  1. “The Prime Minister will pledge ‘the greatest expansion of workers’ rights by any Tory government in history’ as she sets out a raft of new entitlements to woo Labour voters.

Employees with family members who fall sick – such as elderly parents – will be able to take up to 12 months’ unpaid leave to provide full-time care while their jobs are kept on hold.”

The point is, you can play these games within a huge Communist bloc, to have work revolve around each worker’s life, each according to their needs. However, entering a world economy which rapidly adapts and changes, and must be reliable and consistent, does not bode well for hiring people in their fifties who are entitled to a year off and their positions kept open with expensive temps having to fill in.

Every shelf the State creates, is full.

Saddled by the yoke of the Welfare and the Private Government Sector. Will the last Briton turn out the light when they leave.

  2. This is an interesting although a bit tedious article under the banner of the London School of Economics and Political Science.

    http://blogs.lse.ac.uk/politicsandpolicy/why-the-fear-of-islamization-is-driving-populist-right-support/#comments

If I could boil it down it says that we of the CJ are uninformed hicks that have our stats wrong and are subject to inaccurate fear mongering.
The last several paragraphs claim that several countries in the ME have barely replacement level fertility rates and our fear of being overrun by Islam is unwarranted… I note the author didn’t say anything about the invasion from Africa and their fertility rate.

Sure would appreciate it if someone here would wade through and give some thoughts.

    • Right wing populism is not right wing unless the Left has moved the goal posts on you. Waving your flag is now “right wing”.

The London School of Economics, don’t forget, is where socialists go to learn socialist Keynesian economics. This is where Soros went and he learned well.

I haven’t had time to read the whole article yet (I actually have a job that adds real value to tangible materials from which our society derives its wealth and not from government) but I doubt anywhere does it mention that not all human capital is equivalent. From what I see the article uses typical commie sophistry to disarm and marginalize the Hijrah’s harsh reality to our western eyes.

    • From all I have read the only place in the world where the fertility and birth rates are either remaining high or increasing is in Africa. The fertility rate and birth rate in the Middle East are dropping just as the rates in the West are dropping. However saying that this invalidates the Counter Jihad movement and makes the fears of Islamization of the west false is very dishonest.

Our fears are based on the way the Western Governments are allowing the Islamic Invaders to force the Western Nations to follow Sharia law rather then forcing the Islamic Invaders to follow the laws in out nations.

      • Thank you. That is EXACTLY how I feel today. I wish I could put that clip on a T shirt.

        • You’re welcome Eeyore. Fast, fast, hurry, hurry; but for me it’s like watching a train wreck in slow motion, and having no power to stop it. But one has to be careful and not to keep focusing on the wreck or we will become part of it. Remember we are in this world but not of it. So raise up the sails and board C.S. Lewis’s ship: The Good Ship Antidote 🙂

C.S. Lewis: A Leap in the Dark

Lewis: I was suddenly compelled to read the Hippolytus of Euripides.

“Oh God, bring me to the sea’s end
To the Hesperides, sisters of evening,
Who sing alone in their islands
          Where the golden apples grow,
And the Lord of Oceans guards the way
          From all who would sail
          Into their night-blue harbors —
Let me escape to the rim of the world
          Where the tremendous firmament meets
The earth, and Atlas holds the universe
          In his palms.
For there, in the palace of Zeus,
Wells of ambrosia pour through the chambers,
While the sacred earth lavishes life
          And Time adds his years
          Only to heaven’s happiness”

… I was off once more into the land of longing, my heart at once broken and exalted as it had never been since the old days. I was overwhelmed. I called it Joy.

          • CS Lewis: ” I was going up Headington Hill on the top of a bus. Without words, and almost without images, a fact about myself was somehow presented to me. I became aware that I was holding something at bay.”

This is the inner dialogue of the mind.

            It’s a language of fear.
Islam, Communism and Anti-Straight justify why they hold on to it. Excuses.

Having lived in Oxford as a young man, I too went up Headington Hill, on the top of a bus.

However, I chose meditation to identify this yearning’s source, and released it.

For me, my resentment to my own earthly father’s constant bullying, had been the reason for seeking a father externally. To replace compensate for the father I rejected in me. To never be like my father. The baby out with the bathwater.
To placate the consequential emptiness crying out to be filled, pride entered.

            Filling-the-void could not be easier.

And these Three Wise Men knew it:
            1. Pretending.
Homosexuals drawing strength off other males until the game is up when yet another female is discovered within them. Musical chairs.
            2. Perpetual Female-before-God adoration of The Holy Father, until He also turned female; tarnished with the likeness of them, diluting over time into
the Anglican Church or Mother Mary worship.
            3. Abject submitters before their brutally ruthless Allah.
Femaled, but in ‘lock-down,’ afraid they might get any worse. Very touchy.

Luckily, in the pre-Paulian scriptures and direct from Jesus is
repentance, forgiveness, closure and release. To get up and walk.

I literally sat my demon-father down, apologized to him while expecting to die at his hands, handing back my curse, and all his power over me vanished.

Silence is a friend. Not to be avoided because of anxiety.

Why am I here? Why are you not here?

es: Man reportedly carrying human head stabs employee at Estacada store

ESTACADA, Ore. – A man reportedly covered in blood, holding a knife and carrying what appeared to be a human head walked into an Estacada grocery store and stabbed an employee Sunday afternoon, according to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.

    The suspect is in custody.

The man, who has not been identified, walked into Estacada Thriftway Harvest Market at around 2:15 p.m.

Once inside, he stabbed a store employee, who was flown to a hospital, according to Sandy Police. The condition of the employee was not immediately known.

Employees at the store then tackled the suspect and held him down until police arrived, Estacada Fire said. The suspect was taken to a hospital after being brought into custody.

At 2:35 p.m., a 911 caller reported finding a woman who appeared to be dead inside a home in the 25000 block of Elwood Road in Colton, about 10 miles from the store. Deputies arrived at the home and located a body.

Investigators determined the death occurred at the Elwood Road home. They believe the man who walked into the Estacada store and attacked the employee is the suspect. They say there is no threat to the public at this time.

    An investigation is ongoing.

VLAD GOES BALLISTIC Vladimir Putin demands the West ‘stop intimidating North Korea’ despite crackpot Kim Jong-un launching a missile that landed just 60 miles off Russia

Vlad said: ‘We must stop intimidating North Korea and find a peaceful solution to this problem’

VLADIMIR Putin waded into the North Korea crisis this morning and told Donald Trump: ‘Stop bullying Kim.’

Russia’s ironman leader warned the “intimidation” of Kim Jong-un’s regime must end.

He said: “We must stop intimidating North Korea and find a peaceful solution to this problem.”

But Vlad also had words of warning for the wannabe nuclear state – telling Kim he must not build his nuclear arsenal.

  5. Weird: Accused Russian hacker says FBI offered bribes if he’d confess to hacking election
    By J.E. Dyer May 15, 2017

    http://libertyunyielding.com/2017/05/15/weird-accused-russian-hacker-says-fbi-offered-bribes-hed-confess-hacking-election/

In an odd development last week, a Russian national accused of major, high-profile hacks back in 2012 and 2013 sent a letter to the Russian-language TV broadcast of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL), claiming that the FBI has basically been trying to bribe him to confess to hacking systems related to the U.S. election.

The individual in question is 29-year-old Yevgeniy Nikulin, a Russian who was arrested in Prague in October 2016 in response to an Interpol warrant. Nikulin is under indictment by a U.S. federal court in California for allegedly hacking into LinkedIn, DropBox, and Formspring in 2012 and 2013, events in which millions of user names and passwords were stolen.

