  1. “Relatives baffled and shamed as Israel’s ‘Isis family’ returns home

Wissam and Sabareen Zbeidt are among the few Israeli citizens who went to join Islamic State fighters in Iraq and Syria

Few Israeli citizens have gone to fight with Islamic State, perhaps a total of 50 in four years. Far fewer still have made it back to Israel to tell their tale.

Among that handful is Sabareen Zbeidt, aged 30, and her husband, Wissam, aged 42, who flew back into Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion airport last month with their three children – aged between three and eight – in the knowledge they would face long sentences in jail.

Their return marked the end of a year-long journey through the brutalities and poverty of Isis’s self-proclaimed caliphate in both Syria and Iraq, where Wissam fought with the group while Sabareen monitored security cameras in a hospital.

Disillusioned, and with Wissam wounded in the leg in fighting against the Iraqi army, they were finally persuaded by their family to come home. At the 10th attempt to cross the dangerous border with Turkey, they finally made it out of Syria with people smugglers paid for by Sabareen’s father – and with the youngest daughter drugged to keep her quiet. On 22 September they flew back to Israel – and immediate arrest.

A housewife and a furniture upholsterer, Sabareen and Wissam both came from families that were Hebrew-speaking, professional and middle class – far, far removed from the world of the radical Islam espoused by Isis. Their decisions have come as a profound shock and source of shame to their families, which alerted Israeli security services to the fact that their relatives had gone to join the “caliphate”.
Even among Sabareen’s closest family members who worked so hard to bring them back, there was little sympathy for the jail time the couple are now facing.

“Every person with a head on his shoulders knows it is better to be in hell here, than in paradise [with Isis],” one close member of the family told the Guardian bitterly the day after the couple appeared in court in Haifa, charged with joining an “enemy organisation”.

The story that Israel’s “Isis family” told their interrogators has cast a light not only on their own radicalisation and harsh experiences with the jihadist group, but on the wider phenomenon of Isis jihadis with Israeli citizenship – one of the least represented groups in Isis. It has raised many questions too for their relatives, not least how it was possible for the Zbeidts to radicalise online and – undetected by Israel’s security services or close relatives – make the contacts necessary to arrange their passage to the Islamists’ Syrian capital, Raqqa.

According to the indictment, the couple told investigators that they left Israel on 16 June last year to visit relatives in Romania, then travelled to Turkey where, via social media, they had already made contact with another Israeli national from the town of Umm-al-Fahm who had joined Isis in 2013. Handing their Israeli passports to the Isis contact who met them at the Syrian border, they were taken to Raqqa first. There, Wissam was separated from Sabareen and his children and sent to a training camp in Iraq before being sent to Mosul where he was injured in the leg during a raid on an Iraqi military outpost.

Sabareen’s family, who live in a large village outside the Israeli-Arab city of Sakhnin which includes a retired Israeli police officer and a teacher – say they are ashamed and angry at what their relative has done. In interviews with the Guardian, they described how Sabareen made a night-time departure from Romania where she and her family were visiting her brother, who was then completing his medical studies.

“Two of her brothers were sleeping in a room,” the family member recalled asking for anonymity before speaking. “She shook him and told him she was leaving ‘for Iraq’.” Still half asleep, her family says, her brother did not fully understand what she was saying until it was too late.

Sabareen’s relatives do not, however, dispute most of what was in a statement from Shin Bet, Israel’s security service, or the indictment, describing the details alleged as “99% correct”. Furious and ashamed at the couple’s actions, they talked of their bafflement at how the couple’s online activities and contacts with Isis were missed by Israel’s famously attentive security services.
“We have so many questions about what happened,” explained the relative. “Why weren’t they noticed and stopped? We still don’t know what was on their minds, what they planned, or who sent them. It’s no secret but after they went missing, once we understood, we informed the authorities.”

One clue has been supplied in an interview that appeared on Israeli news website Ynet with another member of Sabareen’s family, who suggested that it was the older Wissam who pressured Sabareen to join Isis with her children. Declining to confirm this, the relative who spoke to the Guardian added only that the family would “shut the door” to Wissam should he ever be released.

“He is a furniture upholsterer,” he added. “He had a very good business. He always used to boast how he had clients who were [Israeli] security people.

But Sabareen also seemed an unlikely candidate for Isis, recalled family members – she was not overly religious, and shown little interest in events in Syria and Iraq. “When I saw her yesterday on television in the court, fully veiled, I thought: since when does she do that?” the family member said.

“Maybe they thought it would be an adventure. Maybe they wanted be famous or thought in 100 years they would be remembered by history. Who did she think she was going to free in Syria? Who was she going to free in Iraq?

“We are we are people who don’t make problems,” the relative added. “We are loyal to this country. They should be in prison for what they have done.”

Equally worrying for Israel’s authorities is the fact that the Zbeidt case is the third in a month to come to court following the arrest and indictment of six residents of east Jerusalem who had allegedly set up an Isis-inspired study group and planned to reach join Isis in Syria or Egypt.

But if the Zbeidt’s motivations for travelling to join Isis remain obscure, what is clear is their reasons for returning, described by the couple to their interrogators and recounted in the Shin Bet statement that accompanied their charging. “At the start of the current year,” the statement read, “the family members suffered a heavy bombardment that caused widespread destruction and heavy casualties in their area of residence. The children developed anxieties as a result.

“Many details were also learned about the harsh routine under Daesh [Isis] rule. For example, the administration enacted discriminatory laws against women and used brutal methods of punishment such as the amputation of limbs, lashings and beheadings. A “morality police” enforced dress codes for women and regarding the length of men’s beards. Daesh approved trafficking in Yazidi women for housework and for sex. Children as young as eight undergo military training.”

The Zbeidts children are being cared for by Sabareen’s parents. “We are so happy to have the children back and safe,” the relative added. “But as for the parents, it is almost as if we are in mourning. Not just the family, but the whole village. We don’t want this kind of people. If they had died there, it would have been less shameful for us.”

  2. “Spanish police arrest two Moroccans accused of supporting ISIS

MADRID (Reuters) – Spanish police have arrested two Morrocan imams on the island of Ibiza accused of supporting the Islamist militant group Islamic State publicly and through their social media profiles, the Interior Ministry said on Tuesday.

The two men, 31 and 35, began expressing their support for the group in 2012 and have since been posting pro-militant material, such as links to videos and publications, on the internet, the ministry said.

This year, Spanish police have arrested 49 people, including the two men detained on Tuesday, with suspected connections to Islamist militants.”

  3. “One in four British councils ‘REFUSE to accept migrants from Calais’ as Jungle closes

ONE IN FOUR British councils are reportedly refusing to accept refugees as swathes of migrants are set to enter the UK from the Calais camp, which is closing this week.

