  1. Obama Avoided Syria Action to Help Iran Negotiations

As President Obama wrote to the Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei, “the U.S.’s military operations inside Syria aren’t targeted at Mr. Assad or his security forces.” The president didn’t do anything to bring down Assad because he was afraid it might anger the Syrian president’s patrons in Iran, and getting a nuclear deal with Iran was Obama’s foreign-policy priority.

There is plenty that the president might have done to support Syrian rebels . . . without ever risking putting American forces on the ground in Syria. . . . Obama, however, kept his eyes on the prize: the Iran deal. . . .

According to the White House’s negotiating partners in Tehran, it’s not their fault if Assad has to keep killing people. No, says Iranian foreign minister Javad Zarif, it’s those demanding Assad’s ouster who “are responsible for the bloodshed in Syria.” [But] of course it’s Zarif and Iranian allies—from Assad and Hizballah to Iraqi and other foreign Shiite-majority militias—who . . . are still responsible for the vast majority of the deaths in the Syrian conflict. It’s Assad and his Iranian patrons who are responsible for turning what started as a peaceful protest movement against the regime into a civil war that has caused around a quarter-million deaths in four and a half years.

    • In his heart of hearts Obama doesn’t want ISIS destroyed, just scaled back to the point that the MB can control it. From what I can see Obama dreams of a Mideast with no European or American influence, a region with Sunni controlling half and Shiite controlling the other half. His ego is such that he thinks he will find a way to become the Caliph and bring about a marraige between communism and Islam that will create a thousand year Reich.

  2. 4 Reasons We Should Think Before Acting Rashly on Migrant Crisis
Are these migrants fleeing for their lives, or are they trying to find a better economic and social future for their families? Some are coming because of intolerable and swiftly deteriorating security conditions; others may well see a strategic opening. We must be vigilant about humanitarian issues and more wary of an unquestioning open-door policy. . . .

How will this influx of people change the face of Europe? Will they prove willing to be integrated into European society? And, conversely, is Europe willing to do what is necessary to integrate them? . . . Will they prove able to accept that democracy entails the willingness to have one’s most basic belief challenged? Do they understand that the freedoms of speech and expression have no “but” associated with them? . . .

And why, for that matter, have so many Muslim countries shut their doors to them? While huge numbers of those fleeing Syria have found refuge in Lebanon, Jordan, and Turkey, what of the oil-rich Gulf states? They have welcomed none. . . .

Israel has given extensive medical aid to Syrians caught in the bloody civil war. . . [But] how is Israel to open its doors to Syrian refugees . . . [or] check fleeing crowds for associations with extremist groups bent on Israel’s harm?

  3. Moslems Threaten Antwerp’s Mayor

Radical Moslems have threatend Antwerp’s mayor Bart De Wever (photo) with murder if he doesn’t convert to Islam. A threat letter to De Wever was hung in a square in Antwerp’s downtown area. The politician had previously repeatedly warned of a threat by islamic extremism in Belgium.

On Sunday, Bart De Wever told Flemish private TV network VTM that it still yet has to be clear how seriously this threat should be taken: “I have often predicted in the past that we cannot quickly escape the threats coming from an extremist Islam. We have ignored this for years. Now this festering sore has broken out in Syria and more poison will come out of it before we are free of it.
The president of the Flemish National Democrats N-VA and mayor of Antwerp have been living for some time with personal bodyguards. The OCAD, the national coordination and analysis organization for terror threats in Belgium confirms the level of threat in light of its screenings. In Bart De Wevers’ case, this is so acute that personal protection has been granted to him, he indicated to VTM

Der SPIEGEL demonstrates most superbly on a consistent basis how brainwashing can be carried out in quality fashion, even how a brutal and completely unproductive totalitarian sect like Islam, which busies itself with the various orifices of the woman, violence and striving toward world dominance, can be sold as culture. 5. ISIS says Norwegian and Chinese hostages are ‘for sale’ (CNN, Sep 10, 2015)
    http://edition.cnn.com/2015/09/09/middleeast/isis-hostage-photos-dabiq-magazine/index.html

“Two men stand in yellow jumpsuits, staring toward the camera with a chilling message posted below their portraits: “FOR SALE.”

The images, tucked away in the final pages of the latest edition of the ISIS online magazine Dabiq, are part of a troubling new claim: The terrorist group says it’s holding two more foreign nationals hostage.

