  1. Residents who voted against recognizing the Ahuntsic Cultural Centre as an official Muslim place of worship reject any suggestion ‘Islamophobia’ played a role in their decision. That’s because it isn’t about ‘Islamophobia,’ it’s about justified loathing and fear of Muslims and their supremacist ideology posing as a religion.

    • 87,000 serving personal!! How does anyone expect Western Europe to defend itself with the small number of military personal that the left has allowed the European nations to keep?

Wake up and smell the roses, the enemy/barbarians are already inside the gate but the west is still asleep. We can still win but the winning will require blood, sweat and tears as well as the probably loss of civilization. Of course the latter doesn’t really matter since losing will also result in the loss of civilization.

Viktor Orban claims the pro-migration attitude of Euro leaders are in opposition to their own countrymen.

Mr Orban believes this opposition between the people and the leaders is against the basic rules of democracy.

He said: “As Europe is based on democracy, sooner to later this will lead to trouble.

“Everyone can sense the silence and tension before the storm.”

The Hungarian PM also urged Europe to reconsider its foreign policy, because in recent years it has intervened in three countries – Iraq, Syria and Libya – and all three have collapsed, a state of chaos has ensued and millions of refugees have set out for Europe…”

  8. Nato countries begin largest war game in eastern Europe since cold war

The largest war game in eastern Europe since the end of the cold war has started in Poland, as Nato and partner countries seek to mount a display of strength as a response to concerns about Russia’s assertiveness and actions.

The 10-day military exercise, involving 31,000 troops and thousands of vehicles from 24 countries, has been welcomed among Nato’s allies in the region, though defence experts warn that any mishap could prompt an offensive reaction from Moscow.

A defence attache at a European embassy in Warsaw said the “nightmare scenario” of the exercise, named Anaconda-2016, would be “a mishap, a miscalculation which the Russians construe, or choose to construe, as an offensive action”.

Russian jets routinely breach Nordic countries’ airspace and in April they spectacularly “buzzed” the USS Donald Cook in the Baltic Sea.

The exercise, which US and Polish officials formally launched near Warsaw, is billed as a test of cooperation between allied commands and troops in responding to military, chemical and cyber threats.

    • This is a sick joke, 31,000 people isn’t a realistic response or threat. The Russians are laughing at the west and are probably thinking that if things don’t change quickly that they will be “liberating” all of Europe within a decade.

Civilizations normally fall from internal rot but normally the rot isn’t introduced by one political faction so they can create a dictatorship. It is not too late to save all of Europe but doing so will entail hard fighting that most won’t support until things are so bad that a fall of civilization is almost guarenteed.

  9. China tells U.S. to play constructive South China Sea role

BEIJING (Reuters) – China told the United States on Tuesday that it should play a constructive role in safeguarding peace in the disputed South China Sea, as U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry called for talks and a peaceful resolution.

China claims most of the South China Sea, through which $5 trillion in ship-borne trade passes every year. The Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Taiwan and Brunei have overlapping claims, as well as close military ties with the United States.

China has been angered by what it views as provocative U.S. military patrols close to islands China controls in the South China Sea. The United States says the patrols are to protect freedom of navigation.

Speaking at the end of high-level Sino-U.S. talks in Beijing, State Councillor Yang Jiechi, China’s top diplomat who outranks the foreign minister, said China had the right to safeguard its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights.

“China respects and protects the right that all countries enjoy under international law to freedom of navigation and overflight,” Yang told reporters.

Disputes should be resolved by the parties involved through consultation, he said.

“China hopes the U.S. will scrupulously abide by its promise to not take sides in relevant territorial disputes and play a constructive role in safeguarding peace and stability in the South China Sea,” Yang said.

    • A major confrontation is coming in the Far East, we are faced with the problem that our economy can’t survive without overseas trade and several of our major trading partners are in the Far East. The isolationists are making emotional responses to the threat of saying we should just pull out of that region. Pulling out would abandon our friends and allies in that region and later after they have fallen we would be confronted by China in Hawaii and would have to decide if we are going to give up one of our states or fight China without allies. If we rearm quickly and stand up to China we stand a chance of not having to fight China.

Make up your minds, we have no choice but to fight the Caliphate and fight to free Europe this will end up occurring no matter what we do. The question is will we do this while strong enough to face down China without a fight our will this occur while we are fighting China as well? Make up your minds how you want to enter the war because displaying weakness and trying to appease the aggressors never creates anything but slavery.

