  1. Britain WILL accept Syrian migrant children from refugee camps, Immigration Minister says (express, May 10, 2016)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/668739/Britain-will-Syrian-migrant-children-refugee-camps-David-Cameron-Brokenshire

“CHILDREN from refugee camps in Europe will be resettled in Britain, the Immigration Minister has confirmed.

James Brokenshire said taking unaccompanied children from camps in Greece, Italy and France is the “right thing to do”.

But Mr Brokenshire claimed the number that will be taken by Britain has not yet been confirmed by the Government.

The Tories have come under serious pressure after a bid by peers to amend the Immigration Bill was defeated by MPs…”

  2. Tory MP attacks ‘cruel’ Government for letting lone refugee children into Britain (express, May 10, 2016)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/668736/Gerald-Howarth-refugee-crisis-politics-David-Cameron

“THE Government’s plan to let unaccompanied refugee children into Britain sends out a “dangerous signal”, an ex-minister has claimed.

MPs have agreed to resettle youngsters from European camps in the UK after accepting a new amendment from the Lords.

But a Tory backbencher yesterday said parents will be encouraged to “dispose” of their children in “soft touch” Britain.

Sir Gerald Howarth added that vulnerable children in his Aldershot constituency should be prioritised over those from overseas…”

  3. Divisions sparked by mass immigration could lead to CATASTROPHE, says ex-equalities chief (express, May 10, 2016)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/668684/Mass-immigration-CATASTROPHE-Trevor-Phillips

“BRITAIN could “sleepwalk to a catastrophe” unless it takes “a more muscular” approach to tackling the divisions which large-scale immigration has opened up, a former equalities watchdog has warned.

Trevor Phillips forecast conflict between communities and the undermining of Britain’s rights and values unless the country abandoned past “squeamishness, complacency and liberal self-delusion” about the problems which racial, religious and cultural differences can produce.

His recommended steps include ensuring English is the standard working language, requiring public bodies to promote integration and curbing limits on free speech.

His rallying cry is part of a pamphlet, Race and Faith: The Deafening Silence, published today by the thinktank Civitas.

The writer and TV producer, a former chairman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, argued that Britain is living in a new era of “superdiversity” with different groups of people arriving in greater numbers than ever before.

This required a shift from Britain’s traditional approach of gradual and natural integration to a more active policy.

He wrote: “In my view, squeamishness about addressing diversity and its discontents risks allowing our country to sleepwalk to a catastrophe that will set community against community, endorse sexist aggression, suppress freedom of expression, reverse hard-won civil liberties, and undermine the liberal democracy that has served this country so well for so long.

“Worst of all it may destroy popular support for the values that have, in my opinion, characterised the greatest political advances in my lifetime: equality and solidarity.”

Many liberal-minded people had in the past been reluctant to accept that different values and customs held by some groups of people made integration hard, for fear of stigmatising minorities, he argued.

Attempts to ask if some disadvantages suffered by minorities could be self-inflicted was condemned as “blaming the victim” while the focus of debate was placed “on the historic prejudices of the dominant majority … white racism.

“This stance just won’t do any more.

“In fact, in today’s superdiverse society, it is dangerously misguided.

“Social liberals have to make a decision. Do we stand by our fundamental values at the risk of offending others; or should our desire to preserve social unity be allowed to compromise much of the social progress of the past half century?”….”

  4. Turkey’s STRATEGIC GOAL is to join the EU and visa deal is a major step, says Erdogan (express, May 10, 2016)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/668630/Turkey-DETERMINED-to-join-EU-and-visa-exemption-deal-will-accelerate-process-says-Erdogan

“TURKEY’S controversial visa deal is a major step in the country’s “strategic goal” of joining the European Union, leader Tayyip Erdogan declared.

It comes just days after the president said Ankara would not change its terror laws as part of the EU agreement declaring “we’re going our way, you go yours”.

In a desperate bid to repair damage after the outburst, Erdogan today insisted it was his great aim to join the bloc, saying: ”EU membership, a strategic goal for Turkey, will be a source of stability and inspiration for the region.

“I hope that the agreed visa exemption deal will relieve some of the frustration caused by more than 50 years of waiting at the EU’s gates… and that it accelerates Turkey’s accession process.”

The EU had asked member states to grant visa-free travel to Turks in return for Ankara stopping migrants from reaching Europe, but the deal is being held up because Turkey still had to change some legislation, including bringing its terrorism laws in line with EU standards.