Nikulin, according to the Russians, is also under indictment in his home country for online money theft. The warrant was issued, however, immediately after Nikulin was first arrested by the Czechs on behalf of the United States.

So far, so good. These facts were all reported at the time, although they didn’t gain much attention outside of the IT and financial/business media.

In November, the U.S. formally requested extradition from the Czech Republic. Given the very large data heists involved in the 2012-13 hacks, there’s nothing unusual about that. Nikulin’s case has been percolating through the relevant Czech courts in the months since. The Russians want Nikulin too, and have asked Prague not to extradite him to the U.S. before they’ve had the chance to make their case.

    • This sounds like something the Deep State and the left would do but we have to be careful in believing this “confession” because it fits what we want to believe too well.

  6. Demonization of Soros recalls old anti-Semitic conspiracies (abcnews, May 15, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/demonization-soros-recalls-anti-semitic-conspiracies-47413705

“In most nations, having a billionaire financier and philanthropist would be a source of great pride, a person many elected officials would want to cozy up to.

    Not for George Soros.

The demonization of the American-Hungarian billionaire and Holocaust survivor has spread across Central Europe, with the 86-year-old increasingly accused by nationalists of using his money to force his liberal values, including support for refugees, on their societies.

And it’s not just those on the fringes, but elected officials who are attributing all manner of sins to Soros, a political strategy that seems aimed at de-legitimizing projects that Soros has supported in Central and Eastern Europe’s transition to democracy.

This groundswell began in late 2015, as large numbers of migrants and refugees were arriving in Europe. A far-right nationalist at an anti-refugee rally in Poland set fire to an effigy of an Orthodox Jew as a crowd chanted slogans against Islam and the European Union. The man said the Jewish figure represented Soros.

It wasn’t always this way. In 2012, Poland’s then-president, Bronislaw Komorowski, bestowed one of the country’s highest orders on Soros, thanking him for his contributions to a nascent democratic civil society after communism.

Soros’ donations have advanced human rights, the rule of law, public health, LGBT and Roma rights, education and even improved transportation. Many of the leaders turning against him now — including Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban — got scholarships from Soros in the 1990s to study in the West or received research grants.

Officials today are much more likely to accuse Soros destroying their countries.

Liviu Dragnea, chairman of Romania’s ruling Social Democratic Party, says Soros and his work “have fed evil in Romania.”

Krystyna Pawlowicz, a lawmaker with the ruling conservatives in Poland, called him the “most dangerous man in the world” on Radio Maryja, a Catholic broadcaster. She said his foundations “finance anti-Christian and anti-national activities.”

Sociologists see such rhetoric, which gives Soros almost supernatural abilities to destroy traditional societies, as a modern manifestation of old anti-Semitic conspiracies amid new populist rage against elites and the European Union.

“This narrative about Soros as an evil presence started with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and it is spreading,” said Jacek Kucharczyk, a sociologist and director of the Institute of Public Affairs in Warsaw. “It is a witch hunt that is being promoted by authoritarian right-wing populists.”

“And there is an undertone of anti-Semitism behind it. Because he promotes liberal values, has a Jewish background and is a billionaire, he is the perfect figure for explaining to hard-core voters why the world is the way it is,” he said.

Kucharczyk, whose institute receives some Soros funding, said in places like Russia and Poland, where anti-Semitism has deep roots, Soros is “a very useful enemy to have.”

Soros says his fight against intolerance is rooted in his own experience of living through the Nazi occupation of Hungary — which his family survived by hiding their Jewish identities. He has given away $12 billion to date, according to his Open Society Foundations.

Of that, $400 million has gone to Hungary, where Orban, the prime minister, has taken steps that could force the closure in Budapest of the acclaimed Central European University, which Soros founded in 1991 to help support the region’s emerging democracies.

Orban has described Soros as an “American financial speculator attacking Hungary” who has “destroyed the lives of millions of Europeans.”

Frans Timmermans, first vice president of the European Commission, said he found that language anti-Semitic — prompting an angry reaction from the Hungarian government, with Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto saying Budapest’s disputes with Soros have “absolutely nothing to do” with his Jewish origins.

Laura Silber, a spokeswoman at Soros’ Open Society Foundations, said Orban’s attacks on Soros are an attempt to distract Hungarians from the country’s real problems.

“Orban is using George Soros as a scapegoat in an effort to deflect attention from issues of real importance to the Hungarian people, such as the country’s deteriorating health care and education,” Silber said.

The Associated Press requested an interview with Soros, but Silber said that he wasn’t giving any interviews.

Rafal Pankowski, head of Never Again, an anti-racism organization in Warsaw, says the “current tendency to see Soros as a central figure in an alleged global Jewish conspiracy” is growing along with a rise in xenophobia and hate speech.

“Soros is a convenient target for those who reject liberal values and the vision of an open, pluralist society,” said Pankowski, who gets no Soros funding. “Anti-Semitism is a core element of nationalist identity across Eastern and Central Europe.”

The anti-Soros mood is particularly strong in Macedonia, where many right-wingers blame him for a political crisis that has dragged on for two years over a massive illegal wiretapping operation of top leaders that has revealed wrongdoing. A group called Stop Operation Soros, or SOS, emerged in January.

Poland’s ruling party leader, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, accuses Soros of trying to destroy traditional societies by forcing multiculturalism on them.

“The ideas of Mr. Soros, ideas of societies that have no identity, are convenient ideas for those who have billions, because such a society is extremely easy to manipulate,” Kaczynski said.

Mark Weitzman, director of government affairs for the Simon Wiesenthal Center, a Jewish human rights group, sees the rhetoric as “reminiscent of previous anti-Semitic patterns.”

“This is not to say that Soros should be above criticism. But there are certainly other elements involved that go beyond legitimate and specific criticism and focus on his Jewish roots,” Weitzman said. There’s a need by some “to create a global manipulative Jewish monster which can be blamed for all the evils and problems.””

    • A White Wash effort, his sins are too well known for this to do any good.

Over the weekend I talked with a life long Democrat who is a Trump supporter who says that Trump will take down Soros. He also said the only way for the left to stop this is to assassinate Trump and that he hopes this doesn’t happen.

  7. FBI Agents Association endorses congressman who led Benghazi investigation for director
By LU Staff May 14, 2017

The FBI Agents Association (FBIAA) urged President Donald Trump to nominate former House Intelligence Committee Chairman and FBI Special Agent Mike Rogers ?
    56%
to replace James Comey as director of the FBI.

“Chairman Rogers exemplifies the principles that should be possessed by the next FBI Director,” FBIAA President Thomas F. O’Connor said in a statement Saturday. Rogers, who led a two-year investigation on the 2012 terrorist attack in Benghazi, interviewed for the director position Saturday.

The FBIAA, which represents over 13,000 active duty and retired agents, said Rogers was uniquely qualified to lead the FBI. “Rogers’ unique and diverse experience will allow him to effectively lead the men and women of the Bureau as we work to protect our country from criminal and terrorist threats,” O’Connor said.

Rogers briefly led President Donald Trump’s national security transition team in 2016 before being let go just days after the election. Rogers served as a Special Agent for the FBI in Chicago during the late eighties and early 1990s before leaving the Bureau to launch his political career. He served as a Michigan state senator before serving seven terms in Congress starting in 2000.

The New Prime Minister, chosen by Macron, is bad news for the Jews of France. He is/was millitantly “pro-Palestiiiiiiiinian” and we know what that means.

Unfortunately, the usual “Judenräte” (Grif), pretending to represent the “interests of the Jewish community” were agitating against Marine Le Pen and pushed the community to vote for Macron. That community is now pretty much alone.

