn’t see Huma Abedin for awhile, she had apparently made a trip to Dearborn, Michigan. A few months before she left to visit her brother, Hassan Abedin’s home in Dearborn, she was interviewed by the FBI about Hillary Clinton’s lost emails. Upon Abedin’s testimony to the FBI, it is reported that a laptop containing an archived copy, along with a thumb drive, were lost in the mail.

  20. Brexit: Business and security risks of leaving EU data sharing scheme ‘not on Tories’ radar’, experts warn

‘The danger of an ad-hoc fix is that things fall between the cracks and, for security issues, that would be a significant risk’

Conservative ministers are failing to recognise the danger to businesses and the fight against terrorism from losing rights to share data with the EU after Brexit, experts have warned.

Britain risks a wait of up to three years to be granted an “adequacy decision” from Brussels, threatening to stop the flow of data immediately once EU withdrawal is completed in March 2019.

There are fears – just two weeks after the Manchester bombing – that the police and security services will lose a vital weapon to counter terrorism and organised crime.

At stake is access to information-sharing through the Europol law enforcement agency and to the Schengen information system, which holds an 8,000-name watchlist of potential terror suspects.

Now technology experts have told The Independent they fear the danger of a “cliff edge” is not being given appropriate priority – or is even properly understood – by the Government.

Without a temporary agreement, companies will have to move part of their operations to the EU or risk losing business to rival firms on the Continent.

Crucially, in the absence of an over-arching deal, separate agreements would have to be struck with individual police forces and intelligence services – with the danger that vital information will “fall between the cracks”, one expert said.

“Those organisations would need to be persuaded that Britain can be trusted with data. At the very least, it’s likely to be disruptive and uncertain,” said Ruth Boardman, a partner at the international law firm Bird & Bird.

“The worry is that government simply doesn’t have this issue on its radar as a high enough priority – for both the economy and law enforcement.”

The warning was echoed by Antony Walker, the deputy chief executive of the trade association techUK, who said: “The danger of an ad-hoc fix is that things fall between the cracks and, for security issues, that would be a significant risk.

“Ministers say this is on their list of 10 priority issues, but I’m not sure they understand the full significance of the threat.”

The British Bankers Association has also warned the flow of data “could lapse overnight at the point of UK exit from the EU”.

“Transitional arrangements are needed to avoid a damaging ‘cliff edge’ effect in the movement of data between the EU and UK,” it advised, in a recent policy document.

Strikingly, a Home Office minister, Baroness Williams of Trafford, left a House of Lords committee in the dark when she gave evidence on the controversy in April.

She was unable to say what “the transition arrangements might look like”, telling peers: “I am not being unhelpful. It is just that I cannot.”

Asked whether Britain was willing to sign up to amendments to data transfer rules after Brexit, to ensure continued compliance, Baroness Williams replied: “I literally do not know. That is to be determined.”

The minister was also unable to say whether anyone from the Home Office would be represented at the Brexit negotiations, to ensure the issue was given prominence.

The threat arises because, after Brexit, the UK will be treated as a “third country” – requiring the European Commission to be satisfied it will protect data to the same degree as EU members.

Both Ms Boardman and Mr Walker warned that securing the “adequacy decision” would take at least two years, from March 2019, on the basis of such negotiations in the past – making a temporary deal the only option.

Furthermore, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) has ruled that mass data retention of the kind allowed in the UK under the Investigatory Powers Act, or “snoopers’ charter”, is unlawful, throwing up a further hurdle.

And Theresa May has insisted the ECJ will not have any legal authority in the UK after Brexit – despite Sir Julian King, the European commissioner responsible for security, insisting that will be necessary.

Ms Boardman added: “Anyone asked about the state of UK data law after Brexit would say they don’t have a clue, because there is nothing there to tell us – we simply don’t know what they are going to do.”

Mr Walker said the alternatives to an adequacy decision “don’t give strong legal certainty and would be difficult and costly to put in place”.

Warning businesses need time to move data functions to within the EU, if necessary, he said: “The cliff edge is not right at the end of the process for business – the cliff edge is soon. We need a solution soon.”