17 people did not go through preboard security screening at Charles de Gaulle airport

All passengers on an Air Canada flight from Paris to Toronto were forced to be rescreened on the tarmac after arriving in Canada last Friday after more than a dozen flyers did not receive proper security screening in France before getting on board.

The airline said crew aboard Air Canada Flight 881 on June 3 learned mid-flight that 17 of its passengers did not go through the required preboard security screening at Paris’s Charles de Gaulle airport. There were 325 passengers and 12 crew on board the flight.

Air Canada said the passengers were “misdirected” by staff at Charles de Gaulle after getting off a connecting flight from Sri Lanka and were supposed to go through more security. But that additional screening never happened.[…]

  14. Bernie’s Free College Isn’t Free
Bill Whittle’s epic takedown of Sanders’ con job on millennials.

Dear Millennials: College, like Health Care, isn’t free — it costs money. So who pays for it? YOU DO. Find out how in Bill Whittle’s latest Firewall.

    [Transcript]

Hi everybody. I’m Bill Whittle and this is the Firewall.

Bernie Sanders has bewitched a new generation of voting students by promising them free health care and free college.

So I’d like to address this brief video to you young people who are Bernie supporters and are in it for the free college. Can we just think this through for a minute? Please?

Let’s say Bernie Sanders gets elected, the Democrats run the table and now we have a socialist President and Congress and sure enough Bernie Sanders passes a bill that says that every American now gets free college.

    What does that mean?

Does it mean that the professors and coaches and administrators are going to come to work and not charge anybody? Is that what it means? Does it mean universities don’t have to pay telephone and internet and water charges and all the rest? Is that what it means? Does it mean that when the air conditioner comes on in a lecture hall, the school isn’t going to be billed for it? Is that what Free College means?

  16. MALARIA VICTIMS: HOW ENVIRONMENTALIST BAN ON DDT CAUSED 50 MILLION DEATHS

This is a story of triumph and tragedy. The triumph occurred in the middle part of the 20th century, when the larger part of mankind finally succeeded in overcoming the ravages of malaria, the deadly infectious disease that had afflicted the human race since the dawn of time (and which, by one estimate, had killed approximately half the people who had ever lived on earth). But within three decades, the triumph would give way to tragedy when leftist ideologues, professing concern for the integrity of the natural environment, collaborated to ban the use of the pesticide best known by the acronym DDT—the very substance that had made it possible to vanquish malaria from vast portions of the globe. By means of that ban, environmentalists effectively ensured that, over the course of the ensuing 30+ years, more than 50 million people would die needlessly of a disease that was entirely preventable.

Malaria is spread by protozoan parasites that are transmitted from person to person by female mosquitoes of the Anopheles genus. Symptoms of the disease include high fever, shaking chills, joint pain, headaches, muscle aches, fatigue, vomiting, anemia, hemoglobinuria, retinal damage, and convulsions. Malaria also has been found to cause cognitive impairments and neurologic damage, especially in children. And in 1 to 2 million cases each year, it results in the death of the victim.

According to Dr. Robert Desowitz, professor of tropical medicine at the University of North Carolina: “From colonial times until the 1940s, malaria was the American disease”—annually afflicting as many as 7 million Americans and killing several thousand. In 1936, for instance, some 3,900 U.S. residents died of malaria.

But these casualty figures were dwarfed by those of other countries. In India during the 1930s, for example, approximately 100 million people contracted malaria each year, and at least a million of them died as a result. In Africa, hundreds of millions of people per year became infected, and several million of them lost their lives as well.

    • RACHEL CARSON

The founder of the modern environmental movement in America, Rachel Carson was born on May 27, 1907. The youngest of three children, she grew up in a small farmhouse in rural Springdale, Pennsylvania. In 1929 Carson graduated from Pennsylvania College for Women (now Chatham College) with a BA in biology, and three years later received her MA in zoology from Johns Hopkins University. For a few years she taught zoology at both Hopkins and the University of Maryland while also continuing her studies at the Woods Hole Marine Biological Laboratory in Massachusetts. However, she was unable to finish her Ph.D. due to “familial obligations.”

In 1936 Carson received a full-time appointment as a junior aquatic biologist with the U. S. Bureau of Fisheries (now the Fish and Wildlife Service). She also wrote natural history features, focusing mainly on marine zoology, for the Baltimore Sun.

In 1941 Carson published her first book, Under the Sea-Wind. Five years later she was promoted to the position of information specialist, where she wrote pamphlets on conservation and edited scientific articles. In 1949 she became editor-in-chief for all Bureau of Fisheries publications. With the publication of her next two books, The Sea Around Us and The Edge of the Sea, Carson became a household name as a naturalist and science writer.

