Clinton Foundation Donors Got Weapons Deals From Hillary Clinton’s State Department

Even by the standards of arms deals between the United States and Saudi Arabia, this one was enormous. A consortium of American defense contractors led by Boeing would deliver $29 billion worth of advanced fighter jets to the United States’ oil-rich ally in the Middle East.

Israeli officials were agitated, reportedly complaining to the Obama administration that this substantial enhancement to Saudi air power risked disrupting the region’s fragile balance of power. The deal appeared to collide with the State Department’s documented concerns about the repressive policies of the Saudi royal family.

But now, in late 2011, Hillary Clinton’s State Department was formally clearing the sale, asserting that it was in the national interest. At press conferences in Washington to announce the department’s approval, an assistant secretary of state, Andrew Shapiro, declared that the deal had been “a top priority” for Clinton personally. Shapiro, a longtime aide to Clinton since her Senate days, added that the “U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army have excellent relationships in Saudi Arabia.”

These were not the only relationships bridging leaders of the two nations. In the years before Hillary Clinton became secretary of state, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia contributed at least $10 million to the Clinton Foundation, the philanthropic enterprise she has overseen with her husband, former president Bill Clinton. Just two months before the deal was finalized, Boeing — the defense contractor that manufactures one of the fighter jets the Saudis were especially keen to acquire, the F-15 — contributed $900,000 to the Clinton Foundation, according to a company press release.

The Saudi deal was one of dozens of arms sales approved by Hillary Clinton’s State Department that placed weapons in the hands of governments that had also donated money to the Clinton family philanthropic empire, an International Business Times investigation has found.

Under Clinton’s leadership, the State Department approved $165 billion worth of commercial arms sales to 20 nations whose governments have given money to the Clinton Foundation, according to an IBTimes analysis of State Department and foundation data. That figure — derived from the three full fiscal years of Clinton’s term as Secretary of State (from October 2010 to September 2012) — represented nearly double the value of American arms sales made to the those countries and approved by the State Department during the same period of President George W. Bush’s second term.

The Clinton-led State Department also authorized $151 billion of separate Pentagon-brokered deals for 16 of the countries that donated to the Clinton Foundation, resulting in a 143 percent increase in completed sales to those nations over the same time frame during the Bush administration. These extra sales were part of a broad increase in American military exports that accompanied Obama’s arrival in the White House. The 143 percent increase in U.S. arms sales to Clinton Foundation donors compares to an 80 percent increase in such sales to all countries over the same time period.

American defense contractors also donated to the Clinton Foundation while Hillary Clinton was secretary of state and in some cases made personal payments to Bill Clinton for speaking engagements. Such firms and their subsidiaries were listed as contractors in $163 billion worth of Pentagon-negotiated deals that were authorized by the Clinton State Department between 2009 and 2012.

The State Department formally approved these arms sales even as many of the deals enhanced the military power of countries ruled by authoritarian regimes whose human rights abuses had been criticized by the department. Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Qatar all donated to the Clinton Foundation and also gained State Department clearance to buy caches of American-made weapons even as the department singled them out for a range of alleged ills, from corruption to restrictions on civil liberties to violent crackdowns against political opponents.

As secretary of state, Hillary Clinton also accused some of these countries of failing to marshal a serious and sustained campaign to confront terrorism. In a December 2009 State Department cable published by Wikileaks, Clinton complained of “an ongoing challenge to persuade Saudi officials to treat terrorist financing emanating from Saudi Arabia as a strategic priority.” She declared that “Qatar’s overall level of CT cooperation with the U.S. is considered the worst in the region.” She said the Kuwaiti government was “less inclined to take action against Kuwait-based financiers and facilitators plotting attacks.” She noted that “UAE-based donors have provided financial support to a variety of terrorist groups.” All of these countries donated to the Clinton Foundation and received increased weapons export authorizations from the Clinton-run State Department.

Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign and the Clinton Foundation did not respond to questions from the IBTimes.

In all, governments and corporations involved in the arms deals approved by Clinton’s State Department have delivered between $54 million and $141 million to the Clinton Foundation as well as hundreds of thousands of dollars in payments to the Clinton family, according to foundation and State Department records. The Clinton Foundation publishes only a rough range of individual contributors’ donations, making a more precise accounting impossible.

    Winning Friends, Influencing Clintons

Under federal law, foreign governments seeking State Department clearance to buy American-made arms are barred from making campaign contributions — a prohibition aimed at preventing foreign interests from using cash to influence national security policy. But nothing prevents them from contributing to a philanthropic foundation controlled by policymakers.

Just before Hillary Clinton became Secretary of State, the Clinton Foundation signed an agreement generally obligating it to disclose to the State Department increases in contributions from its existing foreign government donors and any new foreign government donors. Those increases were to be reviewed by an official at the State Department and “as appropriate” the White House counsel’s office. According to available disclosures, officials at the State Department and White House raised no issues about potential conflicts related to arms sales.

During Hillary Clinton’s 2009 Senate confirmation hearings, Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Ind., urged the Clinton Foundation to “forswear” accepting contributions from governments abroad. “Foreign governments and entities may perceive the Clinton Foundation as a means to gain favor with the secretary of state,” he said. The Clintons did not take Lugar’s advice. In light of the weapons deals flowing to Clinton Foundation donors, advocates for limits on the influence of money on government action now argue that Lugar was prescient in his concerns.

“The word was out to these groups that one of the best ways to gain access and influence with the Clintons was to give to this foundation,” said Meredith McGehee, policy director at the Campaign Legal Center, an advocacy group that seeks to tighten campaign finance disclosure rules. “This shows why having public officials, or even spouses of public officials, connected with these nonprofits is problematic.”

Hillary Clinton’s willingness to allow those with business before the State Department to finance her foundation heightens concerns about how she would manage such relationships as president, said Lawrence Lessig, the director of Harvard University’s Safra Center for Ethics.

“These continuing revelations raise a fundamental question of judgment,” Lessig told IBTimes. “Can it really be that the Clintons didn’t recognize the questions these transactions would raise? And if they did, what does that say about their sense of the appropriate relationship between private gain and public good?”

National security experts assert that the overlap between the list of Clinton Foundation donors and those with business before the the State Department presents a troubling conflict of interest.

While governments and defense contractors may not have made donations to the Clinton Foundation exclusively to influence arms deals, they were clearly “looking to build up deposits in the ‘favor bank’ and to be well thought of,” said Gregory Suchan, a 34-year State Department veteran who helped lead the agency’s oversight of arms transfers under the Bush administration.

As Hillary Clinton presses a campaign for the presidency, she has confronted sustained scrutiny into her family’s personal and philanthropic dealings, along with questions about whether their private business interests have colored her exercise of public authority. As IBTimes previously reported, Clinton switched from opposing an American free trade agreement with Colombia to supporting it after a Canadian energy and mining magnate with interests in that South American country contributed to the Clinton Foundation. IBTimes’ review of the Clintons’ annual financial disclosures also revealed that 13 companies lobbying the State Department paid Bill Clinton $2.5 million in speaking fees while Hillary Clinton headed the agency.

Questions about the nexus of arms sales and Clinton Foundation donors stem from the State Department’s role in reviewing the export of American-made weapons. The agency is charged with both licensing direct commercial sales by U.S. defense contractors to foreign governments and also approving Pentagon-brokered sales to those governments. Those powers are enshrined in a federal law that specifically designates the secretary of state as “responsible for the continuous supervision and general direction of sales” of arms, military hardware and services to foreign countries. In that role, Hillary Clinton was empowered to approve or reject deals for a broad range of reasons, from national security considerations to human rights concerns.

The State Department does not disclose which individual companies are involved in direct commercial sales, but its disclosure documents reveal that countries that donated to the Clinton Foundation saw a combined $75 billion increase in authorized commercial military sales under the three full fiscal years Clinton served, as compared to the first three full fiscal years of Bush’s second term.

The Clinton Foundation has not released an exact timetable of its donations, making it impossible to know whether money from foreign governments and defense contractors came into the organization before or after Hillary Clinton approved weapons deals that involved their interests. But news reports document that at least seven foreign governments that received State Department clearance for American arms did donate to the Clinton Foundation while Hillary Clinton was serving as secretary: Algeria, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Thailand, Norway and Australia.