A Conservative spokeswoman said: “We have been very clear that as part of the Brexit negotiations, we want to agree a deep and special partnership between the UK and the EU to ensure continued cooperation on security. Theresa May is the best person to secure that arrangement.”

The ECJ has ruled that governments cannot force telecom firms to keep all customer data. The ruling, which says the laws violate basic privacy rights, comes as governments call for greater powers for spy agencies.

The Court of Justice of the European Union (ECJ) ruled on Wednesday that laws allowing for the blanket collection and retention of location and traffic data are in breach of EU law.

In their decision, the justices wrote that storing such data, which includes text message senders and recipients and call histories, allows for “very precise conclusions to be drawn concerning the private lives of the persons whose data has been retained.”

“Such national legislation exceeds the limits of what is strictly necessary and cannot be considered to be justified within a democratic society,” the Luxembourg-based court said.

EU member states seeking to fight a “serious crime” are allowed to retain data in a targeted manner but must be subject to prior review by a court or independent body, the EU’s top court said. Exceptions can be made in urgent cases.

The decision came amidst growing calls from EU governments for security agencies to be given greater powers with the goal of preventing or investigating attacks. Privacy advocates, on the other hand, said mass data retention is ineffective in combating such crimes.

      Challenge to British, Swedish laws

The court’s decision was a response to challenges against data retention laws in Britain and Sweden on the ground that they were no longer valid after the court previously struck down an EU-wide data retention law in 2014.

In Sweden, the law requires telecommunications companies to retain all their customers’ traffic and location data, without exception, the ECJ said.
British law allows authorities to ask firms to keep all communication data for a maximum 12-month period.

In the UK, politicians filed a legal challenge against a surveillance law which passed in 2014, part of which was suspended by a British court. British lawmakers then passed the Investigatory Powers Act – the so-called “snooper’s charter.”

A German data retention law, which came into effect at the end of 2015, requires telecommunications companies to store telephone and internet use for 10 weeks, after which point the data must be deleted.

The German law also stipulates a shorter storage time of four weeks for location data which results from mobile phone calls. It remains to be seen what effect the ECJ ruling will have on Germany’s blanket data retention measures.

    • ‘Enough is enough’: Britain’s May calls for tough stand vs. terror

[…]First, while the recent attacks are not connected by common networks, they are connected in one important sense. They are bound together by the single, evil ideology of Islamist extremism that preaches hatred, sows division, and promotes sectarianism. It is an ideology that claims our Western values of freedom, democracy and human rights are incompatible with the religion of Islam. It is an ideology that is a perversion of Islam and a perversion of the truth.

Defeating this ideology is one of the great challenges of our time. But it cannot be defeated through military intervention alone. It will not be defeated through the maintenance of a permanent, defensive counter-terrorism operation, however skillful its leaders and practitioners. It will only be defeated when we turn people’s minds away from this violence — and make them understand that our values – pluralistic, British values — are superior to anything offered by the preachers and supporters of hate.

Second, we cannot allow this ideology the safe space it needs to breed. Yet that is precisely what the internet – and the big companies that provide internet-based services – provide. We need to work with allied, democratic governments to reach international agreements that regulate cyberspace to prevent the spread of extremism and terrorist planning. And we need to do everything we can at home to reduce the risks of extremism online.

Third, while we need to deprive the extremists of their safe spaces online, we must not forget about the safe spaces that continue to exist in the real world. Yes, that means taking military action to destroy ISIS in Iraq and Syria. But it also means taking action here at home. While we have made significant progress in recent years, there is – to be frank – far too much tolerance of extremism in our country.

So we need to become far more robust in identifying it and stamping it out – across the public sector and across society. That will require some difficult and often embarrassing conversations, but the whole of our country needs to come together to take on this extremism – and we need to live our lives not in a series of separated, segregated communities but as one truly United Kingdom.

