Bangladeshi police stormed a militant hideout in a Dhaka neighbourhood and killed nine suspected Islamist extremists in a gun-battle Tuesday morning, officials said.

Police said they belonged to a Bangladeshi group blamed for an attack on a Dhaka cafe earlier this month in which 20 hostages, mostly foreigners, were killed and had been planning another large-scale assault.

“Nine Islamist militants were killed after two hour-long gunfight” deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Masud Ahmed told AFP, adding another extremist was shot and arrested during the raid in Kalyanpur neighbourhood.

National police chief A.K.M Shohidul Haque told reporters they suspected all 10 were members of the homegrown extremist group Jamayetul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), which was blamed for the Dhaka cafe attack.

An explosives-laden car blew up on Monday in a heavily policed district in the center of the Syrian capital Damascus, causing injuries and extensive damage, state media said.

The explosion in the Kafr Sousa neighborhood close to the main Umayyad Square that connects the city center with several highways hit an area where some of Syria’s main security installations are based.

The U.K.-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights which tracks violence across the country said the blast was near an Iranian school and that there were dead among the casualties.

Insurgents fighting to topple President Bashar al Assad say the district houses many recruits from Iranian-backed militias fighting alongside Assad’s army. A rebel group claimed it had targeted Iranian-backed militias in the area.

  3. Think of the “children”!!!

    http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-36890721

Thousands of lone migrant children are living in squalid conditions after being let down by European countries including the UK, a report has warned.
Youngsters face a culture of suspicion, and authorities try to avoid taking on their care, a Lords EU committee said.
Their “harrowing” circumstances have led them to lose faith in national authorities, making them easy prey for smuggling gangs, witnesses told peers.
The Home Office says it is helping resettle such children under a new law.
More than 10,000 migrant children are believed to have disappeared after arriving in Europe over the past two years, the EU’s police intelligence unit says.

    • Children or adults that claimed to be kids when they signed up for refugee status? Of those that disappeared how many were trained fighters moving to their assigned areas to become the cadre for various Islamic militias that are going to attack the non Islamic areas in the near future?

  4. http://www.irishtimes.com/news/world/europe/turkey-orders-arrest-of-42-journalists-in-rolling-crackdown-1.2733984

Turkey ordered the detention of 42 journalists on Monday, broadcaster NTV reported, under a crackdown following a failed coup that has targeted more than 60,000 people and is drawing fire from the European Union.
The arrests or suspensions of soldiers, police, judges and civil servants in response to the July 15th-16th putsch have raised concerns among rights groups and western countries, who fear President Tayyip Erdogan is capitalising on it to tighten his grip on power.
EU commission president Jean-Claude Juncker questioned Ankara’s long-standing aspiration to join the EU.
“I believe that Turkey, in its current state, is not in a position to become a member any time soon and not even over a longer period,” said Mr Juncker said on French television channel France 2.

  5. President Reagan speaks to the nation after the terrorist murder of 241 of our Marines in Beirut, 1983.

This is the President of the United States of America. We deserve nothing less.

    • What a shame the US cut and run after that attack. Had the US stayed the course and fought back instead of bolting after that attack its possible none of this subsequent emboldened Islamic world would have happened.

      • Agreed, according to Admiral Ace Lyons it was Cap Weinburger that prevented any retaliation and forced the pull out. There is a video of him talking at some conservative conference of an anti Islam get together but I can’t find it.

      • I know almost nothing about what was going on then. I was in Beirut as a kid at a horrific time and the very word makes me shudder.

During Israel’s Second Lebanon War (exactly 10 years ago), I lost close family who had recently made aliya. A sickening, botched mess of a war that wasn’t won. That will be fought again, at cost too high for me to contemplate. I leave that to others (Including those who have nothing useful to say, but won’t shut up.)

What I like about this speech is that the President is talking to us. We’re addressed as Americans, not interest groups who hire mercenaries to die for them. A reprise of “Why We Fight” series during WWII.

        • That is the secret of Trumps success, he is an outsider who is working to appeal to Americans. Not hyphenated Americans but people think of themselves as Americans first and think of their race or sex second if at all.

