Afghan woman’s ears cut off by husband

A 23-year-old Afghan woman has described to the BBC how her husband tied her up and cut off both her ears in a domestic violence attack in the northern province of Balkh.
The woman – Zarina – is now in a stable but traumatised condition in hospital.
“I haven’t committed any sin,” she said. “I don’t know why my husband did this to me.”
The woman’s husband is on the run in Kashinda district following the attack, police have told local media.
Zarina told Pajhwok news that the unprovoked attack took place after her husband suddenly woke her up.
She was married at the age of 13, and told BBC that “relations with her husband were not good”.
Zarina complained that her husband had tried to prevent her from seeing her parents, she said in another interview, with Tolo News. She said she no longer wanted to remain married to him.
“He is a very suspicious man and often accused me of talking to strange men when I went to visit my parents,” she said.
She has demanded his arrest and prosecution.
Her account is the latest in a series of high-profile domestic abuse incidents and cases of violence against women in Afghanistan.

Police are hunting a man who punched a woman twice in the face during an unprovoked attack at a Tube station.
The woman was approached at Covent Garden and struck twice by the man for no reason, causing her to topple over and smash her head, police say.
She managed to get to her feet but the man attacked her again, according to detectives.
The woman needed hospital treatment after the blows left her with a broken nose alongside a cut to her head.

Six key arguments in the brief are as follows:
–The actions taken through the executive order were authorized by an act of Congress and also were taken pursuant to the president’s exclusive power as commander in chief and over foreign policy.
–Immigration is an issue dedicated to the executive.
–National security issues are the sole province of the president, not the courts.
–The order does not discriminate by religion, just country of origin.
–It excludes foreign states from sending people to the United States for a temporary period.
–All of the countries at issue were deemed sponsors of terror by prior administrations.
The motion cites separate federal court opinion issued Friday in Massachusetts which rejected a request to suspend the executive order.
As ABC News reported earlier Saturday, the Trump administration had filed a formal notice of appeal of the temporary restraining order of the travel ban.
After a federal judge in Seattle issued a nationwide restraining order halting parts of the executive action signed by President Donald Trump that temporarily bars some immigrants and refugees from seven predominantly Muslim countries, the White House promised to appeal the ruling “at the earliest possible time.”

He appeared alongside former Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown (R-Mass.) in what was likely designed to be a debate over whether or not it was OK for President Obama to criticize President Trump’s recent immigration order, but it was Kucinich, not Brown, who criticized Obama most harshly.
While Kucinich pointed out that he disagreed with Trump’s immigration ban and argued — wrongly — that a “religious test” for accepting immigrants is unconstitutional, he was dismayed that President Obama would be the one to criticize Trump’s policies. Reports of Christian life under the Islamic State (ISIS) continued throughout November. Many of these came from the ancient Christian towns surrounding Mosul, such as Batnaya and Qaraqosh, conquered by ISIS in August, 2014, and liberated in late October, 2016.
One Christian man, Esam, from Qaraqosh, related what ISIS did after his sister’s husband refused to convert to Islam: “He was crucified and tortured in front of his wife and children, who were forced to watch. They [ISIS] told him that if he loved Jesus that much, he would die like Jesus.” The Islamic militants tortured his brother-in-law from 6 in the evening until 11: “[T]hey cut his stomach open and shot him before leaving him hanging, crucified.” Two other members of Esam’s family, a Christian couple, were abducted and separated by ISIS. To this day, the husband does not know where his wife is; he only knows that she was turned into a concubine, a sex-slave.
Karlus, a 29-year-old Christian, told how ISIS members broke into his elderly father’s home in Batnaya and began to destroy crosses and tear up a picture of Christ. When Karlus tried to stop them, he was taken and tortured: they “hung him from the ceiling of the jail he was held in, by a rope attached to his left foot. As blood poured from his foot, they beat and kicked him, rubbing salt into his wounds. He was sexually abused in prison by three women wearing niqabs [black veils]. He was told he would be shot dead,” said the report. Seven weeks later he was released.
Another handful of Christians told how they “were threatened, forced to spit on a crucifix or convert to Islam,” but they “miraculously survived more than two years under Islamic State group rule.”