Theresa May’s own constituency, Maidenhead, is one of the 38 councils out of 156 in England that are unwilling to resettle migrants, according to the Guardian.

The councils’ policy towards migrants have come to light as the country braces itself to accommodate refugees coming out of the Calais refugee camp.

Home Secretary Amber Rudd said 800 migrant children – who have been interviewed in Calais by Home Office officials – claim to have family links in Britain.

A further 200 child migrants have been brought to Britain in the past week, including 60 girls under the Dubs amendment, which is designed to protect vulnerable child refugees across Europe.

Mrs Rudd insisted child migrants will be subjected to proper “age assessment and security check” before they are allowed to come to Britain.

Hundreds of child migrants are due to arrive in the UK over the coming weeks
She said: “We will only consider those present in the camps before the start of the operation today.

“We will continue to do this quickly, but it is essential that we carry out the proper safeguarding, age assessment and security checks, working closely with local authorities and social workers here in the UK, to ensure that the children are eligible, and that it is in their best interests to come.”

David Simmonds, chairman of the Local Government Association’s asylum, refugee and migration task group, said social workers will be provided by local authorities to carry out assessments to ensure the process is managed effectively.

He said: “Those arriving from the Calais camp will require care and support packages directly from councils and their partners.

“For those children relocated with existing family living in the UK, councils will still want to be assured that arrangements put in place can meet the child’s needs and that they are safe and well.”

Mr Simmonds added town halls “also require long-term funding arrangements from government so that the commitment to support those children starting a new life in the UK is properly funded”.

Campaigners say hundreds of children in the camp have a right to come to Britain – either because they have family ties in the UK or through a programme to give refuge to unaccompanied minors from Europe.”

  4. “Calais migrants: ‘Jungle’ camp demolition set to begin

France is set to begin the next stage of its clearance of the “Jungle” migrant camp in Calais, sending in teams to dismantle its structures.

More than 2,300 migrants left the camp voluntarily on Monday, taken on buses to reception areas across France.

The exodus will continue on Tuesday, with hundreds already queuing to leave.

The Jungle has become a key symbol of Europe’s migration crisis, with 7,000-8,000 people living in squalid conditions, desperate to reach the UK.

The clearance process has been peaceful so far, but concerns remain that some migrants will stay put, refusing to give up their attempts to cross the Channel.

The BBC’s Simon Jones, at the camp, was jostled as police tried to keep order among the hundreds of migrants who lined up early on Tuesday to get on coaches out of the camp.
He says that officials will move in later to begin clearing the Jungle’s infrastructure. But they are expected to do so by hand, as sending in bulldozers at this point would send the wrong message to migrants they want to convince to get on buses voluntarily.

Christian Salome of the Auberge des Migrants charity said the process was working well so far because those leaving were the ones who wanted to.

But he added: “I’m much more concerned about later in the week when the only ones remaining are those who do not want to leave, who still want to reach England.”

There are warnings that those determined to stay will set up camp in the surrounding countryside while the demolition takes place before returning to the area.

Children are the only group allowed to stay in Calais. They will be housed in the camp’s converted shipping containers while the rest of the Jungle is dismantled.

Almost 200 children from the camp have been brought to the UK, some of them under the “Dubs” amendment to the Immigration Act, according to UK Home Secretary Amber Rudd.

The amendment allows particularly vulnerable children – such as girls and those under 13 – refuge in the UK, even if they do not have family already in the country.

Happy to go? Migrants say goodbye to the Jungle

Dismantling the Jungle – Day One
But the process of transferring some of the estimated 1,300 unaccompanied children from the camp was halted on Monday at the request of the French.

The operation to clear the tents and shelters is expected to take three days. More than 1,200 police have been deployed.

The French interior ministry said “police might be forced to intervene” if there was unrest during the demolition.

Correspondents say the demolition of the camp is a sign from the government to the people of Calais that their concerns are being taken seriously while also a message to remaining residents that the camp will not remain a place of shelter.

    ‘Controlled manner’
Long queues had formed on Monday outside reception centres in the camp as the French authorities worked to determine whether individual migrants were with family members or travelling alone, and whether they were deemed to be vulnerable.

After processing, they boarded buses to different parts of France where they will be given the opportunity to claim asylum, or face deportation.

Britain still within reach: Clea Caulcutt, BBC News, Normandy
Forty-five migrants, all young men from Afghanistan, are settling into the Miramar hotel in Saint Germain-sur-Ay, an empty holiday centre that looks out to the sea.

At the local pizzeria, residents have gathered to vent their discontent. They complain that the migrants will disturb the tranquillity of the resort. They are also worried that the young men will be unsupervised and break into homes that have been closed up for the winter.

Less vocal are those who don’t mind the arrival of the Afghan migrants, those who think it’s only human to welcome those who have spent so many months in the squalor of Calais.

For the migrants, it should be a short stay. They will be encouraged to claim asylum in France and then maybe move onto more permanent housing. But even here, several hundred kilometres from Calais, the allure of the UK is still strong.

From the hotel you can clearly see the island of Jersey – British shores are still within reach.

In a statement (in French), French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said 2,318 migrants had been “given shelter” on Monday.
The first step of the clearance had taken place in a “calm and controlled manner”, he said.
Some volunteers complained that the migrants had not been given enough information.

Last year more than one million migrants – many fleeing the civil war in Syria – arrived in Europe. Countries struggled to cope and division arose in the EU over how best to deal with resettling people.

An EU-Turkey pact to try to stop migrants crossing to Greece and moves by Balkan nations to close their borders have driven down the number of people using the so-called eastern Mediterranean route.

However, migrants from African countries such as Eritrea and Somalia as well as West African nations such as Nigeria and the Gambia are continuing to attempt the crossing from Libya to Italy.”

  7. The difference national will makes: Aircraft carrier edition
    By J.E. Dyer October 25, 2016

The Russian carrier Admiral Kuznetsov has been making a bit of a name for herself, belching and smoking her way through the English Channel (last Friday) as she heads for the Mediterranean Sea.

Some of Russia’s warships tend to do that (the belching and smoking thing). Age is not the only issue; as warships go, Admiral Kuznetsov isn’t that old. America’s and other elite navies have quite a few ships that are older. It’s more a matter of the type of propulsion and the condition in which the engines are kept.

So there’s some fun being made of Admiral Kuznetsov on social media.

  8. Top university stole millions from taxpayers by falsifying global warming research
By LU Staff October 24, 2016

A global warming research center at the London School of Economics got millions of dollars from UK taxpayers by taking credit for research it didn’t perform, an investigation by The Daily Mail revealed.

The UK government gave $11 million dollars to the Centre for Climate Change Economics and Policy (CCCEP) in exchange for research that the organization reportedly never actually carried out.