Turkey has repeatedly said without visa liberalisation, there would be no migrant deal.

Concerns are rising in Europe that the deal may collapse after last week’s announcement by Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, the main Turkish broker of the accord, that he will step down amid tensions with Erdogan.

Turkey’s foreign ministry spokesman Tanju Bilgic said Ankara would develop the “necessary policies” on visa liberalisation with the EU and would implement them in line with Erdogan’s recent statements.

Erdogan’s reaffirmation of Turkey’s EU aspirations comes amid growing unease within the 28-nation bloc about what is viewed as the Turkish president’s authoritarian style of leadership and his intolerance of media criticism.

Terror laws have been used to clamp down on the media and any other dissent against the government….”

  6. Russia to test unstoppable ‘Satan 2’ stealth nuke capable of wiping out an ENTIRE NATION

Russia is preparing to test-fire a nuclear weapon which is so powerful it could reportedly destroy a whole country in seconds.

The “Satan 2” missile is rumoured to be the most powerful ever designed and is equipped with stealth technology to help it dodge enemy radar systems .

This terrifying doomsday weapon is likely to strike fear into the hearts of Western military chiefs, as current missile defence technology is totally incapable of stopping it.

Its official name is the RS-28 Sarmat and it will replace aging Soviet R-36M missiles, which NATO military experts nicknamed “Satan”.

“In this sense, the Sarmat missile will not only become the R-36M’s successor, but also to some extent it will determine in which direction nuclear deterrence in the world will develop,” the Russian news network Zvezda reported .

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/tech/russia-test-unstoppable-satan-2-7935675

    • I want to know a lot more before I worry about this missile. First the warhead sounds like one of the multimegaton warheads of the early 1960s. Those were discarded because they wasted most of the expolsive power, there were expensive to build but smaller warheads would achieve the same amount of damage.

Second I want to know if the stealthing really works or if the high speed is what is protecting the missile? The former can be overcome but not as fast as the latter.

  7. Munich knife attack: One dead as man shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’ attacks four at train station in Grafing, Germany

Attacker known to police for drug abuse, says minister

It appears increasingly likely that the Munich knife attacker was suffering from psychological problems, writes Justin Huggler.

The 27-year-old, who has been named as Paul H, was known to the police for drug abuse and “mental disorders”, Joachim Herrmann, the Bavarian state interior minister, told reporters.

Police stopped him recemtly because he was behaving abnormally, but took no further action, he said.

According to unconfirmed reports he was stopped on Sunday at a techno music festival. He was in possession of drugs at the time, and had consumed a “massive” quantity.

An eyewitness has described the attack to Bild newspaper.

“I heard screams, I saw a man lying on the ground, begging a man who stood over him. ‘I love God, I love Allah,’ he was saying, obviously to save himself,” the newspaper quoted the witness, who has not been named, as saying.

Paul H was wearing “blood-soaked socks” he said. “I have no idea where his shoes were. As he walked away, the man on the floor to him and whimpered: ‘That guy stabbed me in the back!'”

Joachim Herrmann, the Bavarian interior minister, said he had confessed to carrying out the atrocity.

He told the DPA news agency the suspect was not previously known to police for extremism but had psychological problems and drug issues.

A spokesperson for the state prosecutor’s office confirmed that the attack was believed to have a political or “Islamist background” but could not give any further details.

[…]Angelika Obermayr, the mayor of Grafing, told N-TV local people were in shock in the “quiet little town”.

“Something like this is completely new and has shaken people deeply – it is something you only see on television,” she added.

“That it happened here is completely incomprehensible.”[…]

  8. U.S. Warship Challenges China’s Claims in South China Sea

The U.S. Navy sent its third warship in less than seven months into China-claimed waters of the South China Sea as tensions rise ahead of an international court’s ruling on the territorial dispute.

    QuickTake Territorial Disputes

The USS William P. Lawrence, a guided-missile destroyer, on Tuesday sailed within the 12-nautical-mile territorial zone around Fiery Cross Reef, a feature in the Spratly Islands where China has dumped hundreds of thousands of tons of sand and coral to create an island on which it has built an airstrip. The transit was a “freedom-of-navigation” operation by the U.S. military to demonstrate the right to fly and sail through what it considers international waters and airspace.