Sales Flowed Despite Human Rights Concerns

Under a presidential policy directive signed by President Bill Clinton in 1995, the State Department is supposed to specifically take human rights records into account when deciding whether to approve licenses enabling foreign governments to purchase military equipment and services from American companies. Despite this, Hillary Clinton’s State Department increased approvals of such sales to nations that her agency sharply criticized for systematic human rights abuses.

In its 2010 Human Rights Report, Clinton’s State Department inveighed against Algeria’s government for imposing “restrictions on freedom of assembly and association” tolerating “arbitrary killing,” “widespread corruption,” and a “lack of judicial independence.” The report said the Algerian government “used security grounds to constrain freedom of expression and movement.”

That year, the Algerian government donated $500,000 to the Clinton Foundation and its lobbyists met with the State Department officials who oversee enforcement of human rights policies. Clinton’s State Department the next year approved a one-year 70 percent increase in military export authorizations to the country. The increase included authorizations of almost 50,000 items classified as “toxicological agents, including chemical agents, biological agents and associated equipment” after the State Department did not authorize the export of any of such items to Algeria in the prior year.

During Clinton’s tenure, the State Department authorized at least $2.4 billion of direct military hardware and services sales to Algeria — nearly triple such authorizations over the last full fiscal years during the Bush administration. The Clinton Foundation did not disclose Algeria’s donation until this year — a violation of the ethics agreement it entered into with the Obama administration.

The monarchy in Qatar had similarly been chastised by the State Department for a raft of human rights abuses. But that country donated to the Clinton Foundation while Hillary Clinton was running the State Department. During the three full budgetary years of her tenure, Qatar saw a 14-fold increase in State Department authorizations for direct commercial sales of military equipment and services, as compared to the same time period in Bush’s second term. The department also approved the Pentagon’s separate $750 million sale of multi-mission helicopters to Qatar. That deal would additionally employ as contractors three companies that have all supported the Clinton Foundation over the years: United Technologies, Lockheed Martin and General Electric.

Clinton foundation donor countries that the State Department criticized for human rights violations and that received weapons export authorizations did not respond to IBTimes’ questions.

That group of arms manufacturers — along with Clinton Foundation donors Boeing, Honeywell, Hawker Beechcraft and their affiliates — were together listed as contractors in 114 such deals while Clinton was secretary of state. NBC put Chelsea Clinton on its payroll as a network correspondent in November 2011, when it was still 49 percent owned by General Electric. A spokesperson for General Electric did not respond to questions from IBTimes.

  3. Zineb el Rhazoui, Charlie Hebdo survivor, discusses why the world needs to ‘Destroy Islamic Fascism’

Undeterred by fatwas and death threats, the author has released an incendiary and thoughtful new book, bound to provoke debate

“We need to admit that Islamism today is applied Islam,

“When we apply Islam to the letter it gives Islamism, and when we apply Islamism to the letter it gives terrorism. So we need to stop saying Islam is a religion of peace and love. What is a moderate Islamist? An Islamist who doesn’t kill?”

[…]The notion of Islamophobia doesn’t even exist in Muslim countries, the author points out, because outside the West, criticism of the religion or Mohammed is officially “categorized as blasphemy.”

“Unable to pass blasphemy laws in Europe, groups like the CCIF employ a dangerous “semantic confusion,” she said. On the CCIF site it is written “Islamophobia is not an opinion: it is an offense.”

[…]“You can no longer speak about Islam without saying it’s a religion of peace and love. But when you open any book in Islam what do you find? Violence, blood, oppression of women and hate for other religions.

[…]“The literary corpus of Islam is so stuffed with damning accounts it would be difficult to cleanse it without altering the fundamentals of dogma,” El Rhazoui writes.

  4. British Peer: Polygamy ‘Commonplace’ Within Muslim Communities in Britain (breitbart, Oct 18, 2016)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2016/10/18/british-peer-polygamy-commonplace-british-muslims/

“Polygamy is “commonplace” within Muslim communities in Britain, with husbands fathering as many as 20 children by four wives, a Peer has said. She has called for a change in the law so that Muslim women know their rights under British law not to be discriminated against.
Although it has long been recognised that polygamy occurs in Muslim communities, it is typically seen as very rare.

But in a statement delivered to a conference on Islam in the UK on Sunday, Baroness Cox, a cross-bench member of the house of Lords, told the audience that polygamy in some communities is “commonplace” and that, as the marriages are Islamic ceremonies which have no legal status in British law, women who find themselves in polygamous marriages are being left without any rights.

Furthermore, the situation is being enabled by the acceptance of sharia councils in the UK, which Baroness Cox called a “parallel legal system”.

She explained: “Under sharia law, a husband is entitled to up to four wives providing he takes responsibility for making appropriate provision for all. In many Muslim communities in this country, polygamy is commonplace although as a nation bigamy is legally forbidden.”

She added: “Many [women] in polygamous marriages have said their husbands failed to provide financial support. Some were not even aware they were being married into polygamous relationships. Many are desperately unhappy.”

Cox has spoken to a number of British women in polygamous relationships herself in a bid to gain a clearer picture of the challenges they face. She describes a situation in which men are taking multiple wives, having numerous children, and are not providing for them.

She said: “Several Muslim women have told me that men in their communities may each have up to 20 children. This clearly paves the way for children growing up in dysfunctional families, who may become very vulnerable to marginalisation and potential radicalisation.”

Cox further pointed as evidence to a 2014 study in which 50 women living in Muslim communities in the West Midlands were interviewed about their experiences. It gives a glimpse into how widespread the issue is.

Of the 50 women interviewed, 46 were in current marriages. Of those, the report states, “two thirds of those who identified as being married (31 of 46) said their husband has more than one wife.”

Four of the women said their husband has three wives in total, and three women said their husband has four wives in total.

The report continues: “Islamic law requires that a man who chooses to have more than one wife must be able to support all of his wives. However, of the women who said their husband has more than one wife, nearly all (27 of 31) said their husband does not support them financially. Of these women, three quarters (21 of 27) rely on state benefits.”

The report includes anonymous testimonies, including from a 32-year-old woman who told the researcher: “…I found out afterwards that he had three more wives and he is still married to them. He lives with me but refuses to pay for anything. I live in his house that he bought but I claim benefits on it to pay his mortgage.”

Baroness Cox has introduced a Private Members Bill in Parliament to amend the law so that sharia courts cannot be used to discriminate against British Muslim women by denying them the same rights enjoyed by other British citizens.

But although the Bill received widespread support from all sides of the House, Cox said it “was opposed by the government on the grounds that every citizen has full and free access to the laws of the land.

“As I have already said this is manifestly untrue as many vulnerable Muslim women are ignorant of their legal rights and may live in very close communities with tremendous pressure from families not to seek outside professional help, which would bring shame on the community.”

She added: “All my concerns are based on first hand testimonies from Muslim women, and those committed to try and help them.

“One woman told me “I feel betrayed by Britain. I came here to get away from this and the situation is worse here than in the country I came from.”

Cox is encouraging women who have been discriminated against to come forward, “to challenge our government to take appropriate measures to ensure protection for all citizens of our country, the promotion of the human rights of all people, especially vulnerable girls and women, and the punishment of all who break our laws”.”

  5. Fury at ‘soft checks’ on child migrants: Adults pretending to be children say aid workers (express, Oct 19, 2016)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/722707/Calais-Jungle-child-migrants-UK-adults-pretending

“ANGER erupted last night over a lack of checks to stop Calais Jungle migrants posing as children to get to Britain.

“Lax” Home Office rules were said to be letting in “hulking young men” instead of those genuinely in need of sanctuary.

Officials yesterday admitted the arrivals are being given asylum without any proper medical checks on their age because they are considered “intrusive”.

As more arrived in Britain yesterday, the Home Office said they are given the “benefit of the doubt” if their age is in question.

Tory MP David Davies said: “They are giving hospitality to hulking young men. I think we have been taken for a ride once again.”

Giving migrants the benefit of the doubt was “wrong”, said the MP for Monmouth, adding: “It is absolutely certain some people do lie about their age. We should start from the principle people will do or say anything to get into the UK.”

Britain is allowing in children from the Calais Jungle before it is demolished by the French.

The first 14 arrived on Monday and it is thought as many as 400 could end up being given a new home in the UK.

The “children” who have been allowed in from northern France were joining relatives already in Britain, the Home Office said.