One page reads “Norwegian Prisoner For Sale.” The next says “Chinese Prisoner For Sale.”

The pages show images of the men from several angles and ask for an undisclosed ransom to pay for their “release and transfer.” The men appear to be wearing tags with their names and identification number. The magazine also lists each man’s purported occupation, place of birth, date of birth and home address.

An ominous warning appears beneath an Iraqi phone number at the bottom of each page: “Note: This is a limited time offer.”

Speaking to reporters in Oslo late Wednesday, Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg confirmed that a Norwegian man in his 40s was being held hostage in Syria, and “everything indicates” that ISIS is responsible. The man was kidnapped at the end of January and held hostage by different groups, she said. Now, he’s believed to be an ISIS hostage, according to the Prime Minister.

The kidnappers have asked for specific ransom amounts several times, she said, but Norway will not pay….”

  6. France says tackle Syria to solve migrant crisis, promises strikes (CNN, Sep 10, 2015)
    http://edition.cnn.com/2015/09/09/world/manuel-valls-amanpour/index.html

“France will soon launch air stikes in Syria, French Prime Minister Manuel Valls told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour on Wednesday, saying the refugee crisis “cannot be solved just by receiving them.”

“At the moment there are millions of Syrians who are displaced. There are refugee camps — in Lebanon, in Jordan, in Turkey — receiving 4 to 5 million Syrians. And we’re not going to receive 4 to 5 million Syrians, so the problem has to be dealt with at source,” he said through an interpreter.

“These are very difficult subjects. And of course, in Syria, so long as we haven’t found a political solution; so long as we haven’t destroyed this terrorist group, Islamic State; so long as we haven’t got rid of Bashar Assad; we will not find a solution.”…”

  7. UK Officials Say Number of Terrorism Arrests at Record High (abcnews, Sep 10, 2015)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/uk-officials-number-terrorism-arrests-record-high-33651825

“British officials say the number of people being arrested on suspicion of terrorism-related crimes has reached a record high as police and security services cope with the influence of Islamic State militants based in Syria.

The Home Office figures released Thursday show 299 people were arrested in the 12 months that ended in March. Officials say that represents a 31 percent increase over the previous 12 months, and is the highest figure since records started being kept after the September 11, 2001, attacks in the United States.

Officials also report a “marked increase” in the number of suspects who are either British or dual nationals.

The number of women arrested also increased substantially to 35, officials say. That represents a threefold increase over five years.

Police have warned that the Islamic State group has been adept at winning youthful followers inside Britain via social media. The group has sought to appeal to young women and teens, encouraging them to travel to Syria to join the group and marry jihadis.

Not everyone arrested on suspicion of terrorism is charged with a crime.”

    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/doctor-blockaded-gaza-makes-stethoscope-printer-33651725

“A Palestinian-Canadian doctor has created a low-cost stethoscope using a 3-D printer, the first in a series of inventions he hopes will help alleviate medical supply shortages caused by an eight-year blockade on the Gaza Strip.

Dr. Tarek Loubani says his stethoscope can be made for just $2.50 — a fraction of the cost of leading brands — and some doctors say the equipment is just as good.

The shortage of basic medical devices in the isolated Palestinian territory “is something that I think we can translate from a big problem to a big win for us in Gaza,” said Loubani, an emergency medicine doctor from London, Canada, whose Glia Project aims to provide medical supplies to impoverished places like Gaza….”

“Hungary’s army has begun exercises to prepare for a possible future role in guarding the southern border to try to stem the influx of migrants.

Budapest plans to send soldiers to help police at the border where thousands of migrants arrive from Serbia every day.

A new razor-wire barrier is already being built along the frontier. MPs are expected to vote on stricter border controls later this month.

The plans for militarisation have been criticised by human rights groups.

ederal investigators formally investigated top Hillary Rodham Clinton aide Huma Abedin for the crime of embezzlement after confirming she took a “Babymoon” vacation and maternity time at the State Department without expending her formal leave, resulting in thousands of dollars of pay she wasn’t entitled to receive, The Washington Times has learned.

The probe also gathered evidence she filed time sheets charging the government for impermissible overtime and excessive hours after she converted from a full-time federal employee to a State Department contractor.