The reef is also claimed by the Philippines, which is contesting China’s claim to more than 80 percent of the South China Sea based on a 1947 Chinese map known as the nine-dash line, along with reefs and atolls in the waters. An arbitration tribunal hearing the case under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea is expected to make a ruling by mid-2016. China has refused to participate in the arbitration, arguing that the tribunal lacks jurisdiction and that such disputes should be settled bilaterally.

The U.S. operation was first reported by the Wall Street Journal and later confirmed by the Pentagon.

    http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-05-10/u-s-sends-warship-to-challenge-china-s-south-china-sea-claim

    • With luck a incredibly strong typhoon will come through and suck all of the fill off the reef, I don’t expect this to happen but one can hope.

By the way where are the environmentalists protesting this destruction of the environment?

  9. Say goodbye to OPEC, powerful Putin pal predicts

MOSCOW (Reuters) – Internal differences are killing OPEC and its ability to influence the markets has all but evaporated, top Russian oil executive Igor Sechin told Reuters in some of his harshest remarks ever about the oil cartel.

Russia, which has been hit hard by the oil price collapse, was flirting with the idea of cooperating with OPEC in recent months until tensions between OPEC members Saudi Arabia and Iran ruined a global deal to freeze output.

Sechin – one of the closest allies of President Vladimir Putin – was the only Russian official to consistently oppose the deal with OPEC even after the Kremlin effectively endorsed the plan.

Now that his gloomy predictions about talking to OPEC have come to pass, Sechin feels vindicated and wants to help Russia avoid similar embarrassment in future.

“At the moment a number of objective factors exclude the possibility for any cartels to dictate their will to the market. … As for OPEC, it has practically stopped existing as a united organization.”

“The company (Rosneft) was skeptical from the very beginning about the possibility of reaching any sort of joint agreement with OPEC’s involvement in current conditions,” said Sechin, in comments over the weekend which were embargoed until Tuesday.

“Just to remind you, the only one question with which we responded to those who were interested to know our position: ‘Who should we agree with, and how?’ The development of the situation has clearly shown we were right.”

    http://www.oann.com/exclusive-say-goodbye-to-opec-russias-sechin-says/

    • OPEC was set up to weaponize oil and keep the price high so the Mid East could attack the nations that didn’t do what they wanted. This situation is now changing with the collapse of the USSR and Venezuela and hte raise of the new Caliphate. The fighting to see which cult of Islam will control the Caliphate and who will be Caliph are causing the Saudi’s turn oil into a weapon against Iran and their Russian backers, they do this by keeping the price of oil low. The leftwing economists and the people who are owned by Saudi cry that the worlds economy will only recover when the price of oil is high but this is wrong, the worlds economy is being helped by the low prices and will benefit more when it drops lower.

What we need is more oil exploration and drilling by non OPEC countries to break theMideastern dependence of Europe and allow other nations to share in the benefit of low oil prices due transporting the oil short distances. This will also remove a lot of money that is now going to support the jihad invasion of all Western nations.

  10. Ferguson, Missouri police to stress safety, not fines: new chief

FERGUSON, Mo. (Reuters) – Ferguson, Missouri, the site of violent protests after a white officer shot and killed an unarmed black teenager in 2014, on Monday swore in an African American police chief who said his focus is on making the community safer, not more profitable.

“Government is not designed to make a profit,” said Delrish Moss, a 51-year-old veteran of the Miami Police Department, referring to past Justice Department complaints of aggressive ticketing of African Americans by the police to boost city funds through fines. “Ferguson knows now that that is not the way to do things.”

His swearing in comes less than three weeks after a federal judge approved an agreement to reform Ferguson’s police department and municipal law code. The reforms are intended to fix what the U.S. Justice Department has called widespread racial bias in the city’s police department.

Moss, ahead of his installation, said his experience in Miami has been a training ground for Ferguson and his goal is to make the community safer. He was officially sworn in shortly after 3 p.m. CDT (4 p.m. ET).

The racial composition of the police in Ferguson, a St. Louis suburb of 21,000, has been a source of controversy since most officers are white, while two-thirds of the town’s residents are black.

  11. Putin hopes cooperation with U.S. will fundamentally change situation in Syria

SOCHI, Russia (Reuters) – The situation in Syria remains complicated, but Russia hopes that its cooperation with the United States will lead to fundamental changes in this country, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday.

Putin, meeting his top generals in the Black Sea resort of Sochi, said Russian air forces had made more than 10,000 sorties since the start of Moscow’s military campaign in Syria last year.