It insisted all had undergone rigorous interviews and checks on documents to try to prove they were under 18.

Their appearance is also used to see if migrants look as young as they claim. But they are only rejected if they are clearly over 18.

Extensive medical tests, including examining dental records, have been ruled out as too “intrusive”.

Home Office guidance on age assessment says: “Applicants whose age has not been accepted by the agency will initially be afforded the benefit of the doubt and be treated as children.”

A spokesman said: “The priority in this process is to safeguard the children and reunite them with families in the UK.”

Immigration rules state asylum claims must be made in the first safe country a person reaches.

But children can have their application transferred to another country if they have family ties there.

Yesterday the Daily Express twice asked the Home Office whether it receives “credible and clear documentary evidence” to prove child migrants’ claimed ages.

A spokesman said the department “would not comment on specific cases” and said the total number of children allowed in would only be revealed once all had arrived.

Mr Davies added: “I worry that just by accepting their word we are putting other people at risk. The UK has set a very dangerous precedent. Anyone in their 20s or 30s can head to Calais, say they are 15 and claim to have relatives in the UK. It is almost certain some are economic migrants.”

Even volunteers working in the Jungle camp said the vetting process is so shambolic vulnerable children are being left behind in the chaos.

One said: “It is a complete mess. Those at the front of the queue are not the most needy and vulnerable – they are the adults pretending to be children.”

Daily Express columnist and former shadow home secretary Ann Widdecombe said: “The process is extremely lax and it always has been. Common sense would say a lot of them are not kids.”

The Home Office went on to explain: “All individuals are referred to the UK authorities by the France terre d’asile (FTDA) and then interviewed by French and UK officials. Where credible and clear documentary evidence of age is not available, criteria including physical appearance and demeanour are used as part of the interview process to assess age.”

    • A man was found dead in the back of a lorry yesterday on the A20 in Sellindge, Kent, after suffocating during the journey from Calais.”

  6. Two thirds of ‘child’ refugees coming into Britain are actually ADULTS (express, Oct 19, 2016)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/722698/Two-thirds-of-child-refugees-coming-into-Britain-are-actually-ADULTS

“ALMOST two-thirds of ‘child’ refugees questioned about their age were found to be adults, Home Office documents show.

Figures from the documents suggest that in the year ending September 2015, 65 per cent of the refugees who had their age disputed were found to be over 18, although the Home Office has no way of independently verifying their age.

Instead, the documents show that if a refugee is without their birth certificate, a Home Office screening officer will certify them as a child based on their “physical appearance” or “demeanour”.

The news comes after Conservative MPs yesterday questioned the ages of the 14 refugees who were brought to the UK from the Calais ‘Jungle’ migrant camp.

David Davies, the Tory MP for Monmouth, called for all refugees entering the UK to undergo rigorous checks to establish their age, such as dental investigations or X-rays.

He said: “It’s pretty obvious that migrants who are willing to risk jumping on moving lorries are not going to shy away from lying about their ages.

“We have to verify the ages independently with a test.”….”

    • Home Office rules out ‘unethical’ dental checks for Calais refugees

Department says dental checks to verify age of young refugees hoping to settle in UK would be ‘inaccurate and inappropriate’

The Home Office has ruled out dental x-ray checks to verify the age of Calais refugees arriving in Britain, criticising them as “inaccurate, inappropriate and unethical”.

The official rejection of the demand from Conservative backbenchers was welcomed by the British Dental Association, which had earlier condemned the proposal as inappropriate and inaccurate.

“We do not use dental x-rays to confirm the ages of those seeking asylum in the UK,” said a Home Office spokesperson.

“We work closely with the French authorities and their partner agencies to ensure all those who come to the UK from the camps in Calais are eligible under the Dublin regulations.

“All individuals are referred to the UK authorities by the France Terre d’Asile [charity] and are then interviewed by French and UK officials. Where credible and clear documentary evidence of age is not available, criteria including physical appearance and demeanour are used as part of the interview process to assess age.”

Home Office officials say that once refugee children have arrived in Britain they are fingerprinted as part of further identity checks. There is also the option of requesting a further local authority age assessment, which must be case law-compliant and approved by two social workers.

[…]“The children we work with have experienced massive trauma, fleeing their homes and living for months in dangerous conditions in Calais. Those who have experienced such hardship often look older than their years.”

Correct Way of Shaving Pubic Hair

Ibn Muflih (may Allaah have mercy upon him) said in Al-Aadaab Ash-Shar'iyyah (the religious etiquettes): 'It is disliked to delay shaving the pubic hair, plucking out armpit hair and trimming one's moustache more than the stated period.' The stated period is forty days as Imaam Muslim(may Allaah have mercy upon him) reported that Anas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: "The period that was prescribed for us to trim our moustache, clip our nails, pluck out our armpit hair and shave our pubic hair is forty days." Of course it was the Prophet Sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) who determined for them this period of forty days, so it is disliked to leave them longer than this period of time.

[...]There are reports in the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) which indicate that the pubic hairs should be removed, as it was reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The fitrah consists of five things, one of which is removing the pubic hairs.” (Reported by al-Bukhaari).

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) also set a time limit of forty days, and the hair should be left any longer than that, because of the hadeeth of Anas ibn Maalik (may Allaah be pleased with him), who said: “He set us a time limit of no more than forty days for trimming the moustache, clipping the nails, plucking the armpit hairs and shaving the pubic hair.” (Reported by al-Bukhaari, 10/284 and Muslim, 1/222).

[...]The reasons behind removing this dirty hair could also be applied to the hair on the testicles and around the anus, if impurity (najaasah) gets attached to it, because the purpose it to be comepletly clean and pure and keep away from anything that may cause dirt and impurities to cling to the body. In this case, removing this hair is a good thing. With the regard to women, the rulings on removing the pubic hair are the same as the rulings for men. And Allaah knows best.

Monday’s attack on Gashigar, on the border with Niger, is the third reported direct attack on the military after months of a lull during which the Islamic extremists hit soft civilian targets.

Army spokesman Col. Sani Kukasheka Usman called the attack a “temporary setback” committed by “remnants of Boko Haram” that forced the soldiers to retreat. He says an operation is in progress to find the missing troopers and “clear the Boko Haram terrorists at the general area.”

It is believed such attacks are the work of a faction of Boko Haram that calls itself the West Africa Province of the Islamic State.”

It’s especially hard to come back to the secular world right now. It would be so easy to curl up in an isolated community, an archaic lifestyle bubble. I’ll be sorely tempted if things go bad in November.

      • Missed you too, welcome back for however long you are going to be here.

Vote and get a lot of people to vote.

I keep hearing more and more people say that the polls don’t reflect what they see in the communities they live in or visit. Pay close attention to those statements. They keep coming in frm all across the nation so there is reason to be upbeat.

  10. Wikileaks Releases Another 1,803 Podesta Emails In Part 12 Of Data Dump; Total Is Now 18,953

The daily dump continues. In the now traditional daily routine, one which forces the Clinton campaign to resort to ever more stark sexual scandals involving Trump to provide a media distraction, moments ago Wikileaks released yet another 1,803 emails in Part 12 of its ongoing Podesta Email dump, which brings the total number of released emails to 18,953.

As a reminder among the most recent revelations we got further insights into Hillary’s desire to see Obamacare “unravel”, her contempt for “doofus” Bernie Sanders, staff exchanges on handling media queries about Clinton “flip-flopping” on gay marriage, galvanizing Latino support and locking down Clinton’s healthcare policy. Just as notable has been the ongoing revelation of just how “captured” the so-called independent press has been in its “off the record” discussions with John Podesta which got the head Politico correspondent, Glenn Thrush, to admit he is a “hack” for allowing Podesta to dictate the content of his article.

The release comes on the day of the third and final presidential campaign between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, and as a result we are confident it will be scrutinized especially carefully for any last minute clues that would allow Trump to lob a much needed Hail Mary to boost his standing in the polls.

As there is a total of 50,000 emails, Wikileaks will keep the media busy over the next three weeks until the elections with another 30,000 emails still expected to be released.

