2. UK: Radical Islamists ‘facing ban on working with children’

(I can’t see this working somehow. The UK has on a couple of occasions, taken children away from British parents, partly for belonging to the EDL but I highly doubt they have the guts to try that with the kind of muslims they claim to be opposing)

5. Police station harassed in Yala

(For those unfamiliar with this decade’s ‘news-speak’ militants means muslims 99% of the time)

At least two militants opened fire at the living quarters of police and their families in the compound of Lammai police station in Muang district of Yala province on Saturday night, but caused no casualties, police said.

The gun shots hit the living quarters, leaving bullet holes on the walls.  Nobody was hurt in the attack which occurred at 9.15pm.

Yerou “could have played an important role in recruiting and sending of women sympathisers of the terrorist group in Europe and Morocco,” the ministry said.

She was with her three-year-old son when trying to get into Syria. The boy’s father filed a complaint when Yerou and the child disappeared from the Spanish city of Rubi, which is near Barcelona, in December.

8. ‘Those who do wrong have to pay for it’: Vigilante father beats and kills man who ‘groomed 11-year-old daughter’ – then posts gory video of victim begging for mercy online

(To be honest I am shocked that this isn’t happening by the thousands in the UK)

  • The unidentified man, who was 23, harassed the girl for several months
  • Sent pictures to the girl via Whatsapp and arranged to meet her
  • But he had not realised he had been talking to the young girl’s father
  • When he arrived for meeting, the father badly beat him and filmed it

  • Mob broke into prison to kidnap Syed Faird Khan and later killed him
  • WARNING GRAPHIC CONTENT

The father of an 11-year-old girl who was allegedly the victim of online grooming filmed himself beating the man responsible before killing him in a gory video.

The unidentified man, who was 23, was said to have harassed the girl for several months.

It is believed he sent pictures to her via Whatsapp and arranged to meet her in the state of Goias, Brazil.

(Will see if we can find a translator for this video and see if there are any clues as to the usual connection between the person who was setting up the rape and a certain culture and religion)

10. Iran’s New Missile Puts Israel ‘in Range’

As the US and its allies continue to discuss limiting Iran’s nuclear program with Tehran, the Iranian military on Sunday announced that it had developed a new long-range cruise missile with a range of some 2,000 kilometers (1,200 miles) – putting Israel well within its reach, Israeli sources said. The missile, called the “Soumar,” features “different characteristics in terms of range and pinpoint accuracy in comparison with the previous products,” Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehqan said at the unveiling of the missile Sunday.

The missile, Dehqan said, was developed based on the needs of the Iranian Armed Forces, and is “a crucial step towards increasing the country’s defense and deterrence might.”

On Saturday, an Iranian military official said that the country would be unveiling yet another missile system will be unveiled on April 18, when the country marks National Army Day. That system, called the Talaash-3, is based on the Russian S-200 missile system, the official said.

About 30 rockets and shells hit the outpost at dawn. U.N. troops returned fire, spokesman Olivier Salgado said.

Security had been beefed up at the base of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali, known as MINUSMA, and air patrols are in place, the mission said in a statement.

The 60 half-hour readings are accompanied by comments from the translator of the Islamic holy book and Imam Anas Hajjar of Finland’s Islamic Society.

The chairman of the organization, Mohammad Hussein Omar, on Sunday described the readings as a good way to help people understand the religion and Muslim customs better.

Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov has said a suspect in the murder of Kremlin critic Boris Nemtsov is a “deep believer” who was shocked by Charlie Hebdo cartoons. Zaur Dadaev has confessed to his involvement in the killing.

Kadyrov wrote on his Instagram account on Sunday that Dadaev, a former deputy commander for the Chechen police, was shocked by the Charlie Hebdo cartoons of the prophet Mohammad.

“All who know Zaur confirm that he is a deep believer and also that he, like all Muslims, was shocked by the activities of Charlie and comments in support of printing the cartoons,” Kadyrov said.

Russian investigators said last week that they were looking into the possibility that Islamist militants had assassinated Nemtsov over his defense of satirical cartoons in the French magazine Charlie Hebdo.