Strategic bombers have flown on 178 sorties to Syria, and a total of 115 cruise missiles have been launched to hit targets in the country from Russian warships, submarines and strategic bombers, Putin said.

  12. Iraq: ISIS fighters flee in terror from this uniquely effective special weapon

Even ISIS is sometimes hapless and unprepared. But it can take a very special warrior to reveal that.

In a recent firefight in northern Iraq, one such warrior was on-hand to give ISIS fighters more than they bargained for. (H/t: Task and Purpose) The warrior’s name is as yet unrevealed. All the public knows is that it was a German shepherd military working dog.

British special forces (SAS) soldiers who had been training Kurdish Peshmerga were caught in the firefight when their four-vehicle convoy was ambushed by ISIS. One of the vehicles struck an IED, and the soldiers had to fight from improvised positions when they came under heavy fire. As they tried to make their position more defensible, they were hit from the rear.

  13. Egypt satirical group ‘arrested over insulting video’ (BBC, May 10, 2016)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-36256451

“Five members of an Egyptian group whose satirical videos have mocked President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi have been arrested, their lawyer says.

Four of the six men in Atfal al-Shawarea (Street Children) were held on Monday on suspicion of insulting state institutions and inciting protests.

The fifth was detained on Saturday on similar charges.

Last week, they posted a video online that criticised the crackdown on anti-Sisi demonstrations and journalists.

More than 1,200 people were detained in April after people took to the streets to protest against the president’s controversial decision to hand over control of two Red Sea islands to Saudi Arabia.

At least 577 people are reportedly facing charges including violating a law banning unauthorised public gatherings of more than 10 people.

The government has also been condemned by the journalists’ union for sending police into its headquarters this month to arrest two journalists from a website critical of the president. Prosecutors have accused the two journalists of inciting the protests….”

  14. VICE NEWS – Persecution In Myanmar: Left For Dead (Part 1)

In recent years, democratic reforms have swept through Myanmar, a country that for decades was ruled by a military junta. As the reforms took hold, however, things were growing progressively worse for the Rohingya, a heavily persecuted ethnic Muslim minority concentrated in the country’s western state of Rakhine.

The 2012 gang rape and murder of a Buddhist woman by three Muslim men ignited violent riots in which hundreds were killed as Rakhine Buddhists and Rohingya attacked each other. In the following months, tens of thousands of Rohingya were rounded up and forced to live in squalid camps; Human Rights Watch deemed the attacks crimes against humanity that amounted to ethnic cleansing of the Rohingya. Thousands of Rohingya have since attempted to leave the country, fueling the region’s intricate and brutal human trafficking network.

In part one of our three-part series, VICE News correspondent Danny Gold travels to Myanmar to investigate the violence and discrimination faced by the country’s Muslim minority.

  15. Afghan ‘Islamists’ held in Italy ‘targeted London’ (BBC, May 10, 2016)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-36256675

“Police in the port city of Bari in southern Italy have arrested two Afghan men suspected of plotting jihadist attacks in Italy, France and the UK.

Three other Afghans are still being sought, two of whom may have gone back to Afghanistan, Italian media report.

Video clips and photos on the two detainees’ mobile phones suggest that they were targeting landmarks in Bari, Rome, Paris and London for attacks.

They included hotels in London’s West India Quay and Royal Victoria Dock.

The detained suspects were named as Hakim Nasiri, 23, and Gulistan Ahmadzai, 29.

Several photos released by police show Mr Nasiri posing with a rifle in a shop or warehouse.

The apparent targets they picked in Rome were the Circus Maximus and Colosseum. Police believe the Afghans had formed a jihadist cell linked to so-called Islamic State (IS)…”

“Jordan’s foreign minister says that Palestinian statehood is the most important issue now facing the world and that it fuels extremism gripping the Mideast.

Nasser Judeh made the comment on Tuesday at the Arab Media Forum in Dubai.

Judeh says the “Palestinian cause represents the essence of the conflicts and crises in the region.”

He added that “every day of delay where the international community does not exert pressure toward reaching a fair and just settlement of the Palestinian cause will lead to another day of darkness where the forces of extremism and terrorism can act. Then humanity as a whole will pay the price.”

Peace talks between Israel and Palestinian authorities on a two-state solution have stalled. Israel’s Foreign Ministry declined to comment on Judeh’s remarks.”