With the overwhelming success of her books, Carson in 1952 retired from the government to write full time. The constant thread running through Carson’s writings is the belief that mankind’s use of pesticides has tremendous power to “irreversibly” alter the natural world. She wrote: “Can anyone believe it is possible to lay down such a barrage of poisons on the surface of the earth without making it unfit for all life? They should not be called ‘insecticides’ but ‘biocides.’”

In 1962 Carson published Silent Spring, a manifesto warning about the deadly effects of DDT on plant and animal life, claiming that the pesticide caused cancer, genetic defects, and damage to the world’s food supply. Carson’s best-selling tome induced a manic wave of anti-pesticide hysteria and the author soon became a cause célèbre. She was the star witness at several Congressional hearings on the subject. Because of her book, anti-DDT sentiment grew so strong that the Environmental Protection Agency banned its use in the United States and in any nation receiving American foreign aid.

    • GREEN FOR ALL (GFA)

Green For All (GFA) was established in 2007 by Van Jones, who today serves as the organization’s president, and Majora Carter. Its founding purpose was to lobby for federal climate, energy, and economic policy initiatives rooted in the premise that capitalism is a principal driver of both environmental degradation and social injustice.

While “holding the most vulnerable people at the center of [its] agenda,” GFA aims to “build an inclusive green economy strong enough to lift people out of poverty” by “creating millions of quality jobs and careers.” The key to realizing this goal, the group explains, is to “leverag[e] government funding” in conjunction with “private investment.”

One of GFA’s first policy victories was helping to pass, as part of the 2007 Energy Independence and Security Act, the Green Jobs Act which authorized $125 million in annual taxpayer expenditures to train low-income minority workers for employment in a variety of green industries—in accord with GFA’s commitment to redistributing wealth by “mak[ing] sure people of color have a place and a voice in the climate movement.” That same year, GFA launched its Green Cities Program in collaboration with the Apollo Alliance.

From its inception, GFA portrayed itself as a continuation of the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.—in the sense that it was striving to improve the lives of those on the lower rungs of the socioeconomic ladder. The organization’s first conference—titled “The Dream Reborn”—was held on April 4, 2008, the fortieth anniversary of King’s assassination. This gathering was sponsored and funded by such entities as the Alliance for Climate Protection, the Liberty Hill Foundation, the Nathan Cummings Foundation, and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.

Also in 2008, GFA sought to amplify its Washington lobbying efforts by launching the Climate Equity Alliance, which aimed to “limit carbon emissions” by imposing—via a cap-and-trade arrangement—monetary penalties on companies with emissions above a certain level. For a list of additional key members of this Alliance, click here.

In local lobbying efforts, GFA in 2009 persuaded the U.S. Conference of Mayors—consisting of some 1,200 mayors nationwide—to sign on to the Local Government Green Jobs Pledge.

In 2008, GFA and Al Gore’s WE Campaign together created the Green For All Academy to train “leaders from low-income communities and communities of color,” and thereby “expand, educate and engage the base of support for climate solutions and a clean energy economy in America.” During its first two years of activity, this Academy trained some 100 Fellows, many of whom had previously worked for such prominent progressive organizations as the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Democracia USA, Global Exchange, Human Rights Watch, the Illinois League of Conservation Voters, MoveOn, Progressive Majority, and the Sierra Club. Other GFA Fellows had formerly worked for luminaries like Hillary Clinton and Dennis Kucinich.

Another of GFA’s major campaigns is its Retrofit America’s Cities Program, designed to “perform energy-efficiency retrofits” and upgrades to such items as the insulation, duct sealing, water heaters, HVAC units, windows, roofing, and doors in urban homes and apartments. For example, in 2009 GFA partnered with the city of Portland, Oregon to develop and launch Clean Energy Works, a home energy retrofitting program “designed to create quality jobs, social equity, and business growth while improving homes and reducing carbon emissions.” By 2014, the program had upgraded more than 3,500 homes and employed over 1,400 workers—“all while achieving targets for workforce and contractor diversity.” GFA later helped implement a similar $140 million initiative in Seattle, titled Community Power Works.

      • GREEN CROSS INTERNATIONAL (GCI)

Green Cross International (GCI) grew out of a January 1990 address in Moscow by then-Soviet General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev to the Global Forum on Environment and Development for Survival. At that event, Gorbachev proposed the creation of an organization that could apply the medical-emergency response model of the International Red Cross to ecological and environmental problems that transcended national boundaries. In June 1992, delegates at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro mandated Gorbachev (whose Soviet Union had by then dissolved) to create and launch such an organization. At the same time, Swiss National Council MP Roland Wiederkehr founded a “World Green Cross” which had a similar objective. The two groups merged in 1993 to form GCI, which was formally launched in Kyoto on April 18 of that year.

