    “Aghet” Project in Dresden
    Turkey intervenes against concert

The Dresden Symphony Orchestra dedicate their concert project “Aghet” to the genocide of Armenians a century ago. Now Turkey demands to stop funding the production – and has already won a partial victory.

Turkey is issuing pressure at European level against the Dresden Symphony Orchestra’s concert project “Aghet” about the genocide of the Armenians a century ago. The EU ambassador demanded that the European Union ceases the promotion of the international production, director Markus Rindt said in Dresden on Saturday. This is an “attack on freedom of expression”. But he does not see his project endangered, which premiered in Berlin in November 2015 and will guest in Istanbul. “I do not think that our agency will back down.”

The European Commission’s executive agency for Education, Audiovisual and Culture further stands behind the project, reported the ‘Dresdner Neue Nachrichten’. But the Agency has, according to Rindt, yielded to the Turkish side by removing information about “Aghet” on its website. “We think that’s not good.” It should be a warning sign that
the Turkish government does not shy away from exerting influence on the freedom of expression in art and culture in Europe. They even threatened the EU to terminate the accession negotiations.

“They wanted to keep it a secret, and that the terms genocide and Völkermord [lit: “murder of peoples”] be removed,” Rindt said. For the musicians of renowned European orchestras such an “alleviation” was inacceptable. “You have to call it by its right name,” said the orchestra director. “We can’t beat around the bush, it is genocide.”

The European Commission in Brussels confirmed that the text has been removed from the website. There had been concerns about the choice of words. Therefore, the text has been temporarily removed to discuss a new wording with the marketers. “A new project description will be released in the next days,” a spokeswoman assured. The European Commission supports the project with 200,000 euros. “Its realisation has never been questioned,” she explained.

After first arrests of Armenian intellectuals in Istanbul in 1915, deportation and extermination followed. It is estimated that 800,000 to 1.5 million members of the Christian minority in the Ottoman Empire were killed. Turkey as its successor views genocide an unjustified accusation.

The idea for “Aghet” is by the German-Turkish guitarist Marc Sinan. After two performances in Dresden end of April, the concert, for which the Dresdner Sinfoniker are supported by colleagues from Turkey, Armenia, and members of the No Borders Orchestra from the former Yugoslavia, is planned to guest in Istanbul, Belgrade and Yerevan.

The intervention showed just how important the guest performance in Istanbul was for coping with the shared past, Rindt said. For the Sinfoniker, the resistance from the Bosporus is nothing new. Already in 2014, “the wording genocide was enough for the Turkish government to appear on the scene“, Rindt recalls. Their [Turkish] Culture Ministry and the Azerbaijani Embassy withdrew their support for a project, shortly before the premiere. Now the Sinfoniker see themselves on a par with the satirist Jan Böhmermann. Even though, according to Rindt, it is not about provocation, but reconciliation. “Too bad they do not understand.”

    • The way Turkey is pushing to suppress the history of the Armenian genocide shows one of the reasons we don’t want a large Islamic influence in the west. With a large enough presence they will demand to censor what we may know or eventually think.

    • Between outright censorship and funding universities to re-write history, they’ll choke out fact altogether.

    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/yemeni-forces-back-coastal-city-al-qaida-38670967

“Forces loyal to Yemen’s internationally recognized government have retaken the southern coastal city of Mukalla, driving out al-Qaida militants a year after they captured it, security officials said Tuesday.

The Yemeni forces entered the city late on Monday, following days of heavy airstrikes by a Saudi-led coalition fighting on the side of President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi’s government.

The airstrikes targeted al-Qaida positions in and outside Mukalla, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to reporters.

Al-Qaida’s local branch captured Mukalla last year amid the chaos caused by Yemen’s civil war, which pits forces loyal to Hadi’s government against Shiite rebels known as Houthis and their allies.

The offensive to retake the city started on Saturday, the latest operation against al-Qaida in southern Yemen….”

“French television has broadcast what it says is a video taken from inside the Paris restaurant where jihadi Brahim Abdeslam blew himself up on Nov. 13, killing himself and wounding several others.

The footage broadcast by France’s M6 on Sunday appears to show a man walking into the Comptoir Voltaire restaurant crowded with Friday night diners, looking down and covering his eyes before an explosion at his back propels his body forward.

The Associated Press was not immediately able to verify the authenticity of the footage…”

  4. British boxer, 34, who ‘funded ISIS sleeper cell’ arrested in Italian anti-terror probe (express, Apr 26, 2016)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/664416/Hussain-Shamshir-ISIS-Islamic-State-Rome-Italy

“POLICE have arrested a British former professional boxer on suspicion of delivering funds to Islamic State terror cells.

Officers in Italy identified the man as Hussain Shamshir, who is of Pakistani origin, according to local media reports.

Shamshir, 34, was allegedly found to be travelling with a fake British passport after being held in Rome on Saturday.

Sources said Shamshir was also carrying $5,000 (£3,500) in cash – but told anti-terror police the money was for buying clothes.

Officers believe the money was taken into Italy to finance a possible sleeper cell, according to the newspaper Corriere della Sera.

Shamshir was believed to have been travelling in a car alongside two other Pakistani men and a Kurdish man.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are in contact with Italian authorities following the arrest of a British national in Rome.”

Last week Italy’s Interior Minister denied reports that ISIS militants are planning to attacks tourists on beaches in the country.

Angelino Alfano said: “We don’t want alarmism that can damage our tourism without adding anything in terms of security.”

And intelligence chief Giacomo Stucchi said: “No one has ever spoken to us about planning under way for attacks of this type.””

“MUSLIMS will outnumber practising Christians in Europe “very soon”, the Belgian justice minister has claimed.

Koen Geens claimed the shift in balance is because “Christians are generally less practising” and “not because there are too many Muslims”.

He told the European Parliament’s justice and home affairs committee that Europe “does not realise this, but this is the reality”.

But Belgian deputy prime minister Jan Jambon warned MEPs: “The worst thing we can do is to make an enemy of Islam.

“To make an enemy of all of those people, we really will be creating problems.”