Fourth, we have a robust counterterrorism strategy that has proved successful over many years. But as the nature of the threat we face becomes more complex, more fragmented, more hidden, especially online, the strategy needs to keep up. So in light of what we are learning about the changing threat, we need to review Britain’s counter-terrorism strategy to make sure the police and security services have all the powers they need.[…]

    • CNN Theresa May: Internet must be regulated to prevent terrorism

[…]It was not immediately clear how May would crack down on social media and internet firms, but she has long been an advocate of increased government surveillance powers.

Not everyone is convinced that additional restrictions would be effective.
Peter Neumann, a professor who studies political violence and radicalization at King’s College in London, said that blaming social media is “politically convenient but intellectually lazy.”

Neumann said that few people are radicalized exclusively online. And efforts by major social media firms to crack down on extremists accounts have pushed their conversations off public sites and onto encrypted messaging platforms.

“This has not solved problem, just made it different,” he said on Twitter.
The attack comes as tech giants come under increased pressure in Europe over their policing of violent and hate speech.

Europe’s top regulator released data last week that showed that Twitter (TWTR, Tech30) has failed to take down a majority of hate speech posts after they had been flagged. Facebook (FB, Tech30) and YouTube fared better, removing 66% of reported hate speech.

On Sunday, Twitter pointed to data that showed it suspended more than 375,000 accounts in the second half of 2016 for violations related to the promotion of terrorism.

Facebook and Google (GOOGL, Tech30) did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

In the U.K., a parliamentary committee report published last month alleged that social media firms have prioritized profit over user safety by continuing to host unlawful content. The report also called for “meaningful fines” if the companies do not quickly improve.

“The biggest and richest social media companies are shamefully far from taking sufficient action to tackle illegal and dangerous content,” the report said. “Given their immense size, resources and global reach, it is completely irresponsible of them to fail to abide by the law.”[…]

the telegraph -Theresa May calls on internet companies to eradicate ‘safe spaces’ for extremism in wake of London Bridge terror attack

[…]Mr Duncan Smith described the perpetrators of the London Bridge attack as “scum” as he said internet companies must do more to limit the spread of extremist material.

He also suggested that the Government should consider introducing “in-house incarceration” for terror suspects.

He told the BBC: “The Prime Minister today made it clear that whatever the security services need in new laws in tightening up if necessary to have in-house incarceration, we will have to have a look at that.

“Also to make sure the cyber companies no longer allow our children to be able to go through these sites – lots of parents don’t know what their children are looking at right now – and only the cyber companies, only these big companies that operate in the internet they need to face up to their responsibilities as well.

“I think many people out there worry that they have avoided this for too long, made excuses, found reasons why not.

“If we want to protect people’s human rights the first thing we have to do is therefore make sure those who would take them away from them violently they need to be dealt with and that requires those companies hugely to step up.”

  21. Nigel Farage says London blighted by ‘wholly Muslim areas’ as he defends Donald Trump’s response to the attack (telegraph, Jun 4, 2017)
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/06/04/nigel-farage-says-london-blighted-wholly-muslim-areas-defends/

“Nigel Farage has criticised Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, for his response to Saturday night’s attack – accusing him of being “hidebound by political correctness” and praising President Donald Trump for his own, controversial, reaction to the news.

Mr Farage appeared on Fox News on Sunday morning, and told the American audience that the mayor was too timid in his response.

“I understand the man not wanting to spread panic,” said Mr Farage.

“But I would like him to say, as the first Muslim mayor, I am going to drive radicals out of our mosques. I am going to work to end extremism in our schools.

“And I didn’t hear a word of that.”

He drew a parallel with the sexual assault of young girls by Muslim men in the north of England, saying: “And yet we did nothing about it; afraid to offend the Muslim community. We have been hidebound by political correctness.”

The former Ukip leader instead praised his friend Mr Trump, whose first response to Saturday’s attack was to demand that the courts stop blocking his travel ban. Only later did the US president offer condolences and support.

On Sunday Mr Trump was once again on the offensive, attacking Mr Khan and mocking him for saying Londoners should not be alarmed by the increased police presence on London’s streets. Fox News has repeatedly played edited clips of Mr Khan’s speech, saying: “Do not be alarmed” – and failing to give his full words, which urged Londoners not to be alarmed by the police numbers.