      • Like the Jewish leaders in France who even Rita, the Judeophile said, directed the Jewish community to vote against Le Pen and for Macron?

Cause frankly at this stage I hope they get whats coming to them first. You can maybe prevent murder but suicide? Way harder. If any other community consistently voted for their own demise how long are you gonna protect them?

In Canada, the Jewish community is also left and multiculti overall. But they voted for Harper cause he was clearly a friend to Israel and the Jewish people. But everywhere else? Wow.

        • They deserve a lot but I am not sure they deserve genocide. but that is what they are going to get.

          • It’s a mystery as to why Western Jews are seemingly unable to learn from Israel’s own travails and, thereby, better comprehend the requirement for harsh retaliation against Islamic persecution.

I also agree that they are currently undeserving of genocide. That said, as with Liberals in general, there will come a point where they must be jettisoned as a matter of sheer survival.

Western nations simply cannot withstand the ongoing loss of human capital and financial outlay required to endure the cost of tolerating a continued Muslim presence.

If that equation is unacceptable to American and European Jews, then they had best shuffle off to Buffalo Jericho. We kuffar already are at the tipping point with respect to enduring any further arrivals or predations of Muslim invaders.

If Liberal Western Jews desire to complicate the rejection ejection of these Islamic interlopers, then they must accept the fact that sheer survival eventually will dictate the need for an unencumbered way to repatriate all Muslims to their historic countries of origin. Anything less is, essentially, an open invitation to 911 – 2.0.

If Western Liberal Jews are unable to accept the need for this, then they instantly become part of the problem. To repeat: Lumping Liberal Jews with treacherous colonizing Muslims is an unavoidable artifact of continued (and successful) Western survival—regardless of Antisemitism or any other facet of cultural dispute.

As a sane person, I welcome any debate or refinement of these issues.

            • I know, we are rapidly approaching the point where we will have to ally with anyone who will fight the jihad and worry about them at a later date. When this time arrives we will have to accept many things that I personally hate.

      • I do too, Richard. And not only the Jews. Remember the brave Police Man who dared criticising the “Kalif of ISIS”? and got attacked etc.? He is now living in exile, having to leave France. .

This PM, appointed by the new French President, has – as Mayor of Le Havre facilitated the building of mosques and is also very close to the French chapter of the Muslim Brotherhood. His appointment is very bad news for our side.

        In this article titled:
The Muslim Association “Havre De Savoir” and the Essalam Mosque in Le Havre, a source of propagation of militant and anti-Zionist political Islam
You can see the photos etc. (without needing to read French) of the new French Prime Minister’s “closest friends and collaborators”:

        • Right now once it all goes south the patriots can come to the US and form governments in exile but what happens if the Dems win another Presidential election before the war is over? These are the things we have to worry about.

          • …what happens if the Dems win another Presidential election before the [civil] war is over?

Too right, mate! This question remains a proverbial, “trout in the milk pail”. As in; extremely difficult to explain but totally impossible to deny.

How to make people understand why enraged surviving Conservatives justifiably believe that even a single subsequent Democratic term in the Oval Office could completely erase four (or even eight) years of countervailing politics.

One would think that North Korea’s triumphant emergence from eight long years of smugly crouching beneath the sheltering wing of 0bama’s flaccid “soft power” might have alarmed America’s Democrats.

Instead (and entirely contrary to present circumstances), it seems as though this profound threat to global stability is being dismissed as something that’s merely an opportunity for Western powers to pretentiously strut and posture.

            • They are living in a fantasy world where the only danger to the world is Conservative White Men. This is why things are going to get violent in the US before too long, they have taught too many kids that we are evil and they are ready to make their moves. It is gong to get dangerous in the Big Cities before this year is over and in the smaller towns next year.

            • Slightly OT not too long ago I posted an article about how the next freshman class at MU will be 35% smaller then in 2015, today I learned that enough students are transferring to other Universities that MU will lose 1/2 of its students in the fall semester.

Another good University ruined by the left.

    • I want them all to convert asap. Change their names to Moh or Abdul and go full zombie.
~It’s exceedingly terrible PR. Like calling mad-dog tardish murderers “crazy” and giving genuine nutters a bad name.

      These are Jew-ish, sorta un-Jews.

  9. New book reveals Team Clinton came up Russia scandal as excuse for Hillary’s loss
By Jeff Dunetz May 14, 2017

Ever wonder why the Russia scandal story became a big deal? According to a book written by Politico editor Jonathan Allen and Amy Parnes, who writes for The Hill, the Clinton campaign hatched the Russia narrative 24 hours after Hillary Clinton’s loss as an excuse for their campaign failure!

The campaign didn’t invent the Russia story, but after the Hillary loss they began an incredible marketing effort with the help of every Democrat and the mainstream media.

The authors of “Shattered” spoke to multiple campaign sources and Clinton campaign staffers, and the section that follows highlights how Clinton’s strategy for explaining her losing the campaign she was supposed to win, the Russia scandal story, was invented in the late night hours by campaign managers John Podesta and Robbie Mook:

  10. Germany will look for alternatives to Turkey’s Incirlik Airbase – Merkel (RT, May 15, 2017)
    https://www.rt.com/news/388415-german-troops-incirlik-relocation/

“Germany will consider relocation of its troops from Turkey’s airbase Incirlik following a recent refusal by Ankara to allow German MPs to visit soldiers stationed there, says Chancellor Angela Merkel.

“We will continue to talk with Turkey, but in parallel we will have to explore other ways of fulfilling our mandate,” Merkel said. “That means looking at alternatives to Incirlik, and one alternative among others is Jordan.”..”

    • Turkey blocks German lawmaker visit to soldiers at air base (abcnews, May 15, 2017)
      http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/turkey-blocks-german-lawmaker-visit-soldiers-air-base-47413511

“Turkey has blocked a request for German lawmakers to visit their country’s soldiers at the Incirlik air base, the German government said Monday, increasing the possibility that it might relocate planes supporting the campaign against the Islamic State group.

Germany has about 270 troops at the base. The refusal was communicated to Germany’s ambassador over the weekend, Foreign Ministry spokesman Martin Schaefer told reporters.

He said Turkey indicated the refusal was tied to Germany’s decision to grant asylum to Turkish soldiers accused by Ankara of participating in last year’s failed coup.

“This is unfortunate, and we have made this clear through various channels,” Chancellor Angela Merkel said.

Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel plans to raise the issue at a meeting with allies in Washington this week, Schaefer said.

Defense Ministry spokesman Jens Flosdorff said the military is examining moving Germany’s Tornado reconnaissance jets and a refueling plane from Incirlik to another country.

Merkel reinforced that point, noting that “one possible alternative, among others, is Jordan.”

The Incirlik refusal, which follows a similar standoff last year, is the latest in a long line of irritants in Turkish-German relations…”

        • The Geopolitical model, the Von Clausewitz one, suggests that Turkey is always going to be vying for control of the Middle East, North Africa and Europe and that the period we all grew up in is very rare in history where Turkey castrated itself due to its huge defeat after WW1.

The role Islam plays is obvious. A religion of manifest destiny for a people of a geography that has conquest as an inevitability.

I dont know what I think of that proposition overall other than I think you have to factor in geopolitics to your equations as its considerably influential.

          • He is right, just as Russia is always going to try and expand its borders so there are subject nations on their near abroad. Erdogan stated his plans when he said that all land that once belonged to Turkey will once again become part of Turkey. We are going to have to help the Eastern European nations that use to be part of the Turkish Empire so they can remain free, just as we are going to have to help the nations of Western Europe. Many people including some who are regular contributors to this blog say that we should let the Western Europeans become paft of the Islamic world because they aren’t willing to fight for their freedom. This point of view is short sighted, North American needs a free and independent Europe as much as they need a free and independent North America.