GCI’s mission is “to respond to the combined challenges of security, poverty and environmental degradation to ensure a sustainable and secure future.” Calling for a “concerted” international effort to “use sustainable sources of energy,” the organization contends that fossil fuels “are at best a transitionary source of energy due to their finite quantity as well as their harmful effects on the environment, which in turn will affect the security and economies of all nations.” Therefore, GCI and its national affiliates – which are active in more than 30 countries – collaborate on projects designed to “lower the cost and enhance the efficiency of sustainable energy sources such as solar power in order to compete with fossil fuels.” (GCI’s American affiliate is known as Global Green USA.)

In an effort to change people’s attitudes regarding energy use and conservation, GCI has established the so-called Earth Dialogues, public forums designed to “raise awareness and promote solutions worldwide by providing an opportunity for uninhibited conversation about many of the most pressing economic, environmental social and security issues in the world.” GCI also seeks to influence the public through its Education for Sustainable Development program, which aims to “infuse children and adults with a positive awareness of and responsibility for the environment.”

In addition to its pursuit of resource sustainability, GCI has established a number of initiatives under the rubric of “environmental security.” Most notably, the Legacy Program promotes “responsible destruction of chemical weapons stockpiles, cleaning of nuclear and chemical contamination, and the conversion of military bases for civilian use.” The Social Medical Care and Education Program provides psychotherapy, support groups, and educational opportunities for people afflicted with serious mental, physical, economic, and social problems “due to nuclear contamination and relocation.” This initiative focuses predominantly on affected areas of Russia, Belarus and the Ukraine – the latter being the site of the infamous 1986 Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident. Finally, the Post-War Environmental Analysis Program seeks to “push for greater understanding and awareness of the environmental damage caused by wars and conflicts.” Further, it lends humanitarian assistance aimed at promoting the “environmental rehabilitation of areas and regions that have been affected by conflicts.”

GCI has been granted consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council and with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. It is also an admitted observer organization with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

  18. Nigel Farage ‘legitimising racism’ for political ends, says Archbishop Welby

The Archbishop of Canterbury has launched a scathing attack on Ukip leader Nigel Farage, accusing him of giving “legitimisation to racism” for political ends.

The Archbishop of Canterbury has launched a scathing attack on Ukip leader Nigel Farage, accusing him of giving “legitimisation to racism” for political ends.

The Most Rev Justin Welby said claims by Mr Farage that staying in the European Union could lead to mass sex attacks like those on New Year’s Eve in Cologne were “inexcusable”.

He also expressed a “very, very major concern” that claims by the Leave campaign in the EU referendum about the impact of Turkey joining the European Union risked stoking anti-Muslim sentiment in the UK.

Giving evidence to the Commons Home Affairs Committee, the archbishop said that in the past, comments like those by Mr Farage – who described the threat to British women of Cologne-style attacks as the “nuclear bomb” in the referendum campaign – had themselves led to violence.

“I think that is an inexcusable pandering to people’s worries and prejudices,” he said.

“That is giving legitimisation to racism which I’ve seen in parishes in which I’ve served, and has led to attacks on people in those parishes. We cannot legitimise that.

“What that is is accentuating fear for political gain and that is absolutely inexcusable.”

Lord Green of Deddington, chairman of Migration Watch UK, which campaigns for tighter immigration controls, told the committee Mr Farage’s comments had been a “very mistaken thing to say”.

“I think it risks generating suspicions that may not be there. If such incidents do take place, then we will have to react to them but I don’t think we should in any way encourage that line of thinking,” he said.

In his evidence, Mr Welby – who refused to be drawn on whether he was for Leave or Remain – condemned comments by Mr Farage at the last general election that migrants with HIV should not be allowed in.

“It does not respect the dignity of the human person,” he said.

Asked about Mr Farage blaming migrants for a causing traffic jam in which he was held up, the archbishop replied: “Words fail me.”

He also said claims by the Leave campaign that a vote to Remain could result in large numbers of Turkish immigrants coming to Europe were leading to a “very high level of prejudice” against Muslims in the UK.

“It is a very, very major concern indeed. There is a sort of sense of ‘Are we about to become an Islamic country?’ which hovers around,” he said.

“Once you ask a number of questions, you realise it’s just fear and there is no evidence of any kind backing up what they are saying, but somehow it all feels very threatening and that results in a high level of prejudice against Muslims, and particularly OBSERVANT Muslims.”