Mr Farage said he appreciated the US leader’s response – criticised in America as “tone deaf”.

“To Americans – let this be a warning to you,” said Mr Farage. “Your president wants to protect you. Yet your judiciary is trying to stop him.”

He told his US audience that east London – scene of Sunday’s arrests – would “be the absolute number one” area of interest for the investigation.

“There are quite big areas of east London that have become wholly Muslim areas,” he said.

“There are gangs of men out saying to women in short dresses there shouldn’t be there; to people in having a drink that they shouldn’t be there.

“There are parts of Paris and parts of Brussels that are even worse. Any woman, in a normal manner, if she walks down the streets, she will receive abuse.”…”

  23. After Middle East, Will Islamists Uproot Christians in Europe?

    by Giulio Meotti
    June 4, 2017 at 6:00 am

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/10455/islamists-uproot-christians

We do not yet know enough about the three terrorists who, saying “This is for Allah!”, killed and wounded so many in London on June 4, but consider these two recent scenes:

Scene one: Manchester, United Kingdom, the “free world”. A British-born Muslim terrorist prays in a former church. All around him, the Christian sites and congregations accepted being turned into Islamic sites. The day after, this terrorist goes on a rampage, murdering 22 concert-goers.

Scene two: Minya, Egypt, the “unfree world”. An Islamist terror group stops a bus full of Christian pilgrims. The terrorists demand that their victims recite the Islamic creed, the shahaada. The Christians refuse to abandon Christianity and become Muslims. The Islamists murder them, one by one.

What do these scenes tell us? Christians resist Islam more in the Middle East than in Europe.

Salman Abedi, the British terrorist who massacred 22 innocent men, women and children at the Manchester Arena, could, every day, enter what was once a beautiful Christian church, consecrated in 1883. It was desecrated in the 1960s, during a great wave of secularization. People still remember the Methodist Church that it was until it was bought by the local Syrian Muslim community to make it a place of Islamic worship, the Didsbury Mosque. One can still see the typical architecture of a church, from the bell tower to the windows. But inside, instead of an altar, Abedi would be headed to the mihrab, the niche in the mosque that indicates the direction of Mecca. The pulpit is still there, but it is no longer used by a Christian pastor. It is used by the imam for the Khutba, the Islamic prayer.

  24. Accept Islamic Terror as the New Normal?

    by Nonie Darwish
    June 4, 2017 at 5:00 am

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/10474/islamic-terror-new-normal

After terror attacks, we often hear from Western media and politicians that we must accept terrorist attacks as the “new normal.”

For Western citizens, this phrase is dangerous.

Islam’s doctrine of jihad, expansion and dawah (Islamic outreach, proselytizing) rely heavily on the use of both terror and luring. Targhib wal tarhib is an Islamic doctrine that means “seducing (luring) and terrorizing” as a tool for dawah, to conquer nations and force citizens to submit to Islamic law, sharia. It amounts to manipulating the instinctive parts of the human brain with extreme opposing pressures of pleasure and pain — rewarding, then severely punishing — to brainwash people into complying with Islam.

Most ordinary Muslims are not even aware of this doctrine, but Islamic books have been written about it. Mainstream Muslim sheikhs such as Salman Al Awda have discussed it on Al Jazeera TV. On a show called “Sharia and Life,” Al Awda recommended using extremes “to exaggerate… reward and punishment, morally and materially… in both directions”. “The use of terror under this doctrine,”‘ he said, “is a legitimate sharia obligation.”

People in the West think of terror as something that Islamic jihadists inflict on non-Muslims, and it is. But terror is also the mechanism for ensuring compliance within Islam. Under Islamic law, jihadists who evade performing jihad are to be killed. Terror is thus the threat that keeps jihadists on their missions, and that make ordinary Muslims obey sharia.

    • “It amounts to manipulating the instinctive parts of the human brain with extreme opposing pressures of pleasure and pain — rewarding, then severely punishing — to brainwash people into complying with Islam.”

Pavlov, does that name ring a bell?

