A very well known dog park on the outskirts of my city, a sand pit, actually, saw last week an interesting confrontation. My sister walking her young, energetic, Viszla encounters two hijabed women. How they wandered so far off-the-beaten path took substantial effort. In fact they had to drive there first, then walk some distance. Regardless, the playful Viszla starts circling the two in very wide, bounding circles. (For those unfamiliar, a Viszla is not a German shepherd–not scary in the least) The women freeze, terrified. My sister knows her dog is made curious by the hijabs. She shouts at them to keep walking, nothing will happen, but it is my sister and her dog who must move on.
After hearing this story at Sunday dinner I say, “Maybe they were trying to provoke an incident so they could file a human rights complaint to shut down the park to dogs.”
“That’s a bit of a stretch,” she replies, not familiar with the education provided by the counter jihad.
And I’m left thinking hmm, maybe the imam just picked the wrong women for this little incursion into yet another western tradition. The next set of hijabs will be tougher and the incident uglier. The event will go down as a human rights violation and ALL off-lead dog parks will end.
After all, what the hell were they doing there? Picking daisies? The place is known only as a free-for-all dog park.

In the coming two weeks of the French campaign, Marine Le Pen’s challenge is to break through a wall of voter antipathy that she inherited from her father. Emmanuel Macron’s task is to persuade the French he has the gravitas and experience to be president.
The far-right Le Pen and centrist Macron both took just under a quarter of the vote in a contest with 11 candidates. Now they must convince the rest of the population that they have what it takes to lead the country after the May 7 runoff.
The next round will see two radically different visions. Macron embraces globalization and European integration, Le Pen channels the forces of discontent that triggered Brexit and brought Donald Trump to power. U.S. carrier group heads for Korean waters, China calls for restraint
BEIJING/SEOUL (Reuters) – Chinese President Xi Jinping called for all sides to exercise restraint on Monday in a telephone call about North Korea with U.S. President Donald Trump, as Japan conducted exercises with a U.S. aircraft carrier strike group headed for Korean waters.
Trump sent the carrier group for exercises in waters off the Korean peninsula as a warning, amid growing fears North Korea could conduct another nuclear test in defiance of United Nations sanctions.
Angered by the approach of the USS Carl Vinson carrier group, a defiant North Korea said on Monday the deployment was “an extremely dangerous act by those who plan a nuclear war to invade”.
“The United States should not run amok and should consider carefully any catastrophic consequence from its foolish military provocative act,” Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of the North’s ruling Workers’ Party, said in a commentary on Monday.
“What’s only laid for aggressors is dead bodies,” the newspaper said.

The sense of relief is palpable in the mainstream media. Emmanuel Macron, the “center-left” latecomer in the French election, seems to be finishing in the pole position as the first round draws to a close. National Front’s Marine Le Pen is finishing second. A strong second, to be sure — the difference is currently about 600,000 votes — but second, nevertheless.
Polls have suggested that Macron would defeat Le Pen in a runoff. And now that’s the head-to-head match the French voters will face in round two, on 7 May.
Center-right Republican candidate Francois Fillon — the Jeb! of this scenario — clocks in with a third-place finish, and is thus out of the runoff. So is Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the Bernie Sanders radical in the group. In spite of a late surge in the polling, he’s finishing in fourth place, just behind Fillon.
The oddity, as noted by numerous media outlets, is that the French Socialist Party — which successfully put up Francois Hollande in 2012 — is nowhere to be seen, its candidate (Benoît Hamon) fading in fifth place more than 4 million votes behind Mélenchon. The Telegraph points out that between them, France’s two main parties for the last several decades — the center-right Republicans and the Socialists — have polled only 27% of the vote.

Security is ramped up across France as people hit the polls in a presidential election centered on how the country should combat terror.
Some 50,000 police and military personnel have been deployed across France during the run-up to Sunday’s election. Groups of armed police are seen patrolling the streets, walking through the metro trains, and simply hanging out inside stores and restaurants in Paris. The situation is so tense, people are not even allowed to enter a McDonald’s restaurant on Champs-Elysees — the famous street where one officer lost his life in a terror attack Thursday — without having their bags searched for suspicious items.
“It’s been some tough years,” Paris resident Igor told The Daily Caller News Foundation. “There’s a lot of tension in society. You see it in the relation between communities, how the media talks about some communities in the country. There’s a lot of Islamophobia.”
The massive police presence may have saved the city from yet another tragedy Saturday when a knife-wielding man caused panic at the Gare du Nord train station before getting arrested.
Police downplayed the situation, but a video shows several officers holding the suspect at gun point.

Iranian resistance group confirms that Iran’s nuclear weapons program is ongoing

An Iranian resistance group known as the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) revealed on Friday that the rogue regime has not stopped its nuclear weapons program despite the P5+1 nuclear deal negotiated by former Secretary of State John Kerry and former President Barack Obama.
The SPND is the unit charged with designing and creating a nuclear weapon. It is broken down into seven subdivisions, each of which is responsible for its own portion of nuclear weapons research.