“Canadian and Kurdish officials on Sunday offered conflicting accounts of the death of a Canadian soldier in a friendly fighting incident in Iraq, with the Kurds saying he was on the front lines directing airstrikes and Canada’s defense minister saying he had returned to an observation post further back.

The death of Sgt. Andrew Joseph Doiron on Friday marked Canada’s first casualty as part of the U.S.-led coalition’s war on the extremist Islamic State group. Canada is actively debating whether to extend the combat mission, which is due to expire at the end of the month.

Kurdish officials said Sunday that Doiron was killed after he and other Canadian soldiers showed up to the front line unannounced to call in airstrikes.

“They went to the front line to direct airstrikes because the area was attacked by ISIS the day before,” Hezhar Ismail, director of coordination and relations for Kurdish peshmerga forces told The Associated Press, using an acronym for the Islamic State group.

But Canadian Defense Minister Jason Kenney said the Canadian soldiers had just returned to an observation post well behind the front line when they were mistakenly fired upon by Kurdish fighters.

“They weren’t on the front line,” Kenney said in an interview with CTV. “It was 200 meters from the front.”

  9. Ideology links Ottawa, Paris, Copenhagen attacks, says French envoy

OTTAWA – The gunmen who launched attacks in Ottawa, Paris and Copenhagen are all linked to the broader Islamist terrorist movement in Iraq and Syria, says the French ambassador to Canada.

That’s the case, argued Nicolas Chapuis, even if the attackers did not have any direct contact with the each other or the broader leadership of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIL.

“The so-called lone wolves that we have witnessed in Ottawa, Paris, Copenhagen are all united by this ideology of destruction,” Chapuis said in a recent interview.

“This is linked — a very strong link. And we need to tackle the root of the problem.”

That underscores the need for countries such as Canada and France to co-ordinate their international and domestic efforts to fight terrorism, he said.

France and Canada are doing that as part of their shared contribution to the Western coalition fighting the ISIL advances in Iraq and Syria, and their joint efforts in battling their own homegrown terrorist threats.

Chapuis spoke before Friday’s revelation of the video made by Michael Zehaf Bibeau, the Oct. 22 Parliament Hill attacker, in which he allied himself to the global terrorist movement.

“I’m not commenting on Ottawa specifically. I’m just struck by the copycat between Paris and Copenhagen,” he said.

In both European attacks, the attackers targeted a venue of free expression as well as a distinctly Jewish target, he said.

The January attack on the Charlie Hebdo newspaper in Paris was followed by one on a kosher supermarket, while last month’s shootings of two people in Denmark, started with an attack on a free expression lecture before moving on to a synagogue.

“Just join the dots,” said Chapuis, who lauded Foreign Affairs Minister Rob Nicholson for visiting the Grand Synagogue of Paris last week.

  11. Murdered Charlie Hebdo Staff Named ‘International Islamophobe Of The Year’

Charlie Hebdo has been named 2015 International Islamophobe of the year, despite many of its staff having been killed by Jihadists in January. The annual ‘award’ was given by Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC), a British group that claims to campaign against terrorism.

According to the Muslim website 5Pillars the award was given to Charlie Hebdo because of its “continual stoking of Islamophobic sentiment by caricaturing Muslims as terrorists and ridiculing their beliefs.”

It continued: “Charlie Hebdo’s repeated mocking of Muslims is part of a culture of hate that is intended to marginalise, further alienate and further endanger a community that has effectively been ‘otherised’ in much the same way that Jews were in Nazi Germany.”

[…]Overall Islamophobe of the Year was the Home Secretary Theresa May. She is accused of being the “driving force behind the introduction of yet more repressive legislation targeting the Muslim community”. The IHRC is specifically unhappy with the Counter Terrorism and Security Act, which requires professionals like teachers to report potential terrorists to the authorities.

  12. CNN – Policewoman among Paris terror arrests

4 linked to Paris hostage-taker arrested

Paris (CNN)French police have arrested four people linked to Amedy Coulibaly, the gunman and hostage-taker at a Parisian kosher supermarket on January 9, a Paris prosecutor’s spokesman said.