Many papers CCCEP claimed to have published to get government money weren’t about global warming, were written before the organization was even founded, or were written by researchers unaffiliated with CCCEP. The government never checked CCCEP’s supposed publication lists, saying they were “taken on trust,” according to the report.

“It is serious misconduct to claim credit for a paper you haven’t supported, and it’s fraud to use that in a bid to renew a grant,” Professor Richard Tol, a climate economics expert from Sussex University whose research was reportedly stolen by CCCEP, told The Daily Mail. “I’ve never come across anything like it before. It stinks.”

  9. Is Britain’s Government Destroying its own Military to Appease its Enemies?

Last week General Lord Richards, former Chief of the Defence Staff and the UK’s most senior military officer, made an extraordinary allegation. Speaking on the BBC, he said that elements of the British establishment in Whitehall think their own soldiers are “bad,” and terrorists are “freedom fighters.”

Lord Richards’s assertions have far-reaching significance both within the UK and more widely, affecting the US, the prosecution by the West of the war on terror, and British relations with the State of Israel. Yet they have gone largely unnoticed.

Lord Richards was talking about the ongoing legal campaign against British troops who have fought in Iraq and Afghanistan — the first time in history that any government has turned on its own armed forces in such a way.

1,492 cases of alleged abuse in Iraq are under investigation, and over 600 in Afghanistan. Most of these cases involve allegations against multiple servicemen, so the number of troops under scrutiny can be counted in the thousands. We are not talking here about minor misdemeanours but the most serious forms of abuse including rape, torture and, in Iraq alone, 235 accusations of unlawful killing.

Some soldiers have been under constant investigation for more than 10 years. Some have been acquitted during preliminary investigations or at court martial, only to be dragged back to face repeated legal inquiries and judicial hearings. In some cases, there have been as many as five investigations into a single incident.

Thousands of men who have volunteered to put their lives on the line for their country, and who have been involved in the most traumatic events imaginable, including seeing their close comrades torn apart beside them, have been forced to re-live their experiences over and over again under intense legal scrutiny. Families have broken up, jobs have been lost, lives have been ruined. In some cases, soldiers have attempted or contemplated suicide.

  10. The Funeral of the Oslo Accords

    by Guy Millière
    October 25, 2016 at 4:30 am

The death of former Israeli President Shimon Peres led to a wave of almost unanimous tributes. Representatives from 75 countries came to Jerusalem to attend the funeral. Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas even left Ramallah for a few hours to show up.

Such a consensus could seem to be a sign of support for Israel, but it was something else entirely.

Those who honored the memory of Shimon Peres put aside the years he dedicated to creating Israel’s defense industry and to negotiating key arms deals with France, Germany and the United States. Those who honored the memory of Peres spoke only of the man who signed the Oslo Accords and who embodied the “peace process.” They then used the occasion to accuse Israel.

Barack Obama delivered a speech that could have resembled a mark of heartwarming friendship, until he evoked the “the unfinished business of peace talks.” A harsh and negative sentence followed, saying that “the Jewish people weren’t born to rule another people.” The next sentence implied that Israel is behaving like a slave-owner: “From the very first day we are against slaves and masters;” but it is clear to anyone in Israel that there is no such relationship even resembling that. His conclusion followed: “The Zionist idea will be best protected when Palestinians will have a state of their own.”

  11. Philly flash mob attacks Temple U. students; punches police horse in the face

[Ed. – It really was difficult to find imagery evidence about this, clearly because the MSM don’t want it to be obvious that the mob of teens was black. There’s surveillance camera footage of the mob forming, and the local media do show some of that. Photos on Twitter show the identified victims as white Temple students.]

Investigators say it began through social media with a message for a large group of teens to meet near the campus Friday night.

Police estimate that 200 teenagers were in the crowd at the movie theater at Broad and Oxford and then divided into smaller groups, attacking and robbing students.

In one attack, police say an 18-year-old girl suffered scrapes and cuts to her leg and her cell phone was smashed. Authorities say her debit card was also taken from her purse. …

As officers tried to disperse the crowd, police say a 16-year-old came up to the officer’s horse and struck the horse twice in the face. …

    • Arrests after juvenile mob beats students, punches horse in Philly

PHILADELPHIA – Philadelphia police say they’ve arrested four teens on assault charges in flash mob attacks around Temple University in which college students were beaten, an officer was knocked down and a police horse was punched in the face.

Police say the attacks were carried out Friday night by bands of as many as 100 boys and girls.

CBS Philadelphia reports at least 50 people were detained the night of the attacks.

Temple spokesman Ray Betzner told television station NBC10 that roving juveniles played a “cat-and-mouse game” with police.

Police say students were surrounded and then punched, kicked, robbed and in some cases knocked to the ground by groups of 20 to 30 teens. Arrests have been made in only one of the cases.

Police say a boy punched a police horse twice in the face, and another threw a Temple officer to the ground.

A Temple student who was not named described to CBS Philadelphia the ordeal that he and his girlfriend endured.

  12. Why the UNESCO Vote On the Temple Mount Matters
The UN body’s vote to deny the Jewish heritage of the Temple Mount is a key example of how Islamic supremacism is accepted politically.

On October 13, the UN’s Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) voted on a resolution which denied the Jewish connection to the Temple Mount, the holiest site in Judaism where it is believed that the First and Second Temples once stood.

The site is also holy to Christianity and Islam. It is the third holiest site in Islam and Mohammed is said to have visited the city once in a dream.

Of those who voted, 24 countries voted in favor of the resolution, 26 abstained and 6 voted against.

The resolution condemned Israeli policies, but more controversially, only referred to the Temple Mount by its Islamic name (Haram al-Sharif). It also referred to the Western wall, the last remaining part of the Herodian Second Temple as the Buraq wall, saying that it’s only holy because Mohammed allegedly tied his horse there during his alleged visit to the city.

Despite affirming that the old city of Jerusalem is holy to the three monotheistic faiths (but not mentioning Judaism by name), the resolution makes it very clear whose religious claims the UN organization regard as superior and which inferior.

  13. Swedes and Germans Told to Integrate Into Their “New Country”

In addition to paying for the importation of well over a million Islamic migrants over the last year, Swedish and German taxpayers are financing advertising campaigns urging them to integrate into the new countries that the mass migration is creating. The changes are irreversible and the old way of life is not coming back, so get used to it and adapt, the natives were told.

In Sweden, a tax-funded TV ad created by a government-backed “charity” called “Individuell Manniskohjalp” (Individual Relief), or IM, informs Swedes that their old country is never coming back. Translated to English, the slogan for the campaign is #TheNewNation. “There is no way back,” the ad begins. “Sweden will never be like it was. Europe is changing and Sweden is needed as a safe space for people who seek refuge. Now we must look forward and find a way to live side by side.”