One of the initially notable emails is the close relationship between the Clinton Foundation and Ukraine billionaire Victor Pinchuk, a prominent donor to the Clinton Foundation, in which we see the latter’s attempt to get a meeting with Bill Clinton to show support for Ukraine:

    • Soros Ran US Foreign Policy on Post-Coup Ukraine

A tranche of some 2500 Internal documents, mostly Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point files, as well as pdf files, from George Soros’s Open Society Foundation (OSF) network of non-governmental organizations, which were obtained from the group «DC Leaks», shows that Soros and his advisers lorded over US policy toward Ukraine after the 2014 coup supported by Soros and the Obama administration ousted the democratically-elected Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych and his government. The leaked Soros documents describe how the OSF and Soros’s International Renaissance Foundation (IRF), based at 46 Artema Street in Kiev, worked with the US State Department after the 2014 so-called «Euromaidan» themed revolution to ensure that a federalized Ukraine was not in the picture.
      […]
It is the degree to which Soros provided finances, logistics, and other support to the Ukrainian coup plotters in 2012, two years before the Euromaidan uprising, that is noteworthy. OSF and its affiliates provided entire buildings, office space, computers, software, broadband Internet, videoconferencing equipment, vehicles, travel to the United States, and other material for the Euromaidan uprising. This was all done with the cooperation of the US and Swedish embassies in Kiev, USAID, the Carnegie Endowment, the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), and the Central Intelligence Agency-linked National Endowment for Democracy (NED).

Investigative journalists were also sought by the Soros gang to travel to Ukraine and submit articles that had to be approved by Soros operatives before publication. One major collaborator of Soros and the United States in pushing Ukrainian propaganda was identified as the Hromadske Television, which was singled out for its work to counter «Russian propaganda».

[…] Names specific newspapers, propaganda memes.

Soros is one of the closest advisers and financiers of Hillary Clinton. The leaked Soros documents describe how the Clinton Global Initiative and Soros Foundation cooperates on undermining the sovereignty of nations around the world, including those in Europe. And that relationship should weigh heavily on every American voter on November 8.

  11. Top Indiana election official alleges more voter fraud
    John Tuohy , jo********@******ar.com 6:50 a.m. EDT October 19, 2016
Another election official says that may be a hasty conclusion

As Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump repeats his message that the general election process is “rigged,” the top election official in the home state of his running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, said she has found thousands more incidents of what she characterized as potential “voter fraud.”

Republican Secretary of State Connie Lawson said her office has found voter registration forms containing first names and birth dates different from what voters provided. She said she has handed those altered records over to the Indiana State Police for review.

However, a leading election official in Hamilton County, also a Republican, said labeling the discrepancies as fraud was a hasty conclusion.

Security forces thwarted a terrorist attempting a stabbing attack against IDF soldiers at the Tapuah Junction in the West Bank on Wednesday.

No Israelis were wounded in the attack. The terrorist, a 19-year-old Palestinian woman, was shot and killed by security forces.

According to police, a woman approached Border Police officers at Tapuah Junction, failing to heed their warnings to stop. She then pulled out a knife attempting to stab the officers.

The officers opened fire on the woman, killing her.

Tapuah Junction was partially closed off following the incident,

Shomron Regional Council chief Yossi Dagan said following the attack that “this additional attempt to hurt the routine of our lives, not to mention that it comes during one of our holidays, will not succeed.”

Dagan thanked security forces for their response to the attack. He said that activities for tourists in the Shomron region would continue as planned.

“The tens of thousands of day trippers who are currently at the great many tourist attractions in the Shomron are making their voices heard with their legs,” he said.”

The fight probably started because of a remark towards a newly arrived Afghan migrant by two Iraqi citizens (Iraqis or Kurds), inside the center, and then it was transferred outside. Their countrymen just couldn’t help attacking each other too.
According to unofficial information, migrants in the center already are 4000.

William Hill slashes odds on Trump victory amid betting patterns eerily reminiscent of those seen in the lead up to the EU referendum

It is news that will strike fear into the hearts of perhaps half of America and large chunks of the world outside of it.

Despite a calamitous week of campaigning, betting markets on the US election are almost a mirror image of those on Britain’s EU referendum at this stage. And they could be pointing to a victory for Donald Trump.

Bookmaker William Hill says 71 per cent of the money so far staked is for Democrat Hillary Clinton. But 65 per cent of the bets by number are for the controversial Republican.

  15. Philippines anti-US protesters rammed by police van

A police van has rammed protesters in the Philippines capital Manila as a demonstration outside the US embassy turned violent.

Footage showed protesters surrounding the van and hitting it with batons taken from police. The vehicle then drives into the crowd several times, injuring a number of people.

Hundreds had met to demand the US end its military presence in the country.

President Rodrigo Duterte has queried long-standing ties with the US.

    Duterte in China: Conciliator-in-chief?

Police arrested at least 23 people, who threw red paint at them and a member of the US forces at the embassy.

Tear gas was used against the demonstrators, after they broke through a line of riot police. They also took control of the water hose of a fire truck being used to douse them and threw stones at police.

It remains unclear how many people were injured by the police van and how serious their injuries are.

Television footage of the incident shows the van driving into people at speed. At one point it knocks over a woman and drags her body along the road. The van brakes and she appears to scramble away.

  16. White House plans community-based prevention of violent ideologies

A new White House plan aims to convene teachers and mental health professionals to intervene and help prevent Americans from turning to violent ideologies, work that is currently mostly done by law enforcement, a draft of the policy seen by Reuters shows.

The 18-page plan, to be announced on Wednesday, marks the first time in five years that the Obama administration has updated its policy for preventing the spread of violent groups. Authorities blamed radical and violent ideologies as the motives for attacks in the last year in Charleston, South Carolina; San Bernardino, California; Orlando, Florida; New York and New Jersey.

A self-styled white supremacist is accused of shooting dead nine black people inside a historic African-American church in Charleston and the other shootings and bombs were inspired by Islamist militants.

  17. U.S. and Russia meet in Geneva on Aleppo

GENEVA (Reuters) – Senior U.S. and Russian officials held talks on Wednesday aimed at agreeing on how to separate al Qaeda-linked militants from rebel fighters in the besieged Syrian city of Aleppo so as to pave the way for a ceasefire.

U.S. special envoy for Syria Michael Ratney led Washington’s delegation, while Moscow sent military experts whose names were not released.

They were joined by officials from regional powers such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar, but not Syria’s ally Iran which was not invited, a Western diplomat said. The Syrian warring sides themselves were not at the table.

“The idea is to engage the Russians in a discussion on the issue,” the Western diplomat said before the meeting held at the U.N. European headquarters in Geneva.

The talks follow a meeting between the United States and its allies on Tuesday that aimed to coordinate efforts toward a new ceasefire, after Russia unexpectedly announced it had halted air strikes on Aleppo.

  18. This article is about the US and our political parties but it applies to all western nations.

The reason the Republican Party is in disarray
    By J.E. Dyer October 18, 2016

A lot of people are circling around this question right now, and I’m not going to open this post by summarizing their theses or referencing their arguments. You can find them without much of an effort.

It’s too important to drive straight through to the main proposition.

The GOP is in disarray because the problems of the Republic can no longer be addressed by the conventional politics of the Republic. The problems are too big, too deep, too entrenched. They arise from the excessive power ceded to government over the last 100 years. Social divisions are not the driving issue here. The problems are created by government. If government were not at work, intrusive in our lives, raising the stakes of every source of social conflict and actively fostering social conflict, it would be amazing how much less social conflict we would have.

We have a basic systemic dysfunction now. The Constitution is no longer an effective bulwark against bad behavior by government. Period. There may be situational caveats to put on that point, but in too many areas of government activity, it’s an absolute condition.

    • Leftist Greeks support “the poor and the opressed” to a great extent because they believe that the poor – that is also them, the Greeks. They have nothing against these people living at the expense of the German taxpayers, because for them this is the natural order of things – let the rich pay for the “poor”.
That Greece is a rich country compared to most of the world is something that hasn’t occured to them. Or that once they get rid of these masses others will come…

  19. Should Clinton aide be removed after FBI revelations?

Fox News contributor Scott Brown and ‘Justice’ host Judeg Jeanine discuss the allegations

  20. Memo: Google’s Eric Schmidt Working Directly With the Clinton Campaign

Eric Schmidt, the chief executive of Alphabet, Google’s parent company, is working directly with Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, according to a memo contained within an email released by WikiLeaks.

“Discreet conservations” of forming “working relationships” with companies such as Facebook and Apple were also facilitated as early as October 2014, the memo stated. This is at least six months prior to when Clinton announced her candidacy for president.