      • Hillary has said a lot that makes her unfit for any public office much less President. She is the universally hated politician who has blackmail material on everyone else.

The current predictions are that a minimum of 15% of the Bernie supporters will stay home and not vote, if Trump can pick up the independents who are worrying about national security he will win. The thing that worries me is the way that in 2012 you had several precents with 150% voter turnout and 100% of the 150% turnout voted for Obama. Hopefully enough people are so afraid of Hillary that they will turn out and vote in high enough numbers that the vote fraud won’t win the election like it did in 2012.

        • I can’t find the link, but I have a file from the Republican National Lawyers Association on Voter Fraud, 2012-13. Specifics: dates, places, votes.

  6. This should give us cause to pause and think how far back in time we have been dragged:
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-36799639

A court in the Netherlands has sentenced a man to 30 days in jail for insulting the king on Facebook.
The 44-year-old Dutchman “intentionally insulted” King Willem-Alexander, accusing him of being a murderer, thief and rapist, the Dutch judiciary said.
He was convicted of breaking seldom-used royal defamation laws.
A Dutch political party has proposed scrapping the laws and the king has pledged to accept the outcome of any debate on the issue.

    • The Moslems want us in the 7th Century, if we are lucky we will stop in the 1yh or 18th Centuries. I would like to think we would stop where classical liberalism is in full force but given the state of the current educational systems and the BS they put out this is probably asking too much.

  7. http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/huge-fire-breaks-out-near-nato-military-base-turkey-1572283

UPDATE: The Nato has said the huge fire near its Turkish base in Izmir did not affect its installation. A Nato spokesperson sent a statement to IBTimes UK saying: “No fire took place in the Nato land component headquarters in Izmir, nor in areas adjacent to it. Our headquarters in Izmir is fully operational. The fire in question occurred in an area close to a Turkish naval base.”

A huge fire earlier broke out near the military base in the country, which is still reeling under the aftermath of the failed coup attempt. Firefighters were battling to contain the inferno in western Turkey’s Buca district. Local media reports say authorities suspect the fire could be a possible act of sabotage.

    • Reuters: U.S. Embassy says family of staff authorised to depart Turkey
(Reuters) – The U.S. Embassy in Ankara said on Tuesday the State Department has authorised the voluntary departure of employees’ family members in Turkey after a failed military coup.

Turkey’s declaration of a state of emergency also prompted the State Department to change the status, the Embassy said in an e-mailed security message to Americans resident in Turkey.

“During this period, U.S. citizens in Turkey may see an increase in police or military activities and restrictions on movement,” it said.

        • So does J.E. Dyer. I get the feeling she wakes up in a cold sweat worrying about our people serving in ghastly places, these shady clowns at the helm.

          • She is part of the military family, we always worry about the other family members who are serving in harms way, and no matter how old, how infirm or how vital our jobs are we also feel guilty because we aren’t there to help our family.

          • You are right about the shady characters, we are use to having worn out equipment we are use to having our hands tied but we aren’t u se to our political leaders stabbing us in the back. There have been many a military coup caused by the political leaders betraying the troops.

MIAMI (AP) — A former ballet dancer and member of the Russian military who has been imprisoned as an enemy combatant at Guantanamo for nearly 14 years was given notice Monday that a review board has approved his release from the U.S. base in Cuba.

Ravil Mingazov was deemed eligible for release by the Periodic Review Board, an interagency task force set up by the Obama administration to evaluate whether prisoners not facing charges can be released without endangering U.S. security. He is the last Russian citizen still held at Guantanamo.

A statement announcing the decision was posted on the board’s website, and Mingazov’s lawyers said they notified him by video-teleconference from their office in Washington to the base in Cuba. The Russian planned a celebratory dinner with other prisoners at Guantanamo, said attorney Gary Thompson of the global firm Reed, Smith LLP.

  9. http://aranews.net/2016/07/iranian-regime-executes-dozens-opposition-activists/

TEHRAN – The Iranian regime has executed dozens of opposition activists across the country by hanging them to death in public squares, local sources reported on Sunday.