It is customary for Turkish TV crews to interview young students at the start of their mid-term holidays, with the cliché closing question invariably being, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” This year’s school holiday in January was no exception. One interview, however, produced a chilling portrait of a girl, aged just 7 or 8.
“I have big goals,” she answered the interviewer. “They will get bigger and bigger. Step by step,” she said. The girl said she wanted to start by becoming a district or village head. Then a lawmaker, a minister, prime minister and finally the president of Turkey.
Up to this point, TV viewers must have watched her with amusement. Then the reporter asked her: “What would you do if you became the president?”
In a calculated, tranquil tone, the girl answered: “I would reinstate the death penalty”.

Berlin police say that migrants are more and more frequently recorded in their crime statistics to the point where they are over-represented, compared to their proportion of the overall population. The report, which was requested by libertarian Free Democratic Party (FDP) politician Marcel Luthe, contains unpublished figures from 2016 Märkische Allgemeine reports.
Police registered 9614 migrant suspects in 2016 according to the report, including asylum seekers, recognized refugees and failed asylum seekers whose status is “tolerated.” The estimated total migrant population in Berlin is around 70,000 people making 13 percent of the population criminal suspects.
The figures for German nationals is much lower at around 3 percent of the population. Even when looking at the age group most likely to be involved in crime, men aged 21 and younger, the German figure rises only to 6 percent.
Some have reacted with sharp criticism of the report, pointing out that it does not list people who have been convicted of crimes, rather just those who are under suspicion of having committed crimes.
Despite the statistics, the left-wing coalition in Berlin released a report in December saying that their main cause of concern for the safety of Berliners is right-wing extremism…”

“Correctiv, the allegedly non-partisan “fake news” censor working with Facebook in Germany is funded by groups linked to left-wing billionaire George Soros and the establishment media.
A new investigative report from anti-mass migration NGO Einprozent has revealed who is behind the new organization employed by Facebook to report and censor what they consider to be “fake news.”
According to the NGO, Correctiv is largely staffed and funded by those who were formerly establishment journalists, many of them writing for left-leaning publications. They say that the top donor to Correctiv is the Brost Foundation, set up by the former head of the publishing company FUNKE Media Group, Erich Brost. The foundation has given €925,000 to get Correctiv off the ground.
Mr. Brost is also the former employer of Collectiv’s CEO, David Schraven, who worked as a leading researcher for Funke group until 2014 and previously worked at the far-left paper Die Tageszeitung or TAZ.
The chief editor of Correctiv, Markus Grill, meanwhile has worked for both the left-wing magazine Stern, which last April associated anti-mass migration Alternative for Germany supporters with Nazis, and magazine Der Spiegel which has run a series of covers and articles directed against U.S. President Donald Trump.
€114,000 has been donated by the Dutch organization The Adessium Foundation which works on climate change and environmental issues and is openly funded by George Soro’s Open Society Foundation. Soro’s Open Society Foundation has also given €26,884 directly to Correctiv.
George Soros and the Open Society foundation have been linked to the funding of pro-migrant campaigns to promote Somali migrants in the past, and have spent money on trying to influence the elections of various European Union countries in favour of left-wing open borders parties, with the aim of destroying populism.
All the money pouring into the organization has led to comfortable salaries for the two men in charge of Correctiv. According to the report, David Schraven earns in excess of 9,000 euros a month and Markus Grill earns over 7,000 per month, salaries far larger than that commanded by average German journalists…”

An IFOP poll found that between March 2011 and November 2016, support for Marine Le Pen’s party grew faster among non-straight voters than the general population.
The survey, of 15,379 respondents, revealed that in three years Front National support rose from 9 per cent among both LGB and straight respondents to 16.5 per cent among LGB voters and 14.5 per cent among straight ones.
According to one Cevipof poll, 32.45 per cent of gay married couples voted for the Front National in the first round of regional elections in December 2015.
“People are not conflicted anymore to voice right wing opinion,” Didier Lestrade, the French-Algerian author of Why Gays Turned Right, told Buzzfeed. “It is the end of a taboo.”

The National Front now has more high-ranking gay figures than any major party in France including the Socialists, who passed a gay marriage law in 2013.
However, the party still has many socially conservative policies which opponents have attempted to frame as anti-gay. They want to repeal the gay marriage laws, and oppose same-sex adoption, for example.