He rejected any suggestion that adherents of a particularly religion could be barred from entering the country, as presidential contender Donald Trump is proposing for Muslims in the United States.

“It is certainly not a Christian thing to do, nor is it a rational thing to do,” he said.

The archbishop reiterated his view that many people had genuine concerns about the impact of mass migration without being racist.

He said it was up to the Government to ensure that the communities affected had the resources they needed to cope – particularly in terms of health, housing and education.

“That actually, in my experience, liberates the natural generosity of people to welcome once the causes or the reasons for fear have been dispelled – and they are quite easily dispelled,” he said.

  19. Russia: Putin greets Netanyahu in Moscow

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met in Moscow, Tuesday to mark the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Putin said that Russia and Israel “are in a constant contact” and “confirm the high level of relationship”. He spoke of Israel’s importance to Russia lying not just in its “key” geopolitical position regarding “the situation in the Middle East, but also due to the historical relations, which connect our countries”.

SOT, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia (Russian): “Respected Mr. Prime Minister, respected colleagues and friends! Let me welcome you to Moscow again. We are in a constant contact with you and confirm the high level of our relationship. But this is an official visit. It was scheduled in advance and is related to the 25th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic ties between Israel and Russia. We attach great importance to our contacts with Israel, not only because Israel is one of the key countries concerning the situation in the Middle East, but also due to the historical relations, which connect our countries.”

SOT, Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Prime Minister (Hebrew): “Mr President, I am always glad to visit Russia, always glad to meet you. We always have issues to discuss, there are always topics, which are important for our countries. These are technologies, agricultural and trade cooperation, regional problems. We have many common challenges, many common issues but this visit is special. We are marking the 25th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic ties between us and we will discuss how we can strengthen and develop these ties for next 25 years. I would like to thank you for such a warm welcome.”

    • Interesting in light of all the kissy-face going on between Bibi and Uncle Vlad:

Bibi just appointed Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman. He’s an ugly old Russian dubbed “farr rright-wing” by just about everybody. He brings to the coalition the party that represents most older generation Russian-Israelis. He and Bibi detest each other.

This is the fourth publicized visit; there’ve been others. Previously Bibi came either alone or brought military chiefs; this time he’s taking the wife.

Side note: It seems that Bibi and Putin can forgo interpreters, but only in private. In English? In Russian?

      • Probably Putin is suppose to be fluent in English.

Putin is up to something that requires Israel as an ally, Israel is looking for someone to provide small arms ammo to replenish that used in conflicts. I wish Obama hadn’t made it necessary for Israel to hunt for another supplier but understand why they are getting friendly with Russia.

I really wish I knew what Putin is doing? What ever it is is very important to him, the only thing I can think of is an attack on Turkey but it may be something else.

    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-36472099

“The French ex-trader Jerome Kerviel, whose unauthorised transactions lost his bank €4.9bn (£3.82bn), has won a claim for unfair dismissal.

A labour court said the bank, Societe Generale, had dismissed him not because of his actions, which it must have known of, but for their consequences.

The court ordered the bank to pay him €450,000 (£350,000) in damages.

A lawyer for the bank said it would be appealing a “scandalous” decision that ran counter to the law.

Mr Kerviel, 39, served a three-year jail term after being convicted of breach of trust and fraud in October 2010.

He was charged with gambling €50bn (£39bn) of Societe Generale’s money on trades without the bank’s knowledge, which nearly brought down the business…”

  21. IRAQ – KARBALA – At least 5 killed, 10 injured by car bomb in Karbala city, Iraq – report

A car bomb exploded in the center of the Shiite holy city of Karbala, Iraq, on Tuesday, with the Shiite community in the country marking the first day of Ramadan.

At least five people were killed and 10 others injured in the attack, Reuters reported, citing a security officer.

Al Jazeera has placed the number of those killed at eight, citing its sources. At least 24 people have been affected by the attack, the Arabic channel said.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

The city, which is located some 100km (62 miles) from the Iraqi capital, is considered to be the fourth-holiest site among the Shiite Muslims after Mecca, Medina and Al-Aqsa. It has been regarded as a generally stable city in Iraq, with the last car bomb attack having happened there in 2011, according to the Middle East Eye.

Isis bombing: Several killed by suicide car bomb in holy Iraqi city of Karbala

The terrorist group has carried out a wave of attacks in Iraq as it battles to retain control of Fallujah

Isis has killed at least seven people in a car bombing in the Iraqi city of Karbala, while terror attacks near Baghdad left several other victims dead.