Iranian security forces last week arrested over 40 young activists, and executed at least 27 of them.

“The authorities did not announce the real reason behind the execution of those people. It said they were a group of drug dealers, but this is a baseless charge fabricated to misguide international rights organisations. The victims were political activists and most of them were Kurds,” Iranian Kurdish politician Enwer Mohamadi told ARA News.

“We continue to witness these brutal executions in the streets of Iran, while the international community remains unable to take action against this totalitarian regime,” he said.

    • The terror of the French Revolution and the Bolshevik revolution. While this is going to be very hard on the Turks who want freedom it will show those who are willing to believe how evil Islam is. This understanding is what we need to rally the people to the cause of freedom.

  10. Gulen should get out of the USA and go to a safe country ASAP:
    http://zeenews.india.com/news/world/ties-will-be-hit-if-cleric-is-not-extradited-turkey-warns-us_1911439.html

Ankara: The Turkish-US relations could be affected if Washington does not extradite cleric Fethullah Gulen whom Ankara accuses of being behind the July 15 coup attempt, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Monday.

Turkey will accelerate efforts for the extradition of Gulen, Xinhua news agency quoted Cavusoglu as saying.

Turkey has repeatedly said the coup attempt was organised by the followers of Gulen.

However, the cleric who has been living in a self-imposed exile in the US for years, denied any involvement, calling the accusation “insulting”.

“I am sure US President [Barack] Obama, the US intelligence and Secretary of State know this coup [attempt] was made by Gulen,” Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag said.

Bozdag also warned that the relations between the two countries will turn sour if Gulen maintains his life in the US after the attempt.

    • If we had a President who 1 wasn’t a Moslem and 2 who believed in the rule of law and obeying the law he would be safe. With Obama the advice is good, the question is where is there a safe country?

      • This Gulen is evil. His charter schools are everywhere. Anti-American. Heaps of money given to dirty politicos. Seriously luvy with the Witch, et al.

        • I will agree with you description of him but think that without good evidence we can’t extradite him to Turkey. Ignoring the law when the law is inconvenient, like Obama is doing, is a quick trip to tyranny.

I am trying and failing to remember the name of the movie from the 60s about this. It was a historical movie about an incident in history where this lawyer opposes the king over some point of law. I think the lawyer was executed for his holding to principle.

          • No, I agree we don’t extradite to Erdoff. Even with evidence we couldn’t do it. Keep him in a box on his mountain, sure. To Erdoff’s maw? Never.

            • Having to live with a set of principles is difficult at times, but we are the ones fighting to retain civilization so we can’t deviate too far from our base principles.

Having said the above, Water boarding isn’t torture and mind games that humiliate the prisoner and cause him to talk aren’t either.

  11. Sounds like the Brits have not learned anything from the ‘general warrants’ fiasco and the War of Independence they percipitated:
    https://techcrunch.com/2016/07/15/uk-surveillance-bill-includes-powers-to-limit-end-to-end-encryption/

The UK government has explicitly confirmed that a surveillance bill now making its way through the second chamber could be used to require a company to remove encryption. And even, in some circumstances, to force a comms service provider not to use end-to-end encryption to secure a future service they are developing. The details were revealed during debate of the Investigatory Powers Bill at a committee session in the House of Lords this week.

This cements concerns over the phrasing of a clause in the bill that refers to the ‘removal of electronic protection’, which critics, including from the technology and security industries, have long been warning risks outlawing the use of strong encryption in the UK.

The government’s counter argument has been that there should be no safe spaces for terrorists and criminals to operate online, i.e. where their communications are definitively out of the reach of security and law enforcement agencies.

OTTAWA – Abdirahman Abdi died on Monday afternoon, a day after a confrontation between him and police prompted a Special Investigations Unit probe into how the 37-year-old Somali-Canadian man suffered fatal injuries during his arrest.

In a statement, the SIU said Abdi attempted to elude arrest and led police on a foot chase through Hintonburg in the Wellington Street West and Fairmont Avenue area on Sunday morning, the SIU said in a release.