Calling incessant Islamic terrorism “the new normal” is nothing other than a criminal attempt to desensitize people with respect to fighting for their own existence. This goes well beyond treasonous appeasement and into the realm of persuading people that their lives have no value in comparison to the whole, “Can’t we all just get along?”* mantra.

      * Incidentally, the answer to this question is a resounding “no”, and it always has been an emphatic “no”, throughout the entire history of mankind. With the advent of Islam, there was introduced into human society a faction that permanently refused to get along EVER.

They were quiet family, not politically minded, and they did not get involved in community unrest or gossip. Fear of people knocking on the door, or of a stranger showing up in the neighborhood with unknown intentions, drove them to withdraw from society. They were careful, so careful, that they barely mingled with anyone. They were our neighbors in Iran and trusted us enough to visit with us, until one day, they no longer did.

We checked on them out of concern. Their house was empty. There was no note, no goodbyes to anyone; they were just gone. Despite being our friends, they had never mentioned their last name. We had no way to track them down, to make sure they were safe and unharmed.

Then someone mentioned that they were from the Baha’i religious minority. He explained that the government had finally come for them. All of their fear and seclusion now had a reason. You could see how protective and careful the father was, how fearful and silent the mother was, and how their daughter would never venture far from home. I had thought their problem was just paranoia. In that moment, you see that you, too, have reason to be afraid.

  26. SPAIN – June 03 2017 -Moroccan Muslim disrupt a wedding in Valladolid yelling allah akbar

“Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann has called for increased powers for intelligence agencies to fight terrorism, including placing minors and children linked to Islamists under surveillance nationwide.

In an interview published in a number of German newspapers belonging to the Funke media group, Herrmann said that the age of terrorists is getting younger and younger and so the BfV, Germany’s domestic security service, must be allowed to place minors under surveillance.

“In Bavaria, we have abolished the age limit for surveillance,” he said. “Normally, the domestic intelligence agency in Bavaria would not place children under surveillance. But if there is concrete evidence that a 12-year-old is with an Islamist group, we have to be able to monitor them, too.”

“I would strongly urge for the age limit for surveillance [carried out by the BfV] to be lowered throughout Germany,” he added…”

  28. Professor told he’s not safe on campus after college protests

As a biology professor for 15 years at Olympia’s The Evergreen State College, Bret Weinstein has seen his share of protests, but he’s never been afraid of being on campus until this week.

“I have been told by the Chief of Police it’s not safe for me to be on campus,” said Weinstein, who held his Thursday class in a downtown Olympia park.

An administrator confirmed the police department advised Weinstein it “might be best to stay off campus for a day or so.”

Demonstrations involving as many as 200 students filled classrooms and the President’s office on campus on Tuesday and Wednesday. Protesters are upset over what they believe are racist policies at the college, and some called for Weinstein to resign.

Earlier this school year Weinstein raised concerns about proposed policy changes, including one that would have race play a larger role in the hiring process.

Weinstein, who is white, said opposing that idea does not make him a racist.

“When one opposes these proposals, what happens is one is stigmatized as ‘anti-equity’ and because I am light-skinned the narrative suggests I’m a person who has benefited from privilege and that I’m trying to preserve that privilege in the face of a legitimate challenge,” said Weinstein.

Nearly 20 of his students attended his Thursday class in the park.

They said they do not consider him a racist.

But when an African American student, one of the protesters, heard Weinstein was advised to stay off campus, she responded, “If he feels unsafe or frightened for two days, he can only imagine what black and brown bodies have feared for years.”

An earlier version of this story identified the African American woman who spoke on behalf of the campus protestors. We have removed her name and blurred her image because she told KING 5 she fears she could be retaliated against.

NOTE: What’s this protestor so afraid of? Does she really think that Professor Weinstein is going to come after her? Or is it that she just can’t overcome the urge to draw attention to herself? Perhaps she actually realizes how reprehensible her own actions are and rightfully fears a well-deserved session of parking lot therapy. Not likely, but we can always hope.

When the Sweden Democrats gathered for a party conference in Norrköping in central Sweden this weekend, a recurring theme on the programme was the party’s image among the public, and what party activists should do in order to attract more voters.