Those timecards were filed during a period that remains under investigation over questions about possible conflicts of interest, documents gathered by the State Department inspector general show.

  12. Juncker appeals to Europe on refugees, as more move on

    http://www.oann.com/juncker-urges-europe-to-welcome-refugees/

STRASBOURG (Reuters) – European Union chief executive Jean-Claude Juncker appealed to European countries on Wednesday to share out a wave of refugees crowding in on their frontiers, but at the same time promised tougher border controls to keep unwanted migrants out.

As he spoke, disarray across the continent was driven home when police in Hungary, Austria and Denmark closed major highways as groups of migrants, hundreds strong, marched north. Defying Hungary’s new border fence and EU asylum rules, tens of thousands are crossing frontiers to reach Germany and Sweden.

Facing opposition from national leaders who blocked an earlier plan to move asylum-seekers from overburdened Italy, Greece and Hungary, Juncker used his annual State of the Union speech to the European Parliament to raise the stakes and quadruple to 160,000 the number he wants taken in under mandatory quotas.

  13. Saudi-led air raids hit bases, Houthi leaders’ houses in Yemeni capital

    http://www.oann.com/saudi-led-coalition-raids-target-yemen-bases-houthi-leaders-houses/

SANAA (Reuters) – War planes from a Saudi-led military alliance bombed Yemen’s capital Sanaa on Thursday, in what witnesses described as the fiercest attacks on the city in over five months of war.

The air strikes hit houses of political leaders in the Iran-allied Houthi movement and military bases, as explosions and wailing ambulance sirens forced a sleepless night on the city’s nearly 2 million shell-shocked residents.

“The sick people fled the hospital in terror,” an official at a private hospital said. “They were afraid the building would collapse from the non-stop bombing of the army bases nearby.”

    • MOSCOW (Reuters) – By refusing to clarify the scale of its military presence in Syria, Russia keeps the West fearing a considerable build-up to win a stronger bargaining position when world powers sit down to talks on the conflict, Western diplomats in Moscow said.

Those discussions could take place as soon as this month, when Russian President Vladimir Putin comes to the United States for the first time in some eight years, to speak at the annual United Nations General Assembly.

Russia’s central demand now is that its long-time ally, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, should be included in international efforts to contain the militants who have called themselves Islamic State and control large tracts of Syria.

      • There are several reasons for this action by Russia, 1) this strengthens Assads claim to the be legitimate ruler of Syria, (he was attacked by Obama during the Arab Spring when the MB (advised by Bill Ayers and other 60s left wing revolutionaries) tried to remove all Moslem leaders that were taking their nations in a secular direction and who wanted to stay independent from the Caliphate the MB is trying to build. 2) This strengthens Irans position in the Middle East, which undercuts Obamas plans for the MB to hold specific areas and Iran specific areas. 3) The move helps restore Russia as a major player on the worlds stage and makes Russia a major power broker in that region. 4) It allows Putin to give Obama the finger.

  14. India in diplomatic row over rape case ahead of Modi’s Saudi visit

    http://www.oann.com/india-in-diplomatic-row-over-rape-case-ahead-of-modis-saudi-visit/

NEW DELHI (Reuters) – India’s foreign ministry summoned Saudi Arabia’s ambassador over allegations one of the Middle East country’s officials repeatedly raped two Nepali maids, sparking a diplomatic row ahead of a planned state visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.Saudi Arabia is pressing India to drop the case, while Nepal wants justice for its two citizens who say they were kidnapped, gang-raped and starved over several months at the diplomat’s home close to New Delhi.India’s foreign ministry on Thursday summoned Ambassador Saud bin Mohammed Al-Saty to relay a request from police for cooperation while they investigate the case, spokesman Vikas Swarup said.

In a statement reported in Indian media, the Saudi embassy said the allegations were false and the police broke international conventions by raiding a diplomatic property. The embassy did not respond to Reuters’ requests for comment.Modi is scheduled to make a rare visit by an Indian leader to Saudi Arabia later this year, part of a strategy of winning investment from cash-rich oil states and to expand cooperation in the energy sector. At the same time, Modi has made improving relations with neighboring Nepal one of his top priorities, as concerns grow over China’s influence in the Himalayan nation.”India needs to carefully balance supporting the ongoing investigation to satisfy Nepal and the Indian public, while not alienating Saudi too much – it is not easy,” said S. 15. Western states train Kurdish force in Syria, force’s leader says

    http://www.oann.com/western-states-train-kurdish-force-in-syria-forces-leader-says/

BEIRUT (Reuters) – Western states have provided counter-terrorism training in Syria to Kurdish security forces that are battling Islamic State, the head of the force said, in a significant expansion of support to the Kurdish administration in northern Syria.