  18. gateway pundit : REPORT: Hillary’s Emails Hacked by Russia – Kremlin Deciding Whether to Release 20,000 Stolen Emails (VIDEO)

The Kremlin is debating whether to release the 20,000 emails they have hacked off of Hillary Clinton’s server.

According to a report from four days ago, beginning in 2011, the Russians began monitoring Romanian computer hacker Marcel Laz?r Lehel (aka Guccifer) after he attempted, unsuccessfully, to break into the computer system of the Russian funded RT television network.

After monitoring Guccifer, the Russians were reportedly able to record (both physically and electronically) his actions which allowed the Russian intelligence analysts, in 2013, to not only detect his breaking into the private computer of Secretary Clinton, but also break in and copy all of its contents as well.

The report notes that shortly after Russia obtained Clinton’s emails, they released a limited amount to RT TV which were published in an article in March 2013, titled Hillary Clinton’s ‘hacked’ Benghazi emails: FULL RELEASE.

  19. UK police apologise for Muslim phrase in terror exercise

British police apologised on Tuesday after officers shouted the Arabic phrase “Allahu akbar!” during a terror training exercise in a shopping centre in northern England.

In video footage of the exercise broadcast on British television, a masked man dressed in black could be seen running into the complex in Manchester shouting the words before setting off a bomb and falling to the floor.

“On reflection, we acknowledge that it was unacceptable to use this religious phrase immediately before the mock suicide bombing, which so vocally linked this exercise with Islam,” said Garry Shewan, a senior officer at Greater Manchester Police.

In a statement, Shewan said the scenario had been based on “a suicide attack by an extremist Daesh-style organisation” — Daesh being an Arabic acronym for the Islamic State group — but added: “We recognise and apologise for the offence that this has caused.”

The phrase is Arabic for “God is greatest.”

Tony Lloyd, mayor of Greater Manchester, said using the phrase was “ill-judged, unnecessary and unacceptable”.

“It didn’t add anything to the event, but has the potential to undermine the great community relations we have in Greater Manchester,” he said.

The role play exercise on the outskirts of Manchester involved 800 people, including actors made up to resemble gunshot victims with horrific injuries.

Police said there was no specific threat in Manchester and that the exercise was devised in December a month after the Paris attacks which killed 130 people and were claimed by Islamic State militants.

Britain’s terror threat level remains at severe, which means the security services consider an attack to be “highly likely”.

“BRITAIN will need to build almost TWO MILLION new homes just to cater for immigrants arriving from the EU if we do not vote to leave the Brussels club, a senior Tory has warned today.

Iain Duncan-Smith said we will need to create 240 houses every day for the next 20 years to cope with a huge wave of immigration from eastern Europe as he blasted the EU’s uncaring elite.

  24. France extends state of emergency for Euro 2016, Tour de France (france24, May 10, 2016)
    http://www.france24.com/en/20160510-france-extends-state-emergency-euro-2016-tour-de-france

“France’s parliament voted on Tuesday to extend a state of emergency in place since November’s jihadist attacks to the end of July to cover the Euro 2016 football tournament and Tour de France.

The upper house Senate approved the measure by a large majority, with 309 in favour and only 30 against, mostly from the communist and ecologist parties.

The emergency was imposed following the November 13 attacks that left 130 people dead in the French capital, and was already extended by three months in February until May 26.

    http://www.thelocal.de/20160510/erdogan-launches-bid-to-gag-germanys-biggest-publisher

“A German court on Tuesday threw out a bid by Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for an injunction against the boss of German media giant Axel Springer in a widening row over free speech.

Erdogan had sought a court order to stop the media group’s chief Mathias Döpfner from repeating support for a TV satirist who crudely insulted the Turkish leader.

The legal action came after Döpfner published an open letter in one of the group’s newspapers, in which he backed Jan Boehmermann — the satirist who in a poem accused Erdogan of bestiality and watching child pornography.

But the court dismissed Erdogan’s application on the basis of the “constitutionally guaranteed right of the defendant to the freedom of expression”.

“When a potential conflict arises between the fundamental right to the freedom of expression and the personal rights of the plaintiff, it is admissable for Doefpner to publicly express an opinion in this controversial debate,” said Christina Harpering, spokeswoman for the Cologne court….”

    http://www.thelocal.de/20160510/majority-of-christian-refugees-suffer-abuse-in-homes-report

“A huge majority of Christian refugees have been the subject of some form of harassment during their time in refugees homes, a report by a charity has found.

