A Nigerian man facing imminent execution in Indonesia tearfully told a court that police electrocuted his genitals to force him to confess to possessing heroin.

Michael Titus Igweh is among several prisoners on death row whom lawyers and human rights groups are frantically lobbying to save from the firing squad amid claims they were tortured and their legal cases riddled with corruption, errors and miscarriages of justice.

  2. Not that this is a surprise to anyone – but “it had nothing to do with true Islam”…LOL!

A failed asylum seeker from Syria killed himself and injured 12 other people after setting off a bomb near an open-air music festival in the German city of Ansbach.
Bavaria’s interior minister said the 27-year-old man detonated a backpack device after being refused entry to the festival in the southern city.
About 2,500 people were evacuated from the venue after the explosion.
It is the third attack in the state of Bavaria in a week.

    http://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/media-village-rio-olympics-built-mass-grave-slaves-180959873/

When journalists show up en masse in Rio de Janeiro to cover the Summer Olympics next month, many will stay in the Barra Media Villages, a self-described group of “over 1,500 spacious and modern apartments” complete with kitchens, 24/7 food access, along with a huge pool. But, write Daniel Gross and Jonathan Watts for The Guardian, that luxury comes at a price: Part of the village was constructed on top of a mass grave for slaves.

Gross and Watts report that part of a Brazilian quilombo, a community of people whose ancestors were runaway slaves, was torn down to make the village. Residents say that developers did away with “sacred” archaeological remnants of African slaves by building over them. In contention is a colonial-era sugar mill that Camorim Quilombo residents claim was razed without an archaeological survey—and, given that a huge mass grave of slaves was found nearby 16 years ago, they claim that the village is built over the graves of their ancestors.

Quilombos hold special status in Brazil, which had a long and particularly brutal slave trade. The country had up to 10 times the number of slaves the United States did, relied on slave labor to build its cities and infrastructure, and was the last nation in the Americas to abolish slavery in 1888. But the end of slavery didn’t mean the end of its influence in Brazil—or the end of forced labor in some rural areas, which continued through the 20th century. Today, people of color constitute 50.7 percent of the country’s population, and Afro-Brazilians are a critical part of Brazilian culture despite ongoing racial disparities.

    • I just figured this out. Some really cynical pro-terrorist group is using a fad and Western stupidity to get people to import more cute little Arab kids. When the kids arrive, they won’t look anything like the photos. They’ll be trained, bearded killers who claim to be children. The authorities won’t notice. Also: where are the little girls? The kids are boys. That’s because girls don’t get military training, they’re just for, you know.

  4. Thousands of Turkish soldiers ‘RAPED and STARVED’ as punishment for failed Turkey coup (express, July 25, 2016)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/692810/Turkey-Amnesty-International-torture-rape-starved-failed-coup

“THOUSANDS of Turkish soldiers are being raped, starved and left without water, according to Amnesty International.

The human rights group said it has “credible evidence” that around 10,000 Turkish soldiers face the severe punishments for their part of the failed military coup against president Erdogan.

Victims are being held in makeshift cells, such as stables and sports halls, and are being tortured and held in stress positions for 48 hours, the group said.

Shocking pictures have emerged on social media appearing to show detained soldiers in cramped, inhumane conditions.

Amnesty’s European director John Dalhuisen said: “Reports of abuse including beatings and rape in detention are extremely alarming, especially given the scale of detentions that we have seen in the past week.

“The grim details that we have documented are just a snapshot of the abuses that might be happening in places of detention.”…”

  5. Turkey targets media after coup as Erdogan meets opposition

Ankara (AFP) – Turkish authorities on Monday issued arrest warrants for over 40 journalists in a new phase of the controversial legal crackdown after the failed coup, as President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was to host opposition party chiefs for an unprecedented meeting.

Over 13,000 people have been detained so far in a vast sweep in the wake of the July 15 coup bid, which the authorities blame on the reclusive US-based Islamic cleric Fethullah Gulen.