As African and Middle Eastern faces intermixed with Swedish faces cycle through on the screen, the ad informs viewers that Sweden is in for some dramatic changes. “It’s time to realize the new Swedes will claim their space, and will take up room with cultures, languages and customs,” the narrators say in Swedish, alternating between male and female voices. “It’s time we see this as a positive force. The new country is about shaping a new future.”

  14. ITALY – Barricades block arrival of women refugees in small Italian town of Gorino

Interior Minister Angelino Alfano said the protest ‘does not make Italy proud’.

Protesters raised barricades against the arrival of 12 women refugees who were due to be welcomed to a hostel in Gorino, a small town in central Italy with about 4,000 residents.

Around 150 demonstrators put up barriers preventing the bus carrying the women, one of whom is pregnant, from entering the town. They also went on a strike and refused to send children to school, holding a barbecue along the barricades.

In face of the public upheaval, local authorities have relocated the women in nearby towns. “This is not Italy,” said Interior Minister Angelino Alfano condemning the episode. “What happened does not make Italy proud.”

Alfano insisted that the event should not be seen as a mirror of society, pointing to more positive examples of hospitality to the refugees arriving in the country.

In Naples, a banner reading “Welcome refugees, Napoli is your home” was displayed in the city in solidarity with the arrival of 465 refugees rescued by the coastguards over the weekend.

But Matteo Salvini, the leader of the far-right Northern League party expressed solidarity with Gorino’s residents. “I’m with Gorino’s citizens,” he wrote on his social media page. Local representatives of the Northern League party had an instrumental role in rallying support against the arrival of the refugees, using the hashtag #stopinvasione .

They rejected accusations of racism. “Good news from Gorino. The asylum seekers (CLANDESTINES) won’t come here anymore. People from Gorino are not racist,” a social media post from one of the protesters read.

Mario Morcone, head of the immigration department at the Ministry of Interior, said he is ashamed of what happened. “Italians who refuse to help women and children are dull, I am ashamed of being their compatriot,” the Italian news agency reported him saying. “If they do not want to live in the same place as where we welcome refugees, they can go live in Hungary. We will be better off without them,” he added.

Refugees no longer coming to barricade town

Anti-refugee barricades ‘not Italy’, says Interior Minister

FERRARA – Ferrara Prefect Michele Tortora said Tuesday a protest in which locals raised barricades against the arrival of 12 women refugees in the nearby town of Gorino had succeeded in knocking their arrival off the agenda.

“Either we manage this phenomenon together with good sense or we don’t manage it,” Tortora said. “The idea of hosting the refugees at Gorino is no longer on the agenda,” he said. “The tranquility of public order has prevailed, we certainly couldn’t beat people with batons”. Tortora called Monday’s incident “a very sad episode” and said he felt for the women who had come on a very long journey to find barricades facing them. He said if Gorino citizens had understood the case better “perhaps it wouldn’t have happened”.

Anti-refugee barricades ‘not Italy’, says Interior Minister

Raising barricades against the arrival of refugees “is not Italy”, Interior Minister Angelino Alfano said Tuesday after the residents of northern town Golino prevented the arrival of 12 refugees including a pregnant woman Monday. “Setting up road blocks against 12 women, one of them pregnant, does no honour to our country. 15. Germany: Major ‘anti-terror’ op underway in five states across Germany

German police forces carried out a so called ‘anti-terror raid’ in Suhl, Thuringia state, on Tuesday, as part of a major police operation that took place simultaneously across five different federal states of Germany.

According to some sources, police were looking for a 28-year-old suspect, said to be a Russian national of Chechen descent with links to the so-called Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) militant organisation.

    • Those ISIS tunnels are nothing that a couple of fuel-air (i.e., thermobaric or “vacuum”) bombs couldn’t take care of. Even without using ones of sufficient explosive force to collapse those underground structures, a few of the smaller sized ordnance would rapidly deplete ambient oxygen and create such a pressure drop that it would suck the lungs out of their bodies. We did it to the Taliban and we should be doing it to these cretins as well.

        • Too right!

It should come as no surprise that, throughout the entire 0bama administration, the World Press Freedom Index and America’s Economic Freedom Index have been in continuous decline.

        • Protecting al-Q and now ISIS – or ISIL – for those who don’t want to look at their blood-brothers in Africa, Indonesia, Sinai, and elsewhere.

I wouldn’t be surprised if 0 starts negotiating with them, legitimizing them. He’ll go way more “activist” than that rat Jimmy Carter.

          • What is he going to do after the election and before he is scheduled to leave office? I know it is going to be bad for civilization but there are way too many choices to know which ones he will pick. I say ones because we all know he isn’t going to stop with one evil action.

  16. Clinton aide talked of needing to ‘clean’ up Obama’s comments on email server

A top Hillary Clinton aide expressed alarm in early 2015 that President Barack Obama claimed he was unaware of Clinton’s private email server until he learned about it in the news.

“We need to clean this up – he has emails from her – they do not say state.gov,” said Clinton adviser Cheryl Mills in a hacked email posted Tuesday on WikiLeaks.

As the scandal over Clinton’s use of a private email server was still emerging in March 2015, Obama told CBS News that he learned about the arrangement through the media. “The same time everybody else learned it through news reports,” Obama told CBS News’ Bill Plante.

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest later clarified that while the president knew about Clinton’s email address, he “was not aware of the details of how that email address and that server had been set up.”

Clinton’s campaign did not immediately have a comment on Tuesday. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

  17. INDIA – Bizarre case of man who raped, killed a dog has turned into an excuse for Islamophobia

A horrible crime that is causing some horrible reactions.

Violence against animals, in India, has risen quite a bit over the year. Just this past year alone has seen a lot of animal cruelty, whether it was in the form of dragging dogs from a bike, to throwing animals off of a roof, or even burning them alive.

In a shocking and bizarre incident, a 22-year-old man by the name of Aslam Khan was arrested for killing and raping a female dog in Hyderabad.

The police revealed that the dog was murdered and raped afterwards by a person identified as Aslam – a native of Delhi – who was visiting the city.

Md Jahangir, the owner of the deceased dog, sent his sons to check, after he heard his pet making abnormal noises. Jahangir’s sons were shocked to discover a man involved in unnatural sex with the dog.

Aslam Khan, the accused, tried to flee from the spot, but was soon caught by locals and handed over to the police. The police booked him under IPC section 429, 374 and section 11 of Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act.

This news was received by quite a bit of shock, disgust and anger on the social media.

Of course, even the most heinous of crimes have to be unnecessarily politicised. The accused, a Muslim man, somehow turned into a strawman for the Hindu Right to take potshots at Islam.