A French policewoman is among the four taken into custody, French national police said.

The policewoman worked at the Fort de Rosny-sous-Bois, northeast of Paris, the spokesman said. According to Le Figaro newspaper, the Fort de Rosny-sous-Bois is the location of an important intelligence center.

Coulibaly killed four hostages in the grocery store before police shot and killed him.

His attack followed one on the office of the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

France has been under a heightened state of alert since January’s terror attacks in Paris that killed 17 people.

Brothers Cherif and Said Kouachi, authors of the deadly attack on the Charlie Hebdo offices, were killed days later after two violent standoffs. The brothers were accused of killing 12 people in a massacre at the magazine offices.

Coulibaly, suspected in the slaying of a police officer, was killed by security forces after he shot and killed four hostages during the siege at the kosher market.

Charlie Hebdo has a controversial history of depicting the Prophet Mohammed, often in an unfavorable light, which has angered many Muslims around the world.

Earlier cartoons depicting Mohammed spurred protests and the burning of the magazine’s office three years ago.

Since the attack, European nations have carried out raids on suspected terror cells with links to ISIS in Syria.

  13. LATVIA – RIGA – Fresh US Army hardware arrives in Riga

Latvia received a fresh consignment of military hardware Monday courtesy of the US Army, as part of the ongoing Operation Atlantic Resolve designed to bolster the region’s defenses against any potential Russian aggression.

More than 100 pieces of military equipment were being unloaded throughout the day at the Port of Riga with some set to stay in the country and some due to be transported to Estonia and Lithuania.

Among the equipment being unloaded were Abrams main battle tanks, the flexible Bradley Fighting Vehicle and Scout military Humvees.

Overseeing the operation, Major General John R O’Connor of 21st Theater Sustainment Command said the hardware would stay “for as long as required to deter Russian aggression.”

“Our purpose here is to demonstrate resolve against the aggression of Russian forces violating sovereignty of other territories that do not belong to Russia, fully recognizing that we will demonstrate our full potential and capabilities that we bring on this rotational force,” O’Connor said.

“In Latvia we’ll have six tanks, six Bradleys, all the supporting equipment that will come in… and then we will work collectively with the Latvians and other NATO partners that decide to come to Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Poland in order to demonstrate how we can better work together on our ability to extend our operational reach across borders.

“We’ll share that armor formation across six states as well as extend operations down into Bulgaria and Romania this year bringing in our multinational formations. The 173rd out of Italy will begin operations in the Black Sea region.

“What we’re demonstrating is a unified front from the north to the south – a line so that we can exercise together and demonstrate our resolve against Russia,” O’Connor added, explaining that the military hardware would be left in place while different forces rotated to use it on a regular basis, with the 3rd Infantry replacing the 2nd Cavalry in the next rotation over coming weeks .

The net result would be to “demonstrate resolve to President Putin and Russia that collectively we can come together,” O’Connor said.

      • 3,000 US troops on exercise in Baltic

Washington (AFP) – The United States has begun to deploy 3,000 troops on a three-month exercise to reassure Russia’s nervous neighbors in the Baltic, military officials said Monday.

Operation Atlantic Resolve will see major NATO forces working alongside their allies in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia — former Soviet republics now members of the Western alliance.

Pentagon spokesman Colonel Steven Warren said vehicles, helicopters and heavy equipment had begun arriving in the Latvian capital Riga and that the exercises would last 90 days.

Warren said the deployed unit was a “Brigade Combat Team” — around 3,000 frontline soldiers.

According to a US military source, speaking on condition of anonymity, the equipment would remain behind in the region after the troops of the Third Infantry Division return to base.

Earlier, in Riga, US General John O’Connor told AFP the deployment would “demonstrate resolve to President (Vladimir) Putin and Russia that collectively we can come together.”

The delivery includes Abrams tanks and Bradley fighting vehicles as well as support equipment and O’Connor said the armor would stay “for as long as required to deter Russian aggression.”

The three Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have been NATO and European Union members since 2004 but have very little miliary hardware of their own.