The crackdown has raised tensions with the European Union, further hampering Ankara’s stalled membership bid, while a potential diplomatic crisis with Washington is looming if the United States refuses to extradite Gulen to Turkey.

Istanbul anti-terror prosecutors issued arrest warrants for 42 journalists as part of the investigation into the failed coup, the state-run Anadolu news agency said.

Among those targeted by the warrants were prominent journalist Nazli Ilicak who was fired from the pro-government Sabah daily in 2013 for criticising ministers caught up in a corruption scandal, it added.

The government blamed the 2013 corruption scandal on Gulen, with some officials at the time calling it a coup bid aimed at ousting the president.

  6. ‘Law is suspended’: Turkish lawyers report abuse of coup detainees

housands of people taken into custody since Turkey’s attempted coup are being held in sports facilities and stables, where some have been beaten and mistreated, according to lawyers familiar with the cases.

Lawyers from the Ankara Bar Association’s human rights commission say members have reported the alleged abuses after trying to meet with clients. Other lawyers and human rights organizations have made similar allegations.

In addition to verbal and physical abuse, clients complained about a lack of food and that their hands have been bound for days, said Sercan Aran, deputy head of the commission. The mistreatment is “systematic,” he said, while lawyers have been prevented from documenting physical signs of beatings and abuse.

The Turkish government strongly denies the allegations, and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stressed in interviews that due process is being followed.

  7. China Bans Internet News Reporting as Media Crackdown Widens

China’s top internet regulator ordered major online companies including Sina Corp. and Tencent Holdings Ltd. to stop original news reporting, the latest effort by the government to tighten its grip over the country’s web and information industries.

The Cyberspace Administration of China imposed the ban on several major news portals, including Sohu.com Inc. and NetEase Inc., Chinese media reported in identically worded articles citing an unidentified official from the agency’s Beijing office. The companies have “seriously violated” internet regulations by carrying plenty of news content obtained through original reporting, causing “huge negative effects,” according to a report that appeared in The Paper on Sunday.

The agency instructed the operators of mobile and online news services to dismantle “current-affairs news” operations on Friday, after earlier calling a halt to such activity at Tencent, according to people familiar with the situation. Like its peers, Asia’s largest internet company had developed a news operation and grown its team. Henceforth, they and other services can only carry reports provided by government-controlled print or online media, the people said, asking not to be identified because the issue is politically sensitive.

  10. LINDA SARSOUR

Born in 1980 in Brooklyn, New York, Linda Sarsour is a Palestinian-American community activist who has served as executive director of the Arab American Association of New York (AAANY) since 2005. She is also a board member of the Muslim Democratic Club of New York (MDCNY), and a member of the Justice League NYC.

An outspoken critic of Israel, Sarsour supports the Boycott, Divestment & Sanctions (BDS) movement, a Hamas-inspired initiative that uses various forms of public protest, economic pressure, and court rulings to advance the Hamas agenda of permanently destroying Israel as a Jewish nation-state.

Vis-a-vis the ongoing Arab-Israeli conflict, Sarsour favors a one-state solution where an Arab majority and a Jewish minority would live together within the borders of a single country. She made clear her opposition to Israel’s existence as a Jewish state when she tweeted in October 2012 that “nothing is creepier than Zionism.”

Falsely maintaining that “Palestine existed before the State of Israel,” Sarsour seeks to help “bring back a Palestinian State for the Palestinian people.” To advance this agenda, Sarsour has tweeted images of fraudulent maps claiming to depict the “Palestinian loss of land” that supposedly occurred between 1946 and 2000.

As the head of AAANY, Sarsour has played a central role in pressuring the New York Police Department to terminate its secret surveillance of Muslim mosques and organizations suspected of promoting extremism or terrorism, and to curtail its use of “stop-and-frisk” anti-crime measures. In 2011 she worked in conjuction with Communities United for Police Reform, a coalition to advance the passage of the Community Safety Act (which expanded the definition of bias-based profiling and created an independent inspector general to review police policy in New York City). Sarsour also succeeded in pressuring City Hall to close New York’s public schools for the observance of the Islamic holidays Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.