Unbelievably anti-Muslim comments started doing the rounds pegged on this incident. It seemed many on Twitter just needed an excuse, any excuse, to vent their communal vitriol.

Aslam Khan’s crime is no doubt, inhuman and disgusting, but what can one say about rabble-rousers who want to give something like this a religious angle?

  18. UK to resume training of Syrian opposition to fight Daesh

UK personnel will train members of vetted moderate Syrian opposition groups in infantry, medical and explosive hazard awareness skills as part of the counter Daesh campaign, the Defence Secretary Michael Fallon has announced.

Underlining the UK’s commitment to the campaign against Daesh, Mr Fallon said that up to twenty UK personnel would deploy to locations in the region but outside Syria to provide vetted members of moderate Syrian opposition groups with the skills they need to continue to take the fight to Daesh.

As the campaign against Daesh terrorists reaches a crucial stage, following the advance on Mosul in Iraq, UK troops will help improve the capabilities of vetted members of the moderate Syrian opposition, and to generate greater numbers of trained moderate Syrian opposition fighters to contribute to the counter Daesh campaign.

The training will focus on basic infantry tactics, command and control, explosive hazard awareness training (EHAT) and medical training.

The announcement follows a US request to the UK to provide support for their Train and Equip Programme, which recently restarted in July 2016.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s Counter Daesh Ministerial in Paris, Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said:

Daesh are the back foot. The RAF is already playing a leading role in the air, hitting them hard in Iraq and Syria.

Now we’re stepping up our support by training moderate opposition forces outside Syria in the skills they need to defeat Daesh.

As Iraqi and Kurdish forces continue operations in Mosul, the UK supported training will help cement recent progress in northwest Syria, underlining the pressure Daesh is now under on all fronts.

All volunteers from the moderate opposition will be subject to strict vetting procedures and will receive training in International Humanitarian Law. Trainees will be security and medically screened prior to the start of training and will be assessed during and monitored after training.

    • Wa Po -Plans to send heavier weapons to CIA-backed rebels in Syria stall amid White House skepticism

As rebel-held sections of Aleppo crumbled under Russian bombing this month, the Obama administration was secretly weighing plans to rush more firepower to CIA-backed units in Syria.

The proposal, which involved weapons that might help those forces defend themselves against Russian aircraft and artillery, made its way onto the agenda of a recent meeting President Obama held with his national security team.

And that’s as far as it got. Neither approved nor rejected, the plan was left in a state of ambiguity that U.S. officials said reflects growing administration skepticism about escalating a covert CIA program that has trained and armed thousands of Syrian fighters over the past three years.

The operation has served as the centerpiece of the U.S. strategy to press Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to step aside. But U.S. officials said there are growing doubts that even an expanded version could achieve that outcome because of Moscow’s intervention. Obama, officials said, now seems inclined to leave the fate of the CIA program up to the next occupant of the White House.[…]

The changes that will remove Russia from the long term enemy category are:

          1) Russia becomes more of a Republic and less of an Oligarchy.

          2) The US returns to being a Republic.

          3) We have a religious revival in the US similar to the one that occurred in Russia. (It is no longer politically incorrect to admit you are religious).

TIME – Watch Live: Director of National Intelligence James Clapper to Address Russian Interference in Election

The White House has accused Russia of meddling in the presidential election

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper on Tuesday is expected to address alleged attempts by Russian hackers to influence the U.S. presidential election.

Clapper is expected to address the issue while speaking at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York, Reuters reported.

Intelligence officials have said Russian operatives were responsible for a hack of the Democratic National Committee emails this summer, and the White House has since officially accused the Russian government of meddling in the U.S. election.

While intelligence officials have warned about Russian attempts to interfere, officials have said hackers would not be able to alter the election’s outcome because of the decentralized electoral system. Elections are handled by state and local authorities, not by the federal government.

Madeleine Albright: Trump is a ‘useful idiot’ for Russia

Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright said Monday that all evidence points to the idea that Donald Trump is being played by the Kremlin, and that the Russians are using an unwitting GOP nominee for their own gain.

“There is a great term the Soviets used to use: ‘somebody being a useful idiot,'” Albright, who is now a major supporter of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell. “I think that Trump falls into that category of people that are manipulated also by the Russians and the Russians are trying to interfere in our democracy because they don’t have one themselves.”

She continued, and said that in all her experiences dealing with foreign countries, Russia’s alleged involvement in the recent email hacking of the Democratic National Committee and Clinton’s campaign chairman, John Podesta, is simply “stunning.”

Albright also said Trump is making matters worse by seemingly encouraging the hackings, like when he suggested in July that the Russians probably have Clinton’s 33,000 deleted State Department emails and that they would “probably be rewarded mightily by our press” if they released them.

“I have never seen a mind meld of this kind between the Russian leadership and a candidate for the presidency of the United States,” she said Monday. “Trump was briefed in his intelligence briefings about what the Russians are doing and he is playing their game instead of being concerned about America’s democratic system.”

This is neither the first time that Albright has criticized Trump for his comments on the hackings, nor is she the only former member of the intelligence community to suggest the GOP nominee is being played by the Kremlin.

“I spent … a third of a century at the agency. And in that time, it was my job to look at foreign leaders and to assess them, assess their intentions, their capabilities, their motivations, their interest in working with the U.S. or not, etcetera, etcetera,” Former CIA Deputy Director Michael Morell said in a conference call with reporters last month.

“And if I sort of turned that analytical spotlight on Donald Trump, I would tell you that his No. 1 interest, the thing he cares about the most, is not the United States of America. It is Donald Trump. He cares more about himself than he does about anything else, including his nation,” he said.

Albright, who was also on that call, added to Morrell’s comments, “[Trump] is a gift to Putin, and now we can see that Putin is a gift to him.”

The director of national intelligence, James Clapper Jr., and the Department of Homeland Security said earlier this year in a statement that the email hacks, which have been published by WikiLeaks, appear to be part of a larger, Russian-led effort to “interfere with the U.S. election process.”

“We believe, based on the scope and sensitivity of these efforts, that only Russia’s senior-most officials could have authorized these activities,” the statement said.

      • The Dems are trying to make it difficult for Trump to protest their open stealing of the election.

        • Clap-trap and not-so-Bright. This election WILL be stolen if these fossil comrades have their way.
Messing with the polls, collaborating with the LSM, ginning up for war with Russia. The Clinton Machine will stop at nothing.

          • From what I am seeing the election will be won by the people who stopped voting years to decades ago that are coming out to support Trump because he isn’t a politician and isn’t one of the people who have stolen the country. Those were the people who elected Reagan and this time there is a conservative VP pick instead of a liberal one. This is one of the reasons the left are panicking, Trump has 8 good years and then Pence will be elected to continue the conservative revolution.