The study published in Berlin on Monday by Open Doors, a Christian aid organization set up in 1955, found that over 80 percent of Christian refugees had been harassed by Muslims at refugee camps.

In particular life was made difficult for Iranians and Afghans who had converted to Christianity.

“Discrimination and violence against people of different beliefs exist in refugee centres much more extensively than authorities want to believe,” said Markus Rode, head of Open Doors.

“Converts are most exposed. They are seen as traitors by radical Muslims,” he added.

Around half of the 231 refugees who were interviewed between February and April for the report also said they felt disadvantaged or bullied by Muslim guards who worked at the refugee centres.

The religious spokesperson for Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party, Franz Josef Jung, said he took the findings seriously.

“Refugees should not have the feeling that they face the same persecution as they did in the homeland when they arrive here,” he said….”

  28. Majority of Moroccans Rejects Secularism: Study (moroccoworldnews, May 9, 2016)
    http://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2016/05/186169/majority-of-moroccans-rejects-secularism-study/

“The findings of a recent study show that the majority of Moroccans reject secularism.

The study conducted by the Tunisian institution Sigma in partnership with the German Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the Arab Observatory of Religions and freedoms shows that Moroccan Algerian, Libyans and Egyptians are highly religious, while Tunisians remain an exception in the region.

The results of the study, which have not yet officially been released were revealed by the French Website Jeune Afrique. The questionnaire focused on three main aspects: the relationship of the respondents with Islam and political Islam, the respondents’ attitudes towards Islamic extremism and finally their opinion about the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) and its heinous atrocities.

The study shows that Islam is the first defining feature of the peoples from North Africa. Fifty-two percent of Moroccan respondents define themselves as Muslims first and foremost, 52.2 of Egyptians, 58.5 % of Algerians, and 63.2 % of Libyans respectively also see Islam as their first defining feature, while the number did not exceed 37.6 % in Tunisia.

The holy month of Ramadan is regarded as a sacred month in all the North African countries. The study shows that 95 % of the respondents perform their regular prayer during the month of Ramadan.

While they regard that the degree of religiosity is a personal affair, 95.4% of Moroccan respondents that that all citizen irrespective of their religious beliefs should cherish the same rights and freedoms. Surprisingly, only 85.3% of Tunisians believe in equal rights for citizens, which is a harbinger of the rise of religious fundamentalism in this country.

As far as the Niqab is concerned, (which is the full covering of the face except the eyes) 42.8 % of Moroccan respondents believe that it has no foundation in Islam and, thus, reject it completely, while 19 % of the respondents reject it partially.

The study also shows that the majority of Moroccans reject secularism since only 36.4% expressed favorable opinions of it. Observers say that this could be explained by the fact that the image of Islam in Morocco is linked to the monarchy, which combines both religious and political authority.”

  29. Erdogan seeks injunction against German media chief who laughed at poem

Axel Springer boss Mathias Döpfner in hot water after saying he laughed out loud at ditty mocking Turkish president

The Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is seeking an injunction against the chief executive of the German publisher Axel Springer.

The president’s lawyer, Ralf Höcker, said Erdogan was taking legal action due to Mathias Döpfner’s support for a poem read out by comedian Jan Böhmermann on German television in March.

In an open letter published inGermany’s Welt am Sonntag newspaper in April, Döpfner expressed solidarity with Böhmermann, saying he had laughed out loud at the poem and “wholeheartedly” supported what the comedian had said.

Höcker said he would recommend that Erdogan pursue his case with a higher German court if the preliminary injunction was rejected, as expected. The president’s office was not immediately available for comment.

A spokeswoman for Springer said: “We do not yet have any information about this. It’s important to note that Mr Döpfner wanted to defend the freedom of art and satire in his open letter – that was the reason for his letter.”

Höcker’s law firm published a statement on its website on Monday saying it had succeeded in getting a preliminary injunction against the German director and producer Uwe Boll who, in a video posted online, defended Böhmermann’s poem.

“Mr Erdogan is a human being and human dignity is inviolable,” Höcker said, adding that this was placed above the freedom of press, art and opinion in the German constitution.

Erdogan is known for his sensitivity to criticism and Turkish prosecutors have opened more than 1,800 cases against people perceived to have insulted him since he became president in 2014.

The german chancellor, Angela Merkel, drew heavy criticism for allowing prosecutors to pursue a case against Böhmermann.