In May 2012 Sarsour tweeted that the so-called “underwear bomber,” an al-Qaeda operative who on Christmas Day 2009 had tried to blow up a Detroit-bound passenger jet with explosives hidden inside his underwear, was actually a CIA agent participating in America’s “war on Islam.”

In 2013 Sarsour campaigned for New York City mayoral candidate Bill de Blasio. After de Blasio was elected, his office repeatedly featured Sarsour in press releases supporting the mayor’s positions on education and other matters. Moreover, his Mayor’s Fund pledged $500,000 to AAANY in 2016.

  11. Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan tells FRANCE24 how he escaped the military coup

    • Ties with Turkey will be impacted if U.S. doesn’t extradite Gulen: minister

Turkey’s ties with Washington will be impacted if the United States does not extradite the cleric it accuses of masterminding a failed military coup, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on Monday, adding he would meet with U.S. officials on the topic during a coming visit.

Cavusoglu made the comments in an interview with private broadcaster Haberturk TV. Turkey says cleric Fethullah Gulen, who has lived in self-imposed exile in the United States since 1999, was responsible for the July 15 coup attempt that aimed to overthrow the government.

Gulen denies the charge. Washington has said Ankara must first provide clear evidence of Gulen’s involvement in the attempted coup and lawyers have said any extradition process could take years.

  12. Merkel’s refugee policy was ‘reckless’: Left Party leader

The attacks carried out by refugees in Germany over the past week show that Merkel’s welcoming policy towards refugees was “reckless”, the Left Party’s (Die Linke) co-leader said on Monday.

“Although we must wait for a concrete explanation of the background of the attack in Ansbach, we can say this much: The events of the past few days show that the acceptance and integration of a large number of refugees and migrants is tied up with significant problems and is more difficult than Merkel tried to persuade us last autumn with her reckless ‘Wir schaffen es’ [we can do it],” the left-wing politician declared in a statement.

Around 200 nationalist militants attempted to break up a demonstration held by a Greek Muslim party in the Greek city of Komotini on Sunday, resulting in clashes with the police.

  14. Following ISIS Attacks, Arab Journalists Call To Acknowledge Existence Of Muslim Extremism; Reexamine Religious Texts

The large number of terrorist attacks carried out by ISIS in Western countries over the past year – including the July 14 truck attack in Nice, France (84 dead, some 100 wounded), the June 12 shooting at a nightclub in Orlando, Florida (49 dead, over 50 wounded), the March 22, 2016 combined attacks in Brussels, Belgium (32 dead, over 300 wounded), and the combined attacks in Paris, France in November 2015 (129 dead, 350 wounded) – has sparked a wave of harsh criticism in the Arab and Islamic world, both due to the fear of Western responses and the increase of Islamophobia, and due to the torrent of youths who flock to the extremist organization.

Alongside the many articles that stressed that terrorist attackers do not represent Islam and operate out of outside interests, there have been an increasing number of articles in the Arab media calling to acknowledge that Islam, and the obsolete interpretations of it that are still applied today, are indeed related to the wave of global terrorism. Writers called on Muslims to be honest and admit the existence of Muslim religious extremism instead of blaming others, and to uproot it. The writers argued that the source of ISIS’s extremist ideology is the Muslim social and cultural structure and that Muslims must therefore declare a war on this “cultural affliction” in their midst. According to them, this war requires fundamental reforms in Islamic interpretations alongside reforms in cultural, governmental and education patterns in Arab countries, which, they say, cause many Muslims to harbor covert sympathy for ISIS.