            • That’s assuming ‘free & fair’ elections.
No way is that gonna happen without vigilance. Trump’s people must be working on it. I certainly hope so.

  20. The 131 Black Men Murdered by Black Lives Matter
Obama cheers on the country’s greatest force killing black people.

Black Lives Matter was called into being to protest what the racist hate group claimed was the killings of black men by police. Activists with the extremist organization have accused law enforcement of genocide. According to a study widely touted by activists, 300 black people were shot by police in 2015.

That same year 320 black people became homicide victims in Baltimore alone.

In 2014, 189 died. And then Baltimore came under assault from Black Lives Matter over the Freddie Case leading to riots and the Ferguson Effect crippling law enforcement efforts. The police became the villains. Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake offered the racist rioters and looters space to destroy. Along with the businesses and sense of security, here is what else was destroyed.

An additional 131 black men died in 2015 in Baltimore. 16 black women were murdered in both 2014 and 2015. The huge increase came at the expense of black men. The biggest bump in homicides, 49 to 99, happened among young black men aged 18 to 25. This year’s incomplete toll already stands at 68.

The second biggest increase marked black men aged 26 to 34 whose death toll rose from 60 to 108.

277 black men were shot in 2015. Up from 141 in 2014. Shootings overall in Baltimore rose 72%.

  21. Oh, No, Virginia: There Is No Such Thing As Voter Fraud
Do the Democrats know something we don’t? Democrats tell us all the time: there is no such thing as voter fraud. Show them the evidence – such as this report from the Public Interest Legal Foundation that found more than 1,000 non-citizens registered to vote in Virginia -– and they reply, well that is just anecdotal.

And if Project Veritas captures the Democrat Commissioner on the New York City Board of Elections admitting in an undercover video that Democrats “bus people around to vote” all the time, why, that’s just gonzo journalism by a “convicted felon.”

Rest assured, Virginia: our elections are secure. There is no organized voter fraud, and to suggest otherwise – as Donald Trump did last week – is just downright un-American. How do we know this? Because President Obama just told us so.

Of course, when Obama first ran for President in 2008, he expressed concern that hackers could gain access to electronic voting machines to alter the results, and told supporters he wanted to set up a non-partisan election integrity division at the Justice Department “that is serious about investigating cases of vote fraud.”

  22. “South-east Asia faces rising threat from ISIS groups: Study

JAKARTA (AFP) – South-east Asia faces a growing risk of extremist violence as Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) group supporters increasingly work together, but law enforcement agencies are unprepared for the new threat, a report warned on Tuesday (Oct 25).

The main danger lies in the strife-torn southern Philippines, where a handful of Islamic extremist groups have sworn allegiance to ISIS, according to the report from think-tank the Institute for Policy Analysis of Conflict (IPAC).

The groups have links to other parts of the region, particularly Indonesia and Malaysia, and ISIS has endorsed a Philippines-based militant as “amir”, or leader, for South-east Asia, the report said.

“ISIS has deepened cooperation among extremist groups in South-east Asia,” said the report, adding the trend had widened the “extremist recruitment pool” and opened new channels for international funding and communication.

“More deadly violence in the Philippines involving alliances of pro-ISIS groups is a matter of when, not if. It may also increase the possibility of cross-border extremist operations.”

However, it noted that “most law enforcement agencies retain a strongly national orientation, without in-house expertise on groups outside their own borders”.

While ISIS is rapidly losing territory in Iraq and Syria, the effect may be to increase the risk of revenge attacks in South-east Asia, said the report by Jakarta-based IPAC, headed by terrorism analyst Sidney Jones.

The warning came as the United States ambassador to Manila Philip Goldberg said on Tuesday that America wants to remain involved in the campaign to quell Islamic militancy in the southern Philippines, after President Rodrigo Duterte threatened to kick out US forces.

Parts of South-east Asia have long struggled with Islamic militancy and hundreds of radicals from the region have flocked to join ISIS.

South-east Asians fighting for the militants have formed their own unit in the Middle East, called Katibah Nusantara, and are believed to be in regular contact with militants back home.

The region suffered its first ISIS attack in January when extremists launched a deadly suicide bombing and gun assault in Jakarta.

The IPAC report examined four pro-ISIS groups in the southern Philippine region of Mindanao and their links to neighbouring countries.

It said the Maute group, which is accused of carrying out a bombing in Mr Duterte’s southern home town of Davao in September that killed 15 people, had the “smartest, best-educated and most sophisticated members”.”

    • The West is making the mistake of concentrating on the MIdeast as the only war zone, this is a world war that is being fought all around the world and in all nations although some don’t realize this yet.

      • Not only that, The Philippines are a proverbial “canary in the coal mine”. As one of Asia’s only Christian nations (I’ve heard that South Korea is the second), The Philippines will be a primary target for Islamic terrorism. Yes, this is a global conflict but special attention needs to paid regarding the routine extermination of Christians (be they in Egypt, Syria, Iraq or The Philippines).

Israel’s Jews have their own insurance policy, as in The Samson Option, which will see all of the Muslim Middle East glassed over if that nation takes even a single WMD hit. The world’s Christian population has no such protective shield. In fact, quite the opposite, with a milquetoast like Pope Francis constantly appeasing Islam at the risk of Christian lives everywhere. Whatever happened to the “church militant”?

Not widely known is how, in The Philippines, the Maguindinao (or Ampatuan) Massacre (known also as, “the single deadliest event for journalists in history) was led by Islamic terrorists on behalf of local Muslim warlords. From what I was told during my visit there just weeks afterward, these poobahs resented the government and media investigations into why all the money being sent there was having so little effect with respect to building schools and hospitals, even as the warlords were living in palatial residences (funded by guess what).

  23. France: Defence ministers from US-led coalition discuss Mosul’s future in Paris

US Secretary of Defence Ashton Carter stated that the ongoing Iraqi operation to retake Mosul from the so-called Islamic State “will succeed,” speaking at the meeting with defence ministers participating in the US-led coalition, in Paris, Tuesday.

“I’m encouraged by the results of the Mosul operation as far as it has been proceeding according to plan… I’m confident the Iraqi security forces will succeed,” he said, before adding that “it will continue to be a tough fight. Indeed we’ll probably see more resistance as the fight goes on and almost certainly as our partners approach the centre of the city.”

    • Ash Carter: Raqqa Invasion Will Begin Before Mosul Campaign Ends

Secretary of Defense Ash Carter revealed Tuesday that Western allies fighting the Islamic State have already begun preparing to invade the terrorist group’s de facto capital of Raqqa in Syria before the ongoing military campaign to recapture the ISIS-controlled Iraqi city of Mosul is complete.