The document was attached to an Oct. 26, 2014 email sent from Robby Mook, now Clinton’s campaign manager, to Cheryl Mills, a longtime Clinton aide; David Plouffe, Barack Obama’s previous campaign manager; and John Podesta, Clinton’s current campaign chairman whose email account was compromised.

The email was posted to Wikileaks after hackers believed to be working with the Russian government breached Podesta’s email account.

Teddy Goff, now a digital strategist for the Clinton campaign who is the former digital director for Obama’s reelection campaign, wrote the memo, which was addressed to Clinton. It touched base on “Technology and digital priorities.”

Goff began by listing “priorities” for the Clinton digital team to undertake. In his estimation—in order of importance—these included: “Raising lots of money,” “Creating and distributing excellent content, for both supportive and persuadable audiences, on social and paid media and in videos,” and “Recruiting, engaging, and organizing volunteers and prospective volunteers.”

Goff then provided an update on these developments. Within this section, he repeatedly referenced the work “Eric Schmidt’s group” and “team” is performing. The Washington Free Beacon reported last week that John Podesta emailed Schmidt in April 2014 to set up meetings with Cheryl Mills and Robby Mook.

“I have been kept apprised of the work being done by Eric Schmidt’s group and others working directly and indirectly with your team. On the whole, I am comfortable with where we stand and confident in our roadmap to launch day and beyond,” Goff wrote.

Goff wrote that they have selected a team of developers unaffiliated with Schmidt to build the front end of Clinton’s website.

“They are apprised of what Eric is building but not dependent on it, having identified commercially available products for all mission-critical functions in the event Eric’s group is delayed or otherwise derailed,” he wrote.

“We have instructed Eric’s team to build the most important products in their portfolio—specifically, the back-end of the website, the ability to accept donations (along with associated features, most importantly the ability to store credit card information), and the ability to acquire email addresses—first,” Goff says. “Given how much time remains between now and launch—and, again, the availability of alternative solutions—I believe there is effectively no chance that these core functionalities will not be in place in time for launch.”

Goff continued by saying that he is confident that the digital infrastructure they are building will be far more advanced than those of any challengers in either political party:

Eric’s team is also developing products that are not, strictly speaking, critical for launch, but would be extremely useful to have as early in the cycle as possible. Chief among these is the system that consolidates data from disparate sources to allow you to develop more complete user profiles and therefore more effective programs. I shared the concern, voiced by many, that the initial scope for these products was overly ambitious and unrealistic; they have since been cut down to a much more manageable size, without sacrificing core functionalities. (Of note, many of the problems that stifled us in 2012 have since been tackled by private companies with whom we have relationships and whose tools we can license rather than attempt to replicate.) I am cautiously optimistic that the most important of these will be completed in time for launch; if they are delayed, I have no reason to believe they will not be ready shortly thereafter, long before potential challengers in either party will have been able to build anything similar.

Goff concluded by speaking of the importance of the campaign forming “working relationships” with the likes of Google, Apple, Facebook, and other technology companies.

“We have begun having discreet conversations with some of these companies to get a sense of their priorities for the coming cycle, but would encourage you, as soon as your technology leadership is in place, to initiate more formal discussions,” he wrote.

While the exact Schmidt-backed group is not named within the memo, Schmidt has provided funding to a tech startup called The Groundwork, which is paid by Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

Michael Slaby, the former chief integration and innovation officer for the Obama campaign, developed The Groundwork through a company he co-founded called Timshel. Slaby has been tight-lipped about details of its partnership with the Clinton campaign. The group has been paid nearly $600,000 from Hillary for America since its inception.

Google has also been accused of manipulating search results to favor Hillary Clinton earlier this year.

Schmidt did not return a request for comment on the memo. Clinton’s campaign did not immediately respond to inquiries.

  21. Czech police arrest Russian man in connection with US hacking attacks

PRAGUE (Reuters) – Czech police have detained a Russian man wanted in connection with hacking attacks on targets in the United States, the police said, without giving further details.

The arrest was carried out in cooperation with the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, Czech police said on their website on Tuesday (Oct 18) evening. Interpol had issued a so-called Red Notice for the man, seeking his arrest, they added.

The Russian citizen was detained at a Prague hotel. Police said he collapsed and was hospitalised. Czech courts will decide whether he will be extradited, the police said.

A police spokesman declined to give further details on the arrest. It was not immediately clear what hacking attacks the Russian citizen was wanted for.

The US government this month formally accused Russia for the first time of a campaign of cyber attacks against Democratic Party organizations ahead of the Nov 8 presidential election.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said a hacking scandal would not be in Russia’s interests.

    • NYT – Russian Hacker, Wanted by F.B.I., Is Arrested in Prague, Czechs Say

PRAGUE — A man identified as a Russian hacker suspected of pursuing targets in the United States has been arrested in the Czech Republic, the police announced Tuesday evening.

The suspect was captured in a raid at a hotel in central Prague on Oct. 5, about 12 hours after the authorities heard that he was in the country, where he drove around in a luxury car with his girlfriend, according to the police. The man did not resist arrest, but he had medical problems and was briefly hospitalized, the police said in a statement.

David Schön, a police spokesman, said on Wednesday that the arrest of the man, whose name has not been released, was not announced immediately “for tactical reasons.”

The police statement said that “the man was a Russian citizen suspected of hacking attacks on targets in the United States,” and that the raid was conducted in collaboration with the F.B.I. after Interpol issued an arrest warrant for him.

A judge in Prague has ordered the man to remain in custody, and a court will examine whether to extradite him to the United States. Neither the Czech authorities nor the F.B.I. would supply further details.

The Russian Embassy in Prague, however, called for the man to be released.

“We insist that the detained Russian citizen should be transferred to Russia,” the state-run Russian news agency Tass quoted Aleksei Kolmakov, the embassy’s spokesman, as saying.

Mr. Kolmakov said that the embassy had been notified about the detention, but that the Kremlin’s spokesman, Dmitri S. Peskov, had told the news website RBK that it did not have details about the man’s identity.

Jakub Janda, who studies the Russian government and is a deputy director of the European Values Think-Tank in Prague, said that the arrest served as confirmation that “the Czech Republic is so far considered a safe base for Russian intelligence and influence activities focused on Western targets.”

He added, “Prague is unofficially considered to be a springboard for some of Kremlin activities inside Europe, also using huge Russian diplomatic presence of approximately 140 staff.”

Mr. Janda also said that the arrest showed that “Western governments are waking up and finally considering hostile Russian intelligence and disinformation operations to be an open and urgent threat, even at the level of the U.S. administration.”

He added, “Open arrests of hostile individuals such as this one can serve as a deterrent element.”

The arrest came two days before the Obama administration formally accused the Russian government of stealing and disclosing emails from the Democratic National Committee and other institutions and prominent individuals.

The United States director of national intelligence, James R. Clapper Jr., said in a statement on Oct. 7 that high-level Russian officials were trying to interfere with American elections.

“The recent disclosures of alleged hacked emails on sites like DCLeaks.com and WikiLeaks and by the Guccifer 2.0 online persona are consistent with the methods and motivations of Russian-directed efforts,” Mr. Clapper said. “These thefts and disclosures are intended to interfere with the U.S. election process.”

Mr. Clapper said that “such activity is not new to Moscow,” and he accused Russia of using similar tactics across Europe to influence public opinion.

“We believe, based on the scope and sensitivity of these efforts,” he said, “that only Russia’s senior-most officials could have authorized these activities.”

The anti-secrecy organizations DCLeaks and WikiLeaks have been involved with the disclosures of illegally obtained emails from the hacked accounts of prominent figures including Colin L. Powell, the former secretary of state, and John D. Podesta, the chairman of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

Guccifer 2.0 is the assumed name of a Romanian “lone hacker” responsible for copying thousands of emails and other files from the Democratic National Committee, but experts are not certain if the hacker is a person or a front created by Russian intelligence officials.

It is not clear whether the arrest in Prague is related to the hackers Mr. Clapper described.

  22. German President hints Muslim politician could replace him

GERMANY’S president Joachim Gauck has hinted he could see a Muslim politician replacing him.

As he prepares to step down, citing his advancing years, Mr Gauck said: “I will not rule out for the future.”

But the president hinted he wanted a Muslim to succeed him.