Many writers argued that most of ISIS’s religious practices are drawn from the most important Islamic law books, while stressing that these laws do not reflect explicit Koranic dictates, but rather the opinion of jurisprudents that lived in a certain reality that is no longer relevant today. Therefore, they explained that in order to rescue the universal values of Islam from the culture of ignorance, backwardness, and violence, the Islamic jurisprudents of today must critically and rationally review the history of Islam and its religious texts, and adapt Islamic interpretations and laws to the spirit of the times, while taking into account the current circumstances and the greater good. In their opinion, some Islamic dictates should even be cancelled altogether to conform with universal progressive values such as liberties and human rights.

  15. Ralph Peters:
Turkey and Erdogan: Here comes the (real) caliphate

Erdogan wants power for himself, but he also, sincerely, wants it for his faith. He’s a true believer and a megalomaniac. His ambitions will ultimately lead Turkey, its neighbors and, quite possibly, its blind, bewildered allies into a succession of bloody tragedies, but for now he has real support among half of the population, those for whom the fever of faith is the ultimate intoxicant. He polls better than Hitler did. “Mein Kampf” is no match for the Holy Koran.

  16. Like Stalin, Erdogan Likely to Be Left With No Personnel to Run, Defend Country, Israeli Expert Says

Like infamous Soviet leader Joseph Stalin in the wake of massive purges of perceived opponents, Turkey’s leader is liable to find himself in a predicament of the double-edged-sword variety — in the form of a severe shortage of professional manpower to run the country, an expert told the Hebrew news site Walla on Sunday.

Referring to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s ousting – so far — of more than 60,000 members of the government, the military, the police, academia, the media, the judiciary, the religious establishment and even the sports world, a Turkish-studies professor at Israel’s Ben-Gurion University said that Ankara’s greatest problem in the coming months will be rebuilding the country’s mechanisms practically from scratch.

Prof. Dror Ze’evi explained: “The public sector will crash. The education system, the judicial system, and [others] will be dealt a heavy blow… And the people Erdogan instates will be far less familiar with the areas they will be charged with handling and have no experience.”

    http://www.algemeiner.com/2016/07/24/like-stalin-erdogan-likely-to-be-left-with-no-personnel-to-run-defend-country-israeli-expert-says/

    • At the moment Erdogan only has two enemies that have the capabilities of taking advantage of his purge of enemies by attacking and destroying Turkey. The two enemies are Iran and Russia, since they are currently allies any attack will probably involve both attacking Turkey. The big question is how many of Turkey’s NATO allies will come to their aid?

The left in their quest for a world that they can take over and create their one world government have as usual been very short sighted and created the perfect storm for the destruction of civilization and freedom. Once again the Tree of Liberty must be fertilized with the blood of patriots and tyrants, the war is going to be long and violent with occasional breaks for each side to catch their breath and rearm.

  17. Germany: Public prosecution discuss suspected accomplices in Munich mall shooting

Chief of Criminal Division Hermann Utz confirmed, during a press conference, on Monday, a 16 year old is suspected of being connected to the man who killed ten people in the city’s Olympia Park Shopping Centre on Friday, before turning the gun on himself.

SOT, Hermann Utz, Chief of Criminal Division (German): “We have this problem of whether it is a single or several culprits. So that was our central endeavour, to establish whether we’re dealing with one or more. The one who was arrested yesterday was an important witness here; he had indicated knowing him – the first reference to various other aspects, we came to the understanding that we’re sure that we’re dealing with a single suspect. But, at the time on Friday, that was for us an important witness. We have, with what we know today, with what is regarding this issue, there is hardly any indication that we’re dealing with more than one culprit. We have arrested the 16 year old at 19:15 and looked through his apartment. Found were [INAUDIBLE] weapons, but all legally owned. [INAUDIBLE] and that is as far as the knowledge of the implemented measures.”

SOT, Thomas Steinkraus-Koch, Head Public Prosecutor for Munich I (German): “By now, the suspect is accused of, at least, having the mad gunman’s ammunition at this point; thereby it offers the possibility to us that the current suspect could have known something of the imminent crime, and we will examine this suspicion further.”