The SIU said police confronted a man outside 55 Hilda St. and that “at some point during the confrontation, the man suffered medical distress.”

    • Ethnic Opposition to Iran’s Regime Is on the Rise

      – Since June 2016, Iran has been enduring terror attacks and assassinations by ethnic-opposition elements operating within its territory and adjacent to it.

      – Attacks on Iranian petroleum infrastructure in Ahvaz are a reaction to Iran’s ongoing repressive policy against the Arab minority in Ahvaz, including the ongoing arrests, trials, executions, and expulsions of young people in that area.

      – There are currently six to seven million Kurds living in Iran. Although they are part of the Iranian state, they may be distinguished from the Shiite minority by language and religion (most Kurds are Sunnis).

      – The Arab Sunni fighters’ targeting of the oil facilities, if it gains momentum, could pose a problem for Iran just as it is trying to renew oil exports after the lifting of sanctions. Attacks on energy infrastructure for gas and oil could foster an unsafe, unstable environment for international energy companies.

      – Iran’s security forces have been cracking down on the Arabs, augmenting this population’s discontent along with its separatist aspirations.
The Iranian regime, which so far has been spared the regional repercussions of the Arab Spring – or Islamic Awakening as the regime calls it – is now starting to feel the effects.

Since June 2016 and to a lesser extent before then as well, Iran has been enduring terror attacks and assassinations by ethnic-opposition elements operating within its territory and adjacent to it. These include Kurds in the north and near the Iraqi border, Salafi Sunnis near Iran’s eastern border with Pakistan, and Sunni Arabs in the Khuzestan province near the Iraqi border in the southwest.

German refugee policy under fire after a week of bloodshed
BERLIN (AP) — Four attacks in a week — three of them carried out by asylum seekers — have left Germany on edge and Chancellor Angela Merkel’s policies of welcoming refugees under renewed criticism. Anxiety over Germany’s ability to cope with last year’s flood of more than 1 million registered asylum seekers first surged following a series of sexual assaults and robberies in Cologne during New Year celebrations.

  16. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2016/jul/22/us-olympic-committee-bullying-unofficial-sponsors-hashtags

The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) has been using legal bullying tactics to try and prevent companies that aren’t official sponsors of the Games from using “official” Twitter hashtags such as #TeamUSA and #Rio2016.

Over the last few weeks, the USOC has sent letters to companies that sponsor athletes but don’t have a commercial relationship with the USOC or the International Olympic Committee, warning them against stealing intellectual property.

One of these letters, written by USOC chief marketing officer Lisa Baird and obtained by ESPN, states: “Commercial entities may not post about the Trials or Games on their corporate social media accounts. This restriction includes the use of USOC’s trademarks in hashtags such as #Rio2016 or #TeamUSA.”

Although German Chancellor Angela Merkel last year proudly declared a “welcoming culture” for refugees, Armin Schuster, the Christian Democrats homeland expert in the Bundestag warned the country needs a “farewell culture” too.

Schuster told the “Stuttgarter Zeitung” and the “Stuttgarter Nachrichten” newspapers Tuesday that Germany had failed to enforce the deportation of rejected asylum seekers. More than 200,000 failed claimants were still in the country, he said…”

    • Normandy church terror: ISIS knifemen slit throat of priest, 84, and take nuns hostage
A PRIEST had his throat slit and several others were taken hostage after armed men stormed a church in Normandy during morning mass today, as President Francois Hollande said ISIS had declared war on France.

The hostage, said to be 84-year-old Father Jacques Hamel, was killed by the attackers, who stormed a church in the town of Saint Etienne du Rouvray at around 10am local time (9am UK time).

The knifemen slit his throat after they entered the church by the back door shouting “Allah Akbar”, according to local media.

A statement released by Islamic State this afternoon claimed two of its “soldiers” had carried out the attack.

The men were shot dead by police officers as they emerged from the church.

A number of shots were heard over a period of around 15 seconds as the incident came to an end.

Specialist police teams are now searching the church for explosives amid fears the area could have been left booby-trapped by the knifemen.