In anticipation of potential security threats and repercussions from the Islamic State’s expulsion from Mosul, Carter was hosted by his French counterpart, Jean-Yves Le Drian, in Paris and met with defense ministers from 12 other nations to discuss plans for Raqqa, the Wall Street Journal reported

“We’ve already begun laying the groundwork with our partners to commence the isolation of Raqqa,” Mr. Carter said. “As we meet here, we’re helping to generate the local forces that will do so.”

The question of what ground forces will lead the invasion of Raqqa is proving to be a thorny problem for the U.S. and its allies. Turkey, a key member of the anti-Islamic State coalition, has objected to Kurdish fighters, longtime foes of Ankara, being involved in the operation.

Mr. Carter on Tuesday described the soldiers that he hopes will take Raqqa as “capable and motivated local forces that we identify and then enable. The lasting defeat of ISIL can’t be achieved by outsiders; it can only be achieved by Syrians enabled by us.” ISIL is one acronym for Islamic State.

Carter and other senior officials believe that ISIS militants may begin retreating from Raqqa to plan other terrorist attacks in the region or Europe, raising the urgency to take Raqqa to prevent further attacks. French President François Hollande said Tuesday at the start of the meeting that the U.S.-led coalition would need to focus on picking out ISIS fighters from civilian masses expected to flee when combat reaches Mosul itself, Iraq’s second largest city.

“We must clearly identify them, and we must be extremely vigilant about the return of foreign fighters,” Hollande said.

Iraqi and Kurdish forces, with American advisers, began their operation to reclaim Mosul last week and have been largely successful, getting closer to the outskirts of the city of 1.2 million people. Iraqi security forces anticipate more resistance as they get closer to the central part of the city.

ISIS jihadists are expected to flee from Iraq and Syria as they lose territory, which concerns American advisers due to their likely tactic of reverting back to bombing civilian targets or using guerrilla tactics, the Journal noted.

“Those who are hatching those plots, we’re killing the leadership of ISIL,” Mr. Carter said in Erbil on Sunday. “We’re getting more and more effective at doing that.”

Defense officials hoped the meeting Tuesday would get the coalition to focus on what happens after Islamic State loses its main territories and becomes more of a traditional terrorist threat.

“This meeting will follow up those themes, and start to push the conversation in a more focused way beyond Mosul and Raqqa,” a senior defense official said.

Hours prior to the Paris meeting, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg warned in Brussels that Russian naval ships headed towards the Mediterranean could strike targets and civilians in eastern Aleppo in Syria.

“The battle group may be used to increase Russia’s ability to take part in combat operations over Syria and to conduct even more airstrikes against Aleppo,” Stoltenberg said. “The concern is that the carrier group can be used as a platform for increased airstrikes against civilians in Aleppo.”

  26. Gen. Boykin: Radical Muslims Plan ‘To Infiltrate Every Element of Our Society, Including the Church’
    By Michael W. Chapman | October 25, 2016 | 2:43 PM EDT

During a discussion about radical Islam and how its followers seek to damage the United States, Lt. Gen. (ret.) William G. “Jerry” Boykin, former head of Special Operations Command, noted the jihadist document “Explanatory Memorandum,” which was uncovered in 2004, and said the radical Islamists plan to “infiltrate every element of our society, including the church.”

“It’s a five-phase plan to take over America,” said Boykin at the Breaking the Silence conference in August in Colorado Springs. “It’s unfolding right now. Now, there are more specific plans that they have for how they’re going to take over. And as Kamal Saleem [a former jihadist] said, they’re going to infiltrate every element of our society, including the church.”

  30. German ammunition sales increase ten-fold (DW, Oct 25, 2016)
    http://www.dw.com/en/german-ammunition-sales-increase-ten-fold/a-36148546

“Germany’s ammunition exports skyrocketed in the first half of 2016, a leaked report has revealed. Turkey, currently suppressing its political opposition, has moved up the list of the country’s best customers.

The German government has allowed the country’s gun-makers to sell even more ammunition around the world in the first half of 2016, according to an arms export report leaked to the DPA news agency and due to be discussed in a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

The sales of small arms themselves have fallen slightly, from 12.4 million euros ($13.5 million) to 11.6 million euros, but the approved ammunition sales rose from 27 million euros to 283.8 million euros.

This broke down into 275 million euros worth of sales to EU, NATO, and NATO-allied countries (Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Switzerland) as well as some 5.4 million euros to Iraq. The three biggest single customers were France, Poland, and Iraq, where Germany is supporting the Kurdish fighters in their battle against “Islamic State.”

Sebastian Schulte, defence analyst and Germany correspondent for military magazine “Jane’s Defence Weekly,” said the increase in ammunition was not particularly surprising, given the intensification of the battles in Syria and northern Iraq.

“The coalition is at the gates of Mosul, they’re going through a lot of ammunition, and Germany has decided to support the coalition – notably the Kurds,” he told DW. “You can go through several barrels of ammo for a machine gun in a day. That is quite normal.”

Not only that, Germany is probably also sending a lot of ammunition to Turkey, he speculates: “And as you know, Turkey is also highly involved both in Syria and in anti-IS operations.”

As Schulte explained, Germany’s assault rifle ammunition is designed to be used in several different guns across NATO armies – though not in older guns like the Soviet-designed Kalashnikov or the 1960s era German machine gun, the G3.

    Doing business in conflict zones

The report also reveals that Turkey has become a better weapons customer in the last few years: moving up from 25th place to 8th place since the beginning of the refugee crisis. Two-thirds of these sales came in plane parts, unmanned drones, and other military equipment.

South Korea is also buying more from Germany, thanks to escalating tension with its northern neighbor, and has bought 205 million euros worth of military equipment, including military ships, submarine and helicopter parts, missiles and missile defense systems.

Saudi Arabia remains Germany’s third-biggest buyer, increasing its purchases from 179 million euros in the first half of 2015 to 484 million euros, while the United Arab Emirates almost doubled its purchases from Germany from 46 million euros to 85 million euros.

Meanwhile, and somewhat surprisingly, Algeria was best individual customer in the first half of 2016, buying 1.04 billion euros of German military equipment, closely followed by the US, who bought 914 million euros’ worth…”

“CHRISTIAN refugees were forced to flee a migrant camp in Germany after Muslim asylum seekers threatened them with “beheading” because they are “unbelievers”.

Christians living in a migrant centre in Rotenburg, central Germany, are facing death threats and ‘sentencing’ by unofficial Sharia council, according to a shocking study released by the Christian persecution charity.

In one horrifying case, a Christian migrant returned from church to find a notice in one of the rooms saying: “To all Muslims: now is the time to behead the unbelievers.”