The internal security force, known as the Asayish, is part of the Kurdish administration that has emerged in areas of northern Syria where the Damascus-based state has lost control since the eruption of the Syrian war in 2011.

The Kurds have proven the only effective partner on the ground in Syria for a U.S.-led air campaign against Islamic State, having seized wide areas of territory from the jihadists this year near the border with Turkey.

    • I hope we are finding a way to send the help;directly to them and are sending it through channels that don’t pass through Turkey.

      • We’ve been playing a double game with them for a long time. Triple really. Turk + Iran, then +/- Kurd.

Fortunately the Kurds are not naive. They’ve been at this too long. That’s the best thing going for them. It also makes them a less-than-reliable ally, but that’s okay, we’re all big kids.

        • They have been playing this game since the Roman Empire, they are very good at it, fortunately they seem to play for a free homeland only. I can agree to that ending.

  16. As Europe opens its doors, Japan considers clamping down harder on asylum seekers

    http://www.oann.com/as-europe-opens-its-doors-japan-considers-clamping-down-harder-on-asylum-seekers/

TOKYO (Reuters) – As the worst refugee crisis since World War Two forces Europe to break down hurdles and accept tens of thousands of migrants, Japan, which took in just 11 asylum seekers last year, is looking to clamp down even tighter.

Measures including deporting failed applicants, curbs on repeat applications and pre-screening of new asylum seekers are being considered as part of changes to the country’s immigration system, an official said.

If implemented, the changes would make Japan an even harder-to-reach destination, activists say. The country is already one of the developed world’s least welcoming countries for refugees, accepting fewer than a dozen of a record 5,000 asylum seekers in 2014.

      • Germany: Action for refugees needed “very, very fast now” – Chancellor Merkel

With 1,000 refugees arriving every day in Berlin at the moment, action concerning a European repartition of arriving refugees is needed “very, very fast now,” German Chancellor Angela Merkel said after she visited a school for refugee children in Berlin, Thursday. “The challenge is big at the moment,” she stressed.

  17. Australia to focus on helping Christian refugees

A second senior government minister has reiterated that Christians will be the focus of the government’s 12,000 humanitarian intake from Syria, as the prime minister, Tony Abbott moves to reassure the community that all persecuted minorities will be considered for resettlement.

On Wednesday, Abbott announced that Australia would resettle 12,000 refugees fleeing the conflict in Syria and Iraq, on top of the existing 13,750 humanitarian intake.

The social services minister, Scott Morrison, said Christian Syrians would make up the bulk of the intake.

How Democrats will blame the GOP for Iran becoming a nuclear power.

    http://www.frontpagemag.com/fpm/260071/republican-fall-guys-caroline-glick

The Iran nuclear deal is presented as an international agreement between the major powers and Iran. But the fact is that there are really only two parties to the agreement – President Barack Obama and his Democratic Party on the one hand, and the Iranian regime on the other.

Over the past week or so, more and more Democrats have fallen into line behind Obama. At the same time, word is getting out about what Iran is doing now that it has its deal. Together, the actions of both sides have revealed the role the nuclear pact plays in each side’s overall strategies for success.

On the Iranian side, last Wednesday the National Committee of Resistance of Iran revealed that North Korean nuclear experts are in Iran working with the Revolutionary Guards to help the Iranians prevent the UN’s nuclear inspectors from discovering the scope of their nuclear activities.

The NCRI is the same opposition group that in 2003 exposed Iran’s until then secret uranium enrichment installation in Natanz and its heavy water plutonium facility in Arak.

  19. Austria stops Hungary trains as Europe debates migrant plan

Austria has suspended train services from Hungary as it struggles to cope with overcrowding at train stations. As the European Parliament backed a plan to distribute refugees, some EU states voiced opposition.

The Austrian national rail operator OeBB said in a statement on Thursday that it was temporarily halting train services from Hungary because of “massive overburdening.”

OeBB appealed for humanitarian volunteers and bus companies not to bring more refugees to train stations, stating that it was no longer possible to manage.