For over a decade, Europe’s struggle to successfully integrate its Muslim population has been evident. But throughout the years a new and distinctly European phenomenon arose, which is as significant as it is underreported: Gangster Islam. It entails the conflation of the seemingly a-religious street culture of youths from a Muslim background on the one hand, and elements of the Islamic religion on the other.
The German publication Der Spiegel once very briefly touched on the matter, a Danish documentary highlighted Islamic extremists recruiting gang members from a Muslim background, and a Dutch terrorism expert pointed out how Syrian returnees were more likely to live a life of crime in order to finance the jihad, than to actually commit a terror attack.
One would think that after having spent millions of euros on interreligious dialogues, cultural sensitivity trainings and moral diversity classes, Europe’s social scientists would have punctured the surface by now. But a fundamental discussion on how and why street culture and religion conflate, and what the implications of this new hybrid culture are, seems thus far to have been shied away from.
The analyses that have been made conclude gang members and jihadist mostly resemble one another in their tendency towards and fascination for violence. However, the resemblances between seemingly a-religious street youths from a Muslim background and Islamists, are actually more numerous and more fundamental. Their main parallels are:

This morning I tweeted a link to a great video that describes in detail how Twitter “throttles” the tweets of any content that disagrees with their political views. The video describes how Twitter gives a fake message that some tweets are no longer available, to discourage you from clicking to them. The tweets still exist, and you can access them by directly clicking the links in the tweets, but most people would not think to do that.

Defending what they say is a woman’s right to choose, some 3,000 people have marched through Austria’s capital, Vienna, to protest at government plans to ban full-face Muslim veils in public spaces.
The group ‘Muslim Youth Austria’ organised the rally against the proposed ban on veils such as the burqa and niqab.

Posters accusing Pope Francis of attacking conservative Catholics appeared around Rome this weekend and were swiftly covered up by city authorities.
The posters, put up during the night between Friday and Saturday by mystery activists, featured a picture of a stern-faced pope and the slogan: “Where’s your mercy?”
The text accused Francis of several interventions targeting conservatives, including what the posters called “the beheading of the Knights of Malta.”
This was a reference to an ancient Catholic order of knights which is now a worldwide charity and whose former Grand Master handed in his resignation to the pope last week after a two-month, highly public feud.
The posters appeared several hours before the Vatican announced the name of the pope’s personal delegate to the troubled order, a move that side-lined conservative Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke, who had been its chaplain since 2014 and is a frequent critic of the pope.
In a letter released by the Vatican on Saturday, Francis told Archbishop Angelo Becciu that he would be the “exclusive spokesman” for the pope at the Order until elections are held for a new Grand Master in several months..
The posters were even more mysterious because sections of the text were written in the working class dialect Romanesco, spoken only in the Rome area.
City authorities pasted white paper over them with the message “illegal advertising”, as they had been put up without authorization or the payment of a tax.
The Vatican had no comment. But Father Antonio Spadaro, a Jesuit who is close to the pope, said in a tweet that they were a sign that Francis was doing a good job and therefore irritating many people.

CNN – Posters critical of Pope Francis appear around Rome
Posters of a stern-looking Pope Francis appeared on walls around Rome on Saturday, condemning his actions against some conservative Catholics and asking, “Where is your mercy?”
Written in local Roman dialect, the posters lamented that the Pope had “removed priests; decapitated the Knights of Malta” and “ignored Cardinals,” echoing some of the major complaints some conservative Catholics have about Pope Francis’ recent decisions. The posters were not signed by any group.
On the day the posters appeared the Pope finalized a months-long battle with the Knights of Malta by appointing a Special Delegate from the Vatican and giving him “all necessary powers” to help renew the traditional Catholic Order.
The Knights of Malta have a unique “sovereign” standing within the Catholic Church, similar to that of a separate country, and they had contested the legality of the Pope’s intervention into their order.
Last month the Pope forced the resignation of the head of the Knights of Malta, former Grand Master Matthew Festing, who had publicly opposed him.
The reference in the poster to “decapitation of the Knights of Malta” refers to this battle.
Criticism of the pontiff
Within a few hours of their appearance, the posters had been taken down or covered over by “Illegal Posting” signs from the City of Rome.
Conservative criticism of Pope Francis has intensified since November, when he refused to answer an official letter sent to him by four cardinals. The letter criticized his move to allow divorced and remarried Catholics to receive communion.
That issue has divided many in the Catholic Church and has left bishops around the world arguing about the Pope’s intentions and how to implement the directive.
One of the signers of that letter, known as a dubia, was conservative US Cardinal Raymond Burke, whom the Pope removed as the head of the Vatican’s Supreme Court in 2014 and named as his papal liaison to the Knights of Malta.
On Saturday, the Pope once again effectively sidelined Cardinal Burke by appointing Archbishop Angelo Becciu as his “special delegate” to the Knights and his “exclusive spokesman” in relations between the order and the Vatican.
Defenders of Pope Francis claim the posters are a sign that the Pope is doing something right.
Fr. Antonio Spadaro, editor of Jesuit Vatican journal La Civiltà Cattolica and a friend of Pope Francis, tweeted from Rome: “It’s a sign that he’s doing well and causing A LOT of bother.”
The Vatican declined to comment on the posters.
When asked about conservative criticism of him in a November 2016 interview with Italian bishops’ newspaper Avvenire, the Pope replied, “I don’t lose any sleep over it.”