He made the comments at a hearing into the last month’s Brussels attacks by Islamic State militants.
Jambon went to to say that “we need to get… Muslims on our side” in order to snuff out terrorists and the networks supporting them.

The deputy prime minister was accused of fuelling tensions with Belgium’s Muslim community when he claimed Muslims were “dancing” after the Brussels attacks that left 32 dead.

He also accused Muslim residents of the Molenbeek district of attacking police officers during an operation last month to arrest Paris attacks suspect Salah Abdeslam….”

  7. PNG court rules Australia’s Manus detention centre unconstitutional (BBC, Apr 26, 2016)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-36136629

“Papua New Guinea’s Supreme Court has ruled that the detention of asylum seekers and refugees on Manus Island is unconstitutional.

Australia sends asylum seekers to the Manus Island detention centre under its offshore processing policy.

But the five judges on the Supreme Court’s bench ruled the camp breached section 42 of the constitution, which guarantees personal liberty.

The court said “all steps” should be taken to end the “illegal” detention.

Currently around 850 men are held on the island, around half of whom have been judged genuine refugees.

    ‘Breach of rights’

Papua New Guinea’s constitution guarantees personal liberty for all people, except in defined circumstances relating to crime, illegal immigration and quarantine.

In 2014, Papua New Guinea’s government amended section 42 of the constitution to add a paragraph that allowed for “holding a foreign national under arrangements made by Papua New Guinea with another country”.

But the Supreme Court ruled this amendment was unconstitutional, as it did not meet a requirement to respect “the rights and dignity of mankind”.

It said that because the asylum seekers and refugees had not voluntarily entered Papua New Guinea, the situation of illegal immigration did not apply to them.

“The detention of the asylum seekers on Manus Island in Papua New Guinea… is unconstitutional and illegal,” it said.

“Both the Australian and Papua New Guinea governments shall forthwith take all steps necessary to cease and prevent the continued unconstitutional and illegal detention of the asylum seekers or transferees at the relocation centre on Manus Island and the continued breach of the asylum seekers’ or transferees’ constitutional and human rights.”

    Policy ‘won’t change’

Australian Immigration Minister Peter Dutton said in a statement that the court’s decision did not change Australia’s immigration policy.

“People who have attempted to come illegally by boat and are now in the Manus facility will not be settled in Australia,” the statement said, repeating the government’s long-standing policy.

The opposition Labor party urged the government to hold urgent talks with Papua New Guinea, while opponents of hard-line immigration policy declared offshore processing of asylum seekers dead.

“The game is up. The government has got to shut the Manus Island detention camp and bring these people here,” Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said.

“This is an important decision and I welcome it. It shows that the Australian government has been illegally detaining refugees on Manus Island for years.”

Papua New Guinea’s Prime Minister Peter O’Neill said the Manus Island centre should eventually close, during an address to Australia’s National Press Club in March this year.

“Who is going to pay for it? Certainly the PNG government does not have the resources to resettle the refugees,” he said. “We are also reassessing the numbers who are supposed to be resettled.””

  8. Sweden examining ‘Islamic State threat’ to Stockholm (BBC, Apr 26, 2016)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-36138647

“Swedish intelligence service Sapo is investigating a possible terror threat to the capital, Stockholm, local media say.

Iraqi authorities had informed Sweden that seven or eight militants from the so-called Islamic State group had travelled to Sweden, newspapers reported.

A Sapo spokesman would not confirm the nature of the information received. But he told Swedish Radio the information could not be “dismissed”.

The national terror threat level is unchanged at three, or “elevated”, on a five-point scale.

National agencies and police are said to be on stand-by, though Sapo has cautioned that it receives this type of information “quite often”.

Stockholm is the largest city in the Nordic countries, with a population of some 900,000.”

  9. Bright flash of light marks incredible moment life begins when sperm meets egg

Human life begins in bright flash of light as a sperm meets an egg, scientists have shown for the first time, after capturing the astonishing ‘fireworks’ on film.

An explosion of tiny sparks erupts from the egg at the exact moment of conception.

Scientists had seen the phenomenon occur in other animals but it is the first time is has been also shown to happen in humans.
“To see the zinc radiate out in a burst from each human egg was breathtaking.”
    Professor Teresa Woodruff, Northwestern University

Not only is it an incredible spectacle, highlighting the very moment that a new life begins, the size of the flash can be used to determine the quality of the fertilised egg.

Researchers from Northwestern University, in Chicago, noticed that some of the eggs burn brighter than others, showing that they are more likely to produce a healthy baby.

  11. Iran and Russia move closer but their alliance has limits

DUBAI/MOSCOW (Reuters) – When Iran took delivery of the first parts of an advanced Russian air defense system this month, it paraded the anti-aircraft missile launchers sent by Moscow to mark Army Day.

Tehran had cause to celebrate: the Kremlin’s decision a year ago to press ahead with the stalled sale of the S-300 system was the first clear evidence of a growing partnership between Russia and Iran that has since turned the tide in Syria’s civil war and is testing U.S. influence in the Middle East.

But the delay in implementation of the deal also points to the limitations of a relationship that is forged from a convergence of interests rather than a shared worldview, with Iran’s leadership divided over ideology and Russia showing signs of reluctance to let the alliance develop much more, according to diplomats, officials and analysts interviewed by Reuters.

Some Iranian officials want a strategic alliance, a much deeper relationship than now. But the Kremlin refers only to ongoing cooperation with a new dimension because of the conflict in Syria, in which both back Damascus.

“We are continuously developing friendly relations with Iran, but we cannot really talk about a new paradigm in our relations,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said last month.

Russia agreed to sell the S-300 system to Iran in 2007 but froze the deal in 2010 after sanctions were imposed on Tehran over its nuclear program.

Moscow lifted the self-imposed ban in April last year as Iran and world powers got closer to the deal that led eventually to the nuclear-related sanctions being lifted in exchange for Tehran curbing its atomic program.

  12. Exclusive: U.S. agencies split over fingerprinting parents of child immigrants

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. immigration enforcement officers are proposing that fingerprints be taken from all people claiming custody of children who have entered the United States illegally without an adult relative, a measure that opponents said could keep thousands of families apart.