The company said domestic services would continue to run from Nickelsdorf – the main border crossing into Austria from Hungary for migrants seeking to travel on to other countries such as Germany.

Austrian police said some 3,700 people people had crossed the border from Hungary overnight, many being taken to stations in Vienna.

    Denmark lets through refugees

Danish train operator DSB said trains to and from Germany, which were suspended on Wednesday, would start running again on Thursday. Danish police said they were letting refugees travel freely towards Sweden.

“We can’t hold foreigners who don’t want to seek asylum” in Denmark, national police chief Jens Henrik Hojbjerg said.

The decision to allow migrants to travel through Denmark to Sweden was criticized by the Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven, who said all countries needed to follow EU asylum rules.

Hungary said its armed forces were taking part in exercises to prepare to guard the border and assist police in controlling the flow of migrants. Defense Minister Istvan Simicsko on Thursday said some 2,000 soldiers were being trained. Over 3,300 people had entered Hungary in just 24 hours, according to Hungarian police on Thursday, with the country considering a state of crisis over the migrant numbers entering.

    EU lawmakers vote for resettlement

Meanwhile, the European Parliament backed the plan of EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker to distribute 160,000 refugees in Hungary, Greece and Italy across other member states.

Juncker said Europe had a historic duty to act and relocate the refugees. The support of the legislature had been expected, but the measures would also need to backing of EM member states, many of which are opposed.

Romania’s president, Klaus Iohannis, said there was “no way” his country would accept the extra number of migrants the European Commission has proposed. Romania has been asked to take some 6,300 people after initially agreeing to accept just under 2,000.

British Prime Minister David Cameron told parliamentarians in London on Thursday that the measure would be counterproductive.

“If all the focus is on redistributing quotas of refugees around Europe, that won’t solve the problem, and it actually sends a message that it is a good idea to get on a boat and make that perilous journey,” said Cameron.

Britain, Ireland and Denmark are not legally bound to take part in the redistribution scheme, while Greece, Italy and Hungary are too overwhelmed to participate.

  20. Palestinian draft resolution to fly flag at UN passes by landslide majority

Israeli envoy to the UN Ron Prosor was scheduled to speak against the resolution in his last speech before being replaced by Danny Danon as UN envoy.

The UN General Assembly voted by a landslide majority on Thursday in favor of a Palestinian draft resolution to raise its flag at the United Nations.

There were 119 votes in favor out of 193 UN members. Eight members voted against the draft measure and 45 abstained.

The United States and Israel were among eight countries that voted against the Palestinian-drafted resolution, which says the flags of non-member observer states like Palestine “shall be raised at (UN) Headquarters and United Nations Offices following the flags of the member states.”

Most of the 28-nation European Union were among the 45 nations that abstained, though France and more than half a dozen others voted in favor of the Palestinian resolution after the EU split on the issue.

Israeli envoy to the UN Ron Prosor spoke against the resolution in his last speech before being replaced by Danny Danon as UN envoy.

The resolution affects the Vatican as well, as it applies to all non-member observer states. The Vatican’s chief delegate to the United Nations on Wednesday said it was unclear whether the Holy See would choose to fly its flag alongside the Palestinians’ at UN headquarters if the draft resolution is approved as expected.

The draft resolution says the flags of non-member observer states “shall be raised at (UN) Headquarters and United Nations Offices following the flags of the member states of the United Nations.”

Israel has urged member states to oppose the Palestinian draft resolution. UN diplomats say the measure is expected to pass given the widespread support Palestine enjoys among non-aligned developing nations, the largest bloc of UN members.

Initially, the Palestinians had presented their flag-raising initiative as a joint proposal with the Vatican, but the Holy See’s mission quickly made clear it would not co-sponsor the resolution and asked that all references to the Vatican be removed.

Archbishop Bernardito Auza, the Vatican’s permanent observer at the United Nations, ruled out the possibility that it would let its flag fly at the world body before Pope Francis’ speech before a high-level gathering of the General Assembly on Sept. 25.

“We have no intention whatsoever to do that,” he said.

Auza added that the Vatican did not co-sponsor the Palestinian resolution “because we have certainly different priorities.” He said the Holy See was undecided about whether to allow its flag to be flown at the United Nations at all.

“Whether or not the Holy See in the future would raise its flag, that question is open,” he said.