Local reports said a suicide bomber detonated a vehicle packed with explosives in Karbala on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said at least seven civilians were killed and more than 20 people wounded in the attack, while Isis claimed it had killed and wounded 30 people.

In a propaganda statement, the so-called Islamic State said it had targeted members of the Popular Mobilisation Committees – mainly Shia militias fighting Isis alongside Iraqi government forces.

Local authorities did not confirm whether any fighters were among the dead but extremists have often attempted to used the same justification when massacring civilians.

Tuesday’s blast hit a commercial area near the governor of Karbala’s home in the city centre, several kilometres from its famed Imam Hussein Shrine, the al-Maalomah news agency reported.

Footage showed a huge column of smoke rising into the air from a building partially destroyed by the blast, with burning debris littering the streets.

Isis has carried out numerous bombings across Iraq in recent weeks as it continues to lose territory and fight to retain control of Fallujah.

Karbala is considered sacred by Shia Muslims, who the terrorist group have declared to be “apostates” and target in many of their attacks.

Tens of millions of people make pilgrimages to the city every year to visit the famous Imam Hussein shrine.

The attack came hours after another car bomb struck in Istanbul, killing at least 11 people. No group immediately claimed responsibility.

Baghdad and its surrounds have seen a string of almost daily attacks in recent weeks, but southern Iraq has largely been spared from the violence.

Separate bombings in and around the capital killed another seven civilians on Tuesday, police said.

  24. Zionism: An irrational and misunderstood fear
The biased, baseless outlook regarding Zionism in the Islamic world has over time warped into a misplaced phobia of Jewish people.

Nationalism spread across the world with the onset of the French Revolution in 1789, seeking to unite those of the same cultural background and the same language. However, among the hundreds of nationalist liberation movements, one is invariably singled out and placed at the center of sinister conspiracy theories – Zionism – which aspired to reunite and emancipate the Jewish people scattered around the globe.

Today, anti-Israelism under the guise of anti-Zionism has become the main expression of anti-Semitism, of enmity to Jews. An entire nation is targeted for verbal or physical violence simply because of their Jewish nationality. Despite the presence of 22 Arab countries, only the desire of the Jewish people to establish its own sovereign state has been subject to fierce opposition.

The claim of some Muslims that “they fight against the Jewish people in the name of the Koran” is an act of ignorance and in violation of the Koran since God explicitly grants the Jewish people the right to live in the Holy Land: “Remember when Moses said to his people, ‘My people! Remember God’s blessing to you when He appointed Prophets among you and appointed kings for you, and gave you what He had not given to anyone else in all the worlds. My people! Enter the Holy Land which God has ordained for you.'” (Koran 5:20-21).

God informs us in the Koran that the Jewish people shall gather and live in these lands in the End Times: “We said to the Children of Israel after that, ‘Dwell in the land and, when the promise of the hereafter comes, We will gather you as a mingled crowd.'” (Koran 17:104).

When the Arab-Muslim world recognizes Israel’s right to exist as an independent and sovereign state, the century-long bloodshed will cease. Moreover, once the Arab world decides to acknowledge Israel as a neighbor, it can focus on developing the well-being of the Palestinian people, and of the other Arab peoples doing far less well than the Palestinians, too.

  25. Is Germany going too far in trying to control right-wing extremists? (DW, June 7, 2016)
    http://www.dw.com/en/is-germany-going-too-far-in-trying-to-control-right-wing-extremists/a-19312584

“Leftist groups are often seen as something positive in Germany, a nation still dealing with its Nazi past. But radical left-wing militants are stepping up violent attacks on far-right groups and political parties.

Alexander Gauland, a prominent leader of the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD), is no stranger to controversy. ” A German or English soccer team hasn’t been German or English in the classical sense for a long time,” he remarked in “Der Spiegel” last week, alluding to the the number of non-ethnic Germans and Brits on the teams.

Before that, in his statement, saying playing soccer was alright, but that nobody would want the defender as their neighbor.

Gauland and the AfD continue to suffer intense media scrutiny and backlash for polarizing the country on several issues, including the refugee crisis, but the right-wingers have also been the victims of a growing number of attacks by left-wing radicals.

    The fight against ‘evil’

According to German newspaper “Die Welt,” the far-right party’s members registered 800 complaints for assault in the past one year. Earlier this year, Gauland’s private house in Potsdam was vandalized and offices of Carsten Hütter, the AfD’s representative in Saxony’s legislature, were broken into and smeared with brown paint. In December, left-wing activists demonstrating against a neo-Nazi rally in the eastern city of Leipzig injured 69 police officers and damaged nearly 50 official cars.