As a new wave of unaccompanied Central American children pours across the U.S.-Mexico border, the proposal underscores the sometimes conflicting goals of federal agencies in dealing with undocumented immigrants, a volatile issue on the presidential campaign trail.

Officials at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which is ultimately responsible for finding housing for migrant children, told Reuters they have no plans to change fingerprinting policy. They said the proposal — made by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials in an internal memo seen by Reuters — would delay family reunions and infringe upon the parent-child relationship.

“One of our goals is to place children with an appropriate sponsor as promptly as we can safely do so. And so any delay for placing the child with their parent is time that we’re keeping a parent and child separated,” said Bobbie Gregg, deputy director for children’s services at HHS’s office of refugee resettlement.

The memo by ICE officials, drafted in response to a February Senate hearing, proposes expanding fingerprinting, now limited to non-parents, to include parents.

  13. Words mean whatever the Left decides they mean

Gloucester County, Va. wasn’t expecting to find itself in the midst of the never-ending culture wars when it told a female high school student named Gavin Grimm that she isn’t entitled to use the boys’ facilities just because she suffers from the delusion that she’s a boy. Grimm sued her school with the assistance of the Department of Justice and the ACLU. In a recent 2-1 decision by the 4th U.S. Circuit of Appeals, Grimm won her case.

In order to find some accommodation for Grimm, her high school went as far as installing three single-stall bathrooms throughout the school. I wonder how much those bathrooms cost and what was displaced to make room for them? For that matter, what will happen to those bathrooms after she graduates? This girl’s mental condition sure is a heavy burden on the taxpayers and her fellow students.

Grimm refused to use the bathrooms installed just for her because accommodation was never her goal. She wants to be treated like a boy and she will not be satisfied with anything less. Let this be a lesson: Meeting the rainbow bullies halfway never works because they see their struggle as a new civil rights movement. Their aim is absolute victory, which necessarily requires your unconditional surrender. “Compromise” is not in their vocabulary. So, why is it in ours?

  14. Iran Summons Swiss Ambassador Over US Supreme Court Ruling (abcnews, Apr 26, 2016)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/iran-summons-swiss-ambassador-us-supreme-court-ruling-38673561

“The Iranian foreign ministry has summoned Switzerland’s ambassador to Tehran over a recent ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court against Iran, state TV reported Tuesday.

The report said the Swiss ambassador was summoned over a U.S. Supreme Court decision to permit the families of victims of a 1983 bombing in Lebanon and other attacks linked to Iran to collect nearly $2 billion of frozen funds from the Islamic Republic.

Iran and the U.S. have not had diplomatic relations since 1979, when Iranian students stormed the embassy and took 52 Americans hostage for 444 days. The Swiss diplomat was summoned to convey Iran’s protest to the Americans.

Ali Akbar Velayati, a foreign adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader, described the court ruling as an act of robbery, the official IRNA news agency reported.

“Iran is insistent on safeguarding its rights and will retrieve the money,” Velayati was quoted as saying. “The way to confront Americans is to resist their ambitions.”

The cabinet has tasked a workgroup, led by the Iranian finance minister, to examine the court decision and reclaim Iran’s “rights,” IRNA reported. The ministers of foreign affairs, and the heads of the intelligence agency, judiciary and central bank have joined the workgroup.

Iran said the U.S. court decision violated international obligations between the two countries, such as a 1955 economic treaty.”

“Spanish police say a man arrested this month on suspicion of supplying arms used in an attack on a Paris kosher supermarket last year has been sent back to France.

The national police said Tuesday in a statement that Frenchman Antoine Denevi boarded a jet with French police to return to his country and face charges of trafficking in arms and explosives and membership in a criminal organization.

Denevi was arrested on April 12 in the southern Spanish beach town of Rincon de la Victoria.

    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/turkish-official-us-deploying-rocket-launchers-syria-38675519

“Turkey’s foreign minister says the United States will deploy a rocket launcher system in southeastern Turkey across the border from Syria.

In an interview with the Haberturk newspaper published Tuesday, Mevlut Cavusoglu said U.S. HIMARS missiles would arrive in May as part of a joint effort to combat the Islamic State group.

Turkey regularly shells IS targets in northern Syria in response to cross-border rockets which have hit the Turkish town of Kilis.

Turkish shells have a range of approximately 40 kilometers (25 miles) whereas HIMARS missiles can reach targets 90 kilometers away. HIMARS stands for High Mobility Artillery Rocket System.

“In order to clear the area of Daesh, we have to give the moderate opposition both aerial and ground support,” Cavusoglu said, using an alternative acronym for IS.

Clearing the Manbij area would pave the way for the creation of a “safe zone,” he added.

Turkey has long advocated for the creation of a buffer zone in Syria but failed to get its allies on board.

The nation is part of the U.S.-led coalition against IS and hosts 2.7 million Syrian refugees.”

  17. Turkey Islam: Top AKP politician calls for religious constitution (BBC, Apr 26, 2016)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-36139169

“A top member of Turkey’s ruling AK party (AKP) has called for taking secularism out of the new constitution, arguing it is a Muslim country.

Parliamentary speaker Ismail Kahraman, who is overseeing work on the draft charter, said Turkey should have a religious constitution.

But the head of the constitutional commission said the AKP had not discussed removing secular values.

Critics fear the modern state’s secular foundations are being eroded.

Opposition parties also fear the new constitution could concentrate too much power in the hands of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who wants an executive presidency to replace the current parliamentary system.

Turkey is a Nato member and aspires to join the EU, which has traditionally regarded the country as a model of secular democracy in the Islamic world…”

    • This shows that the so called moderate Moslems will be unable to change Islam to allow freedom and other religions.

  18. BREITBART – Greek Migrant Camp Chaos: ‘Weird Things Happen Here… Young Children Are Raped In Bathrooms’

Greek authorities are investigating after numerous reports of extreme violence and sex assault among the migrants living in the shanty town established among the abandoned former Athens International Airport.