Despite their occasional flirtation with despotism the Europeans are our relatives, in most cases not close relatives but relatives. When relatives make mistakes and move into a fantasy world you try and help them find their way back to reality. The European elites have moved into the fantasy world of Karl Marx, but not all of them have done so. The fact that the self proclaimed elite have decided to commit suicide is no reason to allow the freedom loving people to become slaves. Yes the people who voted for Marcon deserve their future but what about Generation Identity? They are fighting so we have to help them regain their freedom, there is no other honorable path that can be taken.

“Pakistani police killed four Islamic militants in a shootout in a central district on Monday, according to an official with the country’s counterterrorism department.

The militants were killed when the police returned fire in a raid in the Khanewal district, said Chaudhry Mohammad Saleem, the official. He said the militants were from Jamat-ul-Ahrar, a breakaway faction of the Pakistani Taliban.

The faction has also expressed support for the Islamic State group but has not pledged allegiance to it.

Hand grenades, assault rifles and a cache of explosives were seized in the raid, Saleem said, adding that three other suspects managed to escape from the scene…”

“Iran’s state TV says gunmen opened fire on the police in the southern city of Ahvaz, killing two policemen.

Col. Ali Ghasempour, deputy police chief of the oil-rich Khuzestan province where Ahvaz is located, says the attack is under investigation.

The semi-official ILNA news agency says gunmen attacked a police station in Ahvaz on Monday morning, setting off a shootout that also wounded four policemen.

None of the reports identified the gunmen, who managed to escape and were said to be at large.

Ahvaz was the scene of a series of deadly bombings and shootouts blamed on Arab separatists living in the region.”

  14. Mafia controlled Italy migrant centre, say police (BBC, May 15, 2017)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-39922085

“One of Italy’s largest migrant centres has been in the hands of the mafia for more than a decade, police have said.

Police say the Arena clan made money by providing services at Isola di Capo Rizzuto in Italy’s far south and siphoning off state funds.

The clan is alleged to have hidden behind a local Catholic charity which officially runs the centre.

The claims came to light on Monday, when officers arrested 68 people, including a local priest.
Another of those arrested was Leonardo Sacco, head of the Catholic Misericordia association that is supposed to control the Sant’Anna Cara immigrant centre. The centre holds 1,500 people at a time.

It is alleged the Arena clan, part of the powerful ‘Ndrangheta crime syndicate, may have taken more than a third of the €100m ($109m/£85m) destined for the centre in the past 10 years.

The priest, named as Edoardo Scordio, had received €132,000 already this year for “spiritual services”, an assistant prosecutor alleged.

Police in Catanzaro, a city in the southern Calabria region, said more than 500 agents were involved in the arrests of suspects “accused of mafia association, extortion, carrying illegal weapons, fraud, embezzlement to the detriment of the state, (and) theft”.

The arrests come two years after L’Espresso magazine published an investigation, alleging funds were being stolen and managers were making money by starving the migrants who lived there.

A year earlier, it was alleged the number of migrants said to be living at the centre had been greatly over exaggerated, while in 2013 a health inspection found asylum seekers were being fed small portions of out-of-date food.

Police believe the clan, through Mr Sacco, was awarding contracts, including for food supplies, to other members of the ‘Ndrangheta syndicate, as well as setting up its own associations.

According to Rosy Bindi, the head of parliament’s anti-mafia commission, the centre had effectively been transformed into “a money printing operation for organised crime”.

“This operation shows the ability of the mafia to take advantage of the weaknesses and fragility of our times with its predatory and parasitic approach,” she added.”

A recently unearthed essay co-written by Barack Obama in 1991 stated that the American dream is to be Donald Trump.

Penned while the former president was a graduate student at Harvard Law — with the help of fellow classmate Robert Fisher — “Race and Rights Rhetoric” summed up the American mindset as “a continuing normative commitment to the ideals of individual freedom and mobility, values that extend far beyond the issue of race in the American mind.”

“The depth of this commitment may be summarily dismissed as the unfounded optimism of the average American—I may not be Donald Trump now, but just you wait; if I don’t make it, my children will.”

The excerpt of that previously unpublished law school paper found its way inside Rising Star: The Making of Barack Obama, the new 1,460-page biography written by Pulitzer Prize winning historian David Garrow that focuses on Obama’s early years.

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/10363/jihad-in-denmark

In 2015, Omar El-Hussein listened to the imam Hajj Saeed, at the Hizb-ut-Tahrir- linked Al-Faruq-mosque in Copenhagen, decry interfaith dialogue as a “malignant” idea and explain that the right way, according to Mohammed, is to wage war on the Jews. The next day, El-Hussein went out and murdered Dan Uzan, the volunteer Jewish guard of the Jewish community, as he was standing in front of the Copenhagen synagogue. El-Hussein had also just murdered Finn Nørgaard, a film director, outside a meeting about freedom of speech.

Two years later, nothing has changed. A visiting imam from Lebanon at the Al-Faruq mosque, Mundhir Abdallah, is preaching to murder Jews:

“[Soon there will be] a Caliphate, which will instate the shari’a of Allah and revive the Sunna of His Prophet, which will wage Jihad for the sake of Allah, which will unite the Islamic nation after it disintegrated, and which will liberate the Al-Aqsa Mosque from the filth of the Zionists, so that the words of the Prophet Muhammad will be fulfilled: ‘Judgement Day will not come until the Muslims fight the Jews and kill them. The Jews will hide behind the rocks and the trees, but the rocks and the trees will say: ‘Oh Muslim, oh servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him.’ …”

The “words of the Prophet” are from a well-known hadith, number 6985.

Far from hiding this incitement, the mosque posted the sermon, delivered on March 31, on the YouTube page of Al-Faruq Mosque on May 7. The invaluable research organization, MEMRI, translated it.

  18. Indonesia: Free Speech vs. Treason

In the two decades since the fall of Indonesian President Suharto’s 32-year reign in 1998, the use of the accusation of “treason” as a governmental tool to quash political opposition gradually reemerged in the world’s largest Muslim-majority country.

Today, however, those trying to overthrow the leadership are Islamists intent on unraveling the fabric of a pluralistic society.

This situation has led to the debate over freedom of speech and the separation of church and state — or, here, mosque and state.

Four recent rallies in the capital city of Jakarta illustrate the nature of what has become a full-blown controversy. In each case, protesters gathered outside mosques after Friday prayers for what they claim are “spontaneous” demonstrations made necessary by their clerics’ lack of financial resources to plan and stage such events. But evidence collected by Indonesian authorities indicates otherwise.

The first such protest took place on October 14, 2016. Its purpose was to demand that criminal proceedings be launched against Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama — familiarly known as Ahok — for “blasphemy.”

Ahok, a Christian of Chinese descent, was appointed to his position in 2014, when Joko Widodo became president of Indonesia. Hardline Muslim groups argued that a Christian should not be allowed to govern a Muslim-majority city. To back up their claim, they cited the Quran.

Their fury grew even greater when Ahok was running for reelection: he asked fishermen in Pulau Seribu not to be “deceived” by politicians using the Quranic verse, al-Maidah 51 (“…do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies”), to dissuade them from supporting him.

  19. North Korea to U.S. Congress: Don’t Impose Sanctions
    Posted On 12 May 2017

North Korea must be worried about how the newest round of U.S. sanctions will hit them, because they took the unusual step this week of writing directly to the House of Representatives to protest the stiffening punishment. While there’s nothing special about Pyongyang complaining (violently) about the actions of the United States, it is extraordinarily rare for their parliament to address American lawmakers directly. It could be a sign that the country fears losing China’s protections and thus having to face the full brunt of the economic limitations imposed by the rest of the world.

