  1. SAUDI ARABIA – Man at mosque claims to be world’s savior

Worshippers join hands to overpower man after assaulting Imam

Muslim worshippers abruptly ended their prayers at a mosque in Saudi Arabia and joined hands to overpower a man screaming and claiming to be the world’s savior.

A YouTube film published in Ajel Arabic language daily showed several men at the mosque in the capital Riyadh assaulted the man after he tried to disrupt the evening prayers by screaming and claiming to be Al-Medhi Al-Montathar (the Chosen Imam Al-Mehdi).

The film showed the man trying to hit back before he was overpowered.

Ajel said the man was arrested after assaulting the mosque’s Imam (preacher) and trying to enter the women’s section at the mosque.

Muslims believe Imam Al-Mehdi, dubbed ‘the ultimate savior of mankind’ will eventually reappear as a great reformer who will destroy the beliefs of injustice and ignorance and fill this earth with fairness after it has been filled with injustice and oppression.

      • I agree, always remember Sturgeons law – 90% of everything written is crap. The statement was from Theodor Sturgeon at a party when one woman said that 90% of Science Fiction is crap.

  2. France explosions: Device found near Berre-L’Etang plant (BBC, July 15, 2015)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-33537345

“An electronic device has been found by investigators near a petrochemical plant in southern France, where two tanks caught fire after explosions on Tuesday, reports say.

A malicious act was already suspected by authorities because the two tanks were 500m (1,600ft) apart.

The fires were visible a long distance from the plant at Berre L’Etang.

Police sources told French media that they were analysing an electronic device that could start a fire.

Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve was said to have responded to the fires by warning regional officials to step up security at sensitive sites across France.

Anti-terror officials in Paris were keeping a close eye on the investigation, a week after explosives and detonators were stolen from a military site at Miramas, little more than 20km (12 miles) away.

Prosecutors in the nearby town of Aix told local media that suspicious items had been found but they were badly damaged and had been sent for analysis.

Holes in the perimeter fence near one of the tanks were also being investigated.

Officials were keeping an open mind about the fires but were not looking at any link to Islamist militants at this stage, Liberation website reported (in French).

Two tanks were set alight after the explosions at the site run by LyondellBasell, a multinational company with headquarters in the US and the Netherlands.

One was filled with petrol and the other with naphtha, a highly flammable distilled liquid distilled from petroleum.

No-one was hurt and firefighters dealt with the petrol fire quickly but took hours on Tuesday to bring the naphtha tank blaze under control.”

      • If you have some spare time spend it researching the Black Regiments in the Southern Army, I think you will be surprised.

  3. MOROCCO – Mouse Causes Panic Among Worshipers in Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca

Hundreds of worshippers began shouting and screaming as they rushed outside the mosque after hearing screams from women’s area.

According to eye-witnesses, thousands of worshippers were performing Taraweeh prayers in an extreme reverence when dozens of women began panicking and running out of the mosque.

The sound of women’s screams was so loud that it reached the men’s space in the mosque, prompting many men to rush outside the mosque in panic and fear.

Worshippers fled the mosque, thinking that a bomb was about to explode, according to an eye-witness.

While local authorities haven’t yet officially revealed the true reason for the panic, multiple media reports suggest that a mouse was behind the incident.

The mouse allegedly jumped on a woman’s foot while she was praying. The woman was reportedly terrorized and rushed outside the mosque in a panic while she was yelling.

A police officer who was in the mosque when the incident occurred told Alyaoum24 that other women were scared and also fled the mosque while screaming, causing an uproar.

Pictures and footage showing worshippers rushing outside the mosque have been posted on Facebook since last night, and were widely shared.

Over 34 people fainted due to the stampede, while at least one person was injured.

Every night during Ramadan, Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca hosts hundreds of thousands of Moroccans from Casablanca and elsewhere.

  5. Just a note to say ‘hi’.
I’m headed under the mattress until the 4-letter obscenity – IRAN – disappears from the headlines.

Can’t watch a movie because my internet connection is as lousy as my attention span. It’s a good time to work on files, though. Some stretch back to before 9/11. Foolish editorials from another era.

    Be of good cheer, YankeeKafir

      • You’re right. I’m here, if wobbly.

My whole computer set-up is obsolete. I’m running on a paper-clip and scotch-tape.

    • If you get an open source video downloader and install it on your computer you can down load the movies on you tube and watch them on an open source video player. I use Freemake downloader and all player to watch. Both have free versions so it won’t cost you anything but some time.

        • But when you watch the video you discover that the pro lifers are the ones telling the truth. The really sickening thing is the way she is eating and drinking wine while talking about dismembering unborn babies.

  6. ‘Cultural gap’ not a reason for lighter sentence for Iranian immigrant guilt of raping wife, beating children: court

TORONTO — An Iranian immigrant who regularly raped his wife and beat his children during their 16-year marriage is going back to jail after Ontario’s top court on Wednesday increased his sentence.

In doing so, the Court of Appeal said the lower court judge who handed the man an 18-month term was wrong to assume cultural differences were a mitigating factor — even though the defence never raised the issue.

The man, who cannot be identified by court order to protect his now ex-wife and children, will instead have to serve a four-year term, the Appeal Court decided.

“Cultural norms that condone or tolerate conduct contrary to Canadian criminal law must not be considered a mitigating factor on sentencing,” the Appeal Court ruled. “To hold otherwise undermines the equality of all individuals before and under the law.”

In fact, the higher court said, cultural beliefs may even be an aggravating factor when it comes to sentencing.

In June last year, Judge William Gorewich of the court of justice in Newmarket, Ont., convicted the man of sexual assault and four counts of assault for offences that occurred after the family’s move from Iran to Canada in 2009. The judge accepted there had been “long-standing and ongoing” abuse.

Evidence was that the man forced his wife to have sex with him by hitting her, pulling her hair, pinching her, and forcefully removing her clothes.

“The sex was painful. She cried out quietly so the children would not hear. She suffered painful bruises to her legs and sides,” according to court documents.

He also abused their two children — now teenagers — by slapping, kicking, punching or strapping them. He once locked them outside on a snowy day while they were barefoot and wearing only shorts and T-shirts.

The abuse, which only came to light after the younger child talked to a teacher, continued even after he moved in with another woman.

The younger boy became so terrified that he took to sleeping with a knife

“The younger boy became so terrified that he took to sleeping with a knife,” court documents say.

In sentencing him to 18 months, Gorewich referenced the “cultural impact” of the family’s immigration. Among other things, he took into account the wife’s victim impact statement in which she expressed surprise at the serious legal consequences of her husband’s conduct.

Her statement suggested a “significant cultural gap” between what is acceptable in Canada versus in Iran, Gorewich said.

“In Iran if she complained about any abuse she would be ignored — it is a different culture, it is a different society,” Gorewich said. “Those cultural differences moved with them from Iran to Canada.”

On appeal, the Crown argued the judge’s reasoning was flawed and the sentence manifestly unfit.
In siding with the prosecution, the Appeal Court noted the husband never raised cultural differences in his defence; instead he denied the attacks and blamed his family for his troubles.

The higher court sentenced him to 44 months for sexual assault, and made the four-month sentence for the assaults on the children consecutive rather than concurrent as Gorewich had done.

In the circumstances, the Appeal Court ruled, sending him back to prison — he had already been paroled — was justified.