The 76-year-old’s remarks are likely to create difficulties for the already embattled chancellor, Mrs Merkel, who is already facing an increasingly fractious debate over radical Islamism in Germany, sparked by her open door refugee policy.

Echoing his concerns, an MP for Mrs Merkel’s coalition government said people “will put up the wall by force” to this decision.

Christian Democratic (CDU) MP, Klaus-Peter Willsch added: “That is not good for our country.”

Mr Gauck’s successor will not be decided by a direct vote, but by the political parties, along with a congress including sports people, celebrities and other public figures.

Vice-President of the EU Parliament, Alexander Graf Lambsdorff, said he would welcome ”a mullah with a Turban” because it would “representative of modern, enlightened Islam”.

While, Social Democrats SPD leader Thomas Opperman added: “Whether a federal president is Christian, Muslim or Buddhist, it should not matter.

“It is crucial that the religion is not above the Constitution.”

But Germany has witnessed a dramatic changing attitude of the nation’s population towards the religion over the past year, which has seen the arrival of more than one million migrants.

CDU MP Karl- Georg Wellmann described the plans as “totally absurd”

He said: “That would not be appropriate in the current situation. This would only deepen the divisions in society. ”

Mr Gauck’s decision to step down has triggered a cross-party race for possible successors to be chosen less than six months before a 2017 General Election.

  23. Only Prison Can Save Gentle Giants from Police Shootings
Save our gentle giants, lock them up.

The Justice Department has taken a break from its ambitious program of freeing drug dealers and organizing race riots to continue its war on police with a database of police shootings. That way the community organizers of the DOJ’s Community Relations Service can know exactly which town or city to swoop in on in their snazzy sunglasses and windbreakers for another round of peaceful store lootings. And the DOJ’s best criminal advocates can know which police force to sue into dysfunctionality.

Sadly the DOJ has yet to figure out that its twin missions of freeing drug dealers and protecting them from being shot by police are in conflict. Drug dealers are least likely to be shot by police officers in the comfort and safety of their local penitentiary. They are most likely to be shot by police while on their way to their next transaction with underwear full of baggies of heroin and a stolen handgun.

The best way to prevent police shootings is with prison. A serious sentence keeps the gentle giants most likely to be shot by marauding police officers safe and comfortable at the prison gym.

  24. Big Brotherhood is Watching You
Why is the U.S. government only interested in partnering with the most radical Islamic groups?
    October 19, 2016
    William Kilpatrick
    20

According to pollster Frank Luntz’s audience meter, one of Hillary Clinton’s best moments in the first presidential debate was when she asserted that we need to cooperate with the Muslim community and not alienate them.

That makes sense, but only if you’re cooperating with the right people in the Muslim community. The trouble is, we’ve been cooperating with all the wrong people—namely, Muslim Brotherhood-linked groups such as the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA). These are not moderate Muslim groups. They are stealth jihad organizations whose ties to the Muslim Brotherhood were established in the 2008 Holy Land Foundation trial.

The Muslim Brotherhood, in turn, has been designated as a terrorist group by Egypt and the United Arab Emirates. And the UAE has also named CAIR—whose representatives are frequent visitors to the White House—as a terrorist group.

Our government has been doing community outreach to groups that ought to be highly suspect. In their book Muslim Mafia, authors Paul Sperry and David Gaubatz contend that CAIR operates like…well, like the Mafia. Instead of urging the Muslim community to cooperate with the authorities, CAIR has been instructing them not to cooperate. According to Jihad Watch, on two occasions CAIR chapters actually printed posters urging Muslims not to talk to the FBI. Like the Mafia, CAIR and similar Islamic organizations have worked to impose the omerta code on their fellow Muslims.

  25. The Hillary Virus
Corrupting our government, one agency at a time.

There is no shortage of serious issues swirling around Hillary Clinton that call into question her judgment, her integrity and, ultimately, her fitness to be the next president of the United States.

I have come to the conclusion that an excellent analog for Hillary would be a virus.

The term “virus” has been defined thusly:

    virus |?v?r?s|

    noun

1 an infective agent that typically consists of a nucleic acid molecule in a protein coat, is too small to be seen by light microscopy, and is able to multiply only within the living cells of a host: [ as modifier ] : a virus infection.

    • an infection or disease caused by a virus.

    • a harmful or corrupting influence: the virus of cruelty that is latent in all human beings.

2 (also computer virus) a piece of code that is capable of copying itself and typically has a detrimental effect, such as corrupting the system or destroying data.

As noted above, there are two basic forms of viruses, pathogens and computer viruses. Hillary acts as both a pathogen and a computer virus.

On Tuesday night, the Freedom Center’s Stop the Jew Hatred on Campus campaign targeted Jew-haters and terrorist-supporters at the University of Tennessee with posters exposing the links between Students for Justice in Palestine and the anti-Israel terror group Hamas. While the majority of schools to make our list of the “Top Ten Schools Supporting Terrorists” are located on the East or West coasts, Tennessee is a significant but deserving exception.

The University of Tennessee at Knoxville has a highly active SJP chapter that hosts annual Israeli Apartheid Weeks on campus to demonize the Jewish state. Numerous members of the chapter have shared pro-Hitler and pro-terrorist comments on social media including “Wish Hitler was still around to show you guys,” “You dirty filthy Jew,” and “Hitler had a lot of great ideas.” Slogans on their most recent “apartheid wall” included endorsements of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement and praise for terrorist violence against Israel.

UTK-SJP has also displayed the genocidal series of maps created by Hamas which falsely depict a mythical Arab Palestine in 1947 being overrun and colonized by Jews. In fact, there never was a nation named “Palestine” and Israel was founded on land which had belonged to the Turks (who are not Arabs) for the previous 400 years. UTK-SJP has hosted numerous anti-Israel speakers including BDS activist Allison Weir and pro-terrorist poet Remi Kanazi. UTK-SJP has also disrupted pro-Israel events on campus.

  27. Corpses ‘Exploding’ In Decrepit Venezuelan Hospitals
    Foreshadowing socialism’s final days.

It was one of the more macabre stories to emerge out of socialist Venezuela — and served as a metaphor for the final days of the rotting regime.

In a hospital morgue, a bloated corpse exploded.

The morgue’s barely functioning cooling system was to blame – hardly a surprise in the oil-rich yet impoverished nation whose health-care system has collapsed under the socialist government. Decomposing for two days in the tropical heat, the corpse finally exploded in a spray of toxic fluids and gasses. The ghastly incident earlier this month necessitated the partial evacuation of the hospital, University Hospital Antonio Patricio de Alcalá, located in Cumaná — a city of 825,000 in eastern Venezuela. Patients in nearby rooms and corridors were sickened to their stomachs by the stench.

“It’s not the first time that a body exploded,” a hospital employee told a Venezuelan media outlet. “It has already occurred two times since the middle of September.”

  28. Justice Sotomayor: I Fantasized About Hitting Scalia With A Baseball Bat

There’s an old adage that says, “Don’t speak ill of the dead.” Unfortunately, Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor didn’t get the memo.

In a speech to students at the University of Minnesota on Monday, the Leftist jurist shared her thoughts about hitting her now-deceased colleague with a baseball bat.

  29. Russian aircraft carrier passes Norway on way to Syria

A giant Russian aircraft carrier, a nuclear-powered battleship, and six other vessels passed the Norwegian island of Andøya on Monday on the way to Syria.
The Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier and the battleship Pyotr Velikiy were photographed by Norway’s Lockheed P-3 Orion surveillance aircraft.

According to the Norway’s VG newspaper, the mobilisation is “the biggest demonstration of Russian military power in the Norwegian Sea for several years”.

“For us in Norway, this is not a threat. But it is a reminder of a larger picture that we must take seriously, says General Morten Haga Lund, the head of the Norwegian Intelligence Service, told VG.

However, the size of the military reinforcements Russia is sending to Syria will raise questions over the sincerity of new peace talks Russia engaged in in Switzerland on Saturday.

The operation will the first combat engagement for a Russian or Soviet aircraft carrier.

Admiral Kuznetsov was launched in 1985 before the disintegration of the Soviet Union, but only became fully operational in 1995.

In 2000, it was involved in the attempt to rescue and salvage the Kursk submarine.

‘Turkish’ gunman opens fire in packed hair salon leaving several seriously injured

A GUNMAN opened fire in a crowded hair salon leaving one person with life threatening injuries before barricading himself into a nearby apartment, taking a woman hostage.