The Vatican and Palestine are the only non-member observer states at the United Nations.

Washington described the Palestinian flag initiative as “counterproductive.”

While the United States and Israel are expected to vote against the Palestinian resolution, diplomats said the 28-nation European Union was incapable of reaching a unified position.

While most EU members will abstain, more than half a dozen EU member states – including France, Sweden and others – are expected to vote for the Palestinian draft, diplomats told Reuters.

France has been spearheading a push to revive the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, which collapsed in 2014.

In 2012, the General Assembly overwhelmingly approved the de facto recognition of the sovereign state of Palestine. That came after a failed bid by the Palestinians to secure full UN membership.

“The UN General Assembly has overwhelmingly voted in favour of a motion allowing the Palestinian flag to be flown in front of UN buildings.

Israel strongly opposed the move and urged member states to vote against it.

The motion was passed by 119 votes, with Israel and the US among the eight countries that voted against.

Palestinian representative to the UN Riyad Mansour said ahead of the vote it would be “another step” towards solidifying Palestinian statehood.

The move comes amid growing momentum to recognise Palestinian statehood, with several states showing their support in the past year.

In May, the Vatican signed its first formal bilateral treaty recognising Palestinian statehood.

The motion called for the flags of non-member observer states like the Palestinian territories to follow the flags of member states outside UN offices.

It also means the flag of the Vatican – the only other non-member observer state – can now be raised. The resolution gives 20 days for the motion to be implemented…”

Empty cities don’t build themselves: they require enormous spurious demand of natural resources, which in turn lead to excess capacity from resource producing countries such as Brazil, Australia, Russia, Canada, et al. Now those economies are in recession because China has become debt disabled and is painfully working down that misallocation of capital. And now Japan and the entire European Union appears poised to follow the same fate.

This is in turn causing the rate of inflation to fall according to the Core PCE index.

And the CRB Index, which is at the panic lows of early 2009, is corroborating the decreasing rate of inflation.

But the bulls on Wall Street would have you believe the cratering price of oil is a good thing because the “gas tax cut” will drive consumer spending–never mind the fact that energy prices are crashing due to crumbling global demand. Nevertheless, there will be no such boost to consumer spending from lower oil prices because consumers are being hurt by a lack of real income growth, huge healthcare spending increases and soaring shelter costs.

The author goes onto technical detail on why there is a recession/depression coming, the basic reason is the worlds socialist governments printed money trying to fuel a recovery, all this did was devalue the currencies of the world and inflate the value of the stocks. This is coming at the time when Europe and the US need a lot of cash to pay for the “refugees”: that are flooding into our countries. This lack of liquidity is going to force massive cuts to welfare programs and cause unrest among the people living on welfare. It will also further fuel anti immigrant attitudes among the unemployed. We cam expect growing public unrest and demonstrations over the winter and really taking off next year.

  23. Today as on every September 10, I reflect on the Oslo Accords of 1993 and how profoundly they damaged the state of Israel. The remarkable Ruth Wisse has an essay in today’s Mosaic, in which she describes her response to a New York Times reporter at the time. My Dad read that NYT article to me over the phone – long distance! – and she may as well be channeling his spirit in this essay.

    Oslo on My Mind

Memories of the day, twenty-two years ago, when the Oslo Accords were signed—and of the price Israel paid for that “terrible mistake.”

  24. Report: Saudi Arabia Planning New Canal to Bypass Iran-Controlled Strait of Hormuz

Saudi Arabia is planning to build a canal in Yemen to bypass the Strait of Hormuz, according to a report in Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency on Wednesday.

According to Sa’ad Ibn Omar, head of the Arab Studies Center in Riyadh, “Studies are underway on the construction of a waterway which starts from a part of Saudi Arabia’s water border in the Khour al-Adid area between the UAE and Qatar and stretches 950 km to the Arabian Sea.”

that Saudi Arabia was planning to construct a water canal in Yemen, named Salman, to bypass the Strait of Hormuz.

Omar said the purpose of the waterway, to be named the Salman Canal (after the king), is to enable the UAE and Kuwait to bypass the Iran-controlled Strait of Hormuz when exporting their oil to other countries.

Omar added that the proposed canal, which is expected to cost $80 billion, would cut in half the current travel time it takes for ships to sail through the Strait of Hormuz.