In the letter, which was published by North Korean state media, the regime called the sanctions “the most heinous act against humanity that not only infringes upon the sacred sovereignty of the DPRK, but also arbitrarily violates universal principles of sovereign equality and non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries which run through the United Nations Charter.”

“The U.S. House of Representatives should think twice,” the regime continued. “As (the House) enacts more and more of these reckless hostile laws, the DPRK’s efforts to strengthen nuclear deterrents will gather greater pace, beyond anyone’s imagination.”

    • Is this good news or bad news? Are the asking us not to impose sanctions because they are afraid or are the sending us a warning? People are reading this letter from a European standpoint but could this be a subtle warning from a Korean viewpoint?

  20. Why Only Trump Can Win in North Korea
It’s time to think outside the box.

America is facing the same old bad choices in North Korea.

Either we apply multilateral sanctions hoping that Kim Jong-un, unlike his dad, Saddam Hussein and the Supreme Leader of Iran, will be suitably impressed by having to smuggle his iPhones through three other countries. Or we build a multilateral coalition to take out its military with minimal civilian casualties and then spend the next decade reconstructing and policing it into a proper member of the United Nations.

Is anyone surprised that after Iraq and Afghanistan, Americans have little appetite for either alternative?

How is it possible that we beat Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan in less time than it’s taking us to figure out that we can’t even trust the clods of dirt in Afghanistan? Let alone reach a peace deal with them.

But WW2 was a war. It may have been the last war in which we leveraged all the firepower at our disposal to smash an enemy. We don’t fight wars anymore. Instead we’re the world’s policeman.

The military and the police have very different functions. The military destroys a threat. The police keep order. What we’ve been trying and failing to do in Afghanistan is keep order. It’s what we want to do in North Korea. Get that obnoxious kid next door to stop testing nukes every time he has a bad day.

    • I pray that President Trump will take this advice, we need to return sanity to the world by destroying our enemies instead of sending our military out to get killed trying to be policemen. You have no idea how much I hope that we will order 24/7 bombing of Kims artillery along the border, his military bases and his missile and nuclear test facilities. If we can keep this up for abut a month NORK will not have a working military and the people in NORK can decide what they want to do without KIm forcing them to be slaves.

  21. North Korea’s Missile Test Puts Region On Edge
Nuclear threat reaching point of no return.

North Korea test fired yet another missile on Sunday. This time the test did not end in a fiasco. The missile was fired somewhere between 430 to 500 hundred miles, staying aloft for about 30 minutes at an altitude exceeding 1,240 miles, before landing in the Sea of Japan 60 miles south of Russia’s Vladivostok region. It exceeded in distance and altitude an intermediate-range missile that North Korea successfully tested last February. While reportedly not an intercontinental missile, North Korea is demonstrating with this successful test, according to at least one expert, a missile with a range as far as 3700 miles, putting Hawaii potentially at risk. The North Korean regime’s missile program is firing on all cylinders, including the use of mobile land-based and submarine launch platforms. It is only a matter of time before North Korea also conducts another, more powerful nuclear test in its relentless march towards achieving a strategic nuclear deterrence that would provide it with the leverage to extort its neighbors and threaten the U.S. mainland at will.

The White House issued a statement noting the proximity to Russia of the landing of its latest tested missile, and reiterating the U.S.’s firm commitment to protect its interests and those of its allies against North Korea’s provocations: “With the missile impacting so close to Russian soil – in fact, closer to Russia than to Japan – the President cannot imagine that Russia is pleased. North Korea has been a flagrant menace for far too long. South Korea and Japan have been watching this situation closely with us. The United States maintains our ironclad commitment to stand with our allies in the face of the serious threat posed by North Korea. Let this latest provocation serve as a call for all nations to implement far stronger sanctions against North Korea.”

  22. We Must Help the Media by Taking Away All Its Jobs
    May 15, 2017
    Daniel Greenfield

Now, in the Washington Post, “Trump’s promise to bring back coal jobs is worse than a con.”

Apparently, “Market forces are sending coal the way of asbestos,” claims the billionaire writer, who knows less about coal country than he does about soft drinks.

“The fact is, putting coal miners back to work is no more possible from a business standpoint than putting telegraph operators back to work taking Morse code or putting Eastman Kodak employees back to work manufacturing film rolls,” declares the Post editorial by Michael Bloomberg.

“Politicians who ignore these market realities and make promises to coal communities they can’t keep are engaged in something worse than a con. They are telling those communities, in effect: The best hope they have, and that their children have, is to be trapped in a dying industry that will poison them. I don’t believe that’s true. We can save lives by ending coal production — just as we did with asbestos production — while also helping communities make the transition to 21st-century jobs.”

As noble as Bloomberg’s call to transition men in coal country from working jobs to getting unemployment. Or perhaps laboring in an Amazon warehouse until they die of a heart attack from trying to move 20 Blu Ray sets of Man in the High Castle within 15 minutes to environmental consultant parasites all the way from Seattle to Miami in under 3 minutes. (It’s one of those modern 21st century jobs, don’t you know.)

  23. The Real Story Behind the Big Cyberattack
    May 15, 2017
    Daniel Greenfield

The actual attacks are only collateral damage in the larger conflict.

What is going on is a fairly sophisticated attack, not so much against computers as organizations and countries. The Ransomware attack that’s making the news was made possible by hacking tools looted from what is likely the NSA.

That may or may not be the case.

The ransomware attacks are deliberate collateral damage created when a supposed group of hackers calling themselves the Shadow Brokers released them online. The intent was for them to cause as much damage as possible and for the United States to take the blame.

It was the latest move in a game of cyberwarfare that encompasses Russian and American cyberwarfare assets. Russia’s Kaspersky Labs had detected Stuxnet, which was aimed at the nuclear program of Russia’s Iranian allies. The supposed hacking tools are attributed to the same origin source as Stuxnet. But those doing the attributing tend to be Russian assets.

    That’s also true here.

The Shadow Brokers, like Guccifer 2.0, are allegedly a government organization posing as hackers. Think of Kaspersky as wearing the white hats and the Shadow Brokers wearing the black hats. But the hats are just an outfit.

The goal was to disperse the tools online as widely as possible, damaging US intelligence both by exposing cyberwarfare tools and distributing them in ways likely to be damaging so that the targets will blame the United States. As Microsoft is already doing.

On one level, there are two sets of hackers representing rival governments counting coup. The Russians let their boys have more fun in public. While the NSA depends on secrecy. But the Russians have become quite adept at disguising their attacks under the false flag of civil liberties. This is something the KGB picked up back when it was using leftist fellow travelers in the West. The politics have become more complicated and Americans still keep falling for it.

On another level, Russia is trying to damage American cyberwarfare capabilities using both direct cyberwarfare and indirect political attacks. It’s tethered the two together quite effectively. And the real lesson of the past years is that while we have developed some offensive capabilities, our defensive capabilities are badly lacking.

  24. False Claims To US Citizenship
    Far from a “victimless crime.”
    May 15, 2017
    Michael Cutler

    Virtually all criminals lie.

Lying is a common tactic used by criminals to conceal their identities, their backgrounds and their crimes. They lie to cover their tracks, to evade detection and to escape from the reach of the “long arm of the law.”

This is why suspects who are taken into custody are fingerprinted and photographed, to attempt to make certain that the name the suspect provides is truly his/her name. Often criminals use multiple false identities whether by committing identity theft or fabricating altogether fictitious identities.