Court rejects bid by Turkey’s Erdogan to stop ‘wave of insults’ in German media

A German court has rejected a bid by Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan to stop one of the country’s most powerful media executives from defending a comedian who performed a crude poem about the Turkish leader.

A lawyer representing Mr Erdogan said on Tuesday that a preliminary injunction had been filed in Cologne against Mathias Doepfner, chairman and chief executive of German media company Axel Springer SE.

The court order was aimed, he said, at stopping a “wave of insults” against Mr Erdogan inspired by a satirical poem performed by German comedian Jan Boehmermann last month.

In the poem Mr Boehmermann suggested Mr Erdogan hits girls, watches child pornography and engages in bestiality. In an open letter published in German newspaper Welt am Sonntag, Mr Doepfner expressed solidarity with Mr Boehmermann, saying he had laughed out loud over the poem and “wholeheartedly” supported what the comedian had said.

Turkey’s legal action was the latest in a series of cases brought against those who are deemed to have insulted Mr Erdogan, first at home and now in Germany.

Nearly 2,000 related cases have been filed in Turkish courts. Turkey has also filed a formal complaint against Mr Boehmermann, under a rarely-used law that prohibits German citizens from insulting foreign leaders.

Germany’s prime minister, Angela Merkel, has faced heavy criticism for allowing the case to go ahead, after she called the poem “deliberately offensive”.
    Germany’s lese majeste law

That controversy underscored the bind in which many European leaders now find themselves. The European Union is anxious to secure Turkish cooperation on all aspects of the refugee deal, put into practice last month, which will allow it to staunch the flow of refugees reaching its shored by returning most to Turkey.

In return, European leaders have agreed to speed up negotiations on Turkey’s long-sought after admission to the European Union. Yet Ankara is supposed to show it is complying with several criteria, including increased freedom of speech, before such talks can come to pass.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, the Turkish president’s lawyer, Ralf Hoecker, insisted the innjunction must go ahead. “Everybody now thinks they can offend the president because of Mr. Boehmermann. So everyone must also face the consequences,” he said.

    • <strong<German court rejects Erdogan's attempt to shut up critical publisher

A Cologne court refused to grant an injunction against the chief executive of leading publishing house Axel Springer, Mathias Doepfner, at the behest of Tayyip Recep Erdogan. Doepfner penned an open letter in support of a satirist mocking the Turkish leader.

“The defendant has a right to free expression of opinion,” said a statement from the court, following Tuesday’s hearing.

Seeking a preliminary injunction, Erdogan requested that a lawsuit be filed against Doepfner, Reuters reported on Monday citing German media and Ralf Hoecker, the Turkish President’s lawyer. In a letter published by Die Welt in April, Doepfner said that he “wholeheartedly” endorsed the critical poem over which the German comic Jan Bohmermann has been facing defamation charges from Erdogan.

“For me your poem worked. I laughed out loud,” he wrote according to AFP. In his letter Doepfner said he stood on the comedian’s side and took whole credit for the letter’s content.

The lawyer’s firm and Erdogan’s office refused to comment on the matter, while the media group giant’s spokeswoman said that by writing the letter Doepfner wanted to protect freedom of speech.

“We do not yet have any information about this at all. It’s important to note that Mr Doepfner wanted to defend the freedom of art and satire in his open letter – that was the reason for his letter,” a spokeswoman for Springer said.

On Monday Hoecker’s law firm announced on its website that it had been successful in obtaining a preliminary injunction against German director and producer Uwe Boll who had also reportedly backed the poem. However, neither Axel Springer, nor Doepfner himself was mentioned in the statement.

“It’s like gang rape: When one starts, everyone starts coming out of the woodwork and taking part,” the Turkish president’s lawyer said. “Mr Erdogan is a human being and human dignity is inviolable.”

In March German comedian Jan Bohmermann recited a poem, in which he stated that the Turkish President had an inclination to zoophilia and enjoyed watching child pornography. In response, Erdogan requested that the German government prosecute the comic. Chancellor Angela Merkel complied with the request and greenlighted the proceedings for which she has received strong condemnation from the general public who were wary that she had been compromising freedom of speech. Critics of the move said Merkel had been doing everything in an effort not to “upset” Turkey which has recently become crucial in an EU plan to tackle the migrant and refugee crisis.

  37. Young men who bring the culture of violence

The events of Cologne were only a prelude: Many Arab migrants bring a misogynistic society image to Germany. This makes it hard to integrate. A guest commentary.
Is there a connection between the attacks of New Year’s Eve in Cologne and the situation in Syria? The answer is yes, this is the link, and the common denominator is one of violence against women.