Moscow’s annexation of Crimea last year and its meddling in the conflict in eastern Ukraine have galvanized NATO and focused particular attention on its vulnerable Baltic members.

A series of maneuvers by Russia in the Baltic region has stoked concern that the Kremlin could try to destabilize the countries that were in its orbit during Soviet times.

NATO is countering Russia by boosting defenses on Europe’s eastern flank with a spearhead force of 5,000 troops and command centers in the Baltic states, Bulgaria, Poland and Romania

  14. SWEEDEN – Deep fryer started mosque fire: report

A blaze at a mosque in Eskilstuna in central Sweden that injured five people on Christmas Day was caused not by a firebomb but by an overheated deep fryer, a police source told a local newspaper.

The fire was the first of three conflagrations in the space of a week at mosques across Sweden.

Police initially believed the fire at the Dawa mosque in Eskilstuna was started deliberately and opened an arson investigation.

But a police source told local newspaper Eskilstuna-Kuriren on Monday that the fire had in fact been caused by an overheated deep fryer.

Police in the city would not confirm the report, and said the investigation was still ongoing.

Around 70 people were in the mosque when the fire took hold. Many of them fled through windows to escape the blaze.

The Swedish intelligence service, Säpo, was called in to aid with the investigation amid reports that an arsonist had thrown a burning object into the building.

Anti-racism rallies attracted thousands of people in the days following three fires at mosques in Eskilstuna, Eslöv and Uppsala.

  15. Israeli foreign minister calls for ‘beheading’ of Israeli Arabs ‘who are against us’

Israeli hawkish foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman has called for the beheading of Israeli Arabs who are not loyal with the State of Israel in an election rally address.

“Those who are with us deserve everything. Those against us, it cannot be helped, we must lift up an ax and behead them – otherwise we will not survive here,” he said, according to Channel 2.

It’s not the first time the outspoken ultra-nationalist leader, who lives in an illegal settlement in the occupied West Bank, has made chilling comments on the Arab citizens of the state of Israel.

In November last year, he proposed that the country’s Arabs be offered financial incentives to move to a future Palestinian state.

During Sunday’s rally, he said that Israeli citizens who raise a black flag on Nakba day “should get out of here and I would willingly and with great pleasure hand them over to Abu Mazen [Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas]”.

[…]Lieberman’s comments came after prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel will not cede any territory to the Palestinians ahead of elections next week.

“Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that any evacuated territory would fall into the hands of Islamic extremism and terror organizations supported by Iran. Therefore, there will be no concessions and no withdrawals. It is simply irrelevant,” read a statement released by his Likud party.

  16. Intel Chief Clapper ADMITS Obama admin arming terrorists but calling them ‘moderates’

James Clapper, Director of National Intelligence, was interviewed by Council on Foreign Relations last week on Global Intelligence Challenges. During a Q&A session, Clapper suggested that when it comes to training and equipping moderate rebels in Syria, the definition of ‘moderate’ has evolved so that nowadays it really means “anyone who is not affiliated with ISIL”.

If you watch the video instead of just reading the transcript, you’ll notice Clapper using air quotes several times when he says the word ‘moderate’. He even says at one point “whatever that means“, referring to the term ‘moderate’.

So there are some portion of our oppositions who are regarded as moderate. Moderate these days is increasingly becoming anyone who’s not affiliated with ISIL. And so, you know, we are attempting to engage with them, and that’s the whole point of the train and equip proposal—project that the Department of Defense is gearing up for, is to vet, recruit and train and equip oppositions in sufficient size and capability to actually make a military difference.

And so one of our challenges is, again, the recruiting and vetting part. So we picked people that not only are moderate, whatever that is, but also we have to be sensitive to complying with the international rules of law, which in this environment is a pretty tough order.

So this is a very, very complex situation in Syria, compounded by the fact that we are actually not there, which is very different than the situation we have in Iraq, where we are there. And so from an intelligence perspective and for our ability to exert leverage and influence, it’s much, much easier in Iraq than it is in Syria. That’s a long-winded answer to your question but it’s a tough one.