    • Of course.

And Juncker has already said that Europe MUST remain open to all no matter what.

Even if there’s a 9/11 type of terror attack, open borders for all.

    • Elderly priest, 86, is ‘beheaded’ by two ISIS knifemen shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’ after they took nuns and worshippers hostage at French church: Police shoot both attackers dead then search for bombs

A priest has been ‘beheaded’ by two ISIS knifemen who cut his throat after bursting into a French church and taking nuns and worshippers hostage before being shot dead by police.

Five people including the 86-year-old priest, two nuns and two parishioners were held by assailants who raided the church in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray near Rouen in Normandy at 9am.

The clergyman, named as Jacques Hamel, is believed to have been beheaded during the attack while another hostage is fighting for life in hospital.

The two attackers were ‘neutralised’ by marksmen as they emerged from the building, which is now being searched for explosives. French president Francois Hollande said the men ‘claimed to be from’ ISIS while the terror group has claimed responsibility through its news agency.

There were reports the attackers shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’ as they ran outof the church while at least one of the men was dressed in Islamic clothing.

It comes as it emerged that the building was one of a number of Catholic churches on a terrorist ‘hit list’ found on a suspected ISIS extremist last April.

There are also reports that one of the attackers was a local resident who was under electronic tag surveillance having been jailed in France for trying to travel to Syria in 2015. His bail terms allowed him to be unsupervised between 8.30am and 12.30pm – the attack happened between 9am and 11.am.

A doctor has been killed after being shot by a gunman who subsequently killed himself at a university clinic in Berlin. Police say the situation in the southwest of the capital is now under control and is not related to terrorism.
The incident happened at the Benjamin Franklin Clinic, located in the Steglitz district, at around 11:00 GMT.

It emerged that the doctor was shot by the gunman, who later turned the gun on himself. Police said the physician was critically injured and was rushed to hospital where he was kept in intensive care. However, he succumbed to his injuries less than two hours after being shot.

  20. The killer of the 85 y.o. French Priest (decapitated) had wanted to join ISIS, but was stopped from doing so. He was released from prison early (Under the execrable anti-white racist Minister of Justice at the time, Christiane Taubira) and was supposed to wear a “bracelet” (which would signal his whereabouts to the authorities).

In France, the police are at the end of their forces, on orders of the interior Minister, B. CAZENEUVE they have to guard the MOSQUES, because of “Islamophobia”, they also guard Synagogues (also Jews not only do much of this themselves and do it better) but the Christian (mainly catholic) churches have been neglected and endangered so much that last year, for the Midnight Mass at Christmas: Irony of Irony, some “volunteer Muslims” came to “keep the Christians safe” . I think Vlad reported on this.
DONT BELIEVE whatever comes out from the socialist French Government,it will be lies told to cover their guilty arses.
The blood of this Priest and all French victims of Islam is on the hands of the – Saudi/Qatar servants, their euphemistically referred to as “political leaders”: Hollande, Cazeneuve, Taubira, Hidalgo, Belkazem and really all of this socialist Government and onhangers. (Hidalgo is the Mayor of Paris, one of the most disgusting collaborators against the French people).

Residents of Normandy’s Saint-Etienne du Rouvray expressed their shock at the church attack which killed a local catholic priest, Tuesday.

One local resident said, “I am 66 years old and when I see again these kind of things it is very upsetting. This poor priest that they just killed now, what did he do?”

Alexandre Joly, a vicar at the same church as the priest, described him as “a very kind and sweet man, discreet. He was attentive with people, at their service. And really a good man.”

SOT, local resident (French): “I am 66 years old and when I see again these kind of things it is very upsetting. This poor priest that they just killed now, what did he do? Even though I am not religious, but they are attacking poor people instead of those who lead us and are doing bad things.”

SOT, Soleyman, local resident (French): “This is ignoble, this is disgusting, I cannot find the word to describe it.”

SOT, Alexandre Joly, episcopal vicar (French): “This was an old priest, he was not vicar anymore, so he was not in charge of the parish but he was at our service here for 10 years. Almost 84 years. He was a very kind and sweet man, discreet. He was attentive with people, at their service. And really a good man.”