Thousands of migrants are now being moved from the former Ellinikon Airport to dispersed camps around Greece. Yet the policy of moving out the “troublemakers” first means many families are refusing to go or are making their own way back to the airport.

The initial arrival of the young men means they have had time to establish themselves in the new camps. A report by The Times quotes an Afghan father of five who said of the new camps: “It’s like the Wild West there… I’m not going back. Neither are my children”.

Relocations started after a 17-year-old Afghan boy was stabbed to death in Athens, where both the victim and attacker were Ellinikon residents, but reports from the inside of the camp suggest a sinister web of child rape where fear rules.

Speaking to the paper, an Afghan mother reports sleeping close to her children after witnessing child rape by other migrants. She said: “Weird things happen here after midnight.

“Many of the young men get drunk. They shout, fight and do ugly things. No one dares to confront them. We’ve seen young girls and boys raped in the bathrooms here. We’ve seen families robbed of their belongings and people threatened with knives”.

    • Pay close attention to this, we have now opened the way for private investment to take over the space program, the investors are building different types of rockets but are focusing on launching payloads much cheaper then the government launch. This is the way the space program was set up to work in the 1950s, the Democrats changed that in the 1960s and we have been limited to one planet since then. Once we go back into space to stay great advances in science and technology will occur.

The video does ignore one place where government investment does help spur innovation, this occurs during wars of survival when the government is throwing vast amounts of money in all direction trying to develop and by new weapons. The research into the weapons always has spinoffs for the private sector.

      • Those variables working together make an exponential difference.
Socialist Israel was hanging on by the skin of its baby teeth. Now it’s the “Start-up Nation.”

That’s a real bummer for filthy commies like Sanders and his ilk, thousands of miles away.

        • That is why they had Israel, Israel started out as a socialist nation and slowly changed to a free market economy. Socialist is like Islam Apostates must be destroyed.

            • Communism/Socialism has failed every time it has been tried throughout history, the left who think they are so smart can’t seem to understand that their entire political and economic philosophy is flawed, so flawed that the only way they can get people to try it is to not allow free discussions of their ideas, alternative ideas and the true facts of history.

  19. Pro-ISIS hackers post ‘kill list’ with U.S. government names on it

Hackers with a pro-ISIS group calling themselves the United Cyber Caliphate distributed a “kill” list on Monday that appears to include dozens of U.S. government personnel, Vocativ discovered.

The list features 43 names of people linked to the State Department, the Department of Homeland Security and the departments of defense, energy, commerce and health and services. It also identifies the U.S. embassies in Santiago and Kathmandu—as well as the Department of the Navy in Gulfport, Mississippi—as targets. It includes someone who appears to have worked for Australia’s Department of Defence.

While the group’s intentions are sinister, it’s unlikely that the so-called hack unveils much new or actionable information. The hackers list phone numbers with each person—many of which are general numbers for institutions or offices, though several appear to be correct, current office lines. The group also posted zip codes and cities—often listed as Washington, D.C.—allegedly affiliated with their targets, but no specific home or work addresses.

The information for each target was shared on individual photoshopped images posted on the Telegram group of the United Cyber Caliphate. “Wanted to be killed” was written in English, Arabic, Spanish, Russian and French below every image, which also included the hacking group’s name and the logo for U.S. embassies.

  20. To Sabotage the Future, Lie about the Past
Northwestern University Scholar Dario Fernandez-Morera tilts at the windmill of the Andalusian Myth – and the myth topples.

I am in awe of The Myth of the Andalusian Paradise: Muslims, Christians, and Jews under Islamic Rule in Medieval Spain. Author Dario Fernandez-Morera, a Northwestern University Professor and Harvard PhD, argues that elite scholars are peddling a myth – that Islamic Spain, c. 711 AD -1492 AD, was a paradise. Fernandez-Morera’s job is to expose historical realities. The main text is 240 pages. There are 95 pages of notes, a bibliography and an index. It was published in February, 2016 by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute.

This book is an intellectual boxing match. The author shreds not just one opponent, but a series of intellectual bigots, prostitutes and manipulators of the common man. Fernandez-Morera’s biceps gleam as his lightning footwork and peerless preparedness dazzle. Our hero risks much, from hate mail to non-person status.

The reader is plunged into vast landscapes, international intrigue, arcane customs, and timeless heroism. One envisions veiled women and bejeweled slave girls, the smoking ruins of churches, enslaved, whipped Christians forced to carry their cathedral bells to be melted down to embellish mosques, heartbreaking suffering and eventual victory.

Fernandez-Morera allows the propagandists enough rope to hang themselves. All he has to do is quote them. Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Columbia, The University of Chicago, Boston University, Sarah Lawrence, Rutgers, Indiana University, Cambridge, Oxford, The University of London, NYU, Norton, Penguin, Routledge, Houghton Mifflin, the Pulitzer Committee, Tony Blair, Barack Obama, Carly Fiorina, children’s textbooks, The Economist, The Wall Street Journal, PBS, The New York Review of Books, First Things all are in the dock, tripped up in their own false testimony. The inclusion of First Things might surprise; it is a Catholic publication. In it Christian C. Sahner praises Muslims who “exhibited a surprising degree of religious flexibility” because they waited a few decades before razing the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Damascus, rather than destroying it immediately upon arrival. Really.

    What is the propagandists’ motive?

        • That’s probably why the King of Spain has been so gracious to us. We know, we were there. We’ve got – we are – the evidence.

I’ve been watching for signs of being used as media circus ponies. None of that, so far really nice. But they haven’t bagged any of the “name-brands” yet. We’ll see.

          • Spain is really the under reported story in the modern Islamic Conquest, the entire Iberian peninsula is the prime target for the Islamists in North Africa. That is the region where the Moors settled after they were kicked out, and from what I hear a lot of the families still have the deeds and keys to the houses their ancestors had stolen during the first conquest.

            • Actually, it’s only the Sephardim who have the keys. The only verified ones are the within the original Amsterdam- New Amsterdam families. Some members of that community subsequently settled in Italy, South Africa, and Bombay.

It’s one of those stories. The “Palistinans” like to wave their “keys” from pre-Israel days. The Beduin have the biggest, of course.