Heavily armed police arrived at the scene and discovered one man was already dead and a woman was critically injured – she has been airlifted to hospital.

The shooter, understood to be a 27-year-old Turkish man, is believed to have fired indiscriminately into the bustling hairdressers’ shop in Dueren, Germany.

Witnesses report the gunman entered the salon, shouted at a woman and then opened fire, leading regional police spokesperson Ulrich Braun to say: “This may be a crime of passions.”

German police say the attacker fled the scene and holed himself up in a nearby apartment, taking at least one person hostage.

Emergency services swarmed on the scene and stormed the building where they found one man, believed to be the shooter, dead.

Another woman was severely injured and is currently in intensive care at a nearby hospital.

A Dueren police spokeswoman said: “Shots were reported. A male suspect is in a building complex in the city center and he may have taken a hostage.

“We have no contact with him and are not aware of whether he has any demands.”

Much of Dueren city centre has been cordoned off by police.

One person died in a separate shooting 60 miles away earlier today.

The incident took place in Hagen, located about, German N-TV reports.

A man armed “with a sword or a long knife” was shot dead by police after refusing to drop his weapon.

The killer’s motives are not yet clear.

  31. N Y T -At Previous Debates, Melania Trump and Bill Clinton Shook Hands. Not Anymore.

This intensely antagonistic election has shattered another quaint campaign ritual: the handshakes between opposing candidates’ family members before a debate.

At previous debates, former President Bill Clinton has shaken the hand of Melania Trump — and sometimes the hands of the children of Donald J. Trump — as part of the predebate protocol.

It provides the audience in the room, and the people watching at home, with a moment of graciousness and a touch of celebrity.

But for the final debate, Hillary Clinton’s campaign wants a different setup, according to two people with direct knowledge of the situation who requested anonymity to speak candidly about debate negotiations.

That’s because at the previous debate, on Oct. 9 in St. Louis, the Trump campaign had an elaborate plan to parade three women who accused Mr. Clinton of sexual assault and rape into the family seating area and force Mr. Clinton to shake their hands as he crossed the room.

Had the Trump campaign succeeded, Mr. Clinton would have come face-to-face with the women on national television, a potentially humiliating and excruciating encounter. However, the Commission on Presidential Debates intervened, and the women — Juanita Broaddrick, Paula Jones and Kathleen Willey — never came close to Mr. Clinton.

But the Clinton side is not taking any chances at the final presidential debate, on Wednesday night in Las Vegas, and has apparently gained approval of a different protocol for the entry of the candidates’ spouses and families into the debate hall.

The new arrangement calls for the candidates’ spouses to enter the hall closer to their seats, rather than crossing the room, and each other’s paths.

That would avoid any potential for confrontations, given Mr. Trump’s penchant for dramatic stunts.

On Tuesday, an aide to Mrs. Clinton declined to comment on the change, and aides to Mr. Trump did not respond to an email seeking comment.

It is possible, of course, that further negotiations could result in a different arrangement, if both sides agree, by the time the debate begins at 9 p.m. Eastern.

But the unease over how the candidates’ families interact echoes that of the candidates themselves. At the debate in St. Louis, in a striking departure from tradition, Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Trump did not shake hands at the start, though they did at the conclusion of the 90 minutes.

The Clinton campaign is bracing for other possible Trump surprises at the debate, which seem more likely as the Republican nominee slips further in the polls.

Mr. Trump’s aides are preparing him with a sharp escalation in attacks on Mrs. Clinton’s character and a focus on her health, according to a senior campaign adviser, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

On Sunday, in a debate prep session at his golf club in Bedminster, N.J., Mr. Trump sparred with Gov. Chris Christie, who informally played the role of Mrs. Clinton, according to a second senior adviser, who also requested anonymity to share details of internal campaign activities.

Mr. Christie helped sharpen Mr. Trump for his last debate performance, helping him to more aggressively and coherently attack Mrs. Clinton over her use of a private email server, the adviser said. This time, Mr. Trump’s advisers are preparing lines related to Mrs. Clinton’s health, which Mr. Trump has sought to make an issue of after her bout of pneumonia in September.

At his rallies, Mr. Trump tends to highlight any time that Mrs. Clinton spends off the campaign trail. He has seized on her days off in the past week as evidence of frailty, though she used much of the time to prepare for the debate and hold private fund-raising events.

On Tuesday, according to a person briefed on the plan, Mr. Trump intends to bring President Obama’s half brother, Malik Obama, a Trump supporter, to the debate.

Aides to Mrs. Clinton, who seemed rattled but who did not flinch last time as her husband’s accusers sat in the debate hall, insisted she was prepared for whatever happens.

“Whatever scorched-earth tactics he has planned for the debate, we will be ready and she will be unfazed,” said Brian Fallon, a spokesman for Mrs. Clinton.

    • Will this Election Day be repeat of 1980?

NEW YORK – A Gallup poll released Oct. 26, 1980, showed Ronald Reagan was slipping farther behind President Jimmy Carter, with Carter at 47 percent and Reagan at 39 percent.

Reagan did not take the lead in the Gallup polls until the very last poll taken at the end of October, when just days ahead of Election Day, Nov. 4, 1980, Gallup had Reagan ahead 47-43 percent.

Reagan won by a landslide, capturing 50.7 percent of the popular vote to 41 percent for Carter, winning 44 states, with the exception of Georgia, Hawaii, Maryland, Minnesota, Rhode Island and West Virginia, for an electoral vote total of 489 versus 49 for Carter.

  32. Judicial Watch: New Emails Show Hillary Clinton Contacts with Bryan Pagliano – Raise New Questions About Her Sworn Testimony

Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch today released new State Department documents, which were uncovered by the FBI in its investigation of Clinton and her use of the clintonemail.com system. The emails reveal direct communications between former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her top IT specialist, Bryan Pagliano, about clintonemail.com management problems. Last week, Clinton claimed under oath to Judicial Watch that she “does not recall having communications” with Pagliano relating to the email system. Clinton’s emails to Pagliano, who installed and maintained the clintonemail.com computer system in the Clinton’s New York home, relate to email management problems with Clinton’s BlackBerry. The FBI recovered these new emails from those not turned over by Hillary Clinton. These new emails are government documents and not personal emails as Hillary Clinton claims in defending her decision to not turn over 30,000 emails sent or received by her as Secretary of State.

The new documents were among the nearly 15,000 Clinton emails discovered by the FBI, and obtained in response to an April 8, 2016, federal court order directing the Department of State to begin producing materials for Judicial Watch in response to a September 3, 2015 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit (Judicial Watch, Inc. v. U.S. Department of State (No. 1:15-cv-01441)). The lawsuit was filed after State failed to comply with an August 5, 2015 FOIA request seeking information about Bryan Pagliano’s involvement with Clinton’s email system.

Several “Test” messages were sent between Pagliano, Clinton, and her then-Deputy Chief of Staff Jon Davidson on September 2, 2011. And on March 2012 Clinton writes to Pagliano, “Once again, I’m having BB [BlackBerry] trouble”:

Thanks again. I’m back in business.

On October 13, 2016, Judicial Watch released Clinton’s responses given under oath to 25 questions posed by Judicial Watch as ordered by U.S. District Judge Emmet G. Sullivan in separate litigation. The final question reads:

Identify all communications between you and Brian Pagliano concerning or relating to the management, preservation, deletion, or destruction of any emails in your clintonemail.com email account, including any instruction or direction to Mr. Pagliano about the management, preservation, deletion, or destruction of emails in your account when transferring the clintonemail.com email system to any alternate or replacement server. For each communication, identify the time, date, place, manner (e.g., in person, in (e.g., in person, in writing, by telephone, or by electronic or other means), persons present or participating, and content of the communication.

    Clinton’s response:

Secretary Clinton objects to Interrogatory No. 25 on the ground that it requests information that is outside the scope of permitted discovery for the reasons set forth in General Objection No. 5. Secretary Clinton further objects to Interrogatory No. 25 on the ground that the word “management” is vague. Secretary Clinton further objects to Interrogatory No. 25 insofar as it requests information related to alternate or replacement servers used after Secretary Clinton’s tenure as Secretary of State. Subject to and without waiving the foregoing objections, Secretary Clinton states that she does not recall having communications with Bryan Pagliano concerning or relating to the management, preservation, deletion, or destruction of any e-mails in her clintonemail.com email account. [Emphasis added]

Clinton also claimed she “does not recall” 20 times in her responses given under oath.