Iranian Opposition Reveals Alleged Secret Nuke Activity

The National Council of Resistance in Iran, a group that wants to replace the current regime with a secular-democracy, publicly released detailed information about alleged covert nuclear activities in Iran. The accusation immediately followed the Trump Administration’s determination that Iran is complying with the nuclear deal.
NCRI says that the newly-identified site is in the Parchin military base, the place that Iran has been most resistant to granting outside access to. It is known that Iran working on the high explosives necessary for a nuclear weapon’s “trigger” at Parchin. NCRI says that the effort was simply moved from one location within Parchin to another because the regime believes there is an “extremely low” chance of the IAEA inspectors entering the area.
The new location is vaguely referred to as a “Research Academy” by regime personnel, NCRI claims. It is located at the 500-acre “Plan 6” part of the Parchin site. Colorado newspaper publishes letter advocating violence against fracking sites

A newspaper in Colorado has yet to retract a letter to the editor it published suggesting state residents would be “intelligent” to act violently against oil pipelines in their communities.
The Boulder Daily Camera posted a letter to the editor April 19 that citizens have a moral obligation to destroy pipelines and eliminate oil jobs if they violate the sensibilities of Colorado residents. Editors altered the piece after publication but left the writer’s basic thesis in place: Violence may be the only way to prevent pipeline construction.
“If the oil and gas industry puts fracking wells in our neighborhoods, threatening our lives and our children’s lives, then don’t we have a moral responsibility to blow up wells and eliminate fracking and workers?” Andrew O’Connor wrote in a letter to the paper’s editors.
The letter was edited the following day to read “Don’t we have a moral responsibility to take action to dissuade frackers from operating here?” The Camera’s editors did not include an apology for its edits.
O’Connor’s piece is worthwhile, the editors noted, because it brings up philosophical ideas that are important to consider when discussing fracking.
“This letter was edited to delete references that may have been construed to expressly advocate violence or property destruction,” the paper’s editorial board wrote. “The Camera does not condone or endorse violence or property destruction of any kind.”

The first round of the French Presidential Election took place on Sunday. The top two candidates, Emmanuel Macron (23.75% of the vote) of the centrist En Marche party and Marine le Pen (21.53%) of the nationalist Front National won first and second place respectively and will now face each other in a run-off vote.
The other nine candidates were eliminated from the race.
The Wall Street Journal called the result a “stunning rebuke of France’s mainstream political forces.” Macron has never stood for election before and was completely unknown as recently as three years ago, when he was plucked from obscurity to become economy minister. He later split with the Socialist party to form his own centrist party called “En Marche!”
Le Pen is the leader of a party widely seen as fascist that has done increasingly well in recent elections but which has never broken through to win serious power.
Traditional parties, in contrast were not able to garner enough support in a political environment desperate for change.
Both remaining candidates are campaigning heavily on economic platforms, with much of the debate surrounding unemployment. Another big issue is France’s continued membership of the European Union. Le Pen seeks to follow the UK in taking France out of the project, whereas Macron supports remaining.

China Deploys Floating Nuclear Power Plant to South China Sea

In April 2016, reports began coming in that China has plans to build floating nuclear power plants in the South China Sea. A floating nuclear power plant consists of one or more nuclear reactors, located on a platform at sea. China apparently plans to “speed up the commercial development” of the South China Sea and views the nuclear power plants as part of that plan. [1]
Final assembly of the reactor is reported to start in coastal city of Huludao, in Liaoning province, and will be built by Bohai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co Ltd, a unit of China Shipbuilding Industry Corp (CSIC).[2]
China’s 2016 nuclear plan, a component of the China’s 13th five-year plan, is evidently to complete 58 nuclear reactors by 2020 and build another 100 gigawatt-sized reactors by 2030. These would make China the largest nuclear power producer in the world. China’s floating nuclear reactor initiative seems to be a component of this nuclear plan.

Anyone with a serious interest in the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians will be familiar with the oft-cited Charter (or Covenant [mithaq]) of the terrorist group currently ruling the Gaza Strip, Hamas. The Charter (in Arabic here) was published on 18 August 1988. Its proper title is “The Charter/Covenant of the Islamic Resistance Movement ‘Hamas’ Palestine”, Hamas being an acronym for “the Islamic Resistance Movement”.
This April, the Lebanese news site al-Mayadeen leaked a draft version of a much-revised version of the 1988 Charter, due to be released “in the coming days”. The anti-Israel website Mondoweiss subsequently provided an English translation of the draft, made by someone from the Ayda refugee camp in the West Bank. So far, I have been unable to find the Arabic text of the draft online, even though it has been discussed many times in the wider Arabic media. We shall turn to it later, but it is obviously sensible to look first at the 1988 version as a basis of comparison. And even before that, we need to see how the Hamas Covenant differed from, and resembled, the PLO Covenants of 1964 and 1968.

Gay men in Russia’s Chechen Republic are being illegally detained in at least six secret prisons across the region, the Novaya Gazeta newspaper has reported.
The newspaper reported on April 1 that hundreds of men were being detained, tortured and even killed in a government-backed crackdown on the LGBT community. The claims centered on two jails in the Chechen villages of Argun and Tsotsi-Yurt.
Now Novaya Gazeta has claimed that at least four more prisons are illegally holding gay men due to their sexual orientation.
The men, who face physical beatings and electric shocks, are only released after their families offer large bribes to the police, the outlet wrote.

Top Trump administration officials will hold a rare briefing on Wednesday at the White House for the entire U.S. Senate on the situation in North Korea, senior Senate aides said on Monday.
All 100 senators have been asked to the White House for the briefing by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and General Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the aides said.
While top administration officials routinely travel to Capitol Hill to address members of Congress on foreign policy and national security matters, it is unusual for the entire 100-member Senate to go to such an event at the White House, and for those four top officials to be involved.