Christians were forced to flee the camp in a desperate bid to avoid an attack, according to research by Open Doors…”

  33. Saudi women launch drive to bring down maids’ wages (saudigazette, Oct 26, 2016)
    http://saudigazette.com.sa/saudi-arabia/saudi-women-launch-drive-bring-maids-wages/

“A group of Saudi women has launched a campaign to bring down the exorbitantly high wages of domestic helpers.

The move follows a series of successful boycott campaigns launched by Saudis against traders and telecom companies for raising the prices of essential commodities and services.

Saudi women have formed a group to stop the monopoly of housemaids who work illegally after running away from their sponsors. Although the wages of housemaids have been standardized at SR2,000 a month, the campaigners feel that even SR2,000 is a high salary and it should be brought down to SR1,000, especially when Saudi families’ income has dwindled as a result of austerity measures.

They are asking Saudi families not to pay salaries higher than SR1,000 to their maids.

The government has cut ministers’ salaries by 20 percent and scaled back allowances for public sector employees.

The measures, disclosed in a Cabinet statement last month, constitute the first pay cuts for government employees, who make up about two-thirds of working Saudis.

The measures included cancellation of some bonuses and financial benefits.”

  34. France to scrap special prison wings for dangerous jihadists (thelocal, Oct 25, 2016)
    https://www.thelocal.fr/20161025/france-to-shut-down-de-radicalization-prison-wings

“France’s Minister of Justice, Jean-Jacques Urvoas, announced on Tuesday the end of French prison wings for radicalized inmates, promising a new “regime” instead.

France has five prisons with experimental de-radicalisation wings for dangerous Islamist extremists, and all these units will be shut down.

Exact details of the new plan remain unclear at present, although the L’Express newspaper said that it would concentrate on the country’s 300 prisoners considered to be the most dangerous.

Prisoners “will be subjected to particularly severe detention in conditions close to solitary confinement”, the paper reported.

France’s de-radicalization prison wings were rolled out in January this year, and saw prisoners who were convicted of terrorism housed in their own cells, where they were unable to communicate with anyone who they could potentially influence.

The inmates had to undergo a kind of de-radicalization course with psychologists and repentant former jihadists in the trial.
However while the plan may sound sensible, many had criticised it for helping jihadist networks grow.

In July a critical reportuggested this isolated prison wings option was not the best solution.

The report by France’s chief prison inspector Adeline Hazan said France’s justice system was facing a phenomenon “which it had no measure of the nature or extent of”.

Her report stressed that grouping Islamist extremist prisoners together continues to worry counter-terrorist judges because of the harmful impacts which include “allowing solidarity to build between prisoners, networks to be reconstructed and allow the more influential inmates to put pressure on the most vulnerable.”

The rehabilitation programme was brought in by Prime Minister Manuel Valls after it emerged that two of the gunmen in the January 2015 terror attacks in Paris had been radicalized in French prisons.

Valls promised a crackdown, acknowledging that they had become a hot spot for jihadists to meet, conspire, and recruit.

“We separate these inmates from the rest,” PM Manuel Valls said in the aftermath of the Charlie Hebdo and Jewish store attacks.

“It must become a general measure but it must be done with discernment and intelligence,” the PM added.”

  35. Turkish justice minister heads to US for Gülen extradition talks (hurriyetdailynews, Oct 25, 2016)
    http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/turkish-justice-minister-heads-to-us-for-gulen-extradition-talks.aspx?pageID=238&nID=105355&NewsCatID=510

“Justice Minister Bekir Bozda?, accompanied by lawmakers from opposition parties, departed to the United States on Oct. 25 to hold talks on Turkey’s demand for the extradition of Fethullah Gülen, the Pennsylvania-based Islamic preacher accused of orchestrating the failed July 15 military coup.

“Our relations with the U.S. should not be damaged because of a terrorist,” Bozda? said before he left Turkey, adding that he will introduce new evidence to his U.S. counterparts for the extradition of Gülen.

“What we want is to not bring ties between the U.S. and Turkey to a negative point just because of a terrorist … Whatever Osama Bin Laden means for the U.S., Fethullah Gülen means for Turkey,” he added.

“For us, the file includes more than enough evidence for [Gülen’s] extradition to Turkey. When you compare the extradition and provisional arrest requests made of Turkey to date – not only by the U.S. but also all other countries – the extradition file and the provisional arrest demand files for Gülen are the fullest in terms of validity,” Bozda? said.

He also recalled that Turkey has already submitted to U.S. officials four files and conveyed an official request for Gülen’s detention by the authorities…”

  36. Istanbul should be center of UN: President Erdo?an (hurriyetdailynews, Oct 25, 2016)
    http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/istanbul-should-be-center-of-un-president-erdogan.aspx?pageID=238&nID=105336&NewsCatID=338

“Istanbul should be the center of the United Nations, President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an has said in a written statement on the 71st year of its foundation.

After consistently increasing its contributions to the U.N. budget over recent years, Turkey has also been exerting strenuous efforts to turn Istanbul, which is located at the intersection of continents and civilizations, into a U.N. center, Erdo?an said, adding that Istanbul would accomplish the “U.N.’s mission and goals.”

“We believe that Istanbul, with its ancient history, cultural richness, strategic location and natural beauties, will provide critical contributions to the U.N.’s mission and goals as a center of the organization,” he said.

Repeating the phrase he often uses, Erdo?an said that “the world is bigger than five.”

“In line with our call that ‘the world is bigger than five,’ which I often stress, we will continue, on every platform, our support for a comprehensive reform of the U.N. that will ensure a fairer representation as well as a more democratic, transparent, effective and accountable functioning of the U.N. Security Council,” he said.

Noting Turkey had been “one of the staunchest advocates of the U.N. and the values it represents,” Erdo?an said the country “has assumed critical roles.”

“Turkey, which has been one of the staunchest advocates of the U.N. and the values it represents since the organization came into being, has assumed very critical roles on issues of vital importance such as the maintenance of global peace and security, mediation, development, humanitarian aid, environment, the alliance of civilizations and the like,” he said.

In his message, Erdo?an also commented on the issue of Syrian refugees that Turkey has been accepting.

“With the hospitality it has been showing toward 3 million refugees in the face of the humanitarian crises in Syria and Iraq, Turkey has become a voice of the global conscience. The first-ever World Humanitarian Summit hosted by Turkey on May 23-24 this year is a sign of our sensitivity regarding humanitarian tragedies. Coming together for the first time in the history in Istanbul, all the stakeholders of the humanitarian aid system took very important decisions during the summit. Our country is closely monitoring the results of this summit so as to ensure the implementation of the commitments made during the summit,” he also said.

“I hope that the works of the U.N. help bring peace and prosperity to our world, and mark U.N. Day with my most sincere feelings,” he said.”