SOT, Aristide, local resident (French): “I’ve got cousins that come sometimes to pray there. They sing in the choir and people justly came today exactly- to sing -from the African community- and many of them were blocked around [the church]. These people [the terrorists], it will very surprise me if they are from here.”

SOT, Mireille, local resident (French): “I was astonished. I would never have believed that this stuff could happen in a little city… My little city of 29,000 inhabitants; It can happen close to us.”

Germany’s federal criminal police have 410 leads on possible terrorists among refugees here, a local newspaper reported on Monday.

The Neue Osnabruecker Zeitung newspaper said that compared with 369 leads in mid-May since the beginning of the migrant crisis last year.

Investigations have been launched in 60 cases, the newspaper said. It cited federal BKA police as saying they did not currently have any concrete indications of attack plans.

“In view of continuing migration to Germany we must assume that there could be active and former members, supporters and sympathizers of terrorist organizations or Islamist-motivated war criminals among the refugees,” the newspaper quoted federal police as saying.

ISIS is increasingly turning to encryption-based technology as it continues to elude Western counterterrorism agencies desperate to breakdown the terror group’s digital footprint.

Despite jihadi groups’ widespread and persistent online presence on social media platforms, a complex ‘toolbox’ of encryption instruments are being used by ISIS and other terror organizations to obscure their online communications with one another in the Islamic State’s Caliphate and in the West, according to a report by tech security analysts Flashpoint Intel.

The report notes a list of 36 different online tools, identified as “only a small sampling of the technologies required to overcome security challenges,” that are being employed by jihadis to stay under the radar and operate secretly beneath the surface on social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook.

The Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has said he can provide the addresses of the Taliban leaders in Quetta city of Pakistan.
During an interview with Geo News, President Ghani said Pakistan provides sanctuaries to terrorists and trains them, making relations with Pakistan, the bigger challenge for his country.
“We cannot understand when Pakistan says it will not allow a group of terrorists to amend its constitution, army act and prepares a National Action Plan (NAP) against them. Simultaneously, Pakistan tolerates another group which attempts to undermine the government and bring horror, death and destruction to Afghanistan,” said Ghani.

Suicide bombers killed at least 13 people at the gates of the African Union’s main peacekeeping base in the Somali capital Mogadishu on Tuesday, police said, in an attack claimed by the Islamist militants of al Shabaab.

The force of the explosions shattered windows at the nearby airport, showered arriving passengers with glass and forced the suspension of flights, police and witnesses said.

Police said the first attacker detonated a car bomb and the second tried to storm the base on foot, but was shot and exploded at the gate.

“At least 13 people mostly security forces died in the two car bomb blasts,” and 12 others were wounded, Abdiqadir Omar, a police officer told Reuters.

The guards were caught in the blast as they escorted U.N. personnel into the base, which is known as Halane, he added.

Two more people have been arrested in connection with the Nice attacker who killed 84 people in the French Riviera city of Nice on July 14, sources close to the investigation told Reuters on Tuesday.

Paris prosecutor Francois Molins said last week the Bastille Day attacker, Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, had been planning the attack for months. Five suspected accomplices already in custody have been put under formal investigation.

None of the five had been known to intelligence services.

The source said the new arrests took place on Monday in Nice.

A second source said the two arrested were men and that their pictures had been found on Bouhlel’s mobile telephone.

Four tortured puppies lie prone on the ground after a thug covered them in hot tar in this disturbing picture.

The vulnerable hounds are slumped pitifully, their legs and underbellies coated in the viscous black muck.

It is just the latest shocking incident in a string of attacks which has seen young dogs targeted by cruel yobs.

These four victims were unable to move and were brought in a critical condition to vet Sorin Puiu’s clinic in the city of Iasi, in north-eastern Romania.

According to the ‘Justice for Animals’ NGO, who shared the pictures of the poor animals’ ordeal online, this is just the most recent of a series of similar attacks.