In point of fact, the 9/11 Commission found that in the aggregate, the 19 hijackers who participated in the terror attacks of September 11, 2001, used more than 300 false identities or variations of false identities to conceal their identities and their movements as they went about their deadly preparations.

The 9/11 Commission also identified other terrorists who had entered the United States in the decade leading up to the attacks of 9/11 and found that the majority of all of these terrorists engaged in multiple forms of immigration fraud. This was the starting point for my recent article, Immigration Fraud: Lies That Kill.

The act of lying is, itself, a crime when it is done in furtherance of other criminal activities. A section of federal law, 18 U.S. Code § 1001, addresses this crime. Here is how this statute begins:

Except as otherwise provided in this section, whoever, in any matter within the jurisdiction of the executive, legislative, or judicial branch of the Government of the United States, knowingly and willfully—

    (1) falsifies, conceals, or covers up by any trick, scheme, or device a material fact;

    (2) makes any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or representation; or

    (3) makes or uses any false writing or document knowing the same to contain any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or entry;
shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 5 years or, if the offense involves international or domestic terrorism (as defined in section 2331), imprisoned not more than 8 years, or both. If the matter relates to an offense under chapter 109A, 109B, 110, or 117, or section 1591, then the term of imprisonment imposed under this section shall be not more than 8 years.

  26. When French are talking about Macron, three Muslim parties have nominated their candidates for the parliamentary elections “we want secularism that respects faith”
    by Alexandra Rybinska
The French parliamentary elections are set to take place on June 11 and 18th. When French media are busy speculating whom new president Emanuel Macron has entered or will enter on the electoral list of his party “en Marche!”, three Muslim parties have submitted their own candidates for members of parliament – known as députés. Inspired by the sucess of Alliance of Muslim Democrats (UDMF) in the 2015 regional elections ((in some municipalities the party’s candidates have won as much as sixteen percent of the votes) they want to have seats in the parliament. Two of the muslims parties are brand new, they were set up in 2015 and 2016.
French Muslims argue that “they no longer want to stay in the shadows, but to fight for their rightfull place on the French political scene.” And their voice is increasigly more and more audible. Although there are three of the parties, there is little difference between their programs. Protection of “Islamic ethics”, halal food, defense of cultural diversity, of social justice, of their right to vote in local elctions and the abolition of the ban on wearing hijab and burka in the public places. That’s what they want to fight for.
The name of the first party – Equality and Justice (PEJ) – not incidentaly refers to Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s Justice and Development Party (AKP). PEJ was founded in January of 2015, in Strasbourg, by members of Turkish diaspora, supported by educational association Cojep. Since 2002, Cojep was financed , at least partially, by Ankara .
Chair of PEj, Sakir Colak denies his party has anything to do with the Turkish AKP.
As Colak told the media, “PEJ is a secular group that defends Muslim’s traditional and family values and fights against Islamophobia.” Most party activists, however, also operate in Cojep and defend the position of the Turkish government, whether on the Kurdish issue or on the Armenian genocide.
Some of the party members already sit on Alsatian municipalities and regional councils. In recent years they have been elected from the party- lists of Socialist Party, the Greens and the center-right parties. And then they crossed to PEJ. Today they demand the entry of Turkey and Bosnia into the EU and halal meals in schools. PEJ also wants to reverse the legalization of homosexual marriages and they want to “the abolish gender education in schools”. Under abolition of gender education they also want to abolish any mention of gender equality. In the parliamentary elections, the party will field 68 candidates, mainly in eastern France, in the department of Bas-Rhin.
Next Muslim party which will be fighting for votes in this year’s parliamentary election is French and Muslims (Francais et Musulmans). The party has been founded in March 26, 2016 by Nizarra Bouchard, councilor of Brie-Comte-Rober, in the region of Seine et Marne, near Paris. The 35 year old former member of Centrist Union of Democrats and Independents (UDI) wants to fight Muslim discrimination and “harmful idea of clash of civilisations. Francais et Musulmans will nominate candidates in six districs, among others in the district of Saint Denis near Paris, La Courneuve, Villeneuve-Saint-Georges and Le Blanc Mesnil.
The oldest Muslim party, founded in 2012, Alliance of Muslim Democrats (UDMF) also nominated its own candidate in this year’s presidential election. However, Kamel Messaoudi failed to collect the required 500 signatures of deputies, councilors, mayors and senators. Messaoudi, therefore, will try to become a member of parliament, representing district of Mayotte (French overseas territory).
The Democratic Muslim Alliance avoids radical proposals. Founded in the suburbs of Paris, it has about 900 members and more than 8,000 supporters…..and growing. Since the assassination of Charlie Hebdo in 2015, the number of party members who see themselves as a Muslim answer to Christian parties has grown by several hundred.
“We are a political party like any other. We respect democracy. We do not want to islamize France. We see ourselves as Muslim democrats” the Moroccan-born founder Nagid Azergui persuades in the media. “Islam has become a political topic in a negative sense. We want to fight it. We want secularism that respects faith. France suffers from a crisis of values. And Islam is the second religion of France, so it is our duty to restore these values,” he explains.
The main UDMF goals are: lifting the ban on hijab & burka in public space, promoting halal ritual slaughter and spreading Islamic banking. There is no mention of sharia, at least for now, because it would be too frightening for the French. The party counts as many women as men, and no one in burka, covered head is a rarity. Men wear short-cut beards. “Normality” and “democracy” are the words that Azergui repeats like mantra.
But not all are convinced by UDMF’s democratic discours “this party has nothing to do with democrats or democracy. They want to introduce a number of principles from the Quran to the public sphere. At the moment the situation in France is very tense. People are afraid of the terrorist attack. If there is an open conflict between islam and the Republic, France, as we know it, will cease to exists” warns Jean-Frédéric Poisson, leader of the Christian Democratic Party (PCD). According to him, French Muslims should engage in traditional parties. “Otherwise there will be a social split,” he says.
Ruling socialists, faithful to their preached tolerance, see no danger. “Everyone has the right to form a political party. And defend the wearing burka, hijab or a ritual slaughter. As long as it is within the limits democratic principles.. In general, everyone has the right to do what they want, “said Socialist Party MP Malek Boutih.
Similar views, as is it is well known, are represented by new president Emmanuel Macron, who declared at one of the rallies during his campaign that “there is no such thing as a distinct French culture”. It is hoped that this won’t backfire on him.

Computers in more than 150 countries have been hit by what experts are calling an unprecedented mass cyberattack using ransomware.

Experts were scrambling to determine who was behind the attack, which exploited a security flaw in older versions of Microsoft’s Windows operating software.

Here is what we know so far about the cyber ransom attacks:

    What happened?

Computers around the globe were hacked beginning on Friday using a security flaw in Microsoft’s Windows XP operating system, an older version that was no longer given mainstream tech support by the US giant.

The so-called WannaCry ransomware locks access to user files and demands money—in the form of the virtual currency Bitcoin—in order to decrypt them.

    How many countries were affected?

Europol chief Rob Wainwright said more than 200,000 victims had been hit in more than 150 countries.

It is the largest ransomware attack observed in history.

High-profile victims include hospitals in Britain, the Spanish telecoms giant Telefonica, French carmaker Renault, US package delivery company FedEx, Russia’s interior ministry and the German rail operator Deutsche Bahn.

How did the attack spread worldwide?

Experts said the ransomware programme appears to support dozens of languages, showing that the hackers wanted to corrupt networks worldwide.

The virus spread quickly because the culprits used a digital code believed to have been developed by the US National Security Agency—and subsequently leaked as part of a document dump, according to researchers at the Moscow-based computer security firm Kaspersky Lab.