A study by the Berlin Senate’s Department of Internal Affairs in January noted that left-wing extremists were increasingly targeting people. Their strategies included ambushing police officers and subjecting conservative residents and businessmen to verbal and physical abuse and assaults.

Despite the damage, the German media and society’s focus on left-wing violence has been much less than , Werner J. Patzelt, political scientist at the Technical University of Dresden, told DW.

The reason, Patzelt said, was because “We have this concept in Germany that being left is basically good, being right is definitely bad and all means can be used in the fight against the bad. And violence is a legitimate means against the resurgence of fascism, Nazism, racism.”

    More tolerance for left-wing violence

Germany is not new to extremist left-wing violence. In the late 1970s, the Red Army Faction (RAF), also known as the Baader-Meinhof group, staged a series of assassinations and bombings against government officials in West Germany. However, the terrorist organization’s activities were perceived as targeting representatives of imperialism and the capitalist system, some of whom were linked to the Nazis, Patzelt told DW.

Militant left-wing activists continued to enjoy public acceptance in Germany. Last year, Parliamentary vice president Claudia Roth of the Green Party was accompanied by left-wing radicals in a protest march against the AfD in Hanover. The incident did not generate much interest in the media compared to the backlash faced by the AfD when it was linked to the anti-migrant PEGIDA movement.

According to political scientist Patzelt, such acts of violence against right-wing groups would only serve to bring them closer. “Because when you see that you are being threatened, that the constituency offices of the AfD are damaged several times, then it naturally strengthens the desire to rebel and the decision to not get intimidated.””

    • The new Nazi’s are rioting and attacking people in the name of fighting Nazi’s. I wonder what the historians of the 22nd Century will make of this time?

  26. On 100th Anniversary Of Sykes-Picot Agreement, Some Arab Writers Fear New Sykes-Picot Imposed By U.S., Russia; Others Argue That Internal Arab Strife Is The Real Danger

Marking the 100th anniversary of the Sykes-Picot agreement, which divided the Ottoman Empire into several territories and thus largely shaped the map of the Middle East as we know it today, the Arab press published many articles discussing this agreement and its outcomes. Some writers focused on the agreements’ adversary effects, and warned that the U.S. and Russia are currently formulating a new Sykes-Picot agreement that will subdivide the region’s states into even smaller states on a sectarian and ethnic basis. This, in order to further weaken the Arab world and subordinate it to their control. There were also articles that accused the Arab regimes of cooperating with this plan, consciously or unconsciously, and some accused Israel of being party to it.

Conversely, other writers claimed that the disintegration of the Arab world along ethnic and sectarian lines stems not from external plots but from the division and hatred that currently prevail among the Arabs.

Yet another approach was taken by Lebanese journalist Khairallah Khairallah. He wrote that the Sykes-Picot agreement was actually a “gift from heaven,” but the Arabs failed to take advantage of it. Instead of using it to develop states that benefit their people, they used it as an excuse to oppress their people and as to justify all their failures.

“An Al-Qaeda militant who worked as an interpreter on the German-Austrian border has been jailed for two years in Austria for sharing fundamentalist propaganda.

The 29-year-old man entered the country as an asylum seeker and managed to get a job working as a translator in the Bavarian town of Freilassing.

But he was arrested for being an Al-Nusra Front militant when photos were found on his phone during a security check which showed him wearing combat gear and wielding a machine gun. Islamist propaganda texts were also found on the device.

The man claimed that he had only taken the pictures on his phone so that he could escape from Syria by pretending to support the Islamist cause.

When asked if he used them for propaganda or anything else, he denied it and said he didn’t even properly understand how Facebook worked, insisting that he was a pacifist.

But the court heard that the images had been shared by the man on his Facebook page despite him claiming he did not understand how the social media platform worked. They found that he had also boasted to other people from his homeland that he had fought in Syria…”

“The EU has rejected a controversial suggestion from Austria’s foreign minister that asylum seekers should be kept on islands rather than be allowed direct access to the continent.

Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz had suggested that Europe follows the “Australian example” of turning back asylum seekers and migrants who arrive there by boat, to discourage migrants from setting out on the often perilous journey to Europe.

The idea was widely criticised by other Austrian politicians and now the European Commission has also rejected the idea.

  29. Why Ramadan fasting is a challenge in northern Sweden (thelocal, June 7, 2016)
    http://www.thelocal.se/20160607/why-ramadan-fasting-is-a-challenge-in-northern-sweden

“The Islamic holy month of Ramadan is now under way, and for Muslims in some parts of Sweden, fasting can be a particularly tough task.