  31. Turkey detains generals, journalists in widening purge post-coup

Ankara (AFP) – Turkey on Tuesday detained prominent journalists and two top generals serving abroad in a widening of the relentless legal crackdown after the July 15 coup that has caused growing alarm in the West.

The coup, which tried to unseat President Recep Tayyip Erdogan but lost momentum within hours, has sent shockwaves through all aspects of life in Turkey which are still being felt almost two weeks on.

Over 13,000 people have been detained and tens of thousands more have lost their jobs over the coup, which the Turkish authorities blame on the reclusive Pennsylvania-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gulen.

The crackdown and announcement of a three-month state of emergency has prompted sharp exchanges with the European Union, which Turkey has for years sought to join but which has sternly warned Ankara to obey the rule of law.

  32. Knife attacker in Japan kills 19 in their sleep at disabled center

SAGAMIHARA, Japan (Reuters) – A knife-wielding man broke into a facility for the disabled in a small town near Tokyo early on Tuesday and killed 19 patients as they slept, authorities said, Japan’s worst mass killing since World War Two.

At least 25 other residents were wounded in the attack at the Tsukui Yamayuri-En facility for mentally and physically disabled in Sagamihara town, about 25 miles (40 km) southwest of Tokyo.

“This is a very heart-wrenching and shocking incident in which many innocent people became victims,” Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga told a regular news conference in Tokyo.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe later told a gathering in Tokyo: “The lives of many innocent people were taken away and I am greatly shocked. We will make every effort to discover the facts and prevent a reoccurance.”

The suspect was a 26-year-old former employee of the facility who gave himself up to police. The man, Satoshi Uematsu, said in letters he wrote in February that he could “obliterate 470 disabled people”, Kyodo news agency reported.

  33. U.S. says backs resumption of China-Philippines talks on South China Sea

VIENTIANE (Reuters) – U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said on Tuesday he supported the resumption of talks between China and the Philippines over the South China Sea, following an international court ruling against Beijing over the dispute earlier this month.

China did not participate in and has refused to accept the July 12 ruling by the U.N.-backed Permanent Court of Arbitration, in which U.S. ally Manila won an emphatic legal victory.

China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi had asked Kerry to lend his support for bilateral talks to restart between Manila and Beijing in a meeting between the two in the Laos capital of Vientiane on Monday.

“The foreign minister said the time has come to move away from public tensions and turn the page,” Kerry told a news conference. “And we agree with that… no claimant should be acting in a way that is provocative, no claimant should take steps that wind up raising tensions.”

Kerry said he would encourage Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte to engage in dialogue and negotiations with China when the two meet in Manila on Wednesday. Kerry is due to travel to the Philippines later on Tuesday.

  35. Turkish military a fractured force after attempted coup

ISTANBUL (Reuters) – Just weeks ago, Commander Adem Huduti was inspecting Turkish troops on the Syrian border and being praised in the media for his role in the fight against Islamic State and Kurdish militants.

Now, the head of Turkey’s second army, responsible for its borders with Syria and Iraq, is in prison in Duzce, some 216 km (134 miles) east of Istanbul, the most senior serving general arrested for suspected involvement in a failed military coup.

At least 246 people were killed and more than 2,000 injured on the night of July 15, when a faction within the army used fighter jets, helicopters and tanks to try to seize airports and bridges, attacking buildings including parliament and the intelligence headquarters in a bid to seize power.

  36. Turkish troops hunt remaining coup plotters as crackdown widens

ISTANBUL/ANKARA (Reuters) – Turkish special forces backed by helicopters, drones and the navy hunted a remaining group of commandos thought to have tried to capture or kill President Tayyip Erdogan during a failed coup, as a crackdown on suspected plotters widened on Tuesday.

More than 1,000 members of the security forces were involved in the manhunt for the 11 rogue soldiers in the hills around the Mediterranean coastal resort of Marmaris, where Erdogan was holidaying on the night of the coup bid, officials said.

Erdogan and the government blame U.S.-based Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen for orchestrating the attempted power grab and have launched a crackdown on his suspected followers. More than 60,000 soldiers, police, judges and civil servants have been arrested, suspended or put under investigation.