The attack is unique, according to Wainwright, because it combines ransomware with a worm function, meaning once one machine is infected, the entire internal network is scanned and other vulnerable machines are infected.

The US security firm Symantec said the attack appeared to be indiscriminate.

    Who was behind the attack?

So far, the culprits are unknown, as is the motivation. Security agencies in affected countries were racing to find out.

Experts think it unlikely to have been one person, with criminally minded cyber crime syndicates nowadays going underground and using ever more sophisticated encryption to hide their activities.

How can people protect their computers?

Microsoft took the unusual step of reissuing security patches first made available in March for Windows XP and other older versions of its operating system.

Kaspersky said it was seeking to develop a decryption tool “as soon as possible”.

Europol provides free decryption downloads for most ransomware already detected, though not yet for this particular attack.

    How much ransom was asked?

Victims were asked for payment of $300 (275 euros) in the virtual currency Bitcoin.

Payment is demanded within three days or the price is doubled, and if none is received within seven days, the files will be deleted, according to the screen message.

Given the attack’s widespread nature, even such a small sum would stack up quickly, though few victims seem to be paying up so far.

Experts advise people not to pay, as it would only encourage the attackers, there is no guarantee that they will unblock files, and may result in them gaining access to victims’ bank details.

    • Is it coincidence that this happened during the crisis with NORK? Danial Greenfield ( http://www.frontpagemag.com/point/266711/real-story-behind-big-cyberattack-daniel-greenfield ) in a Frontpagemag article (posted above) is saying that he and his contacts think that either Russia or China is behind this attack. This is part of the war of shadows that is WWIII, it will be a long time before we learn who is really behind this and other cyber attacks. Was it a state actor (Russia, China, NORK, or possibly one of the Islamic jihad groups?) or was it one or more criminals who see a chance to make a lot of money?

      • My money is on a Chinese or NORK syndicate. The fact that twelve different languages were used points to some high level planning. From your Front Page link:

It was the latest move in a game of cyberwarfare that encompasses Russian and American cyberwarfare assets. Russia’s Kaspersky Labs had detected Stuxnet, which was aimed at the nuclear program of Russia’s Iranian allies. The supposed hacking tools are attributed to the same origin source as Stuxnet. But those doing the attributing tend to be Russian assets.

As the last sentence notes, such an attribution is dubious, at best. America and Israel put together Stuxnet. I find it highly unlikely that they would team up to cause this sort of international havoc.

Here’s a great read about Stuxnet. However, not even this article reveals how the virus would slow down the centrifuges and, after returning them to speed, then go dormant for weeks. After another few weeks, the virus would speed up (over-rev) the centrifuges for a similar period and, again, go dormant for weeks after returning them to their regular speed.

This latency, in combination with the faked operator’s console readouts, made it nearly impossible for Stuxnet to be caught in action. Operating in the 100k RPM region, bearings and rotors for gas centrifuges must be precisely balanced. That balancing is tuned to the exact final operating speed (which remains very stable). Rotation rates even slightly above or below that optimum speed accelerate bearing wear horrendously. This is what Stuxnet did and did incredibly well.

Finally, the fact that Stuxnet had to cross the “air gap” (i.e., be loaded onto computers which had no connection to the Internet), meant that there was someone on the inside to transmit the 1.5 MB (a bit smaller than an MP3 song) file.

Obviously, this sent the Iranians into a tizzy of investigations, trials, purges, and suspicions that probably persist to this day. In some way, that may be the greatest harm done. FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt).

        • We probably bribed a Russian Engineer. Or we didn’t desigh Stuxnet and Russia did to slow down the Iranian program, after all Putin can’t want Iran to have nukes anymore then we do.

        • China and NORK combined is my best bet but this is a real life Game of Thrones using a war of shadows so nothing can be dismissed. Even when we think we know who did what we have to be ready to learn we are wrong.

  29. Syria’s Saydnaya prison crematorium hid killings, says US (BBC, May 15, 2017)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-39926914#

“The Syrian government has constructed a crematorium at a military prison to dispose of the remains of thousands of murdered prisoners, the US has alleged.

The State Department has released satellite images of the facility which it said was used to hide evidence.

Rights groups say thousands of inmates have been tortured and hanged at the military prison outside of Damascus.

Syria has not responded to the latest claims but it has in the past strongly denied any abuse at the jail.

In February, Amnesty International said that mass hangings had taken place every week at the jail between 2011 and 2015.

The government at that time dismissed Amnesty’s claims as “baseless” and “devoid of truth”, pointing out that all executions in Syria followed due process.
    ‘Mass murders’

More allegations of abuse at Saydnaya resurfaced on Monday.

“Credible sources have believed that many of the bodies have been disposed in mass graves,” Acting Assistant Secretary for Near Eastern Affairs Stuart Jones told reporters.

“We now believe that the Syrian regime has installed a crematorium in the Saydnaya prison complex which could dispose of detainees’ remains with little evidence,” he said.

Evidence of the crematorium hiding or disguising mass murders at the prison will be presented to the international community, Mr Jones said.

He said that newly de-classified documentation “underscore the depths to which the Syrian regime has gone, with the continuing support of its allies, Russia and Iran”…”

“Plans that would see European border agents conduct patrols in Libya to stop the flow of migrants have been welcomed by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs.

Federica Mogherini said strengthening the north African country’s border management was “only a good idea”, although she said there was already an EU mission, lead by Italy, that specifically addressed the issue.

The Italian Commissioner also stated her support for ”the appeal by Germany and Italy for work to be stepped up on the southern border of Libya” to control the movement of African migrants across the desert…”

  32. Egyptian scholar sparks backlash over ‘despicable’ Saladin criticism (alaraby, May 15, 2017)
    https://www.alaraby.co.uk/english/blog/2017/5/15/egyptian-scholar-sparks-backlash-over-despicable-saladin-criticism

“Egyptian scholar Youssef Ziedan has stirred controversy by calling famed 12th century Muslim leader Saladin “one of the most despicable figures in human history”.

The philosophy and Arabic expert made the comment on a late night talk show while discussing Egyptian cinema and Islamic history.

Zeidan said that the genre contained many “historical fallacies” and that positive depictions of Saladin were “intentionally political”.

Saladin (or Salah al-Din), is renowned as one of the most famous Muslim military leaders of the Middle Ages, most notably for his capture of Jerusalem from the Crusaders in 1187.

Ziedan said that one particular inerpretation of Saladin in an Egyptian film did not show his “brutality against the Fatimids”, which included the burning down of “one of the most important libraries in the world back then, located in Cairo”.

“Salahuddin is one of the most despicable figures in human history,” Zeidan told interviewer Amr Adeeb. “He committed crimes against the Fatimids.”

According to medieval records, Saladin worked under the Fatimids and was later able to climb his way up to the position of vizier and later sultan.

The circumstances under which this occurred has led some experts to speculate on how much of this was down to circumstance or Saladin’s own scheming.

Ziedan’s remarks sparked anger among Egyptian scholars, who questioned his motives.

“Why do we attack our symbolic figures and the values that we possess?,” said Zubeida Attallah, a professor of modern history at Egypt’s Ain Shams University.

This is not the first time that Ziedan, a bestselling author, has caused controversy in Egypt with his views.

Ziedan has landed in hot water after discussing the situation between Palestine and Israel, and charged with blasphemy after the publication of Azazel.”

A blood-soaked man entered an Oregon grocery store holding a knife in one hand and what looked like a human head in the other, stabbed a worker and was then subdued, according to reports.

A woman was later found dead in a case that authorities said was connected to the stabbing at the store, OregonLive.com reported.

