16. “Wind your necks in” What does that mean? Can someone please explain that Brit expression to me?
    On the one hand, I gather that means stop investigating something. On the other hand I don’t know where that expression comes from.
    Is it wind, like the wind that blows or, is it wined like wind, to wind up something like a piece of thread around a thimble?

    • If I heard someone say that, I would imagine it meant that we should see a threat to having our heads chopped off and we should ‘wind our necks in’ like fishing line if we don’t want someone chopping at it.