The religious affairs directorate removed another 620 staff including preachers and instructors in the Koran on Tuesday, bringing to more than 1,100 the number of people it has purged since the July 15 coup attempt.

Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said two ambassadors, currently Ankara-based, had also been removed. Former Istanbul governor Huseyin Avni Mutlu was detained and his house searched.

  37. DNC breaks federal law on Day 1. But what the heck, so did Obama

With the Democrats having put the first day of their national convention to bed, Dennis Michael Lynch notes that they’ve racked up two violations of Section 8 U.S. Code 1324.

What did they do to accomplish that? They knowingly hosted two adult illegal aliens as featured speakers at the convention.

One is a woman named Francisca (no last name given), who appeared at the speaker’s podium with her young daughter Karla. Francisca is currently ignoring a deportation order from the U.S. Government. Francisca and Karla are likely to be the pair featured in this June 2016 article in the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The other is a young woman named Astrid Silva, who came to the U.S. illegally at the age of 4. Now in her mid-20s, Silva has been working on a bachelor’s degree at Nevada State College.

We actually know quite a bit about Silva, because she’s a DREAM activist, and the organizing director of the Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada (PLAN). She’s on a DACA work permit from Obama, and for good reason: she campaigned for him in 2012. (If I were a betting woman, I’d bet that Francisca’s and Karla’s entrée to the convention came through Silva.)

  38. Unfit and unaccountable: Hillary says the one thing a commander-in-chief doesn’t get to say

Hillary Clinton’s response to questioning by Scott Pelley of 60 Minutes, in an interview that aired on Sunday 24 July, probably doesn’t need much commentary.

In the segment, Pelley asked her about Benghazi, and her responsibility for the security failures there in September 2012. Hillary’s bottom line for everything was a practiced, plausible-sounding deflection: basically, there were investigations, and hundreds of pages of reporting on them, and nothing was her fault.

This doesn’t comport with her own claim only seconds before that she “took responsibility” for the debacle in Benghazi. And Pelley let her get away with that: with making the heroic pronouncement about taking responsibility, but then shedding any actual accountability.

But Pelley’s not running for president. Hillary Clinton is. Here’s the key passage from the interview (my transcript):

    http://libertyunyielding.com/2016/07/25/unfit-hillary-says-one-thing-commander-chief-doesnt-get-say/

    • Once again the Dems/Left who they are opposed to free speech that doesn’t agree with them, Supporters of Bernie Saunders were upset because the evidence says that Hillary and the DNC ignored the will of the Democrat voters to force Hillary on them as their Presidential Candidate. The Democrat Primaries were as fair as the Third World elections that elect Presidents for life.

      • Communism appeals to naive, young and violent fanatics.

Democrats ran a communist against Hillary – and now they are shocked that his supporters are young and violent fanatics who will naively not put the will of The Party (however corrupt) above what they think is ‘fair’?!?!?

Who could have seen this coming…

        • While Hillary has never joined the communist party she has backed all of their goals, so really it was two communists fighting for the nomination. Hillary just hides what she is where Bernie was proud of what he is.

  39. Germany: Christian Names for Muslim Migrants?

“The United States is full of anglicized German names, from Smith to Steinway, from Miller to Schwartz. The reason: integration was made easier. … I think that German citizens of foreign origin should also have this possibility.” — Ruprecht Polenz, former secretary general of Germany’s ruling Christian Democratic Union.

Non-Muslim immigrants generally choose traditional German names for their children to facilitate their integration into German society. By contrast, Muslim immigrants almost invariably choose traditional Arabic or Turkish names, presumably to prevent their integration into German society. A 2006 study found that more than 90% of Turkish parents give their German-born children Turkish first names.

A 2016 study found that 32% of ethnic Turks in Germany agree that “Muslims should strive to return to a societal order such as that in the time of Mohammed.” More than one-third believe that “only Islam is able to solve the problems of our times.” One-fifth agree that “the threat which the West poses to Islam justifies violence.” One-quarter believe that “Muslims should not shake the hand of a member of the opposite sex.”