Many of my German interlocutors seem the violence that follows in the tradition of oriental-patriarchal culture against women, not to be understood. In the Orient, the woman is not as subject but as an object of a man’s honor. The desecration of a woman is considered not only as Sexhandlung and crimes against the woman herself, but rather as an act of humiliation of the man to whom it belongs.

In this barbaric war in Syria , which is completely wrong called “Civil War” (there are no citizens but ethnoreligious collectives fighting each other), rape Shiite Alawite soldiers of the Syrian army women’s Sunni opposition as a means of warfare.

With the rape this Alawites aim to dishonor the men of the Sunni opposition. The Sunni “rebels” do their part with the same Alawite women. It is a war of all against all with the women as pawns.
Cologne was not an isolated case

As Syrians from Damascus I am amazed at the ignorance and naivety of the Chancellor and her defense minister, who think they can finish at conferences in Geneva and Munich the war. But this war is classified as a “protracted conflict”, which will be with us for years. It is a war guy I “irregular non-state war” call.

Among the war refugees are not only victims of violence but also many perpetrators, even many Islamists. In addition, these mainly young men also bring in between 14 and 20 years, the culture of violence against women, with from the Middle East to Germany. The New Year’s Eve in Cologne is just a proof of this, and not an isolated case, as we want to fool politicians to downplay the significance of the matter.

Regardless of the war the image of women in the Arab-Oriental culture is patriarchal, yes comprising inhuman. This image of women can not be tolerated under the cloak of respect for other cultures in Europe.

And it is the Arab man in the sexual violence exerted not only by the “sexual attraction” of European women, but also to the European man who wants to pollute the honor of Orientale. So it happened also in Cologne. …..

  38. US won’t seek death penalty against Benghazi suspect

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department will not seek the death penalty against Ahmed Abu Khattala, the suspected Libyan militant charged in the Benghazi attacks that killed a U.S. ambassador and three other Americans, federal officials announced Tuesday.

The department revealed its decision in a brief court filing that offered no additional explanation.

In a separate statement, spokeswoman Emily Pierce said Attorney General Loretta Lynch made the decision after consulting with prosecutors. Pierce said the department remains “committed to ensuring that the defendant is held accountable” for the 2012 attacks.

Khattala’s attorneys had been imploring the Justice Department to remove the death penalty as a possibility should he ultimately be convicted of any capital crimes in a trial. With the death penalty now off the table, he would face a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted.

“It was a decision that was the correct decision but was also a courageous decision, so we’re pleased,” said one of his attorneys, Eric Lewis.

Khattala, captured by U.S. special forces in Libya two years ago and brought to the U.S. aboard a Navy ship, has been awaiting trial in federal court in Washington in connection with the September 2012 violence at a diplomatic compound in Benghazi.

Prosecutors have described him as a ringleader of the attacks, which quickly emerged as a political flashpoint and became the topic of congressional hearings involving Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, secretary of state at the time of the rampage.

The 18-count indictment arises from a burst of violence that began the night of Sept. 11, 2012, at a State Department diplomatic compound, an attack prosecutors say was aimed at murdering American personnel and plundering maps, documents and other property from the post. U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens was killed, along with Sean Patrick Smith, a State Department information management officer.

The charges against Khattala include murder of an internationally protected person, providing material support to terrorists and destroying U.S. property while causing death. He has pleaded not guilty.

The case represents one of the most significant tests of the Obama administration’s commitment to prosecuting terror suspects captured overseas in U.S. civilian courts.

The trial is also likely to focus fresh attention on security at the diplomatic compound, an issue that provoked immediate political concern and was the subject of a daylong hearing last year organized by a congressional select committee investigating the attacks.

Since arriving in the United States, Khattala has made multiple court appearances alongside his lawyers. He sought unsuccessfully to have the case against him dismissed, and a separate request for him to be returned to Libya was also denied.

The decision comes at a time of heightened scrutiny of death penalty protocols at the state and federal levels. Executions in the federal system are exceedingly rare; the last defendant put to death was in 2003. The Justice Department has said it is reviewing the policies, though nothing has been publicly announced, and President Barack Obama has said he’s “deeply concerned” about the death penalty’s implementation.

At her January 2015 confirmation hearing, Attorney General Loretta Lynch said she thought the death penalty still can be an effective punishment.