Police responded to a 911 call from the Harvest Market Thriftway in Estacada at 2:14 p.m. Sunday after the man walked in and stabbed an employee.

Other employees tackled the suspect and held him down until cops arrived, officials said. The condition of the victim, who was flown to a hospital, was not known.

The suspect was taken to a hospital after being brought into custody, according to Sandy police and the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.

At 2:35 p.m., a 911 caller reported finding the body of a woman inside a home on Elwood Road in Colton, about 10 miles from the store, kgw.com reported.

Investigators said the woman had died at the home and that the attacker at the grocery store is suspected in her killing.

The names of the suspect and the victims have not been released.

    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/azerbaijan-hits-armenian-missile-system-nagorno-karabakh-47422964

“Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry says it has destroyed an Armenian air defense missile system in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Nagorno-Karabakh is officially part of Azerbaijan, but since a separatist war ended in 1994 it has been under the control of forces that claim to be local ethnic Armenians but that Azerbaijan claims include regular Armenian military. Efforts to negotiate a settlement have failed, and frequent clashes have continued.

Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry said its forces on Monday destroyed an Osa air defense system along with its crew, adding that its deployment near the line of control was a “provocation” and a threat to Azerbaijani aircraft.

The Nagorno-Karabakh separatist authorities confirmed that an Azerbaijani attack damaged its equipment, but said there were no casualties. It warned in a statement that the Azerbaijani “provocation won’t be left unanswered.””

  38. EXCLUSIVE: Former Egyptian Terrorism Official Exposes the Muslim Brotherhood’s Terror Networks (Part 1)

On my recent trip to Egypt, I met with Col. Khaled Okasha (ret), one of Egypt’s top former counter-terrorism officials, to discuss the developing security situation and to address a question that has received a lot of international media attention:

Is the Muslim Brotherhood directly engaged in terrorism?

Okasha, the director of the National Center for Security Studies, has literally written the books on the development of militant networks in Egypt. He graciously met with me for five hours upon my arrival in Cairo to discuss these issues.

He later sat down for a three-hour, on-the-record interview on the Muslim Brotherhood’s terror networks, the transcript of which is presented below.

“Osama Heikal, the head of parliament’s media, culture and antiquities committee, said on Monday that parliament opposes any kind of reconciliation with the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group at the moment.

“As the Muslim Brotherhood is a terrorist organisation, and as it still insists on launching organised violent attacks against the state, and as it has so far refused to take any step towards reforming its religious agenda, it is completely rejected that parliament votes in favour of reaching reconciliation with this group,” Heikal told journalists at a press conference.

Heikal argued that although Egypt’s 2014 constitution states in Article 241 that a transitional justice law be issued as soon as possible to help the country reach a kind of “national reconciliation,” this law can’t be passed at the moment because it might lead to “reconciliation with the Brotherhood.”

“Let all know that Egyptian society is against any kind of reconciliation with the Muslim Brotherhood and so parliament can’t accept such reconciliation at the moment,” said Heikal.

Heikal said press conferences will be held on a regular basis to “stand up” to attacks against parliament…”

The spokesman of the Egyptian army, Tamer El-Refai, also announced in a report released on Monday that border guards had seized 1,152 kilograms of narcotics, 511,000 pills of unspecified illegal substances, in addition to large amounts of smuggled weapons of various types and ammunition.

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi approved in November 2016 a law aimed at curbing irregular immigration and cracking down on human smuggling amid a hike in the number of migrants, many from sub-Saharan Africa, departing from the country to Europe.”

  41. Afghan police chief beat deported asylum seekers on Danish plane: report (thelocal, May 15, 2017)
    https://www.thelocal.dk/20170515/afghan-police-chief-beat-deported-asylum-seekers-on-danish-plane-report

“An Afghan police officer “strongly” hit two deported asylum seekers in the head and body on board a flight to Afghanistan chartered by the Danish National Police, reports newspaper Politiken.
Danish police officers were on board the flight on which the incident occurred.

The confidential report on the most recent Danish deportation to Afghanistan on 28th of February this year includes statement from 11 Danish police officials, writes Politiken.

The two men were beaten by the head of Afghan border police on board the aircraft when they refused to disembark after landing in Kabul, says the report.

Danish officers were present during the beating.

A total of 50 Danish officers took part in the deportation of a total of 16 rejected Afghan asylum seekers, which was subject to protests by activists in Denmark.

After landing, 11 of the 16 left the aircraft and a family of three were still sitting in their seats near the front when the two men refused to leave their places, according to the report.

“In this connection, he [the Afghan police officer] made use of force that would not have been deemed justifiable had Danish police acted similarly in the course of their duties in Denmark,” concludes the report.

A Danish police officer who was sitting behind one of the two men said that “four to six powerful blows on the head” were given to him.

Experts told Politiken that the incident is a clear breach of European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) provisions on torture and degrading treatment.

“There is no professional justification for police to use that kind of force,” said Peter Vedel Kessing of the Danish Institute for Human Rights….”

Let’s do some back-of-the-envelope math here … 50 Danish officers for a mere 16 rejected Afghans. That’s a ratio of over a three-to-one for guards versus prisoners. Maybe the Danish commander knows something that most people don’t.

“The Italian High Casssation Court on Monday ruled against a Sikh Indian migrant who wanted to carry in public a knife that his religion considers sacred, even though it is against Italian law. The Court said migrants who choose to live in the Western world have an obligation to conform to the values of the society they’ve chosen to settle in, even if its values differ from their own. “An attachment to one’s own values, even if they are lawful in the country of origin, is intolerable when it causes violating the laws of the host country,” the Court said.

“The multiethnic society is a necessity, but it can’t lead to the formation of conflicting cultural groups of islands according to the ethnicities they’re made up of, precluding the unity of the cultural and judicial fabric of our country, which identifies public safety as an asset to defend and as such bans carrying weapons and objects aimed at injury,” the Court said.”

    • Smart move. Given how fond Muslims (those other turban-wearing chaps) are of their knives, it might be best to generally limit any public displays of pointy objects until all of these arse-lifters can be winnowed out of the overall landscape.

The dictionary includes detailed information on tens of organizations such as the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), the outlawed Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C), the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) and its armed wing, the People’s Protection Units (YPG).

The dictionary refers to terms such as “agent provocateur,” “brainwashing,” “fifth column activity,” “crypto,” and “national alarm system.” It also includes information on Turkey’s anti-government Gezi Park protests in summer 2013, the “democratic autonomy” term used by Kurdish nationalist groups, “terrorism exploiting religion,” and Deniz Gezmi?, a left-wing student leader executed in 1972 for attempting to overthrow the constitutional order.

The dictionary devotes most space to the PKK and FETÖ, referring to the followers of U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen, an ally-turned-nemesis of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an.

On the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), the dictionary states: “DAE? [another name for ISIL] has economic power, uses social media in an effective way, and has self-declared a caliphate state, which makes it easy for the organization to recruit members.”

On the PKK’s headquarters in the Qandil Mountains of northern Iraq, the dictionary said it was chosen by the group as a base after 1997 due to its suitable topography.”

“Russia considers it right to maintain working contacts with Kurdish groups in Syria despite Turkey’s objections, as they are “fighting against terrorists,” Russian President Vladimir Putin said on May 15.

“As the Kurdish factor is a real factor in the situation in Syria and Kurdish armed formations are taking part in combat operations against ISIL and are among the most combat efficient units, we consider it right to maintain working contacts with them, even at least for avoiding possible collisions and situations that could create threats to our servicemen,” the Russian leader said in Beijing.

When asked whether Russia supplies the Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) with arms, Putin said that Moscow, “unlike the U.S. doesn’t do that.”…”
