(And it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. Although it also happened to the Boston Bomber, now sentenced to lethal injection)
CAIRO—Ousted Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi was sentenced to death Saturday for allegedly breaking out of prison during the height of the nation’s uprising in 2011.
The court’s preliminary verdict is subject to review by the Grand Mufti, Egypt’s highest religious authority, whose opinion isn’t legally binding but is traditionally adopted by the court.
A final verdict based his opinion will be delivered June 2.
If the verdict is upheld, Mr. Morsi, who was deposed as president in a military coup in 2013, would become the first former Egyptian president to be condemned to death.
The Federal Government is considering options for revoking the Australian citizenship of people involved in terrorism, even if they are not citizens of any other country.
Earlier this year, Prime Minister Tony Abbott announced the Coalition would amend the Citizenship Act so dual nationals could be stripped of their Australian citizenship in such circumstances.
Now the Government is looking for a way to revoke Australian citizenship even when the person has no other allegiance.
“I think most Australians would want to make sure that people who have Australian citizenship treat it as a privilege,” Immigration Minister Peter Dutton told the ABC.
(Or, they could properly vet people before they are granted citizenship like not granting it to people who hold an ideology of total destruction and religious manifest destiny. That would save a stunning amount of time and money as well as likely snags in this plan. Or even better, don’t let them in to start with)
Time: 13:00 to 15:00
(A statistic which should mean more to people than it will)
Perspective: Think the Spanish inquisition was bad?
More people are killed by Islamists each year than in all 350 years of the Spanish Inquisition* combined.
The Spanish inquisition (Tribunal del Santo Oficio de la Inquisición) from 1478 to 1834 was established due to muslim invasions. It was the war and battle to try and end Islamic infiltration, Arab fascism and conquest. It’s quite interesting how similar to muslims their methodology was. Was it habit by long association under muslim rule or a strategy?