  21. How Islam Erased Christianity from History
A lesson that should be familiar to the West.

Raymond Ibrahim is a Shillman Fellow at the David Horowitz Freedom Center.

While Christianity continues to be physically erased from the Middle East, lesser known is that its historical role and presence is also being expunged from memory.

Last month a video emerged showing Islamic State members tossing hundreds of Christian textbooks, many of them emblazoned with crosses, into a large bonfire. As one report put it, ISIS was “burning Christian textbooks in an attempt to erase all traces of” Christianity from the ancient region of Mosul, where Christianity once thrived for centuries before the rise of Islam.

As usual, ISIS is ultimately an extreme example of Islam’s normative approach. This was confirmed during a recent conference in Amman, Jordan hosted by the Jerusalem Center for Political Studies. While presenting, Dr. Hena al-Kaldani, a Christian, said that “there is a complete cancelation of Arab Christian history in the pre-Islamic era,” “many historical mistakes,” and “unjustifiable historic leaps in our Jordanian curriculum.” “Tenth grade textbooks omit any mention of any Christian or church history in the region.” Wherever Christianity is mentioned, omissions and mischaracterizations proliferate, including the portrayal of Christianity as a Western (that is, “foreign”) source of colonization, said al-Kaldani.

Of course, Christian minorities throughout the Middle East—not just in Jordan—have long maintained that the history taught in public classrooms habitually suppresses the region’s Christian heritage while magnifying (including by lying about) Islam.

  22. President Obama: Accessory to the Crimes Committed By Illegal Aliens?
The grim findings unveiled by a House congressional hearing.
    April 26, 2016
    Michael Cutler

On Tuesday, April 19, 2016, the House Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security conducted a hearing on the topic, “The Real Victims of a Reckless and Lawless Immigration Policy: Families and Survivors Speak Out on the Real Cost of This Administration’s Policies.”

I urge you to watch the entire video of that important hearing. And then I recommend that you provide information about that hearing to as many folks as possible.

The witnesses at this hearing were: Sheriff Charles Jenkins of Frederick County, Maryland; Michelle Root, the mother of Sarah Root; Laura Wilkerson, the mother of Joshua Wilkerson; and Bishop Minerva Carcaño of the United Methodist Church.

The timing of the hearing could not have been better because the day before, on Monday, April 18th, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments on the administration’s implementation of the DAPA program (Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents). A CNN news report, “Supreme Court divided on Obama’s immigration actions,” focused on this program, which is a follow-on to the DACA program (Deferred Action, Childhood Arrival), which largely paralleled the failed DREAM Act.

To provide my perspectives on the use (or, rather, misuse) of prosecutorial discretion, I wrote an op-ed for Fox News Latino, “Obama Invokes Prosecutorial Discretion to Circumvent Constitution and Congress” that was published on June 17, 2012 — two days after President Obama stood in the White House Rose Garden to proclaim that “since Congress failed to act” he was going to take action. Of course to Obama, his concept of a “failure of Congress to act” was the refusal of Congress to pass bad legislation. When Congress votes down bad legislation, they most certainly are acting.

  23. German citizens place ad against Merkel in Swiss newspaper because German newspapers refused to print it:

    Berlin Journal
Bürger schalten Anzeige gegen Merkel in der Schweiz
    Michael Müller –
    26. April 2016

Citizens place advertisement against Merkel in Switzerland

Page 2 of the Neue Züricher Zeitung of Monday shows a ½ page advertisement with the title “Merkel still cheating on. For how long?” The authors criticise Merkel sharply. The German chancellor is portrayed as a smiling hat player [translator’s note: This type of play is illegal in Germany].

The advertisement in the Swiss daily cost more than 16,000 Swiss Franks [16,000 USD/20,000 CAD]. But it is not aimed at a Swiss, but at a German audience. The NZZ is widely read in Germany too. The text of the ad obviously aims at German citizens:

    Merkel cheats on!
    For how long?
This is how the sham looks:

With the EU-Turkey-Treaty, Chancellor Merkel tries to convince us that she has got the mass immigration into Germany under control. But the facts show: the Turkey-Treaty is a sleight of hand.

    1. For every illegal Syrian refugee, who is sent back from EU into Turkey, a recognized Syrian refugee can enter the EU and therefore Germany, as most EU-countries do not accept unlimited quantities of refugees. In other words: the illegal migration is rechristened into a legal migration – the mass immigration into Germany remains constantly high.

    2. For this rechristening, EU citizens have to pay 20 million Euro perfume month!

    3. As a “Thank you” for taking them back, Turkey pulled EU over the barrel and achieved Visa freedom for Turkish citizens at the latest end of this year. More than 74 million Turks can come to Germany without any Visa at all. The consequences? Bavarian Minister of Finance Söder warns of a Kurdish mass immigration, and the renowned Criminologist Christian Pfeiffer calls this Treaty a “monumental stupidity”, because the freedom of travel could start “a wave of illegal mass immigration”.

    4. For this “monumental stupidity” the EU tax payers have to wire 6 billion Euro to Turkey until end 2018, to a country that tramples human rights, freedom of opinion, and freedom of the press under their feet.

Therefore we ask YOU to sign our appeal against the “Merkelian Welcome Culture” at http://www.rechtundfreiheit.de
    [end of ad]

It is the Association for the Preservation of Law and Civil Liberty behind the advertisement. Why did this German group place their advertisement in a Swiss newspaper?

The media businessman Josef Konrad answers an enquiry by Blick: “Except for the Hannoversche Zeitung, all large newspapers in Germany refused the print of this ad.” The NZZ-ad has fully been funded by donations of the supporters. But they do not plan further ads in Swiss media.

About 3,500 people have already signed the No to the “Merkelian Welcome Culture”. Now they hope to find more signatures through the NZZ advertisement “Merkel cheats on!”.

The name of those behind the association still remain a mystery. Media businessman Josef Konrad says, his cooperation with the association was only temporary, and he has no connections to the association.