“A girl was allegedly raped after being forced into a marriage aged only 14, a court has heard.
Mohammed Shakir, 34, from Melbourne, is accused of having sex with the girl in 2016, following their wedding, which was conducted by ex-imam Ibrahim Omerdic, 61, who also faces charges related to the marriage.
The girl, who has not been named, has “ongoing health issues” and is currently in a “fragile state”, prosecutor Ranjani Padmanabhan told Melbourne Magistrates Court.

A candidate who was expelled from the race to be the next chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) for criticising Islam, has told Breitbart News he will be pursuing legal action for a breach of his First Amendment rights.
Vincent Tolliver, who previously ran an unsuccessful campaign for Congress in Arkansas, was expelled from the campaign by interim DNC Chairwoman Donna Brazil, after telling The Hill didn’t believe his rival Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn) should become chairman because of his Islamic faith, citing the religion’s positions on homosexuality.
“His being a Muslim is precisely why DNC voters should not vote for him. Muslims discriminate against gays. Islamic law is clear on the subject, and being gay is a direct violation of it. In some Muslim countries, being gay is a crime punishable by death,” Tolliver said.

YERUSHALAYIM – A top Hamas terrorist was killed in an explosion in Gaza, Hamas announced Sunday. Mohammed Koka was the head of missile and bomb manufacturing for the terror group. He was severly wounded in an explosion in northern Gaza Saturday night, Hamas said. Hamas classified the explosion as a “work accident,” with the explosion ripping off several of his limbs, injuring him severely. He died shortly later in a Gaza hospital.

New Clinton Emails Show Huma Abedin Assisting Clinton Foundation Donor
New State Department emails obtained by Judicial Watch show that top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin was asked by one of the Clinton Foundation’s most controversial donors to secure an invitation to an Obama administration State Dinner.
The email correspondence with Abedin, which was contained in a group of 21 previously undisclosed emails that were handed to the watchdog group, show that donors to the Clinton Foundation thought that they could receive favors from the State Department while Clinton was at the helm.
“As you know, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and President Obama are having a State Dinner,” wrote Sant Chatwal, an Indian man who has donated millions of dollars to the Clinton Foundation, in November 2009. “Any possibilities to include me and my wife for this dinner? If so, that would be really great!”
Abedin said that Clinton’s office was unable to secure an invitation to the State Dinner, but offered Chatwal access to the Indian prime minister nonetheless.
“We have no control over the white house state dinner,” Abedin replied. “But, Hillary is hosting the state lunch for the prime minister with vice president biden at the state department and you should be receiving your invitation to that soon. Will be the same day, nov 24th.”
In 2014, Chatwal pled guilty to felony charges in the United States for illegally funneling nearly $200,000 in campaign money to federal candidates. Chatwal was brought up on conspiracy and witness tampering charges in addition to the charges for illegal contributions.
In 2006, Former President Bill Clinton attended the wedding of Chatwal’s son, who was later arrested in a United States airport for attempting to travel with cocaine and heroin.
Other emails sent by Abedin that are contained in the recent release contain classified names of intelligence agency employees, according to the watchdog group.
Judicial Watch said that the emails show “further proof” of Clinton’s wrongdoing as secretary of state.
“These new emails provide further proof that Hillary Clinton used her official office to provide special treatment for donors to the Clinton Foundation and members of the Foundation staff,” said Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton.
Fitton also voiced his opinion that the newly released emails put further pressure on Republican President Donald Trump to initiate a “serious investigation” into Clinton’s email issue.
“The new national security material in these emails will increase pressure on the Trump administration to authorize a serious investigation of Clinton’s email practices,” Fitton said.