In addition, Judicial Watch deposed Bryan Pagliano in June. He invoked his Fifth Amendment right not to incriminate himself more than 125 times, including:

    Q. During your tenure at the State Department, did you communicate with Secretary Clinton by e-mail?

    A. On the advice of counsel, I will decline to answer your question in reliance on my rights under the Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution.

“These new emails leave little doubt that Hillary Clinton was less than forthright and misled the public when she wrote, under oath, that she ‘couldn’t recall’ communicating with Bryan Pagliano about her email scheme,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “No wonder Clinton and her agents deleted these emails time and time again. And these smoking gun emails would never have seen the light of day but for Judicial Watch’s federal lawsuits.”

  34. SYRIA – Government must rid Aleppo of ‘terrorists’ to protect civilians: Assad

ZURICH (Reuters) – Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad told a Swiss TV station that government forces had to rid the city of Aleppo of rebel “terrorists” under its constitutional mandate to protect the civilian population.

“That’s our mission, according to the constitution, according to the law, that we have to protect people, that we have to get rid of those terrorists from Aleppo. This is where we can protect the civilians,” he said in an interview with Swiss broadcaster SRF conducted on Tuesday and posted on SRF’s website on Wednesday.

“How can you protect them while they are under the control of terrorists? They’ve been killed by them, and they’ve been controlled fully by the terrorists. Is it our role to sit aside and watch if that’s how we can protect the Syrian people? We need to attack the terrorists, that’s self-evident.”

      • ‘They want to replace us!’ Marine Le Pen says Islamic law threatening to oust French law (express, Oct 19, 2016)
        http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/723064/Marine-Le-Pen-Islamic-Law-threatens-oust-French-law

“MARINE Le Pen has blasted that Islamic law is trying to “replace” French law in strong-worded outburst ahead of France’s upcoming Presidential elections.

The leader of the far-right Front National (FN) party fumed about the effect of “Islamic fundamentalism” in her country.

On social networking site Twitter, Ms Le Pen said: “Islamic fundamentalism is a totalitarian ideology which aims to replace our laws by religious laws.”

One tweeter replied: “It is worse than that, they want to replace us!”

Ms Le Pen also wrote on Twitter: “The discussion on the exit of the European Union will be followed by a national referendum.”

The leader also said on Twitter that the current French government is being too “lax” over the migrant crisis hitting the country, asking “Where is the Government?”

Ms Le Pen also claimed that mass immigration is fertile ground for Islamisation and the French community could not carry on lumbering the “huge” cost of migrants.

This comes as she vowed to ban all religious symbols if she was elected the president of France.

The FN leader said: “I will prohibit overt signs in the public space”.

She claimed she would extend a 2004 law banning religious symbolism in schools to all public spaces if she emerges victorious in the elections next year.

She said: “I know it is a sacrifice, but I think the situation is serious now, I think every French person can understand that if we ask them for a sacrifice in order to help fight against the advance of the Islamic extremism, they will make the effort, they will understand.”

Ms Le Pen also said the Jewish skull cap would be banned if she was the next French president.

She said: “It is clear that kips are not the issue within our country. But for the sake of equality, they should be prohibited.

“If I requested to ban solely Muslim attire, people would slam me for hating Muslims.”

Ms Le Pen also took to Twitter to say that if she becomes president of France, her main concern is the interest of France.”

  35. Saudi blogger Raif Badawi ‘faces new round of lashes’ (BBC, Oct 19, 2016)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-37703312

“Supporters of jailed Saudi blogger Raif Badawi have expressed alarm at a report that he faces a new round of lashes.

A Canadian foundation campaigning for his release said a source had told it the flogging could happen at any time.

European Parliament President Martin Schulz, who gave Mr Badawi the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought in 2015, said he was shocked and saddened.

The 32 year old was sentenced in 2014 to 10 years in prison and 1,000 lashes for “insulting Islam” online.

There was an international outcry after he received the first 50 lashes in public in January 2015, and he has not been flogged since.

The Raif Badawi Foundation said in a statement that it had “received from a private source the sad news concerning the fact that the Saudi government will resume the lashing punishment”.

The source was the same who had warned about the first flogging session, the statement added.

“Our understanding of the information is that another series of lashes punishment will take place this time inside the prison.”

Badawi’s wife Ensaf Haidar, who fled to the Canadian province of Quebec with the couple’s three children in 2012 following an attempt on her husband’s life, told Deutsche Welle on Tuesday: “I was totally shocked by the news. I’m worried and scared that they’ll carrying on whipping him.”

“I’m concerned about Raif’s health, which is not good – either mentally or physically.”

Mrs Haidar added: “I really hope that Saudi Arabia will not go ahead and implement the sentence. I would hope that the Saudi authorities strip Raif of his citizenship and then deport him to Canada to be with us.”

Badawi established the Liberal Saudi Network, a now-closed online forum that sought to encourage debate on religious and political matters in Saudi Arabia, in 2008…”

  36. Car blazes leaves families terrified Norway will ‘go up in flames’ as Malmo attacks spread (express, Oct 19, 2016)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/723023/Car-blazes-families-terrified-Norway-Malmo-attacks-spread

“NORWEGIAN families are terrified Oslo will become Scandinavia’s next “no-go zone” after two cars were set ablaze in the dead of night.

In a shocking video the vehicles can be seen burning out as firefighters battle to put out the flames.

The incident happened in Mortensrud, in Oslo, a quiet area of the Norwegian capital with many families.

Several neighbours witnessed the blaze and one expressed they were now scared the city would end up like Sweden, which currently has more than 50 areas listed as “no-go zones” due to car fires and unprecedented levels of crimes.

The local, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “It’s only a matter of time before [the violence] spreads, I have no doubt about it.”

The incident was filmed by Bkazej Bonin after his wife alerted him to the fire.

Mr Bonin said: “I was about to go to bed when my wife said two cars were on fire outside the block.”

It is believed the fire started on the hood of one car and spread to the second vehicle.

Witnesses said two people were seen fleeing the scene after the fire erupted and police have detained one man in his 20s.

Mother of two, Jeanette Pettersen said the thought that someone might have burned out the two BMW’s on purpose was scary.

The suspected arsonist attack, which happened just before midnight night to Tuesday, comes as Sweden and Denmark have been plagued with a series of car fires…”

  37. NEW MIGRANT ROUTE: Romania’s 13,000 border guards SCRAMBLE as refugees switch journey (express, Oct 19, 2016)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/723105/romania-migrants-migrant-crisis-balkan-route-border-guards

“MIGRANTS are now using Romania as a gateway into Western Europe, causing the country’s 13,000 border guards to scramble to regain control.

Border guards are now using helicopters and boats to patrol the border with Serbia, which many migrants are now attempting to cross after running into a dead end at the fenced border with Hungary.

Marius Stuparu, a border policeman at Beba Veche in the far west of the country, revealed: “This is where all the refugees want to cross. But the Romanian police have been there and have managed to prevent all attempts.”

Romanian police are now using high-tech equipment to prevent migrants illegally crossing their border, including sensors that detect body heat and recognise heart beats…”

  38. ‘It’s about security’ Norway ‘tells EU borders will REMAIN closed’ amid migrant crackdown (express, Oct 19, 2016)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/723077/Norway-EU-borders-remain-closed-migrant-crackdown?

“NORWAY’s internal controls will continue and its borders will remain closed until the migrant crisis is under control, a minister has declared.

Justice Minister Anders Anundsen announced on Wednesday that Norway is set to follow Denmark’s precedent by asking the European Union (EU) to extend the country’s border checks.

The Scandinavian country is a part of the Schengen Zone, which was created to allow citizens of member countries to travel freely without passport checks to other nations within the area.

However, as the unprecedented influx of migrants has placed an enormous strain on the public services in the EU and EEA countries, several of the members have implemented internal border controls.

Norway implemented internal checks in November last year, and Mr Anundsen wants the temporary border to remain as a matter of national security.

Countries within the Schengen Zone must apply for extensions from the EU as it could threaten the “right to freedom of movement”.

The decision to apply for a continued border comes as the Government believes the situation remains the same, despite fewer migrants coming to the country…”