“The founders and members of the association currently do not wish to appear in public or to be named”, says Josef Konrad, who is a member of the AfD Bavaria. It is a “loose association of concerned citizens from Germany”.

  24. BREMEN Germany: 9 Islamic extremists investigated over plan to kill

German authorities are investigating nine Muslim extremists on suspicion they planned to kill two people over disagreements in their interpretation of Islam.

Prosecutors in Bremen say 10 premises in the northern German city were searched early Tuesday following tips about the planned crimes. Some 200 police officers were involved in the morning raids.

Prosecutors say the unnamed suspects are adherents of Salafism, an Islamic movement based on a literal reading of the Quran. In a statement, prosecutors said the Salafis are suspected of committing two cases of serious bodily harm and of planning to kill two people “who interpreted both the Quran and life under Islam differently.”

Authorities estimate there are about 8,000 Salafis in Germany.

Deutsche Welle – Police swoop on Salafist properties in Bremen

Police in Germany have carried out a number of dawn raids targeting Salafists in the northern city of Bremen. Authorities have stepped up action against suspected Islamist radicals.

Police raided nine homes and businesses connected to Salafists in the city of Bremen at 6 a.m. (0400 UTC) on Tuesday.

A statement said special forces from Berlin and Hamburg, as well as the states of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Schleswig-Holstein were also involved in the operation. The searches focused on four districts in the city’s northwest – Gröpelingen, Lesum and Walle und Woltmershausen.

It’s not clear whether any arrests were made. The Bremen prosecutor was expected to provide more information later Tuesday.

Authorities across Europe have been on high alert since the attacks in Paris and Brussels. Police in Germany have increasingly sought to crack down on Islamist extremists, particularly on sources of terrorism financing and support.

Salafism is typically used as an umbrella term for extremist interpretations of Sunni Islam. The number of Salafists in Germany has been steadily growing over the past few years, with recent estimates just under 8,000. But only a few hundred are considered to be potentially violent or willing to travel to fight in Syria and Iraq.

The head of Germany’s domestic intelligence agency earlier this month said there were around 1,100 Islamists currently in the country that were considered to be highly dangerous.

  25. BBC – Turkey Islam: Top AKP politician calls for religious constitution

A top member of Turkey’s ruling AK party (AKP) has called for taking secularism out of the new constitution, arguing it is a Muslim country.

Turkey is a Nato member and aspires to join the EU, which has traditionally regarded the country as a model of secular democracy in the Islamic world.[…]

RT – ‘We are a Muslim country’: Turkey’s parliament speaker advocates religious constitution

Turkey, an overwhelmingly Muslim country, should have a constitution based on Islam rather than a secular constitution, the speaker of the Turkish parliament has said in a speech. Secularism has been the cornerstone of modern Turkey for decades.

The founder of modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, reshaped the collapsing Islamic Ottoman Empire in the early 20th century. He founded the state on Turkish nationalism and Western-style secularism, or separation of the state and religion.

However, the currently ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) apparently wants to get rid of one of the pillars of Kemalism ideology.

“We are a Muslim country and so we should have a religious constitution,” said Turkish Parliament Speaker Ismail Kahraman on Monday, lamenting that the name Allah is not mentioned even once in the country’s founding charter.

“Secularism would not have a place in a new constitution,” he said.

Kahraman was addressing an Islamic scholars and writers conference in Istanbul. As the head of the parliament, it’s Kahraman’s job to pen a new draft constitution for Turkey.[…]

Several protesters were detained, as police tried to push the group off the parliamentary premises reportedly using tactical shields, batons and tear gas against the demonstrators.

  27. CABO VERDE – CAPE VERDE – Reports: 11 found dead at military barracks in Cape Verde
    Apr. 26, 2016 2:48 PM EDT

LISBON, Portugal (AP) — Media reports in the Cape Verde islands off West Africa say police there have found eight dead soldiers and three dead civilians at a military barracks.

The website of local newspaper A Semana says two of the dead civilians are Spaniards. All the dead were reportedly shot Tuesday.

The online service of Expresso das Ilhas said the government placed security forces on red alert at the international airport in Praia, the capital, and at the island’s ports after the apparent attack.

Media said the barracks housed soldiers protecting a communications hub and that the civilians were working on repairs.

Government officials in the former Portuguese colony were reportedly planning a news conference later in the day after an emergency meeting of the Cabinet.

  28. Geneva rejects Turkish request to remove picture of slain teen

Authorities in Geneva on Tuesday rejected a Turkish request to remove an exhibition picture that blames President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for the death of a Turkish teen injured during anti-government demonstrations.

The picture depicts Berkin Elvan, who spent 269 days in a coma after being hit in the head by a police tear gas canister during the anti-government protests that rocked Istanbul in May-June 2013.

He died in hospital in March 2014 aged 15, with his story galvanising opposition to Erdogan’s government and the heavy-handed tactics used by the police.

Turkey had asked Geneva’s government to remove the picture of Elvan displayed in a photography exhibition across the street from the United Nations complex.

The exhibition was supported by the city and press freedom group Reporters Without Borders.

In a statement, Geneva said it was “committed to freedom of expression” and would “maintain its authorisation for this exhibition”, which runs until May 1.

The display of 58 photographs showcases the work of Demir Sonmez, a Swiss citizen of Kurdish and Armenian origin, who told AFP his objective was to highlight “the multiple struggles of the people.”

The contentious photograph depicts Elvan with a caption underneath that reads: “My name is Berkin Elvan. The police killed me, on the order of Turkey’s prime minister.”

Erdogan was prime minister when Elvan was injured on his way to buy bread during the so-called Gezi Park protests.

In an email to AFP, the Turkish consulate in Geneva insisted that Ankara respects “freedom of choice for the artist”, but claimed the image was “unfair and unrealistic” with respect to Erdogan’s role in Elvan’s story.

The picture also caused “displeasure in the Turkish community in Geneva,” the email said.

Elvan’s death was followed by mass nationwide protests that were also largely put down by the police.

  32. Disagreements about who should do housework blew up on Twitter in Saudi Arabia this week, and offered some insight into popular attitudes in the country.