The standard fast time observed during the month is from dawn until dusk. In Sweden’s northernmost cities like Kiruna however, where the sun doesn’t really set during the summer, there is the potential for confusion. Not to mention discomfort.

In an effort to help, Sweden’s Islamic Association (Islamiska Förbundet) is pointing concerned Muslims in the direction of special rules.

“There are many questions about this every day,” Islamic Association spokesperson Mahmoud Khalfi told The Local.

“Today I’ve already had at least eight calls about it. Muslims from all over Sweden are calling us, and we can help them with it.”

The association points to guidance advice from the European Council for Fatwa and Research, which details adjustments for fasting Muslims in the northernmost parts of the world.

“Experts have looked at the issue and settled on a way to work it out. The fast is adjusted to the time that there was last properly dusk and dawn in the area. So in Kiruna for example, the fast is adjusted to late March. Around the 20th of that month.”

For Muslims in Kiruna that would mean the fast time is the equivalent of those in Stockholm. That doesn’t mean it will be easy, however.

“Muslims in Kiruna can fast as if they lived in mid-Sweden, around Stockholm or Örebro,” Khalfi explained. “It’s quite a long day in any case: the fast still lasts for around 18 hours. But one can cope.””

  32. “Labour Camps” House Nearly 60% of Qatar’s Population

Nearly 60% of Qatar’s residents live in what the government calls “labour camps,” according to an April 2015 census report released by Doha on Sunday.

Qatar’s Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) found that 1.4 million people reside in what the department described as “labour camps,” Agence France-Presse reported. At the time of the survey, the Gulf monarchy had a population of about 2.4 million. Nearly all of those living in the camps were men.

Qatar has come under international criticism in recent years over the harsh living and working conditions endured by its large migrant workforce, which is building the country’s infrastructure for the 2022 World Cup competition. Qatar utilizes a system of labor known as kafala, under which migrant workers must have a sponsor in order to enter and leave the country, effectively rendering them fully dependent on their host companies.

Documented abuses in the system include workers not being paid or having their wages significantly lowered, abysmal working and living conditions, and even death.

Last week, 11 people were killed and another 12 injured after a fire broke out in one of the camps that host the workers.

Qatar’s treatment of its migrant workforce came increased scrutiny when it arrested a BBC crew investigating the conditions that laborers were forced to endure last year, as well as when it refused to allow Nepalese workers to return home last April following a devastating earthquake in that country.

Qatar created an agency to polish its image following those scandals, but has not necessarily improved conditions for the workers.

Nepalese migrants building World Cup infrastructure died at a rate of one every two days in 2014, The Guardian reported.

“Russia’s media is run by a group of Armenians, while the German media is not free, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavu?o?lu has claimed.

Speaking during an interview with Turkish broadcaster TRT Haber, Çavu?o?lu said the Russian media was run by Armenians, who held key positions in the press, and were trying to poison the Russian nation against Turks.

“They especially try to poison the Russian nation against the Turkish nation but as can be seen, they haven’t been very successful,” Çavu?o?lu said June 7.

Turkey and Russia have been at odds since the former downed a warplane of the latter on Nov. 24, 2015, on the grounds of an airspace violation on its border with Syria.

Çavu?o?lu said the Russian media was putting forth a picture as though Turkey had downed the Russian jet inside Russian territory and was thus conducting black propaganda.

The foreign minister also commented on the media in Germany, declaring it be unfree.

Giving an example of German newspapers from various political lines choosing headlines that were critical of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an, Çavu?o?lu said this was proof that the German media were not free.

“No media is free in Germany. If so, how could [various newspapers from different political lines] make anti-Erdo?an headlines?” he asked.

Çavu?o?lu said everything was systematic in Germany and that a recent bill recognizing the World War I-era killings of Anatolian Armenians at the hands of Ottomans as “genocide” was also a part of this systematic approach.

Turkey recalled its ambassador to Germany for consultations after the bill was passed on June 2.”

“(ANSA) – Brussels, June 7 – The European Union is planning to revise its Blue Card system which allows highly-skilled non-EU citizens to work and live in member states, by abolishing national programmes and creating one unified scheme. The Blue Card directive was adopted by member states in 2009, excluding Denmark, Ireland and Britain. The revised scheme, which will also open it to refugees, is expected to lead to a positive economic impact of between 1.4 billion and 6.2 billion euros per year.

Migration Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos presented the revised initiative to the EU parliament on Tuesday.
