Thousands of civilians fled their homes Sunday in a battered district of northern Lebanon‘s Tripoli, taking advantage of an informal truce in fighting between the army and Islamist militants.
An AFP journalist in Tripoli reported the lull after three days of heavy clashes in Tripoli, the country’s second biggest city, even as the army vowed to crush the militants.
4. Councillor from French far-right party Front National converts to Islam – and urges others to follow
Maxence Buttey, 22, has been suspended from a regional Front National committee after he went public with his decision and sent out a “proselytising video” to the party in which he praised the “visionary virtues of the Koran and urged them to convert, the Telegraph reported.
Mr Buttey, who is a councillor in the eastern Paris suburb, Noisy-le-grand, said the Front National and Islam had a lot in common.

INDIA – Hindu-Muslim clashes erupt in Delhi’s Trilokpuri area
Clashes between Hindus and Muslims are reported from India’s capital Delhi. The communal clashes reportedly began in Trilokpuri area on Friday (Oct. 24) evening and were on till 24 hours later, leaving at least 13 people injured, including eight with bullet injuries.
On Saturday at least five persons sustained bullet injuries in a heavy exchange of gun fire between the two communities. Though prohibitory orders were imposed under Section 144 of the CrPC on Saturday night, security forces struggled to gain control, with clashes spreading to at least five blocks in the area. At least three of those injured are critical.
As the violence continued for third consecutive day a curfew was imposed and shoot at sight order was enforced.

TURKEY – Police, residents clash again over controversial mosque project
Clashes between police and residents resumed on Saturday morning at the entrance to the Valideba? Grove (Valideba? Korusu) in ?stanbul’s Üsküdar district, with residents blocking a road to prevent construction vehicles from leaving the site.
Construction workers with excavators began to demolish a parking lot at the entrance to the grove earlier this week. The construction kicked off protests that have been ongoing since Tuesday. An ?stanbul court ordered that the demolition of the parking lot — in preparation for the construction of a mosque – cease, but the ruling has been ignored.
Protesters and residents have gathered to halt the construction, as they say it will allow for the further devastation of forested land at the reserve. Environmentalists also took to social media to call for protests against the destruction of trees in the grove. Solidarity groups have explained that a mosque is to take the place of the trees. Local residents and environmentalists also claim that the mosque, which has been commissioned by ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) authorities in Üsküdar, has not yet received the proper permits for construction, implying that the police are protecting an illegal construction project.
On Saturday morning, residents and protesters blocked a road to prevent construction vehicles from carrying construction materiel out of the lot. Clashes erupted when police tried to confront the residents in a bid to clear the way for the trucks to proceed. The police eventually opened the road for the trucks to leave, but residents and protesters are still waiting at the grove.