If you’re a Westerner, you might think this is another story about who should load the dishwasher, or about men not pulling their weight at home.

But this was a very different conversation, about where wealthy Saudi families should source their servants – from abroad, as is standard, or women from southern parts of the kingdom.
It began when Haya al-Mani – one of the country’s few female politicians – made an official proposal that women be given the right to drive. It’s a well worn topic, but still a controversial issue in the country, and her suggestion was fiercely opposed by religious hardliners on Twitter.

One such opponent – Sa’id Hussein al-Zahrani – was keen to discredit al-Mani and posted a tweet about an article she had reportedly written more than 30 years ago about domestic labour.

“Do you know that Haya al-Mani, who advocates allowing women to drive, also called for replacing foreign maids with southerners” he tweeted.

  33. The West has capitulated on freedom of expression. Nobody in the West launched the motto “Je Suis Avijit Roy,” the name of the first of the several bloggers butchered, flogged or jailed last year for criticizing Islam.

Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel, sided with the Turks. She condemned the German comedian’s poem, called it a “deliberate insult,” then approved the filing of criminal charges against him for insulting the Turkish president.

The West is veiling its freedom of speech in the confrontation with the Islamic world: this is the story of Salman Rushdie, of the Danish cartoons, of Theo van Gogh, of Charlie Hebdo.

Iran’s foreign minister, Javad Zarif, just released an interview with Italy’s largest newspaper, Il Corriere della Sera, where he suggested a kind of grand bargain: We Iranians will discuss with you our human rights situation, if you Europeans suppress freedom of expression on Islam.

The University – establishment of a thousand years – will not survive the war that’s coming. We’re listening to the death rattles of a suicide. There’ll be something else, but this institution is finished.

        • Most western universities are in trouble because of the cultural marxist message that is forced on them but some of them may survive. The University of Missouri Columbia use to be a world class school but thanks to the liberals it is in trouble.

The loony professor who chased away the student reporter and was fired was just the tip of the iceberg. Reports I am hearing from kids who were going there is that the black lives matter crowd is harassing the white students to the point that they aren’t going back to MU. Some reports say enrollment for next year is down as much as 1/3rd. That doesn’t bode well for the survival of the university without massive interference to remove the activist teachers and install people who want to teach the subjects they are hired to teact.

    http://edition.cnn.com/2016/04/26/politics/u-s-uses-israeli-tactic-isis-bombing/index.html

“The U.S. has adopted a unique Israeli battlefield tactic in its fight against ISIS: exploding a missile above a building to warn civilians inside that it’s about to be bombed.

Israeli forces have widely used the so-called knock-on-the-roof operations in Gaza attacks in recent years to try to get civilians out before they are hit.

The first public revelation of the U.S. using a “knock operation” came Tuesday at a press briefing by Air Force Maj. Gen. Peter E. Gersten, deputy commander for operations and intelligence for the anti-ISIS Operation Inherent Resolve.

Gersten described a strike against an ISIS financial storage center on April 5 in southern Mosul, Iraq. The U.S. had been closely watching the house of an ISIS finance operative, or “finance emir” in the words of Gersten….”

    • Islamic State: Up to $800m of funds ‘destroyed by strikes’ (BBC, video, Apr 26, 2016)
      http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-36145301

“Up to $800m (£550m) in cash held by so-called Islamic State (IS) has been destroyed in air strikes, a US military official says.

Maj Gen Peter Gersten, who is based in Baghdad, said the US had repeatedly targeted stores of the group’s funds.

The blow to the group’s financing has contributed to a 90% jump in defections and a drop in new arrivals, he said.

In 2014, the US Treasury called IS “the best-funded terrorist organisation” it had encountered….”

  35. Syria: Humanitarian situation in Daraya ‘extremely dire’ – UN (BBC, Apr 26, 2016)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-36146839

“UN aid officials have warned that the situation in the Syrian town of Daraya is extremely dire, with shortages of food, medicine, and clean water.

At least 4,000 people are besieged in the town by Syrian government forces.

Speaking in Geneva, UN emergency relief coordinator Stephen O’Brien said the Syrian government had ignored “countless” requests for aid to be allowed in.

Residents of the town last received a delivery of aid in November 2012….”

  36. IMMIGRATION FARCE: ‘Impossible’ to know how many migrants are in Britain (express, Apr 27, 2016)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/664688/migrants-britain-eu-impossible-government-numbers-statistics

“A DEVASTATING new report has claimed that the Government has underestimated net migration from the EU to the UK by at least 250,000 over the last five years.

In a massive blow to David Cameron’s Remain campaign, a new study by Migration Watch has shown that the number of National Insurance numbers issued to immigrants from Eastern Europe is far higher than the official immigration figures from that part of the EU.

It means that more immigrants are flooding in from the EU than the rest of the world….”

  37. ISIS ALERT: US warns tourists are EXPLICIT TARGETS for crazed jihadis at holiday hotspots (express, Apr 27, 2016)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/664445/Forces-seize-back-major-oil-terminal-from-al-Qaeda-in-crushing-blow-to-brutal-terror-group

“THE US has issued a chilling warning to holidaymakers over a “credible” terror threat to popular tourist resorts.

The American embassy in Turkish capital Ankara emailed an “emergency message” to citizens warning that tourists have been “explicitly targeted” by terror groups such as evil ISIS and Kurdish militants.

It said: “The US government continues to receive credible indications that terrorist groups are seeking opportunities to attack popular tourist destinations throughout Turkey….”

    • US official sounds alarm on ISIS threat to Italy (ansamed, Apr 26, 2016)

“ANSAmed) – ROME, APRIL 26 – ISIS has sleeper cells that are preparing terrorist attacks in Italy, Germany and Britain, not just in France and Belgium, James Clapper, the United States director of national intelligence, told reporters at an encounter organised on Monday by the Christian Science Monitor. Clapper said the United States was calling for more sharing of information between intelligence agencies as a result and warned that ISIS was exploiting the crisis linked to the arrival of waves of asylum seekers in Europe.