SOT, Thomas Steinkraus-Koch, Head Public Prosecutor for Munich I (German): “We have exchanged our information, it was thus indicating towards a killing spree.”

    • If they are still upset over that action they should wait until the current war is over, they will have reasons to be really upset.

The incident in Ghor followed after Zahra’s father got a new wife two years ago. At the time, he gave his daughter to a member of his new spouse’s family in order to settle the matter.

In Afghanistan, this practice is called bad dadan, where girls and women are given to settle a dispute between families, often a blood dispute. Zahra is an example of this practice.

    http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/India-asks-diplomats-in-Pakistan-to-withdraw-kids-from-local-schools/articleshow/53379701.cms

NEW DELHI: As tension simmers between India and Pakistan over recent developments in Kashmir, India has asked its diplomats and other officials to withdraw their kids from local schools in Islamabad.
Indian officials can either send their kids back to India or return themselves, official sources said.
“What it means is that no Indian official based in Pakistan can have his or her children living with them. Those who seek a posting in Pakistan will have to keep that in mind too,” an official here told TOI. Spouses, however, can remain in Pakistan for now.

    • It sounds like the Indian government doesn’t trust the Pakistan government to protect the families of the Indian diplomats. They may be expecting the tensions over disputed territory to turn into a shooting way and want the kids well out of danger. My money is on the second option.

  28. http://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/what-s-behind-russian-support-world-s-separatist-movements-n614196

What’s Behind Russian Support for World’s Separatist Movements?
    by MANSUR MIROVALEV
MOSCOW — Britain’s decision to leave the European Union is just the beginning, if some in the Kremlin have their way.

Northern Irish, Scottish, Basque, Catalan and Italian secessionists have been invited to Moscow for a conference, partly funded by Russia, planned for August. They will mingle with Texan, Californian, Puerto-Rican and Hawaiian wannabe-separatists from all over the world, the conference organizer says.

“Our goal is to consolidate efforts based on international legal standards [and] to achieve the very democracy the European Union and the United States talk about, but [the democracy] in its true meaning,” Alexander Ionov, head of the Anti-Globalist Movement of Russia, which is organizing the event, told NBC News.

    • With the exception of Brexit all of the separatist movements were started by the KGB with the goal of weakening the west. Putin is using the current mess created by the Western European left to split up the strong nations so there will be less chance of an effective opposition to Russia’s move to seize more territory in Europe and Asia. We on this blog (and many in the world) are concentrating on the Islamic invasion to the extent we don’t see Russia as anything but a source of salvation. The leaders in Russia (both under the Czars and the Communists) have all been expansion minded and willing to take large risks and often long shots to gain an advantage that will allow them to expand the Russian Empire.n

Several years back an article was posted about how we are seeing ancient and not so ancient empires being recreated. These are the Iranian Empire, the Turkish Empire and the Russian Empire. We in the west are hampered in our defense of our nations and culture by internal leftists that are seeking to create a one world government under their control and by the way the left has prevented the teaching of the facts of history so the younger generations don’t recognize the danger we are facing because they have never been taught what the worlds empires were really like.

The war to ensure the survival of freedom is going to be long and bloody with the possible lose of civilization being one of the costs of remaining free. The internal enemy has invited the enemy inside the gates and we are now having to convience people that we have to fight for the survival of freedom.

      • Funny thing, Pat Buchanon writes about the cataclysm we called The Great War resulted in the destruction of the Russian Empire and the Ottoman Empire. And here we are, 100 years later, maybe on the brink of a New World Order, if Turkey decides to carry out what seems to be a “political breakout” for want of a better term. We truly live in interesting times, maybe a LOT more interesting than the crystal ball would indicate a few months back. Whatever happens, the USA must rebuild it’s nuclear arsenal because it’s going to get a lot more dangerous forAmerica, as in “America Alone.”