  25. Europe’s new migration era

The migrant crisis transpiring in Europe has, in recent weeks, expedited efforts to find a peaceful solution to the Syrian civil war. It is clear such endeavors are hopeless. This war, we all know, will be decided on the battlefield, not around a negotiating table. Regardless, like any drowning person grasping for anything to hang on to, Europe is still clinging to the sliver of hope that the war in Syria can be brought to a conclusion — even at the cost of leaving Bashar Assad in power — thus stemming the tide of Syrian refugees knocking at its gates.

Presumably, it won’t be long before the Europeans announce new initiatives to advance the peace process between Israel and the Palestinians, in their hope that such a development would help restore stability to the Middle East and save Europe. The Europeans, however, apparently don’t quite understand the world they are living in.

The Europeans, with a massive effort, will in all likelihood manage to absorb the refugees banging at their door. But we are talking about thousands of people, at most tens of thousands. This is merely the tip of the iceberg, which will fully emerge the moment millions of people in the Middle East realize that Europe is giving up and opening its gates. The Migration Period, also known as the Barbarian Invasions, which saw the migration of Germanic, Slavic and other tribes across Europe between the fourth and ninth centuries, will surely repeat itself.
    […]
The problem at Europe’s doorstep […] is not a few thousand refugees, nor is it a few million Syrians seeking refuge from the war ravishing their country. The problem is the tens of millions who want to leave the Arab world — a world that offers no hope and no future — and move to Europe.

Trains packed with refugees are making their way across Europe, but Europe has missed the proverbial train. A gloomy future is in store if it doesn’t find a way to cope with the refugee problem — whether that means finding a solution for those knocking at its gates, or absorbing those who are emerging as an important part of every European country’s population.

  26. Netanyahu urges action to stop Middle East ‘disintegrating’ (BBC, Sep 10, 2015)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-34206350

“Action is needed to stop the Middle East “disintegrating” under the threat of militant Islamists, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu said at the start of talks in London with David Cameron.

Discussions are set to focus on Syria and Iran, particularly the nuclear deal bitterly opposed by Mr Netanyahu.

Mr Cameron said the UK “remains staunch” in its “defence of Israel’s right to exist and to defend itself”.

Pro-Palestinian campaigners have denounced Mr Netanyahu’s visit.

There were angry confrontations outside Downing Street on Wednesday between protesters demanding Mr Netanyahu’s arrest for what they say amount to war crimes in Gaza and pro-Israel activists.

Although a petition calling for the Israeli PM’s arrest secured enough signatures to be considered for a debate in Parliament, the bid was rejected earlier this week because “visiting heads of foreign governments… have immunity from legal process, and cannot be arrested or detained”, the UK government said in a statement.

Arriving in Downing Street, Mr Netanyahu said: “The Middle East is disintegrating under the twin forces of militant Islam – militant Sunnis led by Isis [Islamic State] and militant Shiites led by Iran.

“I believe that we can co-operate in practical ways to roll back the tide of militant Islam both in the Middle East and in Africa.”

The Israeli premier also said he was “ready to resume direct negotiations with the Palestinians with no conditions whatsoever to entering negotiations… immediately”.

Talks between Israel and the Palestinians broke down in April 2014.

Mr Cameron praised the “close relationship between Britain and Israel” and the “growing economic and commercial ties” between the countries.

He said he wanted to talk about the “enormous important global threats” in particular so-called Islamic State.”

  27. Turkey Kurds: Many dead in Cizre violence as MPs’ march blocked (BBC, Sep 10, 2015)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-34206924

At least 30 people have died in clashes in the Turkish city of Cizre since a military operation began there last week, Turkey’s interior ministry says.

The ministry says most of the dead were Kurdish militants but the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) says 20 civilians were killed in the violence.

Locals say Cizre has been “under siege” since the military imposed a curfew.

On Thursday police stopped a delegation of HDP leaders who were trying to reach the south-eastern city on foot.

The group includes the party’s leader Selahattin Demirtas and 30 members of parliament, who say they want to draw attention to what is happening in the mainly Kurdish area.

They were intercepted by police near Idil, 28km (17 miles) from Cizre….”

  28. Migrant crisis: Germany says EU quota plan not enough (BBC, Sep 10, 2015)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-34207851

“EU plans for member states to accept 160,000 new asylum seekers are only a first step in solving the migrant crisis, Germany’s vice-chancellor says.