He said there was a “conflict” between EU rules on free movement of people and goods and on privacy and nation states’ responsibility to “protect frontiers and the security of their people”. According to the New York Times, when asked if ISIS was conducting secret operations in Italy, Germany and Britain, Clapper said: “yes, it has done. And, naturally, this worries us and our European allies. We continue to see plots by ISIS in the countries that you have mentioned”.

However, Italian intelligence sources told ANSA on Tuesday that there is no new terror alarm or concrete indicators that ISIS is planning attacks in Italy when asked about Clapper’s comments.

The sources said that Italy was, nevertheless, highly exposed to the risk of attacks, in part because it is the home of the Vatican. (ANSAmed).”

  38. Asylum centre used by migrants left cockroach-infested and covered in poo, blood and semen (express, Apr 26, 2016)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/664705/German-police-migrant-centre-filthy-blood

“POLICE were asked to sleep in squalid conditions in a former migrant hostel with blood, faeces, urine and semen festering inside.

German officers were supposed to bed down for the night after US President Barack Obama’s security detail took their usual barracks.

But when the cops arrived at the asylum centre, which was cleared especially for them, they dicovered the putrid conditions.

The North Rhine-Westphalia Police documented the various sickening finds around the building.

The showers were stained yellow and brown, thought to be faeces and urine, and bunk-beds had dubious substances on them.

Mattresses were seen to have visible brown smears, while others had bloodstains.

Pools of vomit and other ominous wet marks littered the carpet in various rooms.

And not only bodily fluids left behind, cockroaches were scattered about the building feasting on ‘leftover’ food.

The force flat-out refused to sleep in such filthy surroundings, with the union Facebook page, which posted the pictures, describing it as “catastrophic”.

They said despite welcoming “the exchange of housing units in such events”, organisers must ensure a hygienic level of cleanliness.

The 250 police-officers, with little other options, opted to sleep in their vehicles at the zoo.

They decided to catch forty-winks in the marked vehicles at the Serengeti Park in Hodenhagen, northern Germany, ahead of the G5 summit.

But their unusual sleeping arrangement attracted some curious visitors, with the sleeping cops woken by a herd of giraffes in the morning.”

  39. Afghan cabbie raped woman in back of cab – despite earlier kerb crawling convictions (express, Apr 26, 2016)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/664606/Shapoor-Azimi-cab-driver-raped-woman-back-kerb-crawling-convictions

“AN Afghan asylum seeker was allowed to continue working as a taxi driver despite convictions of kerb-crawling before going on to rape a student in the back of his cab.

Shapoor Azimi, 37, has been jailed for eight years after attacking the young woman on the back seat of his private-hire vehicle after picking her up after a night out.

Evil Azimi raped the lone 22-year-old victim after cruising Nottingham on October 17 last year searching for young women to prey on.

Shockingly, Nottingham City Council had failed to notice he was cautioned for kerb crawling in 2005 and convicted for soliciting a lone woman for sex in 2011.

The authority had now launched an internal investigation after admitting the past convictions should have been spotted…”

  40. US military conducts cyber attacks on IS (france24, Apr 26, 2016)
    http://www.france24.com/en/20160427-us-military-conducts-cyber-attacks

“The US military is now conducting cyber attacks on the Islamic State group, a general said Tuesday as the Pentagon looks to accelerate the fight against the jihadists.

A US-led coalition has been striking IS fighters in Iraq and Syria since August 2014, and officials have long stated the importance of using cyber techniques such as overloading IS networks to limit the group’s communications and ability to reach potential new recruits.

“We have now begun to use our exquisite cyber capabilities in this fight against Daesh,” Baghdad-based Major General Peter Gersten told Pentagon reporters, using an acronym that comes from the group’s name in Arabic.

He did not elaborate except to say the effort is “highly coordinated” and has been “very effective.”…”

  41. Greece sends another 49 migrants back to Turkey (france24, Apr 27, 2016)
    http://www.france24.com/en/20160427-greece-sends-another-49-migrants-back-turkey

“Greece returned another 49 migrants to Turkey on Tuesday under a controversial EU-Turkey deal to reduce the influx, a police source said, three weeks after the first deportations.

The latest expulsions came as tensions flared at a migrants’ camp on the Greek island of Lesbos during a visit by Migration Minister Yannis Mouzalas.

A government source told AFP that a “misunderstanding” triggered a disturbance at the Moria camp on Lesbos, one of several Greek islands that have seen a massive influx of migrants setting sail from nearby Turkey.

The unaccompanied minors section of the camp was particularly affected by the unrest, the source said….”

  42. Why the French Riviera’s new mosque may never open (thelocal, Apr 26, 2016)
    http://www.thelocal.fr/20160426/why-doesnt-nice-want-its-new-saudi-owned-mosque

“The mayor of Nice is going to great lengths to stop a new mosque from opening, and looks set to sue the French state over it.

The “En-Nour” mosque in Nice is an impressive construction.

The downstairs hall boasts an area of 350 metres squares and can accommodate almost 900 worshippers. The area is magnificently lit by a huge skylight.

On the second floor there is a reading room for children, a library, and a separate prayer room for women.

But the mosque, in downtown Nice, may never officially open to the public.

While the building itself was completed in November last year, the mayor of Nice Christian Estrosi is still standing in the way of it opening.

The mayor, who represents France’s centre-right The Republicans party, got the green light on Monday to sue the French state in a bid to block the opening of the mosque.

He has long claimed that the project was unauthorized from the beginning, which was back in 2002 before he came to power.

Estrosi has several other gripes with the place of worship.

He accuses the owner of the mosque – Saudi Arabia’s Islamic Affairs Minister Sheikh Saleh bin Abdulaziz – of “advocating sharia” and wanting to “destroy all of the churches on the Arabian peninsula”.

He has also said that the French finance ministry’s intelligence unit Tracfin is “worried” about how the mosque was financed, and he warned of “unregulated foreign funding”.

And now he has approval from the council to take the central government’s regional representative – Prefect Adolphe Colrat – to court over the issue.

The mayor has suggested that the building should, in fact, be a nursery.

Not all agree with Estrosi. For one, the opposition councillor Patrick Allemand accused the mayor of “feeding populism”….”