Sigmar Gabriel said 450,000 people had arrived in Germany so far this year, with 37,000 in the first eight days of September.

Tens of thousands, mainly Syrians, have pushed north in recent weeks.

Serbian TV says a record 5,000 migrants have arrived at the border with Hungary in the past 24 hours.

The Hungarian army earlier started military exercises to prepare for a possible future role in guarding the border and stem the flow of people – a move criticised by human rights groups.

Meanwhile, Austria’s government said 5,700 people had crossed over from Hungary in recent hours. National train operator OeBB temporarily suspended services from Hungary because of the increasing numbers and the risks of overcrowding.

A correspondent on the Hungary-Serbia border says refugees are being kept in a miserable, wet and muddy holding zone, with volunteers describing conditions there as a “disaster”.

Inclement weather conditions were also reported in northern Greece, forcing officials to allow at least 7,000 people, including many young children, to pass into neighbouring Macedonia.

On Wednesday European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker announced plans to distribute 120,000 refugees from Greece, Italy and Hungary among member states via binding quotas.

This would be on top of a proposal in May to share 40,000 refugees from just Greece and Italy.
Speaking in the German parliament, Mr Gabriel described the plans as “a first step, if one wants to be polite”.

“Or you could call it a drop in the ocean,” he added….”

      • Or justice.
The Euros been trying to force Israel to absorb millions of generic Arabs they dubbed “Palestinian refugees”. To smother the Jews with Mohounds and be done with them at last.
That’s been their weapon of choice, let them feel the sharp end.

        • It could be both, the problem is that both the US and Israel need a free and independent Europe, we will have to liberate Europe after we ensure that North America remains free.

  29. Migrant crisis: Ireland to take in 4,000 refugees (BBC, Sep 10, 2015)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-34208805

“The Republic of Ireland is to take in 4,000 refugees amid growing public outcry over the tens of thousands of people fleeing to Europe.

Irish Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald said people would be welcomed under the Irish Refugee Protection Programme.

She was speaking after an Irish cabinet meeting on Thursday.

She said a network of emergency and orientation centres would be established across Ireland.

The minister said the programme – to focus primarily on women and children – would cost 12m euros (£8.7m) a year for every 1,000 refugees….”

  30. Obama Directs Administration to Accept at Least 10,000 Syrian Refugees in 2016 (abcnews, Sep 10, 2015)
    http://abcn.ws/1O3YOGv

“President Obama has directed his administration to accept at least 10,000 more Syrian refugees starting on Oct. 1, White House press secretary Josh Earnest said today.

“The president has directed his team to consider how we can further scale up our response and one thing that the United States can do is to begin to admit more Syrian refugees into the United States,” Earnest told reporters. “The president has directed his team to scale up that number next year and he’s informed his team that he would like them to accept, at least make preparations to accept at least 10,000 Syrian refugees in the next fiscal year.”…”

  31. Al Qaeda Leader Al-Zawahiri Declares War on ISIS ‘Caliph’ Al-Baghdadi (abcnews, Sep 10, 2015)
    http://abcn.ws/1Q3AstP

“Just ahead of the fourteenth anniversary of al Qaeda’s 9/11 attacks on the U.S., the leader of the terrorist group took aim in an angry speech at a mortal enemy — but not American “crusaders” this time. Rather, the object of his tirade was the leader of ISIS in a declaration of war that will “irreconcilably” divide the two terror groups in a way the U.S. may be able to exploit, experts say.

Ayman al-Zawahiri, the Egyptian doctor who replaced Osama bin Laden as the head of al Qaeda four years ago, in a new audio message accused ISIS top leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi of “sedition” and insisted the Iraqi terrorist recluse was not the leader of all Muslims and militant jihad as “caliph” of the Islamic State, as al-Baghdadi had claimed 14 months ago in a Mosul mosque.

“It’s pretty interesting,” said former National Counterterrorism Center Director Matthew Olsen. “Zawahiri until now has not been willing to openly condemn Baghdadi and ISIS. It highlights how deep the division is between al Qaeda leadership and ISIS. It suggests that the differences are irreconcilable.”

Had ISIS and al Qaeda realigned by joining forces, it “would be terrible,” said Olsen, an ABC News contributor….”
